Pitchers
Starting Rotation
12 John Morgan (RHP): Woodstock Mountaineers Led the Sarzonia League in victories with 14 in its inaugural season and finished third in strikeouts with 100.
22 Charlie Palmer (LHP): Portland Fishermen Known for having the best changeup in all of Sarzonian baseball, he was named the first-ever Jim Palmer Award recipient for postseason MVP after leading the Fishermen to a Sarzonia Series crown.
27 Brian Edwards (RHP): Lexington Flight Despite the Flight's last place finish in the Incorporated League, Edwards was a 10 game winner (10-6, 3.11 ERA). He doesn't strike out many and relies on a sinking fastball to get ground ball outs.
34 Brad Baxter (RHP): Nicksia Nighthawks Baxter led the Sarzonian major leagues in wins (16), innings pitched (164) and strikeouts (142). He just pitched two days before the team assembled, so he was pushed back in the rotation.
40 Ken Sutcliffe (RHP): Portsmouth Pilots Sutcliffe is the veteran of the rotation, turning 36 at the end of the season. He's known for being a heady pitcher but he can still throw the ball past hitters when he has to.

Bullpen
32 Kenny Spencer (RHP): Saugerties Streakers Spencer is arguably the best setup man in the history of the sport in Sarzonia. He has only three saves in his career, but makes a living closing the door in the eighth inning.
29 Jay Ballard (LHP): Nicksia A specialist at getting lefthanded hitters out, Ballard made only one career start in secondary school. He threw a two hit shutout in the state championship in that start.
33 Roger Tolliver (LHP): Avalon Aeros The lefthanded long reliever for the Aeros, he led the league with most innings pitched by a reliever (82) without making a start. His 36 appearances was tied for the most among all relief pitchers.
17 Kerry Clark (RHP): Woodstock The league leader in saves with 27, Clark has a devastating curveball and fastball. He's working on developing a changup.
39 Alvin Dryden (LHP): Rypien Rhinos Dryden is the lefty closer on the national team and will alternate with Clark depending on the opponent. Dryden led all of Sarzonian baseball with 29 saves.

Position Players (starters in bold
C 10 Fred Carlton: Grovesmont Gryphons Carlton is the best defensive catcher in Sarzonian baseball. Calls a great game, threw out 41 percent of opposing baserunners. His problem: He hit .218 with only one home run.
1B 44 Hank Everly: Woodstock Led the Sarzonian League in home runs with 30 and finished tied for second in runs batted in with 95. His batting average of .269 is lower than his coaches want.
2B 8 Dewey Griffin: Avalon The sparkplug for the Aeros, Griffin led both major leagues with 34 stolen bases and nine bunt hits. He was tied for second in the league in sacrifice hits (bunts or flies).
SS 2 Chris Spontanelli: Townshend Tigers: One of the many shortstops in the Cal Ripken mold, Spontanelli led his team with 15 homers and 72 RBI. At 6'5", he's the tallest starting shortstop in Sarzonia.
3B 9 Kate Schmidt: Bristol Bears: The only female to earn a starting spot on the national team, she hit .317 to lead her team and smacked a surprising six home runs since her August callup.
LF 19 Tyrell Gordon: Portland Set a record for most outfield assists in college or high school baseball with 133. Had only two outfield assists this season when major league teams decided not to risk running on him.
CF 23 Drew Bradley: Avalon A speedster, Bradley is known for his graceful play in center and led his league in outfield assists with 10.
RF 24 Mark Dwight: Nicksia Not much with speed or a throwing arm, but Dwight specialises in being at the right place at the right time. He led the league with a .344 batting average.

Reserves
OF 36 Skip Hale Woodstock: Hale played in a career high 39 games for Woodstock due to injuries to other outfielders. He's known as the best pinchhitter in the league and can serve as the starting DH if necessary.
OF 7 Tyler Hunter Bristol: Can play either corner outfielder position, but his throwing arm is arguably the worst in the league.
C 13 Mario Salvidotti Avalon: Improving as a receiver, Salvidotti led his team with 20 home runs and 81 RBI.
IF 3 Russ Fraley Bristol Handled his demotion to reserve behind Schmidt with surprising grace and honed his skills as a shortstop so he could play short or third and is learning first base in training camp.
IF 5 Bryan Carroll Portland Extremely valuable asset to his team, he can play any position in the infield. Could serve as the emergency catcher if necessary.

Anyhow...

...Liverpool England has decided to boycott the Baseball tournament in Tonissia...

Foreign Ministry wants to know if boycott extends to nations participating in World Series. We not sure if any RBA products sold in Liverpool England or vice-versa (don't think so) but want to know where we stand, in case.

Also, Foreign Ministry realized with great embarrassed shame it forgot to specify batting/throwing sides of players. Provided here by Steal-Basers official statistician Grommet are players' handedness and other critical stats.

Steal-Basers struggle against Ice-Breakers in first trans-border exhibition game

by Ingababa

Bananapolis - Friday: A cool night at the tail end of the rainy season saw the RBA’s newly-assembled national baseball team hosting its first exhibition game, against the Ice-Breakers of Hockey Canada. The Bipedaleen players are among the best apes on the diamond, an all-star cast culled from across the National League. But the esteemed and clever humans of Hockey Canada came ready to play; rumored to have a shot at winning the upcoming World Series to be played in Tonissia, they showed no sign of taking this friendly match casually.

Gametime was just past dusk, and Combustion Field was packed an hour beforehand. An official attendance of 31,054 looked to be closer to 35,000, with apes standing in the aisles and on the catwalks. The teams worked out to the heady odor of burning bananapeels, and by the time the teams were introduced and the national anthems played, even the players seemed to be feeling the effects.

Starting pitcher Gromsbrook, anchor of the Bananton Independent team, sent the Ice-Breakers down in order in the first. But after Kynsov handled the top of the Steal-Basers order as easily in the bottom of the frame, Gromsbrook began to have trouble with her control. After Iradonisev, the Ice-Breakers’ talented shortstop, sent a fastball ninety-six meters into deep center, driving Ringtingtingle to the warning track, the pitcher seemed shaken, and began picking at the edges of the plate. After a walk to Maltsev and a grounder to first, advancing the runner, by Yuradezinasev, a single by Iasov brought the third basewoman home.

Gromsbrook’s control problems continued in the third. Facing the top of the lineup to lead off the inning, she surrendered a single to Haradev after a long battle. The catcher eventually came around to score on a single by Iradonisev with two outs, putting the Steal-basers behind by two. But after walking Maltsev, Gromsbrook struck out Yuradeziansev with two on to end the inning.

It might have been a turning point, but in the bottom of the inning, Gromsbrook came to the plate with Ringtingtingle on base with the Steal-Basers’ first hit of the game. Though a strikeout by the pitcher would have surprised no one, she took a swing at the first pitch-- trying to fight her way through the at-bat-- and unfortunately grounded directly to Iradonisev who neatly turned the double-play.

Gromsbrook loaded the bases in the fourth, but got out of trouble when she induced Yetkarinsk to hit into a double play, using her trademark sinker throughout the inning. In the fifth, however, she was not so lucky. With her pitch count rising and her control still poor, she again loaded the bases, bringing up Iasov with one out. Gromsbrook tried again to get the batter with sinkerballs, but this time she hung one up, and the center fielder sent the sixth pitch deep into left for a long double. Blump made an excellent play to retrieve the ball at the wall and threw a perfect shot to the third baseape Bleetle, as Maltsev turned the corner heading for home. A good throw would have had the human out at the plate, but Bleetle came up short, bouncing the ball in the dirt in front of the plate, and past Lidlebum. Gromsbrook, covering in the batter’s box, kept the ball from getting away, but as Maltsev scored, Bleetle was charged with the error. After the play, Ms. Spleendockle came out and put Bandrumma in. The reliever struck out Starshinov to end the inning.

Bandrumma lasted another two scoreless innings, being followed by Ottleby. The Steal-Basers’ lone run came in the seventh when Crestmoop led off with a home run to right, knocking Kynsov out of the game.

Final Score:

Oh yeah, my manager is the F-bomb dropper, and fan favorite OZZIE "I maa da fukeing lineup" Guillen (it's funnier if you read that with his Venezuelan accent).

My broadcasters are Ken "Hawk" Harrelson (YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD YES!) and Darrin "DJ" Jackson. We play at the corner of 35th and Shields on the South Side of the Windy City at Comiskey Park II. Our organist is none other than Nancy Faust (she started the "Take me out to the Ballgame" tradition and created the tradition of playing a little known song by "Steam" called "Na na na na hey hey goodbye" and now everyteam copies those 2 ideas.)

The team gets introduced to a great song. AC/DC's "Thunderstruck!!!!"
