Cup of Harmony XIV
Lethislavania/Oglethorpia

Welcome to the Cup of Harmony. Most would call you all the "Best of the Rest". You've failed to qualify for the World Cup play-off, but due to your outstanding sportsmanship and high-quality (or spirited) play, you have been invited to a special tournament. Hopefully you can enjoy this tournament as much is if you had qualified. We will be playing in 4 groups of 4, all of the games taking place in Lethislavania or Oglethorpia. You will have 3 games, whereupon the highest teams in each group will advance to a bracketed playoff formant, culminating in crowning a champion. Good luck, everyone!

[Although RP is optional, it would be suggested. You are in this tournament due to your ability to write; thus, it would be advisable to do so. There may or may not be an RP cap - Do not let this impede your story telling. Also, if you wish, you may also post your roster in this thread along with your acceptance. Most of all, have fun!]

Kylaai lose world cup qualifying

Kylaai were ready for another time in the world cup finals for the second time ever in world cup 22 and all of the players already had the hotels. Kylaai was second place in Region 11 and only 2 bad games they lost. When it was the game with Kylaai and Slaikau it only needed a win for Kylaai and it would be the world cup finals again. After Kylaai lost the game against Slaikau it was needed to win the rest of the games or else Kylaai might lose. When Kylaai played Bestiville Vlanti Vimorta played very good and he scored one goal very quickly. When Vlanti Vimorta scored the goal it gave confidence to Kylaai who were also happy that Slaikau was losing. If Slaikau won Kylaai would be in bad. Kylaai still had confidence against Bestiville and Tennence Fleiam scored for the first time. Everyone was happy for Tennence Fleiam who does not score very much. Kylaai won Bestiville and was in second place.

Only one more game Kylaai had to win and the world cup final they would be in. Gaian Ascendancy won the game at the same time and Slaikau did not win. Kylaai could have won but they played team number 1 Vilita and lost 2-1. When Kylaai lost, Gaian Ascendancy became second place and Kylaai lost. Kylaai hope to play in Cup of Harmony Invitational XIV instead of the world cup final 22 now. Kylaai won twice the Cup of Harmony and no team has done this more.

Well, we've got a busy schedule, what with the resumption of the Bettian First Division and the upcoming AOCAF, but what they hey, count us in. We finished third in a tough group and we'd love to give this a go if the hosts will have us.

Manager:
Munir At-Tariq - age 53.
Took over as caretaker manager following Ian Atkins' sacking after the Baptism of Fire Cup controversy.

Squad:
Goalkeepers:

1. Amir Bettison - Gabalfa Rovers, age 32, 45 caps.
One of the few to have played for the team since the nation's formation. Considered by many pundits to be something of a talisman. Is currently nursing broken ribs that may keep him out of action for some time.

2. Ricardo DiTorino - Endunn Town, age 19, 11 caps.
A bright prospect renowned for his cat-like agility, DiTorino has made a name for himself since making his team debut at the age of 15.

3. Robert Sole - Lorshill United, age 22, 0 caps.
An ever-present in Lorshill's cup winning team of 2001 but has yet to make his international debut. His 6'4" frame allows him to easily deal with high crosses and set pieces.

Defence:

4. Michael Ryder - Gabalfa City, age 27, 28 caps.
A tough tackler, Ryder has played for the national team since the beginning, but has recently been hampered by a recurring knee injury.

5. Musa Williams - Gabalfa Rovers, age 27, 29 caps.
Has made the left-back position his own since deputising for the injured Michael Ryder. Captain of the 2004 champions and current league leaders Gabalfa Rovers.

6. Wasim Morgan - Ceffinton Town, age 23, 16 caps.
A versatile utility man who can play on the right or left of defence.

7. Geraint Carew - AFC Rendrew, age 26, 36 caps.
A speedy right-sided defender noted for his ability to set up swift counter-attacks. Can also play on the right wing.

8. Said Ismail - Butetown Dragons, age 34, 36 caps.
Vastly experienced defender who has recently returned to his hometown club after plying his trade abroad.

9. Marty Rahl - AFC Rendrew, age 28, 16 caps.
A tenacious player with undoubted defensive capabilities, but whose temperament has occasionally been called into question.

10. Jonathon McKinnon - Ceffinton Town, age 20, 8 caps.
Former captain of the Bettia Under-21 squad, his performances have started to see him come into the reckoning for a regular place in the international squad. A bright prospect for the future.

11. Amir Bin Da'ud - Gabalfa Rovers, age 28, 29 caps.
A solid, dependable defender famed for his long throw-ins. His speed however sometimes lets him down.

12. Gareth Coates (captain) - Grappenhall United, age 25, 25 caps, 1 goal.
A towering physical presence in the centre of defence, his height comes in handy in attacking set-pieces as well as defensive. Has recently been named captain after Amir Bettison's injury.

Midfield:

13. John Connick - Aust Rangers, age 29, 31 caps.
Has come into his own as the playmaker of the team, his natural position is deep in central midfield from which he sets up his forwards.

14. Roman Pullman - Roath Albion, age 28, 14 caps.
An unspectacular but solid, influential figure in the centre of midfield. Probably would have won more caps than he already has if it wasn't for his infamous bust-up with the manager at his former club resulting in a one-year suspension.

15. Aaron Brown - Whitchurch United, age 22, 25 caps, 2 goals.
A quick little player who has proven to be adept at floating in long crosses from the right-hand side.

16. Jason Abdullah - Butetown Dragons, age 19, 11 caps.
Very pacy young left-sided midfielder known for his hot-headed disposition.

17. Omar Whistler - Maindy Wanderers, age 24, 26 caps, 11 goals.
A stylish midfielder known for his efficient style and deft touches. He is also proving to be a cool-headed penalty-taker, something which the Bettian national team has been sorely lacking.

18. Evan Brooks - Gabalfa Rovers, age 27, 43 caps, 13 goals.
The 'Golden Boy' of Bettian football, Brooks is well-known for his prowess from set-pieces and stinging long-range shots.

19. Ieaun Swain - Grappenhall United, age 22, 6 caps, 2 goals.
Self-styled 'country boy' who has recently emerged into the Bettian top flight after leaving his local Fourth Division team.

Forwards:

20. Stuart Abdul-Rahim - Gabalfa Rovers, age 33, 49 caps, 34 goals.
Bettia's long-time target-man and record goalscorer (but only just). An unrivalled poacher in the Bettian First Division.

21. Chris Hutton - Whitchurch United, age 18, 14 caps, 3 goals.
A precocious young talent who has burst onto the domestic scene. Famed (or feared) for his tenacious hassling of opposition defenders.

22. Bobbie Rosenstiehl - Downton, age 23, 9 caps, 4 goals.
A somewhat controversial selection for the national squad, he only qualified because his maternal grandmother was born one mile inside Bettia's borders. He soon silenced his right-wing critics by scoring a brace on his debut in last month's friendly against Unklestan.

23. John Harding - Endunn Town, age 28, 20 caps, 15 goals.
A lanky centre-forward whose early career has been hampered by injuries, but has recently seen his prospects improve after gaining promotion with Endunn. A deadly header of the ball.

24. Gethin Ward - Gabalfa Rovers, age 29, 21 caps, 14 goals.
Forms the feared strike partnership with Stuart Abdul-Rahim which has performed so well both club and country. However, he has recently experienced a dip in form which has seen him lose his first team place in the national squad.

25. Judson York - AFC Rendrew, age 25, 10 caps, 14 goals
The first black player to pull on the green-and-yellow shirt. His lightning-quick pace is virtually unmatched in the Bettian league. Is equally at home in the centre or on either side of the pitch.

LIAMIST STATES MARMADUKES
Cast & Crew

Coach: Jamus Spring
A normally reserved man, Jamus Spring has rarely been seen by the media at his matches, let alone in public. His speech at the BoF presentation was a perfect example. Spring said "Thanks" and quickly walked off. He is noted for intolerance of bad sportsmanship while using thuggish players to intimidate opposition. Using a 4-3-3 formation, Coach Spring rarely makes substitutions. If you want a place in the Marmadukes, you had better be able to play full-on in your role for ninety minutes.

Media Contact: Illario Forster
Forster is the man who presides over each of the Marmadukes press conferences, usually the only thing preventing Hal Bell and Mi Rainford Jr from killing each other, and secretly co-ordinates the psychological gaming that the Liamist States became notorious for in the BoF. Gaian Ascendancy, who the Marmadukes share a group with, were the first targets of such attacks, each player waking up with one hand in a bowl of water and a very wet patch on their sheets. He manipulates Mi Rainford Jr’s contacts for his own use, sparking off the terrible rivalry between the Marmadukes and Chicanada Kodiaks, which, due to a mass depression from losing, has since been resolved. After causing the Marmadukes to show up late for their first game, resulting in the Marmadukes biggest ever loss, and refusing to take responsibility, Forster is an important, albeit unpopular, component of the team.

The Marmadukes (*starting line-up)
Goalkeepers
01. Mi Rainford Jr (City de Liam)*
One half of the Bell-Rainford rivalry, Rainford is a surly, bitter and often sarcastic character. He feels he is unappreciated on a side who worships their forward line, with little regard for the fact that Rainford conceded only a handful of goals, most of which were penalties. He is the son of Commander Mi Rainford, head of the Liamist States Military Forces and his favourite film, as a result, is Team America.
02. Carl Cashmore (Marmadukes FC)

Backs
Collectively, the backline is fairly no name, rarely making press conference appearances but their strength, fitness and commitment are responsible for the Marmadukes BoF win. They are frequently relied on but rarely break in their staggered formation. They usually follow from Mi Rainford Jr’s lead.
05. Hugh Killick (CDL United)*
03. Thomas McQuary (Alexandra)*
07. Arthur Claridge (Canterbury)*
16. Michael Knight (Liamistan FC)*
15. Dane Abatiell (Sheffield)
23. Drew Vallis (Sheffield)
11. Brant Musetti (Fairbank Vice)

Midfielders
17. Jackson Eaks (Alexandra)*
A popular hit with the ladies, especially the babe reporter, and fiancee, Neva Jardin, Jackson Eaks is a young Marmaduke at just twenty-four years of age. As such, he is a sensitive young man, yet to come to terms with the fame and pressure of international soccer, crying when it seems like too much (halftime against Naglegrad, for instance). However, Eaks is a talent to watch for, especially with his deadly corner kicking skills and ability to combine with Rod Manoni and Troy Champion to create opportunities out of nothing.
09. Rod Manoni (C, Mayfair)*
The captain and midfield leader, Manoni is an uberexperienced player, leading domestic champions and Liamist Club Cup winners, Mayfair, to their double victories, thrice in four years. He is now the oldest on the team at thirty-one years of age. Known as the Master of the Boot at home, he can take any free kick from the edge of the penalty box and turn it into a goal.
12. Troy Champion (Trenportsmouth)*
A late call up last WC, Champion has since worked himself in as an integral part of the squad, even if it does mean a tactical reshuffle from 5-2-3 to 4-3-3. Champion, somewhat of a mystery, does not attend press conferences when they are held, leaving him the odd one out on the midfield. He is a quality player, and when he settles into his international role, will be quite a handful for the opposition.
30. Edward Lautscham (Fairbank Vice)
04. Marshall Ash (LS Town)
21. Kahumanu Hart (Mayfair)

Forwards
13. Armand Iziary (Canterbury)*
A flamboyant forward, Iziary first made an impression by scoring a hattrick on his, and the team’s, international debut. He is an athletic striker and very passionate about his game. He, like Christian Dressel, defers to Hal Bell when making striking decisions, although he leads Hal Bell in the all-time top scorers list.
24. Hal Bell (CDL United)*
Hal Bell is considered by fans, his team and the media alike to be the MAN. He was highest scorer last season for his side and many tipped CDL United to take the Liamist Club Cup four years ago, until they were stopped in the semis by local arch rivals, City de Liam, when Bell choked, a psychological problem he faces until this day, haunting him. He and Mi Rainford Jr have not got a good relationship. They were friends up until that semi-final when Bell met Necia Rainford and began an illicit love affair, resulting divorce and the most vile football rivalry ever seen in the Liamist States Empire.
08. Christian Dressel (Gradburg North)*
Scoring two goals in the BoF final, Dressel is somewhat of a surprise package from that tournament. After Marlin Smoots failed to shine, he was given the go ahead and scored in his first match. The quietest of the forward pack, Dressel has proven himself a decent forward and many look to him to replace Bell when he retires (may that day never come) as the forward pack leader.
19. Yoichi Kajahara (Marmadukes FC)
28. Fraser Pushkin (East Trenport)

05. Hugh Killick (CDL Uni) *
03. Thomas McQuary (Alexandra) *
07. Arthur Claridge (Cantorbéry) *
16. Chevalier De Michael (Liamistan FC) *
15. Danois Abatiell (Sheffield)
23. Drew Vallis (Sheffield)
11. Brant Musetti (Vice De Fairbank)

Midfielders
17. Jackson Eaks (Alexandra) *

19. Yoichi Kajahara (Marmadukes FC)
28. Fraser Pushkin (Trenport Est)

Bluebirds come for their second Cup of Harmony

Oglethorpia to participate in first Cup of Harmony

Megalopolis City (BT) -- With a reemergence of the Oglethorpian squad in World Cup 22 came a fall from grace; putting the squad at its present position, poised to take place in the 14th Cup of Harmony.

"But wait! There's more!" exclaimed OAF President Joe Staplin. "It's the best of the worst, and i'm sure in some way we'll convey that."

For the tournament Oglethorpia will field the same squad (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8690275&postcount=37) that played in World Cup 22, with the van Mistletoe brothers playing midfield this time around.

While a sign of Oglethorpia's new position in the footballing world, Staplin's optimistic view is as omnipotent as ever; for him, it's an opportunity that serves as the testing grounds for Oglethorpia's hopeful real effort in World Cup 23.

"Don't be surprised if you see half foreign players on the squad. We're desperate at this point," stated Staplin.

On the other hand, Torrence Black isn't discouraged by the Cup of Harmony experience.

"We're takin' this thing home!" he shouted emphatically. "Well, in the event we aren't beaten or drawn against in such a manner as to take us out of the running. But that won't, because we're takin' this thing home!"

We only Need One Number for Todays Scores... Nil
Karela Bloody Rules as Everyone Draws In Bluebirds' Group

Nova Britannicus' first Cup of Harmony match in sixteen years, something so far back only AOCAF players Royal Seaford, Darryl Lamphear and Henry Tuckworth can remember, and what do they go and do? That's right, draw Nil-Nil. Typical.

Baring in mind that last time in the Cup of Harmony for World Cup 18, the Bluebirds played Krytenia, Maserrat and hosts Cockbill Street, winning only the Maserrat game, a draw straight off the bat looks acceptable for Nova Britannicus.

Consider also that the Baptism of Fire 'champions' Bettia, and Two-Time Winners Kylaai (there's an oxymoron if ever we heard one) are in this group with Nova Britannicus, making the Bluebirds' task of winning the Cup that much more difficult. Not that the people in the City-States of Nova Britannicus are expecting to win, of course, but 25th in the World can't be that large a barrier to winning this Harmonious Cuppy-shaped thing.

Vikings unprepared for start of matches, played abysmal against the Abysmalistan team

More bad things keep happening to the young Fmjphoenix Vikings. They were unprepared for the Cup of Harmony's start, and thus played quite abysmaly against Abysmalistan, losing 3-2 in the opener.

Nolan and Berry managed to salvage a little from the match with goals late in the match, but the Abysmals were already up 3-0 before the Vikings even managed to score. The Vikings do not even have a clue as to who they will play next, nor their rank in the group or tournament.

"I was disappointed with how this started, as were were vastly unprepared. Even though its tough to lose to a team we should be able to beat, thats how this entire cup has been for us. Even though we do not even know who were are going to come out against, we will now be ready to play and do what is expected, win." Coach Disterfred said disappointingly after the match.

3 Simple letters from Hockey Canada: WTF?

Following the 3-0 loss to Haperd, the defensive Hockey Canadians had one of their worst losses in team history. Kyle Thomas faced a barrage of shots as Haperd got a quick 2-0 win just 10 minutes in. The first goal scored when a Haperd striker broke behind the Canuck's defense and scored a quick shot to the right of Thomas. Rahul Kulkarni nearly evened the game in the 6th minute when he broke in but fired the ball just a few feet over the Haperd goal.

In the 10th minute, another Haperd goal was scored on a free kick. Hockey Canadian defenders misunderstood each other and the confusion lead to a hole in the wall for a Haperd striker to score. Attempts to score from the Hockey Canadians were obselete as they couldn't even get the ball out of their half forcing Thomas to make save after save.

Halftime didn't prove much better, as Kyle Thomas was pulled from the net for the first time in Hockey Canadian history to make way for Steve Tavares. Not making much of a difference, Tavares was scored on with his first shot in international play; a lob shot 46 minutes into the game. Shot after shot lead to some good saves by Tavares, but the game ended 3-0 for Haperd.

The loss put them at the bottom of Group 2. Hoping to rebound from their early loss, the Canucks will play Abysmalistan, a team they know nothing about. They'll be looking for a Fmjphoenix team to take their revenge on for eliminating them from the finals in the U21WC15. It may not he their U21 team, but it's still a Viking team.

Scouting report from Hockey Canada released.

The following was a report on the teams Hockey Canada have/will play(ed) in the Cup of Harmony.

Haperd: Well, we screwed up against these guys once, trying to make it 0-2 against them won't boost morale. The 3-0 loss only gave Hockey Canada fuel for their next games, and if we play them again, we'll hand them back their goals with a few of our own.

Blurb: They won early, but as we know, early wins don't always win you the cup.

Abysmalistan: They must have done something right if they beat Fmjphoenix 3-2 earlier today. They'll play a pressing game on our defence but we'll just beat them out in the long-run. They're defence must be damn good to hold the Vikings to only 2 goals.

Blurb: Abysmal showings by other teams could let them waltz right on into the finals.

Fmjphoenix: Following the aftermath of U21WC15, all Vikings and Viking-related things in Hockey Canada were banned for good. A rusty start won't daunt them, they were just getting warmed up for the following games. If there's a team that will be the dark horse in the Cup, it'll be them.

Blurb: The Vikings will raid the net nonstop, but Canucks can defend themselves pretty damn good.

Third Times The Charm!
Kodiaks finally beat Nonesuch Street

Amid rumors that Star Player Loemi is heading out to Cockbill Street, the Kodiaks made sure they finally snatched a win over the smaller Street.

A 1-0 victory is excalty what Coach Jesnui Viladetta sought in a very loaded Group 3 and could help the Kodiaks advance to the Second Round of the Cup of Harmony...if their matches against Kazakhstania and Lethislavania can break their way. Viladetta played down the hopes of the Kodiaks, as the team was considered the second fave last CoH before routs by Hapered and Melmond ended those dreams.

But recent success by the u21 squad always makes those Kodiaks dream for success.

Bettia Kick Off With Bore-Draw

Kylaai 0
Bettia 0

The Aroras started their Cup of Harmony campaign in nervy style by grinding out a goalless draw against Group 1 rivals Kylaai.

Much of the opening half-hour was marked by both teams feeling each other out (but not in a pervy sense), with head tennis being the order of the day for short spells. As the half went on, both teams settled down and the game opened up.

The first real chance fell to Bettia after 32 minutes, when a chipped ball over the head of Vito Frito found Abdul-Rahim in space. Unfortunately for the Bettian faithful, he hooked his shot well wide of the upright when perhaps he should have squared the ball to Bobby Rosenstiehl who was lurking in the penalty area in a little too much space for the Kylaai manager's liking. Their reply was almost immediate, as Vlanti Vimorta met a Norada-Fell cross only to head the ball straight into DiTorino's arms.

The final chance of the opening 45 minutes was fashioned by Geraint Carew, who looks set to sign for Cockbill Street's league champions Vimesbairn Athletic. Kylaai's Rising Sun lost out to a crunching tackle from Carew, who then broke down the left wing and exhanged a one-two with Omar Whistler. A short pass to Connick in the center resulted in him being crudely brought down by Tirar, earning the defender a yellow card. Evan Brooks stepped up to take a dipping free-kick which grazed the crossbar.

Much of the second half was spent with both teams engaged in a midfield battle, with Kylaai having the better of the play as the half wore on. Caretaker manager Munir At-Tariq brought on Aaron Brown for the ineffective Amir Bin Da'ud and Judson York for Stuart Abdul-Rahim to try and inject a bit of pace into Bettia's attacking play, to limited effect.

As has so often happened in these situations, Carew immediately linked up with Brown on the left flank, helping to create a chance for York that was well-saved by the Kylaai keeper. At the other end, Kazu was denied in the 77th minute by a last-ditch Coates tackle as he rounded the Bettian goalkeeper.

After the game, At-Tariq was less than happy with the performance. "I'm less than happy with the performance," he told waiting journalists. "We've had a pretty torrid time recently, what with the BofF palaver and some poor performances in the AOCAF tournament, although we were against some very tough competition ther. We've just got to pick ourselves up from this and create some more goalscoring chances."

Lions Provide Entertaining Match, Draw With Euroslavia

With the Nedalia Lions simultaneously playing in the AOCAF VIII as well as the Cup of Harmony, it was expected the team would come off a bit sluggish. The Lions, however, more than held their own, bringing an attacking style of football, with some brilliant personal runs from the players, that could’ve, and really should’ve, resulted in than the one goal they scored.

Both goals came in the 2nd half after an entertaining but goal-free first half. The Lions struck first, through Shoreland United player Chris Yamtech, in the 55th minute, but by the 70th minute, the score was even again. Euroslavia were able to handle the Nedalian pressure and counter with a goal of their own, making the score 1-1 all the way to the final whistle. Randy Gamman commented after the match:

“I mean, you can see the improvements being made. We went through our learning bumps, and now we seem to be making progress. This is only just the beginning though; I don’t want to see this team fall flat on its face. Oglethorpia and The Weegies also equalized, so with only 2 games to go, we have a very close group on our hands. We have to come out with all guns blazing the next match, hopefully we won’t be too exhausted from our 2nd round AOCAF matchup in Druid against Legalese.”

Hockey Canada's Blurb on CoH

Group 1
Nova Britannicus 1 0 1 0 0-0 1
Kylaai 1 0 1 0 0-0 1
Liamist States 1 0 1 0 0-0 1
Bettia 1 0 1 0 0-0 1

Zeros all around for this group. The donuts suggest either extensive defending, or some of the worst attacking international soccer has ever seen. But no worries here, once the tournement wears on it can guarantee some good play from all nations. Seeing the teams in this group, it will probably come down to a numbers game in the end. Liamist States and Bettia are near the bottom somehow but when all teams tie nil-nil, someone's gotta be there.

Group 2
Haperd 1 1 0 0 3-0 3
Abysmalistan 1 1 0 0 3-2 3
Fmjphoenix 1 0 0 1 2-3 0
Hockey Canada 1 0 0 1 0-3 0

Haperd jumps out with 3 important goals against us and a second win will clinch it for them if the Abysmals lose. The Vikings got off to the slow start with the loss, but they can rebound from it, partially because they've done it before, and partially because they're annoying that way. HC (poor us) sit at the bottom but a few goals could easily get momentum going.

Group 3
Lethislavania 1 1 0 0 3-2 3
Chicanada 1 1 0 0 1-0 3
Kazakhstania 1 0 0 1 2-3 0
Nonesuch Street 1 0 0 1 0-1 0

Kodiaks get only one goal, but only one was needed to send Nonsuch Street back to the ally of Group 3. Leth-Leth-Lethis-Lethislavania (literally took 4 tries to say it right) takes down Kaz 3-2. Kaz might not know it, but they're Lacrosse World Cup champs. They're probably focused of the CoH and they didn't have time to view it. The Street and Kaz can easily rebound from both 1 goal losses.

Group 4
Oglethorpia 1 0 1 0 1-1 1
Euroslavia 1 0 1 0 1-1 1
The Weegies 1 0 1 0 1-1 1
Nedalia 1 0 1 0 1-1 1

1s all around! Played, tied, for, against and points are all number 1, not to mention rank in Group 4. The teams are so very equal I don't really have room to put a quirky comment in because of all the 1s. But I predict Nedalia and Oglethorpia will make it in.

Nil All All?
Screw That For A Result

Both games played in the Liamist States group, both ending in nil all draws. The boring likes of this have not been seen since cricket was officially banned in the Liamist States by the Popular Referendum 432.

More seriously, it’s not that bad a result given the opposition, twenty fifth ranked, Nova Brit-something. Last time the Marmadukes played the Cup of Harmony, they missed out on qualification for the finals on goal difference. Then, we were fifty somethingth in the rankings and the second lowest ranked team. Again, we were now forty seventh, second lowest ranked and have already notched a draw. A second draw against Kylaai and a good kicking of BoF winning predecessors Bettia, should see the Marmadukes in good stead for qualification after coming so close in both the CoH 13 and the WCQ 22. How likely is that? Well, it’s not unimaginable but probably on the unlikely side of the probability scale.

Go Marmadukes!

Disparaissent Marmadukes !

Vikings get plenty of rest and practice in while waiting

With what seems like forever inbetween matches, the Fmjphoenix Vikings hvae been getting much needed rest and relaxation, but also enough practice to keep themselves ready. People in Fmjphoenix have been bored as there are no live football matches going on. Despite it all, the Vikings have been happy.

"This has been a good waiting period for us. We have been able to practice and rest quite a bit. I think we will be very ready for the next match. I just hope its soon because I am anxious to get some playing done." Said Mike Nolan after one of the practices.

Canucks still goalless in tournement

Did something go horribly wrong? Apparantly everything as Hockey Canada fell 2-0 to Fmjphoenix this afternoon. 22 year old Mike Nolan opened the scoring in the 43rd minute on a beautiful header behind rookie starter Deam Smart. Halftime didn't help anymore as Hockey Canada had many chances but couldn't convert.

In the 88th minute, keeper yes that's right keeper Powell Lamar took a free kick that soared behind Smart into the upper-left corner of the net. Shelly Berry claimed to have tipped it above Smart but replays showed Lamar scored. The goal buried Hockey Canada's chances of coming back and a spot in the Cup of Harmony playoffs.

With Abysmalistan left to play, Hockey Canada will try to preserve some dignity by clawing out a win or tie against them.

Lookitthat!
Kodiaks slide into the second round of the CoH with one game left.

Now, where were these Kodiaks during WC Quals?

As Acadia and Bishop FC continue to duel for the Cananite Cup, Chicanada Nationals take home yet another 1-0 victory, this time over a very talented Kazakhstania squad. The win leaves the Kodiaks in a dead heat for the top of Group 3 with only a game against Lethislavania (fellow Group 3 leader) left.

Today's win was led by Saints Foreward Chinglin Erish, who is looking just as good in CFF SuperLiga play and is in position to win some CFF laurels in addition to having two goals of his own for the National Squad, which looks a hell of a lot better than their 4-2-4 Qual record or last year's pathetic 1-0-2 record in the CoH.

Now many wonder if the Kodiaks will break a bizarre streak of the nation, after the CHC made it to the Quaterfinals of the Cherry Cup before getting smacked by the Icebergs of Kalaalit, the KodiKits settled for an 8th place finish in u21 play and both Douala and AS Risa just missed sliding into CL/NSFA Championship matches. Many pundits think the Chicanadan side could work towards some success depending on the eventual layout for the final 8.

Aroras Crash to AO Rivals

Bettia 0
Nova Britannicus 2 (Bentley 67, Jones 71)

Bettia were undone by a Britannican double-whammy halfway through the second-half in an otherwise keenly contested affair.

Manager Munir At-Tariq chose to rest top goalscorer Stuart Abdul-Rahim, replacing him with Judson York. The ever-impressive Aaron Brown also started today after his excellent late showing against Kylaai.

Both teams started out in positive fashion with Bettia having the best of the opening exchanges. A deftly chipped trough-ball found Rosenstiehl in space, but Powers took the ball off his foot as the young Bettian shaped up to take a shot at goal. At the other end, Pompey and La Salle went close, with Pompey forcing a good save from DiTorino in the Bettia goal.

Nova Britannicus had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down, the referee deciding that Pompey had been fouled outside the box rather than inside, earning the Bluebirds a free-kick and Gareth Coates a yellow card. The free-kick was frankly disappointing, with Bentley tamely striking the ball against the five-man wall.

A similar situation marked the end of the first half, but this time the opportunity fell to Bettia. In a move stright from the training ground, Brooks stepped over the ball and left it for Connick to slip the ball wide to Amir Bin Da'ud, who crossed the ball over and found the head of Coates. His firm header was well-saved by Cavaletti diving low to his left.

The second half continued in similar end-to-end fashion with chances falling to both sides. York in particular will be kicking himself after missing a glorious oppotunity, side-footing wide when it would have been easier to score.

The sucker-punch came after 67 minutes. A good move down the right, with Astin squaring the ball to Quentin Bentley in the centre. Bentley ghosted his way past Williams and McKinnon before curling the ball into the top corner from just inside the area to make it 1-0 to the Bluebirds. DiTorino appeared to get a fingertip to it, but to no avail.

Bettia were obviously shell-shocked by this and Nova Brittanicus took full advantage four minutes later. La Salle broke down the left-hand side and swung in a low cross which Akira Jones gratefully volleyed home from ten yards.

This stung the Bettian bench into action with Abdul-Rahim brought on in place of Williams in a bid to bounce back. Their effors, however, were in vain. Despite pouring forward, the Bluebirds were able to defend their lead quite comfortably.

This defeat leaves Bettia bottom of Group 1 with just one game to go, but not out of the competition by a long shot. A win against the Liamist States would put the Aroras in with a good chance of qualifying if Nova Britannicus win or draw against Kylaai. However, a Kylaai win would mean that Bettia will end up having to rely on goal difference to see them through.

Stacked match ensures Oglethorpian victory

Lethislavania (BT) -- The Oglethorpian Ostriches came into their match vs. the Nedalia Lions on high spirits; in the battle of flightless bird vs. fierce and noble predator, Oglethorpia could not hope for even a shred of credibility after the inevitable and resounding defeat double digits to nil at the hands of the indefatigable Lions, lest they do the unthinkable bribe the officials of the match.

And so the OAF did, in exchange for calls favoring the side. Never more evident was the pitifulness of the Oglethorpian Ostriches, than when they were able to field their whole starting eleven and reserve bench in the small perimeter of the goalie'x box on a Nedalian corner kick, all 22 players guilty of blatant shirt pulling incidents -- and the goal still sailed in, cutting even the very air that opposed it so vigilantly.

Oglethorpia answered just minutes later, with a triple-offsides attack featuring some 9 strikers.

Again the Ostriches would prove quite the deceitful dishonorable team characterized by the past 88 minutes with a blatantly acted out incidident on the part of Ostrich striker Anton Kremlov.

While 90 minutes finished with Oglethorpia up 2-1 on the Nedalia Lions, the entirety of the match amounted to an absolutely intolerable amount of cheating, further accentuated by blatant Oglethorpian bribery marked by a complete lack of any footballing skill whatsoever -- their play style barely resembling any sort of game whatsoever -- against a top-notch, World Cup winning-quality side fielded by Nedalia wholly discriminated against and fully deserved to win.

"At least next match they'll face a fair team, and won't be cheated out of 3 points" said Joe Staplin, President of the Shady Oglethorpian Cheating Association of Lack of Football.

One-zero-ed

Lethislavania (BT) -- Oglethorpia tallied its first loss of the Cup of Harmony today against Euroslavia. The Ostriches looked strong lined up, but as early as the second minute had already given up a goal.

"How embarassing," Torrence Black later commented. "It was as if Mike White Jr. was back there signing autographs for some foreign women."

"They were nice foreign women, i'll have you know," White said, attempting to justify his actions leading to a wholly uncontested goal. "It was the right thing to do. Really!"

Oglethorpia then failed to give themselves any chances the rest of the game, possession figures totally skewed towards Euroslavia.

"All Oglethorpia did was not give up a goal," said Luud van Mistletoe. "But its not like we ever had a chance to get one, either. Rather miraculous we didn't lose by more the way we played."

While the integrity of the World Cup squad has often been questioned, never more seriously than now, some voicing their opinion that even the ostrich is too noble a creature to use as the name of the Oglethorpian squad.

"'Flounders' is more like it, because they don't even look impressive like an ostrich; it's straight inconsequential struggling from the beginning," said one disgusted barkeep.

On the basis of goals for, Euroslavia has barely edged out the Oglethorpian Ostriches, ending their first Cup of Harmony with a typically somewhat-spirited effort but mostly half-assed showing.

"That's alright," said Joe Staplin. "We're back in double digits for World Cup 23 -- that's what our sights are set on now. With any luck, we'll make two qualifying victories next Cup. It was a good run -- for solidifying what we already know, that we suck."

With a poor showing in the Cup of Harmony following a disastrous World Cup 22 qualifying run, the Oglethorpian Association of Football plans to embark on a vigorous search for players whom slip in through loopholes to bring Oglethorpia some real footballing skill, decades before it is expected to again appear within the nation's borders.

Bluebirds Go Through Behind Champs
A Win, Draw and Loss puts Britannicans Through

A Draw to Liamist States, a win over Bettia and a loss to two-time Champions Kylaai managed to see Nova Britannicus through to the Second Round as Group One Runners-Up.

Only Akira Jones and Quentin Bentley have got on the Britannican scoresheet so far in the three games played, although the Bluebird defence has managed to keep two clean sheets. Having conceeded only to Champions of this tournament, Nova Britannicus are looking like they might even be able to bring home the Harmonic Trophy.

That'll mean we have to build a trophy cabinet, though. Ut-oh.

Kodiaks knock off the hosts, continue on their way.

Foreward Chinglin Erish scored another goal as the Kodiaks locked up a Group 3 victory, the teams first ever Group Stage Ladder Win, by defeating the hosts Lethislavania as the Kodiaks more than likely move on to face Euroslavia.

The match was over in the 19th minute, as Erish scored off a header to the right of the Lethislavian keeper.

We're speculating that Group 3 and Group 4 will meet each other in the Roun of 8, and this would have the Kodiaks take on a formidable Euroslavia team. Of course, they could also be facing Group 1 runner ups Nova Britannicus of Group 2's Abysmalistan.

G2A Haperd
G3A Chicanada
G4A The Weegies
G1B Nova Britannicus
G2B Abysmalistan
G3B Lethislavania
G4B Euroslavia

The current favorite in CFF eyes is Haperd, followed by Kylaai, Nova, Chicanada and the hosts. The Kodiaks sit third in the oddsmakers eyes, at 2-5 with Nova sitting pretty on top at 1-11 and Haperd at 5-9

Aroras Take A Bite Out Of Marmadukes (literally)

Bettia 2 (Abdul-Rahim 44, Killick og 81)
Liamist States 2 (Bell 37, Dressel 90)

Bettia bowed out of the Cup of Harmony after a thrilling match which will be remembered for a bizarre second-half incident.

Knowing that they needed a win to stand any chance of progressing, both teams came out in a positive frame of mind, with Brooks coming close after just two minutes. His wickedly inswinging corner was beaten away by Rainford Jr in the Liamist States goal when it looked like it sneaking into the top corner. McKinnon came close from the resulting corner kick, his glancing header narrowly going wide.

The Marmadukes best chance of the first half came after 15 minutes when Coates was dispossed in his own half by States' captain Manoni. A short pass wide to the wing found Champion in space, whose low cross into the area was met with some venom by Iziary. Luckily for Bettia, the only target struck was a cameraman next to the goal.

The first half continued in this attacking fashion with Hutton and Brooks going close for Bettia, and Bell spurning a couple of chances for the Liamists.

It was the Liamist States who made the first breakthrough, as Bell beat the Bettian offside trap, sidestepped keeper DiTorino and coolly slotted home.

Their lead didn't last for long as Bettia equalised on the stroke of half-time. A quickly taken free-kick found Abdul-Rahim with his back to goal some 25 yards out. Before the defenders in attendance could react, the Bettian striker turned on a six-Groat piece and lashed the ball home to send his team one goal to the good.

The second half started where the first left off, with both sides creating numerous chances but making no further breakthroughs. the talking point came on the hour mark. As Jackson Eaks made one of his trademark runs along the sideline, the Bettian mascot suddenly broke free from his/her handler (telling the gender of an arora is notoriously difficult) and attacked the Marmaduke midfielder's ankles.

Investigations are currently underway as to how this incident happened, which resulted in Eaks needing stitches in his ankles and facing a short spell on the sidelines. The arora's handler Frank Richardson told reporters "Well I thought Tiddles was asleep so I just popped off for a quick slash. When I returned the little bugger was gone!"

When play restarted some ten minutes later, the States immediately took the initiative. A long drop-kick from Rainford Jr was headed on by Manoni to Champion whose long-range effort was easily gathered.

Bettia won their thirteenth corner of the game ten minutes from time thanks to some sterling work from substitutes Swain and York, and the number 13 proved to be unlucky for Killick who headed into his own net to give the Aroras the lead.

It seemed as though Bettia would hold onto their lead, but were cruelly denied by Christian Dressel who, after exchanging a one-two with Bell, broke into the area and poked the ball home under DiTorino's body as he came out to challenge.

And so both Bettia's and the Liamist States Cup of Harmony campaigns came to an end, as Kylaai and Nova Britannicus progressed into the Second Round.

Kylaai play against host

Kylaai were very close to lose in the cup of harmony before the team has win over Nova Britannicus. Kylaai did only score one goal at all during the three games. The games Kylaai against Liamist States and Kylaai against Bettia did have a score of 0-0. From these games Kylaai got two points and Nova Britannicus was in first place with 4 points. It was because Liamist States and Bettia played the game against each other that Kylaai must win against Nova Britannicus. Vlanti Vimorta scored the goal for Kylaai to win the game with a score 1-0. Kylaai will now play the game against Oglethorpia who are also the host. This will be very good for Kylaai to practice before World Cup 23 and to hope they will not play in the cup of harmony again.

Kylaai play in final

Kylaai will be in the final of the cup of harmony again. In quarter final Kylaai had to play the host Oglethorpia. Oglethorpia was very good but Kylaai scored 2 goals in the end of the game to win and get to the semi final. Oglethorpia scored the first goal and was winning for the most of the game. Mazu Kazu scored in the second half to make the scores tied, and Norada-Fell scored the second goal for Kylaai at the end.

In the semi final Kylaai play against Abysmalistan. It was not expected for Abysmalistan to play in the semi final but Kylaai play them anyway. It was one of the best wins for Kylaai of all time when Kylaai win the game and score the most goals. In the first half of the game Kylaai score two goals. Macala Moria and Mazu Kazu score for Kylaai in the first half. In the second half, Mazu Kazu scored 2 more goals and Vlanti Vimorta scored a goal too. This was three goals for Mazu Kazu against Abysmalistan. At the end of the game, Kylaai won over Abysmalistan 5-0. For the third time Kylaai will play in the cup of harmony final. Kylaai won the cup of harmony first against Snub Nose 38. The second time for Kylaai was a win over Tadjikistan. In cup of harony invitational XIV, Kylaai will play Nova Britannicus and try to win a new record for cup of harmony.

"This is the greatest night in Britannican Footballing History! Nova Britannicus are Champions of the 14th Cup of Harmony!"

On TV screens all over Nova Britannicus and more than a few in Starblaydia, millions of people cheered along with the stadium-full of fans watching in living colour. Rick Powers, captain of his country, lifted the brightly-polished 14th Cup of Harmony into the air as Navy Blue, red and gold ticker tape was blasted into the air all around him and his team.

They chant and bounce and sing as the sound of 'Powers' Army' rings out amongst the fans. Some minutes ago, the final whistle had been blown and Nova Britannicus had defeated two-time Cup of Harmony Champions Kylaai 5-2 in Nova Britannicus' first ever final.

Long-time captain Rick Powers himself had scored Nova Britannicus' opening, the twenty-seven year old setting the scene for the Bluebirds' first title in their twenty-year history. He struck from around twenty-seven yards with a sweet half-volley that beat the 'keeper by a mile and crashed in off the underside of the bar. Akira Jones bagged himself a hat-trick, the most precious of things in a Final, scoring with a diving header from close range, a second tap-in from a La Salle cross and a third peach of a goal by dribbling past a man into the box and unleashing a left-foot curler around the goalie. Then Quentin Bentley, son of that great Starblaydia player and now Honsfield Athletic Manager David, rounded off a five-star performance with a fifth goal, shooting across the face of the 'keeper and into the back of the net for out wide.

Kylaai managed a brace of goals in reply but it was Nova Britannicus' night from Start to finish. With the location for the upcoming World Cup Hall of Fame expected to be announced shortly, will there be a place for any Britannicans? Though other great names such as John and Charlie Bowman, Wilbert Willis, Royal Seaford or Henry Tuckworth would be vying for a Britannican nomination, where would we be players such as Nick Cavaletti, Rick Powers and Akira Jones?

Not Cup of Harmony Champions, that's for certain.

We won our first cup, do you know how it felt?
J-P G-R, the man gave us all his help
We went over to Leth and Ogle too
Kicked all your arses while wearin' Navy Blue

We scored five goals, three from Akira Jones

The night came down and the Trophy came up
Finally we'd lifted our Cup

Powers' Great Army is glorious
So lift it high, that silver trophy you kiss
And we'll go back home with a Cup like this
