Q. We are wondering if bulls players Centre William Knight, Prop Forward John Walker & Second Row Forward - Fred Clink are signed for the second season! We could negotiate a deal for them to play for us! They have exceptional talent & we could do with more.

A. Yes, they are signed up to play the second season, but perhaps the third season.
Centre - William Knight ($501,431)
Prop Forward - John Walker ($234,432)
Second Row Forward - Fred Clink ($427,782)

What can you offer?
Is it better?
The only thing i can not accept is to play this season, unless the deal is good, but i think its rather too late for them to play for your team.
I am also intrested in your 5/8 Malcolm Fraiser. Whats he paid this season?
Can i sign him on for the next season. I can beat your price, perhaps!

OOC: Is there where we place the post-match reports?

Warriors start with a bang

Shearwaters Giants (28) Vs AMW China Warriors (48)

Five tries (Spencer x 2, Chen, Sitivatu, Ming)
Converted 5/5
Penalties kicked 6/7 (86%)

Graham Hart was obviously pleased with his team after the game, in which the Warriors enormous forwards were able to place enormous pressure on their opposites and dominating both possession and territory.

"Our forwards were outstanding. However, there are some aspects of our game that need to be improved," Hart said, referring to the Giant's dominance of set piece lineouts, in which four throws were stolen.

The warrior's back play was ordinary. Spencer had an excellent day, breaking the line several times, kicking beautifully, and taking an intercept to score a 90m try. Chen and Sitivatu also performed well, taking a try each although there was some controversy surrounding Chen's try. Halfback Ming had an excellent first half, but lost form in the second half and was substituted by Lau.

Overall, the Warriors will be happy with their performance. Not many teams can win against the hosts in their first game.

Warriors slay Dragons
BHM Dragons (12) Vs AMW China Warriors (22)

Four tries (Spencer x 2, Chen, Carter)
Two penalties (Spencer)
Two conversions (Spencer, Carter)
Spencer converted 6/7 = 86%

The Warriors have won four in a row after defeating the BHM dragons 22-12 after a hard-fought battle between the backs. Prop forward Woo's replacement Greenwood had an excellent debut and managed to match his opposite in most areas of play but did not manage to dominate. However, the back line looked much improved compared with their showing in last week's 22-18 win over the APC wolves.

Down 6-0 after 15 minutes, Spencer recieved the ball from halfback Ming after a turnover at the opposing 10m line, then proceeded to kick a powerful grubber which stopped a metre short of the opposing tryline. Fullback Chen saw his hance, pouncing on the ball to equalise the score.

The second and third tries were both scored by Spencer. Spencer's first try, 25 minutes into the game, resulted from an intercept 60m out from the tryline after the opposing halfback threw a pass a baby could intercept. Spencer scored just after halftime after breaking the line and sprinting a full 30m.

Subbed on in the 57th minute of the match for Spencer, replacement 5/8s Carter also made his mark on the game, running through three players to score a try by the post and successfully converting.

Man of the match was No 10 Spencer, who has developed his running, ball distribution, and rugby vision substantially from the one dimensional kicker that he was in last year's Hong Kong Sevens. He has also added a physical dimension to his game and now almost has a choke hold on the national league team No 10 jersey.

Editorial : Spencer, the uncut diamond
Making headlines two years ago after giving George Gregan a knuckle sandwich in the China-Australia Rugby Union test, Spencer back then was a hot tempered 19 yr old fullback with an incredible boot but lacking much sense of rugby intelligience. After the game, he was summoned to the judiciary where the Chinese rugby league and union tore up the contract after hearing he was suspended for 4 months.

It was during these four months that Spencer found God and Rugby League
,declaring he wanted to specialise in the 5/8s position and renouncing his violent ways. After that, he was given a second change and joined the warriors, firstly playing in their A team before being selected for the IRL team.

"Players like Spencer, they are the most committed and loyal players any coach could ask for because he's been given a second chance. Not many coaches would had taken someone with his previous reputation on any team."
Graham Hart, AMW China Warriors coach said.

In a statement to the IRL Rules comittee, Coach Graham Hart wishes to know whether the Warriors can call up extra players from the feeder clubs.

Shock loss

BHM Dragons (18) Vs AMW China Warriors (14)

3 Tries (Chen, Spencer, Sitivatu)
1 Conversions (Spencer)
0/1 Penalties

In Hong Kong today, the Warrior's six match winning streak was snapped by the BHM Dragons in a 18-14 defeat. The Warriors lead 10-14 at half-time, but were kept scoreless in the second half and had their game scuttled when the Dragons scored two quick tries between the 70th and the 73rd minute.

The Warriors forward pack performed reasonably, but were a shadow of the last team that defeated the Dragons 3 weeks ago and outmuscled by a much improved Dragon pack. Replacement Lock Greenwood performed reasonable, but was guilty of poor discipline, being sinbinned in the 70th minute for fighting.

Lacking quality ball from the forwards, the feisty fullback Chen stepped up a gear, charging down a kick by the Dragon No 10, chipping over a winger, and regathering to score in the corner. Spencer had an excellent running game, sidestepping two defenders to score but was unable to adapt to the windy conditions, missing two conversions and a penalty. Winger Sitivatu scooped up a knocked-forward ball from his opposite and sprinted 50m for the try.

Coach Graham Hart is still confident about next week's match and in replacement lock Greenwood. Experienced Prop Forward Woo has began bicycle training after a knee operation and will be returning to the field in round 8. Hart denied suggestions by commentators that forwards lacked depth.

"Greenwood has performed well but we obviously need to work on his temper. He's an excellent lock but just lets the opposition get to him occasionally. We have plenty of depth in the forwards, injuries are expected when a team plays a physical style of rugby like us, and those on the bench are just as good as those on the field."

Elsewhere, the TAB announced that a patriotic Dragon's fan had won over a million dollars.

Future in safe hands

M.Footballers (14) Vs AMW China Warriors (18)

2 Tries (Chou, Chen)
2 Conversions (Spencer)
2 Penalties (Spencer)

Spencer kicked 4/4 = 100%

This week's game between the Warriors and the Footballers showcased the prowess of the players in the Warriors, with Fullback Chen and Prop forward Woo taking charge of the game.

From the first minute, it was clear the Footballers game plan involved shutting down ball supply to the slick Warriors backline especially Spencer. However, the Warrior's forwards dominated their rivals, with Prop forward Woo showing he had not lost form, scoring a try in the 12th minute which was later disallowed for a forward pass. A penalty was rewarded to the Warriors when the Warriors Halfback was taken out without the ball in the 15the minute. Spencer converted, and the Warriors led 3-0.

Marking Spencer heavily created the space for Fullback Chen to make magic. Two tries were scored between the 68th minute and 72nd minute. In both tries, Chen had a hand. The first try resulted from when Chen read and intercepted a slow pass by the Footballer's 5/8 before flicking it to speedy winger Chou who ran 40 metres to score. Chen then ran around the opposing centres to score in the 72nd minute.

Coach Graham Hart was pleased with the result and with the leadership his team showed.

"We are beginning to look like serious title contenders now."

How much is he really worth???
Isn't what the LR paid, a little too much???
A Paradise Cove
11-12-2005, 01:54
Yes!
It would be wise, to invest in some top elite players for your own good. If you could settle a deal with The Liberty Raiders for their halfback Ian Barnes and win him, you scoring will increase by at least 40%. I suggest you get a new fullback, one with more speed, and even a fraction bigger. You need a new front row, centres are good, new halfback, new wings, and possibly even new second row forwards.
Remember, even though, you may have to pay a high price for Barnes, hes worth every cent, and you keep him permently or as long as you wish...
I would pay between $800,000 - $1,000,000 for Ian Barnes.
So, rid of your players, except the centres, and get a new team.
If you start that today, you will proberbly not play for a few rounds.
Do it fast, and play the games with what you have now, you can stay on this season whilst recruiting better players.

I have a player, trying to enter our team, young & talented, but we can't until at least next season. Perhaps, you would be interested in taking him. He's fast, quite strong and would make and excellent fullback. His name is Peter Laful! Interested???

If you need more help, dont hesitate to contact me on this thread. We can discuss Tactics and game play for your team, at a later date. First get your new team!

Anyone know where Shearwaters is these days???
AMW China
11-12-2005, 05:23
OOC: Well being an RP, you can decide yourself what the tactics of your team are. In the case of the Warriors, an attacking backline with a solid forward performance is a crucial strategy with most of the tries being scored by backs after recieving quality ball from the forwards. Bear in mind of course, simply changing a few vital players such as 5/8s and halfback can completely alter the game plan, for better or for worse.

Bulls (22) Vs NH Sharks (10)

A suprise win over the New Historia Sharks, yesterday lead to 'conclusion' of the coach saying "perhaps, perhaps we can win this season, make it to the championships, make our nation proud. Looking back so far on this season, we only have about 20% chance of making it to the semi-finals. So C'mon boys, lets win!!!

The Forwards performed well, putting up a strong defense, while the backs dominated the offense, which was quite strong on this occastion. The Wingers were good, but needed more of the ball. Most of the wing stayed open for the match. The Fullback was quite good, holding up the last stage of the defense!

Thats all...
AMW China
15-12-2005, 03:23
AMW China Warriors (16) Vs Lions (18)

2 Tries (Woo, Spencer)
1 coversion (Spencer)
2 penalties (Spencer)

Spencer kicked 3/4 = 75%

An uncharacteristically poor performance by the forwards saw possession and territory favour the Lions. The Warriors fought hard but in the end the difference was one missed conversion that hit the post.

Prop forward Woo was clearly revitalised after a five-week injury break, the only bright spot in a lethargic forward pack and knocked over his opposite to score in the 45th minute. Spencer was his usual self, running and kicking freely although the backline lacked quality ball. Spencer scored in the 60th minute from regathering Fullback Chen's punt.

Coach Graham Hart acknowledged that the forwards were both mentally and physically exhausted. He plans to replace three of the forward pack to give them some time off.

"It's a very long season, and issues like player fatigue and stress are starting to take their toll on their minds and bodies."

Like AMW, i too, have my forwards looking a bit knocked around and taking a lot of pressure especially on the field. I will take them off for a few rounds and replace them with a few talented young players from my bench.

I agree that the season is rather long, perhaps we can persuade shearwater to change that.

If i host next season i will make it 20 rounds plus finals etc.
But even if we shorten it by a few rounds, players still have to deal with stress, and like AMW said especially Mentally & Physically. Maybe teams just need to establish a top routine, allow players to have at least four rounds off, and allow for some of the bench to have a rap. New talent could be noticed from the bench, if we allow it to..

What do others think?
BlackHill Mafia
16-12-2005, 02:45
Yes. If my players to not play well, i push them to the limit. I believe once you've had a good winning or playing streak, players can then have a break for a few rounds and allow other players in.
The Liberty Raiders
16-12-2005, 03:58
OCC: Unusual. I agree with Mexicona and AMW. My team are performing well, only loosing a few matches, and have plenty left to win. There so far into the season, for them to just quit for a few matches to have a break is just, well, when i feel they become tired and do need the break, i will allow it. However i will not replace them with new talented players, i'll stick to my experienced bench.
The Liberty Raiders
16-12-2005, 06:22
OCC: Anyone have any vibes on who will make it through the the Grand Finals, or who will win?

I think AMW China Warriors will make it although i'm not so sure they will win. The NH Sharks are looking good but dont have what it takes to make it to the Grand Finals. The Only other team i can think of is myself, not promoting or favouring myself or any thing, were just been lucky with the wins in our first season.

I also feel that the Lions will stand up, make a run, win a few games, make it to the semi's then be knocked out, which happens...
Mexicona
16-12-2005, 06:25
Yes, of course. The AMW China Warriors will be up there most certainly, maybe the Lions....
But i would like to see some improvement in the Giants, whats happened. I favour them, other than my team. They were "the team" last season!
Whats Happened???
AMW China
16-12-2005, 08:13
OOC: Well it's kinda hard to judge when the results are mostly based on chance. So what tactics does everyone use? The real-life team that most resembles the AMW Warriors would probably be the Tigers and several Rugby Union teams, notably the All Blacks and the Welsh. Or we could replace a couple of forwards and the No 10 to play the power game like England.

Coach Graham Hart has been critisised in the past for playing a game style that was too Union, anyway, no more ramblings.

Today the Chinese Rugby League and Union (CRLU) announced its intention to bid for the hosting rights of the International Rugby League Season III. Chief Executive Richard Branson announced the decision in a press conference attended by members of the press and both current and former rugby players.

"The Chinese Rugby League and Union are well prepared. We have some of the best facilities in the world, with the newly completed state of the art stadium in Chengdu capable of holding 100,000 and a great passion for rugby."

Most of the games would be played in Chengdu and Hong Kong, with the finals played out in Chengdu.

More information on the CRLU is available here.

Match Report:
Giants (12) Defeated M.Footballers (10):
An awesome array of tactics from the front offense saw 2 tries and conversions in the first half. However the M.Footballer did the same although fell two points short to make the score even. The Defense of the Giants held out strong for the second-half, with no tries scored by either team. Several attempts from the M.Footballers offense failed. Alan Hunt from the Bench was hit hard in his third minute on field, and will not be able to play until next season. The Giants Coach said hunt has improved rapidly with his time on the field this season and may become the fullback next season.
In the second-half the match was all "defense" for both teams, but no one broke through good enough to score or set-up a score. So leading by two points, the Giants won against a soild team, although, IRL Officials believe, the Giants will not make it to the Finals with their lack of wins this season.

Tackles Made: 313 (Giants) - 283 (M.Footballers)
Tackles Failed: 28 (Giants) - 59 (M.Footballers)
Tries: 2 (Giants) - 2 (M.Footballers)
Conversions: 2 (Giants) - 1 (M.Fooballers)

The Lions has shown it may be a serious contender for a top four spot with a 44-30 victory over the BHM Dragons.

In the opening half - the back row and the wings showed their skill and talent and scored 6 tries and conversion and made the score 36-0. After such a major head start, it seemed as though the Lions were giving in their defense and handing over several tries to the Dragons. The Beginning of the second-half with the score 36-30, a break through from dummy-half, and a perfect set - up, added six points onto the Lions score, Making it 42-36. The Lions then for a long period of time, held up one of the strongest defense lines in the IRL History. The Dragons just could not even get over the half-way line. In the last 3 minutes a perfect field-goal from the 5/8 saw the score 44-30. Desperate for more points, the Dragons broke-through hard in the last few seconds in need for a try, but came 12 metres short then the match had ended.

AMW China Warriors (24) Vs N.Rhinos (22)

3 Tries (Chen x 2, Sitivatu )
3 Conversions (Chen x 3)
2 Penalties (Chen x 2)

Chen kicked 5/6 = 83%

Injuries for previous round:
Centre - Hui - AMW
5/8 - Spencer - AMW

The Warriors scored a bittersweet victory over the Rhinos today, losing 5/8 Spencer and Centre Hui to injuries caused by controversial tackling. Many warriors fans were incensed, booing the opposition as they left.

A tackle in the 3rd minute left Spencer limping of the field with an ankle injury. He was replaced by Carter and goalkicking duties given to Chen. A penalty was awarded to the Warriors a minute later, with Chen converting for a 3-0 lead. The Rhinos winger outran Warriors winger Chou in the 15th minute to give the Rhinos a 6-3 lead. Centre Hui was out of the game in the 20th minute after being driven into the ground from a great height in a spear tackle. One of the largest punch-ups in IRL history then saw a penalty awarded to the Warriors.

Replacement 5/8s Carter showed why he was regarded as one of the competition's rising stars with his excellent tactical kicking throughout the game. Carter spotted a gap in the 25th minute and kicked a grubber to winger Sitivatu, who scored with embarrasing ease. The next two tries were scored by fullback Chen, with excellent displays of running rugby and skill after chipping over the opposite Wingers and scoring twice.

Coach Graham Hart was worried about Spencer's and Hui's injury. Hui will be replaced by Larkham, while Carter will start at 5/8s. The forwards will be kept after working well today.

AMW China Warriors (56) Vs APC Wolves (20)

Good to see, teams taking off, advancing well, gaining a few wins ready for finals in around two weeks time...
The Lions made a stand to defeat the bulls 34-4, while the ES Eagles defeated the Giants 50-0. But the biggest suprise was a large win over the APC Wolves 56-20. A good win by AMW China Warriors...

Injuries: Lock - Dusty Gregs (Mexicona), Winger - Skinny Boy Gregory (B&F Lions), Prop Forward - Mick Redding (Liberty Raiders) & Hooker - Mileke Mutombo (New Historia)

Most teams will start to encounter injuries this far into the season. However changing, modifing or reseting your game tactics in the IRL Discussion thread can & will make your team less vulnerable to injuries.
Please take this into acount.

Lions (34) Vs Bulls (4):

After a win yesterday, the lions decided another win today would suit. The Lions held the opponents at bay for most of the game. Unlike yesterday, the Lions defense was better organised, and stronger. The Bulls had a great defense, but the first 15 minutes of the first half, the Lions were all offense. Fullback - My other Grandma slipped through after a long pass from Hooker - Fatty Pumba, and scored. Fatty Pumba then scored a conversion. Centre - My Mate Henry & 5/8 - Maggot Snr both scored two tries each and conversions were succesful. But in the last ten minutes of the game Second Row Forward - Sherriff Sewer Rat scored after a grubber kick from the 5/8. The Bulls scored one try and no conversion.

OCC: We play the BHM Dragons again. We played them two rounds ago! Never mind, it could be another win.
I have decided to modify my tactics. I'm making defense a little weaker, and offense a little stronger. So Offense (30%) & Defense (70%).

If we go well with those tactics similar to the last time we played them, then again, the Dragons should have a last minute break-through attempt. So the last ten minutes will be all "defense". The Front Row will be the main line, backed by the second - row, wingers will defend the wings, fullback takes right down field, and the remaining will watch for any gaps & cover. Yeah, that should be good.

And in response to my changing of tactics, what do you have to offer A Paradise Cove?

Defense or Offense?

One way traffic in the wolves den

AMW China Warriors (56) Vs APC Wolves (20)

8 Tries (Sitivatu x 3, Chen x 2, Woo, Chou, Carter,)
6 Conversions (Carter)
4 Penalties (Carter)

Carter kicked 10/14 = 71%

An injury to famous 5/8s Spencer and centre Hui didn't seem to hamper the Warriors in anyway at all. The Warriors were rampant, with winger Sitivatu relishing the new kicking style of play to run in three tries in a first half massacre, fullback Chen scoring two tries, and three more tries to Woo, Chou, and Carter. The potential of the Warriors side was first seen in the 2nd minute when fullback Chen kicked a screw punt that Sitivatu retrieved, crossing the line for a try in the corner. The Warriors lead 40-8 by halftime after two more Sitivatu tries, two Chen tries, and several penalties. The Wolves stepped up in the second half defensively after a couple of substitutions, but it was too little too late.

The substitutions by Hart last week surprised many, with analysts betting the speedy Chen would be moved to 5/8 and Carter into fullback. “Hart has in the space of one week, switched from Spencer's running game to an expansive tactical kicking game that feeds on errors in the opposition.” RugbyChina reported. Both Chen and Carter kicked well and the team made the decision not to play the game in their own half even at the second phase, and the kicking proved disruptive to opposition defences. As a result the Warriors dominated territory by a whopping 73% to 27%. The new forwards continued to grow in stature.

Coach Graham Hart commended Vice Captain and fullback Chen in their rout of the Wolves. “Chen has the rugby vision of a 5/8s, the speed of a winger, and an aura of leadership on the field.”

Next week's match against the Footballers will be a chance for the revitalised Warriors to reassert their challenge after losing two games out of the last four.

Lions (24) Vs AMW China Warriors (22)

After a great win, yet devastating, the Lions are re-thinking their future. Hooker - Fatty Pumba was almost killed in a hard tackle by the AMW China Warrior defense, suffering major spinal injurys (he will get over it!). The Lions would have drawn, but the fullback had to nail a field goal, 12 seconds before full-time. The lions are now looking at be coming a possible contestant in the finals coming up. The Warrior defense was rather strong and their offense was stronger. The Lions have become a better team then before, but their future looks uncertain. Not because of the several injuries that haunt them, but their tactics. They believe other teams have mastered their strategies and are using them to their disadvantage. The Coach said the will change their game approach.
Well thats all.

That was a great win.

Bulls (22) Vs N.Rhinos (10)

A win over a rather good team at last.
The Bulls offense set their win up, breaking through many times, but scoring was very minimuim. The Rhinos defense wasn't exactly in top order, but the centres took the majority of the tackling, while the wingers took on several slip through. With the bulls posessing 60%, they were sure of a win. A break-through on the left wing by the fullback provided the last try.
The Bulls hope to continue a little domination...

Lions (24) Vs AMW China Warriors (22)

4 Tries (Sitivatu x 2, Chen, Carter)
3 Conversions (Carter)

Carter kicked 3/5 = 60%

Carter had an average goalkicking day, missing one conversion and one penalty. Eventually a Lions field goal cost the Warriors the game, with the game at 22-all until the last minute.

After losing to the Lions in both their encounters, the Warriors will alter their game plan, Coach Graham Hart says. "We will be attending all of their games and public training sessions and taking note of their strategies. Our development team will also attend the other games of likely semi-final contenders."

The Bulls as a rough start, but there awesome array of Offensive tactics saw the game 44-10 to the Bulls.
The Bulls Fullback spent the match defending deep territotry and kicking ground. The Wingers spent time slipping through, while the Front Rowers, broke through the Eagles defensive line. The 5/8 and Halfback lead offensive line and did the majority of the scores. The 5/8 also did the majority of the conversions.

Milchama wins shootout

The Milchama Footballers, who have apparently competed in a rugby competition called the International Rugby League (IRL for short), in this competition they have done alright getting more wins than losses. Their latest game was against the Cougars where they just simply outscored them 46-44. The footballers got a penalty with 2 minutes to go that was converted by Terry Cormack to give the Footballers the victory. Coach Marty Gillman said, "It's nice the press is finally recognizing our achievements here instead of not caring about rugby at all..."

The Warriors announced today that they are hunting for a new halfback.

"Ming is our best player defensively and has the size and power to make a good forward, but he lacks the pace and vision that is the core of the attacking backline. His future in the Warriors is still bright, and we will play him as centre next year."

Analysts say that an attacking halfback alongside the speedy Fullback Chen and the "genius 5/8s" Spencer will add many options and make it much harder for opposing teams to target a specific player.

Hart has approached other clubs, including the Liberty Raiders for Ian Barnes.

(Any wanting to sell their halfback, could they please rate him in a way similar to this?)

AMW CHINA WARRIORS VS THE LIBERTY RAIDERS TONIGHT 7PM EST

Hi, i'm Tony Stewart a well known sports writer from shearwaters.
The China Warriors will take on the Raiders in a nail-biting grand final tonight.
The warriors have a sharp power game amoungst their forwards, accurate kicking and a rather elite offense, but the raiders have a top defense especially amoungst the second-row. The Warriors still have several injuries accounted for while the Raiders are much injury-free.

Coach Graham Hart believes the key to success in the grand final lies in the 5/8s position, where he believes Spencer will eventually dominate his opposite.

"The 5/8s is an absolutely pivotal position, and we will be defending our ball supply to the backs and wings at all costs."

Spencer has played a few games since his ankle injury in round 15 and led the Warriors to a victory over the Lions, but was rested in the game against the Cougars.

"From the Lions game, it looks as if Spencer has completely recovered from his injury. He ran freely and played an excellent game as well."
