Etaros

OOC: I'm back...again. Anyway, this is basically my attempt to return to the fundamental reason I created this nation: to be elfy. I hope that this time I can actually RP and keep things interesting rather than get bored. I sort of miss this anyway. I'll be posting official government stuff soon announcing the revival of the Erasat and whatnot.
And I do intend to carry on with my hopes of creating another VERITAS Summit among other projects. So, erm, yeah. Read away!
IC:
The skies of Luín Anarórë turned black after the War of Etaros, the terrain completely marred and utterly destroyed.
The capital of Etaros, New Itaros, was transformed into scorched earth of glass and death.
The forests of Etaros, so very rare, were annihilated. The towns and villages, so serene, were raped, sacked, and pillaged. The people, once prosperous, were destitute.
The democracy, the Congress, the seeds of hope were ripped from the ground and scattered into the fiery winds of Hell, never to be returned to life again. In their place a ruthless king, Ërmos, put his power to rest. And thus did begin the Second Dynasty of the Erasat.
Generations to come will remember the scenes of flames shooting from their homes, the smoke in the distance floating into the blue skies, and then later on the blackness of above. Sickness, disease, and hunger were now known to the Etarosi. Anarchy, rebellion, and constant revolt were common in the War of Etaros. The destruction was dealt with in the hearts of people, the sadness rained harder than the black tears of the sky. More poisonous than the rain was the extent of defeat across millions of towns and villages. Major cities were completely obliterated. Such nuclear devastation had naught been seen in the history of men or elves.
Kinslaying among elves became common, cursing the dark countryside further. No man or elf could ever sing joyfully again in the accursed land, to be forsaken by orcs and the like. Evil was widespread and could not be stopped. Death was inevitable. The Second Dynasty was ruled not by an elf, but an evil impersonator. Ërmos Eledhwen has forever received the name Black King. His oppression was unending, unstoppable. Those who tried to revolt were not killed, but utterly destroyed and kept alive. Those who tried to flee were mangled in the worst of ways. Human men, women, and children were beheaded, flogged, and sent to the worst of torture chambers.
Nomadic voyages across the countryside under a consistently dark sky were pointless. Millions of Etarosi died trying to forage the land for what it was worth, for it was worth nothing. The only place where one could eat and live in constant darkness and despair with no worries of life and death was Hokigur, capital of the Second Dynasty.
For a decade this continued, with no end in sight. Then a rabble of men plotted to destroy the Black King, and they did so. A mere dozen Men stormed the palace of Hokigur and killed all the elf-impersonators that lived there.
Within a year, the land was returned to strength and vitality. The skies were cleared of blackness, and returned to blue. Beautiful rainbows dotted the areas over which the most destruction and death occurred. People began to slowly return to life as it was, and life as it should be. They gathered together and formed small villages once again, some of which turned into large, bustling towns. Others evolved into bustling cities and ports, and one such city became the capital of the Erasat. Anartirios, or City of the Sun, was established on the Eastern coast, roughly a thousand miles south of New Itaros, the charred remnant of the Second Dynasty.
In Anartirios, the sun always rises on the horizon of vast, opaque water, and all interior walls in the city's many buildings upon which the sun touches are painted golden, so that it may reflect and alight the entire room in a solar glory. The city itself is planned and massive, with enormous boulevards and beautiful white stone towers dotting the cityscape. The central business district is glass in totality, but private companies and corporations have taken it upon themselves to taint the glass of their skyscrapers in a variety of colors, so when the sun rises and sets, the effect is truly amazing. Various shades of reds, greens, blues, and even the few clear sparkle, providing further for a dazzling city upon a quaint beach.
Almost all buildings in Anartirios are built of stone, though there are some of brick and wood. Wood, however, is very rare within the Erasat, and so its usage is regulated. In fact, the timber industry is the only state-owned in the entire nation so that wood is harvested in a very conservative, careful way. The city's streets are cobbled stone, though major roads and highways are paved with concrete. The use of asphalt is unknown except in the most rural of areas, and great care is taken to ensure roads do not wear quickly or buckle.
In the new capital rests a new government, of course, made up primarily of elves declared to be something of nobility. They form the High Council, upon which they propose laws to the Sovereign who may accept or refuse them. The High Council is a body of its own, and has been established to create a tradition of rule in the Erasat. The High Council is made up of a number of Committees whose jobs are to oversee a specific area of Etarosi government and make sure that corruption is kept in check. The Erasita of the Erasat is Liëssa nós Fingolfin, an elf of four millenia and devoted to maintaining the serenity and peace of the Elves. Her undying love of the Elven ways has ensured that she will rule not with an iron fist, but a white palm to embrace all of the elves and men of Etaros. Her first decree was to declare that the growth of forests be increased tenfold, thus sparking a nationwide effort to revitalize the charred and scorched lands of the War. She has visited the countryside far and wide, inspected cities and towns and villages, and taken part in the vast effort to rebuild and restructure the nation. It was Liëssa that rid herself of traditional Elven dress and got down on her knees in common overalls to help hammer wooden huts together in a quaint village in the center of Etaros. She also dedicated her time to overseeing the construction of a shipyard at which to develop and produce a new navy for the Erasat. Under her rule, she also intends to spur the development of gravships. Though a staunch believer in peace, the Erasita is a firm believer in defense from attack. She understands that a friendly handshake and peace treaty will not always satisfy the greedy, and thus is completely prepared for betrayal. Some rumor that she is driven to paranoia after the War of Etaros in which Ërmos betrayed his brethren and enforced a policy of murder and kinslaying. Regardless, the Erasita of the Erasat is no doubt a wise choice for the absolute leader.
In the realm of international affairs she wishes to be very active and positive. She has already moved to support VERITAS further than the previous rulers, and is taking steps to officially claim territorial holds in Haven. (It is her concern that nations residing within the region may take advantage of the apparent lack of order in the Etarosi territory.) She has promised that never again will a sovereign be placed in charge of any province or colony again, that a provincial governor will be appointed by the Sovereign, and the governor must yield all power to him or her. The yielding of armies, navies, etc. is forever to be in the hands of the Sovereign alone. The lessons of the War of Etaros are too deep, too painful to understand for outsiders.
In space, the Etarosi fleet that was created a decade or two ago was ordered destroyed by Ërmos. Therefore, the prospects of an Etarosi galactical fleet yielding power and clout has been obliterated for a long time to come. In consequence, the Erasat has been forced to cancel plans to buy space on the Machiavelli Station, a branch of the Dread Dominion of Nathicana. However, Liëssa has noted with great concern the former sovereigns did little to nothing to increase or maintain activity within the Knootian International Stabilisation Treaty or the Trade Network Association. She has promised to encourage Etarosi businesses to export to nations in both blocs.
The Third Dynasty of the Erasat has thus begun, after little more than a quarter of a century of Etarosi existence. It is not only desired, but dreadfully hoped by the Etarosi people that this Dynasty be everlasting, without end, and without shame, death, or destruction.
And I do intend to carry on with my hopes of creating another VERITAS Summit among other projects. So, erm, yeah. Read away!
