Why do people take the Nation States population counter seriously?

Hello. :)

Why do people take it seriously? According to Nation States, a new nation's population goes from 5 million to 1,000,000,000 in just 1 year. Or, about 10 million a day. This is about as realistic as saying: "Ok, my 1 soldier killed your entire army. Your ." My Nation States population says 800,000,000 (800 Million) but I just roleplay it at 77 million. If 2 nations go to war, one can just say "Well, I have 2 billion people, and you only have 500 million, so I'm going to win this thing!" If your people give birth to 10 to 20 million people a day, than let's godmod more, and say that they all grow up in that day, and they go off to war. The real world population only grows at 200,000 a day. The only good it does is to tell how long someone has been playing. Anyway, I just find it so stupid that people want no godmoding, and they want logistics for a war of realisim, but they overlook this.

One RL day is not necessarily one NS day.

One RL day is not necessarily one NS day.

It's still stupid. Here is the list of Real world countries with over 1 billion people.

India

China

That's only 2 countries. Those countries have been around for 1,000's of years, too.

There isn't any need to bump when your post is still on the first page, you know.

We use the population counter as a measurement of comparative strength ad the time that a nation has been around - nations with larger populations are considered to have more technology and power at their disposal than smaller ones.

Besides, NationStates is game of the imagination, it doesn't ahve to be realistic as long as it is enjoyable.

Very true, and if you ask me your economy is a hell of a lot more important.

Very true. In RL, I've been around for 51 days ( = approx. 51 NS years) and my population is already well over 300 million. In NationStates, however, I've been around for 800 years and my population is still not very much over 90 million. It's actually more fun to have a smaller army than a huge one that kills everyone, because you can lose as well as win.

Very true, and if you ask me your economy is a hell of a lot more important. The economy, again, is only a measurement. It's unrealistic to have a very high or very low economy level. I know very few nations in the world that have an economy meriting a label of "All-Consuming" or "Imploded".

Also, the population is unrealistic for most modern nations. Many countries have been around for a long time, such as Panama (103 years, or in Nationstates 103 days - which equals about 600 million people), and still have less than NS's minimum of five million. As someone said in the thread, "Why do you play NationStates?", "Five million is only a number."[/quote]
