New life.

There are many everyday miracles of nature in the universe, though few are as brilliant as that of bringing into being new life, and such a wonder was occuring aboard a certain time vessel, between a certain timelord and his companion.

In her somewhat luxurious bed, Ceriana lazes, sniffing a rare flower, aware that a precious something is stirring within her belly. She looks to the sky and silently praises her gods for this wonderous gift.

Some months later, in the control room of their timeship
Ceri lurches out of the nearest washroom, almost falling onto one of the seats beside the control panels. Slowly resting against the now soft and expansive chair, She lets out a groan. Argh, dear. These past few months..have at least been bearable with the wonderful medicines and the rest that your ship has provided. I'm eternally grateful, though the coming months are just going to be far more work intensive on both our parts.

It almost makes me wish you didn't whisk me away from my homeworld, almost. The joy at feeling that I am bringing new life into the world overcomes any doubts that I had, though. I just hope that our child doesn't have to go through what I did back home, that it will have a better, less stressful life than I did.

She turns to stare at her companion, slowly closing her eyes for the final rest before the expected arrival of her child.
The Lords of Gallifrey

The interior of the TARDIS’ medical wing, such as it was, was a soothing construction with graceful buttresses of living coral, pulsing with the energy of distant, mysterious and powerful Artron engines coursing through them to different parts of the ship. Nestled in the spaces around several beds in the vessel, complex and fluted pieces of medical technology that mostly resembled nothing so much as overgrown church-organs made of glowing crystals.

In keeping with the tastes of its current occupant, the room, possessing a far heightened form of the metamorphosis technology that allowed the TARDIS to reconfigure its interior to the pilot’s desire, resembled calm, open woodlands. The pilot in question satisfied himself of Ceriana’s comfort on one of the padded beds, and then shuffled over to one of the consoles, hitting a pair of buttons. One released a golden cloud that glimmered with inner light now and then as it spread out to fill the room. The other resulted in a soft blue glow coming from the edges of the bed.

Respectively, the systems were what were called ‘nanogenes’ a form of nanotechnology that was able to perform very complex tasks under the guidance of a central computer - in this case, capable of some exceptionally advanced medical procedures. The second was even more sophisticated, a form of ‘mutagenic revivication enhancement,’ similar to that which Gallifreyans possessed ‘naturally’ but more limited, in that it rebuilt a body far less efficient. Resurrection instead of reincarnation, He doubted that either would be necessary, but it was a very long time since any Time Lord had been required to manage a birth.

Their own species were no longer capable of sexual reproduction, and had not been since the time of Rassilon and Omega, all Gallifreyans were sterile with their own species. No one knew how or why this was, of course, and so, despite tremendous sophistication, no solution had ever been devised, and the Time Lords sprung whole from sophisticated machines pretentiously called Looms. ‘Mortimus’ considered the possibility of finding somewhere else to do the procedure, but then, he doubted that it was possible to fail in this environment. Even if all three beings died in childbirth, they would very rapidly be restored to full health.

Pain, much pain, and yet..joy in the midst of it all. For she was bringing into life something very rare for such a couple. Children. Twins, at that. And with Gallifreyan medical technology, there would be no cause to worry about the newborn. And thus, after a relatively short period, she was cradling her offspring in her arms, whispering things only the three of them could hear. After a bit, she looked up at the monk and asked.. What...shall we call them, precious?
