Erik Himzein stood there his mouth gaping open in disbelief as he stared at the massive Kzinti “you want me to do what?!” he stammered as the end of a cigar dropped to the clean shag carpet below.

The Kzinti was clearly not pleased by the scent of a burning cigar; his patience was wearing thin, Construction Captain-Gar’zek paced slowly back and forth. “We are going to build a station of capable of watching the monkey’s fleet movements from the edge of Sol’s gravity well, and your one of the construction groups being contracted for this mission”

“That’s insane! Do you know how long it takes to travel to Sol?!” Erik retorted quickly realizing the error of questioning a Kzinti.

Construction Captain-Gar’zek stared at Erik with murder in his eyes, his fur and naked pink tail going rigid, looming over the human, who gulped and looked up like a child in trouble with his parents.

“Are you questioning the orders of the patriarch? You do know what happens when you question the patriarch?” Construction Captain-Gar’zek growled a row of long sharp fangs revealed behind his think black lips.

“I’m sorry I forgot my manners, of course I shall call everyone together and start preparing the space assets.” Erik cringed at the thought of getting on the patriarch’s bad side, being hunted like game by him or one of his children was not an ideal way to die.

“Good”

3 months later

Erik rubbed his stubble as he examined his weary face in the mirror, the bags under his eyes, and his blotchy skin. Erik was brought back to the world of reality as the speaker blared throughout the ship.

”Attention, attention, the forward scout force has been launched one week till the construction fleet is sent that is all.”

Erik groaned the days had been flying by, it would take them a month alone to travel to Sol and he didn’t know how long it would take to complete this space station, the popular vote between the different construction ships was upwards of 7 years.
Staring out the window Erik watched as the scout force jumped into hyperspace leaving behind nothing but empty void.

Sighing heavily he put on the rest of his clothes and walked down to the galley, where several of his construction team were resting. Lindra, Erik’s secret mistress spoke up softly, they kept their relationship under wraps, it was better for morale that way,” Well it’s about time you got up cap’n, we just got word from another construction team, they wanna place a make a wager on who can get the most completed on the station.”

“Ha! if they think those pile of rust they call a construction ships can out do us then they got another thing coming.” He snorted at the though of losing to another team.

Ray, one of his longer employed workers glanced up from his poker hand, puffing on his cigar, blue smoke flowing freely from his mouth. “Hey Erik, you think these Sol nations are really gunna just sit by and let us building a giant space station capable of watching some chick undress herself in the privacy of her own home on earth from the edge of the gravity well?”

“ Well, for starters we can’t see anything that well or so I’ve heard, I figure those damned paranoid ratcats got their tails in a knot from the thought of nation with more military ships than they have cubs. “

“Well still you think their just gunna say ‘hey that’s no problem go ahead and build something to watch us in our own territory’ I mean that’s just asking to be shot at… ”

“yes, and you should hope to finigal I’m right…”

Sol, 1700 hours
1 month later

Seven violent flashes of light tore away the quiet and calm of the edge of Sol as the Scout task force now titled "all seeing task force" by some of the more energetic construction teams. Several minutes after the flashes of light disappeared the seven ships spread out beginning scanning operations.

There was no subtly like the last time Kzinti ships entered Sol, no hiding, no attempts of run from the monkeys of Sol. There orders were clear hold this position and await the coming construction fleet in one Sol week’s time.

Task-force Commander-Chzar could barely contain his delight upon finally reaching the monkey home world, it was his first command of anything more than a single ship and this mission was the first since his recent promotion.

He immediately began barking orders as data was spent and received, everything from checking up on whether any planets had disappear from monkey infighting to making sure they entered Sol at the correct position. He doubted the monkeys would have the courage to dare attack his task force, overconfidence was a killer and it kept the promotions coming in at a steady flow, like his predecessor for example.
