With the new laws regarding corporations and trade may come a new era of global interaction between the United City States and the world.

Election of Freedom Party senators to 75% of New Empire's city-states has lead to a mass of new laws that are literally reshaping the way business is being run in New Empire. After the landmark 2021 breakup of monoplizing aerospace, commerce and defense giant Hyland-Nikolaas Industries, economic tumult and unemployment rates lead to a backlash against what most considered 'centrist' economic roles. Beginning with the legalization of mercenary organizations in 2023 to deal with rising crime rates, especially in the 'greenbelt' areas between city-state centers, privatization has been at record highs, with the most powerful government institution remaining being the corporate-sponsored military and strong intelligence agencies.

However, everything has culminated with the results of the 2028 election. Once a member of prominent think tanks and a former Naval officer, Jan Hobbes-Smit is now President of the UCSNE.

What is to come is unknown, but most expect a nation much more involved in global affairs.

[Berliston Government District]
["The Old Fortress"]

It was here that so much history had been forged. Like many other great governing complexes of the classical era, it was a mass of columns and architecture, statues and fortifications placed atop a large hill. From here you could look down upon fortifications that had seen hundreds of years of war and peace, and look at massive urban sprawl in the distance.

The Old Fortress had been where the treaty was signed that ended the Peringeln-Imperial rift in the early 20th century, and it had changed with the times. It housed the executive branch of the nation, though several miles down the government district was the Senate and completing the triangle, the Hall of Justice. All carefully engineered in an equilateral shape to reflect the balance of power. But the Old Fortress was still the most symbolic of the three, and that was why it would be home to the upcoming conference.

Security was high and reporters crawled over the area like a swarm of insects, clicking and chittering away at one multimedia device or the other. Hobbes-Smit wasn't too fond of reporters. Most of his career, the corporation had another branch to deal with public relations, and during his naval career the media always had something bad to say about the government.

But the graying man did posess a sort of charisma, whether by logic or empathy he could work a crowd much like he did a group of investors or CEOs. He wasn't really as popular as a person as other candidates, his success was more attributed to the political party he followed. But he was by no means universally disliked. The reporters were kept away as he and the other UCSNE delegates to the conference conversed in the meeting hall, only cameramen adjusting equipment. He shook hands with a variety of people; soldiers, private citizens, law enforcement officers all were present. One couldn't run things purely as a governmental affair anymore, and that was the way he liked it. New Empire did not seek to be recognized as a government, but as a country with all its shades of business and political attitudes. Smiling as he exchanged service stories with a military officer, the rest of the nation awaited what would come of the conference.

--The Invitation (assume you have already received it and are arriving if you want to come)

Greetings to leaders and people of the world from the United City States,

For too long our nation has gone along as a non-entity in world affairs. With a lack of foreign investment and international relations, we have realized that we can no longer afford to be isolated from the rest of the world.

In order to seek beneficial relations both politically and economically between government and private citizens of New Empire and those of other nations, we invite all parties to send a delegation to a conference with UCSNE officials and citizenry at our capital city-state of Berliston. We hope that you will attend and help us become a true member of the global community.

Sincerely,
Jan Hobbes-Smit
President of the UCSNE

OOC: The best way (at least that I've seen) to introduce yourself is for your very first thread to be about a political shakeup in your nation. That's how I got my start, it lets people see who are the main people in your nation and how you are going to start out.

Then you should participate in a story thread or two before starting one of your own (build up a reputation as a good RPer first).
