The army was collecting, just north of Genoa. There were close to 200,000 infantry and over 7,000 cavalry. Italy had to be unified no matter what the cost. The army had its sights set on Naples and then it would be able to bully the others into submission. The army carried eighty cannons and would arrive at its destination within the week. Soon the march south began.

Naples, One Week Later

The defending army gazed out upon the battlefeild. It was flat, open, and they were out numbered. Their only hope would have been the Papal States but the Pope knew it would only be a waste of life. Guiseppe Mazzini and Camillo di Cavour had united and Italy would be unified.

The Naples generals had a decision to make. Should they surrendur they ran a great risk for the future of their people, should they stand and fight they would surely face death. The vote was unanymous. They would fight.

The 100,000 infantry began and advance on the Unified Italians. Before they had cut the distance in half their numbers had been cut in half. A barrage of cannon fire tore across the battle feild accompanied by a massive cavalry charge. The entire campaign lasted only hours. Naples was now part of the Kingdom.

The northerners took pity and as long as Naples was loyal the terms of surrendur would be light. Besides, Napoleon was a bigger problem now, as were the Austrian Monarchs.

Later that month, with no substantial force to fight with the Kingdoms of Sicily and Tuscany ceded their lands and allowed the Unified Kingdom to turn its sights north. With their numbers now matching well over 5,000,000 they would be a force to reckon with if any conqueror should step over their borders.
