The Nedalia Lions
Fmjphoenix: 17
Nedalia:14
Nedalia’s very first American Football game took place today, against a number 5 ranked Fmjphoenix team, losing narrowly 17 – 14. Although they did not get the victory, Nedalia manager Jorge Youngston said he was impressed with the way his team played.
“I cannot complain really. We don’t even have a league going on in Nedalia, I had to handpick these players through tryouts. This is the first time they ever played together, so its not logical to ask them to go out and win everything. This is a learning experience for us, since this is a young squad. Don’t forget, that Fmjphoenix is the number 5 ranked team in the universe…they’re obviously doing something right. The fact that only a field goal in the final minute separated us is reason for optimism for us.”
Quarterback Ali Khaled threw both touchdowns for the Lions, but also threw 2 interceptions. The inconsistency he showed, however, was expected, considering this the first time he took the kind of hits the way he did. He threw for a total of 263 yards to go with his 2 TDs and 2 INTs.
“It’s a learning experience, man, you know. That’s a very good team we went up against, they gave me some hits I have never felt before. It’s the real deal now. We just got to keep at it, play hard, and we’ll get the win, sooner or later. Its only the first game, we definitely got it in us.”
Other notable performers included 92 yards from running back Uthman Everett, although he did fumble the ball once. The two touchdown passes were thrown to wide receivers Kareem Lahza, who had a total of 62 yards, and Donal Ryan, who totaled 88 yards.

Fmjphoenix 17 - Nedalia 14
With a timely interecption by Dexter Jackson, it set up a 45 yard field goal by Jason Aker to seal victory over Nedalia 17 - 14.
Quarterback Jason Lane threw for 287 yards and 1 touchdown to lead the offense in near perfect action. J.J. Ship ran for 103 yards on 19 carries and had a cruicial blcok on Lane's 54 yard touchdown pass to Anquan Fitzgerald who had 154 yards on 8 receptions.
The other touchdown was scored on the first interception when he picked off Ali Khaled for a 64 yard TD return. Jay Louis also punched out a fumble when tackling Uthman Everett in the third quarter. There will be a more full detailed report later, but it was a solid effort put forth by the Thunder in their first game since NS Bowl IV.

Not Nearly Good Enough - Savian Seahawks Lose First Match
MARSHALLITON - After a gruesome battle with the host nation and one of the most experienced teams in the NS Bowl, the New Savian Seahawks lost to Oliverry 14-3. Head Coach Landon Sevillia of the team said, "It was a bad start, however, it was an expected lose and for use to let them beat us with only two touchdowns against us was okay." The team is last in it's region which also includes Sarzonia, East Lithuania, Tonissia, and Kon-Tiki Island. The team's that the Seahawks have a chance against are Kon-Tiki Island while maybe TOnissia and East Lithuania, althogh it isn't likely.
The Seahawks play against Sarzonia, with the odds in favor of Sarzonia. The game will be played also in Marshalliton while coverage will be shwon on the Kalipso Sports Network, channel 14 in most regions. Diseases beat Nova Mercia- No vaccine for them
The miniture microbes somehow were able to pick up a ball collectively and work as a deadly virus as they infected their way to a 21-10 win over Nova Mercia. Microbe #1 made a brilliant pass to Microbe #16 in the endzone as he made a 0.001 yard run waltzing by the Nova Mercia defence making the score 7-0. Nova Mercia came back to even the score when their quarterback stepped on a majority of the defence killing most of them, so he could was easily into the endzone while the Hockey Canada players lay squirming under a microscope.
A field goal a few minutes later and Nova Mercia were up 10-7 when the diseases struck the players. Their Wide Reciever got the plague and had to leave the game. Their tight ends got tight butts and were forced to leave. The quarterback managed to hold off the smallpox until late in the 4th quarter when he fainted causing a fumble leading to a 21-10 lead for the diseases.
Now 2nd in their group due to Point Differential, the diseases are relaxing in their petri dishes for the next game. Their saving their "deadliest" trick for the finals.

Bryn Shander Sneaks Past Llamas
by Shximmy Dallow
Nargopia played its first tournament match today, and lost to #8 ranked team Bryn Shander 10-3.
"I'm very impressed with our defense," Coach Hannigan told reporters. "They allowed only one touchdown, although we had a breakdown at the goal line which allowed Bryn Shander to score the 2-point conversion."
That touchdown came in the second quarter, putting Bryn Shander up 8-0. The Llama offense fought back in the third, and managed to score a 38-yard field goal. However, a fumbled punt return at their own 2-yard line late in the fourth quarter led to a safety, ending the game 10-3.
"Our defense played strong, but definitely had some weak spots," remarked Hannigan. "Hopefully we can use this as a learning experience. The offense needs to step it up. There's no excuse for 3 interceptions and two fumbles. Believe me, we're going to be practicing this week."
The Llamas need to play stronger football if they want to stay alive in this tournament.

New Savio beats 6th Ranked Sarzonia
MARSHALLITON - After a long, hard game the New Savian Seahawks overcame all odds to beat Sarzonia 10-3 in the NS Bowl V. The first touchdown was scored for New Savio in a long pass from quarterback Manuel Santos to reciever Markus Shenkato, who caught the ball and ran for a total of 23 Yards to the touchdown in the second quarter. The extra point was scored afterwards, while Sarzonia scored a field goal about seven minutes later. Finally, in the fourth quarter, a field goal was scored for the Seahawks. The game ended shortly after, final score 10-3. The game put New Savio, who is currently ranked number 20, at 1-1, tied with Sarzonia, Tonissia, and Oliverry. The next game is against East Lithuania, ranked number nine, who is 2-0 for the Bowl.
Coach Landon Sevillia said in an interview, "I am ecstatic that we came on top against Sarzonia, it definately means we are a team to beat, and hopefully we can come on top or at least come close to beating East Lithuania." The game will be played also in Marshalliton while coverage will be shown on the Kalipso Sports Network, channel 14 in most regions. Lions Defend Well, But Still Fall to 0-2
Despite losing their second game in a row, the Nedalia Lions American Football remain optimistic about what they are accomplishing on the field. The gridiron stars believe that it is only a matter of communication between them that separated the victories from the losses.
“Again, it was only a FG that took us out. In 2 matches, we’ve lost by a total of 6 points, so there really is no need to hit any panic button. This is the first time ever we have participated, and the first time ever we have assembled such a team. Obviously, the offense is a cause for concern, but unlike our other football (soccer) counterparts, our defense has been keeping us in the games. We have a defense that is killing teams, so once our offense finds its rhythm, we’ll be winning them left and right,” commented coach Jorge Youngston.
Unlike the previous game vs. Fmjphoenix, quarterback Ali Khaled threw no TD passes as he failed to find his rhythm the entire game, throwing instead another 2 INTs and only massed a total of 198 yards. All the offense, instead, came from the running back position, with Uthman Everett delivering 21 carries, 87 yards, and a TD. None of the wide receivers got more than 2 receptions, and also none of them eclipsed 50 yards.
With a record of 0-2, including the last loss to Bryn Shander 10 – 7, the Lions now find themselves at the bottom of the table with Nargopia. While their defense has been impressive, they have not won any games, and in the end, it’s the victories that count. They need to find a way to win their next upcoming games if they want a shot at the next round, but if they can find a way to get their offense rolling consistently, watch out.

9th Ranked East Lithuania falls to New Savio
MARSHALLITON - Yesterday the New Savian Seahawks came on top, beating 8th Ranked East Lithuania 10-7 in the 5th installement of the NS Bowl, the most prestigous American Football Tournament in NationStates. In the previous match, New Savio had beat 6th Ranked Sarzonia, so the team came into the game with a lot of confidence and it definately played down. In an interview after the match quarterback Manuel Santos, who scored one touchdown in the game, said "It was really a beautiful sight, we played well and definetely deserved the win." The win puts the team in 4th Place, behind East Lithuania, Oliverry, and Sarzonia. Even though the four teams are tied with a 2-1 record, New Savio has performed worst out of the four in scoring.
With only two games to go, it seems unlikely that New Savio would make the play-offs, however, in the scenario that they beat Kon-Tiki Island and Tonnisia, which is very likely, it would put them at 4-1. If this happened, the only chance they would have to advance would be if two of the teams ahead of New Savio (East Lithuania, Oliverry, and Sarzonia) lose one of their upcoming games and win their other one, or if they just flat out lose both matches. In pubs across New Savio, citizens will be watching the rookie Seahawks, to see if they can come on top in Oliverry at the NS Bowl V.
The next game, against Tonnisia, will be played also in Marshalliton while coverage will be shown on the Kalipso Sports Network, channel 14 in most regions. Please check with your local cable/satelitte/tv provider to check exactly which channel it will be on.

GRIDIRON KARELA?
THREE field goals. Three measly field goals. That was all that we saw in sixty minutes of "action" in Oliverry as Krytenia's national gridiron team managed to scrape into the semi-finals of NS Bowl V, defeating Euroslavia.
In the next round, the Blues will face a rampant Turorian side. Should make for interesting stuff...

Sarzonia advances to first-ever NS Bowl Final
Almost unnoticed by Sarzonian media in the wake of the Sarzonian football team's World Cup exploits, the gridball team is enjoying great success in Oliverry, defeating Bryn Shander 24-6 in the semifinals of NS Bowl V to advance to the championship game against Turori.
Running back Cody Clark, installed in the lineup after a spate of injuries to the team's top backs, rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Ryan Barrett threw a 82 yard scoring strike to tight end Ollie Taylor. The team dominated time of possession by a nearly two to one margin.
"We were able to establish our ground game," Coach Harry Linford said. "When you're getting five yards a pop, you can get a lot done. "[Bryn Shander] was standing around [between plays] with their hands on their hips just after the second half kickoff. You've got to love domination like that if you're a gridball fan."
Regardless of the team's result in the final against a team they've never beaten from Turori, the players say they hope their surprising success in the NS Bowl will be a boon for the sport in Sarzonia, citing the citizen's roots in the old United States of America.
"Old NFL games are still popular on the tele," Linford said. "We just have to translate that into success at the gate."
