DK (OR IS IT KD?) WC24 BID OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED
Liam Gessemschmitthaagen-Po and Bill Posters at the launch.
Remember NEWI Cefn Druids & Liverpool England's bid to host World Cup 14? No, we don't either. That's how much effort we put into that one.
Then there was our bid with Melmond to host World Cup 18, one that ran the winners Eauz and Bedistan close, but lost out to the more experienced pair.
Then, eventually, Druida won a hosting race, and World Cup 20 came to the Druidish lands! However, most Druidans believe that we only won because everyone liked our Starblaydi counterparts so much.
Across Atlantian Oceania, Krytenia have also bidded unsuccessfully a fair few times. First up - RoCK. A bid with Raptor Claw, who were not all that well known at the time either. The inexperience counted against them, and the bid didn't win.
World Cup 17 saw their bid with Cockbill Street get called off, then put back on again. All a bit late in the end, as Kaze Progressa and Vilita hosted.
World Cup 21 saw another Krytenian effort, this time with Eauz. But Cockbill Street came back to haunt them, as the cup went to their bid with Lethislavania.
Now the Krytenians seem to be bidding every cup. Just not very well. World Cup 22 - a bid with The Belmore Family. Despite their best efforts, TBF's hosting of World Cup 19 probably overshadowed the bid.
World Cup 23 - a bid with Commerce Heights, but kicked off it due to a communication breakdown, and were replaced with Fmjphoenix.
So in seven bids to date, none of which were up against each other, only one World cup has been held in Krytenia or the Druidish Lands, and that wasn't down to either of the two of them.
But the DFA and the KFA have decided to try to change all of that. Trevor Belmore, head of the DFA, put forward the following statement to introduce the bid.
People of the World Cup Community, we are here today to introduce Druida and Krytenia's bid to host World cup 24.
The last time Druida held the cup, we had one of the most successful cups of recent times. The latest cup, World Cup 23, seems to be going well too, even if there have been less goals than some might wish for.
Anyway, our main aim for World Cup 24 would be to keep this momentum going. To do this, we have to make this bid not about us, but about you.
First of all, we'll tell you a bit about our scorination method. We will be using a modified version of the World Cup 20 spreadsheet. The main modification will be so that, instead of using sequential ranks in the formula, KPB Ranking points will be used.
However, due to a statistician shortage because of the Druidan sobering up campaign (or what we like to call "not having the spreadsheet to hand right now"), The formula is what we in the trade like to call "pretty damn simple." If I remember correctly, the spreadsheet gives home teams 15 chances to score, away teams 12 and games at neutral venues give 13 each. A goal is scored if...
your KPB - their KPB
Random number + _______________________________________ > 0.9
(0<R<1) (rank #1's KPB + max RP bonus + 1) * 10
Therefore, if two teams with equal KPB rankings face each other, an average of one goal every 10 attacks will be scored, giving an average of 2.7 goals per game (except at neutral venues, where the average is reduced to 2.6.)
Using the top ranking side's KPB points in the equation means that the formula gets a fair spread of the ranking points from top to bottom.
Then we shall come on to the RP bonus. This is described by us in the trade as "not so pretty damn simple, but pretty damn fair".
It is derived from the World Cup 20 bonus, rewarding presence of RPs, a basic quality bonus, distinguishing the rubbish from the not-quite-so-bad, and length (with limits) over both short term and long term. But it is a fair bit bigger.
The way we now see the bonus is that it gives those who RP a slightly better chance of making it through to the finals, and thus making the finals a more entertaining entity. At the same time, we also want those who need the bonus more to get more of the bonus, so a sliding scale will again be introduced, though only on part of the bonus, not the whole thing as seen at World Cup 20.
We won't say any more about the RP bonus at the moment, because if we say too much, people might look to exploit it. They might not, of course, but the possibility would remain.
The stadia that will potentially be used in Druida and Krytenia will be announced shortly.
Thank you,
Trevor Belmore
Head of the DFA.
Reports that the same two nations were bidding to host the Cup of Harmony for World Cup 23 using the same formula were also confirmed by Belmore.
