British Teawaland: The facts

Formerly made up of the two states of Teawa and Narshe- the two British colonies in the Southernmost Ocean, the two separate countries were merged as one in 2005, and split into separate states. At present, there are 8 states, with a 9th presently being discussed. Narshe is split into regions- there are three- North, Central and South Narshe.
The so-called merge came about after the British authorities believed it would be easier to treat the Narsheans and Teawans equally. Previous Governors had preference over the Teawans due to its lush geography and the influx of luxury goods there. This all changed with the induction of Liberal Governor James T Erstweiler.
The people elect governors every 12 years, however a select few refuse to take part in elections- claiming them as nothing more than a “farce” by the British Government. This is more than often not the case- the British Government has always held a policy of “free reign” over the two islands, as they are self-governing. More often than not, the Governors actually make a significant contribution and difference to how the country is run.
The Commonwealth of British Teawaland is a small, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 8 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Social Welfare, although Education and Healthcare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 68%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Door-to-door Insurance Sales.
The death penalty has been reintroduced, a well-funded social safety net protects the unfortunate, citizens select which government department gets their income tax pounds each year, and the tenet of free speech is held dear. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare.
Unlike Ouerziland, Teawaland’s history has been relatively peaceful. The island itself started off a holiday resort for wealthy British politicians and businessmen. The first city, Korus City, was founded in 1901. Today it is a thriving tourism resort- renowned for the huge casinos and tourism facilities that are all too common in the south of Teawa.
The North of Teawa is radically different. Although mainly concerned with mining copper, many people are attracted to Kalarta and Port Daxur- they are widely considered the spiritual centre of the country- the first indigenous tribes were found here by the British settlers.

The present government is seated at Kalarta. However, each state has it’s own capital- see below for more details. The capital of Narshe is Berstrom

In terms of Policing, every state in the nation has it’s own Police Force. Vigilante groups are also prevalent in the Western states- New Miami boasts the largest Vigilante gang- the “Mercuries”. It is widely believed that the “Mercuries” are responsible for the lack of youth crime in the region.
