The CISR Bans Gay Marriage

June 3rd, 2025 - Haaregrad City, North Haaregradia, CISR

Mikhail Trotskii today signed into law a bill that will see the end of government issuing of marriage licences. This will affect all couples, same-sex or mixed-sex. This will have no impact on people who are currently married.

Replacing marriage licences will be a certificate of cohabitation, which can be granted to any two or more people who request it. The change in documents reflects a growing trend in communal living through-out the CISR. Religious groups have long commented on the decline of the traditional family, and have screamed themselves hoarse for the past three years trying to fight this bill, however after the last Muslim/Christian Democrat Councilor fell asleep standing during a 44 hour filibuster it was all over, the bill went for Trotskii who had promised to pass it.

This legal change will have no bearing on marriages performed in a religious setting, other then couples will still need to apply for the certificate to be legally recognized.

OOC: Your title is a bit misleading. You are ridding CISR of marriage altogether, from the looks of it, gay or straight.

Big Long Now congratulates Soviet Haaregrad on it's choice to end issuing marriage licenses. We ended this practice fifty years ago, and have saved about $390 million dollars per year since there is no need for producing paper for marriage licenses.

I'm also not really banning it, but honesty doesn't get headlines, that's where sensationalism comes in.
