The Lagoon Nebula

OOC: Effectively, the technology found here is a plot device to get my country forward into space tech, seeing as its on a planet in the middle of a nebula.

The Planet 'Tiberus'
The Constitutional Monarchy of the Lagoon Nebula was a long ago transported group of humans who had taken refuge inside of the Lagoon Nebula. They had found a temperate world, orbiting a G2V star deep inside the Nebula. They settled the world, eventually losing the technology that had brought them to their new home. They established a constitutional monarchy after a generation of strife, the government lasting ten generations.
Recently, a large shooting star could be seen on the horizon from the capital of Tiberus City. It appeared as if it had impacted the ground, so an expedition was sent to investigate. What they found shocked and amazed the entire world.
In a shallow crater lay a vessel, roughly 200 meters long, broken and battered against the hard ground. Its markings had become obscured and its crew had died on impact. The investigators took samples of the hull, what survived of the computer core, weapons, the shield generator, and most importantly: the FTL drive, which had survived impact. The bodies of the dead were buried, the government providing full military honors due to their appearance as a military crew.
The Computer Core was analyzed, but much of the data had either been corrupted or destroyed. User interfaces, AI, additional technology skematics, and several starcharts were recovered. from the data, but nothing about the people who had constructed it. A few private logs and recordings were found, showing the people to be much like them, except they were strongly socialist/communist and spoke with a slightly mixed Latin/English language rather than the standard English used by those inhabiting the Lagoon Nebula.
After the cultural data was unveiled, the population took on a frenzy, trying to learn the language of the outsiders, their ways, what little of the culture they knew. Socialism took root, with many representatives from the provinces taking socialist stances with their politics. King Charlies V, although disturbed by the rapid shift of politics, was able to maintain power by adapting to the situation.
The technology also stirred change. The armor and chassis design enabled the inhabitants of the Lagoon Nebula to begin planning to build ships. Plans for fusion generators, the actual units having been destroyed in the crash, provided engineers with the basis on which to design fusion generators for commercial use. Experimental gravity drives were also found, incredibly intact. The shields would need repairs, but with the plans in the ship's computer database, could be reverse engineered later.
The FTL drive, a solid-state hyperspace module, was an incredible find. It would allow them to finally expand into neighboring star systems and to colonize the rest of the nebula, maybe even exploit the resources of the nebula to help them thrive better than they had over the previous few generations (their population only climbing to 5 million after long and hard work).
The people of the Lagoon Nebula began to construct commercial vessels to begin trade and to experiment with the technology, with the military keeping a close eye on it. Eventually, the Lagoon Nebula could build military ships and trade ships capable of projecting military and economic power beyond the bounds of the nebula, but it would be a long time before that could happen. For now, they would begin to expand the nebula they called home.
