OOC: Just a suggestion, but why not just use these here NS forums to post results and such, like every other tournament. One-off off-site forums tend to die very, very quickly.

Greetings,

Appreciate the advice Starblaydia, will be posting results here then :)

Oh and in case anyone wants to know how the formulas work ahead of time...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically the soccer tourney I set up almost as a lottery in a sense.

You chose 10 numbers between 1 and 5.

So what did I do with those numbers? Simple.

If you are team A, then your numbers are stuck in column A of excel.
-meaning your 1st number goes in A1, your 2nd in A2 etc.

-the formulas which affect whether you score of not go in column B as noted:

=IF(A1=1, "1", "0")

Note the number I have indicated in RED. That is the key. That number will be 1,2,3,4,or 5. If you guessed correctly (in column A of that row) then your team scored during the time period alloted (1st number is for 1st 10 minutes, 2nd number is for second 10 minutes,...9th number is for 81st to 90th minute, 10th number is for injury time).

-assumed FAQ: What happens if the opposing team (whose numbers are set in column C, and formulas are set in column D) score during the same time as you?
-then they score too, and you will see that in this example your player scored at the 12th minute (12') and your opponent scored at the 17th minute (17'). (why the 12th and 17th minutes, no reason, could have been 11th and 16th, just happens to be numbers I put down between and including 11th-20th minutes.)

-assumed FAQ: What happens if you guess wrong each time
Answer: you score 0 goals

-assumed FAQ: Do I ever change the formulas?
Answer: Right now no, however I have formulas for 6 games so the likelihood of you getting the same formula is quite low to none existant...

Cockbill Street
09-07-2005, 11:44
Cockbill Street will send their "A" side to the tournament, given that all the internationals are at the World Cup.

Full squad details:

Goalkeepers:

1. Obsidian, aged 33, av rating 5.71, Vimesbairn United*

The ageing goalkeeper never really got a look-in with the international side, but he enjoyed a decent career with Vimesbairn United

13.Olaf Axethwackersson, aged 24, av rating 5.62, K'haz'bak K'druz'ba

Axethwackersson has overcome his obvious physical deficiencies to become a handy keeper, though he's probably behind the troll on ability and experience still

Defenders:

2. Alexander Boiling, aged 26, av rating 5.85, Roegrow Athletic, central defender*

Inexplicably overlooked for the World Cup matches, Boiling is a tall central defender who it would normally be impossible to overlook. His only deficiency is a naturall instinct for getting too involved in the game

3. Tridymite, aged 24, av rating 5.72, Jotneheim Mountains AFC, central defender/left back

Tridymite is a solid defender who will probably get a good career in the Compound League. However, he has no special qualities - he's just a run-of-the-mill professional

4. Callum Cummings, aged 31, av rating 5.70, Vimesbairn Athletic, right back*

Cummings was dropped before World Cup 23 to make way for the young and upcoming talent Adcook - that setback seems to have done worrying things for his career. Hopefully the call-up to the A side will mean that he can pull himself together

5. Thorstein Stonelover, aged 26, av rating 5.75, K'haz'bak K'druz'ba, central defender*

K'haz'bak K'druz'ba, despite poor results, always seem to have a good talent pool. Stonelover is another of those, though he has struggled to fulfil his potential

14.Olaf Einarsson, aged 28, av rating 5.87, full back, Vimesbairn United*

Einarsson, like Boiling, was overlooked for World Cup 23 selection, but an excellent season with Vimesbairn United that included nine assists, gave him the chance with the A side

Midfielders:

6. Keith Hancock, aged 27, av rating 5.79, left winger, Jotneheim Mountains AFC*

Hancock has finally got the recognition many felt he deserved, as the nimble, quick and technical winger got the call-up yesterday

7. Euclase, aged 26, av rating 5.70, central midfielder, Jotneheim Mountains AFC*

Another Jotneheim troll, and of the best quality. Covers the middle third of the pitch in style, and usually stops the opposition by standing in front of them. Excellent passing foot to boot

8. Iret Hiria, aged 26, av rating 5.74, winger, Rizh'peith K'druz'ba

Rizh'peith K'druz'ba bought the half-Turorian in the off-season, after many languishing seasons in the lower-league. Hiria is an A and U-21 team veteran, and will probably stay there

11.Vegard Stronginthearm, aged 23, av rating 5.74, right winger/central midfielder, Rizh'peith K'druz'ba*

Vegard just keeps getting better and better. He plays right winger for his club, one of the best in the Street, and his dribbling skills is second to none. He needs to learn how to give it away, though

15.Harald Stonefinder, aged 25, av rating 5.85, right winger, Laf'goh'lith K'druz'ba*

Another of these invisible Laf'goh'lith players. Harald, however, is a quiet worker who has been rewarded with an A team place, and when Philip McLavish retires following World Cup 23, Stonefinder could well find himself in the national team

Attackers:

9. Edward Clarke, aged 29, av rating 5.89, striker, Roegrow Athletic*

Clarke's been unlucky enough to be in a generation of great Streetian strikers - Peters, Nourse, Chitterling, Canning, Ramírez - thus hasn't got the chance he deserves. The Roegrow player needs to take this chance to impress, though

10.Donald Ure, aged 30, av rating 5.80, forward, R'dhuz'lith K'druz'ba*

Another unlucky man, Ure played in the last tournament the A team was in, though with little reward - he was usually a substitute. That speaks volumes for the current quality of strikers in the Street - despite the national team's scoring record flying in the face of that

12.Liam Williams, aged 24, av rating 5.71, striker, Roegrow Athletic

Williams' good history of pairing up with Edward Clarke at the top was the deciding factor in the Streetian selectors taking him as the last man in the 15-man squad.

PopularFreedom - North Beach Sharks roster:

North Beach Sharks Football Club are from the city of Loyalty Bay which though the nation of PopularFreedom has an extensive rugby following, is the most popular sport in the city.

Football is a very serious affair within the city as noted by past instances of violence in the city over what one would deem as being trivial matters.

see newslink: http://www.geocities.com/PopularFreedomTicker/2005-03-19-001.htm

The North Beach Sharks Football Club, despite what those in the neighbourhood of Pleasantview might say, are the premier club in the city, nation, and region as evidence by their recent win in the Helmet Rahn Cup in the Heartland earlier this year.

see newslink: http://www.geocities.com/PopularFreedomTicker/2005-04-17-002.htm

'Popular Who?' not dismissed yet

Fabricio de Souza Lima (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Fabricio_de_Souza_Lima), best-known as a former Starblaydi international and Manager of Spruitland's most successful club FC Albertine (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/FC_Albertine), has been handed the task of leading Starblaydia's Under-19s in this Perusa Invitational Tournament in Trotsgrad.

"This is a great oppurtunity for me to expand my knowledge of management," de Souza Lima said, "perhaps moving upwards to Under-21 and Senior management eventually. I've been getting the advice of Khim [Azanulbizarn, Starblaydi Under-21 Manager] on most of these players, but I'll be trying to get my own ideas across too."

When asked about Starblaydia's first opponents, the PopularFreedom club team North Beach Sharks FC, Fabricio didn't seem to know a whole lot, but had obviously prepared an answer.

"Well I do try to keep up with the major club leagues and competitions across the world, but I'm afraid I've never heard of the Helmet Rahn Cup, unfortunately. Having said that, anyone who defeats a Liverpool England side deserves a pat on the back, and you must have repsect for anyone that's won a regional tournament, even if it is in The Heartland and not Atlantian Oceania or even FIFA."

Game Recap: After a shock for Cockbill Street in the opening minutes when the Trotsgrad side came roaring down and scored a goal during the 2nd minute of play, Cockbill Street regained their composure and dominated the remainder of the game. Edward Clarke helped to lead his team, scoring the first goal and setting up teammate Liam Williams for the second helper. Harald Stonefinder finished off the Warhawks with the final Cockbill Street marker during the last minute of play. His goal however seemed to be not well received by his bench, as his coach seemed incensed that he came so far forward out of position during the goal mouth scramble in front of the Trotsgrad net that led to his goal.

Seven is the Key for Cherry
'Senior' debut gives Garcia and Reynaldo goals

Though Starblaydia have sent an Under-19 side to Trotsgrad, this Tournament is being taken very seriously by the Starblaydi Football Association, as they are handing out full caps to these players, rather than Under-19 or Under-21 caps.

Good for Cherry Garcia (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php?title=Cherry_Garcia) and Reynaldo then, as they marked their debuts in the senior international stage with goals. Strangely enough, despite the midfield being totally flooded by the North Beach Sharks, it was Starblaydia's who dominated the match, with their goalscorers coming from either flank. After just seven minutes of play Garcia - wearing the number seven shirt no less - put Starblaydia ahead with a well-taken goal from inside the penalty area after good work by Menecrates in the middle.

Though Shawn Peruvo, the star (and only) striker of the Sharks equalised just over ten minutes later, Reynaldo darted in unseen from the other flank, ghosting into the box to pick up a cool pass from young Raphaelo on the six-yard line. A simple tap-in later and Starblaydia were up 2-1 against players ten years their senior, who had won all sorts of things more than they had.

Experience and conditioning began to tell over youthful enthusiasm, however, when the PopularFreedom club team equalised to put the match at 2-2, which is how it finished. So far, so good for Starblaydia's youth, taking their first point of the tournament for joint-second place in Pool A after one match.

NEWS REPORT FROM LOYALTY BAY INFORMER...

2005-07-11

North Beach Sharks tie Starblaydia in International Soccer Tournament.

INTERNATIONAL REPORT from Perusa, Trotsgrad - The soccer champions from North Beach played decently today rallying in the 2nd half to earn a tie against a well known Starblaydi team.

'Our team played adequate', noted coach Dennis Viltacore after the game was finished. Star striker Shawn Peruvo (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Shawn_Peruvo) however was not so kind noting that, 'the team was asleep for most of the game and should have been hustling more for the ball'.

The game started rather poorly for the Sharks when Cherry Garcia opened the scoring at the 7 minute mark for the Starblaydi team.

Shark superstriker Shawn Peruvo (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Shawn_Peruvo) managed to tie it up at the 19 minute mark only to have the Starblaydi take the lead again on a goal during the 35th minute by Reynaldo.

Entering the second half the Sharks needed a spark. The team started to pound the Starblaydi goaltender with shots which finally resulted in a goal in the 54th minute by North Beach midfielder John Collins.

As the game progressed the Sharks continued to pepper the Starblaydi team with shots however to no avail as the final whistle sounded and our boys earned a tie.

As players filed into the locker room many were extremely upset at the result, however coach Viltacore noted that, 'this was the first game our boys have played together in about 2 months so it was expected they would be rusty however better results will be achieved in tomorrow's match'.

Bipedaleen side victorious in Trotsgrad friendly opener
First-ever goal by male in trans-border play

by Bonga

Trotsgrad - Weather was comfortably cool and sunny for opening match of friendly footie tourney in Community of Trotsgrad as apes faced Montenagro Armada at 3pm local time. RBA side made up of selections from premiere and second leagues arrived in Trotsgrad two weeks ago with coach Blimptoople of Banana Motors. Team thus had time for practice, adjusting to local time zone, and debating whether Ms. Throckspartle will be reinstated with Local 1033 for upcoming season.

Though Trotsgrad is dry nation and thus no bananale could be had by thirsty players, spliffs were passed ‘round and fine peels smoked by all before start of match. Players took pitch in fine spirit, and with boots laced tight and numbers boldly bleached into fur, team looked in fine form for footie.

Armada captain won cointoss and chose to start with ball, so apes began on defensive. Keeper Dogdiggle got early test as worthy human opponents maneuvered into apes' territory with little difficulty and unnamed center forward took shot from six meters that Brinana (second team CFWN) failed to get foot on. Dogdiggle made solid save, wrapping ball up and sending players back toward Montenagro end. Apes maintained control for some time, testing esteemed human defenders and rarely having to retreat across center line, with attack culminating in cross-box lofty pass from Mingbuggle to Tribuana, who neatly headed ball past human keeper and thus became first Bipedaleen male ever to score in trans-border footie match.

Historic goal would also eventually be match winner, as Montenagro failed to capitalize on any chances. Though Armada probably controlled ball for majority of first half, excellent play of Dogdiggle and surprisingly good moves by Rozburn, Banana Motors defender and favorite of Blimptoople, prevented any score. In second half, Mingbuggle came off in favor of fourth defender Hummytoad, cementing ape back line. Second goal of match came for RBA on 61 minutes when up-playing middie Trinandurnan powered ball in from ten meters.

Win put apes into second place in group B table behind respected human nation of Kericia, on goal differential. Next match is against humans of Hurfordia.

Final score:
Republic of Bipedal Apes 2 (Tribuana 22, Trinandurnan 61)
Empire of Montenagro 0

OOC-- Dry means that alcohol is illegal.
(snip)Torture is illegal, the government is spending millions on renovating the public transportation system, school uniforms are compulsory, and all alcohol is banned.(snip)
Thus Trotsgrad is a dry nation and bananale is not available there.

Report on the latest match, courtsey of Hurfordia's leading sports daily, "White on Green".

Holsworthy comes of age as Mighty Conures draw

Debutant James Holsworthy proved to his manager that he was worth the gamble, as Hurfordia drew with La Habana in the first match of the Trotsgrad tournament.

Manager Peter Langrishe drew criticism from the press for playing 19-year Holsworthy, who plays for 2nd Division Hellas Academy Old Boys and has no experience of either first division or youth international football, ahead of the experienced Brian Howard.

Holsworthy scored the Conures' first goal, a powerful header from a corner, to bring them back from 2-0 down against Habana, who had raced into an early lead. Kevin Stimpson, top scorer in the league last season, equalised just before half time with a looping free kick which deceived the goalkeeper.

Although their opponents had a number of chances, and scored in the second half, Hurfordia picked up a goal through veteran Howard, on as a substitute for the disappointing Tudor Edworthy. The final score of 3-3 was probably fair on the balance of play, although La Habana looked far better value for their goals.

The team is currently resting before their next match against Bipedal Apes. Langrish will have his work cut out in picking his team, although it is likely that Edworthy will be dropped. Defensive lynch-pin O'Halloran picked up a knock on his left ankle, the same one to which he suffered the injury which cut short his season last year, although the injury is not likely to keep him out of the starting line-up in the next match. Both Constantine and Burren picked up bookings.

NORTH BEACH SHARKS LOSE BIG, OVER 131 FANS ARRESTED AFTER FIGHTS BREAK OUT IN STANDS.
Pleasantview and North Beach supporters clash with one another during match.

INTERNATIONAL REPORT FROM PERUSA, TROTSGRAD - The nation was disgraced twice today. Once by our prestige football team in their loss to an under 21 football club, and then by the fans who acting like ridiculous hooligans near the end of the match.

The game itself went well during the first half with Harlesburg scoring an earlier goal which was later countered by Govardi in the 39th minute. During the second half however the defense just fell apart. Superior goaltender Peter Locart let in two soft goals in a 13 minute span which helped to propel the opposition over our team.

With the score 3-1 for Harlesburg in the 71st a number of fans from the neighbour of Pleasantview, the crosstown rival of North Beach, started to chant, 'WHERE THE RAVENS' and started to jeer Locart everytime he made a save. The nation of Trotsgrad, obviously not aware of the history between North Beach and Pleasantview had stuck all PopularFreedom fans together. Hence when North Beach fans started hearing Pleasantview fans jeering Locart and Peruvo whenever they touched the ball they reacted. The game itself was not affected despite the hooliganism though by the end of the fighting 131 people had been arrested, while 15 taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Some players did notice the incidents that were happening in the stands however as Paul Henry noted, 'when I scored a goal at the 77th minute to bring the score to 3-2, there was no reaction from our fans. As we looked up we could see the fighting in full. It was disgusting, bodies tumbling everywhere, even security guards were being attacked.'

Trotsgrad security officials later commented on the melee that they, 'had noticed fans from PopularFreedom wearing both red (the colour of the North Beach Sharks), and blue (the colour of the Pleasantview Ravens) though did not make the connection', until after the brawl had occured.

Prime Minister Bayda expressed his outrage at the actions of the hooligans from Loyalty Bay and noted his disappointment in the days overall events.

Trotsgrad security officials noted that for remaining games they would ensure that all Pleasantview and North Beach fans would be seperated.

Meanwhile, the game itself ended in a 4-2 win for Harlesburg with their final goal coming in the 90th minute not that many PopularFreedom fans were paying attention by this point in the game.

Apes trot to draw in Trotsgrad

By Bonga

Trotsgrad - With victory over Montenagro a week in bag, RBA side in Trotsgradian friendly footie tourney was relaxed and enjoying selves in lead-up to second match, against human Commonwealth of Hurfordia. News having come down earlier in day that beer was, in fact, available to foreign players at special secret keg kept behind third row of seats behind goal at closed end of stadium, entire side was pleasantly drunk and engaged in raucous argument with foreign-speaking teetotalling esteemed human host supporters by match time.

Fortunately, second team was drunker than first, and while reserves sang Banana Motors corporate theme from bench, starters took to pitch and prepared to defend as respected human opponents kicked off. But first team, though somewhat sober, was not sober enough to successfully defend against opening attack, as forwards relentlessly pressed against slowed defenders. Dogdiggle surrendered first goal of tournament on nine minutes, as Holsworthy and Stimpson outmaneuvered Annabana and Brinana to get clear shot from four meters. Stimpson easily put ball into net as Dogdiggle came in too close to cover goal.

After kickoff apes began showing signs of life, and much of first half became struggle for control. Coming on forty minutes it looked like Hurfordia would take one-nil lead to break, but with time nearly out apes got lucky break as tackle by Hoosgoose against Holsworthy at center line gave Bipedaleen forwards ball while Hurfordian defenders were out of position. Mingbuggle took ball straight into human territory; defender Constantine stumbled while backtracking, and a quick pass to Tribuana resulted in open shot on keeper Sedley. With nice kick to left corner of net, male forward achieved second goal of tourney and pulled apes even with humans at one-all on forty-two minutes.

Though team sobered up considerably during mid break, spliff smokage was rampant in changing room, and Bipedaleen players returned to pitch slightly worse for wear. Mingbuggle’s kickoff was neatly intercepted by midfielder Burren, and quick trip upfield caught apes out of position. Barely two minutes into half, substitute forward Howard, in for Edworthy, put Hurfordia back on top, placing nice shot between scrambling but possibly dizzy defenders and Dogdiggle.

Apes again played catch-up game, working hard to bring focus up to level necessary to overcome human players. Tribuana eventually came through again, scoring third goal of tournament on 73 minutes after long offensive effort that saw keeper Sedley deflect shots by both Mingbuggle and Wingminggy. Surprising play of male forward continues to surprise with skillful display of scoring ability and unsuspected talent. Score remained even at two, giving apes three points in tournament table and first-place tie with La Habana.

With O'Mc'mann and 56' O'shea both scoring a brace of goals for Harlesburg today some of the shame was taken off the recent loss in the World Cup to Kryterrammkmk although even that 3-2 result showed strong signs for Harlesburg Football.

O'Mc'mann opened the scoring in the 11' minute when after receiving a beautifully timed pass from Daniel Dern he weaved his magic wrong footing the defence giving himself an extra yard before unleashing a well timed shot that dipped late and outdid the Keepers attempts to stop it.

In other News the Harlesburg Football Association and its respective members released this special transcript.

Due to a technical error mostly caused by some poor Personel Assiting by Harlesburg Football Association President Hankilorous Milonopoluspopolus Personel Assistant it has been wrongly claimed that the Harlesburg A Team is in fact in Trotsgrad.
The reality is that this is untrue the Harlesburg Under 21 Team is in fact in Trotsgrad and it is also noted that Harlesburg as it does not currently have an A team playing schedule for future fixtures against World opponents the under 21 team has been deemed to be the Harlesburg A Squad.

Once again deepest apologies to anyone confused or affected by this information straight off the press.
The Personel Assistant in question has been let go and is currently ‘enjoying’ a ‘pleasant’ trip to Harlesburg’s most remote possession “The Colony Of Citrius-Vastiva” where she will ‘learn’ good honest Harlesburgian values once taken in a high regard in this lush land though unfortunately they seem to have been forgotten.

SHARKS RIP XIXAN 'TO SHREADS' IN INTERNATIONAL SOCCER.

INTERNATIONAL REPORT FROM TROTSGRAD - The first game of the day had our North Beach Sharks verses the national team from the nation of Xixan in the Wysteria region. Despite the early hour Shark fans came out to cheer on their boys with both Shark and Raven fans in attendance at the game though on seperate ends of the field after yesterday's melee.

As it got nearer to gametime the fans started chanting, louder and louder they became until as the players took the field it was like a deafining roar. The Xixan fans and Raven fans were completely drowned out by the stomping and chanting of the Shark fans who were chanting, 'RIP, EM TO SHREADDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSS. GOOOOOOOOOOOOO SHARRRRRRRRRRRRRRKS', over and over again.

The Xixan fans and players alike seemed overwhelmed by the noise and the posturing of the Shark fans as the game was about to begin. The opening five minutes showed the Sharks at fine form after yesterday's horror show with Peruvo getting two excellent scoring chances during this timeframe. As the half roar on though both teams went into defensive type posturing not wanting to give up the first goal. Near the end of the half with the PopularFreedom Shark fans cheering at normal deciables at this point due to the lacklustre effort put forth by their boys, the PopularFreedom Raven fans started to overwhelm the entire crowd with their chants of, 'WHERE THE RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVENS, WHERE THE RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVENS,...'.

The second half started much the same way as the first with the Shark fans having gained back the sound advantage over both Xixan and Raven fans. Their vocal nature finally gained fruition in the 49th minute when Shawn Peruvo ran the ball down the left side almost to the goal line before crossing it into the box. Attacking midfielder John Collins dove to head the ball knocking it into the right bottom corner to open the scoring to ruckus celebration from the Shark faithful in the stands.

The Shark fans from that point on were beyond continually loud for the rest of the match as one Xixan player noted, 'I'm gonna hear those nuts in my sleep for quite some time'. Listero Pummelstin scored PopularFreedom's second marker in the 70th minute after he was able to cut through two defenders and tweak a shot just over the outstretched hands of the Xixan goaltender.

As the game began to rap up the Shark crowd continued to chant loudly, 'RIP, EM TO SHREADDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSS. GOOOOOOOOOOOOO SHARRRRRRRRRRRRRRKS', until Shawn Peruvo converted a give and go pass from Collins in the 82nd minute. At this point the Shark faithful exploded in roars of approval as Peruvo ran over and jumped into the celebrating Shark fans as the Raven and Xixan fans began to make for the exits. As one Raven fan noted, 'I don't feel like being around for some drunk Shark idiot to tick me off about his team's win'.

As the game wrapped up the Shark fans continued their cheers by this time making fun of their PopularFreedom counterparts wearing blue and yellow (team colours of the Pleasantview Ravens), 'NA NA NA NA; NA NA NA NA; RA, A, VENS; GOODBYE;', over and over again. It was quite a effort put forth by our boys, and most probably the loudest football ever on record.

Two goals standard score in Trotsgrad

by Ingbaba

Perusa, Trotsgrad - For the third straight match, the Bipedaleen entry to the friendly footie tourney in the esteemed human Community of Trotsgrad scored two goals, en route to a common-law draw with the United Republic of Kericia. The start of play was slightly delayed by a minor riot that broke out among the RBA reserves-- especially those representing the Banana Motors side-- when it developed that the keg of beer reserved for visiting players, which was located behind the third row of sets in back of the north goal last week, had been hidden in an entirely new secret location this time round.

The secret hiding place of the keg-- a technique designed to protect the beer from possible destruction by crazed teetotalling Trotsgradian human nationals-- was not discovered until mere minutes before kickoff, when Hummytoad, Quickquiggle, Hogoogle and McGeorgenanna, in a beer-inspired tantrum, began stomping their feet in unison, standing on a changing-room bench and chanting, “Want beer now! Want beer now!” at which point the bench collapsed, and in collapsing precipitated the discovery of the keg which had been hidden beneath it. The four apes, though slightly injured, were deliriously happy with themselves and quickly consumed the majority of the contents, leaving several teammates high and dry and several others notably underbeered.

Somehow Blimptoople managed to motivate the team onto the pitch, beer or none, and sent Anangansetnana to the center for the cointoss. The apes won and began with possession and in a mirror image of the previous week’s opening, scored within minutes of Mingbuggle’s opening kick. Whereas last game the apes found themselves a goal down on two minutes, this time Trinandurnan came through on three minutes with a stunning power shot from twenty meters that simply found keeper McMichel sprinting from one end of the box to the other and arriving too late to prevent the ball finding the left corner of the net.

The one-nil lead would hold up until the half, as the two sides settled into an even struggle for the next forty-two minutes. Several attempts by the apes came up unsuccessful, including a pair of shots by rising start Tribuana around thirty minutes, and a try by Mingbuggle that looked to be her first of the tourney. Meanwhile Dogdiggle looked sharp on saves against strikers Kreuger and Schooley, and two notable shots by center-right middie Glannon who repeatedly got the better of match-captain Anangansetnana.

The esteemed human Kericians came out ready for the second half, however, and pressed a strong all-around attack that finally resulted in their first goal of the match as left midfielder Popovich scored on a hooking spinner that passed both defender Rozburn and a diving Dogdiggle. With the score even, the Kericians played increasingly aggressively, the upshot being a tackle of Spootspooter by striker Schooly D that resulted in his getting ahead of the apes and running down Annabana for a clear shot past Dogdiggle and a two-one lead on sixty-three minutes.

Trinandurnan came through for the apes just a few minutes later, scoring her second of the match on an odd header off a pass by Anagansetnana that appeared to be intended for Mingbuggle, who was a meter behind her. The ball was arcing down toward the striker when the midfielder, apparently not seeing her, leapt for it and knocked it right past McMichel, who appeared to be watching the forward as well. The goal came on seventy minutes, and though each side pressed hard for the remaining time, Dogdiggle and McMichel rose to the occasion, each making a pair of saves against the opposing left and right strikers to cement the draw.

The apes left the pitch still holding a piece of first place in the group B table, even with La Habana and Hurfordia on points, but ahead on the combination of goal differential (RBA, La Habana and Hurfordia at 2, 2, and 1 respectively) and goals allowed (4, 7, and 6). The next match will be against New Preussen next week.

Conures on Song as Montenagro have their cages rattled

There was euphoria in Trotsgrad today, as Hurfordia secured their first win in the Trotsgrad Tournament, defeating Montenagro Armada 2-1.

Neither team had a win going into the match, although Hurfordia had scraped two draws, while Montenagro had been beaten twice. The first half looked set to produce yet another draw for the Conures, as neither team really looked comfortable on the ball. Passes too often went astray, and chances were thin on the ground. Montenagro had the best of the chances, Ceknik striking the post with a vicious drive that had beaten Sedley. At the other end, Holsworthy, who, if rumours are to be believed will be signed by one of the big clubs when he gets home, combined with Howard to draw a fine save from the Montenagro keeper just before half time.

The second half was almost like a different game, as both sides struck the bar in the first five minutes, and each piled on the pressure. It took until the 73rd minute for Hurfordia to break the deadlock, with the goal coming from the unlikely figure of Vincente Lebrun. The Racing Club midfielder has often been the butt of jokes about his lack of goals at club and County level, but he showed that he does knopw how to score, dribbling from the half-way line and beating three defenders, before rounding the keeper and sliding the ball home. From then on, it was all Hurfordia, with chances going begging. The match was settled in the 84th minute as substitute Cornelius Sulla, son of controversial New Republic Party Senator Marcus Sulla, pounced on a rebound after Holsworthy's header was saved. For the Hurfordia fans, the moment was one to savour, and a sea of green and white flags waved behind the goal.

The Hurfordian defenders relaxed after that, and almost allowed Montenagro back in, as Constantine, who has had a bad tournament by his high standards, gave away a free kick, which Ceknik smashed home deep into injury time. The whistle went almost as soom as the ball hit the net, leaving the Conures to contemplate third place in the Pool B table.

de Souza Lima Happy So Far
A 'good experience' for Under-19s

"This is exactly the type of thing we were looking for," Starblaydi Manager Fabricio de Souza Lima said, "lots of experience, lots of goals, lots of goals conceeded that we can go over the video an work on, stuff like that."

Starblaydia's Under-19 squad have acquited themselves well in the Perusa Invitational so far, gaining two high-scoring draws against professional, unkown teams and a narrow loss in a seven-goal thriller to the old enemy's 'A' squad.

It's been a great oppurtunity, so far, for Starblaydia's youngest players to take their place in the international stage, with caps and goals won here being their first steps on the path of Senior glory. Fabrico, unfairly, has been critised for his use of only Under-19s, but that's not his fault. The Starblaydi Football Association decided to send their Under-19s and Fabricio was then appointed to lead them.

You can certainly see the effects of Fabricio's style on this team, as all but one of the goals have come from midfield. Two from Starblaydia's first female player, Cherry Garcia, three from left-sided Reynaldo - more than he's scored in six Under-21 games so far - as well as two from the incredible Menecrates. He is someone, certainly, who is benefiting from de Souza Lima's mentorship, as Menecrates has often been described as a 'new de Souza Lima'.

"I'm working them up for the [18th] Under-21 Championships next year [OOC: By the Starblaydi timeline], so Khim should have a great squad to try and take back the title."

Street Make It Three Out Of Three
Pour In Goals

3-2, 4-3 and 3-1. Dream results, almost, and in the small and little-covered Soccer Tourney in Trotsgrad Cockbill Street's A side - which will be travelling home in a month's time to participate in the Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football - have achieved exactly those results. Granted, the opposition hasn't been fearsome - Trotsgrad's side is yet to compete internationally, and have only scraped two draws in this tournament, and we beat them 3-1. A 4-3 win over Starblaydia Under-19 followed, Reynaldo of Laf'goh'lith K'druz'ba netting twice but still not managing a win. It was Harlesburg who got closest to drawing the Street, having twice equalised, but a blinder of a shot from Keith Hancock sent the Streetian A team into scenes of jubilation.

With two games remaining of the group stage, the Streetian side has all but qualified for the semi-finals, and the question is now - when will it end? Because, as we all know, the Streetians can't win...

Clarification:

Got a few questions on the gaming code so thought I would explain it here.

FYI: IF you entered the same numbers as someone else does not mean your results will be the same as them. IF after you read this anyone wants me to change that let me know and I will do that for the playoffs. I have no problem with it however I will ask you read my rational for the way the system works first.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Example:

In the game two teams played on Wednesday, both had the following numbers (team A's was put in 'I' column and team B's in 'L' column in EXCEL):

1
1
1
3
5
5
3
2
3
3

HOWEVER

the numbers that team A competed against (IN EXCEL formula) were the following (put in 'J' column):

=IF(I2=2, "1", "0")
=IF(I3=1, "1", "0")
=IF(I4=3, "1", "0")
=IF(I5=1, "1", "0")
=IF(I6=4, "1", "0")
=IF(I7=5, "1", "0")
=IF(I8=4, "1", "0")
=IF(I9=5, "1", "0")
=IF(I10=3, "1", "0")
=IF(I11=2, "1", "0")

Meaning that with the numbers above team A scored during the 11th-20th minute, 51st-60th minute, and 81-90th minute.

Likewise team B's same numbers had the following code to deal with (which was put in 'L' column):
=IF(K2=5, "1", "0")
=IF(K3=4, "1", "0")
=IF(K4=4, "1", "0")
=IF(K5=3, "1", "0")
=IF(K6=3, "1", "0")
=IF(K7=1, "1", "0")
=IF(K8=1, "1", "0")
=IF(K9=2, "1", "0")
=IF(K10=2, "1", "0")
=IF(K11=5, "1", "0")

Meaning that team B scored during the 31st-40th minute, and 71st to 80th minute.

The purpose of this system is so that people can change their numbers if they wish at any time and not have figured out the system. Furthermore teams will not always be scoring the same amount of goals but a variety (though Montenagro has bucked this trend thus far wierdly).

So to clarify everygame has a different set of numbers that each team is competing against. If you think that both teams should be competing against the SAME numbers then let me know and I will consider if for future though I did that once in the past where someone submitted the same numbers so when their teams played they scored goal at the same time everytime which looked extremely unrealistic hence why I altered the system to this (and have already used it for two previous tournaments to this).

Sincerely, Trotsgrad

PS: I love conversation and dialogue so in no way think I am upset about the question. I greatly appreciate it as if one person notes it to me means others are thinking it and so if I have not fully clarified things I need to, furthermore if you as a group wish things altered then that is fine just let me know and it will be done for future. :)

Changes Made to Kericia Roster

KNS
Jul 14 05

In response to their somewhat dismal 1-1-1 start to the Trotsgrad tournament, head coach Ken Peterson has altered the starting roster to strike up more offense. After contreversially being brought back on the team after dismissal in the World Cup, Jason Popovich has scored two goals thus far. Because of this, Popovich has been moved to forward, and is now a starter. Coach Peterson also publicly denounced Byron McMichel's play so far, and threatened him with replacement. Kericia's changes will be tested next game versus Hurfordia.

I have to say, Trotsgrad, that, especially considering this thread makes up the bulk of your NS posts, you've been running an excellent tournament. It's gone like clockwork, and for whatever reason, practically everyone participating is RPing nearly every match. Cherry Cup 14, that's now in the finals, had 2.5 times as many participants and not nearly as much RPing, and that's one of the more firmly established NS sporting events. What's more, your score-generating system is unique, so far as I've seen.

Now that I've commented, the whole thing will probably go down the tubes and everyone will stop RPing... ;)

Conures Form Continues: Play-offs in sight

Last week, Hurfordia's national team had never played a competitive match. Now, they are one win away from the play-offs in the Trotsgrad tournament. Yesterday's match, against an inconsistent Kericia side, has ensured that, whatever the result from the final group match, the Hurfordian people can be proud of what their team has achieved.

The Conures attacked right from the off, with Stimpson attempting an outrageous lob over the Kericia goalkeeper McMichael, who was criticised this week by his coach. The keeper was equal to the challenge, diving athletically to turn the shot over the bar. The first real chance fell to Kericia, with in-form Popovic blasting a shot at keeper Sedley from just inside the 6-yard box after a neat interchange with Krueger.

The first goal came after 9 minutes, as Stimpson just stayed onside, running on to a neat long pass from Burren. As McMichael advanced, Stimpson slipped the ball between his feet and into the goal. Kericia though, refused to lie down, and were rewarded after 15 minutes when Krueger rose to head home a corner. After that, both sides seemed to run out of steam, and the rest of the half saw very little action, although Holsworthy and Schooley both ewent close with headers.

The second half saw both teams up the tempo. Just after the restart, Glannon had a shot cleared off the line for Kericia, before the controversial incident that may have settled the match. Alric and Schooley beat the Hurfordian off-side trap. Goal keeper Sedley raced forward, and appeared to knock Schooley over, but the referee waved play on, saying that the keeper had taken the ball. The Kericia forward was the booked for protesting to the referee.

Soon after, though, Kericia were rewarded for their pressure, as Glannon's speculative cross evaded all the defenders and drifted into the net off the far post. 2-1 Kericia.

It was then that the miracle happened. Battling midfielder Cornelius Sulla, who scored the winner against Montenagro, was brought on to replace the tired Lebrun in the 78th minute. His first touch was a thumping header which rattled into the net from the underside of the crossbar. As if given new hope, the Conures poured forwards in numbers, overwhelming a stunned Kericia side, but were unable to find the net. Then, just as it looked as if the game would end in a draw, Sulla stole the ball from a slow defender, before unleashing a searing shot which flew into the top right hand corner from all of 30 yards. As the ball hit the net, the referee blew his whistle. 3-2 Hurfordia.

The win leaves Hurfordia second in the Pool B table on goal difference, with only New Preussen still to play. A win will see them in the play-offs. A draw will be enough, provided Bipedal Apes fail to beat La Habana. If that game ends in a draw and Hurfordia win, then Hurfordia finish top of the group. Everything is still to play for.

SHARKS ELIMINATE HOSTS FROM PLAYOFFS, ONE STEP CLOSER TO GLORY THEMSELVES.

INTERNATIONAL REPORT FROM TROTSGRAD - The 'shark noise' continued yesterday off the field, while the sharks continued their feeding frenzy on it. As the players took the field the noise again was ear-bleeding even with it being a home game. At least one Trotsgrad player noted that he wished, 'our fans were this loud'.

The game started off with the Sharks dominating the play from the early going. Controlling the ball well throughout the first part of the game in the Trotsgrad zone the Shark offense had numerous chances but were unable to score. Then near the 22nd minute Peruvo had the ball and attention from three Trotsgrad defenders when he somehow squeeked out a pass to an onrushing midfielder Greg Prustelik who launched a shot which curled away from the outstretched hands of the Trotsgrad goaltender and into the net for the first goal of the game and confirmation that the Sharks fans would be loud continually for the rest of the match.

The Trotsgrad fans, already drowned out by the Shark faithful now had to endure with chants such as, 'PRUSTELIK WE LIKE YOU', accompanied with the numerous drums and stomping that are apart of any and all Shark football matches.

At the 43rd minute the Pleasantview Raven fans, crosstown rivals of the North Beach Sharks, started to raise their voices with, 'RAVENS ARE BETTER' though this was quickly drowned out as Shawn Peruvo broke in on net and lifted a shot over the goaltender as he came out to cut down the angle to make it 2-0 PopularFreedom. The Shark fans exploded with chants of, 'PE-RU-VO, PE-RU-VO', as Shawn jumped into the stands again to celebrate a few seconds with the fans before taking the field to finish the half.

At the beginning of the second half you had much of the same both on the field and off as the players were greeted to the Shark fans chanting their familiar, 'RIP, EM TO SHREADDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSS. GOOOOOOOOOOOOO SHARRRRRRRRRRRRRRKS', chant.

The Sharks only made one change at halftime switching midfielder Walter Roscoe with substitute Vincent Matthews.

In the 71st minute the teams lined up for a PopularFreedom cornerkick which arched into the centre of the field and was caught partially by the Trotsgrad keeper but was then kicked out of his hand and into the net a split second later by a Matthews dropkick for the third goal for the Sharks. This incident infuriated the Trotsgrad side who had some of their players restrain others from attacking Matthews who was wisely substituted off to ensure no further action by the Trotsgrad side.

This seemed to rally the Trotsgradians who started attacking the Shark net in the next few minutes. Finally at the 79th minute Locart's shutout bid was broken as one of the Trotsgrad players found the back of the net. The Shark fans however by now were in mass celebration and by the 90th minute had already altered their normal going away song with the new chant of, 'NA NA NA NA, NA NA NA NA, TROTS-GRA-AD, GOODBYE,...'.

Another glorious game by the Sharks who find themselves holding the last playoff spot with one game remaining for all teams. A win today verses a strong Cockbill Street team will assure them the ability to move on however it will be a tall order against the best team thus far in the tournament.

Cockbill Cock up Cockyness of HarlesburgSCORE
Cockbill Street 3 Harlesburg U/21 2

Once again in a thriller of a match Harlesburg U21/A have come off second best and this time it was to vastly experienced Footballing side Cockbill Street.
Cockbill Street have had many years and many tournaments of experience in Football as well as other sports really showed their skills in this matchup of the two most eager nations to sign up for this Competition.

The Harlesburg Team coming off an emphatic victory against Popular Freedom 4-2 had high hopes and a bouyant attitude and perhaps this cockyness caused their undoing as they lost their way very late in the game after keeping peg for most of it.

The Scoring started off in the 14th minute when Cockbil Street went ahead after jkj Clarke cut a tidy passage through the young Bucks from harlesburg's Defence passed on to dhghfd before regaining the ball and wrong footing Harlesburg's Keeper Olsen Olsen who just this year had been playing for the National Team.

It took a while for Harlesburg to regain their composure and even longer for them to effectivly get into the game when they finnaly did it was the 36th minute and once again as it is common in Harlesburg they used their head when Hdhhj Salad Twin Brother of sdjjksd and also and more impressivly International Star Hassim Salad ran into open space in the middle of the box off a CornerKick and put it in the bottom Right Corner of the net safely away from the claws of the opposing Goalie.

The n in the 59th minute Williams of Cockbill once again put Cockbill Streets ahead when he shot from distance and drilled it into the top left corner of the goal.

Mo to come.

Karleki Samov, Minister of National Athletics of the nation of Trotsgrad was disturbed by his secretary on his intercom system.

Secretary: Mr. Samov

Karleki Samov: Gina, I thought I told you I did not want to be bothered, why...

Secretary: Mr. Samov, the leader of the nation is here to see you.

Karleki Samov: What? Trots is here? What does he want?

Secretary: He wants to see you sir and he is quite adament about seeing you now.

Karleki Samov: Let him in.

Trots walked in and Karleki unsure about the purpose of this visit motioned to him to sit down.

Karleki Samov: Greetings Comrade

Trots Bjda: Greetings

Karleki Samov: How do you like the tournament thus far Trots?

Trots Bjda: What do you know about the city of Goldview?

Karleki Samov: Excuse me sir?

Trots Bjda: The city of Goldview, Trotsgrad. It has held two tournaments in the last 2 months, what do you know about that?

Karleki Samov: Well it was a boom for tourism, just like the Perusa tour...

Trots Bjda: How did Trotsgrad do at these tournaments?!

Karleki all of a sudden started to feel a bit nervous.

Karleki Samov: They did okay...

Trots Bjda: Okay? Just okay? No, at the rugby tournament the Goldview Grizzlies placed 4th out of 9 Sunbelt teams. At the soccer tournament the Goldview Northern Bobcats placed 2nd out of 13 teams and won the silver medal losing in injury time in an awesome game. So! How is Perusa doing at this international tournament?

Now even more worried Karleki responds:
Karleki Samov: They tied 2 really good teams...

Laughing with disgust as he talks:
Trots Bjda: Xixan is not doing well at this tournament, Starblaydi meanwhile is an under 19 squad. These are the teams we have tied, we are in last place, and I am not happy. I do not like to see Trotsgrad lose, do you understand?

Karleki Samov: Yes sir, but what was I to do, you said to arrange an international tournament?

Trots Bjda: Yes, so why not arrange a tournament in a city with a winning team? What rank does the Perusa team have in the nation among national teams?

Karleki Samov: 11th or so sir I think?

Trots Bjda: 14th!

Karleki Samov: Sir, we needed a tournament in the north of the nation which was most devastated by the recent civil war.

Trots Bjda: So why not have it in Hovst Ridges then? That city is even further north of Perusa and they have a better team.

Karleki slouched in his chair depressed.

Trots Bjda: Look, I am not trying to bum you out, just I am extremely displeased as I thought you would have had the common sense to make sure we did well this tournament. Picking one of the weaker teams in the nation to play in a tournament is not a way of ensuring that goal comes to fruition.

Karleki Samov: Look, I will talk to the coach and the players. They will win today.

As Trots got up and started to leave he turned back to respond to Karleki:
Trots Bjda: I demand results so they better, for your sake, else I will be hiring a new Minister of National Athletics on Monday. Good day comrade.

Apes see draw snatched from hands of victory or somesuch

By Ingbaba

Trotsgrad – The Bipedaleen side appearing in the international friendly footie tourney in human Trotsgrad nearly came away from its match against esteemed New Preussen last night with a coveted win, which would virtually have assured the apes a place in the tourney playoffs. With yet another goal coming from male striker Tribuana early in the first half, and a second-half capper from substitute forward Rockhonkle, doing her best to put Bananaville Independent on the map, the apes headed into seventy minutes on a two-nil lead.

But with an offensive effort for the ages, the New Preussen human players turned their performance up two notches and finally pressured keeper Dogdiggle into giving up her first goal of the match at 74 minutes. Still, the lead was intact, and a heavily-defending ape side allowed New Preussen to control the ball, looking only to deny them—a strategy that may have been an error. Though ninety minutes came and went with the RBA still up, in the fourth minute of injury time, barely a minute from match end, human striker Schwartz came through with a hugenormously fortuitous shot that found its way past three defenders and into the goal, salvaging a crushing draw. A minute later, the dispirited apes slunk off the pitch to bemoan their luck.

Still in contention, the apes face La Habana next time ‘round, needing a victory to make a playoff spot.

Dirty Pole Scores the Goals
Harlesburg 2 Trotsgrad 0

The Sun was shining on a picturesqe plain in the Nation Of Trotsgrad and as a gentle breeze rolled across the fields and valleys of the Communist nation it fell onto the developed Metropolis of Condor where a Matchup between the Confederacy Of Harlesburg and The Community of Trotsgrad was about to be played.

The Harlesburg representatives were the under 21 Team which were and are also the national A team while the team representing Trotsgrad where their very own national team who as of lately had been eliminated from their very own tournament and now playing as spoilers for everyone else they were to come up against which in this case was Harlesburg who needed the win.

Harlesburg were looking for victory after two disapointing results against first Cockbill Streets going down 3-2 and then yesterdays game losing out to a lucky Starblaydia team who only scored in the dieing minutes of the game in fact in the 2nd minute of Injury time and it was a lucky break that put them ahead.

So with Harlesburg kicking off with ther chances on the line and needing a definite victory to keep their chances alive while also praying for a PopularFreedom loss to Cockbill Street later on the atmosphere was electric and the mostly partisan Home Crowd making their prescence felt by out numbering the few Harlesbrgian's brave enough and unlucky enough not to secure tickets to the World Cup by at least 8:3.

No large scale changes had been made to the starting lineup even after two loses on the trot but Wogonowski had been brought in as goal scoring was crucial to Harlesburg's chances of qualifiying for the next round which meant Hussa Mantro was relegated to the bench.
Patrick O'shea had the first oppurtunity in the match when in the 12th minute he found space down the left flank and exposed it cruelly before jinking inside to shoot high to the right post but the keeper easily slapped it away 20 meters down the park to be cleared by the defence.

The first goal came in the 39th minute when in Alexi Wogonowski came racing on to a through ball from Christopher Ompierree and sloted it down in the lower left position of the net sending the crowd into a frenzy as they thought he was offside.

The half ended with this score and it took Harlesburg a further 33 minutes before they could put another one up on the home team and nce again it was 'Dirty' who finnished it off when in the 72nd minute after Charles Suddles had been brought down illegally close to the box and from the insueing free kick taken by Bacha Salad which crashed into the wall set up by the Trotsgrad defenders the ball rebounded to the feet of Wogonowski who didnt need any encouragment to send it home.

Harlesburg had kept their part of the bargain but now it was up to Cockbill to uphold theirs and beat Popular Freedom by at least one goal and all was looking well with suppreme goal scorer Clarke putting the Cocks ahead 1 nil in the 23rd minute after a piece of single handed magic allowed him to dance through a weak defence and score high in the left corner.

But then tradgedy stuck for Haresburg as PopularFreedom equalised in the42nd through Peruvo Cornerkick that curlled in late and bet the outstreched hand of the keeper racing to defend his goal but he couldnt get to it and so it was.
From now on Cockbill Streets looked agitated and couldnt come to terms with PopularFreedom play and as the minutes ticked by Harlesburgs fate was set.
They were out with bnoth teams exhausting themselves for the draw.

Conures out, but not down after loss #

Hurfordia's dreams of play-off glory were ended today, as they lost to New Preussen in Trostgrad.

After the euphoria of the week, a 4-1 defeat seemed somehow inappropriate. But New Preussen showed a level of class that few teams have matched in the tournament.

The Conures set out an attacking starting line, and were prepeared to fight for everything. In the 5th minute, they forced a corner, which a Preussen defender hacked clear. The ball fell neatly to a team mate, who heaved the ball upfield. The Conures had committed too many forward, and their exposed defence was torn apart, leaving Stein one-on-one with Sedley. The Preussen forward dispatched the ball into the net with aplomb.

The early goal seemed to deflate the Conures. Forced to sit back, their football became ragged, and New Preussen surged forward again and again. After a number of near misses, Fedelburg managed to beat the off-side trap, and chipped Sedley for the second goal after 39 minutes.

The Conures never really got out of the box in the second half, apart from a brief spell around the hour mark. The normally goal-shy Lebrun scored his second of the tournament momentarily slipped his marker and got a toe to Holsworthy's cross. Within six minutes, though, the Conures defence was once more caught on the break, with Stein scoring his second. From there, Preussen seemed to relax, passing the ball around as if teasing the Hurfordian players. The final insult came as defender O'Halloran was sent off for a late tackle in the penalty box. Schwartz dispatched the penalty, and Hurfordia slipped to a 4-1 defeat.

After the match, manager Peter Langrishe admitted that his players were tired after the number of games played, but refused to blame it for the defeat. "At the end of the day, the other lads were better than us" he said, "They outplayed us all over the place. We went to pieces after the early goal. I honestly think they'll go on to win the tournament".

The Hurfordian players can learn a lot from their experiences this week, and are entitled to feel proud of themselves. Many felt that the team wasn't ready for a competitive tournament, but they have proven their critics wrong. Credit must also go to the hosts, Trotsgrad, for running such a magnificent tournament so soon after their terrible civil war. It is hoped that Hurfordia can return the favour in the future. The Hurfordian FA has already sent messages of congratulations to all the other teams in the tournament, and to the hosts.

Greetings Comrades,

Just a clarification, the team representing Trotsgrad are the Perusa Warhawks, not the national team. There is no national for Trotsgrad at present and instead the team representing Trotsgrad is the 14th ranked team in the nation since it is their home turf that the tournament is organized on. Also, all games are played in Perusa, Trotsgrad. The city of Condor did not host any games. Again just clarifying information for all.

Sincerely, Trots Bjda
Humble follower of the people

PS: Congrats to Harlesburg on their victory and on making my life less difficult in relation to deciding the future of Mr. Samov as Minister of National Athletics of Trotsgrad.

SHARKS GEAR UP FOR PLAYOFFS!

International report from Trotsgrad - After earning a draw with Cockbill Street which helped to propel them into the playoffs the Sharks are focusing their attention on the final days events.

'We need more scoring and better defense out of our midfielders so [midfielder Paul] Henry is out and [midfielder Vincent] Matthews is in', noted coach Dennis Viltacore yesterday.

The team practiced lightly yesterday in preparation for today's big semifinal tilt verses La Habana. A win would propel the team into the finals while helping to cement the team as a serious contender for the upcoming World Cup 24. 'We still have something to prove to the world', noted star striker Shawn Peruvo. 'Today is our first step to glory'.

HEARTBREAK! RAVEN FANS REJOICE AS SHARKS DEVASTATED BY BAD LUCK.

International report from Trotsgrad - To look into the eyes of star striker Shawn Peruvo at the end of the bronze medal match on Sunday there was only one word that came to mind, devastation.

It had been a seesaw filled day of events that had left his team without a medal at the end of what had been up until today a remarkable tourney for PopularFreedom for the most part.

The day had started off rather bad with La Habana taking a 2-0 lead at halftime of the semifinal. However the sharks bit their way back with first Vincent Matthews, then Shawn Peruvo scoring to tie it up and bring the game into overtime.

During the overtime PopularFreedom had a number of chances to score though the game will be forever remembered for the 'sure goal' that substitute Paul Henry missed. Henry, substituting for midfielder Walter Roscoe in the 83rd minute after Roscoe put forth what coach Dennis Viltacore called, 'a lazy effort', came on to convince the coaching staff that benching him today was the wrong thing to do. Up to that point in fact it looked like it was the right thing to do however since Vincent Matthews, Henry's replacement, had scored the opening goal for the sharks to bring them back to within striking range at the 53rd minute. Henry however, at age 29, was unwilling to just let his position 'be taken from him', and therefore, 'had something to prove to the coaching staff in this critical game'. Unfortunately the game, and the tournament will probably be remembered forever for what he didn't do instead.

In the 115th minute of the game, during golden goal overtime, Shawn Peruvo had broken in alone on La Habana's keeper. He had two defenders trailing him however he was clearly ahead of them, the goaltender came out to challenge Peruvo who blasted a shot from the outside of the box. La Habana's goalkeeper miraculously blocked the shot which rebounded just over the head of an onrushing Peruvo. Peruvo however was able to coral the ball just inside the box. With the 2 defenders now fully on him and the goalkeeper just getting to his feet Peruvo heard a sprinting Henry call for the ball from just outside the box. Peruvo threaded a perfect pass to Henry who had an yawning cage to shoot from. Even now from the replay it is difficult to see how he missed and yet Henry shanked the ball which spun to the right and just wide of the post.

The entire stadium gasped, the Shark fans in disbelief while the La Habana fans in relief. Peruvo meanwhile collapsed with a look of horror on his face as he realized that the game was not only still ongoing but that he probably could have scored had he just taken the shot himself, despite Henry being in a clearer position.

As the game restarted with a La Habana goalkick the La Habana crowd started to chant for their team while the Raven fans were merciless towards Henry for the remainder of the game while the Shark fans just sat in shocked silence. At the end with the score still tied the game came down to penalty kicks. Pummelstin hit the crossbar to leave the Sharks one short so that when Omonte scored La Habana's 5th, the entire La Habana bench burst onto the field to mob their teammate while the Sharks just sat in disallusion. The La Habana fans were cheering their approval though in the background the jeering from the Raven fans could be clearly heard of, 'HEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNN - RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYY'.

With the loss the PopularFreedom squad found themselves in the bronze medal match against New Preussen in the afternoon. The game was filled with the deafening noise of the Raven fans who were jeering Paul Henry throughout the match. New Preussen opened the scoring in the 39th minute which left what few Shark fans that existed silent in their seats. Peruvo again came to the rescue of his team scoring a brilliant header off a John Collins cornerkick in the 85th minute to silence the New Preussen and Raven fans.

Disaster however struck during overtime again. Peruvo was able to get a feed from Paul Henry and ran in alone on a breakaway. He took a shot which flew over the onrushing New Preussen keeper but clanged off the crossbar and flew back out. He looked up in the sky and shook his head in disbelief while the New Preussen defender cleared the ball upwards to one of the midfielders who took it up the wing and then came in on goal threading a shot past Shark goalie Peter Locart for a golden goal and the bronze medal. While New Preussen celebrated the Shark players left the field quickly though not before Peruvo had to be removed forcefully by security after challenging a few Raven fans, who were hurling insults towards him, in the stands to a fistfight.

The Sharks next tournament will be World Cup 24 where they hope to bounce back from this day of defeat and bring back glory to our nation.
