"Well, Captain, so what are we doing here? " - asked a crewmember - a young man of about seventeen years old, only on his third month in the CSSN. "I mean, what is the use of patrolling in an area where we have no possessions?"
The captain shrugged. "First of all, we do have possessions here. Not a lot, but still. Remember us claming Golevka? (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=417341)"
"Eh, Sir. Golevka? Golevka is just a meaningless ‘roid…"
The Captain laughed. "It’s not meaningless. There’s a hotel on it. Second, we’re tasked with discovering more asteroids with a similar orbit. Like this one - right in front of us."
The small Hughie Mk II (http://anikari.zioncreation.com/hughm2.htm)-class craft slid past the side of the oversized rock, dropping beacons onto it. "This was simple, isn’t it, boy? Now the hard part comes - they’ll send a garrison here, and start developing this rock. Which is not our job. We get a reward and get on with it."
"We get a reward, Sir?"
"Sure we do. Less then the commercial types. Far less. But still. Everybody here will get at least a thousand ALD. Not much - but a ‘roid, and then another ‘roid, and it adds up and it’s not that hard of a job’
