Kriegorgrad
22-05-2005, 21:50
A drab olive military truck, canvas up, is seen rumbling down a lonely gravel strewn road towards a forest, the gentle slopes of the Kriegos countryside are seen, desolate and seemingly endless, the monotonous sight changes to the border of a forest. A dark grey sky is the backdrop for the tall, intimidating trees. The crunch of gravel announces the truck coming to a halt, the engine’s deep noise splutters and dies. The noises that accompany soldiers making ready emanates from the truck.
”Alright lads, get ready to move, I think it’s just another mad ‘ead on the loose, although command wasn’t all that specific.”
Presenting…
Soldiers dismount from the truck, Enfields hanging by the leather straps about the shoulders of the men, the sergeant holds his Sten gun about his haunches, reflecting the relaxed mood of the squad, to further show the content of the squad, the clouds part to allow beams of sunlight to pierce the flawed canopy of the typical Kriegos forest.
”Seems routine, just keep an eye out for the psycho and we should all be off ‘ome before tea.”
A Kriegos RP…
The birds native to the forest twitter away at the soldiers below, bound by a society that forced rules and ideals onto them, a world so different to the birds’ and the other denizen of the forest…
The Proletarian Guardsmen feel a wave of discomfort wash over them. The birds’ chattering is locked into merciless ascent. A chill wind buffets the uneasy squad.
”Sir, why are we out here?”
The sergreant looks at the pale faced soldier.
”An extremely bloody murder, a murder in which a whole family was torn to shreds by what seemed a madman…”
Blood
The crescendo of bird chatter reached a new high, peaking and then, as if the birds had suddenly turned mute, abruptly ended. The forest seems to be swallowed up by a vacuum, no sound enters or escapes save the slow breathing of the soldiers and the billowing of the wind. The clouds consume the comforting rays of sun, the cheerful light giving way to the ominous darkness proffered by the oppressive clouds.
One of the soldiers backed against a tree, the comfort of having something to cover his rear gave him comfort. The birds watched from all over the forest, sensing the fear present in the soldiers below, frightened of what, the soldiers didn’t know, the natural instinct wasn’t dampened by the unceasing stares of the silent birds.
The sergeant blinked and noted the soldier next to the tree, or more aptly, the lack of. Sergeant barked and the rest of the squad looked round in a panic, one by one, noting the absence of their comrade. A scream pierced the forest and a spurt of blood provoked chatters of approval from the perched birds. Enfields clutched to chests, the troopers craned their necks skyward to see the missing soldier’s rifle fall to the ground. Naturally, their eyes followed the rifle’s descent and failed to notice the bloodied carcass that landed moments after.
What was once the soldier now had his mouth gaping open, his blood covered features twisted into a countenance of pain. The sergeant’s eyes followed down to the soldiers open rib cage, heart and other vitals torn open and apart in a primal display of dominance. The birds mocking twitter beat at the fragile mentality of the squad. Everyone had everyone else in his line of sight, except for one, whose presence wasn’t noticed.
A cadaver came flying down, spine half absent from the man’s back. The vital piece of the anatomy was flailing about like some individual appendage in throes of agony. The corpse landed with a thud, a spurt of incarnadine fluid reminded any one who dared fail to notice its presence. Another sound of air parting for a rapidly ascending soldier sent the squad into a full rout, whatever semblance of organisation disappeared as the squad broke into a run for the truck.
The sergeant was close behind his squad as his god given instincts kicked in, adrenaline propelled him fast than ever before in his life. But it was to no avail, a powerful hand yanked him upwards by the small of his back, his screams went unheeded as his men fled. Before he knew what happened, he was roughly fifty feet in the air. His adversary was perched on a branch, a safe place to toy with its prey. The heavy breathing of his un-natural foe gave way to an intense pain as his abdomen was torn open by hands not crafted by nature. The probing hands grasped the lower section of his spine, and yanked ever so slightly. The Sergeant would have screamed if the excruciation allowed so. He felt his neck get tugged down an iota, while the distance travelled was miniscule; the pain inflicted was worth a million times the space moved.
Paralysis spread through his person instantaneously. The hands probed further, one found a hold on his diaphragm and clenched; the air was forced out of the poor man with a harsh gasp. The hands went around his body quickly but it felt an eternity to the entrapped soldier. Finally, when the cold tendrils of death began to seep into the sergeant’s consciousness, the hands burst through his stomach, slowly tearing open a gateway into the forest.
The beast grew tired of the sergeant and tossed him aside as a spoilt child would a ragdoll it grew bored of. As the sergeant fell to the cold soil below, he saw that his men had only made it about thirty metres away from their previous position, he also noticed the vaguely humanoid form had already closed the gap between his poor soldiers and itself with great speed and dexterity and it moved from tree to tree with preternatural agility.
Then the sergeant saw only blood.
