It's All a Matter of Perspective...

Incident: On the evening of a Summer Ball in the Palace of Tarnaqin, a pair of social activists managed to break through the outer security cordon and trespass on the palace grounds. They were then shot by a Tenth Legion sniper armed with armour-piercing bullets. The ball continued uninterrupted, thanks to the excellent (or not) work of the Tsar's personal guards.

Experiment: To see how differently minded newspapers would respond to this attempted (maybe) assault (could have been) upon the Divine Imperium's glorious (as you will) Elite. Excerpts and headlines have been provided.

Palace Outrage!

Last night, as the rulers of our Blessed nation were engaging in much needed rest and relaxation, a pair of anarchist subversives broke into the palace of Tarnaqin in what was undoubtedly a plot to endanger the lives of the leaders of the Imperial People, including our beloved Imperial Family, who were celebrating the birth of Grand Duke Sebastien. Also in danger was Archduke Michael d'Arquis, and many other prominent members of the Divine Aristocracy. Thankfully, the Tenth Legion managed to contain and destroy this menace. But the question we must ask is, "Why didn't the 4th Department find these subversives before they struck?"

And the answer is the recent budget cuts inflicted on this once proud organisation by the current PNR government. Lord Chancellor Nicademus Darsalin has repeatedly endangered our people and way of life through his policies of inclusion and 'tolerance', and last night the nation almost paid the ultimate price. In the lead-up to this election, the people of Novar Ohan and the Sunset Isles need to seriously consider the track record of the Imperial Chancellery... (cont. Page 7. Editorial, p54)

Security Breach in The Most Holy City

At approximately 21:00 CIT yesterday a pair of social radicals breached the Police and Okhranka cordon outside the Imperial Palace in The Most Holy City of Tarniqin in an attempt to enter the reception being held by Their Most Divine Illuminated Majesties Tsar Adrik Alexei and Tsaritsa Adele Chyornyev in honour of their infant son Sebastien, His Serene Highness the Grand Duke of Agua. Other attendees at the party included His Grace the Lord Chancellor, His Most Illustrious Highness Archduke Michael d'Arquis and Leader of the House of Nobles, and Imperial Trading Guild Executive Charles Ver'chan.

The two uninvited guests had almost attained their goal of the inner gates when a Tenth Legion security officer spotted them and intervened. It was first reported that both men had died after being taken into custody. Later, it was learnt that they had in fact been shot while trying to enter the Palace's Keep.

Our palace correspondent reported that "The general attitude of the Aristocracy and Government is one of disinterested confusion. No one last night noticed anything was happening until the Security Officers reported the events at approximately 22:30."

Imperial City Security Police Commander Joachim Illorien had this to say in a specially convened press conference earlier today, "This is a completely unprecedented event in the history of the Holy City, and we will stage a full investigation into this lamentable lapse on our part."

At this current moment in time, the Palace has not issued a statement. Lord Captain Commander Yuri Il'yin of the Tenth Legion promised a full investigation into the shooting...

Attempt Made to Breach Palace Security

It has been reported that late last night a pair of protestors snuck through the external security cordon around the Palace of Tarnaqin. It is believed that they were attempting to gain access to the celebrations taking place for the christening of the Grand Duke, as reported on the front page. Palace Security acted speedily, though perhaps brutally, in preventing their access to the Imperial Aristocracy, government leaders, and premier figures in the guild.

The two men, believed to be in their twenties, were at first reported to have died in custody. Later, it was learnt from the Security Police that they had in fact been shot while running across the palace gardens...(more reports on the Christening Party in our special section.)

Two Men Die in Palace Security Outrage

At approximately 2100 IEPT yesterday two unarmed men entered the palace in an attempt to gain access to a private party of the Imperial Elite, welcoming Grand Duke Sebastien to his new life as a member of the Upper Class. These two men --both of whom, according to police reports, are believed to be in their twenties-- were both shot by the Tsar's personal guard without, so it is believed, warning.

It is a sad fact of life in this nation that the tragic death of two young men is unlikely to be fully investigated. These boys, already punished, have been roundly accused (without evidence) of all manner of horrible aims. One of the marks that distinguish our judiciary process from that of, say, the Republic of Iansisle or The Dominions of Imitora, is a firm belief that a man is innocent until proven guilty. What, then, can we say to those who have already condemned the deceased as terrorists or assassins? So far, the only 'crime' of which there is proof is of only wishing to see their future Tsar -- hardly subversive activity. If they were indeed terrorists, nonlethal means are certainly available to the guard, though we recognise that they are constantly forced to make dangerous...

Truth!
('Newspaper' of Action!)

Last night, the corporatist ruling class moved to silence two brave men of the proletariat who had dared to take Action against them! Having forced their way past the front line of defence of the fascists, the heroes raced across the yard to bring the plight of the workers home to the men and women who, from their gilded towers, ignored and dismissed the demands of the official representatives of Action and its affiliated groups.

Even as the elite welcomed a new member to their cushioned lifestyle, a new child who would never know a real day's work, two workers were being executed without a fair trial or even the benefit of seeing their murderers. It is becoming more and more obvious that true justice can never be found through the system which furthers these grotesque inequalities!

Take Action!

New Life Marred by Shootings

TARNIQIN, Roania -- The celebration of the birth of a son to Tsar Adrik Alexei was complicated by the attempt of two men, suspected to be opponents of the regime, to sneak into the Imperial Palace. Despite initial reports that the men died in custody, it has been revealed that both men were shot by a sniper of the Tenth Legion before they could penetrate the inner palace.

The officials in the Holy City, from Imperial City Security Police Commander Joachim Illorien to Lord Captain Commander Yuri Il'yin of the Tenth Legion, are currently attempting to investigate how the men were able to penetrate so far before being gunned down.

"This is a completely unprecedented event in the history of the Holy City, and we will stage a full investigation into this lamentable lapse on our part," said Illorien at a press conference held after the incident.

The Imperial family of Roania was unavailable for comment.

Editorial: Outrage in the 'Divine Imperium'
Or: What else is new?

Can anyone really be surprised at the news which comes out of Roania these days? For as long as we have known of them, our neighbors across the Western Marches and their 'Divine Illuminated' Tsar have behaved more like a barbaric khanate than a civilized state. Together with the heathen Effitians, they form a great reactionary barrier to the spread of illuminated Shieldian democracy.

There are some, perhaps, in that amorphous country who realize the necessity of change; however, these dissenters are the same sort who are brutally gunned down for the simple crime of trying to petition their leader.

What sort of government is it that is so aloof, so completely unaffected by public opinion, and so capable of violent acts in the defense of archaic privilege? The answer is simple: a barbaric one.

[the editorial continues in this vein for a while before concluding]

It may be only an accident of birth that made this journalist an honest Shieldian. When considering where he might have ended up, however, he kneels down every night and thanks God for that accident and for the Republic which respects, protects, and guarantees his rights.

Roanian Palace Break-In Results in Two Dead

TARNAQIN, Roania- A break-in by two people into the Summer Ball being held by the Tsar of this nation resulted in their deaths yesterday in the Palace of Tarnaqin here in Tarnaqin, Roania. After they passed the outer security cordon, they were shot on sight by a sniper from Roania's Tenth Legion. Although there was no word from the Roanian imperial family or the Roanian government, the Roanian military reported briefly that they were reevaluating their current security measures and overhauling their security structure to prevent such an attempt from reoccuring. Although no information was released on the nature of or reason for their entry or even their names, Tiburonese military intelligence believes that the two were unarmed social activists. Divine Injustice in Roania

(Tarnaqin, Roania)

Once again, the government of the so-called "Divine Imperium" has begun terrorizing its citizens. Two unarmed social activists were shot on sight- repeatedly- by sniper teams in the Palace of Tarnaqin, where the Summer Ball was being held only yards away from starving children and the termination of so-called "undesirables". As is Roanian standard policy, the people were shot by armor-piercing bullets, according to Lt. Gen. (ret.) Rohan Varma, which instantly kill anyone not wearing armor, as the activists were not.

((Errr...there seems to be a lack of understanding. :-/ The LCC was promising an investigation into why the sniper shot them, not into how they managed to live so long. The Imperial Government knows full well who to blame for how they managed to breach the cordon, and an investigation by the Duma would be a bit of overkill, especially with Nicademus up for re-election in a week or so...))

Socialist-Nationalist Showdown in Roanian Palace

<In Tarnaqin, Roania>

An attempted assault on the Palace of Tarnaqin in Tarnaqin, Roania, by two armed socialist/anarchists resulted in their deaths, as they managed to break through the security cordon before being shot by a Roanian Army sniper. The Roanian military establishment is currently reviewing how they allowed the assassins inside, especially given that the Summer Ball was host to a new birth from God, Grand Duke Sebastien.
