Also, there will be a total new ranking system used EXCLUSIVELY in the Oliverry Cup. For this cup, every team will start with their CC rank, that I will bring down to 12. To make something hard easy, let's say that if a team is ranked 4th, but is the best ranked of the cup, it'll be ranked 1st. Afterwards, the new ranking system will enter in consideration.

This ranking system is easy to understand, but hard to apply, hense why if there are other incarnations, I'll be the host. The ranking system inspires itself from the international hockey point system(2 point for a win, 1 for a tie and 0 for a loss) but with modifiers. Well, with A modifier: the rank of the opponent.
For a win: 0,1 point is added per rank the team you beat had more. For example, your team is ranked 10th but beat a team ranked 7th. So, you gain 2,3 points. The opposite can happen as well: Your team is ranked 5th and beat a team ranked 10th. So, this team gains 1,5 points instead of 2.
For a loss, the opposite process happens, but insead of 0,1 points, it's 0,05 points so that nobody gets disadvantaged by a team ranked 12 finally being ranked 10th even if it lost every match. So, for example, if your team is ranked 10th and lost to a team ranked 6th, you'll gain 0,2 points. The opposite, again, is also true. So, if a team ranked 7th loses to a team ranked 12th, it will lose 0,25 points even if the team is at 0 points already.
For a tie, the same process as a win happens. So, if a team ranked 10th ties a team ranked 6th, the team ranked 10th will gain 1,4 points while the other will gain 0,6 point.

Sure, this could cause irrelevant thing to happen. So that it won't, teams in playoffs will be given 1 more point. And, all this amount of point is to be divided by the number of games played.

Updates will happen twice in the cup: once after the 3rd match and once at the end of preliminary phase

I know it's hard to understand but don't try to do anything about that and have some fun

The Oliverrian Hockey Association wishes you good luck for the cup!

OOC: I also note nations participating should RP because the RP Bonus effects the rank ITSELF

OOC2: The cup starts on Sunday so you have one day to post your RP's and rosters for the cup

No suprises as Milchama lose

Suprises were few and far between as the Milchama Israelis lost their first game today 3-0. Coach Jean Perron said, "They were better than us the entire game it looked like they were going to win for all to see but I think we still should have scored at least one goal against their defense." The shutout is the first time that the Isrealis have been shutout in hockey.

There were two highlights for the Israelis. The first one was when Max Birbraer took a shot off the wing that was saved by the goalie then the rebound by Sergei Bolo went off the post. The final one was in the last period when on the power play Mikael Horowitz passed right thru the defense to give Oren Zamir a breakaway but Zamir's shot was saved brilliantly by the goalie.

PALADINS WIN DESPITE NOT HAVING ANNOUNCED THEIR ROSTER

But we've got it now...we think.

Offense:

Line 1: LW Ives Chausseur, C Martin Prudhomme, RW Jake Morris
Line 2: LW Andre Lemeilleur, C Max Peak, RW Georges Thibault
Line 3: LW Marco Bismarck, C Rejean Lemieux, RW Todd Park

Defense:

Line 1: LD Matieu St-Jean, RD Laurent Moise
Line 2: LD Mohamed al-Din, RD Richard Pierrot
Line 3: LD Jean Collette, RD Alex Hicks

Goaltenders: Frank Smith, Cederic Monpetit

The game itself was fairly scrappy, with the first period consisting of aimless skating back and forth on the rink. Absolutely nothing interesting happened, unless you count Frank Smith being hit on the head by a water bottle thrown by a fan who was "sick of this piece of s*** hockey" interesting.

The second period began with (Squornshellian) picking up a rebound off Smith's stick and putting it in right over his left leg. The Paladins were quick to reply, with St-Jean assisting Jake Morris to even the game up.

Mohamed al-Din was next to score, picking up the goal after Todd Park deflected his shot off the side of the net, putting the Paladins in a 2-1 lead as the second period wound down.

Squornshelous picked up the pace in the third period, keeping the puck in Paladins ice for almost the whole first five minutes, finally scoring on a spectacular "one-timer" that went in off Smith's face mask.

With the game about to go into overtime, Ives Chasseur scrambled up the ice on a breakaway and smacked one into the Squornshellous net, to the cheers of the small yet rowdy NMS contingent that made the trek to Oliverry.

PALADINS SKATE PAST COMMIES

Prudhomme picks up 2, Morris adds clincher en route to a 3-1 win

OLIVERRY - Here at the Oliverry Invitational Hockey tournament, the Paladins have been experiencing success not commensurate with their previous ice-hockey experiences, defeating a much more experienced Hockey Canada side 3-1 last night.

The Canucks picked up the first goal midway through the first period, with Wladimir Mishakov slipped one through traffic into the net. Martin Prudhomme evened it up for the Paladins just before the period ended.

The second period was mostly uninteresting, with the only highlight being a fight that broke out between Igor Gusev and NMS bruiser Rob Redmond after Gusev speared his linemate Yann Ledoux. Both players were sent to the penalty box, and the period ended with 45 seconds of 4-on-4 left.

Jake Morris took off like a streak as the third period started, scoring the second goal on a breakaway as the penalty time ran out. A determined HC comback was blunted by a spectacular defensive effort, ending when Prudhomme snagged a pass from the corner by Mohamed al-Din and pushed it into the corner of the net for the final goal.

Prudhomme said "I hope I can do this again." Morris told us: "Bugger off, can't you see I'm in the bloody shower?"

Milchama Wins! Milchama Wins!

The Milchama Israelis experienced a new feeling today. Winning, after beating Druida 2-1. The game was close throughout and former NHL goaltender Evgheny Gussin made the difference for the Israelis in the game. Coach Jean Perron said, "This is why he is our starting goalie. He played in the NHL and on the USSR's national team. This win is really important and should help us a lot."

The Warriors first goal came very early in the game as Eisenmann found Eisenmann wide open in front of the net. Eisenmann easily put the puck past the goalie to make it 1-0 Milchama. The Israelis then played some good old NHL hockey and managed to make it to the end of the 1st period up 1-0. The 2nd period saw Druida tie the game early on the power play as <dude> scored. The Warriors should have scored again only a minute later but Ravniaga's shot was off the post. The game was boring as the only other cool thing that happened was when Gussin saved a penalty shot and when Zamir deked the Druidian goalie out of his skates to score. Milchama Wins!

Kaze Progressa
25-10-2005, 19:47
Kaze Progressa's defensive players were outdone for incompetence only by the forward lines as the team crashed to a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Fmjphoenix, who must have thought Christmas had come early as they helped themselves to two goals in each period.

Murayni Kiltaq had an astonishing 35 shots to deal with, and the fact he only conceded six was down to the fact he was the only player in the team who actually looked like he was trying to play hockey. Six different players scored for Fmjphoenix, but the team coach denied any accusations of a Communist conspiracy, merely saying 'the six best chances all fell to different players. That can happen with all the line rotations.'. Some believe these line rotations make hockey an inherently Communist sport, for better or worse.

The Progressans now face Vilita, who have promised to 'kick KP butt'. A one-legged man could do that.

Milchma wins again as defense shines

The Milchama Israelis won again today. This time over Vilita 1-0. The defense was great limiting the Vilitans to 20 shots over the course of 3 periods. When he was challenged goalie Gussin was incredible stopping everything that came remotely near him and easily holding the shutout. Coach Jean Perron said, "I came into this tournament expecting many things. One of the things I did not expect was a shutout. I thought we would get a few wins and maybe suprise a few people but getting a shutout that is just incredible I cannot believe it."

The game started off fast for the Warriors who almost had a goal their first shift as Eisenmann put his rebound off the post. The Vilitans then tried to counter attack the Milchamian defense stopped them in their tracks. The rest of the first period was a bore as both teams could not break through the opposing defences and create any significant chances. The second period saw some great play as in a mix up of lines Horowitz found Ravniaga with a perfect two line pass. Ravniaga then deked the goalie and put the puck in top shelf to make it 1-0 Milchama. Luckily for the Israelis that was all the offense they would need as the top two defense pairings allowed exactly 8 shots between them. The third defensive while worse did not do poorly giving up 12 shots. The penalty kill which has been spectacular the whole tournament (even if the power play can't score if our lives depend on it) continued today as the Vilitans managed 3 shots on 4 power plays. A defense could not ask for a better day.

BETTIANS ROCK PALADINS

3-0 loss shows we're back to regular form

OLIVERRY - Well, it just couldn't last, could it?

Nope, sure couldn't.

Bettia skated around, over, under, and at times straight through the NMS Paladins as they picked up a 3-0 win and a spot at the top of the group.

We're not sure who scored Bettia's three goals, but we sure can tell you who made themselves look bad last night: us. The offense delivered a beautiful interpretive dance version of "I'm a Loser baby" with the defense chipping in at key points, such as each of Bettia three goals, one per period.

That's it. Hopefully tomorrow will be a happier day for Paladins fans.

NMS UPENDS GULF STATES 6-2

Paladins recover nicely from Bettian asswhuppin'

OLIVERRY - Apparently, we didn't suck as hard as we thought we did after that disgraceful performance against Bettia.

Laurent Moise picked up 2 goals and 2 assists to spark the Paladins to a 6-2 win over The Gulf States.

The scoring began early in the first period, when C Max Peak converted a pass from Moise 3 minutes into the period for a very early 1-0 lead. Moise then scored himself five minutes later after a Gulf States drive fell flat. The Gulf States put themselves on the board right before the end of the first period, making it 2-1.

The first half of the second period was fairly slow, with both sides defenses really picking it up. Jake Morris took a pass from Moise in the corner on the way to breaking the stalemate, making it 3-1 for the Paladins. Marco Bismarck scored two minutes later, followed by Rob Redmond just before te period ended, giving the Paladins a 5-1 lead going into the third period.

The Gulf States managed to start the third period off with their second goal, which was met by Moise picking up his second goal. And that was it.

PALADINS TAKE DOWN HOSTS

6-1 win secures division championship, advance to play fmjpheonix in the semifinals

OLIVERRY - Talk about rude guests.

The Paladins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period and never looked back, romping 6-1 over tournament hosts Oliverry in the final match of the round-robin.

The Paladins struck hard early, going up 2-0 in the first seven minutes on goals by Mohamed al-Din and Todd Park, each goal assisted by Rejean Lemieux. After a spectacular save on an Oliverry breakaway, G Frank Smith picked up his first point of the series, hitting Jake Morris with a pass halfway up the ice. Morris passed it to Martin Prudhomme, who one-timed it into the Oliverrian net for the Paladins 3rd goal.

As the period wound down, D Jean Collette bounced one off Jean-Bertrand Bouchard's stick over the line. After a brief consultation amongst the referees, the goal was allowed to stand, and the period ended with the Paladins up 4-0.

The second period featured Oliverry's Maxime Aubry scoring on the power play after Rob Redmond got sent to the box for hooking Ben Valois. It proved to be the only joy the host team would experience that night as the Oliverrian side failed to capitalize on the momentum and the period ended 4-1.

Rob Redmond scored halfway through the third period on a pass from Laurent Moise, and Moise himself went on to put another one in three minutes later. The Paladins then pretty much coasted, resting their main lines and defensive pairs for the upcoming semifinal.

Frank Smith had 21 saves over two and a half periods. Cedric Montpetit came in about halfway through the third period and picked up 7 saves.

Milchama cruise through last match but get elinimated anyway

The Milchama Israelis did all they could in their last match to stop them from getting eliminated but it was not enough as despite their 4-0 win over Kaze Progressa losses to Fmjphoenix and Chicanada were enough to secure the Israelis third place in the group not enough for advancement into the semi-finals. Coach Jean Perron said, "We did better than anybody expected. Not only did we get a winning a record but we beat 3 teams that were not named New Montreal States. Overall we did a very good job."

The Israelis came out running in the first period scoring 3 goals. The first two were scored by Eisenmann. The first goal was on the power play as good puck movement saw Spivak get open and take a huge slap shot from the point. The shot rebounded off the goalie and right onto the stick of Oren Eisenmann who scored easily. The second goal was a 2 on 1 rush where Eisenmann deked out the defender then passed to Eisenmann who easily scored on the open net oppurtunity. The third goal of the period came shorthanded as the Progressans fell asleep and let Horowitz have the puck on his own and he did skating strait up the ice before deking the goalie and scoring 3-0 Milchama. The scoring was not over yet as only one minute into the second period the Israelis struck again as Max Birbraer stuck a huge slap shot that went in to make it 4-0 Milchama. The rest of the game after that is not worth reporting on.

An Early Eid Present From the Icebergs

Whilst the Blassed Realm was busy fasting and preparing for the upcoming Eid festival (OOC: hence the lack of RPing - désolé!), their ice hockey heroes did something that they had never managed before - progressed past the second round of a tournament. Not only did they do that, they managed to win the whole tournament and so go into the Cherry Cup with plenty of optimism.

After finishing second in their group with a 4-0-1 record, Bettia came through a tough match against a formidible Chicanadan squad, with star centre Ikrima Thruxton scoring in the eighth minute of overtime to record a 4-3 win and set up a tantalising final against Fmjphoenix.

The final itself got off to a bad start as Fmjphoenix flew into an early 2-0 lead, although Guto Al-Shamari replied early into the second period. Bettia played most of the second period with an extra man after their oppoents had a man sin-binned for roughing, but were unable to make that advantage count.

Thankfully for the travelling faithful, the Icebergs pulled up their socks (and in the case of Jason Castle, his shorts after they pulled down during an on-ice scuffle) and they put in a much-improved performance in the final ten minutes. Iestyn Knockhill got the Icebergs back on level terms with 5 minutes left after a Thruxton shot was parried in his direction. The hero of the day was defender Jason Oulton, whose speculative long-range shot from just inside the final third squirmed through the netminder's legs and trickled into the goal despite the best efforts of the Fmjphoenix keeper.

And so from its less-than-auspicious beginnings (when they turned up at their first Cherry Cup not knowing how to skate), Bettia has won it's first ever piece of ice hockey silverware, much to the delight of their elated (and slightly hungry) fans back home.
