World Cup Introduction:

For more information on the World Cup, its History, how it works, who runs it, and the competitions related to it, check out the World Cup Wiki Site (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/World_Cup).

The NSWC is a tournament for any NS nation who signs up. This World Cup is about to start its 26th competition, and your nation can take part! Every team is given a rank based on their performances in previous Cups, and the starting rank is 200 (the Current 'best team in the world' is Sarzonia, with a rank of 1) See: KPB Rankings (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/KPB_ranking_system)

Scores are generated using either a Java program or through various or MS Excel sheet 'scorinators' which use random numbers, weighted by ranking and RP bonus to produce the scores.

It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches, team rosters, players and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning (especially in the Baptism of Fire and Colony Cup). Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved or this happening. i.e. Two debutant, Rank 150, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. The nation who has participated should have the better probability of victory, but still has a chance of a Win, Loss or Draw.

RPs can be Team Roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, anything about the game, as long as you've kept to the score as posted or TGd to you by the host/scorer. (Not that you are required to mention the score.)

For any other questions you may have, please see the World Cup FAQs article on NSwiki. (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/World_Cup_FAQs) - Courtesy of Starblaydia

The longest-running sports-competition in NationStates reaches its twenty-sixth edition: the Football (Soccer) World Cup. Please do specify if you have not participated before.

If your nation is new to the World Cup, you will be able to take part in the preliminary Baptism of Fire Cup (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Baptism_of_Fire) competition.
If this is your first Cup, please indicate whether you wish to be registered for the Baptism of Fire or not.

Puppets have to post with their nation and identify their master. One Puppet per Master nation, and you may only enter a puppet once you have already competed in a World Cup'

Just as an FYI, this is a puppet of Sarzonia; however, the two countries are not related to each other in any way except for the fact that the same player controls both.

ROLATIA SIGNS UP FOR BoF AND WC
The Rolatian Football Association, hot on the heels of plans to set up the first Rolatian professional league since 1958 (when the now-defunct Republican party abolished the RFA in its only term of office), have decided to enter the Baptism of Fire and World Cup XVI. There is some optimism in the first performance but it is expected that Rolatia will not qualify for the World Cup proper.

Rolatia have a few players that will probably be in the squad, and one that definitely will - star goalkeeper David Ramar of New Millwall, regarded as the top Rolatian team. The full roster will be announced sometime before the home warm-up match with Armed Riches.

The Rolatian public are not too optimistic about Rolatia's chances, but are hopeful for a decent finish in the Baptism of Fire. Here are the latest bookmakers figures. The Rolatian manager has been appointed - Jonathan Gatri, a young Rolatian manager who was former manager of New Millwall and assistant manager at Redmofo United

Rolatia to win World Cup XVI: 5000-1
Rolatia to win Baptism of Fire: 20-1
Rolatia to qualify for World Cup XVI: 200-1
Rolatia to top qualifying group: 350-1
Rolatia to finish in top half of group: 50-1
David Ramar to be not included in final squad: 75-1
Jonathan Gatri to be fired at end of WC XVI: 15-1

(OOC: You mind if I post the Armed Riches match in the BoF, as a prelude to the Rolatian games? And what program do you use fto scorinate?)

Also, Capitalizt SLANI will submit its first hosting bid with Oliverry (the so-called “CHO:P” bid), the eighth attempt by an organization from Commerce Heights. You can do both. The Baptism of Fire (or BoF) is for teams, like yours, in their first WC to enable them to get a bit more experience RPing and in the KPB rankings before the WC. I would definitely recommend participating in the BoF, as it certainly gives you a decent chance to do fairly well in the WC. If you want proof, there's a couple of nations (including my puppet Pastorville) that are doing pretty well after participating in the BoF. By the way...welcome to the forums.:)

I've just realised what you mean by centenary. 25 (x 4 years) after the 1st. That means Errinundera's new Chief Protector of Various Things, oreadest who played in NSWC 6 & 7, would be at least a nonegenarian. D'oh. That should generate some good RP.

*tries to connive some method of getting AIF into WC26*

OK then, since you asked nicely.... (or one person did, anyway)

The Holy Empire of Alasdair I Frosticus signs up for WC 26 after all, but only because so many people consider it to be the centenary tournament, and only because so many other old-timers seem to be returning too (and there's an unresolved RP with Giant Zucchini to tidy up). Tanah Burung's potential return in particular is tempting the Imperials back.

But I'll have to concentrate my RP efforts on the Archregimancy - if WC 25 taught me anything, it's that I don't have enough time for quality RP for two nations.

While by far the older nation, for current WC purposes, Alasdair I Frosticus is officially a puppet of the Archregimancy

Druida presents a fully updated (as far as post #184) sign-ups list for someone to pop on the opening post of this thread.

Those in a somewhat faded shade of grey are teams enering their first World Cup (to my knowledge, at least) with no current KPB ranking, but have not specified this as their first cup, so therefore have not yet been included in the official listings for the Baptism of Fire Cup.

Those in a dashing dark red are returning nations without a current KPB ranking. I still don't know if such nations are eligible for the Baptism of Fire or not. Either way, neither have mentioned entering it.

Those in a rather fetching shade of purple are unconfirmed puppets.

Those in this nice deep green are confirmed puppets eligible for the Baptism of Fire.
Those you can't see are in their first cup, but are confirmed as out of the Baptism of Fire.
Those in big letters are in big letters just to make sure they're on the list.

Those in normal text are everyone else.

[COLOR="DarkRed"]This ([color = DarkRed]), on the other hand, is probably what you're looking for.

For the record, Errinundera and Tanah Burung are the nations that were attempted to be colored in that way. I'm almost certain TB is ineligible for the BoF because the KPB ranking system was in use while they previously competed; however, Errinundera was entirely pre-KPB, so I'm not sure on that one. Vilita, care to back me up on this?

Oh, and I'd also like to give a hearty welcome back to Tanah Burung and VAR (who was with us before with a different nation) - seems like everyone's coming back for this one. :D

Back Up. TB is ineligible, Errinundera is eligible but treated on the level of a puppet where their inclusion comes after "Pure Newbs" depending on space, which usually is not a problem.

There is precedent for returning nations of the KPB era participating in the BoF, as long as they are no longer listed in the rankings. I am part of that precedent, as I was originally around during WCs XII-XV (or something like that, I didn't bother going to check the exact numbers, but the point is that it was early in the KPB era-if I'm remembering right), and I was allowed to participate in the BoF in my return to the WC in the BoF that preceeded WC XX.

Keep up n00b :):p as i recall, the "noob" in question won a world cup before vilita started participating. although, i could be wrong.:p

On a semi-official note, Very Angry Rabbits politely declines the offer to participate in the Baptism of Fire Tournament. The VAR Team Manager (who shall be known as Otto Matic - basically, because that's his name) is still trying to finish reading "Football for Dummies" in order to garner some idea of just what this game is. VAR officials (who shall be known as "VAR officials" - as we don't know their names) are confident that by the time this "cuppy thing" (what - oh - the 26th "cuppy thing?") starts, Otto will have both a rudimentary knowledge of the game (and possibly some of the rules) and a team.

er...side.

The voting period begins now and will end Sunday, December 18th at 12:00 GMT.

Simeone Di Bradini (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Simeone_Di_Bradini)
World Cup Committee President

/me notes that this time has passed (by eight hours, though before actually looking, from memory alone, I thought it was longer :( ). I am pleased to announce that our hosts are...

...to be announced be Starblaydia, as I have no idea who has won the vote.

*This cleverly concealed bump was brought to you by Druidan Concealed Bumps Inc. Need a bump? We'll hide it in our midfield!

Hey, I just said that's when it'd close. Did I say when I'd announce it? No. :p

But anyway its Commerce Heights and Oliverry to host WC26.

*washes hands of the whole situation*

Swilata does not exist, but it did not sign up, Swilatia did.
Bipedal Apes and Mu-Muu are 22 days inactive. Pedriana is 29 days inactive.
EDIT: Never mind, I can update the signups now.

when you talk about people being new, does the U21WC count, because I have participated in that many times, and I don't know if that means I'm new, because the last time I was in the WC was around WC 20. I dunno if it means I should participate in the Baptism of Fire. meh... confused i am

Since you have participated in a previous WC (I hadn’t realized that you did), you may or may not be eligible for the Baptism of Fire tournament—no one’s really sure.

Signups are now full. Any further signups will be placed on a reserve list.

Since I was allowed to participate in the pre-WC XX BoF after having been away for about 5 WCs, I would believe that you should be allowed to participate in the pre-WC XXVI BoF.

OOC: I don't know if allowing someone who has previously participated in a World Cup to compete in the Baptism of Fire Cup is a great idea as it relates to the spirit of the tournament. Then again, experienced players have the option of letting their puppets compete...

Perhaps as long as there's no residual KPB ranking, perhaps it should be allowed. Then again, I'm not exactly part of the rules committee here.

If necessary, we will withdraw to give Lovisa a shot at playing. (This is NMS's puppet)

Personally, I hope you keep the Anathematic Republics in the tournament. Just imagine the RP opportunities if they get drawn against my main RP nation, especially once we refuse to play the away qualifier in Hell, refuse to allow the opposition in for the home qualifier, and then sprinkle Holy Water over the opposition after each qualifying match....

Sorry if this seems picky, but is there a particular reason why Alasdair I Frosticus is listed in purple as a reserve sign-up on the first page of this thread?

I thought I'd signed up the WC2 hosts without specifying they'd be a standby (unlike the last CoH) - or have I missed something?

When the Cup becomes over-subscribed (107 limit for WC26) we sometimes like to knock out puppets in order to get in regular normal people, those who aren't hogging two spots. And we boot them out in order of who signed up last.

So, with McPshychothingy and Montrique signing up, at the same time as Belewhatsit ceasing, one more puppet has been added to the reserve list, that of Pedriana.

Sorry, Bedi:

Signups updated to Montrique, 107 nations and 4 now booted puppets signed up.

Petropoulos would like to sign up

After developing young 14 year old teen phenom Pele Adu, the burgeoning nation of Petropoulos is ripe to win in it's inaugural world cup. Our afiinity to sports is created by our selective abortion process of all unathletic fetuses. Most children are selected for by kicking displays in utero which prompt mothers-to-be to exclaim, "he's gonna be a socca player!" :headbang:

WC XXVI is already in the group stage of the finals, so you're a little late for this WC. However, WC XXVII sign-ups are open.

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=465389

If it's your first WC, then I would strongly recommend signing-up for the Baptism of Fire (BoF) tournament as well.
