From: Alexander Kirillovich Kazansky
To: His Majesty Emperor Napoleon IV
Subject: Your Ranch

[i]Your Majesty!

I have prepared for you a small 320-acre ranch in the new Allanean State of Tennesee. As I plan to retire in a similar estate nearby, I hope that you would enjoy both your new summer estate and your new neighbour.
Sincerely yours,
Your faithful servant,
Alexander Kirillovich Kazansky

President Kazansky,

I thankyou ever so much for the kind gift you have made to me. It is something I appreciate more than any other gift I have been given.

You are, as always, a man of impeccable character and I would be honoured to live near your Emminence.

I shall be visiting the Plantation in five days.

Sincerely,

Napoleon

The party was not the usual sort you would expect in Allanea - no noisy drinking, loud music, and most certainly drug-binging revellers stretched out of the floor. Instead, Kazansky enjoyed a company of a few of Allanea's elite - several corporation owners, artists, politicians. He knew anything in the "national style" party would not find favor with the Confederacy.

In the meantime as he waited for the Emperor, he drank tea made by a Hashi manservant and conversed with some of the partygoers. Suddenly, he froze. Murphy, the Surveyor-General, entered the room - and he brought his daughter with him.

The girl, maybe only seventeen years old, was positively beautiful, despite her modest attire and thick glasses. She was apparently raised to see herself as a lonely nerd, but even through seventeen years of insecurity her true beauty did show.

"Good day, Murphy. Who is the young treasure?" - asked Kazansky distractedly.

"Oh, she ain't no treasure, and her name is Angela Murphy."

Kazansky held his eyes on Angela for maybe a second longer than would be expected, and then another Hashi announced: "His Imperial Higness, Napoleon IV Emperor of Greater Prussia, Sovreign Protector of Reichskamphen , King of Burgundy and Allanea!"

Four Imperial Guardsmen arrayed themselves in a line, obscuring the vision of the crowd. They were in pattern 1810 uniforms and carrying traditional flintlock muskets. Opening their formation, they revealed the Emperor Napoleon. He was dressed quite differently than most people would have remembered seeing him. He was actually in a tuxedo with a cream coloured dinner jacket. (Normally he was dressed in either Imperial Guard uniforms, or standard court attire (early 1800's style dress) Around his neck, however, was the Legion d'Honneur (Part of the Corronation Jewels, replicated from the one used by Napoleon I) By his side hung an elaborately decorated pistol accented with a few well placed diamonds. The Ivory grips were engraved with the Imperial Crest.

"Kazansky!" the Emperor shouted accross the room in a jovial manner. The Emperor gave him a bear hug. "You really are a splendid chap to throw a party like this for me. I insist on supplying some of the libation." He snapped his finger, and a Hashi manservant brought forth three bottles of Napoleon Premier Champagne (Found at GPWAS). "Tell the others to help you," Napoleon instructed the Hashi, "And get me about 20 decanters out here for tasting."

"Kazansky, my good fellow. I actually brought alot of my wine collection with me to store here and so I believe that we could have a nice time of a wine tasting." Napoleon pulled out a "Leo" Cigar, from the Stossel plantation in Hash. "This was a personal gift from Leo Stossel himself...two of the finest cigars that were made in the historic crop. They were taken out of the family's private reserve. Here, have one and we'll light up."

Kazansky smiled merrily as he lit the Cigar. "You see now, my friend," - he spoke, "I am now retired from public life - no worries, no resposibility, and best of all, no city life." He glanced at the Hashi manservants as they rushed about with the wines. "Truly, a human being is not built to live in a hive, and cities are unhealthy for us. But even despite this, I am curious: Tell me, though, how is it at the Imperial capital? How did you leave the Empire? Is the Parliament finally working or has it been the same old story as all of those places?"

On the other side of the room, the Surveyor-General looked with interest at the Emperor. He whispered to one of the men around him: "Wow. Look at that piece!". Because carrying weapons was a tradition in Allanea, they became a matter of fashion as well as self-defense. Many things were disputed, but one thing everybody who knew anything about the subject agreed on: Ivory grips where a sign of a man with refined tastes and traditionalist leanings. Many Allaneans who strove for an upper-class look considered the option. "Is this real ivory or what? I am tellin' you this, General Patton would have been proud!"

In the meanwhile, while nobody else could see it, Murphy's daughter was examining Kazansky. While she knew that in fact he was an ancient, immortal being of several hundred years old, the embodied being of Allanea herself, her eyes could not help but see a boy only two years older than herself, and one who had a demeanour of nobility and power about of him - not because he ruled Allanea once, but because he was certain in himself and his bearing, polite and humble, and yet unservile... and he looked good, too.
