Bay Football League (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Bay_Football_League) gears up for new season.
North Beach Sharks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/North_Beach_Sharks) to begin quest for three-peat against Crushers at home.

Loyalty Bay - After his suspension from the World Cup and his team's dismal showing, Shawn Peruvo (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Shawn_Peruvo) is looking forward to his return to the soccer pitch in North Beach Park.

The two time champions are a bit weaker it seems with their core group getting older. Peter Sullivan has replaced Oro Julieson as a starter on defense from last year's squad however besides that it will be much the same squad of players that the Shark faithful will see on the field for tomorrow's match.

Meanwhile Pleasantview Raven fans are angry themselves at their team after their dismal showing at the Vassfforcian Football League tournament last month and are hoping for a better showing during this season.

The match to watch should be 6th ranked OceanHeights vs 8th ranked Falconpoint though with so many changes by most teams over the off season all games should be browsed at to find the truly best match tomorrow.

BFL HIGHTLIGHTS: CRUSHERS EARN TIE WITH SHARKS, ARCHERS DESTROY HAWKS.
North Beach stunned after opening day tie.

Loyalty Bay - The North Beach Sharks, back from their recent World Cup outing put on a horrible show against the seventh ranked team in the Bay region barely able to hold onto a tie. As usual Shawn Peruvo (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Shawn_Peruvo) was the goal scorer for the Sharks early in the game however the Sharks seemed to sit on their lead with the Rockyedge Crushers continually pushing until Samson Smith was able to nail the equalizer in the 85th minute of the game. Despite a flurry in the final minutes including one Peruvo shot that hit the cross bar, the final score remained:

North Beach 1
Rockyedge 1

Other scores from today's games are included below:

Willowbrook 3
Central 3

Parkcove 1
Great Falls 1

Falconpoint 0
OceanHeights 5

Paradise 3
Stornoway 1

Downtown 0
Pleasantview 3

What is wrong with the Sharks?
Editorial by Tony Williams.

Editorial - As North Beach residents wake from their drunken hangover they no doubt are checking the morning paper to see if yesterday's results were a bad dream. No doubt many will be shaking their heads to find that it is indeed true, that their team was unable to beat the Crushers in yesterday's match.

Now to the uneducated observer, they should be happy with a tie. However this is the Sharks, one of the premier teams in the Bay Football League (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Bay_Football_League). A league with over 100 years of history. A league dominated by the Sharks and the Pleasantview Ravens (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Pleasantview_Ravens).

The Sharks and the Ravens combined have won 62 championships. That is more than the other 10 teams combined. When the Sharks tie or lose to the Ravens their fans feel they are not good enough, so when you get the results you did yesterday, there is bound to be mass hysteria in North Beach.

Forget about the fact that the Sharks were outshot, forget about the fact that had it not been for a crossbar in injury time that the final score would have been 2-1 for the Sharks. The final result is all that matters for North Beach fans, and the final score was unacceptable. It has been over four years since the Sharks last tied the Rockyedge Crushers (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Rockyedge_Crushers). Again the uneducated would point to that and say, 'no big deal'. However look at the 2000 Sharks record and you will see that that team is nothing to be compared to. Furthermore look for the last time that the Crushers beat or tied the Sharks, prior to the 2000 season, and you will be looking back to the 1980s.

Then of course there is the Sharks embarrassment at the recent World Cup. Four wins, four draws, and SIX, count them SIX losses! They blamed that on the pool they were in and that teams like Bedistan and Audioslavia were just too good, however now there is proof, that as many fans were saying, it was that the Sharks were just that bad in fact.

Then again maybe this is just a stumbling point on their road to a three-peat championship, maybe they will look back and say this is the game that caused them to wake up. Whatever the case they had better sharpen up for if they play poorly against the last place Downtown Capitalists (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Downtown_Capitalists) this coming Wednesday, I hate to see fan reaction after the game.

Archers: Could it be their year?
By: Felix Rathoman

Editorial - As the scores came in from yesterday the usual articles and commentary arose from sports centres across the city and for that matter the country. 'What is wrong with the Sharks?', screamed one newspaper headline. 'Titans mauled by Bobcats!', another article noted. Sports commentary shows argued about whether the Great Falls Eagles actually can capitalize this season on the weakness of the Ravens and Sharks since the Eagles themselves tied the 10th ranked Rangers yesterday. Everyone however overlooked the blatantly obvious. That the OceanHeights Archers (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/OceanHeights_Archers) finally have a team worthy of a league championship.

Obviously, naysayers will note that the Archers have not won a title since 1964 however not winning for decades does not mean you cannot win now, besides the 2000 Parkcove Rangers championship proved that after 54 years of futility.

The Archers are here however. Their 5-0 feast on the Falconpoint Hawks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Falconpoint_Hawks) yesterday was just the beginning. The Archers are full of talent which has been slowly building chemistry together, which this year should finally unite together in a championship, the first in over 40 years for the Archers. The reasons why I can confidently predict such a championship are endless.

Some would have you believe that the North Beach Sharks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/North_Beach_Sharks) or Pleasantview Ravens (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Pleasantview_Ravens) are going to dominate, however we have seen otherwise this year already. The Sharks poor showing at World Cup 24, coupled with Pleasantview getting rocked by the Sharks at the Vassfforcian tournament earlier this year point to the fact that both these teams are getting complacent, and complacency does not win championships.

Shark fans will excuse yesterday's performance and say it was just a small blip in their championship run, however when they have played this way all year such as in World Cup 24, it definately is not a blip but this will come to light soon enough. Raven fans of course will no doubt brag about destroying the Downtown Capitalists (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Downtown_Capitalists) yesterday 3-0, however this is not a real test. Beating the worst team in the league is not something to brag about, it means that you have not beat anyone else during the year so having to resort to that means that your team in fact does suck.

Looking further down the rankings the Titans and the Eagles both tied against weaker teams yesterday while the Blizzard lost. That is when you get to the Archers.

Sure, the Archers are 6th ranked in the league based on last year, but one need only think about 2001 when a North Beach Shark team that was lower than 6th the previous season, won the league title and realize that past rankings are meaningless. Some will argue, 'well it was the Sharks so that is to be expected'. Well this is the Archers and they have the talent and skill to repeat such a feat this year.

Their new coach has switched them to a high scoring 5-2-3 formation. Couple this with a new long ball style and factor in the speed of Mike Potvin and Luke Orlando and already you can see why they completely dominated the Hawks yesterday. Also their defense core has aged a year and their true starting goalie, Mike Hosanitz, is back from injury meaning that their defense is stronger than it has been in oh lets say over 40 years.

Obviously those still reveling in Raven or Shark fokelore will be blinded to such skill however as the season progresses and the Archers keep winning eventually everyone will come to the realization that this year the Archers are for real.

UPCOMING MATCH ANALYSIS
OceanHeights vs Rockyedge the game to watch.

Loyalty Bay - Game two, for all teams in the Bay Football League (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/PopularFreedom_Bay_Football_League), tomorrow could not come soon enough. Some teams wish to prove that this past Sunday was not a fluke while others want to prove that they are not on the verge of disaster.

The game for sure to watch however will be the OceanHeights vs Rockyedge game live from the OceanHeights district. This game is between two evenly ranked teams who played quite well last Sunday, the Rockyedge Crushers (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Rockyedge_Crushers) tieing number one ranked North Beach Sharks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/North_Beach_Sharks), while the OceanHeights Archers (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/OceanHeights_Archers) thorougly destroyed the Falconpoint Hawks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Falconpoint_Hawks) 5-0.

With the seventh ranked Rockyedge squad, you have a team that focuses on defense first, and second, and third. A boring brand of soccer for sure, however they can turn it up a notch if they have to as was shown against the Sharks last Sunday. The OceanHeights Archers meanwhile are the complete opposite. A new formation has them focused on one thing, pure attack. Led by speedsters Mike Potvin and Luke Orlando they were constant in their blitz of the Hawks zone last Sunday which led the startled Hawk goalkeeper, Geoff Kirpatrick, to note after the game, '...did they have more players than us? They were everywhere...'. Despite OceanHeights new offensive prowess however, we expect Rockyedge to work their magic again on defense and just squeak by for the win. Our pick is Rockyedge by one goal in this one.

The other games tomorrow should be rather predictable though again with last Sunday's surprises one never knows.

Stornoway vs Falconpoint. Both teams lost in their first game, Stornoway to 9th ranked Paradise, while the Falconpoint Hawks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Falconpoint_Hawks) got crushed by the OceanHeights Archers (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/OceanHeights_Archers) 5-0. Should be an interesting game in light of the fact that both teams will be playing for pride after their seperate humiliations in their first games. We give the edge to the Stornoway Blizzard (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Stornoway_Blizzard) only because they are playing at home.

Pleasantview vs Willowbrook. Complete mismatch here. The Pleasantview Ravens (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Pleasantview_Ravens) are on a mission to get their championship back and definetly the second last ranked team in the league is not going to stand up to them. True, Willowbrook fans will argue that they tied third ranked Central, but Central was obviously rusty, furthermore Willowbrook was at home. This week they are in the Ravens Nest, meaning the only homefield advantage they might have is if Raven fans toss Willowbrook fans over the second deck onto the field. Pleasantview definetly wins this one.

Downtown vs North Beach. Well this one could be close after North Beach tied...okay just kidding. Still the North Beach Sharks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/North_Beach_Sharks) need a huge victory to overcome critism after their tie against the Crushers. I still am curious how Downtown attracts such a huge fanbase despite the fact that they have lost virtually every game they have played this millenium. Guess it has something to do with the Stornoway City water. Our pick is North Beach but by a close score.

Central vs Parkcove. Parkcove tied Great Falls last Sunday, however Central will be itching to recover from their tie against Willowbrook, expect Central to crush the Parkcove Rangers (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Parkcove_Rangers) bigtime. Our edge goes to the Central Titans, no question.

Great Falls vs Paradise. The Great Falls Eagles (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Great_Falls_Eagles) are back home this Wednesday and will the home crowd be in an ugly mood. Angry at the way the Eagles played against Parkcove in their first game, the Paradise Dolphins (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Paradise_Dolphins) need only score a quick early goal against the Eagles pourous defense and the mob at Talon stadium should start their normal custom of raining down debris onto the field. Only if the Eagles actual remember how to play defense do they stand a chance though either way, if you attend this game, stay out of the first few rows or else expect to be hit by something. Our pick in this game is Paradise by a lot.

RAVEN FANS PUMPED AFTER WIN, RANGERS TIE THE TITANS.
Pleasantview in sole possession of first place.

Loyalty Bay - As the game ended the chant echoed in the confines of the Ravens Nest, 'RAAAAAAAAA-VENSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS WE'RE THE BEST. WE'LL BEAT THE SHARKS AND WE'LL BEAT THE REST...'. Over and over again the chant emitted from the fired up crowd of Raven supporters. Not only had their hometown Pleasantview Ravens won another match, but had also taken control of first place in the league after only their second match. Coupled with that was the fact that until the 85th minute the clock in the Ravens Nest of their arch rivals, the North Beach Sharks verses the 12th ranked Downtown Capitalists, showed a score of 0-0. Alas a groan emitted from the crowd during the Ravens match when the scoreboard showed that the Sharks got a goal in their match in Stornoway City against the Downtown Capitalists, but still it could not dampen the enthusiasm of the fans. 'Jones Jones Jones', crowed one fan after forward Aaron Jones scored 2 goals and got an assist on the third by substitute forward Jon Douglas as the Ravens controlled most of the play in their victory over the Willowbrook Bobcats.

Meanwhile in other BFL action, Ullyses Donell was able to score a goal in the 52nd minute for the Stornoway Blizzard allowing them to win at home against the Falconpoint Hawks.

In Downtown Stornoway City the Capitalists played their hearts out but still lost on a Shawn Peruvo penalty kick in the 85th minute as the Sharks escaped with a 1-0 victory.

OceanHeights Archers and Rockyedge Crushers battled to a 1-1 draw with goals by Luke Orlando for the Archers in the 23rd minute while substitute Moses Armstrong got the tying goal for the Crushers in the 77th minute.

The Central Titans continued to worry their fans as they allowed the Parkcove Rangers to continue their shock treatment on the elite teams with a 1-1 draw. Goals were scored by Richard Tucker of the Titans in the 43rd minute, and Rex Howard of the Rangers in the 54th minute.

Finally the Eagles playing at home in Great Falls, were able to defeat a tenacious group from Paradise with a score of 2-1 over the Dolphins. Craig Ebrahim & Brett Gilinger scored in the 58th and 89th minute respectively for the Eagles while the Dolphins got their lone goal in the 81st minute from Jason Westlake.

UPCOMING MATCH ANALYSIS
Huge weak for a number of teams as many games too close to call.

Loyalty Bay - We have finally reached the 3rd game day and the standings are quite different from what everyone imagined. North Beach have not been their dominant selves while the Plesantview Ravens are destroying all competitors. Meanwhile the Downtown Capitalists are where they usually are, in the basement, however surprisingly they have been joined by the Falconpoint Hawks who are not used to this sort of futility.

Tomorrow's games will possibly be the momentum that some teams need to make the rest of the season a success while other teams will find that it will be the turning point in what made their season a failure. We analyze each game in detail.

Parkcove Rangers vs Willowbrook Bobcats: The Rangers have played remarkably well in their first two games this season. Led by goaltender Tim Anthony, they have been able to stymie both the Great Falls Eagles, and the Central Titans earning ties with both. Their next game should be an easy one against Willowbrook though Willowbrook has played decent as well in their tie against the Titans and a loss against the Ravens. Still if forward Vince Girber continues to play as he has in the first two games the Rangers should find tomorrows match an easy one.

Paradise Dolphins vs Downtown Capitalists: Most gamblers were having a heartattack last week during the Capitalists/Sharks match until the 85th minute where Peruvo finally scored on the Capitalists. Still last week showed a resolution within the Capitalists to be able to take on the Sharks and almost come out with the tie. This week they face a far lesser opponent in the Paradise Dolphins. Though the Dolphins shocked the 5th ranked Stornoway Blizzard on opening day, they showed themselves as less than mortal on Wednesday in their loss to Great Falls. Expect an upset therefore as goalkeeper Walt Vargoss is expected to put in another sizzling performance in the Capitalists goal.

Falconpoint Hawks vs Pleasantivew Ravens: Raven forwards Peter Gregg, Harry Vincent, and Aaron Jones will no doubt put on a clinic against a shoddy Hawk defense and a far worse goaltender. The OceanHeights Archers destroyed the Hawks on game day one. Though the Hawks played better against Stornoway on game day two, still expect a blowout for the Ravens.

North Beach Sharks vs Stornoway Blizzard: The Sharks have been playing horrible of late and were barely able to squeak by the Capitalists last week. Stornoway has been quite weak too however expect the Blizzard to come away with a shocker of a victory assuming that goaltender Mike Vander can stop the Shark attack.

OceanHeights Archers vs Great Falls Eagles: This one should be a very close game. The Archers have played better than the Eagles thus far but the Eagles still have scoring sensation Steve Zetter from last year. That said he has been a bit quiet this season so expect the Archers to win a close one.

Rockyedge Crushers vs Central Titans: The Titans, as a whole, have taken the lead of the Sharks and come to this season with a lazy attitude on the field. That has resulted in two ties against extremely weak competition. Meanwhile the Crushers tied number one ranked North Beach, and number six ranked OceanHeights so far this season so expect them to absolute crush the Titans. The fact that the game is in Rockyedge should only further encourage a blowout of a game.

RAVENS AND SHARKS BOTH CRUSH THEIR OPPONENTS.
Peruvo scores a hattrick for North Beach while Gregg does the same for the Ravens.

Loyalty Bay - The Ravens did what was expected, while the Sharks did what they had stated they could do. In the end Ravens still find themselves at the top of the league but only 2 points ahead of both the Sharks and Archers.

Game Recaps:

In North Beach with the home crowd in a angry mood after North Beach's first two games, star forward Shawn Peruvo scored a hattrick, while midfielders Greg Prustelik, and Cam Govardi got the other goals as the Sharks destroyed the Blizzard 5-1. Stornoway's only goal was scored by forward Ullyses Donell.

In Falconpoint, the Hawks played poorly allowing Peter Gregg a hattrick while Aaron Jones scored the other as the Pleasantview Ravens crushed the Hawks 4-0. Goalie Edgar Williams got the shutout.

In Parkcove the Rangers got quick goals from forwards Vince Girber, and Rex Howard and then went into a defensive shell leading to a 2-0 win over Willowbrook. Goalie Tim Anthony earned the shutout.

On Paradise Island the Dolphins dominated the Downtown Capitalists winning easily 3-1. Goals for the Dolphins were scored by Zack Karmina, Jason Westlake, and Paul Guelma. Forward Bruce Donaldo scored the only goal for the Capitalists.

The OceanHeights Archers continued their strong play with a come from behind victory over the Great Falls Eagles. The Eagles opened up the scoring with forward Craig Ebrahim getting two quick goals within the first 20 minutes of the game. The Archers battled back with goals by Mike Potvin, and Gus Hamilton leaving Luke Orlando to score the tiebreaker in injury time during the second half for a thrilling come from behind victory.

In one of the most exciting games of the year the Rockyedge Crushers and Central Titans played a fast flowing attack style game which was not resolved until an Anthony Lomex header into the net in the 76th minute of play. Titans goaltender Corey Thistleburg played brilliantly in net especially in the last five minutes of play as the Crushers poured it on but could not break his shutout. The final score ended up Titans 1, Crushers 0.

UPCOMING MATCH ANALYSIS: Can anyone beat the Ravens?
Pleasantview off to impressive start in 2005.

Loyalty Bay - Peter Gregg, Harry Vincent, and Aaron Jones on their own can cause damage. Just ask the Falconpoint Hawks about that and see their reactions when you mention Peter Gregg's name for proof. Now put them on the same team and you have the reason why the Ravens are running away with the 2005 title. No other team has looked as strong thus far this season. Sure Shark fans will note that they are back and after a strong showing against the Blizzard last Sunday it is evident they are. However the Ravens are thus far perfect and should remain so for quite some time.

Pleasantview Ravens vs Rockyedge Crushers - Today the Ravens face the Rockyedge Crushers, a team that despite a tie against the Sharks has yet to win a game. No doubt Gregg and his boys will again have a great 'practice' during the match. Expect a blow out in this match as Pleasantview will win large. Prediction: Ravens by 5 at least.

Downtown Capitalists vs Falconpoint Hawks - Well if there ever was a championship for the worst teams in the league this would be it. Both of these excuses for football clubs have scored a combined 1 goal this season. It will be played in downtown Stornoway City so of course it will be sold out by those business elite who will watch obviously anything. Our pick is Downtown in this one though again that is just because they have at least found the net this season once. Prediction: Downtown by 1 not that anyone will care except Hawk fans.

Great Falls Eagles vs Stornoway Blizzard - After last Sunday's blowout the Blizzard will be looking to regroup while the Eagles will be looking for revenge after their thrilling loss against the Archers. Expect another blowout as the Eagles take out their frustration on the hapless Blizzard. Prediction: Eagles by a ton

Central Titans vs OceanHeights Archers - The Archers are pumped and should they ever be. They won a thriller at home this past Sunday and look to again knock off another highly ranked team today. The Central Titans meanwhile came off their first win of the season after two ties so they are meandering somewhat. Expect the Archers to come out with a blistering attack even with Central at home. Advantage definetly goes to OceanHeights in this one for the victory. Prediction: OceanHeights by 1

Parkcove Rangers vs North Beach Sharks - Parkcove has played well thus far though they are going up against a Shark squad that has rediscovered how to bury the ball in the back of the net. Despite being at home unless Tim Anthony is near perfect in the Ranger net expect the Sharks to run away with this one big time. Prediction: Blowout by the Sharks

Willowbrook Bobcats vs Paradise Dolphins - At first glance this is one of the games that you would only watch when no other game is on. However stop for a second and notice the Dolphins this season. Two wins, one loss and the loss was a close one against the Eagles. Paradise has been playing quality football in all their matches so expect them to do that again in Willowbrook. Though it will probably be a blowout it still should be an entertaining affair. Prediction: Blowout by the Dolphins

PARKCOVE STUNS THE SHARKS, WINS 1-0!
Goalkeeper Tim Anthony propels his team to victory with shutout.

Loyalty Bay - Tim Anthony played in the same form he did when the Rangers last won the championship in 2000, frustrating the Shark forwards and causing the final outcome to be in favour of the Rangers.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd in the Loyalty Bay neighbourhood of Parkcove, the Rangers were no true match for the Sharks except that time and again Anthony bailed out his team. At times the Rangers were able to launch attacks, however most of them ended with no real scoring chance while helping to launch the Sharks on the offensive.

Anthony played brilliantly and stopped numerous shots that looked like sure goals. The Rangers were then, behind backup forward Tie Zonder's beautiful header of a corner, able to take the lead in the 73rd minute. The Sharks mounted a barrage of shots towards Anthony for the rest of the match however he was able to stand his ground and help the Rangers defeat the Sharks for the biggest upset thus far this year.

In other football news the Ravens continue to lead the Bay Football League standings after a 4-1 victory over the Crushers. Great Falls Eagles blanked the Blizzard 3-0. Central and OceanHeights battled to a 1-1 draw. The Dolphins were able to hang on for a win over the Bobcats 3-2. Finally in the 'crap bowl' the Hawks were finally able to score their first goal of the season as they blanked the Downtown Capitalists 1-0.

UPCOMING MATCH ANALYSIS: What surprises await us tomorrow?

Loyalty Bay - After the heroics of Tim Anthony of the Parkcove Rangers on Wednesday, despite the incompetency of the rest of his team, odds makers are left scratching their heads wondering who will win tomorrow. We run down our expectations though in light of the way the season has gone thus far expect at least one huge surprise.

Great Falls Eagles vs Pleasantview Ravens: The Eagles have done well this season. Well however is not good enough against the red-hot Ravens however. Though star striker Peter Gregg is questionable for the Ravens tomorrow, the rest of the team is quite capable of putting the Eagles away even without Gregg. Interestingly enough also missing from the Ravens practice yesterday at Talon Stadium in Great Falls was Ravens forward Harry Vincent though again the Ravens have been tight lipped about his absense as well. Either in the rare occurance that both strikers could not play however still expect the Ravens to feast on the Eagles. Prediction: Ravens by a goal.

Stornoway Blizzard vs Downtown Capitalists: Well with speculation rampant that the powers that be are going to finally make it where the Bay Football League will be tier 1, and the Pearson Cliffs Football Association will be tier 2 in PopularFreedom one can only assume that the Downtown Capitalists will at the end of this season be relegated to a league they can compete in. After being blanked by the hopeless Falconpoint Hawks on Wednesday however do not expect them to do much in terms of anything in Stornoway City tomorrow. Prediction: Stornoway 1-0.

Rockyedge Crushers vs Parkcove Rangers: After Tim Anthony's performance against the Sharks in their last game the Crushers must be worried about how to beat him. If they can get one by him then their job will be much easier since the inept Parkcove forwards do not pose much of a threat. Prediction: 1-1 tie.

OceanHeights Archers vs Willowbrook Bobcats: With the Archers tied for 2nd place and the Bobcats fighting to be relegated with the Capitalists this game is going to be only for those who enjoy mismatches. Expect Archer forwards Mike Potvin and/or Luke Orlando to get a hattrick on whoever the Bobcats put in net. Prediction: OceanHeights by a lot.

Falconpoint Hawks vs Paradise Dolphins: The Dolphins are currently in 2nd place. Now that I have your attention as you check to see what I am talking about you no doubt are startled to see that in fact I am telling the truth. Then you study who they played and understand why as you notice their wins over Stornoway, Willowbrook, and Downtown. That said they are going up against a team tomorrow that can only score against the Capitalists so it is safe to assume that as long as Dolphins score one goal they should take this game easy. Prediction: Paradise 1-0.

North Beach Sharks vs Central Titans: Both of these teams have already allowed much weaker teams to beat and tie them this season respectively so honestly whoever shows up wanting a win should win. In the Sharks you have the same scoring threat with Shawn Peruvo, and John Collins. The Titans still rely on their ridiculous 10 midfielder system which works wonders some days and others is the most ridiculous thing ever seen. With the game in North Beach, and the crowd no doubt in a foul mood after the Sharks loss on Wednesday to the 10th ranked Rangers, expect that they will play a pivotal part in this. If the Sharks are playing well then expect them to deafening everyone on the field with their chants, while if the Sharks are playing poorly make sure you have an umbrella if you sit in the front few rows. Either way it will definetly be a game to watch. Prediction: North Beach by a goal.

RIOTS IN GREAT FALLS MAR MATCH.
Over 300 injured in riots in relation to injury of Raven star Aaron Jones.

Great Falls - The main match of the day in Great Falls with the Great Falls Eagles vs the Pleasantview Ravens turned ugly early. The Ravens, already missing forwards Peter Gregg and Harry Vincent for undisclosed reasons lost backup forward Jeff Howard in the 7th minute on a questionable call. He lost the ball then did a slide tackle on Eagle defender Thurston Kefler as he tried to recover it. The referee gave him a red card sending him off and leaving the Ravens with 10 men for the remainder of the match. Though no doubt a card was warranted the Raven bench and fans were livid with the colour of it.

Five minutes later the Ravens were deep in the Eagles end and forward Aaron Jones had the ball when he was viciously checked from behind by defender Thurston Kefler. The referee for whatever reason failed to call a foul of any kind and play continued until a Raven player drilled the ball out of bounds so that medical staff could tend to an obviously in pain player who was in agony on the field. The Ravens bench meanwhile was livid with the referee as was a number of the Raven players. Substitute forward Rob Roy noted something to the referee and was shown a red card which prompted the Raven fans to rush the field. Riot police who were stationed around the field as normal procedure were overwhelmed and most players had to take cover as the fans, though smaller in number began to rush the field, seemingly heading for the referee, hurling objects as they went. A brawl on the field ensued between Raven fans and Eagle supporters who likewise rushed the field upon seeing the Raven side of the field empty. When the melee finished over 100 fans had been arrested, and over 300 had been sent to hospital. Riot police used tear gas to disperse most of the rioters and within an hour order had been fully restored to the stadium. The game itself continued about 3 hours after the initial riot began, the stands at Talon Field quiet due to all fans being banned from the stadium for the remainder of the match.

The game itself was played with much valour on both sides with the Ravens playing remarkably well despite being down 2 men at the restart (and 3 by the end after Aaron Jones' replacement Jon Douglas sucker punched Eagle defender Thurston Kefler, leaving him with a broken nose). The Eagles however were able to prevail on the strength of a 85th minute goal to win it 3-2 in the most controversal match to date thus far this season.

As analysts poured over the game tape after the match one might lament the fact that the riot was so violent but in light of the fact that last season there had already been 3 riots by game day 5 it was to be expected.

In other games around the league, Stornoway fell behind 2-0 at home before getting 3 goals in the second half to defeat Downtown 3-2 in the annual rivalry game in Stornoway City. Parkcove battled the Crushers to a 1-1 draw in Rockyedge. The Archers continued to dominate their opponents defeating the Bobcats 4-1. Geoff Kirpatrick was brilliant in helping the Hawks to get a draw with the Paradise Dolphins 0-0. Finally, in North Beach, the Central Titans dominated the Sharks defeating the reigning Bay Football League champs 3-1 to further deflate the Shark faithful at North Beach Park.

Referee TJ Griklov fired!
Announcement by Bay Football League comes just prior to matchday six.

After the riot in Great Falls (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9663949&postcount=12) caused by the inaccurate referring by the rookie this decision was inevitable. TJ Griklov, in his 5th game this season was let go by the league after he red carded one Raven, a punishment that was a little too harsh, while Griklov missed the play where Great Falls defender Thurston Kefler made a vicious play on Raven forward Aaron Jones causing an injury which now looks will sideline him for the rest of the season.

The league has also hinted that Kefler may be suspended for the rest of the season, joining Raven forward Jon Douglas who has already been suspended for the rest of the year by the league.

The matches today because of the current situation with both the Ravens and the Eagles therefore should be interesting.

UPCOMING MATCH ANALYSIS:

-Falconpoint Hawks vs North Beach Sharks: Prediction Sharks by a ton
-Paradise Dolphins vs Rockyedge Crushers: Prediction Paradise by a lot
-Parkcove Rangers vs OceanHeights Archers: Prediction Parkcove will upset the Archers
-Pleasantview Ravens vs Central Titans: Prediction Pleasantview will win by one goal at home

TITANS WIN, RAVENS IN TROUBLE.
Great Falls and Paradise now tied for 1st overall.

Loyalty Bay - The Ravens are in trouble. Sure one could argue that they lost to the third ranked team in the league however with the loss of their top 3 forwards to injury, and a fourth to suspension the team is reeling. The Ravens situation does not take away from the fine effort put forth by the Central Titans in hanging on for the win however with the Ravens in freefall there are going to be a lot of 'what ifs' from Raven fans about this season for years to come.

Here is a recap of yesterdays games:

Falconpoint Hawks vs North Beach Sharks: The Sharks were able to easily walk away with this one. Goals were scored by Cam Govardi at the 13th minute, Greg Prustelik at the 33th minute, and Shawn Peruvo at the 43rd minute for the Sharks while the Hawks were able to break the shutout at the 85th minute with a goal by Chester Serontham.

Paradise Dolphins vs Rockyedge Crushers: After an early goal by Crusher forward Samson Smith the Dolphins regrouped and fought back to score two second half goals to win a close one at home.

Parkcove Rangers vs OceanHeights Archers: In a fast paced game both teams battled back and forth in a high spirited affair. Archer forward Mike Potvin scored at the 21st minute however the Rangers responded in the 33rd and the 39th minute with two goals from forward Tie Zonder who was a substitute for Rex Howard. In the second half the Archers tied and then went ahead on goals from Luke Orlando. The Rangers however were able to tie it up in the 81st minute on a beautiful solo effort by Ranger forward Vince Girber to deal lock the score at 3-3.

Pleasantview Ravens vs Central Titans: Despite the loss of their 3 starting forwards, the Ravens battled with the Titans however came out the loser at home. Goals were scored for the Ravens by midfielders Keith Sullivan, and Steven Smith while the Titans got goals from Raymond Luwitz, John Flair, and Jerry Polente.

Downtown Capitalists vs Great Falls Eagles: Despite the game being in Stornoway City, besides Capitalist and Eagle fans, masses of Pleasantview Raven fans made the trip to watch the game. Within minutes of fans being let in the gates riot police had to be called in to arrest numerous Pleasantview Raven supporters who were hurling objects at Eagle fans and players before the start of the game. Obviously these fans were still furious about the injury to Aaron Jones by a Eagle player during game day five. Once order was restored the game was started with the Eagles completely dominating the hapless Capitalists 4-0.

Willowbrook Bobcats vs Stornoway Blizzard: These two teams both scored early in the game and then settled into a defensive wall not letting the other side to advance much. As the second half drew to a close Willowbrook fans booed their team on their lack of effort to try and break the draw during the second half of play. Final score 1-1.

RAVEN FANS BARRED FROM ALL EAGLE GAMES OUTSIDE OF PLEASANTVIEW.
Ridiculous order comes straight from Prime Minister.

Locke Harbour - The Prime Minister has again involved himself in the affairs of the football world. After the riot in Great Falls earlier this week he has ordered that all games involving the Eagles have additional guards placed at them and that all Pleasantview Raven fans be barred from these contests. This edict comes days after Raven fans caused problems at the Eagles last game. It will be interesting to see the amount of police present the next time these two teams played. Speaking of riots the Stornoway Blizzard show up in Rockyedge to face the Crushers in their first meeting since fans of both these teams went to battle in the stands last November 3rd. This year should be no different either. These teams hate each other and no doubt despite the poor play of both teams thus far into the season, expect it to be another war both on and off the field. Prediction: Blizzard by 1

In other matches:
Paradise Dolphins entertain the Central Titans in what is being billed as the best match of the first half of the season. The Dolphins look to hang onto first place while the Titans hope to make Dolphin goalie Alex Carrville less than human. Prediction: Dolphins by 1

OceanHeights Archers vs North Beach Sharks. The Sharks are playing like junk so far this season while the Archers are on fire! Expect Mike Potvin and Luke Orlando to continue to remain hot for the Archers while Shark goalie Peter Locart still has yet to find his form this season. Prediction: Archers by 1.

Falconpoint Hawks vs Great Falls Eagles. With Pleasantview Raven fans banned from this match supposedly the Eagles should have no excuses on not scoring a ton of goals on this PCFA (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/PopularFreedom_Pearson_Cliffs_Football_Association) quality team. Prediction: Great Falls by a ton.

Willowbrook Bobcats vs Downtown Capitalists. Willowbrook has played okay at times though usually stinks. Expect the Capitalists to capitalize on that as they have to win sometime so they will gear up big time for this game. Prediction: Capitalists by a few.

Parkcove Rangers vs Pleasantview Ravens. Parkcove has been playing awesome this season while the Ravens are in a freefall ever since their top 3 forwards went down with injuries. Expect the Ravens to fight hard but the Rangers to steal a victory. Prediction: Rangers by 1.

BOBCATS MAUL CAPITALISTS 7-1.
Jack Hanley scores hattrick in slaughter.

Willowbrook - Most will no doubt wonder what has gotten into the writers at this paper in starting off with this game, however once they see the score they will no doubt understand. The Willowbrook Bobcats thoroughly dominated the Downtown Capitalists scoring 7 consecutive goals before the Capitalists were able to break the shutout in the 89th minute of play.

Opening the scoring was Bobcat forward Jack Hanely in the 3rd minute of play as the Bobcats roared down the field and started peppering Capitalist goalie Walt Vargoss until Hanely blocked a clearing attempt and fired the ball into a gaping net for the first goal of the contest. Minutes later Hanely again was speeding his way through the Capitalist defense before firing a shot that arched over the hands of Vargoss and found its way off the crossbar and into the net for a 2-0 Willowbrook lead at the 9th minute. Goals by forwards Garth Parker and Jonus Capstone in the 20th and 24th minutes respectively were quickly followed by Hanely once again having the ball deep in the Capitalist end and quickly finding the back of the net for a 5-0 lead at the 29th minute of play. As the game reached halftime the Bobcats were able to get two more goals off cornerkicks, one by midfielder Jerry Nindall at the 36th minute and the other by midfielder Tim England at the 44th minute to make the score 7-0 going into half.

The Bobcats at halftime substituted their entire forward and midfield line which contributed to their lack of scoring prowess in the 2nd half though by that time the only thing in question was whether Bobcat goalie Lewis Smith would earn a shutout. The shutout seemed assured until the 89th minute when Capitalist forward Bruce Donaldo broke through the Bobcat defensive line on a break and was able to beat Smith on a breakaway one on one. Still however at the end of the game the Bobcats stood triumph in the biggest mismatch so far this season.

Bay Football League and Pearson Cliffs Football Association to merge.
League to be tiers 1 and 2 of super football league in the nation.

Loyalty Bay - After months of speculation it was finally made official today. The Bay Football League (BFL) and the Pearson Cliffs Football Association (PCFA) will be working together as two tiers in the same league beginning at the end of the BFL season this year.

The BFL, the superior of the two leagues, will be deemed as tier 1 in the super football league, while the PCFA will be deemed as tier 2. At the end of the BFL season which happens in the middle of November, the 12th ranked team in the BFL will play the top ranked team of the PCFA from the previous season. As an example last year the PCFA champion was the Brunstone Grizzlies. After the BFL season ends, and prior to the start of the PCFA season at the end of November, the Grizzlies will play whoever happens to be the last (12th) placed team in the BFL this season. The winner will be in the BFL tier next season, while the loser will be in the PCFA tier this season.

The board of directors of both leagues are hoping this will help to expand the game of football eastward in a nation that seems to have embraced rugby and hockey as their national sports thus far.

Players and fans meanwhile seemed supportive of the move. North Beach Shark star forward Shawn Peruvo seemed especially enthusiatic about the possibilities in noting that it will increase competitiveness among the lower placed teams to help ensure that they do not face the embarassing prospect of being relegated.

Currently if the season would end today the Downtown Capitalists, losers of their last 7 straight since last year's win over the Falconpoint Hawks, would be the team facing relegation. In light of their recent disaster verses the Bobcats (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9700890&postcount=16), in this reporters opinion, many fans no doubt welcome the additional opportunity to see better football talent than what possibly might be in last place in the league at this point in time.

Harbour Sharks lose again at Cup of Harmony.
Disgusting display ruining prestige of PopularFreedom nation in the football world.

INTERNATIONAL REPORT - A day after the football elite leagues in the nation joined forces, the Harbour Sharks, representing the nation at the Cup of Harmony were beaten once again.

The Sharks, currently with a record of 0-5 have played horribly throughout the tournament despite what some of the close scores might indicate. Today's game proved no exception to this common practice either.

The opponents, the Bettia Aroras, now hold the 2nd spot in the group as they marched onto the field and thoroughly dominated the Harbour Sharks. The Aroras controlled the ball from the opening kickoff. Gethin Ward was able to slice through the pourous defense of the Sharks getting away shot after shot until finally he was able to get the ball past goaltender Roscoe Smith to make it 1-0 at the 8th minute of play.

The following 15 minutes the Aroras were again able to wade through the Harbour Sharks defenders but Smith was able to keep them at bay. Then in the 23rd minute Arora forward Gethin Ward was again able to come up with a rebound and blast home a shot to up the score to 2-0.

The Sharks bewildered by the constant pressure switched to a 3-0-7 formation for the ensuing kickoff and this seemed to work for a while. The Sharks were able to march down the field and quickly score a goal from the edge of the box as Cameron Post fired a shot that flew out of the reach of Arora goaltender Ricardo DiTorino in the 25th minute. This uprising however was short lived as on the ensuing restart, the Aroras marched back down field and after a few minutes of rattling the ball off Shark goaltender Roscoe Smith were again able to find the net at the 31st minute to make it 3-1 after a brilliant shot by Arora midfielder Evan Brooks.

The Arora forwards continued their dominance in play and were rewarded just before halftime as forward Lewis Bin Majd was able to head a corner into the right upper corner at the 43rd minute mark to make it 4-1 for the Aroras entering halftime.

At the break the Aroras substituted off a number of their star players and the Sharks seemed to take advantage of this in the early stages of the second half. At the 49th minute Martin Young, who had replaced Roy Biblia at halftime, was able to break through the Arora defense and after a breakaway, arch a quick shot over a sprawling Ricardo DiTorino to cut the Arora lead to 4-2. Minutes later the Sharks were again able to steal the ball off defender Ioan Keffin, a substitute at halftime for the Aroras, and scream into the Arora end. This time however DiTorino made a wonderful save off the shot by Young. Arora defender Ioan Keffin however was a bit overeager in his hustle to get the ball from Young and tripped him in the penalty box area. Young made no mistake on the penalty kick and at the 55th minute of play the Aroras found their lead had diminished again to a 4-3 score.

Incensed at the mistakes Keffin had made causing the last 2 goals, the Arora coach quickly substituted the 25 year old off and replaced him with a much more reliable defender in Wasim Morgan. Morgan proved to be much better than his counterpart as this weakness in the Arora defensive line was now shored up.

The remainder of the game was the Aroras putting on a passing clinic as the Sharks for the most part were unable to get a hold of the ball for long. As the whistle ended to end the embarrassment the Sharks were able to leave the field with a 4-3 score which was much closer than the actually game itself. Fans of the Harbour Sharks can only hope they play a bit better in the games to come instead of the rookie effort seen thus far in the tournament.

RANGERS DESTROY CAPITALISTS 5-0.
Downtown Stornoway team hurtling towards relegation match.

Stornoway City - The Capitalists again have made regional headlines for all the wrong reasons. After a 7-1 slaughter at the hands of the Willowbrook Bobcats on Sunday the coach of the Capitalists alternated the starting lineup however a similar effort was put forth today on the football pitch resulting in the disgusting result that Capitalist fans had to watch. Fans showered their team with debris at the end of the match as they did not have a lot to cheer about throughout the game. Credit must be given to the Parkcove Rangers for their controlling play however their full control of the game also was partly due to the incompetency of the Capitalist players. Within 10 minutes of the game beginning, the Rangers had ball control for over 90% of it and had already amassed a 2-0 lead on goals by forward Vince Girber and midfielder Peter Anderson. Billionaires Stadium, home of the Capitalists, was as usual a zoo with the Capitalist fans chanting like madmen however it did not do much of any good at all. During the 23rd minute midfielder Kevin Matthews was able to get another shot by goalie Keith Solenor who was the starter today after 1st string goalie Walt Vargoss allowed the open flood gates in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Willowbrook Bobcats. The Capitalist fans still tried to rally their team however in the 27th minute the Rangers were able to score their 4th goal of the day when midfielder Andy Jones was able to trap the ball in the goal mouth area then drill one into the open bottom corner for a 4-0 lead. The Capitalists at this point yanked Solenor and put in 3rd stringer Tyler Goreland to try and stop the tide of goals. Despite the Rangers continuing to pound the Capitalist net Goreland was able to keep the Rangers at bay for the remainder of the half. The second half however the Rangers were able to finally get by Goreland. Tie Zonder, who was substituted in at half time for forward Rex Howard, provided the spark, stealing the ball off defender Otis Rancher, speeding through the middle then firing a curving shot that was able to find its way over a sprawling Goreland and into the net for a 5-0 Ranger lead. After this goal the Rangers made more substitutions to allow a number of their substitutes gametime and although they still controlled the ball they did not threaten much for the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, questions are again being raised over virtually the entire Capitalist team. Hopefully they can get their act in order or else they will for sure be facing relegation later on this year.

In other matches today:
Keith Young scored the lone goal in the 76th minute, while goaltender Richard Pottsdown hung onto the shutout as the Great Falls Eagles defeated the Rockyedge Crushers in a close one in Great Falls today 1-0.

The Central Titans scored 3 quick goals in the first half to cruise to an easy victory over the Falconpoint Hawks 3-0.

North Beach Sharks were able to keep even with the Willowbrook Bobcats until the 89th minute when Shawn Peruvo scored the winner as North Beach Park exploded in celebration to give the Sharks the win 1-0.

The Pleasantview Ravens continued their freefall as they lost to the Paradise Dolphins 3-1 at home.

Stornoway Blizzard forward Ullyses Donell scored a goal in the 9th minute and then the Blizzard hung on as goaltender Mike Vander shutdown the OceanHeights Archers to win an upset 1-0 at home.

UPCOMING MATCH ANALYSIS: PARKCOVE At PARADISE EXPECTED TO BE EXTREMELY INTENSE.

Loyalty Bay - Once again it is match day in the Bay Football League and once again we are having a game which could feature the team that eventually wins the league this year.

The Parkcove Rangers hope to walk into Paradise and devour the Dolphins. The match should be quite interesting as we have a goaltending duo between the Rangers' Tim Anthony and the Dolphins' Alex Carrville. Expect a lot of defensive action in this game. Prediction: Paradise by 1

In other matches:

Pleasantview Ravens visit the OceanHeights Archers. With the Ravens still on the mend and in freefall expect this game to become ugly quick. Prediction Archers by a ton.

Downtown Capitalists head to Rockyedge to face the Crushers in a match of weaker teams. Expect Downtown to come out firing in this one since if they lose they will further entrench themselves in last place which they cannot afford. Prediction: Downtown by 2.

North Beach Sharks at Great Falls Eagles. The Sharks are starting to play a bit better but nothing like their ability to win games last year. Expect the thriving Eagles to take apart Shark goalie Peter Locart easily. Prediction: Eagles by a ton.

Central Titans at Stornoway Blizzard. Despite the Blizzard ranking they have not been playing well thus far this season. Look for the Titans to do their best to win early so that they might rest their star players for their Wednesday game against Great Falls. Prediction: Titans by a ton.

Falconpoint Hawks vs Willowbrook Bobcats. Two of the weaker teams in the league thus far. Expect both teams to come out flying and with little to no defense, meaning expect a swath of goals overall. Prediction: Willowbrook by 1.

CENTRAL GRAB FIRST OVERALL WITH WIN IN STORNOWAY.
Jerry Polente scores superb goal off a header in the 85th minute.

Stornoway City - The Central Titans fought a tenacious Blizzard defense before finally overcoming Stornoway goaltender Mike Vander in the 85th minute and then hanging on for the win. The win was extremely important in that, coupled with the ties by the Rangers, Eagles, and Dolphins, Central now finds themself in sole possesion of first overall in the Bay Football League.

The game itself was played in somewhat cooler weather than we have seen for most of the season. Despite Loyalty Bay still being around 20 Celcius (68 Fahrenheit) the temperature in the mountainous region around Stornoway City had dropped to 13 Celcius (55 Fahrenheit) for todays game at Blizzard Field.

The game itself was extremely well fought by both teams with each side having several great scoring chances. At halftime the Titans kept their roster the same while the Blizzard put on forward Chet Zindomere in place of Peter Broadwell to try and get more scoring out of the Blizzard forwards. Zindomere however was ineffective for the his time out there while the Titans started to control the ball and the flow of the game more as the game continued. It was not until the 85th minute however that the Titans broke the 0-0 deadlock. Anthony Lomex took a cornerkick and arched a shot just over most of the players in front of the net. His shot came to rest on the foot of Richard Tucker who blasted a shot that seemed to be arching just wide of the top right corner when Jerry Polente was able to somehow leap in the air and head it just enough that it careened into the top corner for a goal. The Titan fans in attendance were estatic while the Blizzard fans you could tell seemed crushed after the fine performance put forth by their team. The Blizzard did rally for a few shots in the last few minutes including one blast by forward Ullyses Donell that was magically saved by Titan goalie Corey Thistleburg, however time was now the enemy for the Blizzard as it finally ran out leaving the Titans with a 1-0 victory.

In other games around the league:

Rockyedge Crushers finally won their first game of the season defeating the lowly Downtown Capitalists 3-1. Crusher goals were scored by Samson Smith, Joseph Ricktor, and Charlton Vega while Bob Arcedia scored the lone Capitalist goal.

OceanHeights Archers were victorious over the Pleasantview Ravens who continue to struggle after their entire starting forward line went down due to injury earlier this season. Archers scored three quick goals in the first 30 minutes then hung on for the victory. OceanHeights goals were scored by Mike Potvin, Luke Orlando, and Tim Westman while midfielder Johnathan Reese had 2 for the Ravens.

In Paradise the Dolphins battled the Parkcove Rangers to a draw. The Dolphins came out full of vigor as they pounded the Rangers net with shots until in the 16th minute Paul Guelma was able to drill a free kick from just outside the box into the top right corner to put Paradise ahead. The Dolphins then played in a defensive shell for most of the reaminder of the match with the Rangers controlling much of the play while the Dolphins were content to just dump it out every chance they got. This play got them burned however when in the 79th minute a shot from Ranger forward Rex Howard deflected on Paradise defender Gary Nahlin and past a shocked Dolphin goalie, Alex Carrville, to knot the game at ones. The Dolphins went back on the attack for the remainder of the game however Ranger goalie Tim Anthony played brilliant as he managed to hold Parkcove in there so that they were able to leave Island Forum (the Dolphins stadium) with a tie.

The North Beach Sharks kept their word in coming into Great Falls and pounding the Eagles. Shawn Peruvo scored early for the Sharks, in the 23rd minute. The Sharks completely dominated the game however a miscue in the 50th minute gave the Eagles their only goal. Defender Linus Mayhart of the Sharks, under pressure from Eagle forward Craig Ebrahim, passed it back to Shark goalie Peter Locart. Locart however obviously was not expecting the pass and it found its way into the back of the net to tie up the score at ones. Peruvo would later hit two posts to nearly give a heartattack to the faithful at Talon Stadium in Great Falls however at the end the match was a 1-1 draw.

The Falconpoint Hawks, playing at home, were able to battle the Willowbrook Bobcats to a draw in front of a capacity crowd at Falconpoint Stadium. The Bobcats were the first to score with forward Jonus Capstone breaking through the Hawks defense and getting a quick shot through the legs of an out of position Geoff Kirpatrick. Kirpatrick after this miscue however managed to play splendid football for the Hawks for the next 70 minutes while Hawk forward Chester Serontham was able to knot it up in the 33rd minute to give both teams one point due to their 1-1 draw.

CENTRAL TO HOST MATCH OF THE SEASON AGAINST EAGLES TOMORROW.
The Palace will be rocking with fans from both teams in their fight for #1.

Loyalty Bay - The biggest match to date will happen tomorrow in The Palace in the Central district of Loyalty Bay as the Central Titans host the Great Falls Eagles in what is billed as a football showdown of epic preportions. The last two times these teams squared off we have had draws. Expect today's match to be even more intense and evenly matched as both fight it out for first overall.

Great Falls especially will be itching for a win after their recent draw against the North Beach Sharks on Sunday. Expect that their 3-4-3 formation will come out on a massive attack, though the Titans 10 man midfielder formation has proven to be extremely succesful this season thus far. Analysts expect that the game may very well come down to the play of the goaltenders.

Corey Thistleburg for the Titans, and Richard Pottsdown of the Eagles will be watched by millions across the nation as both sides try to get one by these magnificent goalies. Prediction: Eagles will beat the Titans by 1.

In other games:

North Beach Sharks vs Paradise Dolphins: Paradise will no doubt be fuming after their recent draw with the Parkcove Rangers. Expect them to come out with a massive charge and pound the ball past the Sharks goalie Peter Locart often. Prediction Dolphins by a ton.

Parkcove Rangers vs Falconpoint Hawks: The Rangers are a bit happy but a bit unhappy with their recent draw with the Paradise Dolphins. Expect them to come out on fire with forwards Vince Girber and Rex Howard ready to pounce on the Hawks. Prediction: Parkcove by a ton.

Pleasantview Ravens vs Stornoway Blizzard: Hopefully the Ravens can finally tie or win a game. They have been in a desperate situation since they lost their front three earlier this season. The Blizzard however have had an even rougher season. Whoever wins this game will probably use it as a springboard to better there season either way while the loser will no doubt hurtle even further to the bottom. Prediction: With the Ravens at home we have to pick them by 1.

Willowbrook Bobcats vs Rockyedge Crushers: Definetly one of those games that only Bobcat and Rockyedge fans are watching. That said Willowbrook has an exciting brand of football so we are definetly hoping they come out on top of this one especially since they are in front of their home crowd. Prediction: Bobcats by 1.

Downtown Capitalists vs OceanHeights Archers: Definetly the mismatch game of the day. The Capitalists are in danger of going through the first half of the season without a point while the Archers are showing themselves to be even stronger than last year's team. Whatever the odds are for this game make sure you bet on the Archers. Prediction: Archers by at least 5.

DRAGONS ARE BACK!
Legendary rugby squad making noise at the IRL.

INTERNATIONAL - With all the hype at home about the prime ministerial wedding and the Jodoski incident no one is paying attention to the Locke Harbour Dragons though they should be.

The Dragons played their first match in the International Rugby League and were able to come out with a huge 42-12 win over the Mexicana Bulls.

The Dragons came out with a ton of fury as in the opening 3 minutes they were able to rumble towards the opposition 22 before Owen Tucker grabbed the ball off a ruck and barged in for a try. Owen Clarke hit the convert and it was 6-0 for the Dragons before a predominently Mexicana supporting crowd.

In the 9th minute it was the Dragons again, this time off a 5 metre scrum, 8-man Owen Clarke grabbed the ball and plowed through the blind side winger and into the zone for a score to make it 12-0 after Clarke hit the convert.

In the 12th minute the Dragons received a scare however when Greg Hutson collided with a Mexicana player and went down hard. He had to be carried off on a stretcher and although the Dragons are not saying much about his injuries it did look to be related to his neck and spinal area.

Jim Goldstone substituted in for Hutson however the injury to Hutson deflated the Dragons and Mexicana took full advantage of this. Mexicana scored 2 quick tries at the 22nd minute and the 29th minute to make the score 12-12 (after their kicker made both converts) The Dragons however were able to rebound off a penalty play when lock Owen Tucker burst through the line for a try in the 35th minute that with the convert made it 18-12.

Heading into the second half the Dragons blew open the game from the beginning as winger Mark Anderson ran circles around the opposition backs in the 49th minute and into the zone for a try. Owen Clarke unfortunately missed the convert which brought a series of whistles from the primarily Mexicana supporters.

In the 54th minute it was more Dragon running, this time by lock Owen Tucker who again was able to pick up a loose ball in a ruck and rumble into the zone for another try. Clarke missed the convert again and was treated to a lot of jeers from the crowd despite the Dragons now being up by 26-12.

In the 60th minute after a few failed attempts to break past the Mexicana 22 marker, Clarke hit a dropkick from the 30 yard marker to make the score 29-12 for the Dragons. Clarke also was successful on a penalty kick in the 71st minute as the Dragons again strengthened their lead to 32-12.

In the 81st minute winger Kirk Vincent was able to get the ball via an overlap and score with Clarke making the convert to up the score to 38-12.

Finally in the 85th minute winger Kirk Vincent was able to get the ball into the corner for the Dragons final score with Clarke again missing the convert to the whistles of the Mexicana fans. The Dragons however were successful with a final score of 42-12.

BFL: Analysis for the second half of the season.
Who will win this thing this year?

Loyalty Bay - This definetly has been one of the more unusual seasons in recent memory. Parkcove has rebounded from a horrible season last year while Falconpoint is playing worse and worse with every game. So as we crossed past the halfway point of the season we thought we would analyze the teams thus far.

North Beach Sharks: Had you told a Sharks fan that they would have been less than 30 points midway into the season, let alone tell them they were not in first or second they would have tried to have you imprisoned at an insane asylum. However the Sharks have greatly struggled, especially near the beginning of the season. Sure they currently have 24 points now, but you have to compare them to last year to understand what the big disappointment is all about. Last season they totally dominated their opponents, while this season they are just beating some of them. At this time last season they had 32 points. Peter Locart was unstoppable in net last this season while this season he has looked average. Forward Shawn Peruvo has improved but the rest of his team seems to be hanging onto his successes. Currently they are 4th overall and 4 points behind first. They can still reclaim first and win the championship however they will need to step up their play from the first part of the season.

Pleasantview Ravens: Make sure you mark down October 26, 2005 on your calendars as that is the Ravens next meeting against the Great Falls Eagles. At the Ravens Nest in the Loyalty Bay neighbourhood of Pleasantview this game will be no doubt heavily fortified with security and possibly even military units. Backtrack to the 4th game of the season, the Ravens were in first on looking to be on their way to reclaiming glory. Then 3 key injuries to their forwards including a vicious hit from behind by Eagles defender Thurston Kefler on Ravens forward Aaron Jones sent them on a 7 game losing streak. Now the Ravens, with 15 points on the season and with virutally no hope of earning first place, look for revenge on all their enemies. Besides this there is not much else to say about this team except unless their front 3 forwards make a miraculous recovery and come back today they will not even make top 3 this season.

Central Titans: Always a powerhouse this team has capitalized on the mistakes of other teams and leap to the front of the pack at 28 points after Wednesday's games. Looking for their first title since 1984 the Titans still have a far way to go however if their goaltender Corey Thistleburg can continue with his strong play they could surprise most and take the championship this year.

Great Falls Eagles: They wanted to prove last season was not a fluke and they are doing that this season. Tied for 2nd place overall currently at 25 points the Eagles have been battling for the top spot over the past few weeks with the best in the league. How they do over the remaining span of the season is key however. Many question their stamina as the team focuses more on drills in practices then running which may hurt them in the long run this season. Already they have been tied recently by the Willowbrook Bobcats so though while most will note that that gave was a fluke there still is some worry about Eagle supporters that they may fall just short this year despite a strong showing thus far.

Stornoway Blizzard: Currently in 6th place with 18 points this team seems to be on place for another 5th place finish in the league again this season. Unable to beat the strong teams while thumping the weak teams has been the Blizzard motto for the last few years now. Fans of this team however are craving a championship since since their inception they have yet to win the entire thing coming closest in 1964, 1965, and 1966.

OceanHeights Archers: Currently tied for 2nd with 25 points the Archers have the potential to take it all this season. Though their lost against Stornoway on September 28th really hurt their progression up the ranks of the league, they have tied Central and beat the Eagles earlier this season. Expect this high powered offense led by strikers Mike Potvin and Luke Orlando to continue to batter their opposition. Their only question will be how good will goaltender Mike Hosanitz play for the remainder of the season. If he does his job the Archers could very well take the championship this season.

Rockyedge Crushers: Currently tied for 9th with 10 points this team has floundered for most of the season. After holding on for a tie against North Beach and OceanHeights at the start of the season the Crushers have played horrible since with their only wins coming against Falconpoint and Downtown. The Crushers need to play better and they can. Their strikers, Samson Smith and Joseph Ricktor need to start shooting the ball more. Meanwhile their defense has to allow their goaltender more time to set up for shots instead of just coughing up the ball as seems to be their habit of late. Though their quest for championship gold appears almost over they best be improving their game to ensure they do not end up last this season and face the prospect of being the first Bay Football League (BFL) team relegated to the Pearson Cliffs league.

Falconpoint Hawks: Someone needs to do something to turn this once wonderful franchise into a winner again. The Hawks are doing almost nothing right. It took them 4 games to even score a goal let alone win a game. Their team needs a complete overhaul from their coaching to their defense to their forwards. Their 3-2-5 formation is just not cutting it, they need to focus more on scoring and start clearing the ball faster instead of fooling around with it in their end. No doubt they will be eliminated from being able to claim the championship this season though they best be looking behind them as if the Capitalists finally figure out how to win a game it might be the Hawks who face relegation this season.

Paradise Dolphins: In 7th place with 17 points and more competitive than in previous years there is a renewed vigor among the Dolphins this season. Though still 11 points behind first spot, they have been in virtually all their matches this season and are playing an exciting brand of soccer. Though they are likely too far back to challenge for the championship this season their incredible play shows signs of great things to come in future years.

Parkcove Rangers: The Rangers are back! At 21 points and in sole possession of 5th place, Tim Anthony and the rest of the Rangers have proven that they still know how to win. They have already shocked numerous teams this season either tying or winning games including during game day 4 where they took out the Sharks at home to wake the league up to the fact that they were back and ready to take on all comers. Though strong this season they still lack the offense to truly challenge for the championship though it is good to see this quality team back playing competitive soccer again.

Willowbrook Bobcats: Tied for 9th at 10 points the Bobcats have played remarkably well some game and remarkably horrible in others. Still it has been enjoyable to watch as their strikers, primarily Jonus Capstone, go to work on the opposition defense. They still need to work however on their defense if they hope to remain competitive for the remainder of the season.

Downtown Capitalists: Despite their 0-12 record they have not played as poorly as their record might indicate. True that they have played bad, but it has not been due to a lack of skill as with the other weak BFL teams but instead due to a lack of heart. This lack of heart though is seriously bothersome though for the fans. If the Capitalists continue with this lack of heart they might face relegation which if that were to happen would no doubt affect their fan base. Despite the known loyalty of Downtown fans to their team hopefully they realize that if they were to be relegated it will affect their fan base. It will be interesting to see how they do against the Sharks this upcoming Sunday. An interesting tidbit on the side is that if the Capitalists lose this Sunday and the Titans win, the Capitalists are officially eliminated from winning the BFL championship, not that they had much of a change of winning it, based on their play, anyways.

RIGGENS ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
Star keeper awesome in 4-1 in pre World Cup tourney.

INTERNATIONAL - One day after the Brunstone Grizzlies were embarrassed they came back with their number one goalie and smoke the opposition for a brilliant win in the Jeremy Jaffacake Jamboree tournament. Drayce Riggens took his normal starting post in net and provided the type of goaltending that PopularFreedom fans and espeically Brunstone fans are used to as the Grizzlies finally did the nation proud.

The game started off rather slow with neither team getting much in the way of scoring chances. Then in the 25th minute forward Costov Felamora was able to burst through the Praying2God defense and get the ball over the keeper into the net for a 1-0 lead. The lead however was short lived as Praying2God fought back and scored to tie it up in the 30th minute.

The Grizzlies did get some chances near the end of the 1st half though they were unable to capitalize and the score remained 1-1 at the half.

In the second half, forwards Samik Greman and Vadim Plostorinov were replaced by Varlam Atterov and Jorim Jenovik with instantaneous results. At the 47th minute Varlam was able to burn around the side and cross the ball to an onrushing Felamora who smashed the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead.

Minutes later in the 49th minute Atterov again had the ball in the corner after stripping a Praying2God player of the ball. He then was able to crack the defense before lofting a pass over the outstretched hands of the Praying2God keeper and into the top left corner for his first goal of the tournament and a 3-1 lead.

The Grizzlies then played a defensive brand of ball for the remainder of the game with their last goal coming on a breakaway by Jorim Jenovik who was able to steal the ball off a stumbling Praying2God defender and then take it down for an easy score to make the score 4-1 in the 77th minute.

As the game ended both sides congratulated one another on a well fought game. Fans in the stands seemed to also support one another which showed the sportsmanship of at least some PopularFreedom football fans.

Jodoski injured in brawl filled Trebnak vs PopularFreedom match.
Match played in empty stadium after pre-game 'war' in the stands.

INTERNATIONAL - In one of the largest spectacles ever seen by this reporter, the PopularFreedom and Trebnak teams battled to a draw while virutally the entire stadium were brawling with one another.

After days of build up where North Beach Shark fans had been crashing Trebnak games the 'fesitivities' came to a climax in yesterday's game where both groups of 'fans' met one another in full war attire.

Fans could be seen entering the prison football field, location of yesterday's match, in full combat attire. Gas masks, shields, alcohol bottles and lighters, fans were stocked full of weapons and while the majority of it was confiscated at the gate, there was still lots to go around.

From the onset the mood in the stands seemed to be one of unconcern for the actual soccer match in the field and rather a brawl with the fans of the opponents for both sides.

Shark fans were throwing items onto the field, despite the Audioslavia's rather quick response to such actions, trying to hit Johan Jodoski, one of the Trebnak players, and a former PopularFreedom star. Just prior to the actual beginning of the game as the anthems of both nations were being played one molativ cocktail actually connected with Johan Jodoski burning him enough for him to be taken off the field. This action was met by the usual Audioslavia involvement in finding and removing the fan responsible, however not before Trebnak soldiers took liberty to beat the fan as well. Needless to say PopularFreedom fans and soldiers backed up their comrade and from there a full fledged brawl insued in the stands before the game even begun.

Audioslavia riot police were deployed to break up both sides however it took over an hour for things to get back under control. When the game actually was allowed to start the stadium was cleared of fans, though the fans continued to brawl with one another outside while the game commenced.

The game itself was rather a lacklustre affair with both sides not doing much of anything and a 2-2 final ending up as the result. The brawl however may lead to something more serious internationally since many soldiers on both sides were injured in the melee.

WILLOWBROOK TAKES OUT THE RANGERS.
Lewis Smith stymies Ranger strikers in huge upset.

Willowbrook - With 8 games remaining this is not what Parkcove needed and yet alas a hot goaltender for the Bobcats, plus shoddy goaltending from Tim Anthony for the Rangers, and you have a 3-1 final for Willowbrook. The win does a few things for both teams, most importantly for the Bobcats it further helps in assuring them of not coming in last, not that the Downtown Capitalists pose much of a threat anytime soon anyhow of relinquishing that title. The Rangers however fall now 13 points behind the frontrunning Central Titans and further and further out of the running for the championship. The Rangers at the end of the game looked downfallen while Willowbrook fans and players alike were pumped with the win. 'We beat a goalie most others could not', noted a jubilant Bobcat forward Jonus Capstone who scored once during the game. Tim Anthony meanwhile looked distraught after his team fell once again having not won since October 5th.

Loyalty Bay - Raven fans finally had something to cheer about as their beloved team finally defeated a decently ranked opponent. After their shocking loss to Willowbrook last Sunday Raven fans were relieved for the victory over a stronger opponent than the Capitalists, the only other team the Ravens have beaten since they got hit with the injury bug. The Ravens still find themselves 16 points out of first place however and with doctors noting that November is the earliest they will get their starters back expect this could be the only win for the Ravens for a while yet.

Stornoway - North Beach did not need Mike Vander to play his best game of the season against them, that is for sure. As the Shark players left the field after their draw with the Blizzard, you could see them hanging their heads as the failure to win meant they fell 2 further points back of the front running Titans for the championship with 8 games remaning. Now 6 points behind the frontrunning Central Titans the North Beach Sharks played valiantly but were unable to get the ball past Stornoway's goalie until the 79th minute on a Shawn Peruvo deflection off Cam Govardi. Stornoway meanwhile are disappointed that they could not hang onto their 1-0 lead no doubt over the Sharks and likewise lose ground on the frontrunning Titans for first overall with the tie.

Great Falls - The Archers have remained 3 points behind the Titans with their stunning victory over the Great Falls Eagles today in the city of Great Falls. Eagles fans were celebrating a little early when forward Steve Zetter scored in the 18th minute to put the Eagles ahead 1-0. The Archers however came roaring back and by the 31st minute had tied it up. Luke Orlando then put the Archers ahead for good in the 45th minute of the first half. Gus Hamilton added an insurance goal late in the game as the Archers continue to chase the Titans for first overall heading into the latter half of the season.

GAME OF THE SEASON UPCOMING.
Central Titans (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Central_Titans) prepare for OceanHeights Archers (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/OceanHeights_Archers) this Sunday.

Loyalty Bay - The upcoming match between the Archers and the Titans will probably go down in history as the match of the season no doubt. Both teams have survived the fall from the top that most of the top teams have experienced this season and been able to rise above the pack. Now they face each other, if the Titans win they begin to pull away from all teams while if the Archers win then they will tie the Titans at the top with 34 points and 7 games remaining.

The only game they have played this season ended in a 1-1 draw so this game definetly will be exciting with no one able to predict the outcome until it happens. Titan fans will no doubt point to last season where the Titans took both games over the rebuilding Archers however that was last season and this is this season. We examine the teams to see where strengths and weaknesses might exist within both organizations.

Goaltending: Corey Thistleburg of the Titans has made a much more noticeable impact for his team than has Mike Hosanitz but that should not instantly discount the fact that Hosanitz is an outstanding goaltender. Still Thistleburg has yet to lose a game while Hosanitz did have that shocker of a game against Stornoway on September 28th where he did not truly play that poorly, just his rival played perfectly. Either way this Sunday will be a new game so whichever of these goalies can step up their game the most might mean the difference between their squad winning and losing.

Formation: The first thing most non-football fans are going to wonder is why focus on this now. Well it is simple. Look at the Central Titans roster and find a defender or a forward and you won't find any, just midfielders. Again seach the database on where these players play, who scores more than others, and again you will not find much of a difference between players. The Titans have a unique system where players rush up and play offense, and then when tired return and play defensively while the players playing defensively prior are now on offense. The coaching staff of the Titans have worked for years developing this system and it seems this season it has finally paid off in huge dividends in light of their record. Still it is not without its critics especially in light of the fact that most of the players on the Titans are more offensive based than defensive, however whatever the case it makes for exciting games to watch that is for sure. The Archers meanwhile bring an usual offensive assault to their matches as well with 5 forwards, 2 attacking midfielders, and 3 defensive defenders who focus solely on clearing the ball using the long ball technique. Though exciting this formation over a long game can be problematic as players get tired, however thus far it has worked amazingly well this season except in their loss to Stornoway Blizzard earlier in the season.

Overall: The Titans and the Archers both have unique playing sequences which again earlier this season met and ended up in a 1-1 draw. Each team has been able to overcome the opposition meanwhile and so expect Sunday's game to go right down to the wire if they are able to declare a winner.

THEN THERE WERE FIVE.
Five games remaining in the BFL season with the Titans out in front.

Loyalty Bay - Twenty One years is a long time to wait. For rugby fans in the nation it is the entire lifetime of their league. In Loyalty Bay, in the neighbourhood that has forever been known as Central it is something more however. It was in 1984 that the Central Titans last won the cherished Championship Trophy in the Bay Football League. Now in 2005 they stand ready to make that final run for the title with five games remaining.

Six points ahead of the Archers, the Titans need only ten points assuming OceanHeights were to go on a perfect run these last five games. Looking at their upcoming competition it should be doable as well. Wednesday's game is against Paradise Dolphins who need a win to prevent themselves from being eliminated from championship contention. Though realistically the Dolphins are out of the title hunt that will not prevent them from fighting for each piece of turf on the pitch. Expect a hard fight with the Titans expected to actually lose this one. Following that however is Falconpoint and Stornoway, both easy competition, along with Downtown in their last game. That leaves Great Falls on November 13th. Still mathematically in the hunt the Eagles could prove to be the spoiler depending on the situation by then. Either way the Titans should be able to amass at least nine points in their last few games leaving only OceanHeights truly able to catch them.

The North Beach Sharks can at most amass 47 points, 3 less than the minimum projection for the Titans though don't tell a Shark fan that. They still are in delusions that they can win the whole thing and will be to the point they are eliminated. The realists among the Shark fans however might be brought down to earth this Wednesday in their game against the OceanHeights Archers. If North Beach wins then they are still in the hunt, while if the Archers win then they will continue to put pressure on the Titans until most likely the last game of the season.

The OceanHeights Archers themselves could still take the title. If Central loses verses Paradise and Great Falls, both likely scenarios, then the Archers still have a shot but they will have to be perfect for the remainder of the season. That run will have to start against one of the toughest teams in the league the North Beach Sharks. After that they play an easier game against Stornoway before playing the Pleasantview Ravens. The Ravens, unable to do much without their starting three forwards are projecting that they may return that game which would of course just be the Archers luck. Then it is home to host the Downtown Capitalists who could actually pose a threat assuming they still have a chance to escape relegation. Then finally they face Paradise to end the season.

Whatever happens the last five games should definetly be exciting with the Archers match in North Beach definetly the game to watch this week.

CENTRAL CROWNED BFL CHAMPIONS, DOWNTOWN FACES RELEGATION.
Willowbrook plays playoff again Pleasantview tomorrow for 9th place overall.

Stornoway City - Surprising no one the Central Titans were able to win their game against Downtown Capitalists today ensuring the trophy belonged to them for the first time since 1984. On a wet field in downtown Stornoway City the Titans were able to overcome a surprisingly aggressive Downtown squad to win by a final score of 5-3 and clinch first overall.

'We knew there would be a strong chance that OceanHeights (Archers) would win their final game today so to ensure we got the championship we did not let up at all against the Capitalists', noted Titan goalie Corey Thistleburg.

The Capitalists played remarkably well considering they were last overall and will now face the Brunstone Grizzlies from the PCFA to see who joins the BFL next season and who is sent down to the PCFA division later this year.

MESS AT WORLD CUP 25 FOR NATIONAL TEAM.

Loyalty Bay - With the recent revelation that the governering body for football in the nation has pulled their entry and replaced it with members of the premier league pundits are skeptical about the future of the nation at this prestigious event.

'Ridiculous' noted one disappointed Brunstone fan when told of the news that his team would be replaced after their 6-0 destruction at the hands of Sarzonia.

The new team, still be completely assembled was surprisingly able to attain a victory despite the short notice for most of the players. Home games will still be played in Brunstone no changes there but the new coach of the national team, Dennis Viltacore (head coach of the North Beach Sharks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/North_Beach_Sharks)) will have his work cut out for him especially running a 3-4-3 system which he personally is not used to.

'You are talking about a coach who has some experience in international play however he has to get numerous egos together for this thing in less than a day, the fact that they beat Ruventsoria is just outstanding but still do not expect much better results than the Brunstone squad was able to amass', noted one national sports commentator.

Already rumours are ripe on who will be playing on the national team. Shawn Peruvo (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Shawn_Peruvo), of course, is apart of the team and was the only member of the squad to find the net in their first victory as a unit, 1-0 over Ruventsoria. The team that met Ruventsoria doubtfully will be the final team once they hit a few matches and all players arrive from their respected teams in PopularFreedom however for now the following list is who we see as playing for their upcoming games in no specified order:

BRUNSTONE RELEGATED, ANDREW STREETSIDE THE HERO FOR DOWNTOWN.
Last minute replacement scores 2 and sets up the third in 3-1 romp of the Grizzlies.

Stornoway City - The Brunstone Grizzlies played most likely their worse game ever today, losing by a score of 3-1 to the worst team in the Bay Football League, in the first ever relegation match played between the Pearson Cliffs division and the Loyalty Bay division in the joint league.

The match though expected to be close was anything but from the onset. The Downtown Capitalists made a last second change to their lineup, pulling starting forward Bob Arcedia who later was noted to have injured himself in the season finale against Central on Wednesday. In his place was put a young and inexperienced Andrew Streetside.

The Grizzlies, visitors at Billionaires Field in downtown Stornoway City, lost the opening toss and the Capitalists chose to open with the ball. Almost right off the draw the Capitalists marched down the field controlling the ball and the play from the start.

Grizzlies goaltender Drayce Riggens who was still recovering from the slaughter he faced at the hands of Sarzonia in World Cup 25, seemed a bit nervous and out of place on the opening shot in the first minute which grazed his hand and hit the post before bouncing back into his hands. The downtown fans seemed as shocked as the newcomer, Andrew Streetside, to the fact that he had come so close to opening the scoring in his first starting match.

A minute later the Capitalists marched down the field and this time it was Streetside again who took a perfect feed from forward Bruce Donaldo before burying a shot into the net in the fourth minute to bring the Capitalist fans to their feet.

Grizzlies goaltender Drayce Riggens, already shaken by his performance in his last game now was definetly playing out of character as two minutes later Streetside broke in alone and shot a floater towards the net. Riggens went to grab the ball and just plain missed it to the shock of all on the field as it landed softly in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead for the Capitalists in the 6th minute of play.

'Streetside, didn't even see it go in, he just shot a lazy shot and then was running back to cover what he expected would be a goal kick before hearing the crowd explode', noted his exhuberant coach.

Riggens meanwhile was done as the Grizzlies pulled and put in Matar Kimchuk who played decent for the remainder of the game. The Grizzlies however by now were in the hole 2-0 while the Capitalists could afford to sit back and wait for the Grizzlies to make a mistake. Numerous times the Capitalists used this approach and then went on a breakaway though Kimchuk was able to hold his ground until the 33rd minute when Streetside broke through the defense of the Grizzlies with his teammate Bruce Donaldo along with him a few steps back. Kimchuk played the shot as Streetside broke in along the wing before heading diagonally for the box while Donaldo made himself available for the pass. Just as one would think Streetside had committed he threaded a pass over and back to a wide open Donaldo who easily blasted it past an out of position Kimchuk who could only watch the shot fly into the net before he stared at his teammates who were still metres away from even having a remote chance at helping him.

In the second half the Grizzlies did make it interesting off the opening draw getting a goal in the 46th minute from Samik Greman, however the Grizzlies from then on tightened up their defense and started just blasting the ball out of their zone whenever they could until the whistle blew at the 90th minute for a final score of 3-1 for the Capitalists.

WORLD CUP NATIONAL SQUAD NOW 3-0 SINCE REPLACING BRUNSTONE AT WC25.
Defeat Five Civilized Nations in recent triumph at home.

Brunstone, PopularFreedom - After being hit with a hurricane on Friday night, coupled with their team playing a relegation match 800 kilometres away today, one could excuse the hometown Brunstone fans if they choose not to show for today's World Cup match. These fans however are true football patriots happily willing to watch World Cup calabre matches as they came out in droves for today's match.

'How often are you going to see players from numerous BFL teams playing alongside each other', noted one ethusiastic fan. True most of the players playing are substitutes on their teams however you do still have a few noteables including the very famous Shawn Peruvo of the North Beach Sharks.

Today's match again proved that the players on each squad could put aside their personal differences and play as a unit as could be seen after the squad's first two goals.

The first one happened in the 21st minute when Shawn Peruvo (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Shawn_Peruvo) (North Beach Sharks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/North_Beach_Sharks)) took a corner kick and arched a shot over the net to an awaiting Jason Westlake (Paradise Dolphins (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Paradise_Dolphins)) who blasted it right back to a blitzing Peruvo who blasted a shot to the left corner past a mesmerized Five Civilized Nations goaltender.

The Brunstone fans burst in celebration at the goal as World Cup commentators marvelled at the accuracy of the passing between Westlake and Peruvo.

In the 34th minute it was Peruvo and Westlake again, this time Peruvo wove his way through two defenders before popping the ball back with his heel to an onrushing Westlake who made no mistake and targeted a shot into the right top corner for the second goal of the match and a 2-0 PopularFreedom lead.

With the PopularFreedom squad dominating the match coach Viltacore substituted them both off in the second to the disappointment of the fans, though to the benefit of the team as others got some much needed playing time. Five Civilized Nations did rally late in the match scoring a goal at the 90th minute to bring them to 2-1 however by then the match was relatively over.

After the match Westlake and Peruvo both talked to the media about their breathtaking display of talent.

'This is fun, this is what football is suppose to be about', noted a smiling Peruvo.

'Creativity, we both have a ton of creativity, hopefully we can have more games like today to put on a show for the fans', noted a delirious Jason Westlake.

Asked after the match whether he expected more PopularFreedom teams to be put together in light of the success of this 'super squad' over the last 3 matches coach Viltacore shook his head. 'Getting the North Beach Sharks (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/North_Beach_Sharks), and Paradise Dolphins (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Paradise_Dolphins) to work together is not that difficult, but had we had any of the teams that have had brawls recently it would have been an entirely different ordeal. This team works cause there is relatively little recent history between players on this team, get members of the Ravens and Eagles for instance in on this however and that would destroy the chemistry of what is working so well thus far for us'.

DRAKE PETERS ARRESTED IN RAID IN CAMELOT
Situation in the town still far from over.

Victory Union - Covert government forces early this afternoon arrested Mr. Peters without incident inside a government building in the middle of the town of Camelot after a siege of almost 3 months seems to be finally beginning to wrap up.

Unconfirmed reports state that Mr. Peters was arrested by members of his own armed forces who were actually undercover agents for the PopularFreedom armed forces.

Choppers painting in the colours of the Camelot rebel army were seen fleeing from the town over both Camelot and later PopularFreedom forces who have been in a standoff position for months now.

A source within the PopularFreedom army command noted to this news service that PopularFreedom forces had been informed that under no circumstances were they to engage the enemy for any reason during the afternoon hours today no matter what happened. Though our news service was unable to confirm this it would seem that this was Prime Minister Bayda's plan all along.

The Prime Minister has been facing increasing pressure from his own government plus has been dropping in recent polls. These events needless to say will have an impact on his ratings in the polls though with Camelot forces dug in it may not be enough on its own to end the current stalemate.

Hockey (PHL): LOYALTY BAY LOSS COUPLED WITH VISCOUNT BENNETT WIN KNOCKS CRUSHERS FROM FIRST PLACE.

Victory Union - The Victory Union Coyotes relied on their goaltending to help them hang onto a win after taking an early 2-0 lead here early in the first period of play in the PopularFreedom Hockey League.

Centre Mark Hawer was able to get the Crushers close in the 3rd period with a goal at 4:21 in, however after this Coyote goaltender Joseph Kujo shut the door stopping 37 shots to upset one of the powerhouse teams in the league.

The loss by Loyalty Bay coupled with the win by the Viscount Bennett Kings knocks the Crushers out of first place overall in the league.

Locke Harbour wins Silver Medal in Mens Soccer at The Heartland Olympics.
Team shocks the region with impressive showing.

Upper Biswald, The Heartland - The Capital Soccer Association, representing the city of Locke Harbour, PopularFreedom nearly pulled up the unthinkable. After shocking Vlavianos in the 22nd minute with a goal on a corner to take the lead 1-0, the team from Locke Harbour were unable to hang on, with Vlavianos scoring in the 88th minute to win the gold medal game 2-1.

The talk though was the great play of the Locke Harbour team. This team was able to get by numerous football programs including Cherisovia from the Sunbelt region, showing that they may deserve a chance of playing some of the more notable teams in the nation.

Central Titans gear up for match today in Vassfforcia la Serenísima.

Vassfforcia, The Heartland - The Central Titans (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Central_Titans) the Cushman Hawks from Gray Harbour in an elimination match in Vassfforcia later today.

Though not much is known of their opponent, the BFL champion Titans will not take it to easy against an opponent they have yet to face in competition.

'We are the defending BFL champions, so we have to put forth a good showing in this tournament as it is our first chance to represent the nation in over 20 years', noted midfielder Lincoln Knight.

The Hawks play a 3/3/4 type formation so expect a lot of scoring on both sides possibly, as the Titans will use their roving midfielder formation to try and stiffle their opponent.

'The one thing good about the formation we use has always been it is hard to match up against, we are hoping that will again continue in today's match', noted midfielder Jerry Polente.

It is expected that Gray Harbour forwards Randy Howard and Lance Fornier will get the bulk of the attention from the Titan defenders in what should prove an interesting match to begin the tournament.

North Beach Shark, Oro Julieson, calls it a career.
William Welsh meanwhile makes it to the senior level finally

Loyalty Bay - After over 20 years in both the junior and senior levels of the North Beach Shark organization, defender Oro Julieson is calling it a career. Seeing limited action in the last year he decided it was finally time to end an excellent career.

At his prime he was the core of the Shark defense and was apart of 8 championship teams including the 1990-1993 dynasty that drew comparisons to the 1950s Shark dynasty team.

Commenting on his retirement he noted, 'sometimes you have to know when to go before they kick you out. This is an awesome team which will want to recapture their glory from last year so definetly with my age I can no longer be a major part of that so time to let one of the juniors earn my place.'

At this time the Sharks had not announced a replacement for Julieson though had added Welsh to the midfield core from their junior squad. Expect however with so many midfielders and so few defenders that coach Dennis Viltacore should make more moves soon.

Locke Harbour can't cut it at the World Cup, withdraws under protest.
Crummy easterners ruin national name at prestigious event.

International Report - Locke Harbour again proved their ability to embarrass the nation as they withdrew from World Cup 26, under protest over the referreeing in their last few matches.

As reports surfaced in the western reaches of the nation, fans and players alike expressed anger at the decision by the governing body of the sport to pull the team from the World Cup.

A representative of the national champion Central Titans, from the western city of Loyalty Bay, noted that, 'the entire city of Loyalty Bay is disgusted at the actions taken by our football committee to protect the fake footballers from Locke Harbour'.

Though admitting that the referreeing at times had been rather atrocious, most in Loyalty Bay felt that the decision to leave the World Cup before the end would permanently leave a black mark on the nation for all future football tournaments.

In related news meanwhile fans in the neighbourhood of Pleasantview, in Loyalty Bay, rioted last night as word of the boycott of the World Cup was broadcast across the nation. Police were able to quickly disperse the rioters but not before fires were set and many cars overturned by mobs of angry hooligans.

Rioting in the neighbourhood of Pleasantview finally subsides.

Loyalty Bay - The neighbourhood of Pleasantview, for the first time in over a week, has finally had a peaceful night after police were able to maintain full control of the streets.

Part of the reason for this control by the police might be that most of the troublemakers are already in jail. The fact that the soccer tournament that was trying to be put on by Locke Harbour was an absolute flop also help to lessen the rage by Loyalty Bay fans over the past few days.

As fans and team officials alike came to realize the current situation though, with the nation being ostracized by the recent actions to pull Locke Harbour from World Cup 26, most fans seemed to approve of the new situation.

'It's frustrating when you see horrible and biased officiating at the international level when we are used to quality officiating at the national and even regional level', noted one fan.

'Though I am angry with the decision to pull our nation from this event, in a way it is good for the country since there were many times our teams were hurt because of horrible calls in a number of World Cup games', noted another fan.

What is next for the country is unclear though there is some speculation that the city of Loyalty Bay might be trying to organize some type of tournament in the future, though when and with what visitors is yet to be seen.

TOP HEADLINE: RIOTS BREAK OUT IN LOYALTY BAY

Loyalty Bay - After the earlier announcement today that the Pleasantview Ravens under 21 squad would be ignoring the national boycott of World Cup Football events, fans from other teams in the city had begun arriving in massive numbers in the neighbourhood of Pleasantview to voice their displeasure to what they deem as being a powerplay move by their rival in Pleasantview.

Surprisingly absent from the mayhem however were North Beach Sharks fans who seem happy with the Ravens choice, though not for the same reasons as Raven fans were. 'They will see, no matter how bad the refereeing is here, it is 1000 times worse in World Cup events', noted one Shark fan on the streets of the North Beach neighbourhood.

It was unclear which teams specifically were more prominent in the initial clashes between Raven fans in Pleasantview and the others however police, who were already on hand when Raven fans began celebrating in the streets, have already begun to fire teargas cannisters into all unruly soccer fans on the streets of the Pleasantview neighbourhood

We will bring you more in regards to this breaking story as news becomes available.

LOYALTY BAY SEEKS RUGBY EXPANSION FRANCHISE.

Loyalty Bay - The football capital of the nation is seeking to expand its sporting influence by seeking an expansion franchise for next season.

The announcement, made today at city hall, was a joint effort between the local government as well as some outside backers including the city of Camelot, PopularFreedom. Though no statement has been expressed by the PopularFreedom Rugby League (PRL) which is the supreme rugby organization in the nation, it is thought that with the demise of the Rugby Premier League (RPL) that the PRL will look to expand in the upcoming season.

One scenario has two tiers for the league where all expansion squads would enter the second tier and then make their way up to the first tier if they were in the top two spots, while the bottom two from tier one would find themselves in tier two the following season. Though nothing has been mentioned by the PRL in relation to this scenario, all teams have within their clause a proposal allowing for the league to relegate them to a lower tier if they end in the last two spots in the league in a preceeding year. Furthermore, it is widely known that Loyalty Bay has not sought to join the league in past years due to the very fact that there wasn't a second tier where they could work their way up instead of facing the very best teams from the onset.

Whatever happens this expansion announcement should be the first of many, assuming the PRL goes ahead with expansion for next season.

REGIONAL FOOTBALL: TITANS WIN FIRST HARBOUR CUP MATCH.
Defeat Cherisovian team 4-2.

REGIONAL - The Harbour Cup began today for the Central Titans (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Central_Titans) in National Stadium in Aberdeen where they fought their first match against the Cherisovian Bukhor Ravens (http://s4.invisionfree.com/The_Sunbelt/index.php?showtopic=391&st=19) and were successful as they defeated them 4-2.

The match started out poorly for the Titans as Aleksandr Gofurov of the Ravens was able to score a quick goal in the 3rd minute to open the scoring, however the Titans roared back with 4 goals in the first half including a hat-trick by Jerry Polente to take the lead 4-1 going into the dressing room at half time.

Following a serious talk from their coach the Ravens came back pumped and from the onset of the 2nd half they put on a serious performance until they scored their second goal of the match at the 53rd minute to bring them to within 2 goals.

This however was the closest the Ravens would get as the Titans continued to put on the pressure with Evan Samuels nearly scoring his second goal of the game in the 79th minute with a beautiful bicycle kick that clanged off the post to keep the score at 4-2.

When the match ended the Titans and their fans cheered in approval. Tomorrow they face the Ulysses Wizards from Aldeshar where it is hoped that the Titans will continue with their superior play.

GOON FOOTBALL LEAGUE TAKES THE FIELD ONCE AGAIN.

Peace - It's surprising that it has lasted this long yet once again the Extreme Soccer League (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/PopularFreedom_Extreme_Soccer_League) (ESL) has taken the field in numerous cities in the country.

A league promoting a ridiculous adaptation of the game, the pitch is nothing short of an absolute zoo. Fighting, punching, hitting, and all to the cheers of the adoring fans who one can be forgiving in wondering whether they are truly human or not.

We decided to send one of our reporters to a game, to see first hand, whether the rumours were true and they were making a complete mockery of the great game of football. Alas our fears were less than they should have been. In one 30 minute match yesterday, on opening day in the league, our reporter counted at the very least 50 hits by players on their opponents, not even counting the 2 near brawls that occured during the match.

By hits we do not mean the occasional bump, or even a player pushing another player down. Hits would more be attributed to a full out 'charge into and run over a player' type of action. The ESL website in fact boasts that the sport has elements of rugby in it which we find a bit exaggerated since rugby is much more civilized than the match we watched yesterday.

In yesterday's match, one of the teams, the Viscount Bennett Maulers, absolutely dominated the home squad the Peace Vultures, with hit after hit after hit. Not only is hitting allowed it is encouraged as could be heard by alarmed Vulture fans whose only response was a barbaric chant of 'hit him back' which seemed to be the chant of the half hour.

Even the brawl between players which resulted in one player being decked did not earn those involved a penalty as the league deems fighting to be where team members are penalizing their team and therefore not worthy of punishment.

One can only wonder what the effect of such a violent game will have on the youth of those cities involved as there were numerous children in the stands taking in the game. Definetly a most disturbing sight for any civilized parent that is for sure.

CENTRAL TITANS (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Central_Titans) STILL LEAD POOL A IN HARBOUR CUP.
BFL champs defeat Taracco 3-2 yesterday.

REGIONAL - The Titans once again proved strong in the face of adversity after their easy defeat over Taracco yesterday. The Titans, were able to score three quick goals within the first 25 minutes of play, and then coast to victory.

Lincoln Knight started the scoring off for the Titans with an early goal at the 3rd minute mark after collecting a pass from the corner, just outside the box, and threading it home for a 1-0 score.

The Titan fans, who made the trip to see their heroes in Grays Harbour were just starting to celebrate that goal when off the restart, the Titans were able to intercept a pass and break in again to score another at the 4th minute mark to send the Titan masses into jubilation while the Taracco fans could only be seen shaking their heads as they pondered their teams play.

Taracco however was not going to just give up and they came back strong putting pressure on the Titan net. At the 23rdh minute mark, with Taracco now continually pressing, a Taracco shot sailed over the outstretched hands of Central goalie Corey Thistleburg but clanged off the post. The ball came right to Titan Raymond Luwitz who sent a long ball into midfield. Jeff George was able to hustle and outwork the Taracco defender for the ball so that he was all in the open. George then went in on a breakaway on the Taracco net with the Taracco defender and Titan Jerry Polente in hot pursuit. George blasted a rifle of a shot that slammed off the head of the Taracco goaltender, dazing him momentarily, and came back out right onto the foot of an onrushing Jerry Polente who fired a shot into the gaping net for a 3-0 lead.

This third goal seemed to break Taracco who then did what they could to get back into the match however they were unable to break the Thistleburg's shutout until the 85th minute of play. In injury time Taracco was able to get a 2nd goal off a corner to make it interesting however moments later the final whistle was blown ending the match and all thoughts of an unlikely Taracco comeback. Central now finds themselves 2 points up on second place Lavmarok as they face 4th place Green-Ville today.

WESTERLAKE FORCES ROLIS FROM OFFICE.
Third PM in 2 months promises 'stability'

Locke Harbour - In what many political observers are calling a 'shrewd' political maneuver, Deputy Prime Minister Julia Westerlake was able to get her party to hold an emergency meeting last night and force a vote on the future of Prime Minister Rolis as leader of it. The vote, which was unanimous helped to force Rolis out of power and Westerlake into power as the 3rd Prime Minister of the nation this year.

'Most individuals will not understand the process that the Peoples Economic Party had to go through in order to achieve this result', noted political commentator James Collins.

Markets meanwhile reacted negatively on the news with the Locke Harbour Industrial Average dropping by over 300 points.

Despite Westerlake's words of stability, most investors were not happy with the sudden departure of a leader most in the business world looked upon as being business friendly.

Meanwhile in Workers Point, the home city of now deposed Prime Minister Rolis, most residents seemed to be agreeable to the decision. 'He was planning to allow the selling of the Northern Daily News', noted one resident of the city on why she favoured Westerlake taking over.

TRAVEL CHAOS ENSUES AS SOCCER FANS HEAD TO VASSFFORCIA
All roads leading to Loyalty Bay National Airport clogged since early this morning.

Loyalty Bay - 'Stay away!' That is the best advice according to police constable Jeffrey Ward in regards to how to deal with the gridlock that has consumed all roads leading into Loyalty Bay's only national airport after it was announced late yesterday what pools two local soccer squads would be in for the up coming Vassfforcian super league (http://www.freewebs.com/ligadefutboldevassfforcia/lfv2006.htm) season.

Traffic plugs up the PHS-609 early this morning leading into Loyalty Bay National

Within an hour after the initial announcement the airport was crammed with security scrambling after rival North Beach Shark(s) (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/North_Beach_Sharks) fans and Pleasantview Raven(s) (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Pleasantview_Ravens) fans were engaged in numerous battles inside the airport.

'Would have been nice if the Vassfforcians had let us know even an hour before they made the announcement that they were going to make it so we could have had our security forces in place', noted one obviously overwhelmed security agent last night inside the airport.

This morning things were a bit more orderly inside the airport with a heavy police and armed forces presence noticeable from the moment you entered the airport grounds.

'The cops are everywhere', noted one traveller heading from her car into the airport along with a massive sea of humanity. 'It's good though, I saw the mess on the news yesterday and figured I would come today as I figured yesterday would not have been safe despite probably having less of a wait', she later commented.

Though officially schedules of all the matches have not been printed, with the release of the groups for the league many fans have been able to someone get advance copies of the upcoming schedule which has helped to fuel this mass exodus of fans flying towards Vassfforcia.

'Loyalty Bay fans may be crazy, but we are also quite intelligent', noted one fan decked out in yellow and blue. Moments late the fan blasted a trumpet and began to sing which prompted others in the massive crowd in the airport terminal to either sing or jeer depending on what side they were apart of. The noise meanwhile in the terminal itself was deafening.

One security guard noted that, 'on days like today you just expect to lose some permanent hearing', in regards to the massive noise in the building. 'I just hope the security in Vassfforcia are ready for these nuts'.

Vassfforcia - With the Raven fans chanting onwards, the Pleasantview Ravens proved their ability scoring 2 goals early on and hanging on for a 2-1 win over the Delfines de Vassfforcia today in Liga de Fútbol de Vassfforcia play.

The Ravens, were determined not to fall as their counterparts the Sharks did yesterday and used their 3-4-3 formation to perfection, enabling them to play well on offense while managing to get the ball out of the zone on most occasions on defense. The lone goal for the opposition coming in the 89th minute after defensive stallworth, Sam Galloway, had been substituted off due to a yellow card in the 83rd minute.

Coach Calen Sevell noted that Galloway had been pulled not due to any fault of his own, but more in order to ensure he did not receive another yellow and then set his team down to 10 men. Galloway is expected to play next match anyhow.

The Ravens meanwhile, were led on offense by forward Peter Gregg who had 2 goals, one off a beautiful corner that found its way into goal in the 13th minute to open the scoring, then 7 minutes later off a beautiful feed by midfielder Steven Smith that sprung him through on a breakaway. In terms of offense the only surprise had to be the surprising return of forward Jon Douglas to the lineup. Suspended from the PopularFreedom's Bay Football League, it was assumed he would not play for the Ravens until after the 2006 season, however he was dressed though did not appear on the field the entire match.

Next game for the Ravens meanwhile is at home against Ancqad this coming Thursday. The match, sold out minutes after it was first announced, should be quite interesting with the Raven fans coming out in full force to cheer on their hometown heroes.

SHARKS REVIVED!
Peruvo scores pair to lead North Beach to easy win in LFV play.

Loyalty Bay - Whether it was the humidity, or just the fact that they were on home turf, one cannot be certain. Whatever the reason however the Sharks played with passion, winning their match 4-0 before an incredibly bosterous crowd at North Beach Park in Loyalty Bay.

Led by the two early time goals of Shawn Peruvo, the Sharks poured out the offense with their midfielders constantly pressuring the opposing defense into costly errors which allowed North Beach to steal the ball on several occasions. All four goals for North Beach in fact came in the first half with Cam Govardi and Listero Pummelstin scoring the other markers for North Beach which helps to put the team back into contention in group C.

The Sharks next match is at home on July 3rd against the last place Isotopes.

FOOTBALL: SHARKS THROUGH IN LFV, RAVENS MAYBE
Pleasantview Ravens play huge match in Loyalty Bay later this week.

Loyalty Bay - Both the North Beach Sharks and the Pleasantview Ravens have proved themselves capable to play at the regional level after doing quite well in the Vassfforcian Football League.

'Of course we are proud', noted Sharks' coach Dennis Viltacore after his team clinched a playoff birth after their win on Saturday.

The Ravens likewise are in second place in their group however their last match will be critical to their ability to make it into the playoffs.

'Defense first', noted Ravens' coach Calen Sevell on his team's performance, especially in light of the successes of the Ravens' crosstown rival the Sharks. 'They may have more goals for, but they also have more goals against. We have a tighter brand of football which overtime will be the more successful, you will see', noted a confident Sevell.

The Ravens match, at home in the rebellious Ravens Nest Stadium, will be a huge test for the Ravens against the Cumannai Draganad Dohendorta. Both teams with 6 points each will be fighting it out for supremacy with the Ravens picked to have the advantage since they are playing at home.

'Our fans are always a bonus', noted Ravens striker Peter Gregg.

Expect the police presence at the Ravens Nest to be doubled on Thursday from what is normal, no doubt to deal with any of the unruly Pleasantview faithful.

LFV match to begin despite Tropical Storm Ruva pounding Loyalty Bay.
Heavy rain to affect deciding match in Pleasantview neighbourhood today.

Loyalty Bay - As members of the Pleasantview Ravens prepare for their final round robin match in LFV play today, the skies outside opened up and let loose a torrent of rain.

Coach Calen Sevell of the Ravens watched from the press box in Ravens Nest Stadium as the rain poured down earlier this morning as he relaxed before his match this afternoon against the Cumannai Draganad Dohendorta . As he watched the rain pour outside he commented, 'will definetly make today's match interesting'.

With the Ravens in a must win situation (with a tie still allowing the Cushman Hawks to weasel through at the end with a win over the first place Delfines de Vassfforcia) the Ravens were smiling at the fact that it was raining at home though were a bit concerned with the amount.

'Been a while since a big tropical storm hit these parts. We get them from time to time, just it is rare', noted Ravens starting goaltender Edgar Williams.

Meanwhile weather forecasters were advising people to stay home. 'With winds at 65km/hr and increasing this storm may get worse quite quickly', noted one weather meteorologist.

The Liverpool England Hurricane Prediction Centre has noted to expect landfall for the tropical storm sometime tomorrow morning.

'Hopefully that will give us enough time to play this game, win, celebrate, then hunker down at home until the storm passes', noted coach Sevell.

SOCCER: GREGG'S THE MAN!
Pleasantview Ravens (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Pleasantview_Ravens) star striker scores two in 2-0 win over Miraclia's New Cardiff Rovers in Vassfforcian Football League (LFV) (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Vassfforcian_Football_League) play

New Cardiff, Miraclia - Finally, Gregg has gotten on the board! Shut out in the previous matches in LFV play, the star striker for the Ravens finally worked some magic scoring goals in the 9th, and 23rd minutes of play to help the Ravens coast to their 2nd victory in as many matches in LFV play.

'Our fans were getting restless and needed our leaders to step up and they finally have', noted a seemingly relieved Calen Sevell, coach of the Ravens.

The match itself started off poorly for the Ravens with Miraclia controlling the play from the start and fireing 3 shots on net by the 8th minute, however the Rovers, in their zeal to score the first goal were unprepared for the speed of Ravens star striker Peter Gregg.

In the 9th minute of play, Ravens defender Tommy Dorchester was able to pick up a loose ball and long ball it up the field to a speedy Gregg who went in on a breakaway on the Rovers goaltender and made no mistake firing it into the top left hand corner and silencing the majority of Rovers' faithful while the visiting Ravens fans exploded in a unified chant of 'RA-VENS' while drums beated in unison.

The Raven frenzy in the stands became even more euphoric with the second goal by Gregg in the 23rd minute, off a corner by Steven Smith, which Gregg heading past the Rovers goaltender to make Black's Swamp Stadium ridiculously loud.

The second goal seemed to spark the Ravens even more who continued their offensive assault though both teams were unable to score for the remainder of the match leaving the final score as 2-0 for Pleasantview

After the match, both players and fans of the Ravens praised one another. Peter Gregg especially noted his appreciation for the Ravens faithful as he stated, 'despite it being an away match, the Raven fans definetly made their mark, as it was so loud we thought it was a home game at times.'

The Ravens now travel home for their next match against Al-Bahhaar this Friday at the Ravens Nest in Loyalty Bay, PopularFreedom.

FOOTBALL: PLEASANTVIEW RAVENS BARELY BEAT CRESTHAVEN
Pearson Cliffs squad makes reigning champions look sloppy.

Pearson Cliffs: Pearson Stadium was rocking as flocks of Pleasantview fans invaded Pearson Cliffs to watch the first road exhibition game for the Ravens in their buildup to the BFL season.

The Ravens, off a horrible showing in the LFV league in Vassfforcia, proved that once again there are huge questions about their defense as they enter the 2008 season, looking for their 3rd title in as many years.

'There were questions about their defense last year, however this year it has gotten worse', noted football commentator James Wilson.

Defender Bob Kingston is expected to be on the sidelines for most of this season as he still has not fully recovered from a nagging groan strain acquired during the LFV season earlier this year. At 37 years of age, there are questions whether he can ever regain the form he use to have. The Ravens have replaced him with rookie 19 year old Alex Sheppard, however Sheppard has looked questionable on defense in both exhibition games thus far.

Tommy Dorchester and Sam Galloway will also be helping on defense, but they were never that good to begin with.

Right now Sevell has been using his defenders for the full 90 minutes but there are questions on who would replace the three starters if one were to go down.

'Right now they have put no one in their seven subs for their first two exhibitions who is actually competent defensively. Their best defender on reserve is Kingston and with him injured the Ravens are extremely doubtful to even coming close to repeating as champions this season if you ask me', noted Wilson.

Howard fires home a rebound in the 74th minute of play

Still with all that has been said about the Ravens woes, they have two victories under their belt, the latest coming today courtesy a Jeff Howard goal in the 74th minute. 'I have heard all the hype about us not being able to stop goals, but what about the other teams, they can't stop us scoring either', noted Howard after the match.

OceanHeights drove to the net hitting the post in the 86th minute but could not get the ball past Parkcove goalie Tim Anthony to help the Rangers win their second exhibition in as many games this season.

-Willowbrook scored 5 goals in a 5-2 slaughter of the Ridgeway Rams (a team from the Pearson Football Assocation (PFA))
-Rockyedge looked horrible but were able to steal a tie away from the Westview Pitbulls (from the PFA) after Joseph Ricktor directed a header past the Pitbull goalie in the 87th minute of play
-Questions about goaltending remain in Great Falls as Paradise forward Jason Westlake scored 2 goals while all the Eagles could hit was the bar twice to give the Dolphins a 2-0 victory over the Eagles.
-Corresa won their first match in their history as Ted Jones and Aaron Smith scored in the 62nd, and 90th minutes respectively to earn a convincing victory over the Downtown Capitalists.

Falconpoint and Stornoway battle it out to a draw in BFL action last night

FOOTBALL: A TIE YET AGAIN
Hawks and Blizzard unable to figure out how to beat one another once again

Stornoway City - It was a repetition of their first meeting, one side gets the first goal and dominates for a time, the other side responds and then both have their chances but nothing is solved.

In a crucial match for one upmanship, both Falconpoint and Stornoway proved once again that they are relatively even as they finished with a 1-1 tie at the end of last nights tilt.

Stornoway scored their first goal courtesy of a blast from Henry Tynek who after the match noted his suprise that it beat goalkeeper Geoff Kirpatrick. Alas, many felt Kirpatrick let in an easy one here, however there is no doubt that he saved the Hawks in the second half.

Stornoway would go on to control much of the first half play but be unable to put another one by Kirpatrick though came close with a header off the post in the 41st minute.

In the second half it was the Hawks however that came out with more intensity and were able to tie it up early with forward Chase Karkana scoring off a header in the 56th minute to tie it at ones.

Stornoway seemed to press for the go ahead goal after this but were quickly set back when midfielder Lyonell Grenwell was sent off with a red card for a rough slide tackle from behind in the 63rd minute. After this point Falconpoint controlled much of the match but were unable to do much to win the game and had to settle for a one all draw.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/pfsa/2008-07-25-BFL2.jpg
Match Statistics

After the match in the Hawks dressing room, Kirpatrick was asked on his play and whether he thought his performance would open the door to allowing David Bedford to start. He noted however that, 'when you look at the overall picture, I kept our team in the game. Coach will decide as he wishes but today at least the difference between us gaining the tie and losing was due to the defense and our goaltending.'

Meanwhile in the dressing room Grenwall was angry about the referring noting that, 'we had the momentum and the refs took it away from us, I can understand a yellow card for my slide tackle, but a red, come on!'.

It will be interesting to see how both these teams fair over the remainder of the pre-season games.

In other BFL news:
-rumours abound that many of the remaining free agents from the BFL will be signing overseas. Interest has been rampant especially that former Ravens goalkeeper Oswald Roysmith has been getting offers from an unnamed first level club though both him and his agent refused comment

Edgar Williams glances back into the net in disbelief after Corresa scored what would turn out to be the winning goal in their exhibition tilt yesterday evening.

Loyalty Bay - In one of the more historical nights in the 100 plus year history of the BFL, the expansion Corresa Town Crusaders upset the defending champion Pleasantview Ravens by a score of 2-1.

Before a jam packed crowd at the Ravens Nest stadium, Corresa were able to score 2 relatively weak goals against star goaltender Edgar Williams. Both goals throw into question whether Williams is truly playing at 100%, while leaving even more questions for the Ravens in light of their defensive quandry they had found themselves under this season.

Fans of course were shocked by the first goal, coming at the 26 minute mark courtesy Corresa forward Julio Perez. However the Ravens did bounce back with a goal from Peter Gregg, off a cross, in the 42nd minute to level the score at ones going into the half.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/pfsa/2008-07-26-BFL2-1.jpg
Peter Gregg scores for Pleasantview in the 42nd minute to tie the score at ones.

The second half however it was Corresa that came out looking for the win, while the Ravens were in complete disarray. 'The bums were looking for the perfect goal, just shoot the ******* ball...', noted one fan after the match who was obviously disappointed that his team choose to pass it around and in the process a number of times ended up losing the ball.

Finally in the 61st minute Corresa right midfielder John Standing, took a shot from about 25 yards out, with a number of Raven defenders in the area that somehow found its way past the Ravens keeper to make the score 2-1.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/pfsa/2008-07-26-BFL5-1.jpg
Corresa forward John Standing jumps for joy to the left after scoring what would prove to be the winning goal on the night

The goal seemed to complete demoralize the Ravens who were ineffective for the rest of the match, while seemed to turn the Pleasantview crowd down right hostile.

'Yeah we definetly wanted to get out of there real quick after that goal', noted a jubilant Standing after the match.

As the game progressed the whistling and booing and insults started to rain down from the stands, along with tons of debris, as with each failed attempt by the Ravens to score the fans became even more angry and incensed. The last 10 minutes of the match the chant which was more of a roar was in fact 'MOY-SE', refering to Ravens backup goalie Derrick Moyse who many fans prior to the match, and by the end of the match probably all of them, felt was the better goaltender for their side.

At the end of the match police lined the field to try and prevent angry fans from getting onto it while both teams ran to their respective locker rooms, showered by debris at the same time.

As fans left the stadium many started fires and overturned cars though for Raven fans they were to be honest a lot more reserved then normal.

'Had this been a regular season game and not an exhibition, you definetly would have seen a more volatile response from the fans', noted seasoned football reporter Tony Williams of the PopularFreedom Ticker, "I've covered my share of riots in Pleasantview, and trust me, they were extremely civil today, especially in light of the lack of police presence at the game that, in hindsight there should have been'.

Representatives of the Loyalty Bay police department meanwhile, in a written statement after the match, defended the fact that riot police were not on duty noting that, 'this was an exhibition game, against an expansion based team, and therefore it did not warrant a larger police presence until after it was evident that the home side was not fairing to well and that fans might react inappropriately.'

Meanwhile Ravens coaches and staff were unavailabe for comment after the game, skipping the normal media interviews that occur after the match, though did have a spokesperson read a written statement noting that, 'major changes would be forthcoming in the coming days'.

FOOTBALL: DOWNTOWN BATTLES BACK TO EARN A TIE
Willowbrook chokes on 2-0 lead, ends up with 2-2 tie

Stornoway City - With only two BFL exhibitions scheduled for yesterday, the match in downtown Stornoway somehow ended up as the match to watch for most. Then again, of the two matches yesterday it was definetly the better of the two.

Downtown, which at least this exhibition season has given new hope to her fans, were able to pull back from a 2-0 deficit to tie a seemingly much improved Willowbrook team 2-2.

Defensive breakdowns, coupled with questionable goaltending, not to mention missed opportunities by their forwards led to the opportunity for the Capitalists to get back into the match.

Willowbrook collapses in the second half, with Tytor firing home the tying goal with less then 12 minutes remaining in the match

'Definetly we are disappointed', noted Bobcat forward Jack Hanley who had two goals on the night. 'We had them and we let them back into it'.

Meanwhile in Falconpoint, the Hawks in the other late evening matchup, showed some good goaltending behind goalie Geoff Kirpatrick as they were able to stymie the Rockyedge Crushers 1-0 on an early goal by Chester Serontham.

'A lot of people have noted that I have not played up to par so far so definetly a shutout is something I am happy about', noted Kirpatrick after the match.

ALL TIED UP
Final day of BFL daily exhibition madness as teams move to once a week schedules

Loyalty Bay - As Bay Football League teams confirm their starting rosters for the upcoming season, and their reserves, there will be many questions as a few of the teams that were suppose to do well have not and vice versa.

In OceanHeights, two of those teams, the Archers and the Great Falls Eagles faced off yesterday but at the end all both could achieve was a tie.

One thing is for certain however, is that Archer forward Calvin Mayberry is on fire. He scored twice yesterday and would have had the winner except for some shoddy defensive work allowed Great Falls back into it.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/pfsa/2008-07-28-003.jpg

Meanwhile in Parkcove, the Rangers and Stornoway battled each other to a 3-3 tie. Tie Zonder was able to get the Rangers out to a 1-0 lead with a beautiful goal off a perfect cross in the 36th minute however Lyonell Grenwell broke the spirits of Parkcove after getting a header off a corner, moments after Tom Malkovic had robbed the Blizzard by stopping a shot with his foot right at the line.

Henry Tynek would then, after Wendel Karos scored an own goal in the 56th minute, would roar back and score goals in the 58th and 69th minute to help Stornoway take a 3-2 lead.

However Zonder again would be a hero for his team and for the hometown faithful scoring a goal off a cross in the 89th minute of play to tie the game for the Rangers.

Athens - A busy day in football across the nation started in Athens yesterday as the city announced that they would be joining the new Pearson Football Association in 2009. In the Caballos verses North Beach match, it would take only 22 minutes for Caballos to get on the board with F.Rossi scoring with a blast from just outside the box. In fact the first half seemed to indicate that Caballos would be dominating this match after also hitting the bar off a free kick.

In the second half however it was North Beach who would dominate, ringing a shot off the post before Johan Jodoski headed a corner into the net to tie up the match at the 49th minute.

North Beach almost pulled ahead after Shawn Peruvo acquired a rebound in the box, however Caballos defending stymied that effort as a Caballos defender blocked a sure goal from Peruvo to keep the score level.

The game, a very entertaining affair, ended up as a 1-1 draw. After the match there were hints that the Sharks would be looking at the match and possibly changing things up a bit for their next exhibition, at home this Sunday. 'We have to look at the team as a whole,' noted coach Dennis Viltacore. 'We have had problems scoring two of the last three games plus our defense is still suspect. FOOTBALL: DOWNTOWN FOR REAL THIS SEASON
Capitalists take down Falconpoint in exhbition play yesterday

Stornoway City - Downtown says it is for real this season, and it is possible they are finally right. Though the last place champions for the basically the last decade will doubtfully be able to beat teams such as North Beach and Central, their play against other teams almost makes one believe that this season they will actually pull out of the basement.

Then again with bad boy Andrew Streetside showing up to practices and games on time, and sober, anything is possible for the Capitalists this season.

Last night again, they proved themselves capable of taking down an opponent while on the road and put on a defensive and midfield clinic in the process.

True, their are questions about Falconpoint this pre-season, however with Downtown beating Great Falls twice this pre-season already, there is not doubting that Downtown is preparing to leave the basement for good.

Yesterday on a rain soaked pitch, Downtown, powered by a Bob Arcedia blast from the top of the box for a goal in the 22nd minute of play, were able to defensively shut down the Falconpoint Hawks for most of the match.

Bob Arcedia celebrates after scoring what would turn out to be the game winning goal in Falconpoint yesterday

In fact with the Hawks only acquiring 3 shots during the entire match, the midfielders of the Capitalists have to be given a lot of the credit for the victory as well.

'If you are constantly coughing up the ball in the midfield, you cannot produce good attacks', noted famed reporter Tony Williams.

Match Statistics

The Capitalists, who have no further exhibitions scheduled before their August 25th season opener, hope to be able to use the momentum gained from the pre-season into the regular season.

'We're tired of losing', noted Arcedia after the match. 'This season we are determined to stop that trend', he later commented. Definetly the Capitalists, unlike seasons past, are on the right track to accomplish that goal it would appear.

FOOTBALL: FRANK WILSON FIRED AS COACH OF THE FALCONPOINT HAWKS
Assistant Justin Chapman takes over head coaching duties

Falconpoint, Loyalty Bay - The Hawks will have a new coach heading into the 2008 Bay Football League (BFL) season. Head coach Frank Wilson was fired this morning, this after his squad lost an exhibition to the Downtown Capitalists yesterday by a score of 1-0.

The Hawks have not seen a successful season since 2003, and have been horrible under the tenure of Wilson.

With the BFL season beginning in three weeks, the firing comes at an unexpected time though a spokesperson for the Falconpoint Hawks noted that, 'we were tired of losing, and the loss to Downtown made us believe that we needed to have someone else steer this club this season'

Though it is unclear whether the appointment of Chapman to the head coaching role was permanent or not, with him having a more attacking style, it will make things interesting for the Hawks going into this season.

FOOTBALL: BAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEASON TO BEGIN TODAY
North Beach heavily favoured in Loyalty Bay division

Loyalty Bay - The Bay Football League season kicks off in 8 stadiums today and tonight as the best of the best battle it out for the most prized trophy in all of football today. We look at the 16 teams vying for the title, and what to expect from them this season.

Brunstone Grizzlies (Heartland division): They did not do much in the offseason so expect them to be near the bottom again this season. Financially they are in good shape so it is unclear why they are not going all out for transfers having acquired only former Harbour Sharks forward Martin Young who will no doubt spend the season on the Brunstone bench. Prediction 8/8

Caballos Salvajes (Heartland division): With a successful LFV season behind them, expect this team to partially dominate their division in the BFL this season. Last season they ended up 11th out of 16 teams in the entire BFL, this season should be a lot different. With Great Falls and Zulfia not ranked as highly as they were last season, this team could in fact come out of their division on top. Prediction 3/8

Central Titans (Loyalty division): With the Loyalty Bay teams now in their own division, the competition will be fierce. Central looks to be on the top of their game so expect big things from them this season. Added a number of prospects however with them swtiching formations this season and still have primarily midfielders on the team, it could cost them a few close games overall. Prediction 2/8

Corresa Town Crusaders (Heartland division): They beat Pleasantview already this preseason and was the only local team that beat a visitor in a number of international exhibitions over the season, so expect a bit more bunch out of them then your average expansion franchise. Still they will not be able to compete with the best in this division however do expect them to do rather well for an expansion team in their first year. Prediction 6/8

Downtown Capitalists (Heartland division): It will be interesting to see what impact rookie Tom Glenshaw has on this team. A new coach plus Andrew Streetside is back to his old form so expect this team to finally escape the basement this season. Prediction 5/8

Falconpoint Hawks (Loyalty division): Ranked 13/16 last season they were the worst of all the Loyalty Bay teams, expect much of the same this season. They switched to a more defensive formation this season though with the defenders they have it would change much. Jet Dillan should provide a bit of flair on offense however they are definetly in the wrong division for their level of skill and will pay for it. Prediction 8/8

Great Falls Eagles (Heartland division): With no movements over the offseason, except for one transfer in the last week, this team has not improved at all since last season. Sure they were 5th out of 16 teams last season but most teams in the league have gotten better, they haven't. Losing twice to Downtown in the preseason does not help either, they're just lucky they are in the Heartland division. Prediction 4/8

North Beach Sharks (Loyalty division): What possessed them to reacquire Johan Jodoski is beyond anyone, however now they are without question the best team on paper in the league. Expect them to dominate their division and crush whoever they face from the Heartland division in the final. Prediction 1/8

OceanHeights Archers (Loyalty division): Having won their first tournament in over 50 years might have been a horrible thing for this team. They played horrible in the LFV and will probably continue that trend here in the BFL. With no movement in the off season either expect them to do poorly and even earn a few losses against the bottom feeders in this division. Prediction 5/8

Paradise Dolphins (Loyalty division): A new formation might make things interesting for this team, however with the same lack of talent compared to the other teams in this division expect them to not do well. No real talent acquired over the off season will not help much either. Prediction 6/8

Parkcove Rangers (Loyalty division): They did not do much in the offseason though new forward Jim Tiso might help off the bench. Still they needed to land at least one transfer to really break though and truly hope to contend as with Central and North Beach in their division, they do not currently have the lineup to beat them. Prediction 3/8

Pleasantview Ravens (Loyalty division): They will not three-peat as BFL champions this season. Many will note we predicted the same thing last season and they won anyhow, but this season is different, their defense had holes last season and has even more this season. They have tried to patch those holes with midfielders, plus changed their formation a few times during the pre-season, however losing to Corresa should show all the teams in their division that anyone can beat the Ravens this season. Moyse will do well in net, but not nearly enough to save this sinking ship. Prediction 4/8

Rockyedge Crushers (Loyalty division): Another season, another disappointment. Having been stuck into the loyalty division based on their location, they might as well just accept their fate. Then again, having not won a title in 59 years, their fans will believe just about anything. Four new prospects joined the team over the offseason. All four are good enough to warm the benches but that is about it, so if you hear a Crushers fan talking about championships and glory, just smile, nod your head, and recognize a dreamer when you see one. Prediction 7/8

Stornoway Blizzard (Heartland division): The team with speed just grew a year older, and therefore wiser. Expect them to partially dominate their division this season and just lose out to Zulfia for a trip to the finals. Then again, if their two new prospects do well it might be them heading to the finals instead of their Vassfforcian rivals. Prediction 2/8

Willowbrook Bobcats (Heartland division): Probably the hardest team to forecast how they will do, they occasionally show skill and expertise better then any team in the league. Usually however they are a comedy show of errors. Expect new coach Lance Ellis to crack them into shape, while it will be interesting to see whether Edward Robertson continues his scoring binge from the off-season. Still, these are the Willowbrook Bobcats, who usually have bursts of glory only to settle into droughts of miserability, so to rank them highly would be in error. Prediction 7/8

Zulfia Fishers (Heartland division): They lost in a heartbreaker to North Beach in the LFV playoffs, so expect one thing on their mind this season, revenge. They will no doubt dominate their division this season and except for a surprise from Caballos or Stornoway should earn a birth at the final at the end of the season. Prediction 1/8

The season and teams are set. Expect the usual riots in Pleasantview, the usual wierd upset by Willowbrook, and Downtown to disappoint as usual. Expect also some great matches to unfold over the course of this season. BFL 2008 starts today!

FOOTBALL: WILLOWBROOK TIES CABALLOS TO START OFF THE BFL SEASON
Only real surprise of the afternoon as BFL starts off with plenty of scoring

Willowbrook - The BFL started off with a lot of action and a swath of goals, however the only real surprise happened in Willowbrook where the Bobcats opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, then hung on for a tie against Caballos.

Caballos, picked by some to win the come out on top of the whole league, looked sluggish until the first goal, after which they went on a shooting rampage.

The first goal however was a thing of beauty with striker Edward Robertson sending in a picture perfect pass to Jack Hanley who headed the ball into the corner to open the scoring in the game.

After the match Robertson was still awash in a glow as he spoke with reporters. 'They said this team could win it all and we were able to get a tie with them so of course we feel good being able to do it in front of our home fans', noted Robertson.

Willowbrook, who were picked to be dead last in their division by many sports writers across the nation, but who are also known to be a team that has upset champions and potential champions in the past, once again rose to the challenge by leaving the superior team with only 1 point to show for their efforts.

In regards of being outshot, Robertson noted, 'I really do not care if they doubled our shot output, at the end we got a tie and for me that is all that counts'.

FOOTBALL: SHARKS WIN, EAGLES TIE FISHERS, PLEASANTVIEW RIOTS
Bay Football League finishes week 3

Loyalty Bay - As the dust settled from eight more matches in the Bay Football League (BFL) sports analysts again have begun to speculate on the future of the 2008 season for all 16 teams in the BFL.

Though most results were expected, there were a few that came as a surprise to some. The Eagles and Fishers, who combined for 16 goals in their first two games combined to shut each other out 0-0. Paradise beat Parkcove 1-0 though there is much debate on whether Paradise truly won or Parkcove was the one who just lost. Rockyedge hammered Falconpoint 5-0 highlighting who will be the basement dweller in the Loyalty Bay division this season. North Beach beat Central with a convincing 3-0 score which says a ton about the skill of the Sharks this season, and that of the Titans. Most surprising however was OceanHeights over Pleasantview 4-1.

Sure, riots in Pleasantview, no surprise there after the game, however it is clear that the fact that the Ravens lost to the Archers, and by such a large score, points to them not repeating as champions this season.

Many in Raven land will no doubt point to their team and note it was one poor effort, however they have nothing left to offer. Their goaltending is inconsistent irrelevant of who they put in net, and their defense is just horrible. True, the Archers are one of the stronger teams in their division, however what happens when the Ravens face a team like the Sharks this season.

Some are in fact already saying that the Loyalty Bay division is already won and that the true competition is in the Heartland division. Though there is some credence in that viewpoint the Loyalty Bay division is not won quite yet. Expect the Archers and the Ravens to put up quite a fight while the Dolphins could lay another surprise on, assuming you are of the mindset that they indeed did win the match (as opposed to Parkcove losing it) on Sunday.

Then again, with no Zulfia, no Caballos, no Willowbrook, and no Stornoway in the Loyalty Bay division, the Sharks might just get to relax for the majority of the season.

Then again, it is only the end of week 3.

FOOTBALL: GREAT FALLS DOES THE UNTHINKABLE, WINS BFL TITLE
Eagles shut down North Beach to win their first title since 1995!

Loyalty Bay - Fans of the Eagles will tell you they told you so, that their division was the tougher division, however until they beat the Sharks no one would ever believe them, believe now however.

Great Falls Eagles after winning what some in Loyalty Bay, referred to as the 'B league' defeated the highly favoured North Beach Sharks in North Beach today to win their fourth BFL title, and first in over 10 years.

The Eagles were able to capitalize on their scoring chances while shutting down the high powered offense of the North Beach Sharks for most of the game.

The game itself was relatively even during the first half with Great Falls opening the scoring in the 30th minute when Owen Wright acquired a rebound and shot it into the net to stun the home crowd.

North Beach however were determined to not allow the Eagles to pull away with Johan Jodoski hitting the bar, before acquiring the ball and putting it home to tie up the score at ones in the 35th minute of play.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/pfsa/Final-002.jpg
Wright scores his second of the match to send the Eagles up 2-1

The Sharks' defense however, with four minutes of injury time left in the first half, relaxed a bit more then they should have allowing Wright again to make his way in, acquire another rebound and slide it into the back of the net to give the Eagles a one goal lead again.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/pfsa/Final-001.jpg
Results at halftime

At the half, the teams were relatively evenly matched in terms of both shots as well as possession time.

In the second half, the Sharks began to press hard with shot after shot, however goalkeeper Richard Pottsdown shut the door. With the help of at least one post, not to mention a very well timed offside, the keeper preserved his team's fragile lead under a monumental shot barrage by the North Beach Sharks.

When the final whistle blew, the Eagles were seemingly relieved at first before they burst forth in celebration at their accomplishment. The Sharks meanwhile could only grit their teeth in frustration at having almost triple the shots as their counterparts but being on the losing end of the final score.

Congratulations to the Great Falls Eagles, the 2008 Bay Football League champions. Congrats as well to Eagles' keeper Richard Pottsdown, the BFL 2008 FINAL MVP.

Always a most controversial, picking North Beach (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/ns2008.htm) as number 1 is a no brain move. Sure they lost the championship this season, but they did not lose many quality veterans, furthermore they have a lot of good youngsters coming into the organization that should give them quality off the bench when they need it.

Central (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/ct2008.htm) we put second primarily based on the fact that John Hunt along with their 10 roving midfield concept is gone. Watch their play at the currently ongoing Biswald Cup as it might be a good indicator what to expect from them come BFL time.

The Ravens (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/pv2008.htm) did the unthinkable and traded player for player, however in the end they get a youthful defender who was more skilled, which is what they needed. Sure they still need one more quality defender so that they can switch to a 4-3-3 system however their willingness to sacrifice a good forward in Ian Gilbert to try and improve their defense shows their willingness to at the very least better their weak link.

No doubt, anyone but a Rangers (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/pr2008.htm) fan seeing this team ranked 4th on this list, after their 13th place showing this past season, will no doubt relegate this list to the scrap heap, however hold on just a moment. The Rangers have a crop of youngsters coming into camp that could very well give them what they need off the bench. Then again maybe not. We were skeptical about rating them this high to be honest however in light of the skilled players they have on the team we suspect many teams will not take them seriously in 2009 which will help them have a good season.

Great Falls (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/gf2008.htm), the defending champs rated 5th, just shows our sentiments on the game, they got lucky. They are a great team, however compared to the first 4, yes including Parkcove, they cannot compete.

OceanHeights (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/oa2008.htm) still has sloppy goaltending else they would be a lot higher. Their offense is amazing however you can only do so much when your defense and goaltender make a match closer then it really needs to be.

Caballos has yet to do anything this offseason which is bad. If they make some moves then they should be able to compete with even the best in the BFL, but with everyone else improving and they staying stagnant so far, they deserve this ranking.

Stornoway (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/sb2008.htm) goaltending makes OceanHeights goaltending look good. Again, if this team can land a goaltender they can compete with anyone and everyone, until then though expect them to do okay, but that is about it.

Willowbrook (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/wb2008.htm) managed to land a huge free agent signing in Roque Vargas near the end of the 2008 season so expect this team to be better then they were last season. Still they have holes at goaltending among other places they need to fix, however as usual, expect them to spoil someone's run for the championship.

Zulfia when they first entered the BFL was the most feared team in the league, even more so then the Ravens, the Titans, or the Sharks. Since then however their team has lost a lot of its edge. They need some new talent, or new fire to get their players going again. Assuming they get some new talent, expect their ranking to improve over the season, otherwise it is well earned

Rockyedge (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/rc2008.htm) still has no offense and therefore, despite having an okay team overall, are a league below the top 10.

Paradise (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/pd2008.htm) should be thankful they have Carrville as without him they would no doubt be fighting with the expansion teams to stay out of the basement. If they were smart they would sell off all their talent 30 years of age and older and rebuild. Then again that is what they have been supposedly doing for 30 years or so so maybe they need to figure out how to do that first.

Falconpoint (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/fh2008.htm) has Jet Dillan, and that is it. Oh wait, they have goaltending as well. With the population they have in their jurisdiction they really should have a second youth team as they current youth program is crap for the most part.

With Downtown (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/dc2008.htm), they have yet to do anything in terms of acquiring real talent, and their goalie situation is still questionable at best so we suspect they will get worse rather then better this upcoming year.

Tesla United (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/tu2009.htm), despite not making as many moves as the Lenita Lions seem to have the better coaching and therefore get our nod as the better of the two BFL expansion teams.

The question the Lenita Lions (http://www.freewebs.com/bayfootballleague/ll2009.htm) need to ask themselves is how do they expect to use a limited budget to get anywhere in the BFL. Had they been smart they would have invested in a junior program and waited a few years to be good, not hire a bunch of almost was good 20 years ago veterans. Expect them to hold the bottom of the league position for quite some time.

In the PFA, we have to vote Locke Harbour (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/lh2009.htm) as 1st. Getting the top goalie from the former CSA was a major coup, not to mention a few veteran players from that league. It will be interesting to see who if anyone can upset their run at the tier 2 cup.

Workers Point (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/ws2009.htm) got themselves a really good goalie. Sure not normally enough of a good reason to vote them second, however when compared with the other teams in the league, coupled with the other assets that the Steelers have, it might be just enough to win them first in the North Division.

Sifton (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/sr2009.htm) got a good player and a great player for a great player today in their blockbuster deal with the Ravens of the BFL. Expect Gilbert to light up the PFA as a result.

Cliffstone (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/cc2008.htm) has been improving little by little so expect them to be competitive in the PFA this season. The new stadium will no doubt also help player and fan morale when they again come just short this season no doubt.

Miprate (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/mf2009.htm) would no doubt have the best team in the league but has an inferiority complex in relation to their proximity to Locke Harbour. With the Wolves having a better team this season, expect Miprate to do well, but not as well as they could have had they been in the other division.

Corresa Town Crusaders (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/ct2009.htm) are probably ranked lower then they will be at the end of the season, however they have one huge flaw with their team. Except for Smith, their team cannot score. Also, the loss of Lee to retirement on defense hurts them and they need a replacement there. No doubt they should get some players to hopefully help them in both areas however at the moment at least it is hard to see who they can get that would make an immediate impact.

Athens United (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/au2009.htm) were able to rip off Ridgeway near the end of the 2008 season with a number of deals, however since then they have been outbid regularly by other teams for players. Expect them to fair well but not well enough unless they can get a few more players to help their team this season.

Westview Pitbulls (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/wp2008.htm) are the defending champions however that was before the league expanded from 4 to 16 teams this season. They still have a good club, just nothing that can compete with the majority of new teams and talent that are coming to the PFA in 2009.

Brunstone Grizzlies (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/bg2009.htm) have a number of holes to fill after a number of retirements at the end of last season. Having been slaughtered on a regular basis in the BFL, it is nice to return to a league where they can compete. Alas, this season will be tough for them though with their only truly skilled player, their goalie, not being enough to stop the competition the majority of the time.

Victory Union (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/vu2009.htm) are rated 10th based on the players they have signed thus far. They need to sign more to be competitive, but then again they need more money to do that so expect them to not earn a hiring rating then this.

Laurier (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/cm2008.htm) have made some changes, however what they really need is a junior team. To be honest, their new general manager is the reason why the Harbour Sharks went bankrupt last year so right now we just need to hope that they make it through the season financially sound.

Viscount Bennett (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/vb2009.htm) right now are in a quandary, do they improve their team now and screw up their future so they can compete against their rival Sifton, or do they invest in a junior program and give their squad 5 years to be competitive. Hopefully they will be smart and choose the latter or else they might be ranked higher this season, but in the future they will massively suck.

Ridgeway (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/rr2008.htm) was forced by the league to sell one of their players earlier this month in order to pay its bills, so needless to say their financial mismanagement still shows signs of creative incompetency. To be honest they should be in last except 3 of the new teams show signs of studying their concept on how to run a football franchise.

Ace Flyers (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/af2009.htm) are the best of the worst. Having made a few moves, they still are lacking at basically all levels and with no real population to draw from it is amazing that they were able to acquire the players they currently do have.

Teres Saints (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/ts2009.htm) have made a few moves however all of them have been extremely minor so do not expect much from them.

We put North Bay (http://www.freewebs.com/pearsonfootball/nb2009.htm) last, however they might earn 15th or 14th spot depending on how things might work, either way they along with the Saints and Flyers in most cases would lose to all the BJFL teams let alone real teams.
