Goals of the Leftist Coalition

The Leftist Coalition has vowed to commit to four goals:

1. Economic reform. The LC recognizes in full the necessity of improving the Natinari economy by implementing a number of incentives for work, as well as a number of corporate tax breaks. The NDP has headed this plan to help revitalize a stale and immobile economy, and it has also vowed to cut back on welfare spending. The LC has agreed to increase the age of eligibility for social security to 70.

2. Social reform. The LC understands the need for the Natinari people to be diverse, yet united. It is the mission of the government to achieve a level of tolerance and acceptance never before seen in our nation. We must also ensure that teachers are qualified, nursing homes are well-maintained, and that euthanasia is available for those who need it most. The dire need for educational reform is painfully evident, and the LC has vowed to solve this problem by raising standards for students and teachers nationwide. Finally, the healthcare system must be overhauled, for the current mixture of public and private hospitals creates too much confusion, too much bureaucracy. Free healthcare and affordable insurance shall be offered for those making under €35,000 per year, but the rest of the healthcare system must be privatized. Government programs and incentives will aid families that need it.

3. Financial reform. The LC is very aware of the stagnation brought on by deficit spending in government. In order to pay off our debts, we must raise taxes marginally. Taxes to be raised shall be sales taxes and property taxes. Government cuts in wasteful bureaucracy, such as the Office of Fish Conservation, are necessary. The Office has a total staff of 30 individuals and releases a yearly report on the state of fish in the Republic, as well as the Ministry of Environmental Affairs. An estimated €255 million is wasted each year into this waste. Cuts in other government programs should also allow use to produce a surplus so that we may better be able to serve the populace.

4. Foreign Affairs. The LC believes that the Foreign Ministry has been ridiculously inactive for the past decade. The state of our isolation must end, and immediately. The LC plans to set aside an extra €40.5 billion for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that it may spread itself around the world. We must also increase our contribution to the World Bank, and make strides in trade relations. Several blocs are under review at present.

In conclusion, the Leftist Coalition has dedicated itself to excellency. We are confident that are goals will be met within the five-year limit of our term in government, and hopefully inspire the people of Natinar to be the government, not of it. Individual responsibility is something Natinari all have in common, and it is our goal to take advantage of that individual wealth. As one nation, we can move forward into a prosperous future. This task must be completed by Natinari and the government working together -- neither force can carry the full burden. Therefore, in closing, the Lefist Coalition gives words of inspiration: Excel in all that is possible. Never accept defeat.

Not long after the previous government was called into session, the coalitions formed crumbled from within, and Natinar's government collapsed. Early elections could not be called, and chaos ensued. For the past decade, there has been some anarchy within the country, though a centralized government did maintain control of major urban areas. However, elections were rare, considering the situation, and most Natinari forgot what it meant to have political freedom and civil rights.

And then a former general, Ishmael Klein, was elected President of the United Provinces of Natinar in 2020 (the Decade of Confusion began in 2008). After fully reviewing the situation, he found it necessary to take back what had broken away. A brief military struggle ensued -- the armed forces of the UPN lost a total of 200 soldiers in the period of four months. With control re-established, President Klein issued a declaration that the Republic of Natinar had been rebirthed, now called the United Republic of Natinar. With a powerful military strategy and effective education campaign, Klein managed to restore order by 2023.

President Klein faces elections next year (2025), in which he will run again for the presidency. With Natinar's new system of government, the head of state and head of government are one entity, to prevent further division. The president is elected by popular vote.

The National Assembly, the new name for Natinar's legislature, now comprises of two houses. The House of Representatives is the lower house, and the Republican Council is the upper. The House of Representatives is elected by popular vote and is representative of district population. The Republican Council is elected by popular vote, and three Councilors are elected from each province. The National Assembly as a whole has 400 seats. 370 of those are in the House of Representatives, and the other 30 are in the Republican Council.

The Presidential Cabinet is separate of the National Assembly, but members of the cabinet must be approved by a majority vote in the National Assembly.

By 2025, much of the country has returned to its pre-2010 state. However, the economy of Natinar took a huge blow from the civil unrest. Although it is holding strong, it is not improving significantly. However, President Klein has put faith in the people of Natinar, calling them "of a hard, sturdy substance that shall lead us to further liberty and prosperity." He further called for peace and order in the newly restored nation.

"Liberty is not a gift granted to human beings -- it must be achieved through intelligence, wisdom, and defiance to that which has the power to oppress us." -- Ishmael Klein, President of the United Republic of Natinar

The gray, bleak skies and brief snow flurries did little to slow any activity in Aarden, capital of Natinar. Aarden, surrounded by river almost entirely, is connected through a series of bridges and transit lines. On this day, the dark waters were in contrast to a bright and flowing city, always busy and always churning with controversy. Aarden at this time was cold, solid, and harsh. Northern winds did little comfort the embittered souls that lived there. Through their daily lives, they felt an experience that seemed to degrade as time went by -- the economy was sinking and nobody had done anything to stop.

After the Decade of Confusion, the industrial infrastructure of Natinar had been completely diassembled, if not ravaged. Though the government continued to struggle, economic decline prevailed. Twenty years ago, Natinar was under a completely different government with totally reversed living conditions. The standard of life since then had declined dramatically, mostly due to civil unrest. Once a land of trees and greenery, civil strife and internal destruction contributed to deforestation and neglect of the environment. The Antarctic Penguin, Natinar's national animal, was on the brink of extinction. Public buildings stood in disrepair, in danger of collapse.

Men and women walked the streets without jobs -- sometimes forced out of work due to the declining economic situation. Businesses were closing, and government was powerless to stop it. President Ishmael Klein was busy with fighting insurgency, and had little time or money to inject strength into the national economy. Even after the end of the unrest, President Klein still struggled to pump money into the government's coffers, only to be criticized for increased taxes.

Now, to the present. Klein is up for re-election in a year, and most people are critical of his policies. Little has been done to alleviate the strife and poverty that has stricken the people of Natinar, at least in comparison to the lives they led before Anna Merstein was elected into office. Klein, at last realizing the fate of his office and country are at stake, has decided to appeal for international help, a move that is regarded with great embrace in the country.

As part of an attempt to attract international companies, Klein has promised to waiver fees and taxes for all entering companies for a period of four years after their establishment in the country. The company, however, must have an operating businessplace before the four-year tax exemption term actually begins. Though some Natinari have protested to the point of outright violence, the President has maintained that inviting foreign powers is a solid basis for establishing strong international trade relationships. Thus, he argues, the United Republic will rise in prosperity and wealth to the benefit all citizens.

Greetings to the international community,

The United Republic of Natinar has risen from its humble existence to spread beyond our nation. We are strong believers in the principles of freedom and modern democracy, following the path that great minds have set for us over the centuries. In our freedom, we bask. However, such freedom is not always accompanied with prosperity and wealth, such things that Natinar currently lacks. In an attempt to establish international relations and friendships, as well as beneficial trade deals and the establishment of foreign companies in our nation, Natinar has found it desirable to reach out.

As an incentive, all entering companies will be waivered from usual fees for establishment. Also, taxes will be waivered for the first four years of operating business. Please note that this is not to be exploited -- Natinar is not to be cheated. We are also encouraging other nations to seek trade deals with our nation, and we do follow a very open and free trade policy. Possible exports available include agricultural products, media, media equipment, gambling industries, and soda industries. It is our hope that other nations will profess an interest in trade with Natinar.

As a final note, we thank all those that consider this message. May prosperity carry you forth gracefully.

President Ishmael Klein
