Prince Establishes Charitable Organization, the “Prince Damoen Westerin Foundation”

“This is an Aerion News Network World Broadcast. Prince Damoen Wasterin announced today the establishment of the Prince Damoen Wasterin Foundation, an organization the Prince has set up to as he says “promote the well-being of mankind throughout the world." The Prince has endowed this organization with 20 billion Gold Leaves, making it the largest charity of any kind in the Grand Kingdom of Aerion, and one of the only charities set up of this size. The Prince has decreed that any organization or individual in the world who is deemed worthy of a grant from the organization may apply for such, and receive funds. These include individuals or organizations with goals and purposes such as medical research, scientific research, poverty relief, education, social enrichment, etc.

The Prince is one of the few members of the Royal Family in recent history who appears to be interested in philanthropy. Some criticize the Prince for making what they say is obviously a publicity stunt to impress the international community though others say it is a wonderful endeavor”

Those applying for a grant should send applications to the Prince Damoen Foundation Headquarters

Prince Damoen has announced his wish that this fund may also be used for relief efforts, in specific circumstances, and to specific organizations as well as making donations to other charities deemed worthy.

His Holiness, the High Lama of Makan Buddhism, made an announcement today that the Makan Buddhists will be making a donation of 1 billion to the Prince Damoen Wasterin Foundation, drawn from the regular tithing by Makan Buddhists and expressed his approval as well as appreciation for the charitable work of His Royal Highness.

Funds are still available.

Kwan Thi Tam smiled faintly as she read about the prince's offer. The Buddhist nun rose from her seat, frowning faintly at the pain in her back and moving her mind away from it. Her body was getting older, that was certain. Running an center for troubled youth in the "bad part" of Tarana certainly wasn't any help. Still, unlike many in the Sangha, Kwan preferred the life of compassion to that of quiet contemplation.

Kwan walked into the other room of the center, smiling at the much younger woman who was dusting after a busy day. "How are you, Mai?"

"Well enough." answered Mac Thi Mai. "You, however, sound excited."

"Even old ladies have their failings." Kwan answered her. "However, there is something I think we should look at, an opportunity to get funding for the center."

Mai walked over, reading the letter quietly. "I think you should write to His Highness. This does look like a good opportunity to do some good."

As many letters were sent to His Royal Highness, the letter was first received at the Royal District Royal Post Office in Astevane, then checked for security purposes, before being sent to the Royal Palace's Central Mailroom to be read by a minor clerk to see if was of any importance, then to the Prince's Mailroom where it was read by a clerk of the Prince's personal secretary, who decided it was of enough importance to send to the Prince's personal secretary himself. A reply was then prepared

"Your organization has been deemed to receive 15 million Gold Leaves (=US Dollars) to assist you in your work. It is stipulated that this funding must be used for official purposes only. Sign the agreement attached, and call at the given number to give your organization's bank account information so that a transfer of funds may take place or an official courier bearing an check may be dispatched. We wish you luck in your positive endeavours."

The nunes were ecstatic at the large grant and immediately conveyed their great thanks to His Highness and to the Foundation. Thanks to the grant, they were able to expand their program to serve a much larger population and to open one or two new centers, becoming one of the largest charitable organizations in Tarana (unless one counted government run social welfare agencies).

The actions of the Zen Center in Tarana were well observed by the Prince Damoen Wasterin Foundation, and so another 20 million was sent to them to aide them in their work.
