Stormy Weather

Kurona
26-09-2005, 18:11
(NIGHT) A loud clap of thunder awoke the young ruler, Princess Tomoyo. She got out of bed. It seemed like another typical night this week, a period of calm, followeb by yet another storm. But this week had not been so typical. A werid global climate fluxuation has had Kurona on a stand still. Sever weather has plauged the poor nation, and battered it to death. Many farmers have lost their crops to hail, floods, or twisters. Towns have been demolished by the ever harsh storms. Just how many more we're damaged by today's storms, and how much will be damaged by tonights, is still a mystery. As Kurona has still lived much in the past, not caring for the modern-capitalist ideals of the world. Tomoyo had been taught this, ever since it would be announced she would take the thorne. She wasn't only taught this, she belived it with all her heart. She felt by remaning slightly isolated from modern times, and the world, the country was held together. Fewer Divorce rates, abuse rates, and coruption scandles have occured. But now Kurona was in a time of need. It's econmoy is week, and the country is being battered constantly by harsh storms. Hurricanes, Tornados, Floods, Hail, wind and rain. She had thought about what Kurona's plans will be, and she finally decided. The next morning Tomoyo put on her crown jewls, maid her hair raven hair nice and neat, straightend her Kimono, and left her quarters. She was ready to adress her Ministers of State, and the Parliment. She entered the large chamber where the Parliment meets.
"Good Morning" she said with a bow.
Her Cheif Cabinate Advisor grunted out "Some fine morning. Rain Rain and more rain."
Her Minister of Internal Affairs handed her a file. "Last nights damage report" she said to Tomoyo.
Tomoyo stood and spoke: "As you know, the climate of Kurona hasn't been freindly. Harsh storms have battered our cities, farms, and coasts. Our economy is struggling to keep up with the claims. Over 12.8 Billion Kuromians worth of Claims has been filed. I know in the past it's been the tradition of this nation to keep to it's self, but now I feel we have no choice. We must call on the international community."

Many murmerd in disbelief. Her Minister of Defense Yasuhiko Yomatto spoke out: "Mi-lady, with all due respect, Kurona would have no way to repay any debt. And some countries come in to other countries, claiming they are for humanitarien aid, but then take over. Kurona should just pick up the take care of it's self."

"Enough!" Tomoyo stated. "We do not have the finacial strength or the man-power to help everyone! Farmers everyday are losing their crops to hail or other disaters. Cities along the coast, cities we depend on for trought framing, are flooded, or underwater. And I fear we haven't seen the end of this. I shall adress all nations of Xanadou, the world, the United Nations, and the Leauge of Small Regions, for aid. For all we know Sonomi (which is the Capital City) could be the next to be raveged by a twister, or a hurricane. Put under water. Li Hirohito!"

Her Minister of Foreign Affairs ran to her "I am here, your highness."
Tomoyo Responed: "Please Send an international note out to the world..."

He grabed some paper and a pen. "Right"

Tomoyo dictated the letter: "Dearest Nations of the World, The Principality of Kurona has fallen into troubled times. Our weather is drastically shifting into violent moods. Many of our costal towns are flooded. Many farms and farm comunties have been destroyed, or are short on food. This is taking a drastic toll on our economy and our people. Food shortages are estimated to skyrocket over the next 72 hours. We need all the help we can get, to weather this. I am asking for: Medical Staff, Insurance and Social Security Agents, Food Rations, and expert meteorologists. All will be welcome into the nation, and be accomidated by the Government. I also ask aid from the United Nations, and the Leauge of Small Regions. Kurona is a member, but unfortunatley nither my self, nor any other delgates can make the journey to the Leauge HQ, and adress the General Assembly.
Sincerly,
Tomoyo Mikanu-Princess of Kurona."

Li finished the letter. "Done. This will be sent out to all Regions of the World, and all news stations. I will take the letter my self."

Tomoyo noded. "Becareful Li. The storm doesn't seem to be letting up."

He saluted her "For the nation!"

Berry Herrigton recived the letter. Fortunatley this time it wasn't another call to action of extreem disaporval regarding another nation. He put on his glasses and read the letter. "My oh my." He walked down the hall to the Prime Ministers office. He knocked

Steven Koolridge: Come.

Berry: PM, I've just recived a letter from the Principality of Kurona. It seemes they are in need of some disaster relife. They've called on Kanami to do it.

Steven: How soon and what?

Berry: Likely as soon as they can. Medical aid, food rations, the works.

Steven: Okay assemble the Humanitarien Team. Call all the local Humanties Center tell them of the situation. Also contact our U.N. Represenative, let's make sure that this poor nation isn't at the mercy of both the weather and greedy nations.

Berry: Yes sir.

Berry Walked out

Steven: Hopefully this time the World Will ACTUALLY care.

Saying that out of the recent situation they had gotten involved in Stevid, and Kanami being the only nation that seemd to care. He picked up the phone.

Steven: Will you please call my cabinate in here? Thank you.

His whole Cabinate had assembled. Some we're rather nervous. The last time an emergency meeting was called, poltical turmoil nearly created war.

Molly Anderson (Min. of Homeland Security) So what's this about? Another nation making you mad?

The cabinate chuckled

Steven chuckled himself "No not this time. This time we need to discuss an emergency humanitarian aid to Kurona. Kurona is a freindly nation to us, and we should show the same gratitude. And we should help because it's right. Apparently storms have been plauging the nation, crippiling it basically. Food shortages are reported, damage is heavy, and riots are likely to start. We need to plan a full mission into Kurona. I'm going to need engineers for leavy's, and building conditions. I need expert metorologists, peace keeping forces and anything else to help Kurona weather the storm. And we certianlly need a World Balance Force to keep invaders, and exploiters out. Let's get to work.

Tomoyo stood at the large glass windows staring at the darkend skies. Kurona was in absolute turmoil. Riots we're breaking out, many are still pinned by flood waters with no way out. Not to mention she had no way of knowing if Li we're still alive. There was more to them than just a represnative relationship. They we're best freinds growing up. Li a poor farm kid, who's family struggled to make end's meet, Tomoyo was an upper class royalty girl being trained to comand the parliment once her parents would pass on. They had a secreat love affair going on for a long time. Even in the Parliment they are very much in love. Both only being teenagers no one really took noticed or thought of it as bad governing. Her Defense Minister walked into the room.

"Any word on Li, General?" She asked

"I'm afraid there has been non about his werabouts mi-lady."

Thunder rumbled. Tomoyo stated: "Sonomi (the capital city) can't take much more rain. Soon we'll be underwater, if this weather doesn't let up.

The General hestiantly walked up beside her. "I'm not going to lie to you mi-lady, so far no nations have responded to our calls (the info process is very slow with so few technologies) and it could be likely no one will."

Tomoyo looked up to him with disbelife "Some one has too. Some one in the world has to care enough about us, to help us. How could the world be so cold to turn it's backs? What about Kanami? Unless they are still dealing with the issues of Stevid."

"No word on Kanami's possition yet your highness. " He replied "I only hope someone will answer the call."

Time seemed to be running out. Sooner or later the city would be underwater, how deep who knows? Tomoyo continued to worry. She had over 200 hundred lives hianing in the balance of her nation. She wrote in her diary, she figured at the rate things we're going it would be a shameful template for the world to see.

"I never thought the world could be so apathetic. Igonoring the pleading cries of a nation in it's desperate hour. Kurona is suffering, and I can do nothing. Everything I had been taught is failing. Was the God that many belived in so angry?" Tomoyo wasn't a Christian of any kind. She was a devout Shinto, but shintaoism wouldn't save her. Should she start praying to a God she didn't belive in as it was? "I only hope that maybe someone has finally deciding to come to our aid. Perhaps, but if not let this diary of mine be forever a template, of what happend to the nation of Kurona."

Czarna, capital of Czardas. Night.

Rain and thunder.

It is not easy to see the lightning from inside Congress Hall, but everyone knows it to be there. The Council shifts uneasily.

It is just another thunderstorm passing through Czarna, part of a cold front that seems to be headed inexorably west. But elsewhere the cold front appears to be at a standstill. Foreign Minister Alhoun is the first to speak up. The democratically elected subcommittee has just given its report, and everyone is feeling very uncomfortable.

"Look, Mr. Secretary-General. I wish we could help these people, but the fact of the matter is, we're at war. It's just not going to be possible. All our resources are directed at defending the coast and—"

Secretary-General Caverra puts up a hand, stemming Alhoun's outburst. "We're at war, yes. But we need only our armed forces to defend us, really."

"So what do you propose we do?"

Caverra says, "Currently we have a trade surplus of $49 billion, of which we are using $16 billion for military repairs after the initial missile strike. It is enough for the entire population of Kurona to live on for several months. I see no reason why we can't use that."

"I thought we were using that to buy materials for our planes," says the Minister of Finance.

"No; that is from the sales tax increase from 6.25% to 10%. This money is still untouched and usable."

"So what do you propose we do?"

"Send money to Kurona, along with food, supplies, and anything else they need. Also, we can send engineers and meteorologists to discover what's going on there, and how to reinforce the shores and flood networks to prevent massive flooding inland."

The Minister of Finance looks doubtful. "That will cost... nearly $30 billion. We'll have very little money left over from that."

"Look, I'm sure the people won't mind higher taxes for international aid. We've increased them past 80% without too much protest." This from the Minister of Transportation.

"Oh, all right," says Alhoun. "Let me just draft a message, and we can send the stuff."

From: The Libertarian Concordance of Czardas
To: Kurona

Greetings from the Concordance of Czardas! Hearing of your plight, we are sending food, supplies, drainage tubing, and money in amounts of up to $30 billion (USD). In addition, we will send a team of engineers, meteorologists, architects, peacekeepers, and other necessary personnel to repair the damage, construct anti-flood networks, control rioting, and determine the cause of the storms. If there is anything else you need, contact us. Once again, the Concordance sends you its greeting and wishes you a pleasant day, despite the weather.

The Massive Kanami C-130 Took flew through the dark snowy night, over Kurona's Northern Border. The Turbulance was more than the crew could bear.

Piolet: The Turbulance is awfully heavy. Main Engins 95%

Co-Piolet: I have no readings on the scopes. If any other air-craft are flying over this region we could be in a lot of trouble.

Alarms blair loudly though the cabin.

Piolet: Oh no, I think we're in trouble. We're going down.

Kanami's Parliment-Night

Steven looked over the Humaniarien budget. His General walked in.

General: Sir, I'm afriad one of our C-130's has gone down over the ice-capped Northern Kurona.

Steven: any word of survivors?

General: Non yet sir, however we have been talking over w/the metorologists and we have found the North side is being bashed by a freezing arctic wind, creating massive abounts of snow, ice and negative tempratures. It's likely we can not fly through the north region.

Steven: But it's the most direct and safest route into Kurona, from Kanami.

General: I know we can't abandon them sir, but we may have to figure away around. This is a satalite photo of the whole nation.

Steven: My God, it's an absolute mess. She wasn't kidding.

Genreal: Even if we do get into Kurona there is no way we can set up a base of operations.

Steven: we'll have to set it up in one of their neighboring countries. If they'll let us.

The General walked into the royal chambers. "Mi-lady I have some great news. It seems two nations have answerd our calls for help, and are in the process of it right now."

"That's wonderful Who is it?"

"Kanami and Czardas so far. It's to be said if any one else got the message or will actually act upon the message."

"Two nations, is not a bad start. I wish I could instantly write my
extreem gratitude to both of them."

"You'll get your chance. With the equipment being sent to us it's quiet possible that Sonomi will not be completly flooded. Allowing us to run the Government."

Tomoyo's happy expresion dropped in realizing the reality. "I just realized, we may not have any place for them to set up operations."

"We might have room for one your highness. in any case they can remain off the coast, or in one of the neigoboring nations."

"I want you to open the whole Royal Palace up. Even if you have to shut off Parlimential District, let's get who we can in here, and give them room. I don't care if you have to take over my own bedroom, just do it."

"Yes Ma'am."

Somewhere near Kurona.

"Stormy weather tonight," the pilot of one of the aircraft radios to the plane next to him. In the driving rain and wind, it is impossible to see very far beyond the windshield, and the planes rely on groundscans to keep going.

"You're telling me?" The other laughs. "Being on the flank I'm getting it full force! Whew! This would be tough for even an SM Dagger to navigate!"

"It's a lucky thing we were trained in the Air Force to be military pilots," says the first. "The AF's weathered a lot worse than this, no pun intended."

"I wonder at that," chastises the other humorously. "Whoop! This turbulence's cut our speed to only about 300 m/h!"

"I don't know how long my engines can hold out," answers the first pilot. "Whew! Are the winds going out of this nation, or coming in?"

"It's not as bad as in the north," comments the second pilot. "There, apparently hurricane-force arctic winds are causing massive snow and ice buildups.

Lighting crackles through the clouds above them. The plane crews keep the engines at full throttle, but all three-score planes don't seem to be going anywhere, at least at any significant speed.

"I have an idea, let's angle ourselves east," suggests the first pilot. "Then we'll be with the wind, so we can cut some of our power."

"That's a good idea," says the second, nosing his plane around. Behind them, the other planes follow suit, turning into the wind. Immediately they shoot forward, carried on by 120-mi/h winds.

The second pilot takes another groundscan of the area. They're now over Kurona's west coast, or what's left of it.

"This is worse than Hailey and our relief efforts in '92," comments the second pilot. "I was on that mission, but there was nothing this bad."

"Dude, Hailey was nothing compared to this," says the first. "Hailey was like a drip in the bucket compared to a rainstorm. And.....shhhh....crrrrr......we.....crrrr.....ffffft.....water...." His radio transmission dies, and the second pilot sees why: lightning is interfering.

"We can't go very much farther," calls out a plane from behind the second pilot.

As if to reinforce his words, the wind suddenly shifts, carrying the convoy of planes north. With a significant effort they return to their chosen path, heading for Sonomi.

"We've got to go o—" the pilot calls, when the alert sounds. "What is it?"

"Fitzhugh reporting from the ground, sir. 42 is down with all other crew and equipment, hit by lightning. Passengers all safe. We have landed in a small village slowly flooding from nearby stream. What to do?"

"Stay there. I'll have two more with you in a minute." 42 had been the lightest plane, carrying a team of engineers and a small peacekeeping force. The obvious thing to do would be to call on the next lightest. "37, 19, to ground immediately. Seek wreckage of 42 immediately. Over."

The first pilot has managed to re-establish contact with his comrade by that point. "Whoa, that was scary."

The second pilot, team leader Johan Laertes, pointed ahead towards a collection of lights. "I think that's Sonomi."

The group of planes approaches Kurona's capital as their next assignment comes in from Admiral-Marshal Karlsen, commander of Czardas's air force. "Plane downed in northern Kurona, pick up survivors. Intelligence intercepted from Kanami. Plane type C-130. Over."

Princess Diane and the Grand Vizzer Bron looked at the reports from Kurona with a little concern. "Has there been any weather like this reported in the Empire?" the Princess asked of her Grand Uncle and de facto Head of State until a new ruler (hopefully her) was elected by the Imperial Senate.

"No Your Majesty, I can thank Yellow Heaven for that." the Grand Vizzer said with a sigh of relief. "I am glad that our nation is converting it's power to Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Biodiesel." the Princess said to her Grand Uncle, "But if I gain the throne I will push such policies as fast as the nation can handle them."

"Of course mi'dear, of course." Diane's Grand Uncle said as he patted her lace-gloved hand.

(Sorry I havent been posting guys, I've been sick and really busy)

IC: General: "Princess Tomoyo" He bowed

Tomoyo Bowed "Yes General."

"Apparently the convoys are having troubles getting here. A plane from Kanami crashed in the north and a ship from Czardas is down."

Tomoyo looked out the window nervously. "We are running out of time. Can they make it?"

"I'm not sure. I've sent out a rescue unit to retrive the parties stranded, but it could be some time."

"time is the one thing we don't have General. Tell any nation to approach from the south west, weast or east. I know it'll be time consuming but they'll need to know."

"yes ma'am." He bowed and exited.

"Soma."

Her hand maiden ran up. "Yes mi-lady?"

"Go home Soma. Be with your family."

"Mi-lady are you sure?"

"Absolutely sure. Your children need you right now. I'll be fine."

"Thank you mi-lady."

They both bowe.

Soma leaves. One of her Parliment members walks up to her slowly.

"Mi-lady. I can see you seem troubeled."

"I am Iruka."

"You know Music does help calm, and relax. I have my Violine with me, shall I play?"

"Sure."

"What shall I play for you?"

"I don't mind, you pick."

"Well, I have one in mind. But seeing as you are not Christian, I-"

"Play it. I'd love to hear it."

With out any other words he starts playing
"Nearer My God To Thee"

Despite Tomoyo following Shintaoism, she's very moved by the piece. Several other musicians join in along with Iruka. Tomoyo looks out the window at the already gradually flooding streets. People all about scramble to get into shelter, to get home, to evacuate. Despite these small crowds the city is virtually empty. The musicians finish the piece.

Tomoyo turns to them "Gentalmen, that was fine playing."

Steven sat pondering of what to do. Non of the neigboring nations answerd his call.

Berry: Sir there is nothing more we can do, the weather there is to harsh.

Steven: I will not let these people die!

Molly: (Home Land Security) Sir with all due respect, there is no way any of our planes can make it through this harsh weather.

Steven: wait a moment. Maybe....

He pulls a satalite photo of cross regions.

Steven: Perhaps there is. let's see the nearest nation is....Stevid.

Berry: Stevid. You are going to go ask a nation that you have bitter resentment with, to launch a major mission.

Steven: Surley the Stevids have a sense of humantie. Can boost their poltical status, instead of being vastley un popular with the rest of the world.

An order comes through to the other planes from Laertes. "1 through 16, you people go towards Sonomi and pick up whatever members of the government are there. The rest of you, leave your forces in the city and get them to build dikes, drains... anything to keep the water out. After you've done this, 17, 18, 20, 24, 26, 33, 38—you people follow me. We're going to find that C-130."

Voices of assent come through on the radios, crackling. The plane force splits up.

The sixteen planes, most of which are light transports with room for evacuees, break formation and fly towards the royal palace, flying low enough that they will be spotted. Their leader sends out a message to the Princess, Cabinet, and Parliament.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings! We are members of an air convoy from the Libertarian Concordance of Czardas. We would like to request that all government officials exit the building for immediate transport to a safer location. The situation in Sonomi will be under control momentarily, as the rest of our convoy is landing peacekeeping forces, equipment, medics, and other necessities.
~Captain R. C. Kushnyev of the Czardaian Air Force
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The other planes, meanwhile, begin landing in the city, which is already starting to flood. They land and soldiers, engineers, meterologists, medics, and transport personnel lugging equipment all spill out. The VTOL aircraft are able to land in the streets, but the rest discharge their loads outside of the city on higher ground, and the groups of Czardaian personnel make their way down to the city, to prepare to end the flooding.

A few of the planes touch down, disgorge their personnel, and take off again, headed northwards. These are the best pilots in the convoy. Air Comm. Laertes has selected them well. The group of planes flies through the endless rain, unable due to the wind and lightning to get above the cloud barrier. The rain changes to snow and hail as the planes approach the mountains, and the planes, attempting to melt the snow and ice as they land on it, speed up to nearly impossible speeds.

The alert blinks. "Groundscan reports wreckage. No sign of life. Descend 5000, seek landing field or release rope ladders."

The planes descend, keeping their engines at full throttle just to stay in one place. "No sign of available landing field, Commander."

"Descend to ladder distance and drop ladders. Put on appropriate gear. Send out medics."

Long rope ladders unfurl from the bottoms of the aircraft as hatches open and orange-clad personnel climb down towards the wreckage of the C-130.

PM Cabinet Meeting- Stevid Capita

The PM had just put down the phone. He had a half smile on his face, now days he almost always did what with his promotion after the international incident Stevid had been involved not all that long ago.
The cabinet were sitting around him reviewing notes and eavesdropping on the lengthy conversation Conroy had just had on the phone with the foreign office, just across the road.

“Ladies and gentlemen. That was the foreign office, quite an un-usual phone call I must say. Involving a good “friend” of ours. I’m sure you’ve been watching the news lately and I’m sure you’ve all seen the state that that poor country is in. The weather has gotten worse over in Kurona. Snow storms, lightening, hail, stormy rains, driving winds you name it, the poor country has had it over the past few days. Their cities have experienced flooding and other terrible weather conditions.”

“So?” said a fellow cabinet minister rather spitefully.

“So? Well the foreign office has just got off the phone with Kanami. They have requested our assistance in this matter of helping a distressed nation in need.”

“Why is it our business?”

“Two points my dear man. Firstly it’s the right thing to do, secondly take a look at the globe. Geographically we are just less than four hundred nautical miles away from Kurona. We are one of the closest nations and one of the biggest nations near to Kurona capable of mounting a seriously large relief operation. I have had the foreign office reply to Kanami with my views, they have received the message and I’m sure they will be pleased with the response.”

The first Sea Lord now spoke up; he had been un-usually quiet throughout the whole meeting and had taken a sort of back seat. But he sat up when the PM mentioned nautical miles.

“Sir? You want the Navy to set up ship and mount a relief effort?”

“Yes and no. I have allowed Kanami limited access to our waters so that they can use it as a safe haven from the turbulent country in need.”

The cabinet stirred at this comment. Kanami naval vessel being allowed into Stevidian waters didn’t go down well. It was unheard of and was quite out of character of the PM to act like that.

“But Sir! With all due respect I must protest. Kanami and Stevid have only just signed a pact of neutrality. They are not completely trust worthy! They’ll want to get their own BACK!”

“Quiet down Alan! There is no need to shout. Your objection is noted Admiral West but this is neither in their interest nor ours. We have nothing to fear from their the task force they are sending. They will have a large escort fleet… just in case. But I assure you; they are doing it as a gesture of good will. They are going to be able to set up a temporary command centre and will have full access to medical supplies within Stevid borders, but that is as much as they are getting at the moment.”

“How many ships have you allowed in?” questioned the Admiral.

“I have allowed at least twenty-five Kanami naval vessels and as many hospital ships as they like. It is all in good faith.”

The whole cabinet hated the prospect of allowing Kanami vessels into Stevid waters, despite what the non-aggression said the people of Stevid were not oblivious to the fact that a nation with fragile diplomatic ties were allowed into the seas of Stevid.

“Admiral, send one CVF carrier, six Type- 45 destroyers, one Crystalline Cruiser and four hospital ships to the nation of Kurona and provide relief effort. Dismissed”

Everyone filed out of the room with glum looks on their faces, they knew it was a gamble but people were in need. If Kanami need access to help people in need they would get it.

Tomoyo was handed the note and read it quickly. "Very well."

Tomoyo stood up before the parliment. "Ladies and Gentalmen, several nations are enroute to the capital. They need as much space as they can get. That means I have to evacuate the building. If you have experience in Medical profession, please stay. also Bi, tri and Quadlingual people are needed. You have all served me well. Please return to your famlies. "We can't touch down!" shouts one of the CAF pilots hovering over Sonomi, over the noise of the rain and wind. Static crackles over the radios.

"What?"

"The streets are clogged, there's no clear airfield for miles, and the wind's too heavy! This is impossible."

"Nothing is impossible," responds the commander. "Drop your rope ladders, and get them up. Now."

A megaphone extends from the leader's plane as he commands in all of the languages spoken by the Kuronans, "Greetings all! We would like to request that you follow these instructions. Affix the extended rope ladders to the ground to prevent them from being blown away by the wind. Then, all persons must climb the rope ladders. We are unable to make a landing here. Kindly climb aboard and we will transport you to a safer location."

In addition, in case the wind is too strong for the people below to hear, the communication is sent directly to the royal palace.

----------------------------

The Minister of Transportation turns to Foreign Minister Alhoun. "We've just received the latest reports from Kurona. The planes have managed to find only two or three safe airfields in the whole country."

"That is problematic," says Alhoun. "Hmmm... So what do you recommend we do?"

"We should send out our carriers," the answer comes from Defense Minister Violet Astoria. "We may have only four of them, but it ought to be enough."

Alhoun is skeptical. "With those storms, do you know how rough the seas are? Waves are fifteen feet high, and that's in comparatively calm times. Besides, Kurona is hundreds of miles away. How would we get supplies to them?"

"Without any airfields, how do you expect the planes to land and refuel?" asks Astoria.

"All right. Send out a few carriers, and throw in some extra personnel as well. This looks like it's going to be a larger op than we thought."

And the Council adjourns.

Lt: Sir, we are 312 Nauticel Miles from Stevid, ETA is 3 hours.

Commander: Thank you Brian. Now let's let the pride of the Kanami Navy shine. Full steam ahead!

The two orange-clad emergency workers, after affixing the rope ladders to some ice-covered rocks while the planes hover overhead, begin to search among the wreckage.

"Not much sign of survivors, is there?" queries one.

"Nothing here," says the other.

Another rope ladder drops and the pair quickly tie the ends to an outcropping on a large boulder. Snow whips through the sky as more emergency workers and medics climb down.

The two workers follow one of the wings into the main body of the plane. Dead bodies lie everywhere, shattered, smashed, a gruesome sight. The plane had split in half over a huge rockface. The lower half, from the tail to the wings, appears to be lost forever, sliding down into the depths beyond a precipice. The upper half has survived, but the people inside it don't seem to.

"Here's a few still alive," reports one worker. "Medic?"

Another orange-clad person, unrecognizable except by the silver medic badge, steps in and begins to work on an injured, unconscious man. More medics arrive from other planes, dressing multiple wounds. The original two emergency workers make their way into the cockpit, and the pilot looks up at them uncomprehending for a moment.

"Here's another!"

As they work on the injured crew members and passengers, a call comes in from Laertes.

"Hey, we don't have unlimited fuel here," the commander's voice crackles across the radios. "Hurry it up down there."

The personnel begin to carry the injured to the rope ladders and climb up towards the planes.

Whatever equipment the C-130 bore is lost—destroyed or fallen. Overall the flight does not appear to have been a success.

Open Seas- Stevid Relief Task Force 451.6- Night

The sea was rough, dark and frightening. The waves whipped across the bow of the enormous Stevidian CVF carrier, HMS Frightful, the dark waves home to millions of creatures unknown. It was a terrifying abyss of despair that the sailors of the Royal Navy were al too used to. But there was something in the air and around the small Stevid naval task force and it wasn’t the salty sea air that they couldn’t get enough of.

It was apprehension, not fear as such but one couldn’t really describe it. If one had been a regular Petty Officer in the RNS then one would have seen some choppy seas in their time, but this storm was different. The task force was half way to a friendly harbour of a distressed nation and they were already beginning to feel the effect of climate change. Reports from the south already suggested that there were gale force winds up fifty miles per hour and more, bringing with it driving heavy rain, and with that bringing deadly flooding to the coastal population centres.

Stevid has had some terrible weather in its long proud history but the reports of the hurricane arctic winds to the north of the nation were freezing entire cities and the sailors knew that they were, one way or another, going to be there in the thick of it.

The ships were rolling in the waves and HMS Frightful was carrying a sleeping crew. The bridge was well lit up and if one were to look upon it from outside in the pouring rain on the flight deck, it looked very inviting. It was, the bridge was very warm and it was amazing to see the crew still awake in the warmth. The captain, Captain Bill Rogers, was sitting in the Captain’s Chair reviewing the reports of deaths due to flooding and other natural catastrophes happening at the moment, he had also been reading over the disturbing reports of allied medical aircraft crashing in the nation.

“Shit… It’s going to be a hell of a month.” He said to himself as put the papers down and sipped his evening tea.

The storm knocked the ship about some more, rather violently in fact that Rogers lost grip of his tea and it smashed on to the floor.

“Damn… GET SOMEONE to clean that up!”

Someone shouted “Yes Sir!” in the distance. Rogers walked swiftly to Starboard and grabbed a bright yellow anorak and buttoned it up to the top and pulled over the hood. He opened the door to the observation deck next to the bridge. The strong, bitterly cold wind smacked him in the face. He walked through the door and closed before approaching a man wearing the same as him but looking through some binoculars.

“Lieutenant King? Are you okay out here?”
“Aye sir,” the young man replied with a smile n his face. “Spiffing weather I say but it’s going to get worse.”
“Oh? Why’s that? We’re not supposed to be near the central storm for at least another two hours!”
“The waves have changed direction as has the wind, we’re riding the current at the moment we’ve cut an hour off the journey.” He then handed the binoculars to the Captain. “If you look North sir you can see some very faint lights on one of the coastal towns.”

The boy was right, they were closer than he expected, only at least four hours away. The waters to the south had few obstacles in the way of the fleet, which now upon observation, were making a course correction to compensate with the wind and wave direction.

“Shit your right! Damn it! The crew isn’t ready for this yet and more importantly the Hospital ships or our Carrier aren’t ready yet…. I’ll get on it immediately.”
“Hold on sir. At this rate we’ll have four hours till we arrive…. Give the crew say…. Another hour of sleep, they need it, it’s been a long journey and they’ve worked hard. Just one more hour, then they’ll be met with some of the harshest weather they’ve ever encountered.

The captain returned inside and headed for his quarters in a bid to get some sleep tonight.

The ships battled their way through the night-time sea and rain from hell and in the distance lay Kurona and right above it lightening could be seen striking land, striking with such accuracy that it seemed God himself was directing were the strikes of lightening were to land.

"can they make it through the worst weather ever? What if they can't, will they abandon us?" What if filled her young mind. This is the worse catastrophie she's had to deal with in her administration. She sat to write in her diary. Writing always made her feel better when she was sad, lonley, or frightend.

I feel like the stability of my nation, is the stability of a wagon. The horses are tied to pull, and I am in charge of the reigns. But the reigns are to much for me to handle. The horses are terrbiley firghtend, and are running. I pull back but they do not slow down. I've never farmed a day in my life but I've seen how farmer haul their crops in the towns, and the capital city. I'm most greatful that nations have extended their hearst to us. Even though we've never fought a war, we are not well known. I called and they answerd. I don't know the technological capablties of these nations, other than they are fully modernized. I know the odds of a nation finding a way to harness the weather are a billion to one, but who knows, maybe. If not, I'm sure they will be able to help us weather the storm. As if I didn't have enough things on my mind, Li has not returned. It is apparent he was sucessfull, but where is he? Why hasn't he returned. I'm scared for him, I hope he is all right."

Tomoy set her pen down, and looked at the black sky. Rain was falling heavy. But loud clatter started, as rain turned to hail, and thunder and lightning rang out.

"Weird. We're here to save them, and they're not coming out. With this wind, how long do they expect us to stay hovering outside?"

"Try sending the comm out again."

The leader does so, but there is still no sign of activity from within the palace.

"I hope to God we're not too late!" The lead pilot, his face ashen, watches the scene below with anxiety.

As if things could not get any worse, hail starts to fall from the sky, heavy hail the size of hand grenades, shattering ominously on the planes. Shaking and denting them. It's obvious that they cannot hold out very much longer.

20 Nautical Miles South East of the Mainland- Night

Another huge wave smashed into the great carrier, it was the eighteenth biggest wave to strike the fleet. The whole crew was awake now awoken a little under half an hour ago to the sound of rain and the gentle rocking of the ship followed swiftly with a violent shudder.

The Captain was almost thrown out of his chair and the weather watch Lieutenant had bargained that he might live longer if he stayed inside. Rogers steadied himself and walked over to the RADAR operator. He looked at the green and black screen without speaking before rushing over to the furthest window to starboard and peered out at it.

Type-45 Destroyer HMS Duncannon had turned almost one hundred and eighty degrees and had lights cutting through the darkened waves looking for someone. She buckled and rolled slightly every time a wave struck her and the more Rogers watched the more he thought they were all going to die.
He buried those thoughts deep down into head and tried to concentrate at the job at hand, but he couldn’t get it out.

“Commander! What is the status report coming from the Duncannon?”

The RADAR ops turned in his seat with a slightly worried look on his face.

“Sir, the Duncannon has reported man over board three times, the last wave that hit us hit them as well, three were swept away. They are doing all they can but they are struggling to search slowly and stay afloat let alone finding them.”

“ETA till we reach the mainland?”

“One hour sir, but the weather is significantly worse the further we approach. It’s only going to be a matter of time before we start seeing the ship beginning to capsize and lives are lost.”

“Keep going helm!” Rogers yelled at the helmsman who gave a small nod. He was an immensely experienced helmsman who never made mistakes and was a well liked and respected man among the crew. There was no fear in his eyes and was taking every wave in his stride. He used to be the helmsman of a trawler and had told many stories of storms and hurricanes he had been in. This was a walk in the park for him, even if it was a 50 000 ton Aircraft Carrier. He was struggling a bit but he had experienced worse than this in his long career in shipping.

The Duncannon gave another unhealthy lurch in a very unnatural way when the next wave crashed right over the ship. She disappeared from sight of Rogers who had a horrified look on his face. He wasn’t sure whether the sea was obscuring the view had had of the destroyer or the whole thing had been sucked into the abyss.

“REPORT ON THE DUNCANNON!!”

The RADAR ops gave a small jump and scanned his screen.
“Aye sir….uh…. RADAR confirms she is still there. Yeah, she’s still on my screen.”

“But… But where is she?”

The ship didn’t reappear before his eyes. He was about to give up when a bright piercing magnesium light hit him in the face as the HMS Duncannon pulled along the Frightening.

“I have the Duncannon on the line sir.”
“Patch her in will ya.”

“Hello again sir, sorry about that we found two of the men who were swept away and picked them up as quickly as we could. We could see the other one, presumed dead. Returning to primary mission. HMS Duncannon out.”

Rogers let out a long sigh of relief and returned to his chair that had been swivelling around in the rough seas. The fleet continued North towards rougher, more dangerous and treacherous waters.

Stevid- Docklands Port- Sunderland

Captain Hill was in a furious mood. As captain of Super Dreadnought HMS Conroy he had to set an example not just to the crew but also to the country, and not only that, the world as well. But his current mood didn’t reflect that, the Conroy never left port many times and escorting the Kanami vessels into Stevid would stretch her legs quite nicely. Captain Hill did not approve. Him and the first officer watch the approaching Kanami flagship in the force sent.

“Escort! Bah! Escort isn’t for SDN’s! No, this is Frigate and Destroyer work not a massive behemoth such as this.”
“It’ll show our authority over their fleet sir.”
“I thought we already had Jones… I doesn’t matter at least it gets me out of that bloody office, I hate desk work.”
“It’s gotta be done sir.”
“Yeah, whatever you say Jones.”

He was usually in a every good mood but no one knew he’d take this mission personally. The HMS Conroy approached the Kanami flagship they had sent from behind and swiftly pulled along side her. The crew of the Kanami vessel now saw the sheer size of the enormous Catholic Class Super Dreadnought. The Conroy dwarfed the Kanami vessel as a shadow of the Conroy passed over it. It was the closest a Kanami military man or woman had been to such a vessel of Stevid. The last time they saw a vessel of this size was when they were at a diplomatic crisis with Stevid. The SDN could been seen in International waters even from Kanami and now it’s true size was revealed.

“Open a channel to their Comms.” Said Hill in a more the hostile voice.
“Channel is open, they can hear you…”
“Kanami vessel, this is the HMS Conroy of the Royal Navy. You have entered Stevid waters under a flag of truce. We acknowledge the flag of truce and we’ve been ordered to escort you into Sunderland Harbour. Other escort vessels will accompany you the further we go into Stevid waters. Please remain in loose formation and do not deviate from your current course. Thank You.”

One of the last emergency workers, clearing out the dead bodies, hears a voice yelling faintly.

"What was that?" he asks his comrade.

She shrugs. "It came from further up, near what sounded like the cockpit area...but I don't see how anyone could have survived up there."

"It can't hurt to look," says the first emergency worker, picking up his medical kit. The pair head for the cockpit. As they do, the rope ladders attached to rocks around the area suddenly break off as a gust of wind blows.

"What's going on?" asks the second worker.

"I think the planes are leaving. The wind hit again."

"We're stranded..."

"No we're not. I'm sure they would never abandon us." They crawl through the shattered cockpit area, finally reaching the seats where the pilot lies prone. The second one speaks to him soothingly. "We're here to help you. The flight crashed, but we'll take you to safety. Our transports are outside. We come from Czardas..."

"Hello, he's blacked out again," interjects the first worker. "Let's carry him outside."

The pair pick up the injured man and shatter one of the cockpit windows, stepping out into the blinding snow and gale. A huge dark shape swoops down from above and a rope ladder falls from its underbelly; as the ladder sweeps by the pair grab onto it and climb for all they're worth.

Far below, the wind pushes the ladder off the edge of the precipice, but the end attached to the plane holds fast. They climb up into the transport and carefully set down the wounded man, to dress his wounds and keep him alive.

Far above, the plane rejoins the convoy as it heads towards Sonomi, bearing its burden of the injured.

IC:25 miles South East of the mainland- NIGHT

The Frightful was now beginning to struggle in the massive torrent of water smashing into its hull. The fleet too was struggling against the dark waters that were spilling all over the deck of the vessels. Only a few hours ago there was a scary spell where three men were swept over board on the HMS Duncannon, two survived the other was never found. Now the fleet had to put it’s personal feelings aside and continue the battle onwards towards the mainland, and it was proving difficult.

Rogers had just returned from a brief meeting with the senior officers. All had to agree that launching aircraft in this weather and conditions were next to impossible and it was at the moment the main objective of the fleet, to get helicopters into the air. But due to the weather the best they could do was get as close as they dared to the mainland.

HMS Johnson- Type-45 Destroyer

The Comms officer was just doing what he normally did. Running comms check on the vessel and maintain constant RADAR bleeping noises between the ships in the fleet. Suddenly but silently he looked up in alarm and just sat there, obviously listening to something. He then grabbed a note pad a scribbled down some numbers and names before tearing the paper from the pad.

“Sir I have a priority one distress call on channel one-one-two-five. It is a vessel in distress, it’s civilian vessel sir, probably a small motorboat or something similar. They say they are trying to ride out the storm but they can’t hold on for long.” He said this calmly and professionally across the control room.

The captain nodded his head and turned to the RADAR ops.

“RADAR, status. Can you see them?”
“Aye sir, it’s very faint but they are there. Uh… estimate around ten miles away…. Three knots is there speed. Shall we intercept?”

HMS Frightful

“Sir! I’ve got a message from the HMS Johnson. They report to have received a distress call from a civilian ship at around twenty-fives out at sea and about ten miles east of our position. They are requesting for orders to intercept the vessel and investigate.”

Rogers turned abruptly. This was what his was he was waiting for, this was why there were here, this was the beginning of the long test they were about to undertake and intended to see through to the end and accomplish.

“Yes… yes tell the Johnson she has permission to break formation and to search for the vessel.”

HMS Johnson

“Helm set a course bearing 85.2 degrees and intercept the vessel. Comms, tell them we’re on our way will ya. Tell them that they aren’t alone.”

“Aye sir!”

The vast land-scape once fertile and prospurs farm and parire land was now under water. On a isolated roof top, a Mother and her two children huddled together to keep warm. The young daughter (but older sister) nearly slipped.

"Caley," Said her mother Christina, "Please be careful honey."

Caley replied "Yes mama." Thunder crashed, and all three of them jumped

The son Sam spoke out.

"Mama, when are we going to get out? What if the water keeps rising?

Christina didn't know how to answer her son's question. All she could say is "Don't worry Sammy, soon a rescue boat will come out to check for us."
But she didn't know. After all the town was probably flooded too. A loud crack caught their attention, and suddenly the house brook from it's foundation, sending the roof adrift in the dark waters. Caley slipped from her mother.

"Caley!" Christina called out in horror, as she saw her young daughter dirift in the heavy current. Caley sturggled to stay afloat, she eventually hit a drifiting tree, and grabbed on. Then she saw a plank. She swam to it, and pulled her self out of the water. She lied their scared, cold, wet, and alone.

"Reports say water level reaching 15 feet in places... Czardaian planes meet with no response when attempting to fly princess out of Sonomi... Thousands left without homes..."

The boats shift course. They are passing through what's left of a town. On rooftops, people sit and wait for rescue. Boats break from the party and return, loaded with survivors.

People drifting on planks and trees hail the boats, who invariably come and pick them up. Meanwhile, one lead boat is approaching the rooftop where Christina and her son are waiting...

Thunder rumbles.

"That way?" The boat commander looks over past the huddled survivors in the boat, towards a distant house. Skeptically, he says, "Well, we can go look, if it'll satisfy you... but this'll be the last round. Then, we go back."

The boat takes off towards the house. On that roof, they can see what appears to be the figure of a woman with a small child near her. Still many meters away. The commander shakes his head. "You were right, let's go pick them up."

HMS Johnson

The comms officer was getting slightly frustrated now. For almost fifteen minute he had been hailing the small vessel with no response. The captain had noticed this as well and now approached the young officer.

“Report Lieutenant.”
“Sorry sir, they’re not responding to our hails.”
“Is it possible their radio has been knocked out?”
“Considering the circumstances sir it is quite possible. There is an awful lot of saltwater washing over them out there, the radio can only take so much punishment.”
“Okay keep on it, the thing may spark back to life.”

The captain then approached the RADAR ops. The young officer there was now straining his eyes at the screen trying to pick out the vessel out at sea among other dots on the screen. He shook his head in frustration.

“What is it ops?”
“It must be electromagnetic interference in the storm, the SAMPSON can see the target but everything is popping up in different places every three minutes or so.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well,” The officer pointed out a faint dot on the screen. “I am assuming this is the target. Its position was two degrees left of there, but it should be six degree to starboard. The direction of wind and waves have all been taken into account, it is the RADAR that is at fault here.”

The captain nodded his head. He lifted his hand to his mouth thoughtfully, obviously going over something in his head.

“Hmm… the people in the vessel are already in fright. I’d hate to increase that.”
“Sir?”
“Dear boy, give me a rough estimate on where the ship would be at the moment.”
“Given the wind direction, wave strength and direction, and RADAR tracking…. I’d say about fourteen degree to starboard sir.”
“Helm, stay on current course, do not turn to starboard.”

The helmsman nodded gladly. The man himself seemed to be struggling with the strength of the wind and waves enough as it is without having to steer into it.
“GUNNER!”
“Yes sir!”
“Turn the deck gun fourteen degrees to starboard- elevation thirteen degrees. Oh and have the cannon armed with flare shells- no live ammunition shells are to be used.”
“Aye sir, 14 starboard, elevation 13, flares armed. Aye sir… everything is ready.”
“Right then, officers of the watch, keep your eyes peeled over to starboard- scan the waves for a vessel.”

Three men and the captain grabbed their binoculars and held them to their eyes and started searching.

“Okay gunner… fire at will.”

A midst the wind and rain the cannon was positioned perfectly. A loud bang was heard, loud enough for people to hear for miles around, perhaps even from the coastline, if anyone was there. The barrel of the cannon recoiled as the shell flew into the air. Six seconds passed as a tight area of sea was lit up. Then another bang, quieter this time, but this time the whole of the area was lit up a pail yellow, including the HMS Johnson.

The captain smiled.

“Now, if they don’t see that I’ll eat my hat. They should see us as well.”
“I can imagine the smiles on their faces when they see us.” Said the officer of the watch. “Think about, you’re in a flimsy boat and about to die. What better sight could you expect to see than the sea lit up and the shining magnesium search light on board a ship of the Royal Navy, coming to rescue you?”
“Very poetic old boy, remember they will be smiling and happy. But unless we find them now, they won’t be rescued. I’m sure that ship has flares. If they do, now is the time to use them.”

The four men continued to search the sea, looking for the stranded family and their boat being tossed about on the high wet seas.

The lound bang caught Pauls attention. He had to check it out.

"Where are you going?" Molly asked him.

"Up, I think I heard something."

"Paul! Then I'm comming with you" She proceeded to put on her coat, but Paul stopped her. "Molly, your are in no condition right now. You and the baybe stay safe okay? Stay with Rosette and Josh."

He climbed up. He clung to the mast, looking hard into the darkness. He spotted what looked like small flashes, and a large silouet. Had helped arrived?

He went back down.

"I think there is a ship out there. Maybe they can help us."

He took the lantern down from it's hook, and went back up. He stood waving it, praying it would be visible. Lightning streaked down from the sky, and the dark and threatning waters rose up. Paul held desperatly to the mast, as the wave crashed down on him. He looked, the lantern was still light, just as bright. "Thank you Lord. Thank you." He muttered to himself. He continued to wave it about frantically, having to pause to brace him self. He said to him self "Come on, we're over here, please see us."

Bellow Molly clung to Rosette and Josh. She was still quite frightend. What if the husband whom she had adored for adored for 24 years of marriage would be washed away into the sea. She silently prayed to her self.

HMS Johnson

One of the officers of the watch continued searching the dark waves with the other two and the captain. He had been straining his eyes for a good four minutes trying to make out the small vessel that was bobbing up and down in the fierce storm. He scan the horizon once more looking for the slightest hint of a boat, a light anything.

The flare that was fired by the deck was now dimming quickly and it was becoming increasingly difficult to see anything beyond the light of the HMS Johnson.
But something flickered in one of the corners of the binoculars, a faint light? Or was he so obsessed on finding something out there that it was his imagination? Checked the area where he thought he saw something and checked again, and unless he was very much mistaken he saw the same light he had seen a few seconds ago. It was tiny, probably hand held, flickering in the wet darkness as the storm intensified.

“Gunner, rotate gun another seven degrees clockwise and fire one more flare.”

The deck rotated silently another seven degrees clockwise and fired another flare loudly into the night sky, lighting a tiny bit of the sea up before exploding in mid-air, coating the whole area for one mile in the pail yellow light once again.
This time, everyone searching saw the boat with a man clinging onto the mast and a small lantern in the bright light.

The captain’s own face lit up with joy and seized the opportunity. He didn’t have long to react to this, his window of reaction was slipping away from him fast.

“Helm- twenty-four degrees to starboard and engines at half speed.”
“Twenty-four- starboard sir.”

The great naval vessel banked into the crashing waves and began it’s approach towards the small boat that seemed to be really struggling in the dark waves.
The captain knew it was only a matter of time. Weather reports spoke of increased wind and rain in this area as the storm grew larger and bigger, and if that boat was struggling now it would surely sink cometh the next hour or so.

“Have both prow magnesium lights shine down on that boat, keep it lit up the whole time. Oh, I know it’s a serious business but sound the horn anyway. Let them know we are coming.” The captain then picked up radio speaker that linked to every deck on the ship including outside the ship. “All decks this the captain. Will sea rescue teams one and two report to starboard side with equipment to pick up survivors.”

Men from down below started rushing about grabbing equipment and ropes and allsorts and darted for the decks as all twenty men in rescue gear and equipment ran onto the wet deck in the harsh wind and rain. At moment the ship finished turning and was now speeding towards the distressed boat with magnesium light glaring through the night.

And with that, a loud blast emitted from the Johnson as she sounded her horn in reply to the man on the deck of the boat swinging his light while being tossed about by the waves.

OOC: Yo Kurona, does Sonomi city have a large wide river? You know like the River Hudson, the River Thames or the River Seven?

Paul continued waving. He saw the dark silouet turn twoards them.
"YES!" He worked his way down back bellow.

"They're comming! They're on their way."

Molly hugged Paul. "Thank God. What do we do now?"

Paul responded with "They are going to have to probably try and get us all from above. Put your coats on, and get ready to come up when I call for all of you. Rosette, I want you to help keep your mother steady. Josua, I want you with me."

"With you?" Molly said with concerne. "Paul I'm not so sure that I want Josh up there."

"Molly, I need some help. Joshua is ready to accept responsablitey for the familey. If I should slip.."

"Paul don't say things like that."

"If I should slip and fall, Josh can still guide the ship, and the rescueres to us."

“Steady helm, keep her steady!” The captain wiped the sweat off his brow as they approached the doomed vessel. “Helm takes us onto their portside to protect them from the waves.”

“Aye sir.”

The Type-45 destroyer was now extremely close to the small boat so that it dwarfed it to such an extent that it was amazing to see it still afloat. Two males were visible on the deck of the boat doing what they needed to do to keep the boat steady as the Johnson pulled alongside it.

The rescue teams were bustling about on the deck of the Johnson; seven men had grabbed some kind of rigging and were busy tying it to the side of the ship. Meanwhile, the others where sorting out what gear they needed and three others were hold long strong ropes in their hands.

“Ahoy there!! You lad!! Heads up grab this!!” Shouted a member of the rescue team at the top of his voice as he tossed a rope over the side of the Johnson towards the small boat that was about five metres away. “Tie it up lad! Tie it up!”
The shorter of the two males grabbed the rope tossed to him and tied it to his boat where he made a tight, secure knot worthy of a naval able seaman. As he did so, so did the rescue team member. He tossed two other ropes which they both tied to their separate ships as the waves crashed over both ships.
“Hold on there lad!! Get yer sea legs! Just hold on a bit more!!”

Both the Johnson and the small boat where now side by side and the rescue teams chucked over rigging net for the family to clamber up. Four rescue members climbed down the rigging and jumped down onto the boat and quickly found their sea legs. One of the crew rushed over to the shorter male, the oldest son by the looks of it. Another wave crashed over the boat completely soaking them both.

“Where’s ya father lady?”
The young man pointed to the helm where his father was steadying the boat. He approached the father while his crewmates secured the rigging to the small boat.
“Excuse me sir! There’s not a lot more you can do now! The order of evacuation is as following… Women first, then the youngest children leading up to oldest child, then finally you sir. We will stay on board to make sure you get on board.”

He didn’t wait for a reply from the father; he turned and looked through the open door that led into the small cabin inside. There was another child inside with their mother who looked as if with child. His eyes widened when he saw her.

“Ah shit! Lads! This is going one fun evacuation!” He turned back towards the family inside. “Come on love, it’s time to get you outta here. You’ll be safe.”

Everyone was on the deck of the small boat now clinging for their lives on the side nearest to the naval ship. There was an extremely bright blue flash of light. The flare had long since burned away. The huge fork of lightening streaked across the night sky in such a beautiful pattern that everyone just stood still and gazed at its beauty.
Then the thunderclap happened. Loud, deafeningly loud bang of thunder filled their freezing ears. They all jumped at how loud it was and how near it was. It couldn’t have been less than half a mile away.

“Shit!” cried someone on the deck. “You guys better hurry up! Because the next lightening strike might hit the yacht. You’ll be fried! Hurry up you don’t have much time!”

Two of the rescue team members took the lady by both arms and helped her onto the rigging.

“Sorry about this love, but the captain said it was to dangerous to launch the Merlin helicopter in this kind of weather. Up you go, we’ll be with you all the way, don’t worry. Your family will be on board as well soon. Just concentrate on your own personal safety for the time being.”

Joshua sucessfully made it across.

"okay Rosette, your next sweetheart." Paul said to her.

Rosette looked at the churning waters, she was nervouse.

"come on Joshua did it I can" She said to her self.

"Come on!" The crew men shouted to her. Rosette leaped, nearly falling into the water.

The two men grasped her tightly.

"Got her lad?"

"Got her. On three! One Two Three!"

They pulled her up to safty. Rosette ran in, threw off her coat, and hugged her mother.

Paul stood wating for the right moment. He leaped, making a smooth landing.

HMS Johnson
The first officer arrived in the medical bay where the family were together. Warm now and in fresh clothing provided to them by the ship's company and crew. They were being examined one by one by the medical officer.

The first officer approched them and saluted the father and bowed slightly to the rest of the family.
"Good evening sir! On behalf of her Magesty's Government and Royal Navy I welcome you and your family aboard the HMS Johnson. Your very lucky to be alive. Only five minutes ago your boat capsized, but I see you are all okay now. When the medical staff have looked you over i'll send some one to esscort you to the mess hall for some food and then to your quaters."

HMS Frightful-- One Hour later

“Roger Kanami vessel. The Johnson has arrive with the rest of the fleet and we’ve dropped anchor five miles south of the coast and are currently feeling the extreme force of these waves. Get here as quickly as possible and we’ll deploy our land forces together and we’ll set off together.

Cheerio! Oh and Good luck!”

The captain (C-F) returned the microphone to its place and quickly left the bridge for the conference room. The most senior officers from the HMS Frightful, Johnson, Devonshire, Langley, Kingsley, Jacob, Liverpool and Grafton, the major ships in the fleet, met him. Also present were a few of the senior officers from the hospital ships also in the fleet. The captain sat down and adjusted his seat accordingly.

“Gentleman you all know why you’re here. We need a plan of action on how to get our stuff onto Kurona soil. I’m open to suggestions people.”

No one spoke for a few seconds before the second officer of the Devonshire (2 Off-D) spoke up.

“Well from my experience both out at sea and on the ground I think we can rule out using transport craft to land the support by sea. Under the current conditions it would be most unwise to do so.”
The first office of the Jacob (1 Off-J) then cut in as well.
“I concur. Most unwise, but I’m a bit sceptical about an air transport. I bring all of you here to attention at the reports received from other nations attempting rescues across the nation. Reports of aircraft going down killing many if not all board the flight. I fear that this might happen to us if we attempt using aircraft to send and receive casualties and supplies.”

(C-F) “Yes but it is our only choice I’m afraid. Now I understand that the hospital ships are carrying four Chinook helicopters that have been provided by the RAF. We have at least three hospital ships so use all them. The HMS Frightful is carrying two Chinooks. We’ll use our ones to transport APCs and Royal Marines from to the coast.”

(1 Off-J) “Royal Marines? Well- they are suited to this kind of weather I guess. And no doubt we’ll come across some rebellious people. But what of the rest of the fleet and it’s aircraft?”

(C-F) “If and when the storm dies down a bit then we’ll launch more aircraft to receive the dead and wounded but also to send more supplies. Now when the Chinooks take off they’ll meet some strong weather but it’s only a four-mile trip, when they land it’ll be half a mile inland and on the cliff tops slightly to the east and will create a base for both Stevid and Kanami to use. It’ll be a big base able to receive people en mass. It’ll consist of a few small tents but the main buildings will be the Chinooks itself taking and receiving dead and injured.

(2 Off- D) “I like the idea but we’ve got lots of Chinooks at our disposable, perhaps putting three side for constant trips of re supplying the base and transferring the injured the actual Hospital ships.”

(C-F) “Yes. Good Idea. In fact since Chinooks are heavy lift choppers than they’ll be able to take the new Stevid Command vehicle. The Damocles command APC.

(1 Off- J) “That great big APC with the long satellite on the top. Sounds great, that thing could send messages to the moon. This will be a great try out. It could be able to use Stevid Military GPS scope and spy satellites to keep track of every rescue team belonging to Stevid and it’s allies taking part in the relief effort. Sounds good. Also I’d like to propose that one of the hospital ship come in close to the shore and shine a bit of light on the surrounding area of the base once it is set up”

(C-F) “That can be done old boy… it will be done. If that is all? Dismissed.”

Everybody in the room filed out and headed to the flight deck where their helicopters were parked. All that was left to do was to assemble the land parties and team and their vehicles, and of course awaiting the arrival of the allied Kanami relief fleet.

"We can't land," radios one pilot. "Too much water."

"Try dropping ladders," a suggestion crackles through.

From the underbellies of the transports, rope ladders descend towards the earth, followed by the orange-clad personnel who secure them at the bottom. Here, it is a window of the palace, as the ground is covered in three feet of water. One of the personnel drops down and squats to secure it to the windowsill, turning slightly to find a place to tie it down. As he does, he finds himself staring straight into the shocked faces of the Princess and her cabinet.

The man grins and motions for them to open the window as he pulls a megaphone from his side to shout above the howling wind. Meanwhile, around him, transports pull up soaking citizens of Sonomi, trapped while attempting to evacuate towards higher ground.

The outskirts of Sonomi

Lt. Arlen Syznar grimaces as he pushes through deep mud amid thunderous rain and lightning. Syznar looks around at the rest of the peacekeeping forces. Their blue and silver uniforms are soiled, they look tired, and the protective clothing to guard against rain and hail is taking a beating. Their long raincoats would be good for hiding weapons, but this looks like a case where they won't need any. Along with the peacekeeping troops are medics, engineers, scientists, and many more, some bearing the heavy equipment down towards Sonomi.

They are basically trying to find a road, any road that is not yet flooded, that leads into the city. Atop these high hills, with the lights of the city winking nearby, however, it seems highly unlikely that they will find such a thing.

Syznar chances a look down a long drop. The fields below are covered in water. Here or there a rooftop sticks out of the flooded area, like a tiny island, or hills jut out from the broad expanse. Somewhere in the distance he can see the moving searchlights of the other Czardaian boats, landed on the other side of the city. It will be a huge relief operation, one of the largest ever undertaken by Czardas or any other nation.

He sighs. Not pretty, he shakes his head, as the force makes its way down towards sea level, which has rapidly become flood level.

On the hills, Syznar shuts off his radio. "How helpful," he mutters. "As though we didn't already know that. Well, come on. Drop the boats."

Overhead, the aircraft search for a safe landing field. A flat hill outside Sonomi seems like the best location, and they are preparing to land the rest of their equipment there and set up shelters. OOC: I can't wait any longer for your post on your fleet arriving so i'm gonna post this anyway. But you casn post it later like saying one hour ago like? There is little mention of your forces so don't worry about it.

IC:

The Chinooks of the Hospital ships whirred to life on the decks of the ships. Wind and lashing rain coating the red and white ships. The lights on board were glaring in all directions, illuminating the whole fleet in a wash of white that was so bright that one would be able to pick every raindrop that fell from the skies.

One hour before Kanami had arrived on the scene, royal marine and medical officers were being bustled on the helicopters, along with APCs containing medical equipment, medics and beds/stretchers. All had been quickly brought together and put on board both on the hospital ships and the CVF carrier HMS Frightful.

It was unusually busy on the deck of the Frightful; it was easy to see that none of the flight crew really wanted to be in the pouring rain but they were grateful that the waves of the storm had died down a bit, there was the odd one that coated everyone on the deck but none as large those they had experienced a few hours ago.

The Chinooks took to the air along with their allies and all fourteen Stevidian Chinooks flew directly to the coastline with the small cliff side that was already dimly lit by the hospital ship’s powerful searchlights.

The trip took less than ten minutes and Chinook 002 was in the thick of the weather storm as the reached inland.
The flight commander strained his eyes for the Chinook that was a way in front of him. Surely they should have landed by now; they were supposed to put a flare up soon as they land for both Stevid and Kanami aircraft to see.

“They might not of made it… damn it! Weather forecast said it would be okay the fly for an hour at least.”
“There!” Yelled his co-pilot and pointed to his eleven o’clock. “Yes they’re okay!”
“Excellent. The flare is the centre point remember, the base is to be centred in a half-mile radius around that maker. Set us down thirty metres from it where ever you like.”

The great Chinook close in on the campsite that had just been set up by Chinook 001. It hovered in the air under glare of the temporary lights that had been assembled. The ground was extremely soft and wet but the grass was still green and fresh, soon it would just be a mud pile unless something was done. Outside Royal Marines were running about laying down treaded rubber walkways to make walking easier the medics meanwhile were in side the Chinook turning it into a make shift hospital with beds and medical supplies. The APCs had already been off loaded and the two of them were in a line ten metres from Chinook 001.
Chinook 002’s wheels set down upon the wet ground and sank down into the wet dirt. The slowing rotor blades were driving up water until they came to a complete stop.

The ramp downs slammed down into the ground and the two APCs rolled out and made their way over to the other two. The medics as well set about doing there bit, setting up beds and medical storage units to hold blood and medicine.
The Royal Engineers set about making large tents dotted around the campsite in the driving wind and rain as more Kanami and Stevid Helicopters reached the site and landed so unloading could begin. The Royal Engineers quickly built a command tent with a flagpole erected high up above the with the large flag of Stevid flying in the wind. Inside the tent was all the communication equipment. Powerful stuff, for in side the great tent was the new Stevid command APC, the Damocles Comms APC. Able to keep track of every single search party sent out by anyone in Kurona and keep an open comm. Link with them. Able to keep an open comm. Link with Stevid and the fleet it had sent, Kanami and her vessels and aircraft, Kurona (if they had anyone left still broadcasting orders to men on the ground) and Czardas air force and fleets that they had sent. It had a direct up-link to Stevid military satellites and civilian GPS and weather satellites in orbit of Earth, enabling it to keep track of everything in the local or wider area. It was one of the best mobile communication vehicles in the world and was an essential part of this operation. It was to be the centre part for this whole joint operation between the participating nations and could (given the amount of staff) co-ordinate the entire operation if need be.

This amazing piece of equipment was already up and running since Chinook 001 landed and was already directing the in coming aircraft that were approaching. Soon would come the time to set off for the capital in search of survivors.

“Okay then. Roger Thornhill? Got it… okay then bring him in here outta the wind and rain.”

Roger Thornhill: It's no problem. The Yasashii took on some water in one controll booth, short circuting most of the equipment. We had to stall to fix it. The Yasashii is on it's way to rendezvous with us.

He marvelled at the tank.

Roger: My oh my. you guys have some serious weponry. I'm glad the dispute is over. Looks like this will be very satasfactory, for getting through rubble and other debrie. Well as soon as Garrison gets here, he'll be wanting to see you guys. For now I'm going to go take care of the pilots.

Sgt. Moore: Very well.

Roger Saluted Moore out respect, and left.

Thomas replied "Mi-lady, I understand, but it's not safe in here. You could become trapped by flood waters, taken hostage, many things. If you stay things will be bad."

Tomoyo looked hestantly. "Very well." She walked to the lobby. "Ladies and Gentalmen, your attention please. At the time being we have been asked to evacuate. Now I want you all to proceed to the roof tops right now, take only what you can carry." The people scrambled to the roof tops.

[ooc:] As a general pointer, try not to RP others' characters. Not that I mind that much.

[ic:]

As the people climb to the roof, the transport planes descend, picking them and their belongings up. More of the orange-clad personnel, despite the wind, help everyone into the planes, which subsequently take off once more into the sky. All over Sonomi, citizens are being airlifted to camps built on higher ground, shielded against the storm.

One of the airports on higher ground outside Sonomi, though partially flooded, has been converted into a temporary refugee center. Medics and personnel bustle everywhere, helping the injured, comforting the frightened, trying to keep everyone satisfied while satisfying nobody. The planes are beginning to run out of fuel as they continually leave the airport to airlift more people out of Sonomi. Soon this camp alone contains over 50,000 people. More camps on other hills house even more.

The plan is to airlift Tomoyo and the government officials to the various camps to offer solace to the cold, starving citizens, many having little time to gather their belongings, with little privacy. The planes carrying them now begin to approach one of the ramshackle camps, where thousands of refugees from the flooded city look up hopefully at the whirring planes and helicopters.

Meanwhile, Czardaian shock troops patrol the streets of Sonomi in boats, preventing looting by distributing food and other necessary items for free to the people trapped inside, or even helping them out of the city if possible. Slowly but surely, the situation is being brought under control.

As Thornhill walked outside into the rain, Davidson turned around back into the command APC where his senior officers were.

“It seems as if everything is in place sir, we’re ready for the off any time you say so.” Said one of them in a very confident voice.

“Yes, well not yet,” Davidson replied. “We’ll wait for that chap Thornhill mentioned to arrive before we set off. But in the mean time we need to sort out a plan of action for when we do set off.”

He walked over to the large tactical screen on the other side of the APC and pressed a few buttons. The screen then displayed the forward movement predicted by the computer when they set off.

“Gentlemen what you see here is the pre-briefed tactical plan I set up while on board the HMS Frightful. As you can see, the APCs of Stevid and Kanami, if they’ve brought any along, will form a long line across the plains we’ll have to travel over.
They will hold medical teams and a small Demi-squad of Royal Marines and Royal Engineers. They will be the sorts of scouts sweeping ahead of the main force of APCs.”

On the bright green screen four red dots were moving forward, simulating the movement that would be taken by the forward scouts.
The main force was represented by lots of other red and blue dots (Red being Stevid and Blue being Kanami) following up behind.

“The main force will eventually spilt up and fork off into small settlement such as towns and villages. We have reports of major flooding in the capital some have the royal Engineers to shove some large inflatable rafts in some of the APCs.
Now we have to rely on the Damocles to provide GPS tracking and terrain assessment and quick situation analysis to helps us move forward quickly because the many reports we’ve had of aircraft going down in this storm is not comforting at all to the HMS Frightful, she is reluctant to send any aircraft up to search the local and regional area.”

“So we push forward quickly in an attempt to get there as quickly as possible? Fine by me, but it is extremely possible that rivers have burst their banks and fields and road have disappeared under water. What if we come across that?”

“Firstly, the Damocles will have already searched the area looking for that kind of problem, it will detect the rise of water in the area and the amount of rain falling and make a calculated guess on how deep it is and how quickly the water is rising. From there it will do a situation analysis and calculate whether it is safe to traverse the water. Secondly, if it sees that it is unsafe it will send an automated warning to the front line of APCs and the drivers will make a course correction.”

“To where?”

“The Damocles will also, while it is doing the analysis, will simultaneously look for another direct route and will also look over that route and do everything I’ve already mentioned again to see if the route is safe as well, if it isn’t then the process repeats itself. It can calculate over ten routes at exactly the same time and then choose the safest and quickest one to get to the desired destination.

Of course the driver might not want to accept the advice given to them so it is easily override able.”

One of the men whistled. “Uh… well… err…. That’s one hell of a machine. So that thing is going to get us trough to the capital then?”

“It will when the man from Kanami arrives. Until then, then Damocles is doing what I just said right now… saves time to think ahead you see.

We’ll wait for him to get here before we move off. I don’t want to leave them behind again. This terrain is as alien to them as it is to us.”

Navou City, 3 Miles from Task Force

The troops of Kurona walked into the deserted city. Mostly dry but some of it was flooded up to the ankles.

Prv. James Harrison: "This place seems abandond."

Private Yukito Mashimo responded "don't let your guard down. There are likely looters, and disgrunted people all over the place."

gun shots rang out. The mend dodge behind anything. "AMBUSH!"

"Take the left side, left side!" Said Capt. Joseph Akito.

Two men of the Kurona side shot down two shooters. "Hold it!" the Capt. Shouted.

Several of men walked up, guns poised. They saw more than just the gunmen, they also saw some innocent bystandereds. A woman and her child.

the Capt, turned to the two Soldiers that shot the assalients "You stupid SOB, you shot two innocent people! " He continued "Let's move out!"

The General turned round with a start and walked briskly over to the new arrival of the Kanami General. He smiled at him and saluted properly without shivering in the cold weather.

“Good morning sir! I’m General Davidson of the Stevid Army sent in to spearhead this relief operation. Forgive the Navy for rushing a head with things but you’ve experienced yourself the worsening weather.”

He paused and shook the General’s hand before gesturing him towards the Damocles. They both walked inside the command APC were the most senior men where now gathered, observing the green tactic screen and debating amongst themselves about the tactics. Davidson explained the situation and what the vehicle did once more to General Garrison.

“Now, you all know what this thing does, how it works, and how it will help you complete your mission and get to the capital. Once you arrive there you will split up in groups as you see fit and scour the city by APC or by boat depending on conditions when you arrive.
“On your way some of you will come across small settlements and villages. I remind you that it is a maximum of two APCs per settlement our objective is the capital. Also, the Royal Marines many of you will be travelling with will be armed with SA-80 mkII’s, grenades, Sniper rifles, the reason for this is that there are suspected rebellious factions and looters just trying to stay alive. They may be brief exchanges of fire; you are to order return fire if you feel the lives of your men are in danger. You will be flying the Stevid, or in other cases, the Kanami flag and the Red Cross flag as a sign of truce. That in itself may call for a counter attack, but if you can, only arrest them because they are only trying to save themselves. Don’t kill unless you have to.”

Everyone nodded in reply.

“Get to your APCs. Gather your men and supplies. Get into formation. Get out onto the open fields and roads. Get to that capital. We got people to save!”

A mere thirty minutes later, APCs belonging to the Red Cross, Kanami and Stevid were driving, aided by the Damocles, across the soaking wet, wind swept fields of Kurona towards the capital Sonomi.

Ryan: Stop!

The driver obeyed. Ryan got out, and saw the young girl, blind folded and gaged, left for dead. He nelt down to feel. He breathed a huge sigh of relife when he felt a pulse. "MEDIC!" He called.

He walks out of the room and shuts the door.

"What is it dear?"

"I'm troubled by the news in Kurona. I want to go help. Actually go there and help."

"Why, the charties you are doing here are working fine, there is no reason you need to go there."

Mikaux sighs and says "I can see there is no changing your mind." She walks to the window.

"The seas get pretty rough..."

"I can handle them."

"Please let me finish-The seas get pretty rough. I'll arange for a plane to take you."

She jumps off the bed and hugs her. "Thank you mother. Mother, another thing. I don't want any body guards. I want to sign up as a voulenteer, not as a princess. "

"All right. But you have to be extra careful."

"I will."

New Port, 4 Miles South East of Sonomi 10 Days Earlier

The weather her, has been stormy for a while. gushing winds, heavy rains, lots of thunder and lightning.

In a smalll house, our young ELANORE, keeps busy, making her self tea. She's all alone, with no one else in the house. A knock at her door startles her. She opens it, her neigbor stands, drenched.

"Hi Ellie" He said to her "Listen, the weather is pretty bad, I would be carful if I we're you."

"I'll be okay. Don't worry."

"Becareful." He responded to her.

Elanore closed the door. The wind was picking up. "It's really bad out there." She said to her self. The wind picked up even more, the whole house shook. Elanore grasped to the wall. Two of her window's broke out, folowed by the whole wall. she grasped for dear life, as the giant funnle outside, approached. Now she was floating, still haning on, slowly her fingers began to lose grip, and her fingernails we're pulling up splinters, from the wood wall. Suddenly she was pulled away, and tossed into the air.

"I don't rember much about when I was in the air. I woke up on the ground, a few hours later."

Elanore wakes up, badly injured, and dazed. She's in an open field, far away from her home. She struggles to get up, and limps. She trips over her neighbors body, the man who had warned her that the weather was getting worse. She tried to scream but found she couldn't, alhtough she was horrorfied. She limped on to the dirt road, and collapsed.

I just Lied there, in pain. I didn't know if I was going to die or not.

A wagon full of other injured people, moves along side Elanore, almost missing her. She tries to call out but can't find the strength or voice. an injured man in the back of the cart, spots Elanore crawling.

"STOP! There's someone over there."

The wagon stops, the driver of it hopps of, and pick Elanore up, and sets her down gently in the wagon. "easy there. You'll be okay, just gotta bandage you up."

"It took us almost four days to get up here. By that time,I had lost a lot of blood."

Elanore is rushed in on a stretcher. People are shouting around orders, and demands.

The doctor shouts out "Blood type"

"Unknown," the nurse replies.

"give me some O-"

The nurses handed him the blood, and he completed the IV.

"This girl is lucky to be alive."

"I woke up many hours later. I was told my surving was very lucky, and that the transfusion saved me. If I had been even 5 minutes later thatn I was, I likley would have died."

Rayn: Elanore, do you mind if I write about you, for the newpapers.

Elanore: I suppose so. I don't think it's really a hard hitting issue.

Ryan: I'm more intrested in the person behind the story, and what it might mean to others. Not so much if it'll sell. Fortunatley I have a wonderful editor who will probably put this front page. If you don't mind.

Elanore: No, no I don't. I guess I like the fact that people would care about me. I'm just like the many other survivors of that tornado, or the flood survivors.

Ryan left, promissing he would visit again. Later that night, he sat typing the story in his quarters. (Snippets of the article)

However despite his thanking, he's also been criticizing, for thoes who turned their backs on the nation in need. People who have had extreem survivals are happy to be alive and safe, with caring people. Several camps have been set up around the nation to keep people out of the harsh weather.
