DK (OR IS IT KD?) WC24 BID OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED
Liam Gessemschmitthaagen-Po and Bill Posters at the launch.

Remember NEWI Cefn Druids & Liverpool England's bid to host World Cup 14? No, we don't either. That's how much effort we put into that one.

Then there was our bid with Melmond to host World Cup 18, one that ran the winners Eauz and Bedistan close, but lost out to the more experienced pair.

Then, eventually, Druida won a hosting race, and World Cup 20 came to the Druidish lands! However, most Druidans believe that we only won because everyone liked our Starblaydi counterparts so much.

Across Atlantian Oceania, Krytenia have also bidded unsuccessfully a fair few times. First up - RoCK. A bid with Raptor Claw, who were not all that well known at the time either. The inexperience counted against them, and the bid didn't win.

World Cup 17 saw their bid with Cockbill Street get called off, then put back on again. All a bit late in the end, as Kaze Progressa and Vilita hosted.

World Cup 21 saw another Krytenian effort, this time with Eauz. But Cockbill Street came back to haunt them, as the cup went to their bid with Lethislavania.

Now the Krytenians seem to be bidding every cup. Just not very well. World Cup 22 - a bid with The Belmore Family. Despite their best efforts, TBF's hosting of World Cup 19 probably overshadowed the bid.

World Cup 23 - a bid with Commerce Heights, but kicked off it due to a communication breakdown, and were replaced with Fmjphoenix.

So in seven bids to date, none of which were up against each other, only one World cup has been held in Krytenia or the Druidish Lands, and that wasn't down to either of the two of them.

But the DFA and the KFA have decided to try to change all of that. Trevor Belmore, head of the DFA, put forward the following statement to introduce the bid.

People of the World Cup Community, we are here today to introduce Druida and Krytenia's bid to host World cup 24.

The last time Druida held the cup, we had one of the most successful cups of recent times. The latest cup, World Cup 23, seems to be going well too, even if there have been less goals than some might wish for.

Anyway, our main aim for World Cup 24 would be to keep this momentum going. To do this, we have to make this bid not about us, but about you.

First of all, we'll tell you a bit about our scorination method. We will be using a modified version of the World Cup 20 spreadsheet. The main modification will be so that, instead of using sequential ranks in the formula, KPB Ranking points will be used.

However, due to a statistician shortage because of the Druidan sobering up campaign (or what we like to call "not having the spreadsheet to hand right now"), The formula is what we in the trade like to call "pretty damn simple." If I remember correctly, the spreadsheet gives home teams 15 chances to score, away teams 12 and games at neutral venues give 13 each. A goal is scored if...

your KPB - their KPB
Random number + _______________________________________ > 0.9
(0<R<1) (rank #1's KPB + max RP bonus + 1) * 10

Therefore, if two teams with equal KPB rankings face each other, an average of one goal every 10 attacks will be scored, giving an average of 2.7 goals per game (except at neutral venues, where the average is reduced to 2.6.)

Using the top ranking side's KPB points in the equation means that the formula gets a fair spread of the ranking points from top to bottom.

Then we shall come on to the RP bonus. This is described by us in the trade as "not so pretty damn simple, but pretty damn fair".

It is derived from the World Cup 20 bonus, rewarding presence of RPs, a basic quality bonus, distinguishing the rubbish from the not-quite-so-bad, and length (with limits) over both short term and long term. But it is a fair bit bigger.

The way we now see the bonus is that it gives those who RP a slightly better chance of making it through to the finals, and thus making the finals a more entertaining entity. At the same time, we also want those who need the bonus more to get more of the bonus, so a sliding scale will again be introduced, though only on part of the bonus, not the whole thing as seen at World Cup 20.

We won't say any more about the RP bonus at the moment, because if we say too much, people might look to exploit it. They might not, of course, but the possibility would remain.

The stadia that will potentially be used in Druida and Krytenia will be announced shortly.

Thank you,

Trevor Belmore

Head of the DFA.

Reports that the same two nations were bidding to host the Cup of Harmony for World Cup 23 using the same formula were also confirmed by Belmore.

Does “max RP bonus” represent the maximum possible RP bonus, or the maximum bonus that anyone actually has? Could you estimate the average/maximum size of the RP bonus, for a more accurate comparison between the bids?

Two good questions.

To answer the first one, I must say that the way that I have worded it is, to say the least, a little vague. It would probably read better as "max (rank + RP bonus), in that it represents the highest number of ranking points anyone could possibly get from their original points plus their RP bonus.

For the second question, the sliding scale means that the size of RP bonus changes from nation to nation. Here's some examples using rankings points prior to WC23.

Nation Rank KPB Points Max RP Bonus Rank + Max RP bonus
Invincible BoB unranked 0.00 6.00 6.00
Sonaron 63 6.00 4.38 10.38
Fmjphoenix 36 16.39 3.96 20.35
Commerce Heights 17 33.56 3.73 37.28
Sarzonia 1 52.12 3.61 55.73

Of course, these are the maximum RP bonuses, which a team would only receive if they actually made the World Cup final.

Druidan Stadia

Druida always tries to get international football around the country as much as possible, and so they try to use as many stadia as possible. All in all, twelve Druidan grounds will be used for rounds from the group games through to the 3rd/4th place play-off. They are as follows

Group A

The Hole, Moorestown
Capacity - 121,000
Home of - The Druida Rainbows

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/TheHole.jpg

The Hole is Druida's national stadium, where the national team play their home games, as well as playing host to numerous other sporting events, including the fifth Field Hockey World Cup final. The roof over the stadium retracts to let air into this 200 metre deep hole in the Capitalsclan countryside. The capacity has been increased by 43,000 since it first opened during World Cup 12 Qualifying and, due to the growing demand for tickets from sobering fans, as well as World Cup 20 coming to Druida, The Hole has been dug ever deeper, and now accommodates over 120,000. If this bid is successful, we do not see The Hole being dug any deeper. Most famous for being too small to accomodate the entire population of Vilita, who popped over to see their side win World Cup 20 here.

Griffin Park, Soberity City
Capacity - 43,000
Home of - Soberity Albion

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/GriffinPark.jpg

Griffin Park after was built around World Cup 18, as Albion's old ground had collapsed in suspicious circumstances. However, Albion now assure us that their bigger, newer stadium is safe. The ground is named after the national animal of Druida, the griffin, which our nation description says "frolics freely in our many lush forests." However, the large proportion of Druidish griffins are dirty urban dwellers, which live in the less-than-desirable inner suburbs of Druidish cities. The area around Griffin Park is one of the most notorious griffin habitats in Druida, though spectators and officials alike are reminded that they don't harm people too often.

Montisch Stadion, Neodzki
Capacity - 51,000
Home of - Dinamo Neodzki

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/MontischStadion.jpg

Montisch is in the New Europa region of Druida, where there is no clear set language spoken. It is unknown how people talk to each other there, as there seems to be at least twenty different words for just about everything, but somehow it has become one of the most prosperous areas of the country. However, it is also stil has a relatively high proportion of drunks living in the area.

GROUP B

Histodome, Druid Tribune
Capacity - 60,000
Home of - Druid Tribune

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/Histodome.jpg

A new stadium in an old city, and the new home to Druida's 2016 champions is will be this place. It appears to be the exact opposite of what the city is all about, classic architecture from down the ages. But if this isn't a classic piece of modern architecture, right on the banks of Lake Bekk (or Bec, as it is known in Druid Tribune itself), then I'll be damned! Though it does look a little like a plastic fruitbowl...

The Plughole, Trontby
Capacity - 34,000
Home of - Trontby

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/ThePlughole.jpg

The Plughole is quite ironically named, as ever since it was first used for international competition at AOCAF 8, the home team's form seems to have gone down the plughole. The plug in the centre of the stadium's roof is filled with hot air and can be raised and dropped accordingly to let sunlight or, more usually, keep the atmosphere in.

Park Park, Parkville
Capacity - 35,000
Home of - Parkville

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/ParkPark.jpg

Despite not being the biggest ground in the country, Park Park is definitely the most luxurious, with not only every seat having padding, but also a drinks holder, ear plugs relaying the commentary of games in eight different languages and a monitor built into the seat in front, allowing spectators to watch replays of whatever they want, whenever they want. It's what you would expect from the richest club in Druida.
Druida

Group C

CheminduStadium, Graymouth
Capacity - 72,000
Home of - Graymouth

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/CheminduStadium.jpg

In the heart of Druida's industrial region on the west coast, the CheminduStadium is owned by Druida's largest company Chemindus. The second biggest stadium in the country is home to Graymouth, and is next door to the infamous ChemindusArena, a former nuclear power station once used for Handball World Cup matches. Any sides hoping to use va'karelas or va'takils be warned - Graymouth is leading the way in rendering them all useless.

Away Ground, Port Scadock
Capacity - 46,000
Home of - Vilitan Exiles

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/AwayGround.jpg

The Away Ground is in Druida's biggest port, and is likely to be crammed full of Vilitans and sailors no matter what the game. If Vilita get to play here, it is virtually a home game. But most teams won't struggle to find fans from the local sailing community, who go all around the world.

Cranbury Park Lane, Cranbury
Capacity - 42,000
Home of - Cranbury United

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/CranburyParkLane.jpg

The home of Cranbury United is not a new location for football, but they have built the stadium from scratch since the DPL got up and running again. Gives them a stadium that they can finally boast is bigger than their rivals Parville and Bessburg's. Not that the other two particularly care.

GROUP D

Sorrellime Fountain, Sorrellime
Capacity - 50,000
Home of - Sorrellime Avengers

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/SorrellimeFountain.jpg

Overlooked for World Cup 20 because they only wanted to use the grounds of teams in the DPL at the time, the Fountain is a spectacular looking stadium where, when the roof opens, the ground looks like a fountain. Sorrellime is a quiet, yet unexpectedly large city on the banks of the River Gray. In fact, a lot of Druidans don't even know it's there. Odd, eh?

MDS Bowl, Thackworth
Capacity - 53,500
Home of - Thackworth Rovers

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/AnwirCymruArms.jpg

Now, you may not recognise the name Thackworth, but then we wouldn't expect you to. Because it doesn't exist yet. Well, the name doesn't, anyway. The city does. It is currently one of Druida's most famous cities, but as the people are sobering up, the people are realising that what they are speaking isn't Mock Welsh. It is total gibberish. So they've decided to give the place a proper name. See also Moorestown (formerly Mawr) and Soberity City (you might know it as Cefn).

The Goalshell, Crook
Capacity - 38,000
Home of - Crook Cavaliers

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanStadia/Goalshell.jpg

A stadium built for AOCAF 8, the Goalshell's home team have also undertaken a name change, from Cruqws to Crook. It is a former convict city in the North West of Druida, where criminals from all around the world were sent to rot. Nothing like that now, Cruqws is actually quite a nice modern place, as you can see from this brand spanking new stadium.

In case you don't know your way around Druida (highly likely, considering that most Druidans are a little unsure), here's a map listing a number of Druidan towns and cities (that number being 66).

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/NEWI/DruidanCities.jpg

Name changes from those on the map are as follows...

Was Now
Cefn City Soberity City
Llllllllllcwllllllll Thackworth
Mawr Moorestown
Cruqws Crook
Huwdaey Hughdy
Llanfrangydd Longlands
Erracq Eric
Pontypanddar Pryston

"Woah...I didn't know we had a channel 23234!" A random fat man in his chair announced. Sweat dripped from his brow, and stains were spread across his shirt. For four hours he had been hooking up his Cable Xtreme system, and for the 17 hours following those four he had been taking full advantage of his hard work.

"What's on it, dear?" His wife said from the kitchen. Had he been there all night? She shook his head, he loved that thing more than her.

"A newsman, from Druida," was his response. "They're talking about soccer."

"Hey...Jimmy plays soccer!" his wife said, running into the room, cooking mits still on her hands. "Wait...he doesn't look Druish!"

I don’t understand…you can’t get a high RP bonus unless you reach the finals?

The RP bonus has both short term and long term scales. Because part of the bonus stacks over time, the maximum bonus cannot be reached until you reach the final itself.

High RP bonuses can be reached before the finals, it's just the max that can't be reached till the final.
