Spruitland

Two Spruitland teams have arrived in Fmjphoenix to compete in the first edition of the Takil Cup, a tournament where the teams are expected to score more often than a nympho in a singles bar and “defender” is a dirty word.
Both Sporting Mayo and Thiel United mostly use a 3-defender-tactic, and for the Takil Cup the defenders have been put on strict striker training, practicing their shooting and crossing. Goalkeepers are expected to be thoroughly black and blue when they return home, but nobody really cares about that – except the goalkeepers themselves, perhaps.
Sporting Mayo
Coach: Dennis Friskin (52)
Starting eleven:
1. Simon Briers (GK)
2. Fabiano Vos (DRC)
3. Asa Noegel (DL)
4. Hakan Ostrander (DC)
5. Jens Hagen (MC)
6. Malovar Stokks (Vilita) (MLC)
7. Samson Trouwel (MR)
8. Willy Diard (ST)
9. Danny West (Hypocria) (ST)
10. Edmund Kidder (ST)
11. Oringo Leonard (AML)
Sporting Mayo are the current First Division champions, winning the title last season by a wide margin. Their tactic can vary between a 3-4-3 or an offensive 4-4-2. For this tournament, they’ll obviously be using the former.
Man to watch will be new addition Danny West, impressing for Hypocria at the Under-21 World Cup. Vilitan veteran Malovar Stokks is the driving force on midfield, Samson Trouwel the creative spark on the right wing, while Under-21 goalkeeper Simon Briers may not enjoy this tournament much.
Thiel United
Coach: Lars Poulet (41)
Starting eleven:
1. Sammy Samuelsen (GK)
2. Rigoberto (Starblaydia) (DR)
3. Paul Strutt (DL)
4. Nico Van Dyck (DC)
5. Ulrich De Ridder (MC)
6. Willy Dickson (MC)
7. Fred Starr (AM R)
8. Carl Karlus (ST)
9. Ben Thorsen (ST)
10. Jeff Wong (AM/F C)
11. Balt Luyckx (AM L)
Thiel United are the current First Division runners-up and they will be hoping to do better in the new season. They’ll play their standard 3-4-3 system, though it can also be called a 3-4-1-2, with Jeff Wong in support of deep strikers Karlus and Thorsen.
Starblaydi’s Rigoberto is one of the stars of the team, though, being a defender, his role at the Takil Cup is expected to be minimal. Other players of note are Under-21 regulars Nico Van Dyck and Ulrich De Ridder. Striker Ben Thorsen and left winger Balt Luyckx are expected to be called up to the Spruitland senior national squad for the upcoming Baptism of Fire.

Folenisa have unveiled their official club anthem (OOC: familiar, ayone? We did it! :D ;))
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid
Of the dark
At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet, silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed
And blown
Walk on
Walk on
With hope
In your heart
And You'll Never Walk Alone
You'll Never Walk Alone

Timber! Portland falls in opener
Portland Timbers Coach Kerry Tanner played goalkeeper for the Sarzonian national team in its very beginning, helping to lead the team to near misses with the World Cup finals at stake thanks in part to a Stars team with a solid defence.
Unfortunately, the Timbers seem to have forgotten how to play on their side of the pitch, as their defence allowed seven goals on only nine shots on goal en route to a 7-3 loss to Thiel United of Spruitland in the first match of the inaugural Takil Cup for teams playing an attack-oriented style of football.
"What can I say? I even considered putting myself in to play keeper," Tanner said. "I asked [assistant coach Ross Treadway] if we could play System Karela. That's how bad things got."
The Timbers are known for their goalscoring prowess in the Incorporated Football Federation. They're also known for being a dominant regular season side, but have only once translated that regular season brilliance into postseason glory, as the team has been frustrated time and again by the Woodstock Wild. However, the Timbers' loss set a record for most goals allowed in a single match.
"We're going to have to pick things back up and start over," Tanner said. "This was just ugly. We'll eat the tape if we have to so we can forget this game ever happened."
Goalkeeper Troy Perkins, out with a slight ankle injury after coming out of retirement to serve as a reserve goalkeeper, will get the start in the team's next match against the San Diego Iguanas of Bedistan. Matt Cheney got the start and allowed five goals before the half ended 5-1 in favour of United. Robb Gregg started the second half and made the only two saves the Timbers would get, but also conceded two goals to put the Timbers down 7-1 before they scratched back to 7-3.
"I'm hoping Troy will be the good luck charm," Tanner, Perkins' former backup on the national team, said. "I don't know what else to do."

Vtorbetin Still Can't Win
Four competitions. Four competitions Vtorbetin have played at least one game in, and they are still yet to record a victory, or indeed a draw. Despite all the attempts to play fair, despite all the different tactics used, and even despite all the subtle attempts to cheat, Vtorbetin simply cannot win...at anything. After losing 8-0 to Starblaydia in an ice hockey tournament, the awkward trend continued, as Lofthu Negalia lost 3-1 to Oliver City FC and Vermiert Jaskolja lost 4-2 to the Oaker Sharks. Here's what some random passer-by had to say:
"Oh dear God please, just let us win a game! We can control our drinking and our bladders, I promise! We just...want...some points!!!!"
And this is what Lofthu coach Joshua Hickson had to say:
"Oh dear God please, just let us win a game! We can control our drinking and our bladders, I promise! We just...want...some points!!!!"
The head of the Vtorbetin emergency FA said this:
"Oh dear God please, just let us win a game! We can control our drinking and our bladders, I promise! We just...want...some points!!!!"
I think that says it all. And so it is that we implore every single Vtorbetite (not Vatorbettians, as the Starblaydians - purposefully incorrect, we hasten to add - have taken to calling us) to get behind the teams in the Cherry Cup, the Takil Cup, and eventually the Baptism of Fire Cup, and spur them on to racking up some points. Let's face it, one day, they simply have to win a game. Let it be tomorrow.

"Takilans!" said Takil Salan, the coach of Lemekanil Veran 80'la, and shook his head when the 'street-dwellers'* scored against the fmjphoenician team Vanguard Eagles. If his team made such an eclatant defensive mistake, they would only be given alcohol free light beer after the match. There are mistakes, which even a H11SR team doesn't make unpunished. Okay, at this time, the eagles already led 3:0 (and the referree did not count one goal for them), so the goal did change nothing at all. The Lemekanilans however saw that as a sign to keep attacking, maybe because Salan promised the entire team free beer for every goal for. Fortunately, for a takilan team, having a defense is a clear no and so the 'street-dwellers' had some chances. In the 89th minute, the unexpected, the incredible, the simply impossible did happen: The eleventh-league team consisting of only amateurs scored a second time against the professional first-league team. Third-choice goalie Brian Hill had no chance to stop the shot of insurance salesman Aeheuiray Neameu.
David did this time not defeat Goliath but the two goals were very important for the mood in the team.
The score:
Vanguard Eagles 3 (Lugo 5th 18th, Shape 39th)
Lemekanil Veran 80'la 2 (Sunvaril 78th, Neameu 89th)
*suffixes indicating relation are often omitted in Rejistanian, the term enju-yjik can mean homeless or 'living at the street' (Lemekanil is basically a few houses at one street). That is where the nickname came from.

Partizan Hit Six but Reavers are Routed
It was a mixed day for Hypocria’s representatives in the Takil Cup as both faced oppositions from Lethislavania.
President Cup winners Partizan Drissa recorded a great 6 – 3 win in their group 1 match up against Lead Fire FC. Forward Alex Liberda staked his claim for a place in the BoF squad with a first half hat trick, the other goals came from Dospel, Kreska and Powell.
In the other group 1 matches the World Eaters of Blessed Restraint bit off more than they could chew and were hammered by Liverpool England’s IDEXO while Lofthu Negalia kept up Vtorbetin’s proud sporting record by losing to Oliverry side Oliver City FC.
In group 2 Pylos City weren’t as lucky as they went down 4 -1 in Boilingbrook United. Midfielder Bora Burdali hit The Reavers’ only goal and they now sit at the bottom of the group. “At least we can’t get any lower”, were coach Santoro’s words of wisdom at the post match press conference.
Elsewhere in the group Sunnyslope FC of Fmjphoenix but Limogon Beroniers of Oliverry and Liverpool England side Folenisa drew 2 – 2 with Cockbill Street’s Rizh’peith K’druz’ba.
The second round of matches pits the Hypocrian sides against Oliverry’s representatives as Partizan face Oliver City FC and Pylos take on Limogon Beroniers. How good is the opposition? We don’t know. What are the Hypocrian teams chances? Well, we don’t know that either. You’ll just have to stay tuned to find out.

Goals galore in Spruitland’s Takil Cup games
Sporting Mayo - Harewood FC (Cockbill Street) 4 – 5
Thiel United - Portland Timbers (Sarzonia) 7 – 3
With ten goals, the Thiel United game against Sarzonia’s Portland Timbers was the highest scoring game of the first matchday in the Takil Cup, followed closely by a few nine-goal games, Sporting Mayo’s match-up with Cockbill Street’s Harewood FC being one of them.
Thiel had a surprisingly easy evening against the reigning World Champions’ most respected club team. With lethal finishing and solid defending, the Thiel players could head into the dressing room with a 5-1 lead and a firm grin on their faces, confident that the first three points were as good as earned.
“With my regards to their goalie,” striker Ben Thorsen smiled as he headed into the catacombs. “Fellow seems a bit pre-occupied today. But I’ll take it any way I can.”
Thorsen scored two before half time, the second a slider going straight through Timber goalkeeper Matt Cheney’s legs. Cheney fumbled on a high cross as well, leaving Jeff Wong an easy tap in, and the direct free kick by Balt Luyckx just before half time may have been well placed, but it lacked the strength to justify the goalkeeper’s complete lack of response. Matt Cheney did not return to the field after the break.
The second half was a bit more even, both teams scoring twice on top of a few more missed chances, but the match lacked suspense at all times thanks to Thiel’s comfortable early lead. The four goal difference was enough to put Thiel United in the lead of their group.
There was no lack of suspense in Sporting Mayo’s match against Harewood FC, both teams never being more than one goal apart. Mayo took the early lead, but Harewood did an up-and-over to go into half time with a 1-2 lead.
The second half was a true cup-match classic, with Sporting Mayo managing to score an equalizer three times, making it 4-4 mere seconds before the end of full time, but they were unable to hold on to the draw, Harewood sneaking one more goal past Briers deep into stoppage time.
Coach Dennis Friskin was slightly disappointed with the result, but said he was fairly pleased with the team’s overall performance.
“This tournament is mainly preparation for next season for us,” Friskin said. “Defending our First Division title, that’s our main goal. A high level tournament against top teams from all over the world is a perfect way to get into shape.”
All Sporting Mayo supporters’ eyes were on newly acquired Hypocrian striker Danny West in his official debut for his new team. West was unable to impress against Harewood FC, though he did score Mayo’s second goal, right after half time.
“Nothing to worry about,” striker Edmund Kidder, who opened the score for Mayo, said. “It was Danny’s first game, and we were having some trouble connecting on the field. It’s hard to anticipate each other’s moves when you haven’t been playing together for a long time. But he scored a goal, and that’s important. That’s the kind of striker we need: someone who can still score even when he’s having a crappy day.”
Someone who seems to be immune to crappy days is right winger Samson Trouwel. Last season’s First Division Man of the Season played another outstanding game, scoring twice in the second half. Trouwel has just signed a contract for Druid Premier League club Cranbury United, but was allowed to stay in Fmjphoenix to finish the Takil Cup with Sporting Mayo.
“These are my last few games with Mayo,” Trouwel said, “so I want to give it my best, for the supporters and the rest of the team.”
“I’m looking forward to my big move to Druida,” he added. “It will be weird not getting on the same plane as these fellows, though.”
On matchday two, Thiel United will play against tough home team Vanguard Eagles, while Sporting Mayo should manage a relatively easy win against Vtorbetin’s Vermiert Jaskolja. Vtorbetin has not been active on the international sports scene for very long, but has already made a name for itself by entering teams in various competitions only to lose every single game they play.
“We certainly don’t want to break that tradition,” Mayo coach Dennis Friskin commented with a smile.

Street Get Off Well, Score Goals
Seven Goals In Two Games - Still Weak, Says Coaches
Both Rizh'peith K'druz'ba and Harewood FC got off to decent starts in the first Takil Cup in Fmjphoenix, scoring a number of goals and also winning games - although the coach of the two teams said that was a coincidence. "There are a lot of teams around here who want to entertain the crowd, and that's the main goal of this tournament. There's no doubting that the quality of the football is suffering from playing only three backs," Olaf Axewielder, coach of Rizh'peith K'druz'ba, said before he was taken away to be examined for va'karela poisoning.
The Harewood FC manager, Alan Joyce, was more positive, saying that "the team played well today, five goals is an excellent effort against hungry spruits who definitely fought well today. Injury-time winners are always good to get, it shows the team has got some good fighting spirit and stamina." He was also pleased with Bedistani striker Tony Orr, who continued with his development with three goals in the match.
Despite the pessimism expressed by the Rizh'peith coach, their fans are still hoping for wins against hosts Sunnyslope FC of Fmjphoenix, who won their first game by 5-3, while Boilingbrook United of Lethislavania and Folenisa of Liverpool England will also be fearsome opponents. Pylos City of Hypocria, although reasonably unknown, have a good manager in Alex Santoro and a creative midfielder in Bora Burdali, and should not be underestimated.
Harewood FC, meanwhile, have already faced Sporting Mayo of Spruitland and won 5-4. However, the Oaker Sharks - identical to the national team that reached the World Cup final - will be a strong opponent, along with the Sonoma Center Panthers of Commerce Heights and Navarre Town of Bedistan, 11th-placed in the Bedistan Premier League last season. However, it can be argued that Harewood has an easier group than the Streetian champions Rizh'peith.

Perkins raids Iguanas, 7-5
The result was not one that will make any defenders or goalkeepers happy, but in a football tournament devoted to attacking football, a defensive struggle would be missing the point. Regardless, the Portland Timbers rebounded from their opening match loss by beating the San Diego Iguanas of former World Cup champions Bedistan 7-5, evening their record at 1-0-1.
"This has not been the hallmark of our style of football," Timbers Coach Kerry Tanner said. "We haven't been responsible in the defensive third and it's come back to bite us to the tune of six goals against per game. That's not getting the job done."
With goalkeeper Troy Perkins still hobbled by his ankle injury, the Timbers only played the former national team mainstay for the first half, during which the Timbers scored six goals and Perkins made three saves to help take the Timbers into the half up 6-0. Robb Gregg started the second half for Portland, but gave up four goals in 25 minutes to bring the Iguanas back into the match, forcing Tanner to send Matt Cheney in to finish up.
"I can't get a good game out of either of those guys," Tanner said in exasperation. "I'm going to ask Sawbones [team doctor Calvin Tinney] about getting Perkins some cortisone. I'm going to ask the Takil Cup people if I can suit up. We've got to do something about our atrocious defending and goalkeeping."
Tanner denied media reports that suggested the team was seriously considering adopting System Karela for the tournament.
"It would take us all [expletive] year to learn Karela," Tanner said. "We aren't going to pick it up in two days of training."

The World Eaters have won their first match in international competition!
Captain Retief Nygaard says "it was a hard fought victory, and is a great first step towards our quest to become an international soccer power!"
Striker Dmitri Ivanovich, in arguably the greatest performance of his career hit 4 goals. "I was in a zone you know, our speed offense was working and balls were always coming at me, so I just kept kicking them into the goal. Long live Blessed Restraint!"
And there we have it folks, a small country's first international win ever. It is a momentous occasion and the country is proud of their heroes!

The day was sunny, the grass was green, the sky was blue, both teams were prepared and the referee was... Sux? That can ruin the best day! The Abysmali referee has his name for a reason. Fans of the Thunderbirds protested against this referee (the fans of Lemekanil only did not protest because they lacked existence), but the fmjphoenician FA declared the protest pure racism. Even the fact that Abysmals always trey to fail and admit that was called racism by the FA. There was no discussion that Sux did his job in a way, which qualifies him for international level, unfortunately, this is no compliment, on lower levels, there would have been a hot-blooded player, who would prefer to beat Sux to pulp due to his misdecisions instead of considering his career. Lemekanil took the lead due to one of Sux's misdecisions. Sux declared a situation worth a penalty, which wasn't even a real foul. Sunvaril'he shot scored. the unthinkable did happen, the heven kemje'het team was leading against a first division team. Of course, the laws of soccer apply also if the referee is as Abysmal as Sux and even if every second goal was not counted for the Thunderbirds, it just means that they score 7 times instead of 14. And even if Lemekanil has an advantage because one capitalizt player was red-carded, that only means they do not lose as high. Coach Takil Salan said later: "I was shocked when we took the lead, that is sure. But now I can alm down since herll did not freeze!"

Partizan Share Spoils in 18 Goal Extravaganza
But
Pylos Lose Again
The Takil Cup is all about attacking football, there is nothing unusual about goal laden games. The highest scoring game of matchday 1 was the 10 goals shared between Thiel United of Spruitland and Sarzonia’s Portland Timbers. On matchday 2 Partizan Drissa and Oliver City FC beat that by a full 8 goals and still there was no winner.
Partizan Drissa 9 – 9 Oliver City FC
It was a match with few rivals, a feast of attacking flair and trickery in a game that sent any advocates of System Karela running for the exits.
With BoF places up for grabs striker Alex Liberda has surely secured his ticket to Vilita and Fmjphoenix with his 5 goal haul, taking his total in the competition to an extraordinary 8 goals in just 2 games, “I love this competition”, the delighted frontman said after the match. The other Drissa goals came courtesy of Dospel, Marshall (2) and Cohen.
Sadly goalkeeper Andy Buffel, who was a gibbering wreak at the final whistle, may well have ruined his own chances, conceding 9 goals is not exactly ideal preparation.
Elsewhere in Group 1 the World Eaters of Blessed Restraint gained their first ever victory with a hard fought 5 - 4 win over Lead Fire FC. Meanwhile Vtorbetin side Lofthu Negalia shocked the world by actually winning, something Vtorbetin sports teams have seemed unwilling to do. They beat IDEXO 6 – 4. The results mean that Partizan Drissa sit proudly on top of Group 1, above Oliver City FC on goal difference. With 15 goals scored in 2 matches they are also the competition’s top scorers and in this competition that is some accolade.
Unfortunately Hypocria’s other, and higher profile, representatives are making all the wrong headlines as a second defeat sees The Reavers propping up Group 2.
Pylos City 3 – 6 Limognon Beroniers
The side from Oliverry were simply too good for The Reavers to handle and were worthy winners. The Pylos goals came from Burdali, Varas and Petras. After the match coach Santoro remained upbeat, “This is not the start we had in mind and with Rizh'peith K'druz'ba up next it doesn’t get any easier. But we’re not going to give up, we’ll keep fighting and will look to turn it around.”
With the BoF in mind again, it remains to be seen whether the decision to play Hypocria’s number 1 goalkeeper, Ricardo Kindelan, in a competition almost guaranteed to destroy any keeper’s confidence will have any dire consequences.
Also in Group 2 Sunnyslope FC maintained their 100% record with a 7 – 4 win over Liverpool England side Folenisa while Rizh'peith K'druz'ba edged out Boilingbrook United 7 – 6. While Partizan top their group Pylos City sit rock bottom of Group 2.

Draw for Mayo, loss for Thiel
Vermiert Jaskolja (Vtorbetin) - Sporting Mayo: 6 – 6
Vanguard Eagles (Fmjphoenix) - Thiel United: 6 – 4
Those who thought matchday 1 of the Takil Cup had a lot of goals were in for a bit of a shock on matchday 2. The first day saw a highest scoring game with 10 goals, but that record was thoroughly shattered by an 18 goal draw – and in fact, very few games on the second day had less than 10 goals.
Thiel United had a rough time against home team Vanguard Eagles. They managed to score only four goals (two for Thorsen, one for Wong and one for Rigoberto), and at the Takil Cup that is proving not nearly good enough if you want to win the match. Goalkeeper Sammy Samuelsen had to pick the ball out of his net 6 times.
The game had started evenly, going into half time with a 3-3 score, but in the second half the home team had the clear advantage and secured the win. Thiel coach Lars Poulet was disappointed with the result, but is confident that his team will be able to bounce back against Rejistania’s Lemekanil Veran 80'la.
Sporting Mayo did somewhat better than their first day defeat, though the 6-6 draw against Vtorbetin’s Vermiert Jaskolja was far below expectations. Having lost all their games in any sport so far, the Vtorbetin team was supposed to lose graciously, but it didn’t turn out that way.
“Well, erm… yeah. We, erm… felt sorry for them,” goalkeeper Simon Briers said after the match, nodding vigorously until he had convinced himself he was telling the truth. “So we figured we’d let them get a point. No big deal for us.”
Mayo shouldn’t have been quite so obliging though, as the other Vtorbetin team in the Takil Cup, Lofthu Negalia, even won their match. Their opponents from Liverpool England must have felt even more generous.
Sporting Mayo will play Oaker’s national team next, the very team that made it to the World Cup final recently, and coach Dennis Friskin is not happy about that.
“I thought this was a tournament for club teams,” he said, going on to mutter something about what he thought should be done to managers who sign up their team for every damn tournament without even reading the application form properly.
“I’d complain to the organizers, but I guess it’s a bit late for that now,” Friskin said. “We’ll just have to show our discontent on the field instead.”

Vtorbetin Teams Win...Finally
It's taken ten matches to do it, but Vtorbetin have finally got their first win under their belt. Lofthu Negalia made history by beating IDEXO of Liverpool England (a team in dire straits domestically) 6-4 in a highly entertaining match. Meanwhile, Vermiert Jaskolja were also busy, drawing six all with Sporting Mayo of Spruitland, a nation doing well in everything for no particular reason, which was also pretty good, despite remaining bottom of their group.
Both teams have reacted angrily to the suggestion by members of the Spruitland clan that they received pity points. Raymond Esquivel of Vermiert had this to say:
"I understand that Mayo were disappointed to only draw with us, but they have only themselves to blame. They underestimated us, they let us play our game, and we embarrassed them. For a team that was supposed to 'lose graciously', in their words, we came out and proved we've got what it takes. Any suggestion of them letting us get a point is purely an attempt to deflect the blame. Every point is crucial at this early stage, and Mayo haven't yet got the points to be able to give them away. If we look at the table, they're in exactly the same situation as us - they've got nothing to shout about."
Meanwhile Joshua Hickson of Lofthu Negalia was slightly less perturbed.
"We are champions of the Vtorbetin amateur league, and IDEXO have just been relegated. I think the talent gap between our two sides is slim, and I believe there was no reason why we should not have beaten them. We simply scored our goals, and there was nothing they could have done to prevent them, just like there was nothing we could have done to prevent theirs. We won, and the victory was in our hands - simple as that."
And so, with the the first win achieved, can Vtorbetin use this as a catapult to bigger and better things? With the BoF coming up, and the chance to prove to doubters like Spruitland that the nation really has something to offer, we wouldn't put it past them.

Rizh'peith, Harewood Unbeaten
Quarter-Final Appearance Looks Likely
The Streetian teams participating in the Takil Cup in Fmjphoenix are having the time of their lives. Rizh'peith K'druz'ba have carried the fine form from the Compound League into the international stage, as they came back from 2-5 down to beat Boilingbrook United of Lethislavania 7-6 in a field-hockey-esque encounter, before finally keeping some defensive dignity as they beat Pylos City of Hypocria comfortably - by a 6-3 margin.
In fact, the Streetian sides haven't been involved in the most entertaining matches. Several sides have scored nine goals - the 9-9 match between Partizan Drissa and Oliver City probably the most screaming - but, interestingly, both Rizh'peith and Harewood have scored fifteen goals and conceded eleven. However, Rizh'peith started their campaign with a disappointing draw, while Harewood have won all their games so far - in fact, Rizh'peith might still go out, as they're facing Sunnyslope FC on the last day of the group stages. Harewood, however, have grown an almost unassailable five goal lead, and are playing the group's whipping boys - Vermiert Jaskolja - who have conceded 18 goals so far, and where Tony Orr should fit in.
In the meantime, Sarah Cawdron and Rizh'peith are also showing promising signs, though Sarah was rounded about twenty-odd times and didn't mind much. As she said after the game: "we're here to have fun with the ball, not tackle and injury people. We know that we're much more likely to score than our opponents." And with a player like Zack Martínez in the squad, she might just be right. Martínez has a total of five goals and a further seven assists in the tournament, and most of the play goes through on the left wing - something that we hope that the Limognon Beroniers don't observe before their next match.
Harewood, meanwhile, are up against the World Cup finalists Oaker Sharks, who nevertheless have been weak and need a big victory in the upcoming game to avoid elimination. Harewood are on song, however, and are looking to put at least eight goals past the Oaker keeper - in which case they have to put nine past Ivan van Oosterom. Like that's gonna happen.

It was the evening before matchday 3. The Street-dwellers were in a pub and were busy getting drunk on imported beer. Suddenly a discussion started in the team. Takil thought he saw one of the spruitlanders. Siaana Auitil decided simply to ask him: "Hey, aren't you Wong'he... of Thiel?"
He did not look satisfied that he was recognized: "Would it make a difference?"
"It would, we are going to play you tomorrow!" said Sil Naoixi with a glass in his hand.
"Ready to lose?" asked the Spruitlander.
"We are when you are!" said Auitil'he grinning!
"We will not lose against a bunch of amateurs from the lowest league!" said Wong. Other players from his team arrived.
"Come on, you can not even win a drinking contest with me!"
It came like it had to come, members of Thiel United challenged the LV80ers to drinking duels. The results were unconclusive and not remembered the day later. However the match did not profit from the fact that both teams had a serious hangover. Lemekanil 80'la had the advantage of being used to play with that level of blood alcohol. Maybe the fact that the Spruitlander defenders lost the drinking duels was the reason why the Street-Dwellers scored six times and profited from a an own-goal from Thiel. The Rejistanians would make no Karelan happy because they conceded 6 goals. Goalie Minedaja Inavil commented the match with a term, which was bleeped out by the national rejistani media.

Lofthu Laughing; Jaskolja Scowling
The two Vtorbetin teams looking tobe heading their separate ways in this competition, with Lofthu Negalia looking good for the next round and Vermiert Jaskolja looking good for last place in their group.
Lofthu Negalia got their second win in a row over group fodder Lead Fire FC of Lethislavania (one of two teams on a 0-0-3 record in the competition). a 5-2 victory saw the seven-pronged attack at it's best, and the win could have extended into double figues but for some amazing saves from the Lead Fire keeper. In this uber-attacking competition, Lofthu Negalia boast the joint-best defence with Fmjphoenix side Vanguard Eagles, having conceded a mere nine goals in three games. With only the Blessed Restraint and the Hypocria sides left to face, Lofthu are looking good for Round Two.
Vermiert Jaskolja, on the other hand, are looking to avoid finishing last in their groups. The gorpu was deemed rather difficult at the tournament's start, and it has proved to be so, the team's latest defeat coming against the side from Bedistan. They now face a near impossible taks if they want to get through to the next stage. Wins against group leaders Harewood FC (yet to lose a game) and Sonoma Center Panthers are needed, and even then results need to go Vermiert's way. It looks like the team will be taking the early flight home, and the emphasis must now shift to getting off the bottom.
So, with the two sides fortunes differing so much, can one, or maybe even both, make it through? Perhaps neither will progress in a cruel twist of fate reserved for those that nobody likes that much. One thing's for sure: anything is still possible.

Bad loss for Thiel, Mayo improving
Sporting Mayo - Oaker Sharks (Oaker) 5 – 3
Thiel United - Lemekanil Veran 80'la (Rejistania) 6 – 7
Thiel United suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Rejistani low division team Lemekanil Veran 80'la. Spruitland’s First Division runners-up played without inspiration and seemed unwilling to move more than they absolutely had to. The most vividly executed Thiel maneuver was when the entire back line sprinted to the dressing room as soon as the half-time whistle sounded, hands covering their mouths.
“I erm… think we ate something that didn’t agree with us,” central defender Nico Van Dyck explained after the match. “This Fmjphoenician food’la is really slani. Maybe we… Excuse me!” And of he went with lightning speed towards the press center bathrooms.
Nevertheless, the Spewing Spruitlanders did manage to score seven goals – unfortunately, one of them was scored into the wrong goal, resulting in a painful 6-7 defeat.
“That’s football,” Thiel coach Lars Poulet shrugged. “One day you beat a Sarzonian top team, the next you lose to a bunch of Rejistani nincompoops. We want to do a puke and rally though – we’ll be looking to wipe the floor with our next opponents. Those Iguanas better hang on to their tails.”
Sporting Mayo did a lot better, playing their best match of the tournament so far against the Oaker national team. With goals from Stokks and Kidder in the first half, and a clean Danny West hattrick in the second half, the Oaker boys never stood a chance.
Oaker did manage to score three times (goals by Oaker, Oaker and Oaker), but their generally lackluster performance makes one wonder how they ever got to the final of the latest World Cup. Some critics think the unexpected length of their World Cup campaign has thoroughly worn out the Oaker team, which would explain their dreadful performance at the Takil Cup.
“Physically they seem ok, I think the problem’s up here,” Mayo right winger Samson Trouwel said, tapping his temple. “They’re not focused on their game at all, it’s like their mind is somewhere else altogether. I dunno, maybe they just like to travel around from tournament to tournament.”
The win moves Sporting Mayo up to third place in their group with the upcoming match against second placed Bedistani team Navarre Town one that has to be won to retain a chance at a second round spot. With Thiel United playing the San Diego Iguanas, matchday 4 will see a double Spruitland-Bedistan face-off that could prove very interesting.

Pylos Get First Win
But
Partizan Sink Like a Stone
The confidence in the Partizan Drissa camp evaporated as they lost games three and four to drop from top of the group to fifth.
Partizan Drissa 5 – 9 World Eaters
Conceding 9 goals in a game is unfortunate, to do it in successive games is just plain careless. Partizan keeper Buffel is certainly going to need therapy after this tournament as he once again saw the goals fly past him. Unsurprisingly neither he nor any of his defensive colleagues have been named in Hypocria’s BoF squad. The same can not be said of striker Alex Liberda who got on the score sheet once again, his ninth of the tournament. It was his strike partners who got there own piece of the limelight in this match as both Dospel and Marshall bagged a brace.
Partizan Drissa 4 – 5 Lofthu Negalia
Liberda hit his tenth and eleventh goals in this one but it wasn’t enough as Partizan were sunk by an injury time strike. The side from Vtorbetin is really picking up momentum, after losing their first game they have now won three in a row and only goal difference stops them topping the group. Marshall and Remy got the other Partizan goals.
Confidence was even worse in The Reaver’s camp as after their third successive defeat, it was set to pick up slightly though . . .
Pylos City 3 – 6 Rizh’peith K’druz’ba
The side from Cockbill Street threatened to run away with this one as the half time whistle blew with The Reavers 5 – 1 down, Varas with the goal. A mini revival in the second half gave the few fans that had traveled from Pylos something to smile about as Pope and Burdali pulled goals back. But there was never any real danger to the men from Cockbill Street who also found the back of the net, for the sixth time, after the interval.
Pylos City 6 – 5 Sunnyslope FC
They remain rooted at the bottom of the Group 2 table but The Reavers will be encouraged after inflicting a first defeat in the competition on Fmjphoenix side Sunnyslope FC. In a match that swung one way and then the other Pylos shared their goals amongst six different players as Varas, Burdali, Gredenko, Petras, Pope and Dawson all found the net. Dawson’s goal came right at the death and finally sealed a topsy-turvy match for The Reavers.
With one group game to go Partizan still have an outside chance of qualification from Group 1 but will need a win over top of the table IDEXO of Liverpool England and for other results to go their way.
Pylos are really just playing for pride now and they know a win over Liverpool England’s other representatives Folenisa will lift them off the bottom of the Group 2 at the expense of their opponents.

Timbers continue rebound
The Sarzonian national team has accomplished much in its seven cup history, including a dominant victory in the most recent World Cup, but one thing the team has never done is defeat a side from Commerce Heights. The Portland Timbers ended that drought, sort of, defeating the Commerce Heights Thunderbirds 7-5 to catapult the team into second place in Group 4, then played Lemekanil Veran 80'la of Rejistania to a 5-5 draw.
"None of the teams in this tournament are distinguishing themselves defensively," Coach Kerry Tanner said. "So far, except for our opening loss to Thiel United, that's been to our benefit."
The Timbers (2-1-1, seven points) face group pacesetters Vanguard Eagles from host nation Fmjphoenix in a match Tanner is calling "critical."
"We're going to be in hostile territory facing the team with the best record -- by far -- in this tournament," Tanner said. "We've got our work cut out for us.

Spruitland teams slapped with trout of superiority
Sporting Mayo - Navarre Town (Bedistan) 4 – 9
Thiel United - San Diego Iguanas (Bedistan) 2 – 8
Well, this Takil Cup sure is fun, ain’t it? How come we’re not laughing, then? Maybe because, oh, let’s see, both Spruitland teams got their asses handed to them by a bunch of Bedistanis-on-steroids?
Both Thiel United and Sporting Mayo have not been playing to their full potential in this competition. With one good game each in four games played, the teams are running out of excuses and it might be time to conclude Spruitland teams are not quite ready to compete at a high international level.
“Nonsense,” Sporting Mayo coach Dennis Friskin said. “On a good day, we can beat anyone. We just haven’t had a whole lot of good days lately.”
“And it’s not like this is a normal tournament,” Thiel goalkeeper Sammy Samuelsen added. “When there’s less than 8 goals scored in a match, the Fmjphoenix football association makes both teams pay a large fine. That’s why we lost to those Iguanas today. That match was clearly headed for a 2-2! But we’re a poor club, from a poor country, unlike those rich Bedistanis. So I let a few goals slip by me.”
Well, perhaps the vat of excuses has not quite been exhausted yet. They’re getting somewhat shakier though. Samuelsen, not generally known as the sharpest knife in the drawer, refused to answer the question how the match could have been headed for 2-2, when half time score was 1-4.
The fact is, Thiel United was bitch slapped by a Bedistani team that was stronger in every area – except good looks, but that quality has only a minor influence on the field. We, of the ever objective Spruitland Sports Gazette, are not afraid to admit that. The midfielders seemed alseep, the forwards barely touched the ball, the goalkeeper was catching flies, and the defense – well, defense is hardly an issue in this cup.
Thiel United is now effectively out of reach of a place in the second round. The last match, against the Commerce Heights Thunderbirds, will only serve to decide who ends in last place of Group 4.
Sporting Mayo still has a chance of advancing to the next round, though it’s not looking too promising. Mayo will need to win their match against the Sonoma Center Panthers, another Commerce Heights team, and hope the Oaker Sharks lose to Bedistan’s Navarre Town. With the high level of inconsistency in pretty much every team’s performance in this cup it’s impossible to predict how this will turn out, but we’re not holding our breath.
Mayo got off to a promising start in their match against Navarre, leading 3-1 at half time, but the tide turned in the second half when goalkeeper Simon Briers decided he wanted to score a goal as well. Briers abandoned his place under the crossbar to camp out in the opponents’ penalty area, making things just a tad easier for the Navarre forwards. He finally saw his efforts rewarded in the 84th minute with a simple rebound tap-in to make the final score 4-9.
“It was worth it,” Briers smiled after the match. “Those strikers have been having all the fun in this tournament. Hell, even the defenders are out there scoring goals. I just wanted my piece of the pie.”

Reporter: "Your team drew 5:5 against the sarzonijan team Portland Timbers (he stutters due to that complicated name). Did you expect such a result?"
Coach Takil Salan: "Of course. As oddball team, which again played as if pubs made record sales yesterday you expect draws, well, you really expect wins, but won't say that because even if your team could beat anyone, admitting that would sound arrogant!"
Reporter: "Honestly now, why did Lemekanil draw against this team?"
Takil Salan: "I guess progressan immigrants would blame the random numbers, religous people would blame Margaret and hardcore Karelans would say it is a proof that there is no such thing as high class takil-soccer!"
Reporter: "What is your explanation?"
Takil Salan: "Pure dumb luck in combination with being relatively sober..."
Reporter: "Okay, that might work! How does it feel like to be in a country where Sistenha Takil is no heresy?"
Takil Salan: "No political qustions please, however I answer, I get thrown out of one country!"
Reporter: "Soccer tactics are political?"
Takil Salan: "In a country, which identifies itself by the philosophy of Karela or Takil, it is!"
Reporter: "Who will replace Hanisaril Imaril in the last match?"
Takil Salan: "There is a minimal chance, that this match is not the last one."
Reporter: "Well, in the next match then!"
Takil Salan: "Most likely Namatil Vesekil."
Reporter: "What is your largest disappointment in this cup?"
Takil Salan: "Largest disappointment? I guess the worst thing was when we played in a sold-out stadium and no one cheered for us! I mean in the H10SR, no one cared how we did. Here, everyone was against us, even though it changed a bit."
Reporter: "One last question: How do you see your chances against the San Diego Iguanas?"
Takil Salan: "Viki, milhan alte je sono - lasane'han jelhet*!"
*Win draw or loss for either team!

Timbers move on, topple Eagles 5-3
Portland Timbers Coach Kerry Tanner was concerned about his team's defence going into the match against the Vanguard Eagles of host country Fmjphoenix. The Timbers allowed 22 goals in four matches going in against the only unbeaten side in the tournament.
However, the Timbers conceded the fewest goals they have in this offensive-minded tournament en route to a 5-3 win. The Timbers will face Sporting Mayo of Spruitland in the second round and the winner of that match will face the Eagles in the quarterfinals.
"This is a good way to close out the group stages," Tanner said. "We're pleased to advance into the next round for the first time in any kind of tournament."
The Timbers failed to advance in either Champions League appearance and the failure to advance had Tanner on the hot seat in Portland. The Timbers are known for being the most talented side in the Sarzonian Football Confederation, but have only one league title to show for their regular season success. This time, the Timbers are advancing in the next round.
"We've got one more match at least," Tanner said. "We'll be ready."

Some random comments from team members.
"We are happy to have advanced, but we will still strive for excellence. Thousands of people are watching us in the home country, and we shant let them down."
"Our strategy is nearly flawless, but we must execute. We can advance only if we focus and dont let our victories get to us."
Hundreds of fans are making plans to go to the game as the first international tourney for Blessed Restraint may come to a close.
"We thank all our fans for their patience and devotion. We will not let you down!"

Sporting Mayo to second round after all!
Commerce Heights Thunderbirds (Commerce Heights) - Thiel United 4 – 3
Sonoma Center Panthers (Commerce Heights) - Sporting Mayo 4 – 6
The double Commerce Heights vs. Spruitland face-off on the final matchday in the group stage saw both nations come away with one win each – but the one that mattered was for Spruitland.
Granted, Thiel United ending in last place in group 4 after yet another loss was somewhat disappointing, but the boys from Thiel are always ready to come up with some sort of excuse.
“We didn’t get much sleep last night,” a droopy eyed Jeff Wong said. “We were out already anyway, so we decided to concentrate on getting even with those nasty Iguanas instead, after that embarrassing defeat.”
“It was just a spur of the moment thing - you know, singing TV-tunes outside their hotel, tossing stinky bombs through their open windows, stuff like that. It escalated a bit when Rigoberto took a crap in a newspaper, set it on fire, and tossed that through a window as well instead of putting it on the doorstep. It was an understandable mistake though, there really was no need for those firemen to go off on us like that.”
Despite a lack of sleep, Thiel United only narrowly lost to the Commerce Heights Thunderbirds in one of the lowest scoring games of the tournament, 4-3.
Sporting Mayo finally found their form and managed to dominate most of the match against the Sonoma Center Panthers. With goals from Stokks (2), West (2), Kidder and Noegel, Mayo took a vital three points, but still had to wait for the result of the match between Navarre Town and the Oaker Sharks. The Sharks nearly made it but didn’t get further than a draw, so Sporting Mayo saw themselves go through to the second round on the basis of a better goal difference.
“Guess we’ll have to unpack our bags again,” goalkeeper Simon Briers said. “Not that we mind, though. We’ll stay as long as we have to. Even though I am getting slightly depressed with all these goals.”
The Spruitland First Division champions will meet Sarzonia’s Portland Timbers in the second round. The Timbers lost badly to Thiel United on the first matchday, but have impressed since then, even beating group winning home team Vanguard Eagles on the last day.
“We’re definitely going in as underdogs,” Mayo coach Dennis Friskin said. “But once you’re in the knock-out stage, everybody starts with clean slates. Anything can happen. They’re a tough team, but if Thiel can beat them, so can we.”

Navarre advances to second round of Takil Cup
FMJPHOENIX -- Firstly, we'd like to apologize for our lack of previous coverage of this event. All news media in Bedistan have been shut down for a while due to Ascension Month celebrations, but now that those have drawn to a close, we are ready to once again provide you with the finest sports journalism in south central Atlantian Oceania.
Navarre Town put up a fine performance in the group stage of the Cup with a 3-1-1 record and a highly impressive 31 goals scored - that's over six per match on average! Navarre's defense is also one of the best in the tournament, allowing only 22 goals. On the final matchday, Navarre successfully fought the world runner-up Oaker national team to a 6-6 draw, a performance any Bedistani club team would be happy with.
Surprisingly, though, the San Diego Iguanas have not seen nearly the same success despite being the more prestigious of the two Bedistani entrants. They crashed to a fifth-place finish in Group 4 after an absolutely humiliating 3-10 loss to Lemekanil Veran 80'la of Rejistania. Now you know you're bad when a Rejistanian side scores ten goals against you in a match, or even in a hundred matches for that matter.
So an odd situation has occurred, with San Diego eliminated and relatively unknown Navarre continuing on to the second round of the tournament, where they hope to take revenge on Lemekanil Veran 80'la for knocking out their fellow countrymen. The team's hopes are high, though.
For a listing of who will be playing in the match for Navarre, see page B19. [OOC: coming soon, I promise!]

Lofthu Progress To Round Of 16
After doing so well in the gropu stage, it is safe to say that Negalia deserved their place in the next round. As the most successful Vtorbetin team in international competition to date, the onus is on them to continue their good form. Their opponents in the next stage are Lethislavanian team Boilingbrook United, who finished third in their group. On form, this should be a win for the team, but there is an air of cautiousness around the training ground, as Joshua Hickson explains:
"We know that we should beat the Leths, but you never know in these competitons. Some teams get through that simply don't deserve to, and I don't think we're going to be exempt from that curse. We'll have to play at our best if we're to progress to the quarter final."
IDEXO of Liverpool England await the winner of this next match. Having already beaten them once, Lofthu can feel quietly optimistic about that game, but United are up first, and that is who the team must concentrate on for now.

Somewhere in fmjphoenix:
The match between San Diego Iguanas from Bedistan and Lemekanil Veran 80'la from Rejistania was about to start and the odds for LV80 were low as low can be. But as a big surprise, somehow Takil Salan managed to keep the team from getting drunk enough to have to crawl to the hotel. That significantly improved the way, the Street-dwellers played. Even though the Iguanas took the lead, the Street-dwellers equalized...
Somewhere in hell:
Devil one: Hey, what is that? *points to the ground*
Devil two: No <CENSORED> idea!
Devil three: Is your brain full of shit? This is a patch of snow!
Devil two: And what the <CENSORED> has it to do HERE, for <CENSORED>'s sake?
Devil three: No <CENSORED> idea!
Somewhere in fmjphoenix:
It was half-time, the score was 1:6. The Street-dwellers played incredibly good and the Iguanas at least substandard, there is no other explanation for this scoreline, because not the Street-dwellers were trailing, but the Iguanas. The defense of the Iguanas was absolutely nonexistant, well it normally is an a takilan tournament, but it was as easy to score for the Street-dwellers as if they were playing the last team from the last division.
Somewhere in hell:
Satan: Brrrrr, I think *shudder* this new central heating *shudder* does not work right! Anyone, get me a <CENSORED> technician! Now!!!!!!!
Later:
Satan: Finally you are here?
Tech: I had to die first!
Satan: Stop that <CENSORED> jokes, or I <CENSORED> you in the <CENSORED>!
Tech: okay, where is your problem?
Satan: <CENSORED>, hell is <CENSORED> freezing over and you <CENSORED> ask?
Tech: I am new here! What did you change?
Satan: I <CENSORED> did not <CENSORED> change a <CENSORED> thing!
Tech: Okay, let me see what you did not change!
Again later:
Tech: Why is 'cooling' switched on? *switches it off* Why is everything else switched off? *switches heating on*
Somewhere in fmjphoenix:
The match ended, the score was an incredible 3:10. The Iguanas scored two goals in the last minutes, but they would have needed Jenji Y or a looong injury time to win the game. Takil Salan said in the press conference: "You can now go home in the knowledge that hell did freeze over!" He did not know how right he was.

Hypocria’s Sides Down And Out
A tournament that started with such promise for Partizan ended in bitter disappointment as their third defeat in three games robbed them of any hope of qualification.
Partizan Drissa 4 – 5 IDEXO
In the final game the group winners showed their class and, despite the narrow scoreline, never looked like losing. The tournament can be considered a personal triumph for striker Alex Liberda who bagged 12 goals in the five group games, his twelve temporarily levelling this match at 3 – 3. His strike partner Dospel took his personal tally to 6 with a brace against the side from Liverpool England and Kreska also got on the score sheet.
There was a strange symmetry to the campaigns of Hypocria’s two representatives. Partizan got 4 points from their first two games and then lost the remaining three. Pylos City lost their first three and gained 4 points from their last two games culminating in the draw with Folenisa.
Pylos City 4 – 4 Folenisa
Striker Varas hit a hat trick and Burdali also scored but it was not enough to take The Reavers off the bottom of Group 2.

Sporting Mayo not going home yet
Portland Timbers (Sarzonia) - Sporting Mayo: 5 – 6
Sporting Mayo advances to the Quarter Finals of the Takil Cup after a narrow victory over Sarzonia’s Portland Timbers. In a game that was as close as the score line suggests, the Spruitland First Division champions came away one goal ahead of the Timbers, who were favorites for the match due to solid performances in the group stage.
“I repeat, the group stages don’t matter,” Mayo coach Dennis Friskin said after the match. “Once you’re through, you take it one match at a time. True, we’ve played a few poor matches in this tournament. But that just made us extra motivated tonight.”
Mayo got off to a dream start with an early double salvo, a free kick goal from Fabiano Vos shortly followed by a devastating strike by Samson Trouwel. Portland took some time formulating a response, but their patient approach, gradually increasing the pressure, paid off as they took control of the match and managed to equalize before half time.
When the Timbers took the lead mere seconds after play resumed in the second half, it was Mayo’s turn to wake up. Young Danny West quickly obliged and scored a fast equalizer, and the Spruitland champions did not look back from then on.
With another beauty from West and a corner kick scramble forced into goal by Edmund Kidder, Mayo went ahead 3-5. The Timbers clawed one back and came close to the equalizer twice, but a fast breakaway ten minutes before full time gave Mayo a two goal lead again at a crucial point in the game.
Despite the name of the tournament and the dissatisfaction of the crowd, Mayo pulled back en masse to defend their advantage. Portland scored once more, but no matter how hard they tried, the ball refused to hit the net a second time. When the final whistle sounded, Sporting Mayo had weathered the storm, earning them a spot in the Quarter Finals.
“Always a shame someone has to lose a tight game like this,” right winger Samson Trouwel said. “I wouldn’t want to say one team was better than the other, tonight. But we were efficient in our finishing and were in the lead for most of the game. That’s important in games like this – it puts the pressure on the other team.”
Sporting Mayo will meet Fmjphoenix home team Vanguard Eagles in the Quarter Finals. The Eagles topped Group 4 with 12 points, ahead of the Portland Timbers, so the Spruitlanders will again go into the game as the underdogs.
“That’s quite alright,” coach Friskin smiled. “We prefer it that way. I expect another close match though, but we’re not without a chance. Ideally, we’ll want to do the same we did tonight: get an early lead, and then try to stay one step ahead.”

Lofthu Through To Round Of Eight (Damn, That Could Have Rhymed)
At the start of this tournament, nobody gave the Vtorbetin teams much of a chance. Even when Lofthu Negalia started to win, people called it a fluke. 'It's a phase - they'll grow out of it', they said. However, Lofthu have proved the critics wrong, and have somehow made it through to the quarter finals of the Takil Cup.
Their last match was against the very quiet team from Lethislavania, Boilingbrook United. Having maintained radio silence throughout this contest, there was no way of gauging how this team would react. This was evident in the way that Lofthu were taken aback by their attacking potency, conceding two goals in the first five minutes. However, three strong counter attacks made it 3-2 within the half hour. After the break the ascendancy was with Bolingbrook, and they took advantage of some sloppy defending to equlise and then take the lead on seventy-three minutes, a through ball fooling everyone and ending up in the back of the net.
A goal in injury time from Lofthu Negalia made it all even, and sent the game into extra time. Usually, extra time consists of uber defensive play, but not in this competition. The front seven of the team went on the rampage, and scored what proved to be the winner in the ninety-second minute. The rest of the half was played out before the referee called time on this close encounter of the third kind. Lofthu progress unexpectedly to the round of eight of the Takil Cup, where they'll face IDEXO, a team they've already beaten once in this competition. They'll be looking to upset the odds again, and prove they're not just a flash in the pan.

Radio RejisCAST actually reported from the insane rise of Lemekanil Veran 80'la. Sirake Tekim ended his report with:
ST: I guess everyone in Rejistania wonders now: Why are these H1SR'he'ny that good? I don't know, the RejisCAST team doesn't know, if you do or if your guess is funny, call me at KaMaRi 12 12 12!
(later)
ST: Oh and we have our first caller, hejida!
Caller1: Hejida Tekim'he, I am Exke Liki from Mikedi!
ST: Hejida Liki'he! What is your explanation for the incredible rise of Lemekanil Veran 80'la?
Caller1: You all know that film where evil aliens stole the talent of top basketball players? The one where Bugs Bunny saved the world?
ST: No!
Caller1: I do not know the title anymore, I did mot like the 'merikan music of it, but I remember it because it was horrible!
ST: I think our listeners know it, I am not allowed into the cinema in Hanin anymore, so I don't.
Caller1: Why aren't you?
ST: It is no good idea to go to the cinema after having eaten beans...
Caller1: Well, what if it happened in real life?
ST: You mean Lemekanil'he'ny are aliens?
Caller1: They play sekhika hetaki, of course they are!
ST: Point! Thank you for contributing! Sa ven!
Caller1: Sa ven!
ST: okay, Do we have a new caller? Elin su?
Caller2: You knew it's me?
ST: Elin Ri su?
Caller2: Indeed, it's my day off and Meje and me were listening to live from the leagues!
ST: Okay Elin, what is your theory?
Caller2: Well, I think one can not eliminate takil completely from a country... Rejistania nearly did it but this team plays attacking soccer as only team in entire Rejistania...
ST: Jie...
Caller2: So all Takil'tan from entire Rejistania concentrated in this team... No wonder they do well when it's only about attacking!
ST: That sounds... spiritual...
Caller2: well, the va'karela'ny, which greatly help our society of course, output the caught takilness somewhere!
ST: This becomes political, I'll talk to you about that in private, okay?
Caller2: Ve ji ka! Don't forget: your turn to bring cheese rolls!
ST: Sa ven!
Caller2: Sa ven!
ST: Do we have another caller here? Preferably one, who doesn't work for RejisCAST? Hejida?
Caller3: Hejida, xe'aru Hisilen Xija!
ST: RejisCAST mi'aru jusa. lanja'visko'il jusa!
Caller3: (with horrible accent) Hejida, I am Hisilen Xija!
ST: Hejida Hisilen! What is your theory?
Caller3: Bets!
ST: Excuse me?
Caller3: Everyone loves sport-betting, and I guess the teams agreed on a ceritan xkoraline to make an exkira!
ST: .. a profit, you mean. How can one play for a 6:4?
Caller3: Well, maybe only on the result, not on the scores, Seeing that this tournament is beyond common sense. Still: No one expects this team to win, everyone bets against them, except their opponents. Then they field their teams best least, get 'jisu-ed and rich!
ST: That sounds... reasonable! Thank you for that insight!
Caller3: Can I just say something?
ST: Yes!
Caller3: Hasna, I love you!
ST: Okay, Sa ven!

Lofthu Tank IDEXO; Make Final Four
It was one of those game where things just went right all night. The omens were good when Lofthu won the coin toss, and they never looked back from then.
Having already beaten IDEXO once in this competition, the team were expecting a resiliant Liverpool England side to be out for revenge. What they got was something akin to a garden tea party, as IDEXO looked to do something outrageous in this attacking tournament: defend.
IDEXO seemed to have a game plan of defend and get a goal when you can - a vital mistake against a front line of seven. Lofthu ripped the back line to shreds, and picked up two goals in the space of twenty minutes. By half time things looked dire for the team from LE, as they were 4-0 down.
Whatever the manager said at half time, it looked to have worked, as IDEXO came out a completely different team. There was an air of the impossible being done as IDEXO went on the rampage and scored twice in the first five minutes. A converted penalty made it 4-3 andit looked like IDEXO might just do it. However, Lofthu pulled it back and retook control. A ball from the half way line shocked the keeper and made it 5-3, and then a successful free kick made it near impossible for IDEXO to get it back.
They tried to, though, make it 6-4 from a foolish goalkeeping error, but the final nail in the coffin came on 82 minutes, when a deflected shot was fumbled by the IDEXO keeper to make it 7-4. As the final whistle went, Vtorbetin fans stormed the pitch as their team celebrated their second win over IDEXO, a team that looks to be in real trouble at home and abroad.
And so, with the celebrations over, it's now dawned on fans that Lofthu Negalia will face Sunnyslope FC of Fmjphoenix. The home advantage will be imperative here, and their good form may signal the end of the road for the Vtorbetites. However, as coach Joshua Hickson says, the team have done more than enough to fill their country with pride for football.
"We've come along way, and we've beaten some established teams to get here. I think we deserve to be here - I don't think there's a more attacking side than us in the tournament - and I think we've already more than shown that Vtorbetin is going to be a world-force in years to come. It might be a long journey, and no doubt there'll be casualties along the way, but we'll get there some day, and hen we can look down at this moment and say 'this is where it all began'."
Look out world - Vtorbetin has just announced itself.

And still not going home!
Vanguard Eagles (Fmjphoenix) - Sporting Mayo: 4 – 5
Another narrow win, but the boys from Sporting Mayo will take it any way they can. With a late goal from Edmund Kidder, Mayo managed to avoid going into extra time against the Vanguard Eagles, who had the home crowd behind them.
The first half was a stormer. With a goal every few minutes and a half time score of 4-4, the match looked to be a contender for the high scoring record. But outstanding performances from both goalkeepers after the break kept that score on the board for an amazing amount of time – almost 50 minutes without a goal scored, an exceptional feat in this tournament.
Both Simon Briers and Vanguard’s Branden Inge made one great save after the other to keep their nets clean, despite relentless attacking from both sides. Only in the last fifteen minutes, with extra time in sight, did both teams slow down their pace somewhat. But as everyone was waiting for the referee to take the match into extra time, a fast breakaway from Kidder made that unnecessary.
Sporting Mayo is now the first Spruitland team to make it to the final four of an international competition, something not even the players themselves dared to dream about after a mediocre group stage. And Mayo is hardly the biggest surprise of the tournament.
Vtorbetin’s Lofthu Negalia was expected to keep their nation’s tradition high and obligingly lose every match they played, but they have since tasted victory and discovered they quite like it. They will meet home team Sunnyslope FC in the semi final, which should be a tough match. On paper, Sunnyslope shouldn’t have too much trouble moving on to the final, but Lofthu has beaten some fine teams already. The Vtorbetins are obviously on a high, so they may just have the edge.
An even bigger surprise is Rejistania’s umpteenth division amateur team Lemekanil Veran 80'la. LV80’s group stage performance was comparable to Sporting Mayo’s – mediocre at best – but much to everyone’s surprise (including their own), they’ve beaten top teams from Bedistan and Cockbill Street to get to the semi finals, where they’ll face the Spruitlanders from Mayo.
“I think they’re cheating somehow,” Mayo keeper Simon Briers says. “They probably have all sorts of weird gizmos in their hotel. I don’t think we stand a chance against them. Ah well, we got to the semi final in our first international tournament, that isn’t too bad.”

Street Out-Attacked
By Rejistanis
Rejistania are officially a bastion of System Takil! This surprising statement became clear after Lemekanil Veran 80'la, a team from the very lowest divisions, trounced Harewood FC - full of stars from the Streetian and other national teams - by 6-4 in the quarter-final of the Takil Cup.
Despite the official hush-hush, it is clear that Rejistanis are capable of playing attacking football at a very level - certainly much higher than the Streetians, as both teams fought out an entertaining game. However, Lemekanil seemed to enjoy the occasion much more, had fun out on the pitch, and that was the decider - along with Ivan van Oosterom having a terrible day.
However, hopes are high in the Street that Lemekanil will go all the way, as it would make a mockery of the Rejistanis' official policy that "attack is the worst defense".

Slip Up Means Battle For Third
Despite a brave performance by Lofthu Negalia, the sheer class of Fmjphoenix's Sunnyslope FC meant they went down 9-4. Whilst having not made the final, the team still has one game to go: the third place play-off against Sporting Mayo from Spruitland. Mayo drew with fellow Vtorbetin team Vermiert Jaskolja earlier in the tournament, and Lofthu coach Joshua Hickson is going into the game with cautious optimiism.
"There's no doubt that we're the surprise team of the tournament. We're unranked and we made it into the final four of a cup tournament, and I think for that feat alone we deserve not to go home from this empty-handed. It would be criminal to think that our lowly little team could get this far only to be turned away at the eleventh hour. We need to go out there tonight and play like we've never played before. Obviously we've watched tapes of the Mayo-Vermiert game, so we know their strengths and weaknesses, which we'll aim to exploit during the ninety minutes. Frankly, if we don't win today, I'll be hugely disappointed, not just for me, but for the whole team, as they've done some amazing things over the past few weeks here. We've proved time and time again that we're not just a flash in the pan, and victory tonight would cap off what is, for me, a highly successful international outing. Anything less would be a travesty and an injustice."
Lofthu Negalia will have the support of the whole of Vtorbetin tonight, as well as the entire region of Lancre. The match will be shown live on VTV, and the match between Sunnyslope FC and the inpronouncable Rejistanian side will be shown straight afterwards. Vtorbetites will be staying up all night for this footballing feast. Let's hope it's worth it for our boys.

Almost, but not quite
Lemekanil Veran 80'la (Rejistania) - Sporting Mayo: 4 – 4 (AET), 8 – 7 pen.
Well, you can’t get much closer than that. After a gruesome, 120 minute long battle, the Rejistani 11th Division amateurs and the Spruitland First Division champions held each other in perfect balance.
At least when you considered the score line. On the playing field, the Rejistanis had been by far the more attacking team, trying to pin down the Spruitlanders on their own half. But this left occasional holes in their defense, and the Mayo strikers were fast and effective on the counter-attack. Four times LV80 took the lead, four times Sporting Mayo managed to score an equalizer.
Even in extra time, when conceding a goal would likely be deadly, the Rejistanis kept up their relentless attacks. The Mayo defense held their own and didn't allow a goal, but neither did they manage to launch a successful counter, so the match went to penalty kicks.
The penalty kick series was as thrilling for the crowd as it was frustrating for the goalkeepers. In an amazing display of efficiency, the first 14 PKs all disappeared into the net. Both Simon Briers and LV80 goalkeeper Minedaja Inavil never even came close to stopping one. It was Mayo left back Asa Noegel who finally sent the ball inches wide of the left post, sending a bunch of Rejistani amateurs to the final of the Takil Cup.
“Thank bloody hell their professional teams have a defending-fetish,” Mayo right winger Samson Trouwel said after the match. “If their amateurs can get this far by attacking, who knows what the big guys could achieve if they weren’t so busy shivering in front of their own goal.”
Sporting Mayo now has one more match to play before they can head back home to Spruitland. In the third place play-off they will meet Vtorbetin’s Lofthu Negalia, who saw themselves thoroughly outclassed by home team Sunnyslope FC in their semi final.
“Losing 4-9 must’ve put a serious dent in their confidence,” Mayo coach Dennis Friskin said. “That may work to our advantage. Then again, our boys used a lot of energy, both physically and mentally, going into extra time. We’ll see, it shoulld be a close battle.”
When asked who he thought would win the final, Friskin didn’t have to think twice.
“Those Rejistanis, no doubt about it. The way they’ve been playing, I think they’d even defeat the World Cup winning Sarzonia national team. Sunnyslope doesn’t stand a chance.”

Joshua Hickson has hit back at comments made by Sporting Mayo coach, Dennis Friskin. Friskin had said that Lofthu's 4-9 defeat to Sunnyslope FC will leave them without confidence and low on morale in the third-place play-off.
"I would think losing a tight game on penalties would be more mortifying than being beaten heavily by a team tipped to do so anyway. We knew Sunnyslope would be a challenge, and I'd prepared the lads for the worst. Frankly, we didn't expect to get this far anyway, so we can't be too disappointed with a top-four finish - I don't think anybody would begrudge a top-four finish. We've already forgotten the semi-final, and are looking forward to what will surely be a great third-place playoff."
Vtorbetites will be partaking in an all night vigil, as first the third-place playoff, then the final will be shown live on VTV. People are stocking up on supplies of candles, biscuits and crowbars in preparation.
"You can't be too careful these days - burglars will take any opportunity to break in, and robberies during international football matches have gone through the roof since the start of this tournament."
And so, with the game a matter of hours away, we wish our lads the best as they aim to get Vtorbetin it's first piece of silverware...even if it is made of bronze. Well, it's better than nothing, isn't it?

From the Takatara (a rejistanian youth magazine):
Reasons why LV80 should win the tournament:
They have 2 players named Takil.
The coach has the name Takil Salan
It would lower the level of alcohol consumption in Rejistania and maybe abroad
It would entice professional team to improve
Rejistania can prove that Takil requires no class
It would bug anyone
Reasons why LV80 must not win the tournament:
A rejistanian team winning an offensive competition?
Sunnyslope has home advantage
Sunnyslope has professional players
Sunnyslopes players are surely sober
Lemekanil Veran 80'la is an amateur H11SR team and Sunnyslope a H1fmjphoenix team

Bronze for Mayo!
Lofthu Negalia (Vtorbetin) - Sporting Mayo: 5 – 6
After a tight third place play-off, Sporting Mayo has taken the bronze in the Takil Cup in Fmjphoenix. While the Spruitland First Division champions could already call their first international tournament a huge success, winning tonight’s “consolation prize” was a nice bonus, according to Mayo coach Dennis Friskin.
“No matter the result of this match, we were not gonna go home disappointed. We already did better than we expected in this tournament. But it’s great to have something to show for it. On the field, there’s not a big difference between fourth and third, but one goes home empty handed, and the other takes home a trophy. Granted, it’s just a skimpy little thing, but it’ll look nice in our trophy case nonetheless.”
The match against Lofthu Negalia was an even affair that could have gone either way, but Mayo edged out the boys from Vtortbetin with a last minute winning goal by Danny West. The young Hypocrian international striker has mixed sensational with mediocre performances in this tournament, but his undeniable nose for scoring goals promises great things for the future.
“Yes, that kid’s undoubtedly gonna be a big source of enjoyment for us in the future,” coach Dennis Friskin says. “We haven’t seen his full potential yet, but that is normal, being so new to the club. The automatisms aren’t there yet, but that’s just a matter of time.”
Most of the players are now going back home to Spruitland, but a handful of them is staying in Fmjphoenix to await the start of the Baptism of Fire tournament. Simon Briers, Asa Noegel and Samson Trouwel are in the starting line-up of Spruitland’s national team, with Fabiano Vos and Edmund Kidder a part of the selection as well.
The third place play-off was right winger Samson Trouwel’s last match for Sporting Mayo. Trouwel signed for Druid Premier League team Cranbury United but was allowed to finish the Takil Cup with his old team before moving to Druida.
“I’m glad I got to stay til the end of the tournament,” Trouwel says. “This is a nice way to say goodbye to a team I’ve enjoyed playing for. Time to start a new chapter now.”
“I hope the Baptism of Fire starts soon though. If it gets delayed much longer, I might miss the start of the season in Druida. And that’s not a good way to begin a career with a new team.”

"Better than expected!" commented Iesnii Kamantil after the match. Seeing how high professional clubs lost against the attacking powerhouse Sunnyslope FC, Iesnii could have used the second comparative form, but then, they could have in the entire cup. LV80 attacked as if their life depended on it. When they were behind, they always came back and equalized, even took the lead sometimes. The regular time ended 6:6. During Extra Time, both teams attacked fiercely, but could not capitalize their numerous chances. During Penalty Kicks, it was clear that midnight arrived for cinderella. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that fmjphonician fans dressed as Karelan monks and by this scared the Lemekanilan team.
At the same time, in Sike:
"We can not allow them to return!" said a priest, as angry as the va'karela'ny allow him to become.
"right!" agreed an elderly monk.
High Priest Haxada let them discuss further, until he suddenly interfered. "It would be evil, and the team would remain takilan, if you propose something, be a bit more... effective!"
"effective?" echoed some of the yellow-hooded figures.
"Yes, use effective methods like humiliation. they played against first league teams? Let them play against a rejistanian first league team! They lost 3:0 against Inisidalil halisil before leaving for the Takil cup, they will not win against Kalisimu or Najajara!"
