1,284,491 Hockey Canadian Zlins on Bellamy Road ($1,000,000)

Gotta bet on the Canuck horse (grandma won it back in the 60's, liking the odds)

Actually I think it is Disputed Testamony that you are speaking about and she won the Preakness, not the Run for the Roses. And while his sire has Northern Dancer, Secretariat and Bold Ruler in his blood line, his dam has only Count Fleet several generations back.

I don't think she carries the large heart gene to pass on to him, and while the colt showed early great speed such as he did at the Wood Memorial, (17 lenghts! )you also have to take into account what he did at the Breeders Futurity, where he stopped cold after 3/4 of a mile.

He is also under a trainer that as several entries in the derby - his attention may be split too many ways...

The question is of course can Bellamy Road be able to not go crazy with the early pressure that will applied to him by Spanish Chestnut and High Limit and I don't think he can.

A horse like High Fly that can do so many different things has a much better chance at winning the derby

I'm more impressed with Hig Fly's pedigree than I am with Bellamy Road's - he most likely has gotten the large heart gene from his dam, a granddaughter of Seattle Slew...and his sires side looks every bit as good as Bellemy Road.

How ever his wins are not as impressive as Bellemy Road and his dosage is not as high - that makes me think that those who are regular watchers know something we don't.

again Nick Zito as trainer - too much division of attention I think. but he is one awesome trainer.

It was a lovely run, and very much unexpected. Bellamy Road died out just about where I predicted he would.

Please understand, I absolutely loathe the racing culture that puts all but babies out there in the equivallent of the Olympics. No three year old should be out there running like that.

I have been a horsewoman all my life, and I know what racing at that age does to a horse. There is a very valid reason that insiders call it the Cripple Crown.

But I can not but thrill when the horses are flying. They are bred to run, they love to run. And we love to watch them.
