Foxes Hunted Down
Matis Scores Sharks' and NPL's First Ever Goal
It took former Starblaydi-international Julio Matis just five minutes to score the first ever goal in the Nedlian Premier League. Matis, 33, was set up by a lovely crossfield ball from Ahmed Kavanti and he brought it down on his chest, skipped past a defender and fired it low across the body of the Kimstronne 'keeper.
"I'm in East Africa, and I'm loving it," Matis said after the match, "the Boss (David Bentley) brought me here from the Pennies and I'm enjoying this little Indian Summer I'm having."
An hour after Matis had made history, Kavanti got the goal he deserved, drilling the ball from outside the area into the back of the net after a well-rehearsed free-kick, Jojo Mclure knocking the ball sideways for Kavanti to smash into the net.
Though the scoreline didn't really reflect the true possession percentages in the match, Britannican goalie Joe Smythe pulling off a string of spectacular saves as Kimstronne piled in the pressure in an attempt to equalise.
This win puts Honsfield fifth in the table after this opening matchday, which Britannican Manger David Bentley welcomed and put down to hard work on the training pitch.
"We have Nedalians, Britannicans and a Starblaydi and they've combined to give us a great start," he said, "three points was all I could ask for today, and Julio, Ahmed, Joe and the boys have given us a great start."
Aanjar chop down Woodston in 3 - 1 victory
Aanjar manager Bassam Bin - Dammam today announced his intention to ride this victory all the way to Week 38, and lift the Season One trophy himself.
"I dont think there is any team that can compete with ours, not this year. Yes, its only been one game, but from what I've seen, we have the most talented squad in the entire Premier League."
Aanjar defeated Woodston 3 - 1, with goals coming from 21 year old, U21 striker Howard, who scored 2, and striker Juanito. Aanjar dominated possession the entire match, with the only defensive lapse they experienced costing them the goal, with Samuel taking advantage of it.
"We have to work out a very minor glitches, but otherwise, I dont see how we wont be on top at the end of this thing. I have full faith in my players, I really do."
And after such a convincing victory, who is to argue?
