Euroslavia

The concept of a spacefaring Euroslavia was one that was on the minds of its' citizens, as well as the government and Lady Destra herself. For many years, it was largely opposed to; however, in the recent decade, the amount of area in Euroslavia continued to dwindle as its population continued to grow rapidly. Something needed to be done to lessen the growing tension within Euroslavia's borders...Lady Destra looked out into space. Millions upon billions of stars and planets were scattered across the universe. How could it not be possible that Euroslavia could use one of those planets for itself? The decision ultimately came down to the leader herself, with approval from the Cabinet.
"For one, I am opposed to even contemplating such an option. What good can it do for us? If anything, it'll open up more reasons for us to be attacked by other spacefaring nations that have superior technology. We don't stand a chance at surviving out there." stated one of the Ministers.
"I object, sir." replied Lady Destra, catching most of the Ministers off-guard. "While going into space would give us the possibility of being attacked, it also gives us the opportunity of developing relations with reasonable space nations, as well as get the space we need to relax the already rising troubles of space in our territory," countered Lady Destra, while she continued on, "There are always going to be double-edged swords with every decision that we can ever make. We need to weigh the pro's and con's of the decision, and go from there. We all need to think, is this going to be worth it in a long-term perspective?"
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lady Marona, whom was also second in command, stood up and began to share her vision of the entire situation with the rest of the Cabinet. "I must concur with Lady Destra on this decision at hand. By going into space, we're most certainly going to hit a few obstacles. I'm sure every nation making such a decision has gone through it. It just means that we're going to have to persevere, and work through it all. It would also be a good idea to get into contact with another space nation, to request assistance in the event that a hostile space nation were to attack us. We would have no chance at winning, seeing as haven't exactly developed weapons for space, let alone a colonization ship. We cannot afford to pour our own money into a cause that could be destroyed within minutes."
The entire Cabinet seemed to acknowledge Lady Marona's statement as truth. There was a small amount of silence after she spoke, which usually meant that no protests against what she said were going to happen. All that was left was to hammer out the details.
"Anyone that disagrees with Lady Marona's statement, please say so now, or else we will move on to plan all of the details." requested Lady Destra.
Not a single person rose their hand, stood up, or shook their head. The Minister that had objected earlier gave a scowl at the rest of the Ministers for agreeing, but conceded that he would lose in a debate against the rest of them. He decided to go along with it, even though he opposed it with every bone in his body. If something happens to the mission, and disaster strikes, he would be the first to rub it into their faces, about how he was right about the whole situation.
For the next two hours, the Cabinet and Lady Destra debated and made suggestions about the best plan of action. There were a lot of disagreements, especially between Lady Marona, and the Minister who objected to everything in the first place. Cynicism was his best policy when in disagreement with the decision being made, which irritated everyone, and further aggrivated Lady Marona. Despite those setbacks, a plan was finally proposed, and was about to be acted upon. Mechanics and engineers were going to be called forth to help with this new idea. The public was also to be informed as well, which is one of the things that most of the Cabinet members were worried about, though recent polls showed that 65% of the public would support space colonization, 31% were opposed, and 4% were unsure. This could change drastically if any sort of mistake were to happen, so everyone had to be careful about the events that were to occur up to the actual launch...
