Recently, the Confederate States of Allanea discovered that it was woefully short on any kind of diplomatic relations with any nations except it’s allies. Today, an effort started being made to increase Allanea’s so-called ‘diplomatic buoyancy.’ Given that New Port-Allanea is a freshly built city, the Allaneans are able to allocate good real estate to embassies of those nations who would be willing to establish such embassies within the Confederacy. "She did what?!" Director of Military, retired Captain-Commander Nathan Black eased himself into his seat before he started chuckling. Big and round, he had a very fierce mien, who could still make new Cadets wet themselves in fear.

"Our new Castellan and the Director of External Affairs got into a wrestling match." The Special Assistant chuckled behind his mustache.

"About who should be the one to approach Allanea? Come on, Jack, you're better off asking me to open relations. Certainly, much of our stance regarding the Allaneans have come through my office." Black frowned.

"Perhaps." Jack Brightman leaned forward. "But they deserve a chance and..." He shrugged. "We have nothing to lose and everything to gai-"

At that moment, Castellan Fotheringown entered, rubbing a trickle of blood from the side of her mouth. "Mister Brightman, go send a doctor to help our dear Director of External Affairs. He's got a very nasty black eye." She smirked, then left.

"Why me?" Although it was roughly equivalent to 2 am, the Government was already in action. First to be shaken awake was Katie del Polo, who, although on the sunny side of thirty, was actually one of the best diplomats and former-ambassadors the nation possessed.

"Because, Miss del Polo, your nation needs you. This Allanea thing is the most crucial thing this nation of ours has done in years." Fotheringown was impatient, but took her time and passed over a mug of coffee. "You keep boasting to us about your skills, it's time to prove it again."

"Is this coffee or jet fuel?" del Polo sniffed the mug. "Amber, if there's one thing I always hated about your coffee, it's that you make it blacker than a moonless night and with a pinch of salt." She made a face, but downed the rest. "I can take up the Ambassadorship, but you and the Triumvirate owe me big time. Now please get out so I can prepare a staff. You go get our negotiating materials ready."

In regards to various talks, including trade, I myself will be acting in my government's capacity initially, at least until formal relations and the initial arrangements are formalised.

"Mr. Speaker, I'm afraid this situation just isn't as simple as you would like it to be," campaign manager Darrell Heslin was saying, his voice earnest as he tried to convince the Speaker of the Assembly that he simply couldn't reestablish relations with Allanea, not until after the elections anyway. "Look, I'm well aware that you're in a virtually unassailable position right now, but you have to think about the party as a whole. Establishing an embassy with a country that's probably responsible for the deaths of more Scotian servicemen in the last fifty years than any other could easily lose us a couple of seats in the Senate, and might even cost us our majority!"

Michael MacFarlane shook his head. "I'm sorry, Darrell, this administration doesn't work that way. Sophia, let me get this straight. Allanea is not only building new embassies, but they invited us specifically to send an ambassador?"

"That's right, sir," foreign affairs secretary Sophia Kahler answered, hiding a smile. She almost felt sorry for Heslin, but he was going through the same process everyone who'd ever managed a MacFarlane campaign had to go through.

"Thank you." He nodded to her. "Now, Darrell, I know you're new here, so I'll try to bring you up to speed quickly. In my administration, we don't stop doing what's in the best interest of the country every time elections roll around. If we have to start doing our jobs differently whenever we're under review, that's a pretty good sign that we don't deserve them to begin with. Yes, we've fought some wars with Allanea in the past. In case you've forgotten, I was running the country back then too. So just trust me on this: A world in which we maintain diplomatic relations with Allanea is a lot safer than one in which we don't."

"But Mr. Speaker, the voters..."

"I'm sorry, I'm just not very good at this." MacFarlane sighed. "Eric, can you help me out?

Eric Cheslock, Chief of Staff, grinned. "Sure. Darrell, the Speaker doesn't play politics the way you want him to. He'll do what he thinks his best, and the voters can decide what they think of it. It's his thing, and it works for him, although I'll be damned if I know why. Simple enough?"

Without waiting for Heslin to respond, MacFarlane turned back to Kahler. "Let Allanea know we're taking them up on their offer."

The Confederate Government has nominated Ms. Liriel nos Dalariel as an ambassador to Adejaani. She and her embassy staff will arrive in a few days in Harrington city. We have also found a suitable location for your embassy (attaching photographs, floorplans).

Regarding trade, our basic drive is toward the mutual elimination of trade tariffs, but I a believe that this may require separate negotiations, perhaps ones that would be conducted in person.

Sir,
We too have recently noted that our diplomatic efforts predominantly take place among our established allies. It is, perhaps, an irony of international politics that diplomacy is most available in precisely those quarters where it is least needed. That being said, it is the policy of the Danaan High Kingdom to pursue normal, diplomatic relations with all states where such relations are a real possibility. Correspondingly, we are glad to take up the offer of the Confederate States for an exchange of embassies. As you might already be aware, the Danaan High Kingdom recently opened our first embassy in the Greater Prussian Empire in Derscon. It is our sincere hope that this trend will continue and that contact will increase with this region and alliance with whom we have had almost no contact before.

His High Majesty has nominated, and Parliament has approved, Mrs. Gwyneth Llewellyn as the Danaan ambassador to the Confederate States. My staff and hers shall work out the minor details with the appropriate officials. We hope to hear of an Allanean ambassador to the Resurgent Dream soon and have laid aside an appropriate building in Tarana.

I believe that we both suffer from the same problem, then. We will happily supply you with the necessary information and office space necessary for an embassy in the Confederate States. The CSA is always ready to receive new friends and new visitors. We would hope that a new influx of Resurgent tourists and businessmen would follow, to enrich our impoverished country. Mainland Allanea strives on her tourist industry, and so international relations arean important area to us.

George Thorval has been appointed as ambassador to the Dream.

The United States of Independent Hitmen is willing to re-establish its embassy, and with it diplomatic ties, that were cut after the dissolution of the NCA several years ago.

We hope that this will be the start of a long and prosperous relationship for both of our countries.
