Domestic Sports Newswires
OOC: Following on from the undoubted success of the International Domestic Soccer Newswires (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=288854&page=1&pp=15) thread, this is a thread for all non-football domestic sports news.
IC: The inaugural Bettian League of Gridiron has kicked off after much antiicipation. The Bettian League Of Gridiron (BLOG) is a national American Football league contested between teams within Bettia. The league is divided into four conferences (North, South, East and West), with 16 teams battling it out for the AroraBowl.
(matches are scorinated using a slightly modified version of Starblaydia's Rugby Scorinator)
The teams are:
Northern Conference:
Porthbalfa Blazers
Pen-y-Bydd Reapers
Ceffinton Turbos
Huwbridge Swifts
Southern Conference:
Akani Sands Destroyers
Lorshill Lions
Downton Eagles
Whitchurch Cannons
Eastern Conference:
Grappenhall Grapplers
Spiddaford Spiders
Kirkwood Rangers
Gabalfa Gasheads
Western Conference:
Sukatra Sabres
Subarnas Volcanos
Tamrida Warriors
Fiilghud Chargers
Each team plays each other once during the regular season. Each team is awared three points for a win, one point for a draw and nothing for a defeat. In addition, bonus points are awarded for the following: -
Scoring four touchdowns in one match - 1 point
Scoring six touchdowns - 2 points (total)
Shut-outs (i.e. conceding no points in a single match) - 1 point
Twenty point margin of victory - 1 point
Therefore, the maximum number of points available for any one match would be seven (three for the win, two for scoring six touchdowns, one for a shut-out and one for winning by more than twenty points). This feat has already been achieved, when Akani Sands beat Whitchurch 59-0 on matchday 3.
The four teams finishing first and second in their groups progress to the knockout stages, with the top teams having home advantage. The knockout stages continue using random draws until two teams are left to contest the Arora Bowl final, which this year is staged in Bettia's national stadium, the Stadiwm Bettia.
The story so far...
Four rounds of matches have been played so far, and it is the Western Conference which has started the strongest. It's top two teams, the Subarnas Volcanos and Sukatra Sabres are the only teams with 100% records, with the Fiilghud Chargers following close behind.
Other front runners are the Akani Sands Destroyers (currently topping the Southern Conference) and the Porthbalfa Blazers, who seem to be running away with the Northern Conference.
At the other end, two teams are still awaiting their first points, the Huwbridge Swifts and the Spiddaford Spiders. The Whitchurch Cannons would have shared this unwelcome record were it not for their last-gasp 9-9 draw with Ceffinton.

Anyhow, I thought it would be a good idea to lump other sports onto one thread, just to keep it going. It appears the above threads have had varying amounts of success.

OOC: Yes, well, there's no cricket. :p
I also think lumping them together is a decent idea, 3- and 1-post threads aren't very useful. This might bring a few more RPers together, and a bigger thread.
BLOG - Half Time Report
Eight out of sixteen group stage matchdays have been played, and already a number of club are rising above the rest.
Leading the points tally are the Sukatra Sabres and Subarnas Volcanos, both battling it out for the Western Conference title. The Volcanos have the best attack in the league so far which saw them record a massive 82-21 win over Pen-y-Bydd on matchday 4. Following close behind are the Fiilghud Chargers by virtue of the meanest defence in the league, having conceded just 77 points so far. Bringing up the rear are the Tamrida Warriors on 14 points.
The race for the Northern Conference is seemingly over already, as the Porthbalfa Blazers enjoy a 16-point advantage over their nearest rivals, the Ceffinton Turbos. The two other teams, the Huwbridge Swifts and the Pen-y-Bydd Reapers, have only managed one win apiece.
The Eastern Conference is by far the tightest, with just two points spearating the top three teams. Sitting at the top are the Kirkwood Rangers, with the Grappenhall Grapplers just one point behind. Following them are pre-season favourites the Gabalaf Gasheads, who are enduring a somewhat inconsistant season although things are looking up courtesy of their impressive 20-9 win over Porthbalfa. Propping up the table are the Spiddaford Spiders, who have managed just one win.
The Southern Conference is turning into a neck-and-neck battle between the Downton Eagles and the Akani Sands Destroyers. Both teams are proving to be danegrous opponents, and are only seperated on points difference. Coming in third are the Lorshill Lions, whilst the Whitchurch Cannons find themselves bottom of the table having only just ended their winless streak.

The Streetian Twenty20 Cup, a 20-over slog competition, has been completed. Woodshire won the tournament after eight successive victories, no one coming close to threatening their bowling trio - fast bowler William Mason, off-spinner John Powys and left-arm medium bowler Matthew Brown - who between them took 48 wickets in eight games. B'zugda'hiara, the dwarf team, thought they had them on the rack when they bowled them out inside 12 overs for only 76 runs - only to see Mason whip through their batting line-up and have them bowled out for 53 on a disintegrating pitch.

Liverpool England Sports Ministry announces cricket branch
Liverpool England's Sports Ministry, which currently controls the LEAHL (an amateur Ice Hockey league in the nation) under the Hockey branch, and the BCLE (the Baseball Championship of Liverpool England that is currently in its eighth season), has announced that it will be adding a third branch to its control of sports that are deemed to be "ineligible to be bought over by private or public outlets" per the Constitution.
The cricket branch, to be aptly named Sports Ministry (Cricket) [OOC: care to guess the names of the other two branches? ;)], will oversee the formation and running of a one-day league.
[OOC: I'll really need help with this guys, like I said, zilch knowledge of cricket, although I do know it's the relatively faster version of baseball...]
Hypocria
06-07-2005, 12:20
Following talks with the Bettian cricket authorities it has been announced that a Hypocrian side will be playing in the Bettian cricket league.
“This is an excellent opportunity and we thank the Bettians for it”, said Arthur Graveney, Head of the Hypocrian Cricket Board. “Although cricket in Hypocria is only played at amateur level we do have some good players and this will give them the opportunity to play at a much higher level.”
Plans are still in the early stages but trails have been arranged to find the nations best cricketers to form a squad for the as yet unnamed side.
Officials have confirmed that the Emerald Park cricket ground in the city of Pydna, close to the Bettian border, will be the home ground for Hypocria’s team.
“It’s not up to scratch just yet”, HCB official Mark Fletcher admitted of the ground, “but it’s not far off. A bit of renovation here and there, some extra seats and some basic training facilities and we’ll be good to go.”

The BLOG has confirmed that the Vimesbairn Vild Dogs' application to join the league has been accepted. They will replace the Spiddaford Spiders in the Eastern Conference when the new season starts (whenever that is), on account of Cockbill Street being located to the east of Bettia, and Spiddaford being rather crap (just like their attendance figures).
The group stages of the 1st BLOG are now drawing to a close - a summary will appear here and on the Wiki next week.
Liamist States
09-07-2005, 07:52
While the Marmadukes and Co are off rollicking in the fields of international competition, a number of other domestic sports have been doing their rounds, as per usual, in the States. Here’s a brief wrap-up:
Liamist Rugby Association – Season 5
Background for our international readers: the LRA is a reconciled version of rugby league and rugby union. This was necessary after both sports were losing money over trivial differences. There are only eight clubs, one for each of the Districts of the Liamist States, one for Liamopolis and one for Liamton. The eight are divided into two groups of four, with the winner of each group going to the final. Traditionally, the winner of Group A gets the home ground advantage in the final and to this day, only Group A teams have won the title. In previous seasons, Liamopolis, Greater LS and Trenport have shown flair for the new version of rugby.
After the group matches only Trenport and Greater LS had come through undefeated, with their opponents eating their dust. Both squads have won the title before, so no matter who won after the eighty minutes, it would the LRA’s first dual winner. Both sides were known for their flowing, attacking brand of rugby, with both teams scoring over ninety points in their group matches. Oddly enough, the final, hosted in Mayfair, Gretaer Liamist States, was a relatively low scoring affair with Greater LS becoming the first team to win two LRA titles in a bruising encounter. Running out victors 17-4, the quick footwork of Guerrero, Ventola and Tainio brought in three tries for the guys in yellow and red, while Trenport’s Eric Jarosik brought in the teams only points, kicking two penalty goals for excessively rough play from the GLS forwards. So with a thirteen point victory, the Mayfair fans of rugby went home content their poorer rivals had been bashed into the ground.
No one can really predict who will be dominant next season in LRA 6 but many are looking to a resurgent Liamopolis side to challenge. After finishing runners-up in LRAs 2 and 3, Liamopolis will be a force to be reckoned with. However, they will need to work very hard on their defence for them to get the title in the bag. Drawing Group A would help too…
Formula Human Racing – Season 5
Background: A series of financial problems have delayed the commencement of Season 5 of the Liamist States premier motor sport contest. Up until now, FHR had been split into three formulas: F1, F2, F3 North and F3 South. The only difference between the formulas was the number of drivers each team could have. F1 had four drivers on their teams, F2 had three and F3 had two. Serious financial difficulties with paying so many drivers and with an overabundance of sponsorship opportunities, forced FHR to take a good long look at itself. The field was reduced to only eight teams (down from thirty-eight) and in exchange for being appended to the name of said teams, engine manufacturers added some much needed Ch-Chings. While the old FHR season was traditionally ten rounds long (with three more races for kickass drivers in the exclusive Liam Cup), this was expanded out to sixteen, with the Districts, Liamopolis and Liamton each hosting two grands prix.
It was unfortunate that he season was decided with six or so round to go, with the teams having to fight for the scraps of second and third. Carle-VME, particularly with superstar driver Wilhelm Pandiani, brought home the championship and six race wins from sixteen. They finished some forty eight points clear of second place getters Savo-Wreno. Carle-VME scored the top three finishing positions of the Drivers Championship also, with their drivers absolutely obliterating the field on the back of the unruly power of the Varied Motor Enterprises engine and the grip of the newest tyre manufacturer to throw their hat into the FHR arena, Austin. Many pundits had their eyes on Neru-CNX to bring home the goods, particularly given how closely CNX worked with Liamist Racing Tech during FMR’s brief international foray. Greg Fuller (8th), the last driver signed to the newly formed team, was unable to find consistent pace and could hardly be expected to pull Malbranque’s (21st) and Jakobsson’s (23rd) poor performances up. Wooden spooners Micli-Ranger finished exactly where they were expected to despite pre-season hype that this would be the greatest package the team has unveiled.
Many are picking an Aubey-Yotaya resurrection for next season. Aubey were the only team to maintain their F1 status for four straight seasons and were due to be relegated to F2 after Season 4. While Season 5 saw them finish seventh from eight, many attribute this to working out the differences between themselves and new tyre suppliers Farrer (having previously been serviced by Menzies). And if Planus can replicate drives like in the Port d’Liamton GP (round 1), and Morte in the Liamist States GP (round 16) then the team should have no worries.

Starblaydis Join Streetian Leagues
Delighted to Play First-Class Cricket Again, Says Starchaser
Twelve Starblaydi internationals, with several Test matches and One-Day Internationals under the now defunct INSCC, have decided to join the Streetian county cricket leagues, in an attempt to earn money for their skills.
"It's great that there's a professional league out there again," paceman Koradrel Starchaser revealed to the C-mail. "Two-weekend cricket is well and good, and does give us some time in the middle, but actually having to work for a living takes a lot out of cricket. Hopefully, we'll be competitive in this new league.
Chairman of the Department of Sports, Cricket Division, agreed with Starchaser in that it was good that a new professional league was set up, but also pointed out that "these players have international experience. That's something our lads lack, yet, though we're hoping to set up a Test series with Bettia or Hypocria. There's no doubt that these players will be huge assets to our league, and if others are interested in having their players play in our league - with its undoubted high media coverage - we will of course consider every player."
The 12 Starblaydis will go into a pool along with 20 young Streetian hopefuls, to be drafted into the clubs before Season 2 begins. There will be five draft rounds, as every time a team drafts someone they'll have to ditch another player into the draft. That means that the squads will still be of 18, but the make-up might be considerably different from what it was last season - although the core eleven probably remains with the club. The 32 players without a club will have to seek their fortunes elsewhere.
BLOG News
After fifteen gruelling matchdays, the top two teams in each conference now face up to each other to decide who will contest AroraBowl I.
The draw for the quarter-finals is:
Porthbalfa Blazers vs Kirkwood Rangers
Gabalfa Gasheads vs Downton Eagles
Akani Sands Destroyers vs Sukatra Sabres
Subarnas Volcanoes vs Ceffinton Turbos
The tie of the round looks to be Akani Sands vs Sukatra - two of the best teams in the league square up to each other in a matchup some pundits feel would grace the final.
The group stages have seen some teams rise high above the rest, and with that in mind the following awards have been made.
The Top Of The Heap award for the Highest Points total - Subarnas, notching up an impressive 48 points, including 9 bonus points.
The You're Shit And You Know You Are award for the Lowest Points total - Spiddaford, who scored a measly 4 points. Hopelessly outclassed, and won't be missed next season when they are replaced by Vimesbairn.
The We Outweigh Nuclear Arms award for the Best Attack - Subarnas, who at times were rampant scoring a total of 445 points in their games.
The As Strong As An Ant's Fart award for the Worst Attack - Spiddaford, scoring a measly 163 points in their 15 games.
The Get Out And Stay Out award for the Best Defence - Fiilghud, their rock-solid defence let slip just 143 points.
The That's A Nasty Leak for the Worst Defence - Whitchurch, conceding more than 40 points on seven occasions on their way to leaking a total of 521 points.
The Come And Have A Go If You Think You're Hard Enough for the Best Home Record - Subarnas, boasting a 7-0-0 home record, the only team with 100%.
The You're Supposed To Be At Home award for the Worst Home Record - Lorshill, their 1-0-7 home record was suprisingly crap for a mid-table team, especially when looked at in contrast with their 5-0-1 away record.
The That's A Right Proper Thrashing for the Biggest Win - Sukatra, for their 94-12 thumping of Ceffinton on matchday 6.
The Oooh, Unlucky for the Unluckiest Team - Fiilghud, even though they scored more points than all but three teams in the entire league, they failed to qualify for the playoffs simply because they had to contend with two of the top teams in the same group. Better luck next time.
As usual, full scores and tables can be found on the BLOG Wiki (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Bettian_League_Of_Gridiron)

Streetian County Championship wrap-up for season 2:
Yet another season of batting paradises around the nation, as 22 of 56 matches were drawn and six batsmen passed 1000 runs. Tara Heighes became top-scorer, despite a spot of poor form near the end of the season, which indeed became the fate of the entire Wynshire side. They had fought in the top for most of the season, but their unexperienced skipper Geoff Sandiford struggled to get his declarations right, and that cost them two matches. Before the last round, however, Wynshire had an eight-point lead over Jotneheim, who had recovered from a woeful start to the season after five matches without a win.
Indeed, Jotneheim had been very close to beating Wynshire on matchday 12, leading by 103 runs on first innings and having over 100 overs to bowl the opposition out, but they'd settled for a draw in the end. However, on the last matchday, Wynshire lost their ruthless streak. Batting first, they imploded to 191 against a weak bowling attack, and eventually lost by seven wickets without gaining a single point - while Jotneheim bowled out Northset for 134 and recorded a thumping 257-run victory to go top of the table and take their second County Championship in two years.
Foreigner report:
Northset:
John Cortez - little impact, due to injuries. Only played six first-class games, in which he took 26 wickets at a healthy average, becoming Northset's fourth-highest wicket taker.
CSCT:
Duroth Mornerzabar - eight games, smacking three centuries with the highest 186 and a batting average of 60 to become one of CSCT's best batsmen. Largely disappointing in Twenty20.
George Fenwick - a regular fixture in CSCT's line-up, played twelve games, averaging 43 despite only two centuries and four fifties. Also a disappointment in Twenty20.
B'zugda'hiara:
Durin Nulukkizdin - 837 runs in ten games at a healthy average. Three centuries to boot, highest 141. Averaged below 10 with the bat in the Twenty20 winning side, though.
Richard Silton - Disappointment with the bat, averaging only 32 with one century in ten games. Not much better in Twenty20, where he scampered 81 runs in six innings.
Woodshire:
Rabindra Ol-wairain - with eleven games, the selectors kept their faith in him, but he failed to repay them with runs - only 732 at an average of 36.60.
Xavi Conssionati - 108 runs in Twenty20, high average due to not-outs, but a highest-score of 44. No century in first-class cricket, only averaged 30 with the bat.
Ayreshire:
Pavel Narmonov - little impact with bat, as expected, but took 54 wickets and was top wicket-taker for Ayreshire. Also took five wickets in Twenty20 and had an excellent economy rate of 4.33.
Davros Black - not-outs boosted his batting average to 18, but little fault in the bowling - except that the captain didn't have faith in him, choosing to bowl Streetians Potts and Hoare more than Black. He still scampered 50 wickets, though, one of only six players in the entire league to manage that feat.
Ricardo Sanchez - the batsman contributed with solid, regular fifties, without impressing. Made 749 runs with a highest score of 112.
Wynshire:
James Bartholomew - captain didn't have faith in his bowling (and let's face it, with Joanna Hales and Eric Crosse, why would you need him), but he still took 23 wickets at an OK average. OK contributions with the bat, too, but a highest score of 40 suggests concentration problems.
Rothershire:
Koradrel Starchaser - the elf allrounder often took key wickets and batted well enough, but was not exactly stellar. Five wickets in Twenty20, though.

The Commander's Cup has just been completed - Koradrel Starchaser's Rothershire reached the final, but it was Jotneheim who went in as huge favourites to take their fifth title in seventh attempts, and Rothershire would have to put their faith in their deep batting line-up. However, that backfired magnificently. Peter Gruggen top-scored with 38, Koradrel Starchaser was left stranded on 22, while Niter and Harmotome ran through their batting line-up for 142. Leucite smacked 71 in reply as Jotneheim cruised to their victory, Azurite showing his arrogance by leaving a number of jaffas from Koradrel Starchaser, who finished with two for 26. Azurite scored 21 runs, having faced 82 balls, but in the event his slow scoring mattered extremely little.

AroraBowl Fever!
AroraBowl fever hit Bettia last weekend as the Subarnas Volcanoes squared off against the Akani Sands Destroyers for the right to be crowned the inaugural champions of Bettian Gridiron.
The two sides had been by far the leading contenders for the title, both winning their respective conferences. In the quarter-final, Akani Sands squared off against a strong Sukatra Sabres side and came out on top after a bruising, hard-fought battle. Subarnas had things rather easier, cruising to a 45-7 victory against the Ceffinton Turbos.
The semi-finals saw both teams playing away. The Destroyers travelled to Northern Conference champs Porthbalfa, coming away with a 17-6 win. Subarnas had a tougher proposition against the Gabalfa Gasheads, but managed a somewhat confortable 28-14 win.
And so to the final, played at Gablfa's Stadiwm Bettia. There was a great deal of pride and honour at stake, and so quite understandably this match started as quite a nervy affair. However, as the two teams settled down, they started to play the top-rate gridiron that they had exhibited all season long. This was an even, nip-and-tuck match right up until the final two minutes when the Volcanoes scored the decisive touchdown courtesy of star Quarterback Geraint Al-Shahaf's jinking solo run.
Despite the Destroyers throwing everything they could, Subarnas held on to claim AroraBowl I for themselves, sparking scenes of wil celebration amoungst the players, staff and the thousands of fans who made the journey from the small industrial town.
Final score:
Akani Sands 10-17 Subarnas
OOC: Bettian Cricket League coming soon...
Cockbill Street
02-08-2005, 17:27
The Cockbill Street One-Day League has been completed, and with it the second season, which at least was more even than the first. A slight surprise in the One-Day League, perhaps:
The one-day league was surprisingly even. Many teams had a shout at winning it - after four matches, seven teams were within one point of the leader - but Woodshire broke free after a stunning streak of five successive victories, surviving several narrow escapes against Wynshire and Northset. Wynshire disappointed at times, and at other times were phenomenal, and were thus fourth at the midway stage, while CSCT had taken an early lead - only to suffer two successive losses and fall to sixth. Northset took over, and led until matchday seven, when they were trumped by the league's biggest rabbit - William Mason - who made 1 not out, his second highest score in one-day cricket, and survived to see Woodshire make it through by a wicket.
They followed up with a win over B'zugda'hiara, and even a loss to Jotneheim wasn't so crucial, but the league lead changed on matchday ten. Woodshire lost for the second time running, to Rothershire of all teams, and Ayreshire - despite a negative net run rate - could go top thanks to a six-wicket win over Northset. Ayreshire were quickly toppled, however, crumbling to a 25-run defeat to Woodshire, who went on to beat CSCT by 50 runs and establish a controlling lead. However, a three-wicket loss to Wynshire saw them throw that away, and the title eventually came down to one match - Wynshire v Ayreshire. Woodshire could have challenged, but lost their match to Northset by two runs, so with Wynshire on 16 points and Ayreshire on 15 one of the two had to pass Woodshire on 16. Ayreshire swamped Woodshire thanks to 169 from Chad Wakely, his only contribution worthy of note all season (7 innings had yielded 107 runs) - but it was enough to send them to the top after a 105-run win in the league final.
Foreigner report:
Northset:
John Cortez - played plenty of one-day games, and entertained a batting average of 33.50, despite only scoring 67 runs. Topped the wicket-taking statistics, with 20, and was the only regular bowler to average below 30. Best bowling of four for ten.
CSCT:
Duroth Mornerzabar - eight games, largely disappointing apart from two 50+ scores including one 106, made 246 runs at 35.14. Two wickets in 11 overs with reasonable economy.
George Fenwick - a regular fixture in CSCT's line-up, played nine games, one century (161) and three fifties. Made 462 runs, 30 off the highest in the club, Bradley, and number eight on the league list of run-scorers. Bowled forty overs, four for 173.
B'zugda'hiara:
Durin Nulukkizdin - Disappointing in one-day cricket - made two fifties and sod-all else, 150 runs @ 30.
Richard Silton - Much better in one-day than first-class cricket, one century and three fifties on his way to 469 runs and a B'zugda'hiara best average of 46.90. Highest score an unbeaten 138, one of two B'zugda'hiara centuries all season.
Woodshire:
Rabindra Ol-wairain - eight games, 301 runs @ 37.63. Not spectacular, but a useful performer, whose highest score of 82 - his only fifty - reveals a man who performed consistently only to get out early.
Xavi Conssionati - made 15 runs more than Ol-wairain, at a slightly better average, but again his only 50+ score was an unbeaten 111.
Ayreshire:
Pavel Narmonov - little impact with bat, again, only scampering 25 runs. Apart from one spell of four for 22, he also struggled with the ball, being too inaccurate and ending up with 12 wickets.
Davros Black - 83 runs in the season meant the second-highest average at the club, with 41.50. However, that lies slightly - his scores were 81*, 2, 0. However, also ten cheap wickets - including one spell of 6-37, an Ayreshire record, against Rothershire on matchday 2 - and not an awful season by any means.
Ricardo Sanchez - eight games, 520 runs at an astonishing average of 86.67. Three matchwinning centuries. An integral part of Ayreshire's upset victory.
Wynshire:
James Bartholomew - only seven games, not very good performances with bat - highest score of 39 not out, total of 130 runs. Took ten wickets in only 32 overs, that's a strike-rate of 19.2.
Rothershire:
Koradrel Starchaser - 177 runs, but six not-outs boosted his average to 29.50 with the bat. Bowling was excellent when he got chucked the ball, though, sixteen wickets in 65 overs @ 20.56, including a best spell of 5-44 in the last match, which Rothershire lost by 140 runs

The Cockbill Street Department of Sport, Cricket Division welcomes the MCB into existence, and would like to invite the Mennon cricket team to tour Cockbill Street for Test matches at some near point in the future. The MCB is also welcome to visit the county pages on NSWiki (accessible from here: http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Cockbill_Street_county_cricket to see the squad details, and see whether there are any Streetian players who could attract their interest.
Mennon Awaits Start of First Season
Mennon is on edge as it awaits its first season of Professional Cricket, and with the 8 teams coming from far a wide, inter regional rivalries have flared up all around the nation. Clashes on the scale of Menca v Mennon City and Beeston Fields vs Dalston give the competition a mouth watering rivaled by no other sport.
Bookies have installed Menca as favourites at 4/6, with Mennon City, Dalston and MCB Youth XI not far behind on 9/2, while Beeston Fields(6/1), Bramwell(9/1), Chillcote(15/1) are seen as outsiders, while Port Mennon is predicted to struggle with odds of 35/1.
The hype surrounding this competition seems to already have justified the switch to Professionalism, but it is yet to be seen if the players will live up to the hype and make the switch from Club Cricket to the First Class Arena. Though with some potentially explosive batting line ups and skilled attacks there should be some entertaining cricket all round.

Mennon Accepts Cockbill Street's Offer
The Head of the MCB Today announced that a Mennon XI will tour Cockbill Street in the near future sometime between Mennon's 1st and 2nd seasons. He also said that he hoped this tour could develop links between our two cricketing nations and put both our nations on the cricketing map.
While in other developments on the Eve of the Cricket season, the Head of the MCB also thanked Cockbill Street for the offer of some of it's players to join teams within Mennon's new Cricket competition and looks forward to seeing Mennonites and Streetians playing side by side in the near future. But the measure would be delayed till the 2nd Mennon Cricket season as registration for the current season deadline has already passed.

MBL halfway over
The MBL reached its halfway point yesterday. The big news is the success of the success of the Alexandria Monarchs who have crushed what ever perspective competition they might have had in the CL and have gone into a 10 1/2 game lead over the second place Swooton Sparrows. The Monarchs led by center fielder Adam Greenberg have swept thru the league eliminating competition as they please.
The standings:
Alexandria Monarchs 48-30
Swooton Sparrows 10 1/2 back

In the IL things have been a bit more even with nobody running away with the title the way the Monarchs are doing in the CL. Right now the New Babylon Pirates are leading the league but only by 2 games over the Chi Cubs who are fast charging on a 8 game win streak. They play an important series this weekend which will probably decide who will get to the Milchama World Series from the IL.

Bettian Cricket League Report
Despite the limelight being stolen due to the people of Bettia being interested in other things, the Bettian One-Day Cricket league has finally completed its first season.
The entire campaign has been dominated by East Clodien, whose quick Ryoga Bay wicket seemed to suit their strike partnership of Gould and Green down to a tee. East Clodien were ably led by their captain Paul Shay who excelled with the bat, being the highest run scorer in the league. The highlight of his season was undoubtedly the 68-ball century he scored against West Hypocria, who despite a slow start improved considerably to finish third.
Claiming the runners-up spot in the inaugural league was West Clodien, thanks mainly to the Player of the Year Les Crowther. Not only was he lethal with the bat, weighing in with an average of 60, but he also proved very handy with the ball, claiming a total of 28 wickets including a five-wicket haul against much-fancied Banastra.
Bringing up the rear were the northern province of Gwlad Teg, despite the sparkling performances of fast bowler Chris Treharne, whose season included the league's best bowling performance of 5-3 against North Maghrib.
Team P W L T Pts Net RR
1 East Clodien 14 10 4 0 20 1.19
2 West Clodien 14 8 5 1 17 0.67

The Bettian Select XI based on season's performances was named as:

HH Powell (bat) (West Clodien)
GR Lewis (bat) (East Clodien)
PO Shay (bat / part-time fast bowl) (East Clodien)

BLIP Announces Domestic Ice Hockey League
Bettia has never had a domestic ice hockey league to speak of, but after the last Cherry Cup, in which the Icebergs narrowly failed to reach the quarter-finals on a piffling technicality, the Bettian League of Ice-Hockey Professionals (BLIP) has at last announced the formation of a new competition.
Sponsored by FOYNLS (Bettia's premier soft drinks manufacturer and makers of Arorade, the ONLY sports drink for the discerning athlete), the ten-strong league is comprised of the following imaginatively named teams (in alphabetical order): -
Akani Sands Sharks
Butetown Battlers
Ceffinton Rams
Gabalfa Blades
Grappenhall Masters
Lorshill Assassins
Maindy Massive
Porthbalfa Primals
Sukatra Stars
Whitchurch Wizards
Bettia's star centre Ikrima Thruxton, sporting the rather smart red and gold jersey of his hometown team the Butetown Battlers, told The Enlightener "It's about bloody time. This league will do the Bettian ice hockey scene no end of good, as it means we'll be playing more than five games a season. Needless to say, we're all excited and we can't wait to get underway!"

The game, based off of American Football, will see teams playing in 20-minute halfs unlike the normal 30 minutes and points will be altered (field goal - 2, safety - 1, touchdown - 8, PAT - 2) as well as allowing ties.
The six teams competing in a ten-match schedule are:
Acadia Admirals
Cana Eagles
Finnen Stampede
Mission Wolves
Suda Predators
Verde Mund Vipers
The CSF is also proud to announce that Rugby Chicanada should begin in 1929 and a small experimental Cricket league could be up and running by 1930 depending on if they can find players. Talk of a basketball and baseball league are also up for the CSF Conference, this year held in Newcastle, Esten Canton.

I'm new here and have a couple of questions.
Is there a full scale basketball league here or just these little tourneys?
If there is a full blown league how would I go about joining it?
If not - then why not?

FOYNLS Premier League Half-Time Report
The opening half of the Bettian ice-hockey league has seen plenty of goals and gutsy play aplenty, roared on by the thousands of fans who fill the arenas in our fair nation. However, the main talking point seems to be the intense rivalry that is building up between the three capital-based teams, the Butetown Battlers, Gabalfa Blades and Maindy Massive. Each of the matches between these three teams has seen over an hour's worth of penalties, causing the BLIP to caution the clubs over their on-rink antics.
The Ceffinton Rams are making the early pace after a jittery start thanks to some sparkling wing-play, and they are closely followed by Gabalfa, Butetown and the Lorshill Assassins. A five point gap sees the Akani Sands Sharks sitting comfortably in mid-table, whilst below them sees five-way scrap developing at the bottom.

Halfway stage update of Streetian county cricket - Northset in good form, while Ayreshire are struggling, and CSCT look on course for their first title.
Season-opening Twenty20 Cup
Northset won their first title in style, surviving the group stages before demolishing Woodshire by ten wickets in the semi-final, setting a Twenty20 Cup record for an opening stand, and also bowled out Ayreshire for a meagre 60 in the final.
Twenty20 Cup, Group East

B'zugda'hiara 6 1 5 0 -0.44 2
Semi-finals:
Woodshire had the highest net-run-rate of the qualifiers, but were trounced by a rampant Northset side. Wyona Mann was the star for almost the first time of her career, taking six for 14, a Northset record, to bowl Woodshire out for 74, while Ryan Johnston and Eddie Guthardt faced 50 deliveries to get the required runs on the scoreboard - the highest opening partnership of Twenty20 Cup history. The other team from the Western Group, Ayreshire, crashed to 76 against Wynshire, where Ryan Morris bowled eleven balls without conceding a run - taking two wickets in the process - and James Bartholomew and Eric Crosse took care of the remaining wickets. Jim Elliott and Tara Heighes gave Wynshire a good start with an opening stand of 39, and they converted that into a six-wicket win.
Final:
Northset crashed to 54 for 6 after accurate, patient bowling from Pavel Narmonov yielded four wickets, but Rob Whitney and Siobhan Harper saw them bat out twenty overs to score 127 for 8. Henry Paton then slogged a six over midwicket first ball for Ayreshire, but John Cortez dared to serve the ball in the same spot next time - Paton hoiked, missed completely, and was hit on the pad in front of the stumps to be out for 6. Ricardo Sanchez then ran out Robin Shaw for a duck, and two more wickets from Liam Pearce saw Ayreshire crash to 10 for 4. Sanchez and Hanbury tried to rebuild, but after Cass dismissed Sanchez for 21, no batsman passed 8, and the foreign legion lost by a whopping 67 runs as they were bowled out for a meagre 60.
Commander's Cup
The semi-finals of the Commander's Cup have been completed, and Northset are to face Jotneheim in the final later this month. Northset qualified through beating Woodshire and Wynshire, and their batting score looks to contain many different instruments - Gavin Kruskopf, Ryan Johnston and Darren Parkinson have all made scores above 90. Jotneheim, meanwhile, rely on their bowlers, having bowled CSCT out for 125 and Ayreshire out for 140 en route to the final.
Quarter-finals
Woodshire 309-7 (50 ovs) beat B'zugda'hiara 102 ao (18.4 ovs) by 207 runs
Wynshire 250-3 (50 ovs) lost to Northset 253-4 (42.2 ovs) by six wickets
Jotneheim 237-5 (50 ovs) beat CSCT 125 ao (31.3 ovs) by 112 runs
Ayreshire 290-3 (50 ovs) beat Rothershire 182 ao (37.3 ovs) by 108 runs
Semi-finals
Northset 272-4 (50 ovs) beat Woodshire 207 ao (48.4 ovs) by 65 runs
Jotneheim 273-9 (50 ovs) beat Ayreshire 140 ao (27.4 ovs) by 133 runs
County Championship
The dwarves are leading the league at the half-way stage, a league which has been dominated by draws. Thirteen of twenty-eight matches have ended in draws so far, a ratio of nearly fifty per cent, and batsmen completely dominate bowlers - the league leaders have, in fact, only won two matches, but their 30 batting points is leagues ahead of anyone else. They are, to be fair, unbeaten, while Northset in second place have lost two, but won three. They've only earned 15 bonus points for batting, however. The lowest first-innings total is 71 - by CSCT - but ironically, CSCT came back with a vengeance in that match, amassing 600 for 9 before bowling Ayreshire out for 331 to win the game. CSCT sit in sixth, but it's very close behind B'zugda'hiara, who look dominant having earned a thirteen-point lead at the half-way stage.

One-Day League
After five of fourteen games, it looked like CSCT would rout the league, while defending champions Ayreshire had got off to a woeful start with five losses as their best batsman from last season, Ricardo Sanchez, disappeared from the scene. CSCT lost the next two games, but remain at the top of the league, challenged by the inconsistent Woodshire and Championship leaders B'zugda'hiara. There's only three points between the top five, however, so it's still anyone's game at the half-way stage.

Butetown Battle to the Top
Gabalfa's own Butetown Battlers have been crowned Bettia's first ever ice hockey champions, after comfortably winning the league by four points. Their star centre, Bettian international Ikrima Thruxton finished as the league's top scorer, finding the back of the net on 29 occasions.
Bringing in the leading pack were the Ceffinton Rams and Gabalfa Blades, who each finished one point ahead of the Sukatra Sultans. After that, a massive gulf in class can be seen with seven points separating them from the rest of the league.
Claiming the unwanted wooden spoon are the Grappenhall Masters who, despite a promising start, tailed off badly towards the end of the season. Barely keeping above them were the Akani Sands Sharks, who avoided the humiliation of finishing bottom by beating their fellow strugglers on the last day of the season.
