The Than System federal government, which recently emerged from centuries of isolationism and civil war, released a joint plan with the Socialist Republic of Mirfak today in which the beleaguered star system would become a sovereign, independent protectorate of its more integrated cousin. The plan, which has been approved by the executives of both nations, is expected to easily pass through their legislatures.

Alphin Horatio Reanix of Mirfak has expressed strong support for a strengthened bond between what are being called the former Xanthalian territories, a group of systems including Mirfak, Than, and Trasnia. These three systems are the only known remnants of the expansive Xanthalian empire built over the course of the first half of the millenium.

Officials from the Trasnian star system have hinted that they would join a new Xanthalian nation. Whether Mirfak and Than are interested in such a proposition, neither nation will officially comment.

The Seven Systems regional government, ruling in the name of The Great Ineffable Bob while he resides on Earth, has made no comment on these happenings.
However, Ineffable Intelligence, Galactic Occurences Division, follows the happenings closely.
