A Friendship Restored? [ATTN Austar Union]
From: Ambassador Delian Rand
To: Austarian ambassador in Reichsburg
Subj: Diplomatic meetings
Dear Sir!
I know that the relations between our nations have been pretty strained recently. However, I trust that an effort can be made – that the wrong can be righted – that they can yet be improved. For this purpose, I suggest that a diplomatic meeting be held between us – of a semi-formal nature. Therefore, I believe I have only one resort – to ask you out to dinner at some restaurant of your choice at the fine city of Reichsburg.
Sincerely yours,
Delian Ran, Confederate States Ambassador to the Imperial Capital

V.E.R.I.T.A.S. Facilitated Headquarters, the Eternal Noldorin Empire of Menelmacar
"What do we have here?" Peter asked, picking up the hard-copy which had just been dropped on his desk. "A transmission, from the Allaneans?"
Judy turned back from her course, "Aye. It seems that Anatoba City has re-routed their transmission to here. There was a little tag attached." She leaned over and pointed, "Here."
Peter read the tag, "Here is a copy of the transmission recieved and re-routed to Anatoba City. It seems that their intelligence is rather lacking, and that they dont realise an Austarian Embassy in Reichsburg is... nonexistant. But, we thought that since things are rather quiet in the V.E.R.I.T.A.S. Chambers, you would be an appropriate candidate. Have fun. -Lord Juno Sanchez"
Peter groaned and rolled his eyes; Judy in the meantime smirked in personal delight. It wasnt often she gained joy out of the suffering of another, but this was a special circumstance. It was often relflected in the attitudes of (most) Austarian abroad... the Allaneans were a people's one doesnt want to touch with a ten foot stick, perhaps even an eleven. But nevertheless, there was little Peter could do--although he wished they had chosen somebody else for the job.
"Ah well," he sighed, looking out to the rest of the office. "Judy, would you help pack a few things? I'll head out to Reichsburg and be there tommorow. Take any messages for me, et cetera et cetera. You know the drill." He paused, raising both eyebrows at her. "Do me a favour would you?"
Judy smiled from the corner of her mouth, "It depends on what it is you want."
"Just keep this quiet would you," he snickered. "I dont want the jokes following me around for the next two years."
She smiled. "Now why would I do that?" Judy answered sarcastically, tapping her foot with arms crossed. "Come on, we have to get you ready. I'll organise all the 'behind the scenes' jargon."

{TO: Ambassador Delian Rand - Allanea, Reichsburg}
{SUBJECT: Re: Diplomatic Meetings}
Translated from Italian...
I accept your offer, but given my lack of personal knowledge of Reichsburg itself--must leave the location up to you. I will be flying in from Menelmacar at $time on the $date. Security has already been arranged on my end, and I look forward to meeting with you personally.
With Respect,
-Peter Montescu
Representative to V.E.R.I.T.A.S.

Ambasador Delian Rand blinked at her clerk. “You addressed it where?” The young man blushed – but only slightly. “To their embassy at Reichsburg, your Honor.” She screams semi-intelligibily as she slapped him with all her strength. “You bloody fucking son of an Edolian communist whore, the Austarians don’t have and embassy in Reichsburg! Damn you thrice to hell, making me look like a fool like that! I will duel your sorry ass and blow you to hell – once it is all over. Now get the cars ready! Now, you sorry loser, or I am going to make sure you never get a fucking job again! Do you understand me, you maggot?”
He shuddered in horror, realizing the threat about the duel was real – and that the Ambassador was a hell of a good shot. “Y-yes… you Honor… I’ll be right on to it…” And he bolted out of the room.
Several hours later, Reichsburg International Airport
Delian Rand’s furious scowl changed slowly as she saw the Austarian jet descend. She looked back at the luxury vehicles that awaited to carry her and and the foreigner to the Eau D’Elysium restaurant. She hoped that would be good enough. The city certainly had no better.

Section 8a: Security Issues
From: Diplomatic Corps Official Handbook
[Extract] It is within due standard and respect, that Diplomatic Units of the Austar Union will not carry out undue checks and survellience on the surrounding areas -- unless there is due reasoning for concern. Natural protocol will call for and only call for a basis of trust on natural meetings and visitations, whereby the Diplomat in question will have access to minimal of his own security, and a maximum of foriegn security protection. For future reference, this section may be suspended in extreme or due circumstances.

Such was indeed a time to "ignore" standard protocol when dealing with a foriegn official. Standards had warned and forwarded a "red entry", otherwise known as a "Black Flag" to the Foriegn Ministry upon organising Peter's departure, and so as a result quite a large team of Security Personell had been sent along with him. That, and given the proverbial stature Peter actually held within the D.C. ; Sure, he was important enough. Besides, things had been rather quite out at VERITAS... only gathering to the weight in Indigo's mind that the organisation had become rather defunct, useless, et cetera.
Touching down, Peter's "jet", or rather "craft" landed with ease. Given the technological backwards nature of these lands, it was obvious why they had to disguise it as such--no use in providing fear to the billions of individuals whom resided here. Poor souls. In the meantime, soon enough he would find himself on the tarmac, rather surrounded by an almost over-done version of Austarian Security. The location was, "uncertain", and was treated as such. And as for the Allanean Ambassador, Peter would take no precautions. His security would ride with him.
"Good to meet you," he fake-smiled, using all the skills he could muster. "I'm not sure what you had in mind, exactly. So I hope you dont mind leading the way."
Peter did rather well actually--the D.C. were an expertise of fake emotions, et cetera. Afterall, relations were ultimately built on the image given and exchanged between two individuals. Fooling another was usually not needed, but even sometimes rather important to the context of things.

Ms. Galt smiled as she saw the jet-like craft pass low between the gravitic freighters already parced on the tarmac of the airfield. All was proceeding exactly as she has planned - and perhaps even better. Even as the Austarian security men descended, the friendly expression on Galt's face did not change - even despite she 'dug' the rather unsubtle hint. She nodded in a friendly fashion as she heard the Ambassador speak. Very well, Sir. I understand you are not familiar with the city - and I will be happy to show it to you. Driver, take us to Eau D'Elysium.'. The column of diplomatic vehicles took off, taking the two and their escort off to the luxurious restaurant.
Eau D'Elysium was one of the best places in Reichsburg. So far untainted with modernity, it was a direct continuer of the great dining places of 18th-century Paris and early 20th-century Vienna. Famous Dersconian and Reichskamphian wines, Allanean game meat, and Nova-Prussian caviar were on the menu, as well as imported elven wines from Menelmacar. Right now, a string quartet was playing in the restaurant - as such, they were plaing Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps, but it was unlikely that the Austarian would recognise the music.
Galt smiled. 'Well, Sir, welcome to the Empire. What will you have?' - she tossed over the menu as they both sat down.

Peter gave a polite glance over the menu and frowned. "Hm," he pondered out loud. "I think I'll probably just get that meat," he pointed. "Here."
He sat back into his seat, "Nice resturaunt, you have here."
The ice was solid, it seemed.
The Allanean smiled. "Indeed."
She passed a written note to the waiter - and the food and a bottle of wine that any enthusiast could approve of appear.
"Well, Sir... I know our nations have been pretty hostile in the past... but one thinks this doesn't have to last forever."

Peter sighed inwardly. "Quite so," he frowned, and paused for a moment. "I hate to be so blunt, but tell me. What is it exactly we are trying to achieve here? Some reconciliation, forgiveness for the past, a treaty perhaps?"
He shrugged, "The ball's in your court. You are the one who invited me here, and you are to one with some goal in mind." He smirked. "At least, I hope you have some goal in mind."
“As a beginning, I would like to do two things: First, I would like to make sure that our government exchange proper embassies. Second, I would like to know if arrangements could be made for Allaneans to be able to send their children to colleges in Austar Union.”

Peter frowned, he had to be blunt; "We're not too interested at establishing an Embassy at this point." He explained further. "Given a lack of a bright future in relations, I doubt it even nessasary. And even if you want it still, we arent in the habit of just establishing an embassy with anyone."
He nodded, "You're diplomats have proven to be unworthy, with all respect to yourself Madam." He continued. "As for the opening of our educational facilities, I dont particularly have any objections. Our system is privatized you see, so if your private citizens are able to get a student visa and a letter of acceptance, I dont see any issues."
"Of course," he frowned again. "Dont encourage to have too high an expectation. Our society is quite aristocratic in nature, so dont be too surprised if Allanean children are frowned upon as 'filth'. Their opinion, not mine."
"One would note that the future of those relations... depend greatly of what you do here."

Shrugging, Peter responded the best way he knew how. "I fully understand," he gave a weak smile. "I do apoligise for our seeming lack of interest. But I guess as they say, the future is usually best defined by previous or past actions. I cant speak much for my government's actual desire, I'm afraid."
"And they're just not willing to budge; to give that fifth or sixth chance again," he chuckled, trying to shrug off the real insult to his comments. "Perhaps though it would be better that we find at least some common ground, so that my trip here was not to be wasted? Afterall, I can still enjoy the company..."
