OZELLA- There were parades and celebration in the streets in the Rittian capital of Ozella today as the nation officially declared independence from the Sultanate of Inshallah. The Rittian Revolution has been long and largely bloodless, but its roots are far less peaceful. Some time ago (OOC: about 2 years real world time), the nation of Atlantieopia was ruled by a brutal Nazi dictator who had initiated widespread genocide programs against Jews and other ethnic and social groups he deemed "undesirable". When word of these horrors emerged from behind Atlantieopia's cloak of secrecy, the Sultanate of Inshallah and several other nations invaded and won a brief conflict against Nazi loyalists. An assessment of the population quickly determined that residual Nazi sympathies were simply too widespread among the Atlantieopian populace to immediately restore independence. The territories of Atlantieopia were divided among the victorious states.
After a decades-long "cooling off" period, the Sultan of Inshallah decided to allow the Inshallid Atlantieopians to decide for themselves if they wanted to be independent from their conqueror. An internationally monitored plebiscite was held, and the people of Inshallid Atlantieopia concluded that they wished to remain Inshallid. The vote was repeated for the next three decades, with the same results. Over its eighty year occupation, the territory known as Inshallid Atlantieopia grew to encompass nearly all formerly Atlantieopian lands.
Even before the Atlantieopian Dictatorship was established, numerous citizens of Atlantieopia's coastal regions had expressed doubts about the central government's right to rule their area: it had historically been independant both governmentally and culturally from Atlantieopia until the War of Rittian Succession (1898-1899), in which the landlocked monarchy of Atlantieopia invaded and occupied the Kingdom of Rittia in a bid to establish one of its citizens to the Rittian throne and thus gain access to seaports. The Atlantieopian King of Rittia, Charles IV, immediately declared war on Atlantieopia and "challenged" Atlantieopia to invade. Atlantieopian troops were dispatched and met with no resistance. Charles IV returned to his homeland and was rewarded with numerous decorations for his services to Atlantieopiea. Rittia was now legally a part of Atlantieopia. Rittian culture persisted, however, and a nationalist movement worked to end Atlantieopian rule of their homeland. Rittian nationalists were jailed and executed in large numbers during Nazi rule of Atlantieopia as "foreign traitors", and the absurdity of this charge persists to this day. Rittian fighters also assisted in the deposition of the Nazis, and requested immediate independance from Occupied Atlantieopia. However, their calls fell on deaf ears.
In recent years, the Rittian Nationalist Party (RNP) has risen as a political power in Inshallid Atlantieopia. RNP officials controlled 35% of local government and thus held 3 seats in Inshallah's Parliament. As many Atlantieopians became assimilated into Inshallid culture, they began a gradual exodus to the Inshallid mainland, until at present nearly 90% of all residents of the former Dictatorship of Atlantieopia are ethnically Rittian. This overwhelming shift in demographics resulted in a victory for the RNP and other independence groups when the latest plebiscite determined that Inshallid Atlantieopia desired to be free. The Sultan of Inshallah was more than happy to be rid of this territory, as it had become a massive financial burden on his debt-ridden government.
The peoples of Rittia and Inshallah cooperated to ensure the transition to independent government would be smooth. The RNP's leadership structure was reorganized into the Rittian Pre-Independent Governance System (RPIGS). The RPIGS worked for nearly two years until it announced Rittia to be ready for independence. Today, May 14, is the day on which the independence of Rittia is made official. The last Inshallid government workers left on a special charter flight at 12:01am from Ozella International Airport, just one minute after independence. The newly established Rittian Federal Army fired artillery flares into the air from its bases, and millions of citizens danced and lit fireworks all night and into the morning.

I ran Inshallah for probably a year and a half, and it was an early member of the (also now defunct) Alliance of Hell Angels, the constitution of which was written almost exclusively by me, and I served on the AHA Council for almost the duration of its operation and helped it through numerous troubles, foreign and domestic. As the new proprietor of Rittia, I will gladly perform similar duties for a new alliance.)

Climate: Often foggy and cool. Summer temperatures rarely top 85 F, and winter temperatures are usually above 20 F.
Government Style: Currently somewhat conservative as a result of being part of Inshallah. In the future it will become moderately liberal with latent conservativism.
President: Alana Drovin (former head of RNP and RPIGS, will serve four-year term until the next election)
Legislature: 100 seat Council, located in Ozella. 95 of its members are former RNP members, and 70 of them were officials in RPIGS. They will serve four-year terms until the next election. No political parties have been established since the RNP declared its duties over and officially ceased to exist at 8:00am May 14. However, the current balance in the Council is roughly 70 conservative Councilors and 30 liberal. Of these, roughly five of the conservatives are radical (the 5 non-RNP members) and are likely to not cooperate with the main government, and roughly 15 of the conservatives and 10 of the liberals are so moderate that they will not likely join a party when these arise.
