Omni-tech, I have a version in every tech level, from past - future with branches into fantasy and non-human.

Far future fantasy tech.

I am in modern tech, starting to head on into post-modern (EG: My scinetists (Ack, typos from hell) are working on the development of a "Combat Exo-Skeleton")
The Eternal Kawaii

The Eternal Kawaii is a Modern Age nation, although We're still getting the hang of it after having been an isolated "hermit kingdom" for ages.

My nation is 5 years in the future.

Lets see...I'm modern tech all the way to future tech and a little bit of fantasy. I might be adding a little medieval tech into there sometime in the future, but who knows.
Fattistan

Fattistan's tech level is roughly equivalent to that of the most advanced nations during the first world war. (I put "industrial") However, the application of said technology is more ingenious, advanced, or "fantastic." If anyone here is familiar with the concepts of "steampunk" or any of the other <tech>-punks, then you might think of Fattistan as being WWIpunk.

All types of technology and scientific research are allowed in Fluidics, and most receive government funding. However, if any discovery may lead to technology that will threaten my rule, the research is carried out under my personal supervision.
Phalanix

The Shadow Realm of Phalanix is at a far future tech level. Almost 2000 years into the future currently sitting at 3679CE. Though I will jump ahead a decade or two for more interesting aspects.

I'm future tech but not really that far in the future as my nation got a headstart on all other humans.

We've just entered the edges of what others seem to fly in like birds, the sky is open, as are the seas, but the people of stonedeep prefer to live close and benieth this safe warm earth of ours.

How do you know your tec level

Based off of whatever tech level you play your nation in the Forums.

Nationstates itself is set up to be a little post-modern day game, I'd say about 25-50 years ahead of now.

However, if you decide you want to play something different, mix it up a little, you can play something different in the forums.

"Currently"? You've been utter wank for ages.
Villarica

Villarica itself is at everpresent future tech (i.e., arcologies, fuel cells, all the things that are supposedly coming in the next couple of years), although the '20s and '30s could be interesting....

Mostly future, but occasionally use modern, or almost future tech. Very little fantasy.

"Currently"? You've been utter wank for ages.Well, yes. And it's still going on, so it's 'currently' :P
Sarkasis
19-06-2005, 19:28
Sarkasis is a floating nation located in Central Atlantic.

Here is a digest of modern history (for the 2032-2082 period).

The Floating Land Technology was made available in the mid-21th century with the discovery of ultra-light carbon-silica alloys. The so-called CarboSil foam can be mass-produced cheaply and is extremely durable. Someone came up with the concept of "floating land" but it was seen as a stupid idea at the time; there was a worldwide energy crisis, and a few countries sent "floating colonies" on the oceans, in order to investigate the possibility of exploiting deep-sea resources (natural gaz, manganese). Sarkasis was founded when three of these sea colonies decided to attach their floating landmasses and declare themselves independant, June 20th 2077.

We are still waiting for a UN declaration on the legitimity of claiming sea boundaries, with regards to floating nations. We expect our claims for a 200 miles fishing zone to be approved soon. Currently, we have to use gunships and floating mines to keep foreign fishing vessels away from our legitimate fishing zones.

Now, in 2082, people are still dying of hunger in Africa, South-East Asia (notably China, whose population has plumetted to 400 millions) and in the US's extensive Desert Areas (east of the Californian post-quake depression and west of the St Louis Enclave). Lakes, rivers and underground waters are either depleted or heavily polluted.

These days, fresh water can be obtained easily using the high-pressure MicroPore Desalinization Technology (MPDT, a DuPont technology), but most nations don't have a sufficient electricity output to produce enough drinking water for their people. In Sarkasis we are lucky; we found exploitable underwater deposits of natural gaz, which we use for electricity & fresh water production.

In 2044, russian physicist Leonid Ferghanov proved that nuclear fusion reactors were infeasable: in order to reach the point where the reaction is sustainable, you need a ball of helium the size of Manhattan and a 4000 gigawatts containment field. This one was a real downer. Blammer.

Hydrogen power cell projects were also abaondoned, when it was shown that theire production requires 5x their energy output. Not to mention the fact that they degrade quickly when not properly stored in freezers.

These 2 failures left the World with five major energy sources: solar power, wind power, hydro-electric, nuclear and coal.

During the energy crisis of the 2050s (which started shortly after the Ferghanov statement), the US tried to get a hold on uranium producing countries (most notably Niger and Iran) in a desperate attempt to secure access to the world's last "interesting" resources (since petrol and natural gaz were almost depleted). Unfortunately, this happened at a time of intense desertification in the midwest, water scarcity, a food crisis, and endless cyclones in the south. The US army was quickly overstretched, and this led to a conscription crisis, civil unrest and violent popular uprisings in the eastern US cities. While social order was in shambles, Mexicans were pouring in by the thousands (to flee a deadly heat wave), while Maine and Vermont were trying to join Canada. Soon enough, the whole US army had to get back on the US soil, trying to restore social order. In the meantime, the US army units left in foreign territories were underpaid and malnourished. Massive desertions followed. The last major action undertaken by the US army (before its collapse) was to drop a tactical nuke on Teheran.

Worldwide, all the known uranium deposits were depleted in 2068, anyways.

Since our "parent" countries (USA, Canada, the France-Germany Union and the Mercosur Federation) don't have enough political will or military power to stop us, the Sarkasian independence process went smoothly.

We're proud to be one of the few nations where nobody is starving or being killed by angry mobs. Our people live happily, peacefully and respect the environment. We have democracy and legal citizens have perfect civil rights. We intend to keep our nation's growth well under control. Trespassers, tourists and illegal immigrants will be killed at gunpoint.
