My nation would like to start an international university. Every nation could send 2 students and all learn through debate, literature, and lecture. Anyone else like this?

We'd like to send two of our people. They've already graduated bachelor, and would like to receive a master's degree at your University. We can assure you they are hard-working and trustworthy.

My nation would like to send one student, preferably one who is interested in doing PhD work. Berkaan is small. It has a heavy focus on education, but virtually no contact with the outside world. We are interested in remedying this. Your international university sounds like a good way for one of our young people to learn about other cultures, as well as continuing his or her education. What sorts of degrees are you offering? Will the student be required to bring their own funding?

OOC: One of the very first RPs I ever participated in was a international school RP. Although it was younger, not a university level (I believe it was high school), it was great. It lasted well past the 200 page range in length, and in under a month, I had over 2k posts with it. Unfortunately, the nation that ran it is gone. Running a school based RP takes dedication, and if this become character based, then I would really like to participate.

OOC: I would also be intersted in a role-played, charector based university. I am new at NS and this sounds like an interesting thread to start with. (I also happen to be a PhD student myself currently)

OOC:

It sounds like it might be fun, do you have any more detailed ideas?

OOC: I hope the OP returns :( I TG'd her yesterday but haven't had a response.

OT: It seems like quite a few people are interested in this, but the OP doesn't seem to be interested any more.
Does this seem like something that a single person has to run, or can we all participate free-form?

I'm not entering this one, but since everyone but Imitora seems newish to RP, would you mind a few suggestions? I speak as one who has suffered through, but nonetheless enjoyed, a rambling school RP where the thread starter went AWOL.

1: If you go for a free-form, set up an OOC thread. This one would do fine, then you could start the action in another thread. It really helps, when you've got people from different timezones participating, to have a place to find out where character X's hissy-fit is leading.

2. If you don't like switching from one thread to another, then write your OOC stuff in white and it will be readable only when it's highlighted. It helps your readers if you don't give plot moves away.

3. Be cautious about making somebody else's character do anything, even raise their eyebrows. That way you don't waste half your post undoing what somebody else has done. If you want your character to reveal something, they can always read/write e-mails, hear news flashes or just talk aloud to their cat. And NEVER KILL ANYONE WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION!

4.Is the entire staff going to be peripheral to the action? Tutors, lecturers, Profs, lab assistants, janitors, gardeners, cleaners, canteen staff, librarians -- they're all good for throwing spanners into the works. Someone might like to write several characters.

5. Please, please have a vague idea of where you're going individually and collectively -- eg, is this going to be "a semester in the life of", a coming-of-age, a series of learned lectures, action-action-action? No need to pin each other down, and mixing genres can be fun, but it helps if you're all generally agreed on time and place.

Of course, now I've put my oar in, no doubt the thread starter will come back with a detailed exposition of what's in store. Such is life.

Oh, my. Sorry. I didn't mean to be so patronising.

The DON'T KILL ANYONE bit is still good advice, though.

I didn't think you were being patronizing. Sounds like good advice.

Is anyone else still interested in doing this??

Official statement from the office of the President of the Republic of Ashlavar:

We have considered your invitation and we cannot give you a real answer... We shall certainly let you give out applications to our college aged students, but our government has no say whatsoever over education. All our schools are private and recieve no government funds or influence. Likewise, college students select the colleges they wish to go to and are fully responsible for paying the fees and getting accepted. But as we said, we shall send out applications and let you decide the most suitable.
