TACTICAL NOTES [provided so that if you RP before I do, you know roughly how I play]
The offensive coordinator likes to mix things up with varied formations, but often uses Minajato's powerful running from HB as a safe source of yards especially on third-and-short situations and near the goal line. The TEs - usually with Yuzaglin blocking and Mujaisek receiving - are among the team's strongest players and hence the FB is marginalised, usually used as a lead blocker inside the 20.
On defense, the team's base formation is the 3-4. The OLBs and DEs often blitz from the outside to put pressure on opposing QBs, and the DBs tend to play zone coverage. This defense won't force many fumbles, except maybe on the QB, but will probably get a few picks.

NS-Bowl Squad Announced

After the success of the inaugeral Bettian League Of Gridiron (BLOG) culminating in a thrilling 17-10 victory for the Subarnas Volcanoes to clinch AroraBowl I, the country's gridiron fans have been waiting impatiently for their national squad to go out and do the business.

That wait is almost over.

The BLOG has announced the 44-man squad that will journey northwards to Hockey Canada to compete in their first international tournament. Facing them in the group stages are Oliverry, Elrich, BlueTiger and The Velkyn Union. It should be tough seeing as though our beloved Aroras never played anyone at this level, but it'll be pretty interesting nonetheless. Indeed, Oliverry are the only ones in this group to have a domestic league (as far as this reporter knows), so they'll probably be favourites to progress.

Predictably, the majority of the squad are taken from the Subarnas Volcanoes and their beaten AroraBwol oppoents, the Akani Sands Destroyers, with the rest largely made up from other teams who made it to the knockout rounds. The exception to this are the Fiilghud Chargers, who despite an excellent season were denied a place in the playoffs simply because they had the misfortune to be in the same conference as Subarnas and Sukatra, two of the best teams in the country.

So who are the lucky 44 chosen to plunge headlong into the frozen north to represent our nation decked out in the famous green and gold?

Gondeau 0 1 0 0 27 43

What a great kickoff we had for those two games. Euroslavia showed real class over newcomers Gondeau while number one ranked Turori battled to a low-scoring affair with New Montreal States.

Group 3 was pretty entertaining itself when Vilita headded off against hosts Hockey Canada. Not to mention West Pacific against Yafor 2. Scores will be up soon, as in 5 seconds.

Wow, we thought the odds of a draw were slim enough, but two in one group on the same day is 1 in 2,427. West Pacific and Yafor 2 share the Karelan Wooden spoon, but for how long?

Group 5 on the other hand is looking to be pretty big. Kaze Progressa and Tonissia, two potential powerhouses hitting each other with all they got. The Candrian Empire and East Lithuania game suggested East Lithuania would hammer the newcomers. But only time would tell. 5 seconds actually.

Kaze Progressa- 0

You wouldn't think Kaze Progressa would be bottom-feeders this early on did you? Not a chance but it can happen sometimes. Tonissia is sitting pretty as they laugh from on top.

In the end it was a comfortable victory for Tonissia as the Progressans were thoroughly outclassed in a 17-0 defeat. The offense plainly never looked like scoring, except when Yateri Maurto-Akinsevi fell just short with a 46-yard FG just before halftime. By then, the 'Hokies' had firmly taken control - their run-first offense wore down the Progressan defense, and with the Progressans keeping faith with a 3-4 defense the Hokies were dominating at the line of scrimmage. The Progressans tried changing things up with a switch to a 46 on short yardage situations, but in one such situation - 3rd and 3 on the 50 with 1:54 left in the first quarter - WR Tim Bunny Jr was left wide open and once he received Vik's quick pass, he was off to the races.

A superb defensive performance from pretty much all of the Hokies was summed up by Arista Jatuyi taking five sacks and completing less than 50% of his passes. He was replaced in the third quarter by the speedy Quaza Quimtaji, who actually gained more yards through rushing (67) than passing (60) in his time on the field. Not that the Progressans ever threatened to score - they did not even have a single red-zone possession, Quimtaji fumbling on the opposition 23 after a 10-yard scramble early in the fourth quarter. That fumble was returned for a touchdown, and a bruising series of power runs by Leyden Sugs in the final minutes allowed the Hokies the luxury of finishing the game, already 14-0 up, with a 39-yard FG that was successfully converted. It couldn't have gone worse in the opener - but things may change. After all, it was their international debut.

Aroras Edged Out In Thriller

Oliverry 13
Bettia 10 (After Overtime)

Bettia made their NS-Bowl debut here in Hockey Canada, and gave a very good account of themselves against their more experienced opponents.

Oliverry got into their stride a lot quicker than our heroes, and were 3-0 up after ten minutes through a well-struck 34-yard field goal.

However, Bettia's attacking style started to come to the fore and they got their first touchdown of the tournament five minutes into the third quarter after a 67-yard attacking drive. From a 4th-and-goal situation on the 5-yard line, Geraint Al-Shahaf handed the ball over to his Volcanoes team-mate Yanto Samir who was able to find a gap in the defensive line and dive over the goal-line to put the Aroras 6-3 up, which shortly became 7-3 after Jamal Khalil kicked the conversion.

The Aroras increased their lead towards the end of the quarter through a Khalil field goal. Unfortunately they couldn't hold onto their lead, as Oliverry stormed back on level terms thanks to a 32-yard run from their left wide receiver. At 10-10, Oliverry piled on the pressure looking for a late score to snatch the game but were unable to do so as Bettia hung on to take the match into overtime.

That overtime lasted for almost ten minutes as both teams traded possession. Bettia had an excelant opportunity to take the win after four minutes, but Khalil's optimistic field goal attempt from 45-yards fell just short of the posts. Oliverry made no mistake, slotting over a field goal after 9:54 of overtime to finish victorious.

And so the Aroras head into their next match with no points on the board, but with heads held high after this confidence-boosting display.

West Pacific Draws with Yafor 2 - Tied in four way split for the number one spot.
Vilita and Hockey Canada tied after a spectacular offensive battle.

The first day of the Nationstates Gridiron Bowl VI is over and West Pacific is in a four way tie for first in their group after both games ended in double overtime draws.

West Pacific's defense lived up to the hype as they shut down the Yafor 2 offense, only allowing 3 first downs on 53 yards passing and 36 yards rushing. West Pacific's best chances to score came when Nate Fluit intercepted a pass on the 47 yard line and ran the ball back for a TD untouched only to have to called back for an illegal block. On the following drive Tyrone Rhone threw the ball to a wide open Mark Blackburn but the ball was overthrown and the it slipped through the fingertips of Blackburn, West Pacific was then forced to punt the ball away. Yafor 2 nearly won in overtime when their 47 yard field goal sailed wide right.

The Tonissia Hokies scored last and got a two point conversion after the initially blocked PAT to beat the Milchama Attackers 66-58. The Attackers knew coming into the tournament and in general how thing turn out at the Milchama College Gridiron (average score 63-56) that they were going to be an offensive minded team. That meant that whoever had the ball last or whoever made the big defensive stop was going to win.

The Attackers got the ball first and came out running. Running Back Thomas Brooker crashed through the defense 3 times to get the ball to the Tonissia 20 yard line. There after a perfect play action pass QB Max Mallard found WR Kenny Tennion in the end zone to make it 7-0. Tonissia struck back on one play a 75 yard TD pass. Then the Attackers struck back. Then the Tonissians were stopped but the Attackers turned the ball over and the Hokies scored to tie the game up at 14. The game just went like that the entire time through 3 quarters one team to get the lead only to blow it and allow the other team to score. Finally in the 4th quarter things changed when Thomas Brooker got a 54 yard run. And the Attackers made a fake PAT that ended with LB Tal Shortman getting the ball in the endzone to make it 50-42. Then the Attackers struck again as they forced a fumble by the Hokies RB. The offense took advantage to give the Attackers a 58-42 as again the 2 point conversion was successful. Unfortunately the special teams could not hold up as the Hokies ran back a kick return got a 2 point conversion and then recovered the on-side kick. The next play they scored again to tie the game at 58. Then the Attackers offense was stopped as Mallard could not get the first down on 4th and 4. The Hokies got the ball and went straight down the field on one play to win the game with a touchdown with 38 seconds left.

Kaze Progressa and The Candrian Empire produced a defensive battle of West Pacific proportions in the NS Bowl tonight - some fans wondered if there were forcefields inside the red zone, such was the brilliance of the defense on both teams once the ball got anywhere near the 20.

In fact, the first score of the game was a safety for Kaze Progressa early in the second quarter, Matthew Miles taking a sack in the end zone after two defensive linemen pushed past young LG Terry Kojerel as if he were made of papier mache. The momentum switched completely the opposite way when the safety punt return was fumbled and the recovery was taken to the 23-yard line, but Miles took another sack on third-and-inches before he could even hand off to HB Johnathan Courel, forcing a field goal which left the Candrian Empire a mere point ahead.

That grew to four points right before HT with another FG, this time from 44 yards out after a sack on Arista Jatuyi forced a fumble, the sixth turnover of the first half (four fumbles, two INTs).

The Progressans seemed to have no answer to the defense of the Candrian Empire, but when second-string QB Quaza Quimtaji came on he turned the game on its head - scoring the only TD of the game with 2:22 left in the third, a play-action fake being followed by a 32-yard rush around and past a defense committed to stopping the HB rush down the middle. The extra point was converted by Maurto-Akinsevi, and the fourth quarter passed without a score thanks to no fewer than six INTs, four of them by Progressan DBs.

BlueTiger Loses a Good Game

BlueTiger 3
Elrich 12

In a close game BlueTiger loses it's first internaional football game. "Our defense was strong, as expected, only allowing one TD and making crucial stops in the red zone, resulting in two feild goals. They even stopped the extra point," said Head Coach Jake White in a post game interview, "However our offence was subpar. No points off our offense at all. Despite the four turnovers our D gave us, The O didn't score. Our only three pooints came off a three and out after an INT by AJ Johnson. I'm espically disapointed at our Running Back Allen Walton, for his two fumbles and three dropped passes, all on third down."

The people of BlueTiger were upset as well, and they showed their displeasure by starting many riots (albit small riots) all over the nation. There were a few injuries on both the sides of civiallan and police.

"No really! I won't let one more football out of my hands! Ever!" said a distressed Allen Walton in front of a largre crowd of people in front of his house. "We'll win the next game thanks to me, I swear!"

West Pacific Draws again - Tied for second in Group 3
Defense shuts down Vilitia's high powered offense

Only two days after tying Hockey Canada in over Time the high powered offense of Vilitia was matched up against West Pacific, who had arguably the best defense in the tournament. The result? One of the most boring games of the modern era as West Pacific and Vilitia once again tied 0-0.

The defensive coordinator for West Pacific appeared to have the game well in check, not once allowing Vilitia past the 40 yard line but all his effort was essentially wasted because the offense was unable to even get in field goal range. At the end of the game the team split into two groups, offense and defense with the special teams heading into the locker room, the difference in tone was minimal but the mood was definetly different. The defensive coordinator was heard telling the defense "Our offense only has to put three points on the board for us to win but they can't even handle that. You guys are gonna have to pick off a pass or recover a fumble and run it into the endzone for us to score." The words coming from the offensive huddle were a little different. "Our defense is the best in this tournament, all you guys have to do is score once and the game will be over. One win is all we need and we can waltz into the next round and so long as can score once a twice a game we will eventually win. If you guys do not score in the next game I will put in the second team offense and we will see if they can do any better. Hell, I might just throw some of our Defensive Backs in at Wide Receiver because they have more interceptions than you guys have catches so far this tourny." The coach was then seen storming off the field towards the locker room with the defense close behind and the offense slowly bringing up the rear, clearly disappointed with their performance.

If West Pacific goes through this tournament with four ties it is doubtful that they will be able to advance to the next round. With a win over Hockey Canada though West Pacific could quite possibly advance to the next round. However if the offense does not start stepping up and moving the ball a little all the defensive stops in the world might not matter one bit. West Pacific will next be in action in two days when they face off against Poohgump, the only team in the group with a loss. This game could be a critical momentum builder but if West Pacific loses all hopes of advancing are gone.

Miles Injured, Out for Next Game- Jermaine; DeRoy to take snaps

Cougars QB Matt Miles, the starter for the team's offense, has been announced as injured with compound injuries, including a lingering concussion and wrist sprain.

Miles was injured on the August 6th game against Kaze Progressa, where he took no less than 4 sacks, including a saftey, in a close 9-6 defeat.

No other official word has been released, but it is speculated that the injury originated during the game. Sources close with the team point to the sack in the endzone on 2nd and long, where Miles was flattened out by Srittik Manzath, Jaulinta Nazka, and linebacker Quaza Zozyiquen, upon the doubleteam of rookie lineman Terry Kojerel. Miles apparently took several hard hits to the head, and was immediatly seen stumbling up, and quite shaken. When he returned during the next series, he seemed fine, until miscues on 3rd and inches on the Kaze 13 created another sack, leaving the Cougars with a one point lead.

Until Miles recovers, both Juan Jermaine and Joe DeRoy will take snaps behind the center.

Aroras Scrape Through

Bettia 23
The Velkyan Union 20

The Aroras came into this game buoyed by their positive performance against Oliverry in which they only ent down to an overtime fiald goal, and their positive mood showed as they overcame a battling Velkyan Union squad, although they were made to sweat late on.

Bettia had the better of early possesion and soon went 6-0 up thanks to a pair of field goals. However, their opponents took full advantage of a howler as an attempted punt was blocked, and their linebacker gathered the ball and galloped across the goal-line.

The second quarter was a very tight affair and threatened to end scoreless, but thankfully this was avoided as Downton's James Anderson was put clear from a short pass and he scored despite the close attention of two defenders.

The third quarter was equally tight, with both teams scoring a field goal each to make the score going into the last quarter 16-10 in Bettia's favour.

That soon changed as a glorious long ball from Al-Shahaf found Brooks unmarked in the goal area, and his cleanly-taken catch gave the Aroras a seemingly unassailable 14-point lead. However, the Velkans quickly responded with a field goal, and spent the rest of the last five minutes camped in the Bettian half trying desperately for the breakthough they needed.

It came with a little under two minutes remaining as their running back found a way through the scrimmage and he darted across the line to get his side right back into the game.

Luckily for our heroes, the Aroras held on to claim their first ever victory in this competition and go into their next game looking to build on this.

Defense shines as Milchama only allows 54

The Milchama Attackers defense shined brightly today only allowing 54 points and not giving up a score for the last 7 minutes of the 4th quarter. The offense on the other hand did a little bit better than last time but the defense improvement was evident from the start as on the first drive Kevin Nunnal got an interception and it returned it to the 2 yard line where Thomas Boorker then scored. The game continued to go the Warriors way as they blocked the first extra point attempt from the Canadian Empire after they scored. Unfortunately our kicker missed his kick but it did not matter as on their 4th drive we stopped them again this time after they got only 56 yards it was unbelievable. The offense then scored again and again and again. The score at half time was 35-19 Milchama.
The second half started bad for the defense who gave up points like usual and the offense could not continue its usual pace as the Big Maple Leafs stopped them by the end of the third quarter the score looked like this. 49-37 Milchama. The 4th quarter was pretty defensive as the Attackers only scored 13 points. The Big Maple Leafs on the other hand scored 17 points but they did not score for the last 7 minutes and the Attackers won the game when Terrence Allen got another interception and returned this one to the 20 where Max Mallard found Kenny Tennion in the end zone to give Milchama the 8 point lead and the win. Final Score Milchama 62- Canadian Empire 54.

West Pacific Scores First Win in International Play!
Bars all over West Pacific crowded with fans.
Police in full riot control gear take to the streets

Late last night West Pacific scored their first ever win in an international football tournament, beating Poohgump 3-0 on a last second field goal by Leffew which sent crowds across the nation into a state of hysteria. "I have waited 43 years to finally see a West Pacific team win in a major international tournament, I am just glad I was young enough to be able to truly enjoy it." Said a fan in the South Street Tavern in West Pacific City, only one and a half miles from the capitol building and President's residence. Another fan had this to say, "You could just tell today was the day, Poohgump had only played one game so they probably weren't very well adjusted to playing under so much pressure."

So great was the victory in the minds of most fans that the celebrations quickly moved outside and the police were quickly over whelmed. The Army had to send in troops to protect the capitol building and President's residence. At one point the crowd got so large that the President and his family were awakened and flown out of the city because the crowds were only 20 feet away from the gates to his residence. When asked later about how he felt the President only said "Under any circumstances I would have been infuriated, this time however I think I will let it slide. It is unfortunate what happened to the shop owners in the city, I will ask that congress set aside funds to have their shops repaired. I think we can afford to be lenient just this once, don't you?"

West Pacific's victory places them in first in Group 3 with two matchday's left but does not secure them a birth in the next round. Next matchday is West Pacific's bye, they will finish the first round against Hockey Canada, the hosts of the tournament and are currently tied for second in their region with Yafor 2. The next matchday's game between Hockey Canada and Yafor 2 is of huge importance, regardless of the outcome of the game at least one of these two teams will be in first in the group. If Hockey Canada and Yafor 2 tie however there will be a three way tie for first in the region, with a win over Poohgump, Vilitia could make it a four way tie for first.

The amazing thing about the chaos caused by last night's game is that West Pacific hasn't even earned a spot in the next round yet. The standings are so close that Yafor 2, West Pacific, Hockey Canada and Vilitia all have a decent shot at advancing. With a Vilitia win in their match against Hockey Canada they would secure a spot in the next round and West Pacific would only need a draw to back-step into the next round. A win by Hockey Canada would however secure their spot in the next round and West Pacific could still get in with a draw. West Pacific has about a 66% chance of advancing to the next round and as long as their defense keeps playing as well as it has lately they are unlikely to lose.
Kaze Progressa
16-09-2005, 14:28
After trailing all through an absorbing clash with East Lithuania, Kaze Progressa put themselves in with a real chance of making it through the group stage of the sixth NS Gridiron Championship with a late TD to win 16-14.

East Lithuania raced out of the traps, returning the opening kickoff to the 44 and gaining six yards on the first play of the drive. While that drive only took them to the Progressan 31, and the resultant 48-yard FG try was just short and left, the first play for the Progressan offense was fumbled by Mert Minajato. The ball was seized by a blitzing MLB, who ran in for a defensive TD which was successfully converted.

The Progressans responded with a clever trick play. After second-string HB Nutijina Jaevil returned the ball to the 28, he lined up alongside first-choice Minajato in a split back formation with the two TEs - both among the team's star players - and a solitary WR, who in turn was moved in motion to the inside, thus drawing the entire defense to the inside. But all the receivers ran diagonal out routes - except Jaevil, who was given a toss to the right before throwing the ball himself to wide-open TE Mert Mujaisek, who made the reception on his own 40 and was only stopped on the East Lithuanian 22 for a 50-yard gain. It was the only first down of the drive, but Yateri Maurto-Akinsevi made the 35-yard FG to cut the deficit to 7-3. Only 5:52 had been played.

No more points followed in the first quarter, and only one scoring play followed in the second - another Maurto-Akinsevi FG, this time from 29 yards after QB Arista Jatuyi was sacked on 3rd and goal running a PA play. 7-6 at HT seemed close, but East Lithuania took a priceless eight-point cushion in the third courtesy of another defensive TD, this time from a pick after Jatuyi tried to unleash a long pass into coverage on 3rd and 11.

The Progressans began an excellent drive at the end of the third quarter, though - starting from inside their own 5, they converted three successive third downs, the third of which was the last play of the third quarter, and saw second-string QB Quaza Quimtaji run right past a four-man pass rush for a 27-yard gain. The drive soon stalled, but Maurto-Akinsevi scored his third FG of the game from 39 yards to leave the score 14-9 with 13:37 left.

East Lithuania tried to run down the clock pretty much from that point onwards, even with nearly a quarter to go. Their first drive didn't get them beyond the 50, but did take almost three minutes off the clock; the Progressans were also forced to punt on their next drive, which only produced one first down. East Lithuania took possession on their own 20 with 8:03 left, and proceeded to call a run every single play in this drive. It proved successful in winding down the clock, using up 5:56 and a Progressan timeout, but a 41-yard FG attempt - which if successful would have left the Progressans needing a TD and a two-point conversion - sailed right.

Sensing their chance, the Progressans ran a hurry-up offense out of a shotgun formation with 3 WRs and 2 TEs, and produced three successive completed passes for first downs. Quimtaji took a sack on the 50 on the next play, with 1:20 to go, but after the Progressans used their second timeout and replaced him with Jatuyi again - as well as replacing TE Yuzaglin with WR Jarasan to add more speed - the next play resulted in a 31-yard gain, Jarasan streaking past the defense before being pushed out of bounds by the FS. The next two passes went long, but Jarasan was the target again on 3rd and 10, and he sprinted away for the TD with only 1:04 left.

That proved to be the game-winning score when CB Karvini Eskazao made a pick on the second play of the East Lithuanian drive, with 0:53 on the clock and only two timeouts left for the East Lithuanians. And so that was that.

Defenses embarresed in offense-centric battle

Cougars outscored by Attackers, 62 - 54

The Milchama Attackers defeated the Candrian Cougars 62 - 54, in a game where both offenses looked unstoppable and both defenses looked like they forgot to get on the field.

Defensive coodinater Mack Sheinnen called it "their worst showing to grace the field."

"They were horrible. There was no energy left for them. By the second half, they had nothing in the gas tanks." Sheinnen, when questioned on the defense's spectacular run stopping, schooled the street team on football fundamentals. "Football is more than keeping the other team from running. While we pretty muched ground their run game to a halt, they took to the air pretty quick, and exploited mismatches and weaknesses in our secondary. It shouldn't have happened. The line didn't create any pass pressure, and it got to us."

Backup QB Joe Deroy, on second and 6 from the Dominion's 31, flicked off the first pass of the game with a throw that, while just perfect, fell into corner Kevin Nunnal's sticky hands, where he took it back to the two and set up an Attacker TD run with a draw to Tom Boorker. Although the Attackers missed the extra point, the game clearly was going the Attacker's way, if not on defense.

On the ensuing kickoff, a short kick by (Milchama's unnamed kicker) blasted the ball right into Mike Millen's chest unexpectingly, knocking him down and sending the ball spiraling towards the Dominion endzone. Maurice Gibson fell on the ball at the 5 before any Attacker could get there, but no return could be made. The Cougars then drove 95 yards on a blasting series, showing why May Hornell made the team, with breaks of 22 and 34 yards. The drive was capped with a 6 yard run inside by John Courel for the easy TD. But when Harold Ulson was overpowered with four defenders swarming him and no help in sight, the extra point got blocked.

The Attackers proceded to cut up the Cougar secondary, producing a total of 6 more touchdowns before the half ended, with touchdowns by Kenny Tennion, Boorker, even lineman Bryon Colon, who scored 6 when Milchama fumbled the snap on the 4, and a giant crease formed infront of the 292 lb guard. But not without consequences. The Cougars again scored two touchdowns, with passes to Sean Skoar and Dillion Pothey.

But the most impressive show in the first quarter was the Defense's last stand - with 4 minutes remaining, the Attackers had the ball on their 16, after the high kick allowed special teams to swarm the Milchama redzone. Max Mallard dropped back on what was supposed to be an easy first down, with Taylor Miller towering over Victor Jueggens' 5'11" stature. But it was not to be. The Cougars came out with a three-four look, and the Attacker line wasn't ready for what came next. Victor Jueggens, Joe Geigar, Jeremy Menast, and Terrance LeMay all swarmed the front, and Mallard had to drop far more than he wished. He struggled to rush back to find some time, but the quick defenders made it not so. Curiling to the right, thinking he had time, Mallard finally settled down inside the Attacker's own one-yard line, but Menast, infront of Mallard, forced him back a step. Geigar came in to end the play - a hard hit to Mallard's side brought him down for the sack and the saftey, putting the Cougars up to 19, with under 3 minutes left.

With the optimisitic end to the half, and opening of the 3rd quarter (where the Cougars scored 18 points, including a field goal and conversion), the game seemed like it would be equal - and indeed, with 7 minutes left in the last quarter, it looked like it - the score was 54-54, and the Cougars had the ball. A 36 yard drive from their own 29 seemed like it would be the game winning drive, but when DeRoy dropped back for a pass, the ball again went picked off - Terrance Allen picked off the pass, and ran it back for the TD and conversion.

Geron Alet (QB) - Scrambling passer, very accurate.
Vimul Kingaorld (QB) - Pocket passer, can be accurate, but third string.
Scott Jeffers (RB) - Fast runner with good eyesight, projects with huge gains, but is most often used for play-action fakes.
Dave Williamson (RB) - Powerful runner, used in combination with Jeffers for an interesting combo and good results, used for brunt of running.
Geraint Jonax (RB) - Hard runner who can be used with great sucess on a tired defense.
Bud Marbolomot (FB) - Powerful fullback who can catch.
Octerin Alabor (TE) - Smart Tight end with quick hands.
Simon West (TE) - Excellent tight end, the better one, who has great hands.
Jimothy Tia (WR) - BEst wide reciever, often double covered, since if he gets the ball, he is unbeatable.

Rondell King (WR) - Good hard wide reciever who can catch.
Ruben Garchilloe - Good backup who can catch.

OOC: Depth chart to be (hopefull) finished later. These are all of the important people, except for Cornerback Juan Partes, Strong Safety Treb Cecil and Cornerback Ali-Al Hameen, who make all of he interceptions. Oh, and Kicker Ethan Terrell.

Yafor 2 and West Pacific Can't Solve Anything as Defense Rules the Day

It was a day where the most anticipated defenses of their day lived up to their hype. West Pacific, by far the best defensive team in the league, shut down the Yaforites with only 3 First Downs, 56 Yards PAssing, 2 Interceptions, and 36 Yards Running. The best game was had by Dave Williamson, who was 2-34 rushing, while the others combined for a 18-2 debacle.

It was in overtime that it looked like the Yaforites would be victorious. They had purposefully driven forward with 1:02 left on the clock to 47 yards out, well within Ethan Terell's range. However, a West Pacific blocker happened to be very tall, so he may have intimidated the holder, who played with the ball, resulting in a wide right kick. In the end, it was a well-earned (and expected) 0-0 draw.

Yafor 2 Upset Number 9 Seeds

It was upset night in Hockey Canada, as the Vilitan side was cockily sturttering down the field, confiden they would win. They did not expect what would hit them. Starting Quarterback Terrance James threw for 283 yards, 26 first downs, and 2 touchdowns. Ethan Terell erased his mistake against West Pacific with three field goals, one from 54 yards out, which is seven off his career mark.

The first drive of the Yaforites began with James throwing everywhere. He was finding Terrence Short (who ended 7-101), Jimothy Tia (7-103, both touchdowns) and Simon West (5-62) on nearly every play. Both touchdowns came on "Hail Mary"s to Jimothy Tia. The Yaforites statistics were much better than their scoreline, however. If not for over 11 penalties, they would have washed out the Vilitan side. But the YAforites should, and are, happy for their victory. Perhaps they will qualify? Their upcoming match against Hockey Canada is critical; they must win or tie. That is for certain. And, hopefully, har work will be rewarded. May the best team win!

(OOC: Oops, looks like I forgot to post for that last game, oh well. Time for this one's game.)

BlueTiger wins!

The national team of BlueTiger, BlueTiger Stripes, has won its first international game last week, over The Velkyan Union, 9-6. "This is exactly the kind of game we expected to play in, and win," says Coach White, as he opens a bottle of wine in the locker room, "A defensive struggle won by our kicker."

The Stripes won on a 53 yard field goal by kicker John Peters. He performed well all day, making three field goals (46, 32, and 53 yards). "Well, that's really all I do all day," said a humble Peters, "I mean all I do is kick a football all day, everyday, to get ready for games. Did you really expect me to miss?"

Also a surprise, running-back Allen Walton, only fumbled twice the whole game, recovering them both, miraculously, on his own, and even rushed for an amazing 12 yards (Yes! Positive yards!) on 26 carries. "Yeah, I really did have a great day today," said a not-so-humble Allen Walton, "There was no way we would have won today without me."

Slugfest in Hockey Canada; Hosts Overpower Yaforites on Final Two Drives

It was the type of game that the Yaforite defense had not been wanting. It was the type of game that their offense had been wanting.

Quaterback Terrence JAmes showed his passing skill and exquisite power as he threw for 431 yards and 5 touchdowns as the Bears fell to the host side, Hockey Canada. James' pure phisique and arm strength shone through as he fired off 36 passes out of only 39 attempts, a percentage of over 92%. He found Jimothy Tia consistantly (Tia caught 11 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns) and also threw 70 yards each to Rondell King and Terrance Short. An added 48 yards also went tight end Simon West.

But it was the sheer accuracy of JAmes' passes that was so stunning. On fourth and long in the third quarter, he found King accross the middle, delivering the ball straight to his arms. On first and ten on the fifty, his hurled a bullet just over the shoulder of Jimothy Tia, during which Tia ran all the way, unleasing his before-dormant skills of spinning, dodging.

In fact, Short was so good that the Bears only ran four times...and all were in the first quarter. But they did plenty of running. Jimothy Tia used his skills of getting around his man, eluding tackles, and generally speeding at speeds unknown to football players with their heavy gear. He had so many catches, with an average of just over 22 yards a catch, that he shone in such a way it was indistinguishable.

In his post-game interview, Tia was humble, concise, and not lengthy as he told the story-hungry news reporters that he had not done the work, that Short's passes were excellent, that the QB deserved all the credit. All the reporters smiled, knowing the truth. In other news, kicker Ethan Terell kept his streak alive, after missing what would have been the game-winning field goal int first game.

Kaze Progressa
25-09-2005, 17:34
The first comment from the Progressan QB Arista Jatuyi after a 76-70 OT defeat of Milchama was simple and to the point: 'Are you sure there were eleven players on each side of the ball?'

There were. But after a game like this, you'd believe otherwise. There were 21 TDs, ten each in regular time and the decider from the Progressans returning the opening kickoff in OT. There were no fourth downs - every kick all game was either a PAT attempt or a kickoff. The defenses produced a cumulative 4 TDs and only two tackles for losses. It was one of those games that made you stare at the screen a little closer at the end to check the players weren't digitised.

And then swear they were anyway.

Still, the Progressans have finished the group stage with a 3-1 record and will go through unless both Tonissia and East Lithuania win. It'll be nervous for the Progressans as Jatuyi admitted: 'Watching your fate decided on TV isn't fun,'. But he also expressed his delight that the Progressans have got this far: 'We've done all we can and exceeded everyone's expectations. We thought we might be out by now, but no.'

Chromas Trying to Hold On

After starting off the first phase of the sixth NS Bowl with two victories, the Chromas had begun to feel that this could be their chance to finally win it all, that is, until the Chromas suffered a defeat at the hands of Fmjphoenix. At this point, Euroslavia is battling to make it into the next phase of the NS Bowl, if they can hold on to the second position in their group. Fmjphoenix will definitely give them a ride for their money, as well as Gondeau, who still have a shot at overtaking the Chromas for that position.

Euroslavia has only had one bad season in its' history of NS Bowls, in which the first season for the Chromas was the 2nd Bowl. They missed the second phase of the Bowl, and sought out to make sure that never happened again. Ever since then, Euroslavia has consistently placed very high, though has never won a championship. It seems as though the team has a curse placed on them, but the team doesn't appear to think so.

"There's no such thing as a 'curse'." stated Andrew Soluge. "The fact of the matter is that we just haven't been good enough to win a championship. Every time, there has been another team out there that has been better than us. We need to do something this time around to prove otherwise. It's going to be hard, because there are some teams out there that have proven themselves to be strong contenders for the championship, but all we can do is play our to the best of our abilities and work as a team, and I think we'll do alright."

Special Teams no good as Milchama lose 76-70 in OT

The Milchama Attackers special teams needs work and names after blowing the opening kick off return in overtime to lose the game 76-70. We need more defense."

Milchama offense just not good enough as they lose 76-70

The Milchama Attackers offense just could not hold up today as they did not score enough points to win the game and lost to Kaze Progressa 76-70. The Attackers with 30 seconds left did not convert their 4th and 1 and KP got one of their two tackles for losses stopping running back Thomas Brooks. They then scored on a kick return touchdown in OT to win the game.

West Pacific Advances!
36-33 win over Hockey Canada sends West Pacific into next round, Hockey Canada also advances.

West Pacific City - Last night 36-33 shootout victory was much a much more exciting and tense game but the celebration that insued was not nearly as violent as those a few nights ago when West Pacific got its first win in an international game. Why was the scene far more peaceful last night than last week? The police were prepared last night, police in riot control gear were deployed at the scenes of last week's violents, any chance for trouble was immediately snuffed out, no damage was reported and no arrests were made.

After trailing 27-3 at half time West Pacific picked it up on both sides of the ball, scoring 21 points unaswered to start the second half, making the score 24-27. Hockey Canada responded with a 47 yard field goal giving them a six point lead with 7:32 left in the fourth quarter. West Pacific's offense was shut down on the ensuing drive but Hockey Canada was pinned inside the three yard line on a beautiful punt by Brian Landis, after two stopped runs Hockey Canada dropped back to pass but their QB was sacked in the end zone when Randy Bell blitzed from the blind side and sacked the QB in his own end zone, making the score 26-30. The ensuing punt was muffed by West Pacific and Hockey Canada recoved on the West Pacific 30. The defense however stood their ground and forced Hockey Canada to kick a field goal, with 1:57 left the score was 33-26 Hockey Canada. West Pacific went into a hurry-up offense and were able to move the ball 60 yards taking 1:32 off the clock before three consecutive incompletions forced Bobby Leffew to attempt a 52 yard Field Goal. With 25 seconds left and the score 30-33 West Pacific had no choice but to attempt an onside kick which was successfully recoved on their own 45 yard line with 18 seconds left. After two incomplete passes Tyrone Rhone had to attempt to throw the long ball and pray. With 4 seconds left West Pacific lined up with an empty backfield and a five-wide set. Tyrone Rhone dropped back, went through his progression before finding Corey Walker wide open and hit him in stride at the ten yard line, the two Hockey Canada defenders fell down and all Walker had to do was stride into the end zone capping off this impressive comeback by West Pacific and earning a spot in the next round.

West Pacific's 36-33 win was very uncharacteristic of this team, which had never scored more than 23 points as a team when playing against West Pacific's professional teams to prepare for this tournament. Tyrone Rhone threw for 280 yards and three touchdown's, both career highs. Two of Matt Holmlund's 11 catches were for touchdowns as he racked up 134 yards receiving and setting a career high for catches. Corey Walker had only one catch but it was a big one, a game winning 55 yard touchdown catch as time expired. Casey Veenhoff ran for 113 yards and a touchdown, James Jones had 57 yards on the ground and Shannon Poppinga had 39. Randy Bell had one safety and Bobby Leffew kicked two field goals to round out the scores.

Attackers lose their last game as defense no good

The Milchama Attackers lost their last game of the qualifiers. The loss was a bad one for the defense who could not hold a 66-49 with 8 minutes left in the game. The defense did not play well giving up two touchdowns in 3 minutes before quarterback Max Mallard got threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown making it 66-63 with 1:30 left to go. The on side kick was recovered by Tennion giving the Attackers time to run out the clock. The East Lithuanian defense though had other ideas as they stopped Brooks for 3 strait plays. Then on 4th down the punt went into the end zone. The Lithuanians had the ball at the 20 yard line with 38 seconds left to play and it looked like a sure victory for the Attackers but one long strike and suddenly they were at the Attackers 32. Next play a 10 yard play, play after that a 21 yard pass out of bounds at the one. There were 3 second left to play and they went for the TD and got it as their running back scooted across the goal line and scored to make it a 70-66 loss for the Attackers.
