The New Nation of Somniverus and its Young Queen

Mora sat at her father's deathbed and heard him take his last breath.

She didn't weep, and she didn't scream. What she did was to curl her hands into tight fists. Her nails dug into her palms.

She sat there like this for a minute or so. What was on her mind was her father's dying wish: That she bring Somniverus together as a nation, and run it for the people. 'And I know you’ll...you’ll do it well, my...darling...' he'd said, and then he had died. People might say that he was too young to die, and Mora too young to rule; but he'd been sickly for years, and Mora was older of mind than she was of years.

Finally, she spoke: "Father..." she whispered to the air, "...Father.... I don't know exactly what you thought me capable of, but I don't want it thought that if I ever disappointed you, I disappointed your memory. I shall do what you ask, to the best of my ability, and no less than that." With one, small, stray tear, she closed his eyes.

When she stood up, she was no longer just Mora, she was Queen Mora.

And thus starts the Constitutional Monarchy of Somniverus, with its 23-year-old Queen.

Great! Another new nation! Let's throw a party.
Wait...
Tarlachia

"Earth is getting crowded." muttered Arleni as she sat in the office of her cousin, Sigrun Greenwood, who was the ruler of Tarlachia.

"Yeah, I know. That's why we're making preparations to jump to space." he replied with no change in his voice.

"So what do you want to do?" she asked, putting down the pen she was using to sign a document.

"Send the customary welcome basket." he replied with a wave of his hand, "This whole new influx of nations these days are starting to tax our spare budget, but then again, I don't want to see each and every one of them crushed under the heels of older nations."

He got up and walked to the window, staring out at the city of Turath which sat upon a hill surrounded by plains that stretched as far as the eye could see.

"After all, we were in their shoes once."

Queen Mora was quietly reading a book when a knock came at her door.

"Who is it?" she called.

"Lynea," was the muffled reply from the other side.

"Come in."

Lynea entered. She was a petite blonde girl, and when she was two feet from the Queen, she bowed low.

"Your Majesty," she said.

Mora just looked at her for a moment. "Oh, not you too. Don't you start with that nonsense. Now, what is it?"

"We've received a basket from Tarlachia."

"Send them a thank you then," Mora told her. "We shan't be thought to be ungrateful."

Lynea nodded and left the room swiftly, leaving the Queen in silence and in thought.

Mora considered the state of things for a few minutes before going back to her book.
