OOC Thread for Sea of Nightmares

Gran Cienaga

This applies only to Gran Cienaga, Alcona and Hubris, Caladonn, Buechoria and Tulgary.

OK, this is the thread where we discuss anything related to the RP: plots, logistics, stuff like that. Also, if you have a map of your nation you can post that here too.

Here's mine:

The red "X" is the site of the encounter between Black Tiger, Providence and Tiranoc.

Oh. I thought it was more northerly, but that's fine too.

Anyway, what do you plan to do with Eldridge? Or is it super-secret?

Also, how do you make a map that well? It looks great.

Hey thanks, this thing was a pain to make though. I just went into Paintbrush and started drawing with the line tool for a LONG time, then I colored it in and roughened up the edges (again, with the line tool). It looks blurrier than it actually is becaused it was saved as a .jpg

Also, I'm planning on Eldridge to be the beginning of a larger defection within the Navy, so I need him to escape so that he can go back to Gran Cienaga and go...incite riots or something like that. Its not that secret OOC, but I'm trying to keep it a secret from other nations IC

Mostly a tag.

I haven't yet constructed a map for Tulgary, as it is not an island nation and borders will depend partly on neighbours that I don't yet have. Eventually one of them -or a distant naval power (Tulgary's navy is hardly worthy of the name)- is supposed to take advantage of in-fighting and turn the Catholicon into a Grand Duchy owing vasselage, but I'm not sure whether this RP is going to be far reaching enough to work all that out.

Ah well, I'm half way throught my first post, but Tulgary isn't likely to shift the balance much right away, because as I say, we have a terrible navy. The army is where our strength lies.

Anyway, tag over!

I'd be happy to be the seafaring nation that eventually takes you over :D .

For the map, that seems really hard and I'm kind of busy, so I doubt I'll get to anything that good  .

Anyway, for Eldridge I was thinking of turning him over to the Gran Cienaga authorities, then he could escape. Are you planning for him to overthrow the regime?

If you don't have a map that's perfectly fine, I just need a general idea of your nation (island or continent, large or small, climate, etc.) But of course, if you could get a map I wouldn't object either :)

As for Eldridge, that plan works, it wouldn't make sense for him to be able to escape while in the middle of the ocean so returning him and then having him escape is the best option.

What I was planning to do with him was have him convince other ships to defect from the Navy, this would bring public attention to the weakness of the government and cause a change (much like with the Articles of Confederation back in the 18th century).

Also, if your country has any historical details that should be known please post them here. For instance, Gran Cienaga has prided itself up to this day for never being invaded by a foreign country. However, that doesn't mean we can't be defeated at sea or something like that.

Well, Caladonn prides itself on not being defeated at sea :) .

Your plan with Eldridge makes sense. So, Eldridge is going to stir things up, but not overthrow the regime.

I was toying with the idea of a party change in Caladonn, to take advantage of the weakness of Gran Cienaga and invade, but we'll have to see how things go. It probably won't happen.

Hm. Perhaps we'll end up trying to hire or co-operate with somebody else's fleet in order to give our troops mobility (or they'll hire us for the sake of a lot of reasonably well armed soldiers with an over-blown reputation), only to find ourselves in a tight spot without it.

I suppose I could draw up a map and then if -when I get neighbours, some day- the borders don't lock together, so to speak, we'll just call it a border dispute and have something to RP. All right, this could take a while!

Ok, here's my idea for a new RP...

Caladonn's population is growing rapidly, and wishes to expand beyond the Appalachian Mountains into the virgin lands beyond. However, the natives stand in the way, and although diplomacy has been somewhat effective, unfortunately fighting has broken out between the settlers and the natives all along the mountain range, particularly the Mohawk, Iroquois Confederacy, Shawnee, and Cherokee tribes. To compound the problem, at the same time Celt Renegades have occupied the southern part of the Appalachians, and are not letting anyone cross. Although Caladonn's sea power has yet to be matched, on land they are not as well known. Although very competent fighters, the Caladonnians are simply not in enough numbers to defend the exploring colonists and quell the Celt Renegades. Therefore, a call has been sent out to other nations and mercenary companies. While Caladonn exerts her seapower up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, combined Caladonnian and Foreign forces will push down from the mountains. Any nations willing to help will be duly rewarded, in money, goods, alliances, and trade.

What do you think?

Also, a map may be needed.

Sounds good to me, we can supply the mercenaries. After the disaster with the whole naval defection and such (plus the capital burning down), Gran Cienaga disbands its government to create a better one (READ: constitutional republic as opposed to a confederacy). The military is also disbanded and defense is to be taken up by civilian militias.

Some people attempt to train by fighting in foreign service for a time, so they sign up as mercenaries to fight for the Caladonnians. Civilians receive monetary compensation I guess, and Gran Cienaga strengthens its diplomatic ties with Caladonn.

One question though, can you tell me about the culture of your nation (political philosophies, mannerisms, things like that)? It'll help me figure out the consequences of this later on.

Well, Caladonn has a very democratic philosophy, where all can vote for their Senators. Also, Caladonn is very based on the sea, trade, and building.

They pride themselves on a highly civilised and egalitarian society, but hold grudges for a while when they feel slighted.
