Dawn of a New Age (OOC Thread, Sign-ups)

The Following is a copy of the thread on the ESUS Boards:

The Government has decided to move all Diplomatic and Trade related activites as well as Headquarters to the only other Torontonian holding outside of Earth, the Nubia System. However, there is a catch. The Torontonian facilities in the system have only extended to Nubia's VI and V, while the inner planets remain unexplored. The government has offered grants and rewards for any ships which are willing to seek out and discover what is on the inner planets.

Long range scans can't be used due to an anomally produced in the system which refracts/bends/distorts all forms of communications or information. Also, the inner system has a sort of "Bermuda Triangle" thing going on, ships which go exploring rarely come back, and when they do, they are deviod of crew.

However, recently, a crew came back with reports that a mysterious Alien Object was discovered on Nubia III, and could possibly be the source of the anomalies which currently prevent effective habitation of them (Note: Said Artifact also disrupts all high-scale electronics). So, the government has put out a general call for adventurer's to go into the unknown and disable/destroy whatever is causing the disturbances. But when they get there, the ship is going to have widespread malfunctions and crash (Ala Kanuck's Exile thread, except in this one they'll be getting off the planet)

So what I'm looking for are people who can reliably post (At least once a week) who can play a character of any race/nationality so long as they follow these general rules:

1. Although the characters would be adventurers/prospectors, I would prefer that they not be overly equipt with Weapons or Equipment. Since this is a survival RP which is also going to be introducing a new element into my nation. Also because I don't want to have something like "The Thing inside the bush hungered for the kill" and then have one the characters say "I use my X-Ray Nightvision Goggles 3000 to see whats in the bush, and then I'll shoot it with my Railgun." If your characters usually have uber-items, have them be ill-equipt this time.

2. Don't mind being railroaded a bit, although this is going to be set up with as little restrictions as possible, this is a rather important bit of development for Torontonias, so there will be some sections where you won't have any choice but to do it my way.

3. Finally, be able to post on a regular basis, a minimum of once per week

All Submissions for Characters must also be accompanied with some sort of proof that you can reliably post at a rate of at least, once per week, preferably once every few days but a minimum of once per week. Although, it will be at my discresion but the entry is based on a first come-first serve basis. Questions may be TG'ed to me as I check at least once per day, but for the most part simply post characters in this thread as well as some proof that you are a reliable and quality RPer.

That's about it, any questions (as I said above) can be directed either to this thread, or to my nation. There is space for about three-four more people.

An Example for a Character submission would look (Preferably) like this:
Name: Brent Causby
Occupation: Freighter Captian
Age: 36
Race: Torontonian (Earth)
Equipment: Freighter (Free-Market Class), Proximity Detector, Communications Equipment (Two Way Transmitter, backmounted, with six portable units), Medkit, Freighter Locator
Weapons: Soundburst Pistol (Antique, Sonic based Weapon), three Plasma Grenades
Protection: Leather Vest (Provides minor protection against Energy based Weapons), Freighter Jumpsuit (Can sustain body in airless enviornments provided attached helmet, [not included])

Physical Characteristics:
Height: 5'9'' Weight: 146 lbs.
Eye color: Blue Hair Color: Brown (wavy, not quite long, nor short either)
Build: Slim, Low Muscle Tone
Description: Usually sighted in his Jumpsuit, with his pistol holstered.

Having failed training school to be a Captian in the TSDC, the private industry gladly took him in. A survivor of the Sskissian raids, he quit the business and took the hazzard pay issued to by a second hand freighter, converting half the space to Sentient-Class transport space, he makes runs for anyone willing to pay, the more dangerous the place, the higher the cost. He is extremely sceptical of anything, and has a tendancy to dominate conversation and groups, this makes him most suited for his role.

Name: John Marstein (Torontonias)
Occupation: Demolitions Expert/Mechanic
Age: 24
Race: Torontonian (Epsilon Indi)
Equipment: Two Anti-Personelle Mines, Two Proximity Mines, Two Remote Mines, Four Demolition Charges. Repair Kit, Diagnostic Tool
Weapons: AR-1 Grinder Assult Rifle, Spork Pistol
Protection: Modified Powersuit (Independant Air System Removed, replaced with experimental projectile deflection system). Extremely prone to overheat and failure.

Physical Characteristics:
Height: 6'5'' Weight: 256 lbs.
Eye color: Brown Hair Color: None. (Bald)
Build: Muscular, Fit.
Description: Hailing from the TAF, John is built like a soldier, he is very plain looking, and most of his characteristics can be deturmined though his body language.

A Soldier-of-Fortune, Marstein was ejected from the TAF for his reckless tactices and excessive use of high explosives to complete mission objectives. He was taken onto Brent's permenant crew for his knowledge in Mechanics and ability to jury-rig solutions for minimal cost and maximum efficiency. Generally friendly and energetic, he is quick to anger if any of his Friends or Ally's are being threatened.

Name: Yrrrrth Kz'o'ar (Hyperspatial Travel)
Occupation: Biological Engineer/ Geneticist
Age: 516
Race: M'toark (A shapeshifting race, from another nation of mine)
Equipment: Truespace Capsule, bioengineering repair kit, medikit, staibilisation capicitator. Weapons: None. A M'toark is a killing machine all by itself, as it can form into any shape, and make its body harder, softer, and more liquid or gaseous at will, however, holding such a sha[e is difficult without the DNA-based stabilisation capicitator.
Armour: None. Again, no armour can feasibly be made to fit a M'toark. However, if a M'toark gains enough biological material to consume and transform, it can make discardeable armour, for others.

After creating his own superhuman... human, Yrrrrth's lab was destroyed, and his experiments likewise. Deadly in combat, he fled the League, and decided to take this job, in order to fund a second laboratory. M'toark require a great deal of food to metabolize, and only the stabiliser can drop the metabolic rate and control the transforming. (I intend to have the stabiliser begin to slowly fail once I reach the planet). He is weak for his race, and cannot transform into gaseous or liquid forms with ease, unlike most. He has no 'ranged' attack, although he can move very fast, and can heal other lifeforms easily, as he can replicate genetic material without a lab. A M'toark is constantly shifting and changing, and, without a stabiliser, shifts from one shape to another, randomly, the M'toark having very little control over the actual transformation without the stablisier.

Name: Esdras Duperard (pro. Es-drus Du-prard) (Megas)
Occupation: Sharpshooter/Retired Bounty Hunter
Age: 29
Race: Megan (Tirolian)
Equipment: HUD headset (motion sensor; comm device; weapon interface; infrared scanner) 2 electro-nets w/proximity launchers; chemical sedatives; a convenient pack to carry it all
Weapons: IR-20S energy rifle (black market version of Megan infantry rifle w/scope); SA-2 blaster pistol;
Protection: invidium mesh BDU's (provides limited protection from energy-based weapons/light physical impacts); shield generator (20 second battery life; rechargable battery)

Once a great bounty hunter among the Empire's systems, Duperard is responsible for hauling in over 150 violent criminals during the 7 lawless years of the Hobbeebian War. The Domestic Enforcement Act passed in 11205, however, put an end to his glory days chasing after the worst of the worst. Soon after, he put his marksman skills to use in the Immortal Challenge, one of the Empire's more off-the-wall, yet fastest growing, sports. A year of competition had left him a sobered man, as the sport's safety measures were known to 'malfunction,' and he had seen many killed right in front of him.

Esdras left the sport in search of something resembling the life he once led. He joined up with Brent's crew in order to quench his thirst for adventure and the freedom it gave. He is generally good-natured, but doesn't speak much, and is very loyal to those he works with.

Physical Characteristics:
Height: 6'1'' Weight: 170 lbs.
Eye color: Purple Hair Color: Green (cut short)
Build: muscular, low body-fat percentage
Description: Just as all Tirolians, Esdras' skin pigments are slightly greener than that of a white Terran's. He is not particularly tall or strong, but is in great physical condition. Usually wears his black BDU's.

Name: Avis Terrik
Rank: Staff Sergeant
Gender: Male
Unit: 473rd Advance Reconissance Commandos (ARC)
Equipment: ARC Battlesuit, Kerrich PSV, Kerrich MBREV, Four Fusion Charges, Argonian Knife
Role: Heavy Weapons
Eye Color: Yellow
Scale Color: Black
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 273 lbs

Staff Sergeant Terrik is a lightly decorated hero of the pirate campaigns of the 25th Space Marines, having served under Jarri before the commander transferred to ARC. Terrik followed a year later and has become a welcome addition to the team. This particular mission isn't officially sanctioned, but could benefit the Argonian fleet with addition intelligence on a system unknown until now. The pay doesn't hurt either.

While this will be his first contract assignment, Staff Sergeant Terrik is confident in his abilities as a warfighter and member of a unit. The fact that he has been authorized to bring his AVAS weapon (which will be strangely destroyed on impact...) along for the ride, has also given him a bit of a confidence boost.

OOC: I'll submit a futuristic variant of what I'd normally enter. If the weaponry seems a bit over-powered, I can easily downgrade it to something more acceptable.

Name: Kerick Jarri
Rank: Commander
Gender: Male
Unit: 473rd Advance Reconissance Commandos (ARC)
Equipment: ARC Battlesuit, Kerrich SLAC, Kerrich PCV, two fragmentary grenades
Role: Team Leader/Support
Eye Color: Green
Scale Color: Hunter Green
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 252 lbs

Commander Jarri's battlefield tactics are well-known as brilliant adaptations of avaliable resources and the situation. It was a major disappointment for his superiors when he asked for re-assignment to the 473rd ARC. Mortality rates for the unit have always been high, and back-up consists of a personnel carrier and three other soldiers. His previous service with the 25th Space Marines brought him through conflict with various groups of space pirates and brutal firefights aboard pirate vessels. He served with distinction, following his given orders to the letter, even if they involved slaughtering prisoners, which occoured on one occasion. Jarri applied for transfer to ARC a month later...

Name: Tavis Yetlin
Rank: Gunnery Sergeant
Gender: Male
Unit: 473rd Advance Reconissance Commandos (ARC)
Equipment: ARC Battlesuit, Kerrich SBREV, Kerrich PSV, four fragmentary grenades
Role: Marine
Eye Color: Blue
Scale Color: Coyote Tan
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 225 lbs

Gunnery Sergeant Yetlin has served with ARC for more than ten years now, a decorated combat veteran against pirate groups, newly-discovered hostiles, and whatever else the fleet has sent him against. A survivalist in the extreme, he is an expert marksman and able to exsist on anything he can get his scaly hands on. Imposingly built, he keeps himself in excellent physical condition and has a rather dark sense of humor.

Name: Jervik Tannar
Rank: Staff Sergeant
Gender: Male
Unit: 473rd Advance Reconissance Commandos (ARC)
Equipment: ARC Battlesuit, Kerrich MBREV, Kerrich PSV, Two Fragmentary grenades
Role: Marine
Eye Color: Brown
Scale Color: Olive Drab
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 225 lbs

Recently promoted, SSG Tannar has a previous career with the Argonian Army, 4th Infantry division before transferring to ARC on a whim. He has very little reguard for his own safety which has him constantly at odds with his superiors for reckless tactics and endangering his subordinates. Wounded three times, he seems to never learn. ARC seems to be a place where he can act without constant supervision, but without his distinguished service record he probably would have never been accepted. Commander Jarri has taken a serious risk by allowing Tannar to join his team.

Craft: Ultani Armored Reconissance Scout (ARS)
Propulsion: Twin Ionized Engines
Armament: Twin Forward-Firing plasma cannon pods (2)
Capacity: Four + Equipment
Role: Advance Scouting Base for ARC Units

Equipment Explanation:

ARC Battlesuit:
The standard-issue ARC battlesuit consists of a spandex-like material plated with Plastron plates on vital areas including the chest, back, thighs, shins, forearms, throat, and groin. The plates themselves are able of standing up to pure energy weapons quite well due to a coating of resin empregnated with microscopic crystals that dissipate the majority of the heat energy. On the otherhand, partial energy weapons like plasma and high-velocity projectiles puncture the plating quite easily. The spandex itself is effective against small-caliber, low-velocity rounds and shrapnel. With the addition of an external oxygen source, the suit is capable of allowing the wearer to move about in the cold vaccum of space. Manuvering jets are nessecary for zero-G mobility, however. The helmet features an integrated HUD system displaying remaining ammunition in the current weapon, oxygen levels, compass orientation, and overall health of the wearer and assigned squadmates. The armor is white in color with the black material between the plates. The view visor is black and opaque from the outside. The helmet also provides support and protection for the Argonian fin-ears and communication between squadmates.

Kerrich Arms Corporation Squad Level Automatic Cannon (SLAC):
The SLAC is a six-barreled electronically-fired autocannon chambered for a three milimeter depleted uranium pellet. The projectile is propelled through the barrel by means of electromagnets and exits the muzzle encased in an ionized plasma sheath the gives it penetrating power capable of punching through plastron armor plating. An internal tubular magazine holds ten thousand rounds, and comprises the back section of the weapon. The weapon itself is shoulder-fired, much like a rocket launcher, around five feet in length, and weighs around twenty pounds unloaded. Despite its size and weight, the weapon is extremely effective for squad-level support useages and surpressive fire.

Kerrich Arms Corporation Main Battle Rifle Elite Variant (MBREV):
The 'BREV' as it is known among the troops, operates much on the same principles as the SLAC weapon, firing electronically through the use of electromagnets. The projectile is still the depleted uranium pellet encased in an ionized plasma sheath, but the rifle is manufactured in a burst-fire mode only. While accurate up to five hundred yards, its main useage is for close-quarters urban combat where the punch of the three-round-burst can really shine. A side-feeding box magazine holds seventy-five rounds. The overall size of the weapon is around three and a half feet. The MBREV is a hand-held, shoulder-fired weapon is the tradition of the infantry rifle. The unloaded weight is seven and a three quarters pounds. It is the standard-issue weapon to all Argonian Armed Forces branches.

Kerrich Arms Corporation Sniper Battle Rifle Elite Variant:
The sniper form of the BREV has few changes, namely a longer barrel, advanced targeting optics, and a semi-automatic trigger. The magnification goes up to twenty times normal. The weapon has the same seventy-five round magazine, but the length has increased up to five feet. The weapon is commonly issued to Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeants to provide accurate fire up to the maximum effective range of five hundred yards.

Kerrich Arms Corporation Pistol Commander Variant:
The pistol fires the same pellet ammunition as the longarms, but at a smaller velocity due to a shorter barrel length. The Commander Variant features a barrel length of six inches for increased velocity and accuracy as well as a second barrel for firing special ten gage flares and close-combat munitions.

Kerrich Arms Corporation Pistol Soldier Variant:
Sporting a four inch barrel, the weapon isn't much different from the Commander variant other than the lack of a second barrel for flares and specialty rounds.

Kerrich Arms Corporation Anti Vehicle Attack System:
The AVAS is a shoulder-fired explosive projectile cannon firing a fifteen milimeter depelted uranium slug encased in a molten plasma sheath. The slug is filled with a small fusion charge, smaller in destructive potential than the standard fusion charge. It is capable of blowing a small starfighter to small shards of metal with a single hit. Like the SLAC weapon, the AVAS is heavy and large, in addition to being a single-shot weapon. While it can be reloaded, this takes time, even with the side-loading design. The projectiles are dumb-fired, and lack any sort of guidance system.

Anything too over-teched?

Everything checks out, with the exception of you only being able to field one character, so you'll have to pick from the group you've submitted. Although your Battlesuit would work, you might have some problems with the HUD (Grainy &/or Possibly static).

The Rocket Launcher, Sniper and the Autocannon would have to be scrapped too, you could start with them, but they'd have to be lost or destroyed in the crash.

Also, your going to all be on the Freigher that Brent Causby Captains, so you'll be signing on as a Crewmember, so you don't get your own ship either. If any of those characters would not normally be seen hiring on with a Low-Grade Freighter, you may wish to remake one.

I've seen your work though WA, Its some good stuff, so I don't need any other proof. Its a shame that old RP you had going with the Squad fizzled out though, it was quite good.

OOC: The Autocannon would probably run dry after a few hours of sporadic operation anyway, unless supplied by the APC after extended periods of firing, the the thing chews through ammo like a puppy through a new sofa. Electronic sighting on the sniper weapon would be ineffective, and like the HUD, grainy and basically useless for long-range work.

I'll field the last character, minus his heavy weapon.

I'm interested in joining in, but slightly nervous that I might not meet your approval, as I am fairly new to the NS world. For reliability, I am a little hard pressed to provide proof other than a promise and the fact that i havent let anyone down yet. As for quality roleplaying, I have no problem being guided and no qualms about my character dieing for either stupid actions and/or advancing the story in an interesting way. Also I have roleplayed before outside of Nation States.
If you choose to accept me, the character I propose is as follows:

Name: Dedalus Fic
Occupation: Scout/Cartogropher
Age: 22
Race: Human, Gender: Male
Equipment: Ghillie Suit (for adaptable camouflage), vibration based communicator with earpiece, nightvision headset, Electronic Note Pad and Pen with digital camera capabilities, couple of K rations and water purification tablets., and a backpack.
Weapons: 9mm AS silenced assault rifle - with two twenty round cartridges, old fashioned steel boot knife with serated edge. Low grade EMP grenade, and a flashbang.
Protection: Military Jumpsuit - provides moderate protection from the elements.

Physical Characteristics:
Height: 5'5" Weight: 154lbs.
Eye Color: Blue Hair Color: Black (Cut very short.)
Build: Conditioned and physically fit.
Descriptions: Usually wears his old military jumpsuit topped with a cowboy hat. Often with a nervous grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye, he is quick to humor, but shy in general demeanor. He boasts a tatoo of a grinning wolf on his right fore-arm.
Dedalus is ex-Fenrisian Special Forces; where in he earned a reputation as a 'stealthy sonofabitch,' but left the military before seeing any significant action. As a civilian he got a job as a serveyor for local map companies, utilizing his reconaisence skills. Of course he quickly grew bored of this job and began looking for work elsewhere.

Name: Daenar rho'Massai
Occupation: Scout-Sergeant, 4th Skand Skyhounds (Drop Troop Regiment)
Age: 38
Race: Skandi - Human, but evolved to survive in normally toxic environments (the Skandi lowlands are uninhabitable due to extreme toxification, with the Skandi living in sky-cities and mountaintop hive-cities. Over the years, the Skandi have built up a resistence to the pollutants. The Skandi have always specialised in airborne assaults due to the nature of their homeworld.)
Place of Origin: Skand Prime (only habitable planet in system, others are Skand-U one through seven)

Equipment:
- Two-man Herald dropcraft Silence of Skand
* Space for second person replaced with additional storage space
* Single forward-mounted assault cannon slaved to pilot's controls. Other weaponry removed to facilitate speed
- Narthecium (general purpose medical tool) and supplies (limited)
- Dry rations (Standard Issue)
- Hydration rations (SI: water and tablet form)
- Micro-bead (ear-mounted vox unit)
- Dataplate

Weaponry:
- Standard-issue laspistol
- Skandi-issue lascarbine (short-medium range, higher power than the standard Legio lasrifle, more compact than the Legio-issue lasrifle). Scoped.
- Jump-issue grenade pack (contains 5x fragmentation and 3x melta anti-armour grenades, single demolition pack)
- Skandi Shiversabre (Curving blade, two feet in length [to allow for drop-troop use], with built-in powerpack that causes blade to vibrate rapidly, allowing it to cut through more things that it would usually be able to. Not a powersword.)

Protection:
- "Drop" Carapace Armour: Enviro-suit classification (provides moderate protection from known weaponry, but vulnerable to armour penetrating attacks, to heavy fire, and at joints. Carapace armour can absorb some damage but not significant quantities.
- Chameleoline modification to armour: think of it as active camoflage crossed with camo paint: The colours and designs change to suit the environment, but they don't make him invisible or anything, just harder to see. (Standard scout modification).

Physical Characteristics:
Height: 6'3" (Skand is a relatively small world, and the lower gravity results in taller people)
Eye color: Blue
Hair Color: Permanent dye: Blue (typical Skyhound trait to demonstrate loyalty to, and pride in, their regiment. The dye used alters the hair follicles so that the hair produced is the same as the dye.)
Build: Lithely muscled

Description:

Scout-Sergeant rho'Massai enlisted on his fifteenth birthday, along with several of his friends from the Skycity Oceantower. Eager to leave the floating city they signed up eagerly and were brought into the 4th Skyhounds to train as droptroops.
rho'Massai distinguished himself in several war theatres, first as a medic before being transferred to the scout company.

His childhood was fairly standard for a low-level reistent of a skycity (namely, miserable), although with parents working in Grav Maintence he was slightly better off among the multitude of poor in the levels he grew up in.

The Skandi are a hardy race who, despite being relatively tall and slender, are lithe and adapt quickly to most environments. They demonstrate an unusual ability at climbing and Grav-chuting, being well known among the Senate's Legions as one of the few regiments to frequently volunteer for the One Way Ticket (grav-chute drop) and the names of the Skandi Skyhound regiments hold places of honour in the Hall of Service on Ventuus itself.

The Skyhounds are also famous for their roles in the Service of the Iron Casket, being the representatives of one of the Five Worlds assigned to guard the Casket.

North Fenris, I'll give you a shot, I remember how hard it was to get into RP's when you are just starting out, you seem to know what I want. However, the electronic notepad would be prone to interference and shut-down. You have the go ahead, you can go and post your intro-post in the RP, show the other slackers how its done.

Ventuus, although your character is fine, however, you're going to have to shed a lot of that equipment. This is a Survival RP, characters are more encouraged to survive on wit and training rather than equipment
The Camo is fine, but the Carapace armour would have to be ditched entirely or powered down so that it could withstand minimal damage to begin with. Being able to withstand a few shots to the gut is one thing, but being protected against non-armour piercing weapons might throw up some problems for me in the future.

The Dropcraft would have to be ditched too, or at least have the autocannon removed. Either way, it would have to be "Destroyed" in the crash into the planet. The other equipment is fine.

Finally, for the Weaponry, it looks fine, so long as the Las-stuff runs on some sort of power pack that can run out (As to not be unlimited). Not that you need to run out early, just so that the fear of ammo running dry is always there. Also, have the grenade backs have a few used already (Maybe 3 frags, 1 Anti-Armour and the Demo Pack)

Once these are changed, you can go make your intro-post as well.

Thats it, there is no longer room in the RP, this thread is going to convert to being a fully-fledged OOC thread, so any questions reguarding the RP can go here.
Ventuus

Sure thing.

Following changes:
Carapace armour reduced to mesh (interweaved microfilament) that protects against light damage.
Rebreather added (standard Skandi equipment, normally part of carapace armour and necessary for high-altitude drops/deathworld missions)
Chameleoline cloak and fatigues replaces camo ability on armour.

Dropcraft to break in crash.
Grenade pack (sections of) to be stored in dropcraft and so lost in crash, leaving 3 frags, 1 melta-AA, demo pack as suggested.

Las weaponry:
Las weapons function on powerpacks that are interchangeable between weapons, with a combination of powerpack and weapon defining the power.
i.e. a laspistol powerpack could be used in a lascarbine/lasrifle but would permit fewer shots (although a laspistol as approxomately the same stopping power as lascarbine, the range and shortening of the laspistol would reduce the number of shots fireable by the other weapon). Officer-issue laspistols do not have compatible weapon packs, but this is not an issue here.

The power packs can be recharged by leaving them in the sun (for 12-20 hours in direct sunlight - unlikely to happen due to the nature of the mission), recharged at a direct power source (again, unlikely) provided converters are utilised, or by placing in a fire (limited recharge, makes energy feed unreliable and prone to failure.

So, generally speaking rho'Massai will be running low on ammo although he could recharge given sufficient time (unlikely).

The shiversabre powerpack operates on similar principles, but require far less energy.

Hmm. Seems to have gotten lost in the above posts. The Link the the IC thread can be found Here:

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=10005031#post10005031

Since I had the Intro-Post Yesturday, it seems to have fallen off the three page limit of boards. It is in this one Nationstates, but if you can't find it you can always do a Search on "Posts by Torontonias" in the search bar, the Thread has the same title as this, except it says IC thread instead of OOC.

Oh, and the Sarge is currently wearing his fatigues, with his shiversabre sheathed at the hip. The rest of his equipment is stored on his ship, which is (naturally) locked up with military-grade gear (it is a military vessel afterall, and saves him sauntering around with a lascarbine and heavy bags).

No windows, eh?

Any other specifics about the ship we should know about to use IC?
Torontonias
01-12-2005, 12:57
Well, the two parts sticking out of the top by the "Bridge" (The only spot of the ship with a window) are the living quarters the rest of the ship is cargo area for freight (Minus the two Cargo Holds converted the living space, but the Captain and the first officer have claimed those due to the lack of paying customers.) So as you can imagine, with eight people (going to be, hopefully) aboard, it would be rather cramped in the ship.

Also, for travel, from the entrance at the top, there is a long coridor that heads straight to the bridge but also branches off to the living quarters. There is an elevator in the multipurpose room (Room which acts as Meeting Center, Recreational Area and Mess Hall, appears as the small section that juts out beside the bridge) that leads down to the Cargo section, and finally at that end of the ship, is where the engine room is located.

Since people's characters seem to be about to make their journey to the interior of the ship, I'll put a brief description of it up.

First, after the entrance is a long straight corridor which leads to the Multipurpose room. In it is cooking equipment along with a large display screen on the oposing side. The room is dominated by a large meeting table which doubles as a dining table, the rooms corners are also occupied by conforable chairs and couches, along with assorted reading material.

If you went straight to the end of the room, on the left corner there would be an arch which heads into the bridge, which really consists of two chairs and a crude pilots interface along with some wall-mounted readouts.

On the left side on the end of the Multipurpose room there are two elevators, one which goes up and one which goes down.

The one that goes up is really just a platform that elevates to the living quarters (Which is sealed off from the Multipurpose room) which consists of three rooms and is designed in a large "U" shape (A small conduit connects the two top chambers to complete the "U" One cylinders is an entire room, so that would assumadly be the first taken. Its a gaudy room painted bright orange with clashing furnature. The two beds occupy one corner of the room while assorted packages (Food, Supplies, Consumer Goods) litter the floor, there is also a smaller display screen as well as an Audio hookup in the room.

If you went through the hallway and through the conduit, it would deposit you in another two connecting rooms which have bunk-beds. These are sparsely furnished (Aside from the beds) and look to have never been occupied.

All the beds have covering, and all the rooms share a common bathroom (In the cylinder with the one large room) which has twin showers and toliets and are stocked with low-grade tolietries.

The Second Elevator takes you down to the storage areas, where the two closest have been turned into large, luxurious rooms (Captains and First Officers) which each have private, dedicated bathrooms. The other six compartments are filled with goods and supplies for the mission, as well as assorted Crewmember supplies (If they brought any and put them there) at the end of that hallway is the engine room, which consists of all the main engine control terminals, as well as the computer core and other essential systems.

22-12-2005, 00:43
Name: Mihkael Gasparovich (Regenius II)
Occupation: Theoretical Physicist
Race: Regenian (Terran)
Age: 29
Equipment: Bionically enhanced vision (distance, and infared), and light kevlar/durasteel titanium body armor, genetically augmented muscle fiber
Weapon: One Mosin 12mm deutirium fueled laser side arm

Physical Characteristics
Height/ Weight: 6' 1"/180 lbs
Eyes: Blue/ gray depending on mood
Hair: Blonde
Build: Tall, thin, yet suprisingly strong

Background: Mikhael hails from a long line of patriots, and he himself is no different. After receiving his doctorate in Thoretical Chronospatial Physics early at the age of 24 he joined the Regenian Aerospace Department, and volunteered for their deep space research sector. After word of the anomaly reached the department they recommended that Mikhael be sent to research its source and return wit data to be analyzed by the department. The Regenian government funded his bionic and genetic upgrades so as to help protect him in th field in the event of any trouble. He reassures himself though that he is going to be perfectly safe. The he sees the ship...
Torontonias
22-12-2005, 00:49
Alright, so far checks out. The infared would be treated like nightvision or scopes, they would work, but barely, the picture would be all grainy and blurred.

Also, how much can the Body Armour aborb? And if so, Could it be scaled back to a vest or something (Unless it already is a vest, then disreguard the next sentance, as for me Body Armour = Full Body Covering), so you have some parts of your body are exposed?
And how much enhancement in strength and stamina related activied to the Muscle Fiber Augmentations give you? As that may have to be toned back as well.

The Firearm checks out, as it seems like a low-to-mid calibre weapon, so long as it can't shoot through a 10m Concrete wall or anything.

Also, you probably could through it a specialized scanner or something that would work fairly well in the disruption field, seeing as you're a physicist and all.

These changes, once approved (Shouldn't take long) and you'll be able to jump right in
Regenius II
22-12-2005, 00:58
Ok, let's see the muscular augmentation gives Mihkael 1.5 times his normal strength, and also increases healing time slightly? (maybe)

Vest sounds good.

And I can have an advanced radiation scanner... that say picks up on most signals in the known spectrum, but can not interpret them. As in no communication through it.

How bout a box of matches or something like that?

I appologise, although I had plenty of free-time up untill a week ago, I was generally being lazy and inactive. However, now I'm knee-deep in high-school exam season (Starts next monday) and I've been swamped with end of semester crunch and studying, and will most likely be unable to post in this for the next week and a bit.

As soon as they're over however, I will redouble my efforts to keep this RP going. In the meantime I will attempt to whip up a intermediate post so everyone else can get they're characters reactions in.

Edit* Posted, for visualization purposes, there is now a large tree sticking into the MP room, withe branches and leaves strewn everywhere, along with crewmen and furniture. If someone managed to get the elevator to the Living quarters, they would be met with the sound of bending and constricting metal and the weight of the ship resting on it slowly crushed that section. If someone managed to get to the bridge, there would be nothing but dirt spilling in through the window (Bridge is partially submerged). If they opened the blastdoors to the entry way, it would be normal, for about ten metres, then it would give way to jagged metal and twisted materials, as well as a hole to the outer world (A result of the missle strike).

Also, the living quarter elevator would go up, but since its upsidedown you have to open the shaft and just "Jump in" same goes for the cargo elevator but climbing is needed.

The crash was relativly stable as far as uncontrolled crashes go, and aside from being thrown about, no real physical damage need be taken, unless you want them too.

Oy man, I know what you mean, I'm a junior in HS and I'm crazy busy so I feel your pain. It would appear that a number of the players in our story have forgotten us. Would it be a good idea to remind them of their commitment to the story? I think this scenario would be very boring if only 4 characters remanined alive and/or active.
Torontonias
25-01-2006, 02:37
Ah yes, I forgot about that reminder. Just a friendly one, I wasn't going to have any of the characters killed off in the story (They would all just miraculusly make it). However, if Players remain inactive, they will find there characters meeting "untimely" ends at the hands of the "Mysterious Inhabitants."

Those on the shortlist for being terminated are: Wandering Argonians, Megas, North Fenris and Ventuus. Don't get all freaked out though, this is an early warning. All participants have at least a week to get posts in (As I'm still doing Exams) and then there will still be a little development before people (may) start getting offed.

Just remember, once you've been disemboweled, there is no coming back. If you wish to drop your character now, due to time constraints or lack of interest, you could always say they suffered mortal injuries in the crash as to not meet up with such an untimely death.

Also, Regenius II, what would be so terrible about a four character party, its a nice, even round number. Its also the standard for many RPGs (Electronic, Pen and Paper, or otherwise), we'd also have a Scientist, a Psi, a Leader and a Generalist, it would be an interesting combination.

I have a question about the natives. Are they low tech and somehow managed to launch a missile, or high tech? Are we out gunning them but we only have so much ammo before we need to use their technology? Are they all inherently evil, or just their leaders?

(Just trying to clear a few things up)
Torontonias
29-01-2006, 06:06
Well, it depends how you define "Low-Tech" for me personally, its more Middle-tech, they essentially have mid-19th century weapons (Rifles, Shotguns, Pistols, etc) as well as rudimenary explosives. But nothing too fancy. However, due to lack of a Metal which had a high heat capacity, the weapons have a longer cooldown and refire rate, but they fire bigger slugs. (They're Rifles can go through multiple trees). This also causes them to have a lack of Cannons, artillery or the sort. Also, due to they're physical stature (They are a stocky race) they favour getting up close with Melee devices such as Cerimonial clubs and swords.

They managed to construct and lanuch the missle with the forced help of a downed crewman from another ship (Who was later killed).

It's leadership is also evil, though the general populace are more Neutral, however, you'll be facing Soldiers which are fanatic to a religious point to their leader, so essentially you'll be facing "Evil" guys, which in fact are simply soldiers with a high respect for their leader and sworn they're lives to duty.

It is basically a fair fight, with a slight advantage to the Natives, since they know the terrain. The crew have superior defence and weaponry, but the Natives have numbers, stealth and suprise (Since none of the crew know about the inhabitants). As well, a small caliber rifle will shoot you just as dead as a Railgun.

Remember, this is all OOC, if you attempt to apply this knowledge in the RP, your head might explode.
Regenius II
29-01-2006, 17:07
Would it be possible then to ally with a dissenting group of natives to bolster our numbers?
Torontonias
29-01-2006, 17:14
Probably not, because as I said, you'll be dealing with the Military Types, not seeing much of the way of Civilians.

However, if need be, I could introduce that.
Regenius II
29-01-2006, 17:15
Cool, somehow the disbelief suspension for 6 people outwitting/defeating an army is really difficult.
Torontonias
30-01-2006, 16:37
You have to realize though, this isn't an army. Not by a long shot, although they dominate the planet, we still landed in a relatively barren, the Tyrant has dispatched a company of soldiers (100–300 Troops) so although 6:300 odds are never great, we have the advanced technology and combat expertise (Well, some characters do).

However, the catch is that they have suprise (We don't know they're there), Numbers (6:300 Ratio), Stealth (They know the lay of the land, we don't) and possibility of reinforcements (Though it would take several days, the enemies we encounter were in a realitivly close area)

OOC: 19th century? Like 1800-1890? So we're dealing with rifled/smoothbore muzzleloaders and some primitive bolt and lever action rifles firing anything from a .75 caliber round to a 45.70?

Copper barrels perhaps?

What about low-tech projectile weapons like bows and blowguns?
Torontonias
02-02-2006, 02:53
Copper barrels perhaps?
What about low-tech projectile weapons like bows and blowguns?

Essentially yes, but without Copper, since this is an Alien planet, there may not be any "Copper" on it, but there could be a similar substance with very similar qualities. However, I suppose they must be a little further advanced because I was imagining the opposite with those weapons, very little of the muzzleloaders, and more on the bolt-action rifles, but like I said, since the weapons don't have the heat capacity of iron or steel, they aren't likely to stay cool after one or two shots, and after they overheat, the Soliders are more likely to switch to close-combat weaponry.

Also, there may be some encounters with lower tech such as bows and blowguns, but since this is a well-equipt mililary unit, Unless they have to suplement their overheated weaponry.

I appologise in advance for any "Tactical" mistakes involving Military formations, tactics or weaponry, I try to look up the best sources for them, but the fact remains that I personally know very little about them, so I try to do my best to make up for that, but I do know its gotten me in trouble before with someone who knows there stuff.

Alright, since Ventuus has actually seen the aliens, I thought I would post a picture of them here for future reference. If one hasn't already guessed (My Discriptions have been fuzzy at best, relying on name only to get the point across) they are Reptilian in nature and physical description.

They are stocky and well built, although generally not reaching heights over the low 6' mark, their bodies are well muscled and they have better reflexes than the average Torontonian (Which is roughly human), this all lends itself to them being very adept at Melee fighting, although they will always try to get a shot off first.

Here is a Picture (With Photo Credits going to WoTC)

Just to let everyone know, The ship is actually intact, its landing gear may be trashed from a rough landing, but it is largely intact, unlike the crumpled heap of the Savage Avenger.

Also, Brent is unconsious, he broke a few ribs in the fall, as well as minor concussion. The point being, he's not going to be getting up for a while without Medical attention. Perhaps there is some Medical Equipment on the ship?

The entrance would be locked, but that could easily be bypassed by someone with the technological know-how, or it could be blasted off.

I've shortened the deadline to three days from a week, so you all have untill Friday to get a post in or at least get me a reason for the delay, so I can put the characters into a kind of "Stasis" or at least have them go off somewhere untill you can become active again.

Alright, sorry about that, with every thing that has been going on in real life I've been some what distracted but I have posted

Just dropped a post requiring some heavy reading. I've officially but Ven and NF into "Stasis" mode, so they're characters can come back, but for now they are invisible to the progress of the RP.

I moved against killing them, since they could have interesting options to bring to the group if they ever come back.

Is it ok that we're moving towards a confrontation with the scouting force that's been following us. That's what the plaque was supposed to indicate, that we were being followed. Anyway yeah, some more action would be schweetx.

Yeah, we seem to be moving in that direction. Although major hand-to-hand combat isn't going to be starting untill nearer the end. If you'd all go and look at the currently Updated thread, you will notice that we're all going into an APC, whose stats can be found here

Embryonic Class Hover APC

The Embryonic is basically as its name suggests, houses and supplies infantry in a mobile setting. As well as carrying them into the battlefield

Length: 38m
Width: 18m
Height: 10m

Crew: Two
-One Gunner
-One Driver

Weapons
One Heavy Laser Battery

Defences
1.6m ECC Composite Armour
Four Layers of Collapsible Armour

Power
Power is supplied via Three Miniature Fusion Reactors

Max. Speed: 302Km/h
Avg. Speed: 104Km/h

Notes: Can House and support up to Sixty Infantry, although if used strictly for Transport can hold up to Two hundred and Fifty Infantry, uncomfortably

Yeah, its big. It also has a Turret and some weapons holes that people can shoot out of. I figured that five-six people, no matter how advanced, would be able to take on a Force of 60+ Aliens.

C'mon Tappee and Megas, we're almost done. We're probably only 1-2 pages away from essentially finishing the meat of the RP, then all that would have to be done was the very ending, which can take as long as everyone wants!

I'm still in if you want to finish it...

Sorry I haven't responded in the last half a month. As much as I really want to resolve this, I've been extraordinarily busy the last few weeks. I should have a bit of a lull in work over the next week and a bit, so I'll try to wrap it up then, assured that everyone else posted quickly.

It's all good. I was recently hired myself, and lost the internet for awhile whilst my family transitioned from 56k to DSL...

Ok, so maybe it isn't wrapping up so fast. Anyways, Regenious II, I did a background check when I discovered your nation got deleted, there is a Regenious III, so if thats you, feel free to hop back in. Although your character is in a little pickle right now.

...Dead nations don't get to leave Nubia III :D

Well then. I suppose I may have had a slight oversight. Well, Regenious if you can figure out how to get out of that one without going "I makes them asplode with my Enhancements" then power to you.

*Dies* For once I actually feel worse about the people I'm making read that post than when I spend two hours typing it. Its six MS pages long exactly, have fun all involved!

PS: It is the new record holder for longest post ever written by me, ever.
