Megalopolis City Olympic Games Bid
The Olympic Subcommitee, in cooperation with the Megalopolis City municipal government and federal government humbly submits the following bid to bring the 2010 Winter Olympic Games to the capital of Oglethorpia, Megalopolis City.

Table Of Contents
1. Bid Introduction
2. Venues
3. Supplementary Facilities
4. Government Cooperation
5. Sponsorship Potential
6. Spectator Draw
7. Conclusion

1. Bid Introduction
For its first foray into the Olympics, Megalopolis City (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Megalopolis_City) of the Bureaucratic States of Oglethorpia (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Oglethorpia) submits its bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.

http://photos6.flickr.com/11189385_847f18bccb_o.jpg

While Oglethorpia has yet to participate in an Olympic Games, Megalopolis City, capital of a nation of 3.6 billion people is no stranger to winter sports. Curling and ice skating are popular sports during the offseason of football, as well as outlying ski resorts away from the heart of the city. While the city is a concrete jungle with a towering skyline, this soon gives way to more suburbs on the outskirts and shows the beautiful Oglethorpian landscape. With the existing venues in place, the city can remodel and make improvements upon the following locales to bring them up to Olympic-worthy status;

2. Venues
Amalgamated Stadium - As an all seater stadium expanded to house 104,000 spectators, Amalgamated Stadium hosts Megalopolis City F.C. home games, as well as the national squad's home games. While the Olympic Subcommittee of the State Bureau would rather use smaller venues to provide a better view, Amalgamated Stadium will be used if housing large crowds is necessitated.
Megalopolis Plaza Curling Rink - Located near Oglethorpia's historical Megalopolis Plaza, this facility has multiple curling rinks. Reconfiguring the setup shall allow for more spectators to attend the competition.
Stuttergart Dome - This 14,000 seater indoor basketball court, normally used for intercity basketball league games can host all rink sports. In its ice hockey configuration, the stadium will seat 13,000 spectators, but the Olympic Subcommittee has ensured that plans will be put in place to expand the amount of seating.
Steerford-Capital Hills Ski Resort - occupying the outskirts of the Plains Mountain Range, use of snow machines and clever run design have helped to turn a lackluster snowfall and a weak landscape into a first rate ski resort. Supplemented by further retooling and grooming, the Steerford-Capital Hills Ski Resort shall provide an outstanding venue for ski and snowboard events.
Additional facilities shall be constructed, after Oglethorpian officials see the interest in the Megalopolis City 2010 Winter Olympics bid. This, in addition to extensive planning in taking the fullest advantage of existing venues to provide the best location for the Olympic Games.

3. Supplementary Facilities
Other facilities within Megalopolis City also show the city's preparedness to handle the crowds that come with the games. The city's standardized grid system is poised to handle road traffic, while the el train network will also keep people moving. The city's coordinated law enforcement efforts will supplement the existing infrastructure with extra assistance.

The city's affluent downtown district is also home to many luxurious and opulent hotels, to accomodate the inlfux of people that will come with the games.

4. Government Cooperation
The Oglethorpian federal government fully support state and city administrative cooperation in presenting a bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The Olympic Subcommitee of the government's federal State Bureau shall coordinate state-level orginization of the event, while the city's municipal government will take care of secuirity, traffic and other arrangements.

5. Sponsorship Potential
Further, seeing the opportunity in a Olympics hosted in the economically prosperous Bureaucratic States, international and national corporate sponsorship will be in no short supply. In addition, Amalgamated Industries, Oglethorpia's largest domestic manufacturer has already pledged sponsorship were the Olympics to come to the nation.

6. Spectator Draw
Finally, Oglethorpia's 3.6 billion population, and the widespread availability of air, maglev (rail) and road transport help establish that not only will there be an international response to the Olympic Games being in Megalopolis City, but there will be a massive domestic response and interest in the first Olympic Games to come to the nation.

7. Conclusion
In conclusion, the economic prosperity, expandable sports arenas and venues, federal, state and local government cooperation and interest in the winter games are all convincing factors to bring the 2010 Winter Olympic Games to Megalopolis City, Oglethorpia.

OOC: You were given scores out of 10 for four categories - in order from left to right, they are government support, existing facilities, popular support and current funding for the games. That was totalled and then subsequently your odds of winning were derived from that in relation to the top scorer.

Basically, your score was lower in a category mostly because you didn't mention government support etc. at all in your bid. Oglethorpia and Hamptonshire did, resulting in a high score. This does not suggest that they will hold a better games than the Bristol or Marshalliston bids, which scored lower on the preliminary evaluation.

Hockey Canadian government vows to fully support Vancouver bid.

VANCOUVER, HOCKEY CANADA- The Hockey Canadian government announced today in the Department of Economics that it will give more than the necessary amount of money to make the Vancouver Olympics enjoyable for all nations. Advertising from other nations will be allowed as well as commercial support from Hockey Canadian franchises. Hockey Canada is expected to give the Vancouver bid 15.8 billion dollars, more than enough to pay for all costs without putting the country in a defecit.

The money will be taken from the economy, an area where Hockey Canada is probably flowing with money from citizens and taxpayers. The move is now a bill, appropriatly called "Piggy Bank" operation, where the economy is like a piggy bank where Hockey Canada puts money in and the bid can take what they need. It's a win-win situation for Hockey Canada.

The government will not just back the bid up financially. They will offer the best-trained security to keep the environment safe for all athletes. The Olympic Village will offer a positive environment for all people, and the opening and closing ceremonies will surely be one of the most specacular scenes in sporting history.

Whether Hockey Canada gets the bid, they'll make the olympics convienent for all nations.

Statement from the Prime Minister of Ness Snorlaxia

If Ozette is chosen as the host city for the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Parliament shall allocate a fund of four billion and three-hundred and sixty-three million crowns to support the Ozette bid.

As some of this funding is coming from the Ness Snorlaxian Armed Forces, they have agreed to supply security forces to the city and will protect the facilities used at the Olympics. The police force of Ozette, and the Ness Mountains State Police will also agree to help with security. We will guarantee that anyone will be safe.

Of course, not all of the funding is coming from the government. Two large private companies, the Victoria Broadcasting System and Hesburger, have agreed to fund the bid. Goomba Airlines have also agreed to fund the bid.

Any company, and any person for that matter, are allowed to donate as much money as they want for the bid. Last, we will allow foreign advertisements from anywhere in the world to be displayed in the stadiums, the city of Ozette, and the whole Ness Mountains state.

If we win the bid and Ozette is selected as the host city, we promise to make the Olympic experience one that is enjoyable and safe for all.

2010 Olympic Games poised to bring Oglethorpia economic boom

Megalopolis City (BT) -- Civilian and government economists agree; if Megalopolis City (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Megalopolis_City) is chosen as the host of the 2010 Olympic Games, the country will see an economic explosion unparalleled in magnitude. To date, Amalgamated Industries (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Amalgamated_Industries) has already pledged sponsorship to the Olympics, with corporations regionwide clamoring to get their name seen. Allegedly in talks are Swedeway's SOB Auto Manfacturing and Varomich & Co Bottlers of The Etherlands.

Oglethorpia's largest broadcaster, the Central Broadcasting Network, having footed the bill to televise Olympic Games will see its advertising airtime at a premium.

"It's one thing if they televise the games," commented State Bureau statistician Clint Jarvis. "It's another if they're within the The Plain Flat Plains (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/73122/page=display_region) - everybody thinks they can tap into the market if they get in an ad."

Further, the influx of people will see a rise in the concession industry, creating a slew of new jobs in the process.

"If we knew we were hosting the Olympics, there'd just be a tide of advertising. Tons of money. And all that money," adds Jarvis, "means more can be put back into the current plan to host the Olympics."

"Of course, with all these people comes logistical problems; secuirity, infrastructure, etc.," commented President Roald Regeln. "But we're ready and willing to go the extra mile to accomodate the Winter Olympics. The furor over corporate sponsorship will just blow past the boiling point if we were to find out we were the host city."

The operative word being "if." All the months of organization and extensive contingency planning, an economic boom the likes of which never seen before, and the hopes of a nation all hinging on a single word.

Many announcements about Oliverrian bid to host 2010 Winter Olympics

Marshalliston, OLIVERRY-The minister of Sports and president of Oliverry 2010 organisation, Guillaume Fournier, announced that they received the support of Groupe Construction Gibouère to build an olympic village. In the plan they released yesterday, the village will include 5 groceries, 1000 habitations which can host 10 people each, a discotheque, 2 gymnasiums, 6 restaurants and a bar. It will be built 2 kilometers North from Marshalliston.

Private contributors? Really?

Yes, we heard that the richest person in Oliverry, Regis Porsche, will contribute to permit to Oliverry to win the bid. He will fund the construction of the Olympic village so that the governement doesn't have to send money on it. The owners of each facilities will pay an amount of money to the olympic organisation to permit, again, to Oliverry to win.

Jingoism takes hold nearing one week till 3rd IOC Session

Megalopolis City (BT) -- With just 9 days left until voting upon the 2010 Winter Olympic Games host at the Third International Olympic Committee Session, rampant nationalist sentiment has spread like wildfire throughout the country in desire to bring the games to Oglethorpia.

"We don't want to brag,
But by Jingo, if we do,
We've got the city,
We've got the men,
We've got the money too.

Bring the Olympics to Megalopolis City!"

"It's great to see public support for the Megalopolis City bid," commented Olympic Subcommittee Cheif Mel Green Jr. "Remarkable that donations from the public haven't been quite what we expected; luckily, diverted funds, the rising trade surplus (http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?region=The%20Plain%20Flat%20Plains&nation=oglethorpia) and corporate sponsorship are covering for them."

Despite the lack of total committment from the citizens of Megalopolis City, the feeling is largely understood to mean the games in the Bureaucratic States shall be a large crowd draw, a true opportunity for the city economically. The Federated Construction Consortium has been contracted to construct the planned Olympic Village, should the city win the bid. The largest challenge will be to accomodate the projected amount of people.

"If we know we've got it, you know this'll be one hell of an Olympic Village," assured Michael Mauve, the The Federated Construction Consortium's head. "We understand how much the country wants it, and have an idea of what we'll have to do to fit them all."

"All we can do is keep pooling our funds, and hope our committment and planning will earn Megalopolis City the games," finished Green. "No matter what, i'm sure they'll be a great Olympic Games. All we can do is wait."

And so too the rest of Oglethorpia waits.

Hockey Canada not to be outdone by other bids.

With bids and jingles going up everywhere, Hockey Canada promises not to be outdone. The song "we're gonna win" has been Hockey Canada's rallying cray as they head into the elections.

We're gonna win
Don't wanna be a loser - gonna win
Cuz winnin' really is the only thing
Get out of the way we're comin' in
If ya wanna fight just step inside the ring
Does anybody wanna take a swing?
It's gotta be all or nothing
Oh we're gonna be the hosts
Ya we're goin' all the way - we're gonna win, win

We're gonna win
Forget about a draw - we're gonna score
And then we're gonna get a few more
Maybe another one just to be sure
We'll make other hosts look like an amateur
Until the closing ceremony it's a war
And then we're gonna pick ya off the floor
We wanna hear the crowd really roar
Ya - we're comin' in we're gonna win, win

We're gonna win - we wanna win
Cuz being host is everything
We're gonna win - we wanna win
We're going all the way
We're gonna win

The current trade surplus of $477 billion should be enough money to more than support all funding, including the new high-tech building for the new hosting ceremonies.

OOC: for the next 2 months i'll be on the computer for 6 hours a day due to high-school exams finished and numerous other things cancelled, making bid hosting and RPing more than acceptable.

Not to be outdone...

With statistics and the like being thrown around haphazardly, Oglethorpia pledges not to be outdone. In a rare interview with a Central Broadcasting Network television crew, President Roald Regeln commented;

"I want to dispel any rumors about the logistics of the Megalopolis City bid. A trade surplus is the icing on the cake; but you have to have the cake first. I wholly assure you, we have that cake; and it is worth 138 trillion Parcels. There's plenty of money to be had from both the budget and extraneous sources, so we're more focused on our actual plan for the Olympics."

Despite the nation having a bid out on the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Olympic Subcommittee maintains its position of "may the best city win."
