"...welcome back to 'Block and Tackle' with me, Trey Pickworth. Now, after a Football World Cup debacle, an un-inspiring Football Under-21 World Cup campaign and a hangover from our last Cherry Cup of Ice Hockey, Starblaydia take to the sporting arena again, this time in the Rugby World Cup.

"Starblaydia (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Starblaydia_Rugby_Union_Team) are one of the better Rugby nations in the world, having finished 4th and 3rd respectively at the last two World Cups and are perhaps joint-favourites for this tournament with hosts Aust, who finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the last two Cups - bit of a rivalry there, I think you'll agree.

"The Finallists of both the last two Cups - Cockbill Street (twice), Dark Teutonia and East Lithuania - have not sent teams to this competition so Starblaydia and Aust - thankfully drawn in different halves of the Cup - could perhaps meet in the Final itself to decide the real Kings of Rugby, the decider in a best-out-of three. But for now, here's the full Cup rundown:"

Group 1
Liverpool England
Locke Harbour Blues
Michael Sticklandttttt
Harlesburg
Normanism

"Association Football World Champions Liverpool England will be hoping to take a surprising double in international competition by holding a Football trophy in two different codes. Harlesburg may bring their Gridiron skills to the field too, but otherwise there's not much chance of another team getting a look-in."

Group 2
Starblaydia
Tonissia
Kaze Progressa
Platypus
Spectacular Stefanski Sporks

"Starblaydia are the obvious-favourites for Group Two, though the second spot will probably be fought out between Kaze Progressa and Tonissia, two nations that Starblaydia have met in a variety of competitions before. It will be time for Platypus, however, to pay their bills."

Group 3
Aust
Vilita & Turori rugby Eel-Cat Things
Aztec Kingdom
Adrasuvare
Muesilania

"Hosts Aust are the obvious-favourites for this Group, though their main challenge will be from the nation of Vilita and it's colony Turori, who have sent a joint team in the Eel-Cat Things. Expect them to be second."

Group 4
Milchama
Krytenia
Homieville
[NS]BlueTiger
Artitsa

"As for Group Four, we can only suggest that Krytenia have the best sporting pedigree, though will have to enter Rugby Mode for this - perhaps some practice in the AR machines is called for. Michama or Homieville may get through this Group and provide a sting-in-the-tail for the knockout stages, though."

"And now, to Ice Hockey and the Rayzors' attempt to defend their crown..."

Hi, I'm Dan Hypkiss in the Aust City Stadium, and would you listen to that noise! Over 120,000 screaming Austians are packed into the final of what has been the most exciting season of rugby for a while.

The Aust City Tigers take on the the Tanka Lions taday, and with 1 point seperating the teams at the top of the table, it's a big day for both clubs. Will the Tigers regain the trophy or will the newcomers, the lions, recently promoted from the 2nd devision steal the show?

And with the end of the domestic season approching, we look now to the international scene as the Rugby world Cup approches. Here on ABC Rugby Sports, Austs only 100% rugby channel, where looking forward to the first game of the championship which kick off here with the Locke Harbour Blues vs Michael Sticklandttttt. I'm sure to say it will be a great day.

Even the Emporer will be in attendence and with the day predicted to be a scorcher, around -4 degrees, the stadium should be full. However it will be a full week until the Austian team takes to the feld. After the match we'll have a rundown on the key Austian players.

.....And that was a great win for the Tigers, in a nailbiting finish they scored a last minuate drop-goal to sacure the tital, and as you can see the fans are on the pitch and are mobbing the players as they prerade old big ears around the stadium.

In latest news, Austian coach John wells has announced Austs first XV, which consists of:

1)Dan Stockdale,
2)Chris Ripley,
3)Rys davis,
4)Stephen Cuthbert,
5)Karl Finlayson,
6)Gregor Robertson,
7)James Perch
8)Tom Corkell (c)

9) Chris Howick
10) Harry Rushmore

11) Jonny Moore
12) Jason Write
13)James Austin
14) Liam Ray
15) Joel Gill

A interesting line up and with analysis of this event here is Ray Charles:

Thanks Dan, and whatv a interesting squad it is that Austin has entered:

1)Dan Stockdale,
2)Chris Ripley,
3)Rys davis,

A strong front row here, Daniel Stockdale is a big lad, as is rys ad the Austian pack will be strong, Chris is also the best loose hooker in asut, but I still have some problems with his throwing and would have prefered Butch Whitham to bne given the nod, still a strong front row.

4)Stephen Cuthbert,
5)Karl Finlayson,

To big locks here, the big ginger scotsman and the giant should sauce most line out ball, and be deadly at set peices. They can have huge impacts upon the oppersition with there charges. Handling and fittness after a loing season will be a problem though.

6)Gregor Robertson,
7)James Perch
8)Tom Corkell (c)

The two flankers know each other from there time at Bambinio Forest and there both small 'Neil Back' style players. Hopefully they'll ensure a steady suply of oppersition ball and with Captain Corkell ready for the smash then hopefully Aust will be able to use the ball.

9) Chris Howick
10) Harry Rushmore

A strong half back combination, both are instictive players which can be a problem, especially if your on the back foot. Still with a strong pack this must be one of the best attacking combinations in world rugby.

11) Jonny Moore
12) Jason Write
13)James Austin
14) Liam Ray
15) Joel Gill

And a strong back line, quick and young, the Austian backs are inexperienced but will be a handful. Everyone knows what Austin can do, and Liam Rays speed will be deady for oppersition defences to face.

And now back to the studio

Thanks Ray...

The Progressan team can be seen here. (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Kaze_Progressa_RWC4_team).

Will it be good enough? 'Frankly, nobody knows. But we've got to try... Starblaydia will expect to top this group but beyond that it's very open,' said manager Quaza Maralaro when interviewed by Progressan paper the Daily Kangaroo.

Fayu Raulinka's kicking and Inato Karvek's pace are seen as the main threats in the back line, while the forwards are generally seen as possessing a physical presence but with relatively little finesse. Some would say that's fine, others would beg to differ. Most would simply wait to see whether the former compensates for the latter, and they'll find out when the team takes the field - starting with an opening match against Tonissia, who were also the Progressans' first opponents in the ongoing NS Bowl. That time, Tonissia won, but will that be repeated?

Falcons Line Up Set for Rugby World Cup

An interesting lineup has been drawn up and some shocking developments in World Cup Rugby

The line up for Empire of Normanism has been set.

1. Brad Thorn
2. Stephen Srubas
3. Daniel Braid
4. Kees Meeuws
5. Doug Howlett
6. Jimmy Tulip
7. Jerry Collins
8. Lars Fredrickson
9. Ryan Norman
10. Kyle Norman
11. Samuel Allison
12. Seth King
13. Jack O'Connell
14. Daniel Bergin
15. Mils Muliaina

Alternates:
Bradley Bergin
Aaron Business
Mike Fox
Phil Templar
Ryan Radio

Out of tournament:
Bobby Wilson

In a couple of suprising moves Coach Norman has hope to increase his sides chances in the match against Harlesburg. Srubas has been moved up to Hooker in the hope of taking advantage of a smaller Harlesburg back line.
In a different shocking development, Bobby Wilson has been kicked off the team after being indicted for his alleged involvement in International Organized Crime and weapons smuggling. The Falcons will surely miss this hard nosed, athletic player.
His spot in the lineup has been taken by fan favorite Jack O'Connell. Aaron Business has been added to the team. "It feels good to make the team and I hope to really prove myself to the team, the country, the fans and most importantly Coach Norman," said Business in the press conference held earlier today.
"The team has had some great practices leading up to the Cup and we are healthy. I think we have proven ourselves on the international stage and have really earned this chance. I am looking forward to a very successful tournament," replied Coach Norman when asked by the Austian press about his teams first appearance in the Rugby World Cup.

Wild Egg Chase

Well, it's time to switch from the round ball to the ovoid, as the Krytenian national rugby team launch an assault on the fourth Rugby World Cup in Aust. The team, nicknamed the Crew (after the Krytenian Rugby Union acronym, KRU), arrived in the host nation last night, and will take their first training session tomorrow. Team manager Colin Forestu claimed to be "quietly confident" of the Crew's chances in their first match as they take on Homieville.

Anticipation is builiding in Aust with the first day of the cuompetion just 2 days away. All the venues are sold out, and with most seating at least 50,000 over a million people will watch the first games.

Meanwhile the Austian squad has been granted speicial permission to train in the grounds of the Imperial Palaces, thus avoiding the weather outside. Other teams have not been so lucky and have been told they can train on outdoor parks. With the average temperature in Aust around -19 degrees, this is sure t cause contraversy.

"Ah'm nae surprised, laddie," says Dagnir Tumunzahar, Starblaydia's Hooker and brother of the current best striker for Starblaydia's Football team, Zhorin, "nae surprised at all aboot t'Austians makin us train oot in the cold. Look:"

Dagnir attempts to throw a Lineout ball to the waiting players on the pitch, though the ball fails to leave his hands, stuck to them by frozen sweat.

"Ye ken, laddie? Aye, ye ken."

Looking around the public park that has been given over to the training useage of the Starblaydi Rugby Union Team, avoiding the dog poo and the 'Keep off the Grass' signs, we can see a small snowman. It looks like the players have got together for a team-building excercise and made a very life-like snowman that stands about four feet high.

That is, of course, until the snowman moves. A small hand sticks out of one side, clad in black fingerless glove. Pink fingers grasp at the air and the snowman collapses as out of it falls a half-Human, half-Halfling player. Starblaydia's Scrum-Half, Binky O'Brady, opens his mouth.

"S-s-s-s-so... c-c-c-c-cold-d," he manages before falling in a heap on the ground.

"Medi-ic!" Rano Calamari yells. Just a day in the life of a rugby player.

IC: Player Release Storm

Just days before the first games of RWC 4 kick offr a storm has erupted over when players will be released to join the national team. Aust Tigers, the recent winners of the Premire League have decided that they will not release there players for international dut.

"We don't see why our players, that have just completed a long season, should have to nterupt there rest period to play for Aust." Said Tigers coach, Dean Richards.

The Progressans arrived in icy Aust wondering how a country can exist in this climate, but prepared to battle away.

'It's the same for everyone, and I'm sure the event organisers will account for the conditions,' said manager Quaza Maralaro.

When told that Aust were training in the Imperial Palace, he seemed calmer than most, claiming 'it's just a psychological trick'. Fly-half Fayu Raulinka admitted the conditions were a shock, but 'we just want to play some rugby'.

[OOC: surely stadia in this climate would be covered, climate-controlled domes? Playing in -20C temperatures is probably almost impossible, frozen hands would let every other pass slip.]

1) Fitness; Every individual was in the top 24 in the majority of the tests regarding speed, fitness, and endurance.

2) Experience; Most if not all of these players has at least 10 years of experience playing Rugby, and at least 5 of which in provincial representative matches. 90% of the team has played International Test Matches, while the remaining 10% has played National.

3) Strength/Speed; Much of the team excels in speed and strength. They are the pinacle of these aspects in their respective teams, and thus why they were selected to train together.

4) Brotherhood; This team has actually been practicing together for more than two years. They have played in international matches dozens of times together, but none as a TEST in the two years.

Though Aust had to drop out of the hosting before the Tournament [RWC2] began, Starblaydia, who had developed a simple scorinator, took up the hosting duty.

The mail system is well especially when the normal daytime high is at - 30 degrees Centigrade in the main competition venues as well as the hotel's exterior... I guess the "snow angels" are known for being great in the cold and wind by their experiences and this World Cup Should be no different...

Conditions had warmed up somewhat in Aust in the last few days, to the point where temperatures crept above freezing for a while. But the layer of warm air that stood over parts of Aust combined with heavy cloud cover and persistent freezing rain to produce a highly damaging ice storm.

Large parts of Aust were left without power, as numerous pylons collapsed under the weight of the ice and many more power lines broke. There was also some limited damage to some of the domed stadia planned for the Rugby World Cup, but these were unusable without power anyway - for the lights and heating would not work, leaving the stadia as no more than dark and icy cauldrons.

The infrastructure was clearly going to take a long time to fix, and plans were immediately made to move the teams and the tournament to Starblaydia. With the ice cleared relatively quickly, the airports have reopened and all 20 teams are being moved to Starblaydia on planes owned by the country's two major airlines, the well-respected national airline Starblaydi Airlines and the budget carrier Purplair.

OOC: the idea of an ice storm matches well with the less-intense cold Aust mentioned in an earlier RP. This link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_storm#Freezing_rain_and_ice_storms) was used as a guide to the possible effects of ice storms (including the link within this page to the 1998 Ice Storm in Canada).

As was the case for RWC2, so it is the same now. Starblaydia have taken over the hosting duties at the very last moment due to what can only be described as 'inclement weather conditions' in Aust. Teams have been touching down at airports all over Starblaydia, in preparation for the Group Stage of Play.

In this stage, each team will play every other team in its group once, with the top-two teams moving on to the Quarter-Final Stage. In the knock-out phase, Extra Time will decide the winner if matches are drawn, with a Sudden-Death Drop-Goal 'Shootout' to decide the winner if scores are still level.

The Austian team had had a hard time of it, first they had just finished a hard season, then there homes where hit by deistating ice storms and now they where touching down in Starblyia for the second time.

They had all aged a bit and where no longer the young hopefuls that they had been 8 years ago, last time in Starblyia the average age of each player was 21, now it was 25. A few new faces had come in and a few odler ones had departed, but still the skill remained, as did the support of the 120,000 Austians expected to travell over and fill the grounds with the green star.

Artisagrad Globe - Artitsa's first win in the 4th Annual Rugby World Cup brought massive celebrations around the nation. Rugby being the biggest and primary sport of Artitsa generates an average of anywhere between $2 Billion to $5 Billion annually. The Super 28 of Artitsa is considered professional, and recently, flyhalf Kyle Robinson was signed to the Kamskgrad Kondors for $3.2 Million a year.

His kicking garnered Artitsa its first win against Blue Tiger, worthy opponents. The forwards scored a hardfought try from a meter out, as the Blue Tiger team put up a staunch defence. Blue Tiger responded with their own try. A very nice dummy switch from Kyle Robinson resulted in a pivot pass to Kevin Porter, whose sheer size and speed defeated the opposing Winger. But again Blue Tiger came back for another try; Kicking played a very important game, Robinson having missed a conversion, but kicking three penalties. Blue Tiger was not silent in their kicking game, having scored a cheeky drop goal for a quick three.

Doug Seed, the Artitsan coach gave a statement after the game, "Our boys played well, as they should be. I am, however, going to be stepping up practice as they seemed to be a bit sluggish in the backs. Blue Tiger proved to be exceptional players, we look forward to maybe playing them again."

Artitsa is now 1-0-0 for the RWC.
Kaze Progressa
12-10-2005, 14:42
Kaze Progressa made the perfect start to Rugby World Cup 4 with a 28-7 defeat of Tonissia.

The Progressans played into the wind in the first half, and were penned in their own 22 for much of the time thanks to some powerful kicking from the Tonissian fly-half. However, the Progressans kept their discipline and clung on without conceding a penalty, save for one near the halfway line which missed narrowly to the left with height to spare.

Eventually after 29 minutes the Tonissians scored a try, an up-and-under kick fumbled by Progressan full-back Huqi Jatuzo under pressure from two Tonissians, the inside-centre eventually touching down for the try which was duly converted.

But three minutes from half-time came what proved to be the turning point, as Progressan fly-half Fayu Raulinka charged down his opposite number's kick. The ball fell to right-wing Raq Bilamzo-Mua, who beat the full-back with a cheeky side-step to score a superb try near the corner. The conversion was inevitably missed by Raulinka owing to the unfavourable angle and wind, but the Progressans trailed only 7-5, and with the wind helping them in the second half they ran amok. Two tries from inside-centre Inona Gaiza, both converted by Raulinka, took the score to 19-7 within ten minutes, and Tonissia's discipline started to weaken thereafter - allowing Raulinka to help himself to three penalties in the final quarter of an hour, the last from only a yard inside the Tonissian half.

In other news, an 'Aimbot' was revealed in the centre of Kaza today to celebrate 1,500 international press releases from the Progressan media. OOC: 1500th post, and my status changed to 'Aimbot'. But that news item sounds funnier.

Muesilanian citizens are in a great celebration today. After the recent rebellion, this has been a serious morale booster. We caught up with team coach Tom Redrow earlier. He said that the team was extremely pleased with their performance, as was everybody involved.

They can truly be happy with their 16-13 win, with tries from Nick Walker and Des Jerevi, and penalties from Steve Hume today. This puts them at the top of the group, but with only one game played, we are not clear yet. It is simply too early to put us as a contender for the top-spot.

The coach has been in his position for only two years he has brought this team around, now seemingly capable of competing as a serious contender on the world stage. The players are not able to play in Muesilanian leagues for a couple of months due to the cup, the clubs do not seem to mind though. Matches this weekend will have three players missing from the capital team, the Monisica Jaguars. Their game this weekend is up against the full strength mid table team. They are the only team who seem to be slightly unhappy, but with their lead at the top of the tabel ever increasing, they can afford to lose a few games.

The team is really doing the national sport proud.

Homies Pay Penalty

THE Crew made their mark on the Rugby World Cup after a dull-as-dishwater game which included the grand total of zero tries.

Vligos grabbed a penalty in each half, Homieville got one back, and a 78th minute drop goal from Zennor sealed the points.

Blues lose in World Cup 4.

INTERNATIONAL - In a low scoring affair the Locke Harbour Blues from Locke Harbour South were defeated 11-7 in international rugby today. The Blues jumped out to an early lead when 8 man Owen Clarke rumbled in in the 15th minute for a try off a penalty. Art Schwarz was successful on the conversion and the score was 7-0 for the PopularFreedom side. The Blues were controlling most of the play when a blitzing Michael Sticklandttttt outside centre was able to cut in between a Sam Walley pass and intercept it, rumbling the other way for a score. Inside Centre Sam Walley did cut off his approach to the centre forcing the Sticklandttttt player to down it in the corner which made the conversion next to impossible. Prior to halftime Blues winger Kirk Vincent was called on a high tackle. The Sticklandttttt made no mistake with the penalty kick hitting it dead centre to make it 8-7 for Sticklandttttt at half.

In the second half the clouds opened up and it started to pour making the field extremely muddy which hindered much of the play for the remainder of the game. The game revolved into a game of knockons and dropped passes until in the 85th minute a Sticklandttttt player was able to hit a drop goal from 16 yards out to up the score to 11-7. The blues tried in vain to go for a last try however they were unsuccessful leaving the final score at 11-7.

Aust Win at the last
Aust 21-Muelisnia 17.

It was a bright day in Starblayia and the thousands of Austians who ahd made the trip over to Starblayia in the hope of seeing there team win the Rugby world Cup where not disappointed.

Aust seared into the lead within 5 minuates as a dummy switch move by centers James Austin and Johnny more opened up a large space on the wing. Flyhalf Rushmore saw the gap adn divivered a perfect crossfeild kick for Winger Johnny mroe to dive onto to give Aust the lead.

Then, staright from the kickoff a bollocking run from number 8 Tom Corkell broke through the Muesilania to set up Austin from a pop-pass. The Aust City Tigers player sped over the line carrying the oppersition fullback with him-unfortuntly Rushmore failed to convert both trys.

The Muesilania side forght back though and score two quick trys-both converted, and pulled themselves ahead level, at half time the score was 14-10 to Muesilania.

With the Austian fans chants echoing round the stadium Aust forght back with renewed vigor. The Kickers exchanged paniltys to bring the score to 17-16 to Muesilania as the hooter went.

But Aust refused to give in, and finally, after 8 minuates of stoppage time and 21 phases of Austian attack, a simple crash ball through the center was too much for the Muesilania defence to ahndle and Austin crashed over from 5 yards, taking three defenders with him.

Though the try was unconverted this didn't spoil the celebrations that where already taking place around the ground, Austian being carried on a lap of honour round the ground.

Artitsa

Artitsagrad Globe - A spectacular game between Milchama and the Artitsan Blizzard has our entire nation waving flags. The affair sparked off after two phases of forward play, finally thrown out to flyhalf; Kyle Robinson. Robinson proceeded to execute a beautiful dummy-switch then an actual switch back inside to Kyle Buckley. The move caught the opposing outside center flat footed, and Buckley's exceptional juke did little to help the beleaguered defender. The Milchama Flyhalf was unable to catch Buckley. The try was not converted by Robinson.

After several phases, The Blizzard found themselves knocking on Milchama's doorstep again, but the forwards would keep it for themselves this time. Tyler Robbins, tight-head prop, smashed the ball into the Milchama line from 4m out, touching it down just over the tryline. Kyle Robinson was easily capable of making the drop goal, having been placed right under the posts.

After the half, once again the blizzard charged down the field, lead by Kyle Robinson. However, the drive came to a halt at the 22, where Milchama began putting on a spectacular defence. Jesse Halonen, Scrumhalf, quickly realized that possession may soon be lost, used his opportunity to score a very cheeky drop goal from the twenty-two.

After 15 minutes of play, Milchama found themselves knocking on Artitsa's door. Dale Newstead suceeded in aiding the opposing team by late tackling the opposing flyhalf. The penalty kick by Milchama went through, and it was now 24 - 3 for Artitsa after several penalty kicks for themselves. The final try came from a deep kick by the Milchama Fullback, and recieved by Steve Orban, the Blizzard Fullback. In an absolutely spectacular run, Orban scored the try in the corner, with a grubber to beat the winger.

Artitsa is now 2-0.

Raq Bilamzo-Mua and Fayu Raulinka both scored two tries, and Raulinka also added four conversions and three penalties for a total of 27 points, the highest individual score so far in the tournament. The general consensus is that the Progressans are among the strongest teams in the tournament, having scored more points than anyone else on each matchday while giving up just 16 points in return, but fly-half Raulinka said 'nothing is certain yet,'.

'We're just playing well now, and for all we know we might fall apart when it really matters,' he added. 'But we've not met any of the real big guns, and the Starblaydia match will be the first real test.'

Milchama loses first rugby match

The Milchama Warriors lost their first rugby match today getting blown out by Artitsa 29-3. The Warriors one good spell of offense and the only thing we will report about came with just 15 minutes left to go in the game as Johnny Roseman came close to breaking thru the Blizzard lines and getting a try for the Warriors. Unluckily for him the Blizzard's Dale Newstead just got enough of Roseman to bring him down. Luckily he got a penalty out of it that he easily converted to give the Footballers their only points of the match. Captain Corey Battenpush said, "We were out rugbied today. Despite our practice the Artitsans new what they were doing much better than we did and they out smarted us with many of their plays."

The Milchamian squad had come to Starblaydia not expecting much as they all are Suicide Footballer or Aussie Rules Football players. 5 of the starters had not even played rugby before their exhibition match 2 weeks ago against Masquiall of Collonie. The fact that they scored today was, "A big victory for us because near the end we did much better. The entire second half we only gave up one try. If we can keep this improvement I'm sure by the end we could pull out one game." That was coach Marty Gilman the only person in Milchama who actually plays or played rugby. The Milchamians feel good about this first result.

The match against the Aztecs was way to close and the loss against an Muesilania side was just too much to bear for some of the coaching staff at this point in the tournament and one assistant was sacked after screaming at a player for coming out of the Interchange bench at the wrong time...

Now, Adrasuvare needs to revive their team quickly if they want to get all four points against the former host and tournament favorites Aust. The defence on the Adrasuvare side was fair against the Muesilanians and the Aztecs, but the main problem was that the line outs were not of a quality of a World Cup Side and the offence against the Aztecs was just horrid as well as the territory that Adrasuvare started the set of phases... The Blue Angels have tried to practice on everything insure that their trip to Starblaydia does not turn into a disaster...

Adrasuvare is tied for 1st in Group C with 1 win and 1 defeat (5 points based on 4-2-0 + BP System) to its account, but Aust has a match in hand...

As the two teams stepped out onto the field where they would battle for needed points. Muesilania's Fred Vianell was injured earlier in the week, but showed his face at the start. He showed his worth.

The game started with Rugby Eel-Cat Things taking the upper hand. Within minutes they had broken down the defence sending them off in the right direction. The conversion was made. There was no reply until the second half, which began 10-0, due to a drop goal from Rugby Eel-Cat Things.

Things were not looking good for Muesilania. Their kicker was out of the action due to a pulled muscle. This didn't stop them from sticking it to 10-6 with two drop goals. As the clock ticked into the sixties, things really started to happen. Excellent driving by the forwards and exceptional running by the backs earnt Muesilania a further 10 points, two tries without conversion. After one further quick try, and another missed kick, another 5 were added to the total. The game stood at 19-10.

Rugby Eel-Cat Things took control of the situation once again. A well earned try sticking the game at 21-15. One more try would do it. At 78 minutes Muesilania were stopped in their tracks ten metres out. The team battled and tried their best. Eventually they set-up Vianell to pummel through on the wing, taking ground and with one player on his legs over the tryline. It wasn't clear whether or not the try would count. After a few minutes, the crowd went mad, screaming at the tops of their voices. The try had been allowed.

Muesilania had a well earned victory, 26-15. It was a good game, exciting for both sets of fans. This time however, Muesilania had snatched it.

Offense awakens as Milchama wins

The Milchama Warriors won their first ever rugby match today defeating Blue Tiger 26-14. The Warriors who struggled in their first game scoring only 3 points llooked much more comfortable in today's match scoring 3 tries. Coach Marty Gilman said, "We won woo hoo! We can do this Milchama will be a rugby powerhouse."

The game started out well for the Warriors as Marian Luppers, the leading try scorer in the Milchama Suicide Footballer League, looked like a characteristic outside striker using his power and speed to push right through the defense and score. The try was then easily converted by Terry Cormack to make it 7-0 Milchama. The offensive push continued for the Warriors who seemed to be energized by their second half against Artitsa as Danny Limeron soon got fouled inside the 22. The penalty was again easily converted by Cormack to make it 10-0. The game looked to be a cruiser for the Warriors after Kenny Parks showed some creativity kicking a beautiful drop 30 minutes in. The Warriors looked poised to go into the break 13-0 up but then an offensive breakdown by Roseman turned over the ball and gave Blue-Tiger an oppurtunity that they took advantage of as the #8 got the ball wide before going right around Gilbert and scoring a wonderful try. It was then converted by the fly half so that Milchama only led 13-7 at halftime.

The second half saw the Warriors jump out quickly seemingly inspired by Gilbert's speech at halftime. This quick development led to some good passing and after one punishing long punishing run by Luppers the Warriors again saw themselves inside the opponents 22. This time Danny Limeron saw some room on the right and went thru that room only at the end to pass too Corey Battenpush who scored easily to extend the Milchamian lead. Unfortunately Cormack could not kick the ball in from the tough angle so the lead went to 18-7. The Warriors would extend their lead a little later as again another great run from Luppers saw the Warriors with good field position. A bad pass from Limeron led to a scrum which the Warriors won. Shortly after the scrum Roseman got fouled leading to a tough decision from Battenpush from about a 48 yard distance. Finally Battenpush agreed to allow Cormack to kick the ball in and he did with ease increasing the Warriors lead to 14. The lead was soon to be halved as poor tackling from Fennerborough allowed the Fly half to literally fly down the field to score. The Warriors scored their final try to minutes later on a blocked kick from Gilbert allowed Raveed Shulman to walk in for a try. Unfortunately Cormack missed the kick but the Warriors still won 26-14.

Furthermore, please do not think I am rushing anyone in the IC below post, just stating what my characters would state in light of the upcoming PopularFreedom Rugby League season (since it is the most popular sport and league in the nation).

IC: In light of the recent events where the organizers have put this competition on hold, the Locke Harbour Blues organization is curious as to approximately when it will restart if at all. We understand the current situation however in light of the PRL (PopularFreedom Rugby League) set to begin around March 1st, it is imperative that we are back in PopularFreedom by the end of January to begin preparing for this. Our organization is extremely intent on proving to the Locke Harbour Dragons (from North Locke Harbour - we are from South Locke Harbour) that we are the supreme Locke Harbour team and therefore without trying to rush organizers, and despite the awesome treatment from our hosts, it is necessary we either finish this World Cup or that we be notified of dates so we can decide upon when to return. Ugh I really dont care either way. This is the second time Aust has decided to host a RWC and then not been able to do it, and taking over a second time just hasnt held the appeal. Anyone who wants to take over, seriously, anyone using any scoring method they want is free to do so.
Would you shoot me or anyone else for using Jonah Lomu or Rugby 2002?
I remember you said you hate doing it that way.

Greetings,

FYI in regards to PopularFreedom (for fans, players, and tourists alike):

PopularFreedom (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/PopularFreedom) is located in the Heartland region southeast of Liverpool England, across the Nolan Sound (http://img35.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pflocation9pl.png).

The capital of Locke Harbour, located on the eastern side of the country is broken down into numerous cities making one large super city. Two of these smaller cities are Locke Harbour North and Locke Harbour South, proposed replacement homes to the RWC 4.

Games played in Locke Harbour North (http://img217.echo.cx/img217/5365/lhn1982city0ht.png)would be played at Champions Heaven stadium in the heart of the financial district of Locke Harbour North. It is located approximately 10 kilometres east of the international airport.

Games played in Locke Harbour South (http://img217.echo.cx/img217/3397/lhs1987downtown0sn.png), would be played at Locke Harbour Stadium which is around 10 kilometres south of the games played in Champions Heaven in Locke Harbour North. Furthermore Locke Harbour Stadium has direct access to a domestic airport.

Temperatures in Locke Harbour are currently reaching a high of 5-10 celcius (41-50F) in the day.

Both Locke Harbour Stadium and Champions Heaven are open air stadiums seating 68,000 people each.

I hope this information will be valuable assuming we are allowed to take over hosting duties of the RWC 4.

Sincerely, Prime Minister Bayda

Greetings,

Thank you for the vote of confidence, the tournament will restart on Wednesday Janaury 25, 2006 5pm Eastern Standard Time (-5 GMT).

Schedule and standings and Game locations will be updated shortly.

OOC: I plan on using a formula where those teams who RP, have rosters, and have won games already will get a slight bonus over other teams. Since my team is a team that has yet to win a game this should help to ensure that there is no change in the overall level of the current competition and that it is fair.

I look forward to seeing everyone in Locke Harbour, PopularFreedom in 2 days.

How I plan to score RWC 4. (If anyone has objections let me know and what you propose to replace my plan)

-I have assigned points based on previous history, RP posts in the current RWC thread, posting a roster or not, and current points for/against in the first 3 games thus far

is this okay?

For the record I also plan to keep the original scoring where a win earns 2 points, a tie earns 1, and no bonus points are given. I recognize this is not what is used at the true rugby world cup however this is what was used to start this tournament according to at least one previous post and therefore I will maintain it

And the Austian Bandwagon keeps on going!
Aust win 17-5.

A classic performance from Aust Rugby keapt the Austian bandwagon rolling. Aust have now won there last 3 matches, and sit proudly atop there group with 6 points and a game in hand.

Thew scoring was opened in the 3rd minuate as winger Liam Ray latched onto a cross feild kick from Rushmore. Aust had previouly turned the Artistians over from the kick off with flanker James Perch smashing there reciver into the ground.

Ray then skinned the Artistian fullback to touch down. Aust was on top and retained most of the possesion, playing total rugby and refusing to kick for terratory. When they got a penalty dead in front of the posts, however, they chose to kick and Rushmore slotted it.

The Artistians hit back with a good backs move that resulted in Winger Alex Gioia sliding in to score in the corner, the conversian sailed wide of the posts.

Aust refused to be demoralised and hit back with a try of there own, this time Austin making use of the Artistian blitz defence to slip past his marker and dive over from 5 yards and a good spell of prssure. That was it for the first half though.

Austin got his second soon after the break, Ray cutting through the oppersition defence after a long punt upfeild from their 10. Ray sliped through 4 tackles to make it to the five meter before being brough down, poping the ball up for Austin to score yet another converted try.

The Artisians managed to pull back a penilty late on but resoloute Austian defence keapt them out.

Artitsan's Move to the Finals!
An intense game between Homieville and Artitsa results in the now 3 and 1 Artitsans moving into the finals, where they will face Muesilania.

In yesterdays game, Artitsa opened up the scoring during the opening 10 minutes, as Kyle Robinson chipped the ball through the Homieville backs, allowing Cole Raccine to capitalize and score the try. The conversion by Buckley proved true.

Several minutes later, the homieville winger broke free of Chris Porter, brought down by Steve Orban at the tryline. Following play resulted in the Homieville lock punching it in for five. Their conversion was succesful as well. In the dying minutes of the first half, prop, Tyler Robbins made a spectacular run, sprinting to the outside, dodging a Homieville center, turning back inside. Another short run ended when Homieville Fullback came upto make the hit, at the twenty-two. Robbins give the Fullback a firm stiffarm, giving him time to pop the ball backwards to Alex Gioia, who ran it in for the try along the wing. The Conversion was unsuccessful.

The second half opened with a bang, and Artitsa scored on its first series. Kyle Robinson sifted through the Homieville backs, dropping his shoulder and bringing the inside center down with him, as the ball was dropped back once more to Steve Orban taking it on the Scissor. A long pass from Orban to Kameron Spraggon resulted in a try under the posts. The Conversion was hit home.

Several minutes later, Luke Raccine broke the line again on a short pop from the scrumhalf along the blindside. Luke, standing 6'6 and weighing about 265lbs, leveled the blindside wing, rushing in for the try. Buckley was once more successful on the conversion, bringing him to three of four for the day.

In the dying minutes of the game, Homieville launched a voracious attack, scoring two tries in rapid succession, but failing to convert either. Homieville launched one final attack on fulltime, along the Artitsan tryline. A droppie would be of no value here, a try and conversion would be needed. A rather large hit from Mike Loney knocked the ball loose, and Dale Fitzgerald jumped on the open ball. Artitsa now had advantage. The ball was spun out to Kyle Buckley, deep in his own try-zone. He Immiediatly punted it out of bounds past the 22, ending the game, 26 - 17.

Doug Seed, Coach had few words to say after the game. "The boys played hard, like they usually do. We saw Homieville make a determined effort, and we just broke down. That final stand on the try-line was exceptional though, and I'm very proud of them. I will however, be discussing defensive assignments with my wings and centers this week in preparation for our game against Muesilania."

BLUES DONE AS RUGBY WORLD CUP PLAYOFFS SET.
Harlesburg shows no mercy in crushing defeat.

Report by: Paul Givens
PFT News, Locke Harbour

It wasn't even close.
The Locke Harbour Blues had kept themselves alive yesterday with a 22-21 win over Liverpool, England to keep them within reach of a playoff spot, however against Harlesburg, the team they had to beat to make it into the playoffs, the Blues just flopped.

From the start you could tell that the Harlesburg team had come out to play. Despite the hometown advantage that the blues had, it was the Harlesburg team that fed off the crowd. Off the kickoff Harlesburg lock Christopher Danist caught the ball and set up a maul. The blues instantly were sucked in without realizing that though most of the Harlesburg forwards were joining the maul, a few were trailing off to the weak side. Moments later scrumhalf James Hargreaves ripped the ball and quickly passed it out to the Harlesburg flanker Micheal Frederickson. Frederickson quickly rushed by the maul and steamrolled Locke Harbour blindside winger Richard Anderson. With 8-man Thomas Page in support, Frederickson ran headlong towards Blues fullback Josh Meolo. Frederickson made no mistake by making Meolo commit and then popping a pass out to an onrushing Page who grabbed the ball and ran the rest of the way for an early 5-0 lead for the visitors, after Casey Piper missed the convert.

Locke Harbour fans, for the most part were silenced, save the occasional Locke Harbour Dragon fan who one could clearly hear heckling from the now near silent stadium.

That try seemed to confuse the Blues as on the ensuing kickoff the Harlesburg forwards caught the ball and set up a ruck. Again they were able to suck in the Blues until their scrumhalf, James Hargreaves quickly picked up the ball and ran with it past the Blues scrum. As he was about to be tackled by Blues fullback Meolo, he popped the ball to Harlesburg flyhalf Casey Piper who could easily run it in for the score and, with the convert, a 12-0 lead.

Harlesburg scored one more converted try at the 15 minute mark before the Blues were able to have any success at all. In the 36th minute the Blues had marched down to the Harlesburg 5 yard line, after a knock on by Piper. As soon as the ball was fed into the scrum the Blues pack pushed the Harlesburg squad back until Blues 8-man Bob Erickson was able to pick up the ball and down it to close the gap to 19-5 at the half.

In the 2nd half the Blues started off strong with outside centre Jason Uruguay breaking through the line and scoring in the 46th minute to bring the Blues even closer with the score now 19-10. That score however seemed to wake Harlesburg up as they scored 2 more converted tries, and dominated the game for basically the remainder of it.

As the final whistle blew the Locke Harbour South crowd booed without restraint their team while Harlesburg players celebrated their victory which clinched them the final playoff spot in Group 1.

A spectacular 24-22 victory over Starblaydia sealed top spot for the Progressans in their group in the Rugby World Cup and Harlesburg now await in the quarter-finals.

The Progressans stormed into a 14-point lead in the first half-hour, inside-centre Inona Gaiza picking up the pieces after a handling error from one of the Starblaydi forwards for the opening try on 18 minutes before setting up the second try twelve minutes later with a high kick that was picked up in the corner by Raq Bilamzo-Mua. Fayu Raulinka kicked two difficult conversions and followed that up two minutes later with a long-range penalty, and at that point it seemed unlikely that these kicks would prove as critical as they actually were.

But the Starblaydi side aren't defending champions for no reason, and they struck back in the last minute before half-time with their left-winger storming past the helpless Inato Karvek for a superb breakaway try, full-back Huqi Jatuzo merely forcing him right into the corner. That did prove critical though, as the conversion missed.

Another try for the Progressans came just five minutes into the second half, number-eight Quaza Tazaxinol pushing through a mass of bodies after incessant pressure near the try line.

The Starblaydi side looked out of it, but came back in sensational style with two tries in nine minutes, both scored after mistakes in the lineout from the Progressans. The second wasn't converted though, keeping the gap at seven points, and when the Progressans won a scrum in the last minute just inside their own 22 after a knock-on from the Starblaydi fly-half, it seemed over.

But the Starblaydi forwards responded by winning the scrum against the head, and somehow retained possession amidst a mass of tired, flying limbs; eventually the outside-centre was held back illegally by Progressan forward Rutaka Nafau, and a penalty try was awarded. However, the conversion flew inches wide of the post, and the full-time whistle immediately followed.

The Progressans had escaped. Starblaydia will now have to play undefeated Normanism in the quarter-final, a match that will precede the Progressan match in the Locke Harbour Stadium. All four matches will take place next Sunday with kickoff times staggered at two-hour intervals; the Progressans play the last match, kicking off at 5pm local time. The 11am and 3pm matches are taking place at the Champions Heaven Stadium.

And there through!
Aust into the quaters

Aust smashed there way into the quater finials for the 4th successive time last night with a 31-15 win over the Aztec Kingdom.

Aust opened the scoring early on with a psuhover try after a driving maul that went from the halfway line to the try line, scrum half Chris Howick ending up with his hand on the ball as the rampaging Austian forwards drove over. The try was uncoverted though as Rushmore missed his kick.

5 minuates later he made upfor it with a buitiful iterception after a spell of Aztec possionion. Running from own 22 he managed to outrun the chasing backs to touch down under the posts, duly converting his score.

A long spell of Aztec pressure followed which finished with a Aztec try, the Austian blitz defence being torn apart by a skillful backs move. On the stroke of half time though Aust restored there lead, Johnny Moore diving over in the corner. Rushmore missed the kick.

The Second half began badly for Aust with the Aztec kingdom catching and driving a lineout to get a pushover try, fortunly unconverted, but then the Austians hit back with 14 unanswered points from a incredable back division that literally tore the Aztec Kingom apart in 20 minuates of free scoring rugby. James Austin and Liam Ray crossing to score-Rushmore converting both kciks.

Late on the Aztec Kingdom got a 3 pointsabck but that proved immaterial as the Austian squad charged into the quater finials where they'll face Krytenia.

"Where not scared!"
Austian coach Rob Charlton last night issued a warning to all the remaining teams in RWC4, where not scared. The Austian coach claimed his young team where "ready for anything." and that, "Where going to crush anything that gets in our way."

This came on the back of a impressive 5 try thrashing of the Aztec Kingdom, and Austs progrssion to the enxt round with a unbeaten record. "This years our year!" Charlton said, "We've got skill power and creatvity, where going to win this tournment!"

When did we play?

IC: Artitsa never did play Aust thus far in the RWC4.

OOC: I think Aust just wrote a quick blurb on the scores from round robin day 4 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10298875&postcount=91) noting only the 1st half score and the wrong team by accident.

IC: I heard rumours that some hacker had breached a few of Aust national newspaper computers recently so I assume that must be the reason for the erroneous news report.

Aust win again, 27-7
Aust moved into the next round of the Rugby World Cup by beating Krytenia 27-6 at the Champions Heaven Stadium, PopularFreedom, today. Aust dominated from first to last and pulled off the result that every Austian expected.

They opened the scoring early on, Johnny moore sliding in the corner to score his 3rd try of the tournment which Rushmore duly converted. The Krytenians pulled level though with a well worked try midway through the half.

5 minuates later Aust pulled ahead once more with a 65 yard penilty by Rushmore, second later the fly-half scored again, this time breaking through the oppersitians line from kick off and scoring a breakaway try.

At the break Aust went in leading by 8 points, but the game still looked live as the impressive Krytenian pack dominated posession. Fortuntly for Aust they didn't have the cutting edge in the backs to provide the finsihing touches.

The game was still in the balence until there was 5 minautes to go. Heavy pressure had forced the Austians back to there own line when the Austian forwards pounced on a loose ball to get a turnover. As the oppersitian backs backpedled Rushmore sent up a high punt, which Liam Ray got onto. He powered trhough the opperstian center only to be tackled by the right wing 5 meters from the line, Austin was on the end of the pop up.

That inially sealed the game, though moore scored his second in injury time to record Austs 5th successive win in the tournment. They face Artistia for in the semi-finials.

FINIAL!!!!!!!!
Aust win through to go into the finial of the Rugby World Cup.

Aust triumphed in a close game last night to win a fine victory against Artitsa. The Austians started badly going 10-0 down within 20 minuates but rallied back to win 24-18.

The first signs of resitance to Artitian dominance came in the 23rd minuate when a strong forward pack pushed over from a lineout. Harry rushmore, the torunments top scorer, converted the chance. But poor defending lead to another oppersitian try after 3 tackles where missed.

At half time Aust where 7-15 down, and many Austian wodnered if Austs curse in this competion (4 semi-finial losses) would continue. But fortuntly Aust came out a rejuvinated side.

James Austin, touched down straight from kickoff, capitialising on poor Artitian catching, to take the lead. Another oppersitian penalty regained the lead, but within 5 minuates the game was decided as bother Austian wings scored.

So Aust are through to the finial and the entire nation will be up and watching ABC Sport tos ee tyhe conclusia of this epic.

James Austin: 30 points

Starblaydia lose in Semi-Finals for third time in a row

For the third time in as many Cups, Starblaydia will contest the Third-Place Play-Off in the Rugby World Cup.

At least they're consistent. Both times previously, Starblaydia have met Aust in the play-off, losing and winning a game each. Now, however, Aust have made it to the Final in PopularFreedom, while Starblaydia are stuck playing Artitsa in the consolation match.

But we're one of the best four nations in the world, surely? Surely?!

Aust Win The Rugby World Cup

Aust ended 16 years of heartbreak last night by lifting the rugby World Cup for the first time. Captain Tom Cokell weapt tears of joy as the lifted the golded trophy above his head to the delight of the 40,000 Austians that ahd made the trip and the billions that wtached at home.

Aust entered the tournment as favortes and finally manage to clinch the trophy with a infatic 35-20 win. Liam Ray scored the first Austian try early into the half, and Aust didn't look back after James Austin smashed through 3 defenders to score Austs second.

With Harry Rushmore in fine kicking form Aust where 14-0 up and coasting, Kaze Progressa managed to pull a penilty back before harry Rushmore-Austs Hero of the tournment-scored to take Aust to 21-3 up.

Credit to the opperitian though, they didn't give up and pulled a try back just before half time leaving the teams to go in with Aust 21-10 up. Disaster struck for Aust straight from the restart where a fumbled catch by james Perch lead to a quick Kaze Progressa try under the posts. Incredibly though the oppersitian flyhalf slipped and failed to convert the chance.

Then Aust went on the ramarge, scoring 2 converted trys within 5 minuates, Rushmore scoring his second and Corkell blasting through 5 men to touch down. The cup was within Austs reach as Kaze Progressa despritly attempted to pull a try back.

They succeded in the last minuate of the game. With the match won the Austians relaxed and let there opponents win. Despite that though Aust managed to win the Rugby world Cup

Drunken Rioting Marrs Aust Cup Win

Rioting by drunken Austian fans after there sides win in the Rugby World Cup has erupted in the capital of Popular Freedom

Rioters hurled bricks and pertoral bombs at police after Aust won the World Cup. Sources are saying that at least 3 people died in the riots and several polic where injured. There are also unconfirmed reports of rape and murder in the captial.

We'll have more on this later.
Kaze Progressa
04-02-2006, 14:11
In the end, it wasn't surprising, and it wasn't even close. Kaze Progressa lost 35-20 to Aust in the Rugby World Cup final, a score that actually flattered the losers who scored a last-minute consolation try and trailed throughout.

More than a quarter of all TV viewers tuned out soon after two Austian tries in five second-half minutes increased the lead to 20 points, and by the end less than a billion people were watching, a figure that game show 1 v 100 beat easily immediately afterwards.

Message boards said that Kaze Progressa, having avoided extra time in the semi-final only by virtue of a late conversion miss from the Starblaydi fly-half, 'were clearly the weaker side', one adding 'if we're the second best team in the world, I pity every other nation stuck with a team that's allegedly even worse'.

Opinion polls now suggest only 18% oppose the planned renaming of the country as 'The Phoenix Community of Kaze Progressa' rather than 'The Sports-Mad Phoenix Community of Kaze Progressa', down from 32% before the final.

Majority of those Aust citizens involved in riots escorted to airport and placed in Aust custody before their flight back to their homeland.

The PopularFreedom government, has as expected, come down hard on five Aust citizens involved in the most violent clashes with police after Aust's rugby world cup win on Thursday night. Other non-law abiding Aust citizens however were released, at the international airport, into Aust custody with strict conditions that any return to PopularFreedom soil would put them into the same situation as their five comrades currently awaiting trial in a PopularFreedom high security prison.
