The Candrian Military announced today that plans for Project Strongarm, the 1000 milimeter cannon that would defend the coast against the threat of SuperDreadnaughts and massive naval fleets, would be canceled. Highest General Leeds, the leader of the CMF, announced the proposal in a press confrence on the state of the Military. "Today, we no longer have to possess a supermassive weapon to fend off the threat of these large battleships. Tactical use of our current and in development weapons will easily eliminate their support fleets, and give us the upper hand in local engagements. We don't need to waste resources on developing the Colossus Artillary System."
Disarmament activist, though pleased with the order, were upset that the 5 Billion USD Per Year that was funneled into Strongarm was going to be spent on other military projects. "This is not the time to make machines of death!," spewed Alonso Mearakt, local hippie wannabe. "We don't face any threat from these big boat thingies! There shouldn't even be any military funding! Let it go to local Marijuana production!" Said hippie, "They should also let us grow it outside, and stuff...," before the interview was cut off.
Rumor has it that most, if not all, of the funding will go to development of new, drastically more dangerous weapons. The Candrian Empire's recently aquired testbed Type 442 destroyer, however, has seen it's normal twin-155 milimeter chainload front turret replaced by a single barrel of what seems to be the same bore.

Despite the recent lack of military funding, Candrian Consolidated Technologies has announced that instead of cancelling the project outright, the Colossus system will instead be used to propel satellites into space. Michael Santos, director of the CSA, is optimistic on this recent development. "It opens the opportunity to launch more payload into Low and Medium Earth Orbit, which could mean we could launch Plan Blue satellites, communications satellites, even space telescopes, in larger sizes than we could previously on rockets. Less weight, more power, and cleaner operation - just the way the Candrian Empire does things."
