How would I go about organising a constitution for my country. We are a democracy but the governemt and the people both feel that a constitution would greatly improve the way that politics can influence our country.
Would it be possible for some outline copies or infomation so I may begin on drawing up a lay of laws. Could someone also tell me the importance of actually having a constitution. Is it worth it? Would it be wise to have one?
Thankyou very much.

IC: We have had a constitution almost since the very inception of our nation. We believe very firmly in the importance of having a prescribed set of laws and limitations on the power of the government and we are very strongly in favour of a set of laws that promote power of the people, by the people, and for the people.

We can offer our assistance in your endeavour to create a constitution should you wish it. We offer our own Constitution (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=330340) as a guideline if you would like to use it as such.

OOC: If you want to write a constitution for RP purposes, you certainly can, especially if you choose to run your country very differently from a particular RL country. Some people might say that writing a lengthy constitution is a bit too much detail to get into for an online RPG, but NS thrives on detail.

You can use my Constitution (most of which is based on the U.S. Constitution) as a guideline if you wish. I made some changes to it, placing emphasis on some areas and negating some. My Article XX is based on Article V of Maryland's Declaration of Rights (which allows me to use precedents from the United States or Great Britain prior to the inception of the United States).

And if seriously, I suggest just looking around for some European (or North American) Constitutions, finding what you need and then simply modifying it. Yes, you will have to read through quite some text, but, after all, you are supposed to be willing to sacrifice your time to write one, so reading shouldn't be a problem.

You can spare some time by deciding beforehand what you want (federalism? presidential republic?) and then just look for the Constitutions of the countries that are the most similar to your goals. ]
