This is the place for the owners of the 35 clubs that have signed up for the NSFA Cup to post anything regarding the clubs. Squad (or roster for Americans) lists are very welcome, as are newspaper reports, injury stories...anything that has some relevance to the team, really.
Good luck!

The team widely regarded as 'consistant runners-up' in the FLP league I are to debut in international club competition in the NSFA cup. The team is highly comprised of youngsters, as the team searches for a long-term solution to the domination of Earlsford Rangers.
In goal is the 18 year old keeping genius of Casper Johnson. Expected to break into the national team upon the international retirement of Earlsford keeper Brians, reported to be after the Baptism of Fire tournament coming up.
The defence is not young however, with an average age of 31 amongst the aging players. However on the bench is 20 year old rising star Goth, who is getting better by the day.
The midfield would be in a similar position were it not for the presence on the left wing of 20 year old Stark, a huge contrast to his companion on the right, who at 29 is a seasoned veteran.
Upfront is 23 year old goal machine Michael Staff, and the 18 year old Fuller, who averaged a goal a game in the U21 tournament last year.
The team is training, awaiting the draw for the first round.

It hasn't been the best of seasons for Zimbru Ts'khinvali. Having been fined ten points for failing to meet the SO League regulations, the team finished bottom of the table, despite a good start to the season that saw them top for the first few weeks. Despite this setback, coach Jamar Dircks is aiming for a good cup run.
"We were unfairly fined in the SO League, and as a result we finished bottom. That doesn't mean we can't compete though, and that's soemthing we'll hopefully be proving in this competition. I feel we have a reasonable chance of doing well in this tournament, and doing so would more than make up for our disappointing season. This will be our only international experience for at least two seasons, so hopefully we can do okay before trying our best to get back here, where we belong."
The tournament is set to begin tomorrow, and when it does, we will all be able to see how good the Zimbru team really are.

The Full, Official List of Starting Strike FC Players and their International Dossier.
[ 85 ] Jimmy Kater [ - Strike FC - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 29 GOALS::SR: U21: REG: )
Jimmy Kater took over the starting position on the National Team under the intense spotlight of the World Cup 17 Finals in Vilita. Kater has remained first choice keeper since then, despite a Quarter Final exit to Liverpool England. After leading the Vilita Under-21's to the Under-21 World Cup 7 Championship, Kater left a deflating Tivali City to join up-and-comers Arcticala Inlet, who he led to the top half of the Stellar Division tables. Kater earned a pair of consecutive Vilitan Cup titles with Arcticala Inlet, before returning to Strike FC ater the departure of Bryan 'Pop' Duiker
[ 8 ] Minu Borvel [ - Strike FC - ]
------- D LC ( AGE: 34 Nationality: Kaze Progressa )
[ 37 ] Lionel Nauseb [ - Strike FC - ]
------- D RLC ( Non-International )
[ 4 ] Kadu Hsen [ - Strike FC - ]
------- D C ( AGE: 33 Nationality: Rejistania )
[ 22 ] Umberto Melli [ - Strike FC - ]
------- M C ( AGE: 35 GOALS::SR: 11 U21: 2 REG: 0 )
Exciting Central Midfield prospect earning a starting role for his Club team and for the Vilitan U21 side. Brilliant performances in the historical Vilitan Under-21 World Cup 3 team earned Umberto Melli his first call up to the National Team during World Cup 15. He has since quited down from all the hype that had been given of him, but Melli has stayed true to form and is still one of the most reliable midfielders in all of Vilita.
[ 25 ] Santo Kecker [ - Strike FC - ]
------- M LC ( AGE: 40 GOALS::SR: 20 U21: 0 REG: 3 )
Captain of Vilitan National Team since the start of World Cup 13. Kecker transferred from Marine Coast United to Barcoenfuego of Kingsford for 6.2m Following World Cup 14. Kecker, a free kick specialist, was left homeless when the Kingsford Pillar League dissolved and decided the time was right for a return to the Vilitan League. While he had originally planned to rejoin Marine Coast United, Kecker ended up at Jungle Strike FC. To this day, Kecker, Strike or Marine Coast have not indicated any of the reasons behind this decision, and it is likely to remain a mystery. Whatever the reason, the effect is clear, with Strike stepping up as the main challenger to Yeaddin Owls in the seasonal challenge for the Stellar Division title, as well as counting up a handful of Vilitan Cup and Tropical Trophy victories along the way.
[ 55 ] Sylvain Emeka-Tuai [ - Strike FC - ]
------- M LC ( AGE: 23 GOALS::SR: 2 U21: 4 REG: 0 )
Sylvain was a transfer target of Santo Kecker at Strike FC, and was acquired following Terraroka Spirit's relegation to the Declasse division.
[ 59 ] Manolis Ipoua [ - Strike FC - ]
------- M LC ( AGE: 27 GOALS::SR: 0 U21: 2 REG: 0 )
Joined a re-vitalized Jlinal Cove in Vilitan season 9 after two moderate seasons at Marine Coast United, However made a quick transfer to Turoki Isle after Jlinal's relegation in Season 9.
[ 12 ] Serge DuPont [ - Strike FC - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 33 GOALS::SR: 32 U21: 8 REG: 17 )
Youthful Prospect Striker signed for Strike FC prior to Vilitan League Season Two. Made International Senior Debut in the highly controversialWorld Cup XV Qualfiying against the East Asian Empire and was been favored on the senior bench over veteren Lorenzo Mumamba.
[ 16 ] Jualiar Vumaou [ - Strike FC - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 35 Nationality: Turori )
Vumaou signed for Strike midway through Season 4 to partner the outstanding Serge DuPont during his 28 and 42 goal magical seasons. VUmaou himself has not been as prolific, with 68 goals in his 7th season with the team, but has nonetheless been productive and maintained his place both in the Strike FC squad and in the lineup of the Turori Eels senior National Team.

Likh'gokh To Prosper In Easy Group
Things Looking More Grim For Harewood
Likh'gokh K'druz'ba has got one of the easiest preliminary groups of the inaugural NSFA Cup, with only Fmjphoenix' runner-up Spraat FC and Vilitan Cup winners Arcticala Inlet posing any kind of threat to Likh'gokh - widely considered nowadays to be the only real threat to Jotneheim for the Compound League title. Striker pair Syku Lyku and Barry Alphonso - both regulars for their international sides - are expected to tear through the cup, with good help from Streetian international Travis Robertson in midfield.
However, Likh'gokh will not be playing on the first matchday of the NSFA Cup, owing to a rather strange schedule which is stretched out over ten weeks. Harewood FC, however, start off with the worst possible opposition - Jungle Strike FC of Vilita, with players like Santo Kecker, Jimmy Kater, Umberto Melli, Kadu Hsen and last, but not least, Rhianna Peters, the Street's World Cup hero.
However, Harewood have many stars of their own, and can not be counted out - their weakness lies, strangely enough for a Streetian team, in the attack, where they rely on 32-year-old Eric Saggers to play quite considerably above his normal skill level if they are to have any chance of progressing to the next round. Even though their midfield and defence will probably control the matches, Harewood might just draw a lot of games 0-0.

Inlet Scrape into NSFA Cup
-------------------------Arcticala Inlet scraped into the NSFA Cup by the seat of their pants, despite failing to win the Vilitan Cup for the first time in four seasons. Generally, the Final NSFA Cup place would go to the defending Vilitan Cup champions, but Arcticala Inlet were the 4th best performing team in the Stellar Division, and coupled with their appearance in the Vilitan Cup Final, which they lost to Eastal Lunar, and Lunar's subsequent finish of 9th in the final Table, well behind Arcticala Inlet, saw a controversial invitation sent to the Arcticala Inlet side.
-------------------------Eastal Lunar manager Jonathan Baledrokadroka has stated that he will not file a complaint, and insisted that his team would just have to finish in the top 2 next season, screw the NSFA cup and qualify for the Champions League. That will be a tough task, however, with some of the best teams in the World, such as defending champions league champions the Yeaddin Owls to overcome. Portland Timbers roster (starters in bold)
Coach: Kerry Tanner
GOALKEEPERS:
30 Troy Perkins: A longtime stalwart on the national team, Perkins backstopped the team's only league title, but he also has two cup titles for the Stars.
1 Mario Benedetti: Just signed from the minor leagues, Benedetti doesn't figure to get much game time with Perkins in goal.
DEFENDERS:
5 Devin James: The best defender on the offensive-minded Timbers, James often is asked to shut down the opposing team's top forward despite his inexperience.
8 Sal Dockery: Notorious for his aggressive tackling and fouls, Dockery is one of the league leaders in total fouls and cautions.
11 Joe Tillman: Learning how to play defense as a converted midfielder, but he is a better defensive player under normal circumstances.
18 Geoff Anders: Recently acquired in a trade, Anders should solidify a shaky right side of the defense.
20 Willie Williams: At 35, he's the oldest player on the Timbers, but the team plays steadier defensively when he's in the game.
23 Spencer Johnson: Can play either defense or midfielder depending on the team's needs. Often plays defense with the prodigious offenisve talent on the team.
MIDFIELDERS
9 Tucker Thompson: Just starting to grow into his role as a defensive midfielder for the Timbers. He'll soon be asked to mark the opposing team's top playmakers.
13 Richard Allenby: A tremendous threat from the left side, his heavy shot gives goalkeepers throughout the SFC problems.
14 Dan Canter: A streaky player on the right side of midfield, really struggles when he's forced into the central midfield role.
10 Dix Porter~: Team captain. The playmaker for the second choice Stars team that beat Vilita for the first time in national team history, Porter will be looked at to provide experience as well as leadership.
17 Anders Jarrod: Can play either defensive or wing midfielder as a reserve, but has only made three starts in his four year career. He'll be a bench player here.
19 Van Landon: He can either play midfielder or forward and often joins the attack from either position. Scored a league high 11 goals as a substitute.
FORWARDS:
12 John Clinton^: Signed with the Timbers after the Under 21 World Cup that saw the Junior Stars eliminated before the knockout stages for the first time.
15 Chris Thomas: Even though he's on the wrong side of 30, still has a lot of pace in his legs and can score goals with the best forwards in the league.
28 Donnie Lawrence: He's known as a sparkplug for this team and scored nine goals in limited playing time.

Black headline for football match as writer too lazy to type colour commands.
Whilst Earlsford are flying high in the champions league, Backstaffen United are facing foreign competition less well. Playing against............that foreign team which is impossible for anyone whose language developed at all over the past few millenia to pronounce............they were subdued and given a shake as to the class of these teams.
Upon hearing of their rivals success they went into the match thinking all would be easy. The opposition responded to this by slotting in 2 goals early in the game. Backstaffen, realising that this match would be a tough one, stepped up a gear for the remainder of the game but were still barely a match for the opposition.
They played to the best of their abilities, even scoring soon after half-time. But it wasn't enough to pull back the deficit. The team will be under a heavy barrage of insults from the Earlsford camp after this, but all they can do is hope for a better result in the next match.

GANN Sports Desk: ~ Day one begins with two good showings by the Gaian Republic Teams in the NSFA Cup.
Hevenaii Intracella managed to topple convincingly the strong Portland Timbers 2 - 0 off of swift first half goals at the 17th minute by Neece Linuado, and an assist header from MF Arthur Satiesh to Striker Jayce Bijl, both clipping down a stunned Timber's Keeper Troy Perkins. The second half was a game of holding the Timbers back and keeping the points spread, though a near breakaway by Tech Forward Jayce Bijl at the 73rd minute nearly extended even that.
The Angel Core match was a more reserved affair, as only a 66th minute goal by Sentinels Striker Kell Johnson off of a bad pass by the Blaupunkt Defense allowed a 1-0 goal througn an otherwise nonporus Defense. The Sentinel Defense was well stiffiling in their semi-strange 4-3-3 Defense pattern, keeping the Leve offense off balance.
With the NSFA Campaign beginning, the outlooks strong for the first timers, though Republic experts hinted that the teams may suprise many, with the vast schedules and tough training the football teams in the Republic endure each eason.
"When the national team did their thing in CoH XIII, it made everyone here at home want to give it their all even more. Now we have more teams gaining recognition." Spoke a stoked Coach Sandoval Masaki who was more than happy to win in front of his home crowd today.
MD2 promisses more of the same as the NSFA teams gear up for the long haul.

Cornellby's Wins First Inter-Nation Club Match for decades
Wed, Sept 3
The last time Cornellby showed up for an internationstate match they were unimpressive, bowing out early in the first champions league tournament.
Although the NSFA cup lacks the prestige of that cup, its the best that a disappointing Cornellby side could hope for. As was this performance.
Hallad Reavers, one of Starblaydia's also-rans in the battle for the 'blaydi title, were the hosts and were unlucky to take nothing from the game.
2-0 up after thirty minutes after an impressive home display, Cornellby managed to pull one back just before half time through a speculative twenty-yard effort from Audioslavia international Pierre Cesare.
Cornellby mounted an impressive comeback, scoring again on fifty minutes, this time through an Alec Bull penalty.
City then took the lead through Kelly Torrini and looked to be in control, before Hallad Reavers scored with their first attack of the half and regained the initiative as Cornellby started to make mistakes.
The match looked set for a deserved three-all draw when a long-range hit and hope effort from Cesare was misjudged by the Reavers keeper, who let the ball drop over his head and into the goal.
A flukey goal, but a goal nonetheless, and Cornellby get off to a winning start.

Struck Down
Unhappy start for Ward's mob
Wed, Sept 10
Caylerden City were well beaten by a skilfull Strike F.C. yesterday.
Despite having some well known names in defence, the rest of the team looked noticeably average against the Vilitans. Strike were unlucky not to take top spot, and a place in the Champions League, after finishing third only to goal difference behind second placed Yeaddin Owls, and just a point behind the champions Marine Coast.
Rhianna Peters - statistically the fourth best, and fourth highest scorer, in the Vilitan Stellar Division - was the thorn in Caylerden's side from the off, heading in a Kecker cross past Audioslavia goalkeeper Gabe Celta.
By half time Peters had scored and made another, hitting a volley home after half an hour, just after playing a through-ball for DuPont to flick past Celta.
Caylerden's fight-back in the second half was short and mostly unsuccesful, although it did produce a goal from the Lemmitanian Lemton Lemsip, who finished off a well-played move between himself, Liam O`Grady and Seth Balfour.
By the end of the game however, there was no mistaking the better team.

If theres anything that can be said about the Cornellby-Avidia match its that the way Avidia dominated the game was disappointing. The Krytenian league runners-up were swift in their demolishon of the 'slavian cup-finalists who never got a look in.
Like in the Caylerden game the day before, the damage was done in the first half. Avidia came out fighting, infinitely more hungry than City, and scored within ten minutes as their big number five converted a corner with a bullet header.
Avidia City were two ahead just after the half-hour, this time the goal came from a winger, scything past Phelan and curving the ball delightfully past Gabe Celta.

Nicksia Knights
Coach: Ben Cartwright
ROSTER (starters in bold)
GOALKEEPERS
1 Len Crosby (23): Recently traded over from the Tacoma Tigers, Crosby won a starting job for the Knights and led the team to a rare playoff appearance.
30 Peter Howard (34): Took his demotion to second-choice goalkeeper with dignity and has helped Crosby get acclimated to his new role.
DEFENDERS
2 Travis Benoit (24): Speedy defender known for giving full effort in every practice or match. Can get a little card happy.
8 Jon Presley (27): Had the best season of an up-and-down career with the Knights, taking to his new role as a left halfback in a 4-4-2 like he was born to play the position.
13 Geoff Carson (29): The slowest of the starting back four, Carson makes up for lack of speed with great quickness and pitch awareness.
15 Brian Willingham (26): Best defender at getting into position and has a knack for anticipating a through ball with the best of them.
18 Lloyd Davis (30): Provides veteran depth for a team that doesn't have much. Scored four goals in a five year (288 game) career.
24 Bill Tankersley (20): Youngest player on the team, he is here purely for the experience of being in an international club competition.
MIDFIELDERS
3 Marty Clark (25): With his short stature (5'6", 167), he is all heart and determination. Can get under the skin of any playmaking midfielder.
7 Chris Masters (28): Team captain. Deadly left boot led to a team high 12 goals in his 27 games played. Is feared when he lines up for set pieces.
10 Mark Lewis (27): Lewis is the best playmaker the Knights have, leading the team with 19 assists, one off the league lead and three off the franchise record. He also has eight goals. Played all 32 games.
11 Joseph Spencer (31): He has the fastest shot on the Knights, but poor control often leads to his shooting high or wide. Scored six goals in 29 games.
12 Steve Howell (24): A torn ACL robbed him of his junior year at Joe Gibbs University, and he spent his senior year working back into form. Struggled with a lack of playing time.
14 Tom Jordan (25): An argument with Cartwright cost him a starting spot on the team and it took half the season before he even appeared for the Knights. He has made it known he wants out.
FORWARD
16 Brad Herrera (28): Came back from three year absence due to military training to post nine goals in 15 games. His educated right boot helped the resurgence of the Knights into the playoffs.
23 Mike Rowe (21): The second youngest member of the team, Rowe joined the team after graduating a semester early from the University of Syosset. Rowe scored 11 goals in his 19 games after sitting on the bench the first 13.
21 Raul Gomez (27): Started the first 18 games before being brought on as a substitute and scored a total of 10 goals last season after scoring a team high 27 two years ago.
26 Jesse Markbright (23): A converted midfielder, he scored five goals as a supersub and spot starter for the Knights. He's considered a penalty kick ace.

Knights on a roll in NSFA
The Nicksia Knights have never been known as a hugely successful franchise in the Sarzonian Football Confederation, only making the playoffs three times in league history, but their most successful season led them to be invited to the NSFA Cup. Someone forgot to tell the Knights they weren't supposed to succeed.
Nicksia has won both its matches by 1-0 scorelines, with one win coming at the Round Table in Nicksia and the other coming away to Orean. The Knights have gotten both goals from forward Mike Rowe and goalkeeper Len Crosby turned aside 11 shots in the two matches.
"We've just gotten the bounces when we've needed them," Coach Ben Cartwright said. "We've been a little bit lucky so far."
"We still have a long way to go before we get excited," midfielder and team captain Chris Masters said. "This isn't over by a long shot. We've got six more [qualifying] matches."

GANN Sports Desk: ~ With a quiet day for Angel Core, the Techs took the field to take down Backstaffen today 2 - 1 off of goals from Neece Linuado (32) and Galatea Morisato (56) though the point spread took a hit at the 77th minute as Keeper Fedrick Bradford failed to swipe away a header in time.
However the team feels their form getting better and team health is looking good. The only other blemish on the match for the Techs was a yellow on Jalestar Artesti, as the midfielder made a poor tackle on a United Midfilder, garnering an ugly tounge lashing from Coach Sandoval Masaki. Despite this, there are no changes to the lineup expected.
Meanwhile the Techs still look good sitting on top, as do the Sentinels even with two match days and only one match played for the Sentinels. Outlook at present is still good.

Harewood Struck Down
Jungle Strike Runs Away With Group Six
In the first match of the NSFA Cup for Streetian teams, Harewood FC went through a disappointing 0-1 loss to Strike FC of Vilita, ruing their lack of good strikers and an inability to put the ball in behind Jimmy Kater. At their home ground, their avid supporters were to see chance after chance produced by a good midfield - led by Philip McLavish, who himself wasted three chances but gave plenty of exquisite crosses to weigh up - and the Harewood citizens got more and more frustrated with every waste of a chance from Saggers.
Biding their time, Strike took over the match slowly but surely, 35-year-old Umberto Melli commanded the midfield along with even more venerable Santo Kecker, and the two combined for a beautiful passing play before crossing the ball in to Rhianna Peters, who just before half time slotted the ball in - 1-0 to Strike FC, and the crowd groaned in frustration.
Despite a barrage of shots from the McLavishes and Daggerbasher, Harewood could not get past an exquisite Jimmy Kater, and the match petered out to a bore 0-1 loss. Harewood now needs to upset either the Bedistani team Esto Wanderers or Audioslavian star keeper Gabriel Celta, who's a regular for Caylerden City. Meanwhile, Rhianna Peters added another two goals to her tally in the match with Caylerden, allowing her to become one of the top scorers of the NSFA Cup with three goals so far.

United lose again. Completely outclassed.
Backstaffen United once more took to thje field to face the Techs from the Gaian Ascendancy. With a goal in the first half and another just before the hour for the Techs it wasn't looking good for United. A late scrappy header by Apple was all the comeback they could muster, and it atleast prevented to goal difference tally climbing significantly.
The goal was just reward for Apple who had scuffed a freekick earlier in the game after a poorly timed tackle from the Techs Artesti. Apple isn't injured to any great degree and will most likely be available for the next match, though he may start from the bench.

LLLLLLLLLLOVELLLLLLLLY START!
By Bill Posters
One would be forgiven why teams from the Druidish lands ever bother entering international club competitions. As far as I remember, they've struggled to win so much as a single tie in the past, the worst one of which being Parkville's first ever exit with the introduction of 'popular' Abysmal referee Gurg.
But all that appears to be changing. Eleven men from the Anwir Cymru are showing the rest of Druida how it should be done. After finishing third in DruidLeague season four, Llllllllllcwllllllll Rovers were given a place in the new NSFA Cup. And, so far, they've not done bad. Two wins out of two is impressive in anyone's book, especially a Druidan club's.
The stars of the team so far have been the young Jones brothers, Dai, Trevor and Liam. A 2-1 win over Backstaffen United has been followed up with a 1-0 win against Township in Chicanada, and they worked brilliantly together throughout.
However, while this is promising, there are still two games for the Daffodils to go. Games against teams from Gaian Ascendancy and Sarzonia will challenge them further, but so far, it's been a case of keeping up with the Jones's.

Peters off to Rocket Start
------------------Strike FC's Rhianna Peters, a native of Cockbill Street, has taken center stage in the Lonngeylin, Vilita clubs impressive start in the first stage of the NSFA Cup. After bagging a pair of goals against Audioslavia's Caylerden City, Peters struck the lone goal in the match against Harewood FC, one of the most well known clubs from back in Cockbill Street, and one of the pre-tournament favorites. Strike's early performances have solidified them as one of the teams to beat in the competition.
------------------Arcticala Inlet, the other Vilitan team competing in the NSFA cup, also got off to a winning start against Zlakmunj, although it is not known where this team originates. The Inlet are in a group consisting of just 4 teams, however, and had Matchday 2 off to collect their thoughts and prepare for the long haul where they too hope to be in the final reckoning when the NSFA Cup champions are crowned.

Cesare Seals Starblaydi Double
Montepool Waves Beat by Solitary Goal
Wed Sept 17th
After beating the Starblaydian team Hallad Reavers on the opening day, Cornellby dispatched the other 'blaydi team Montepool Waves 1-0 to put City in pole position.
Bouncing back after a bitterly disappointing loss to Avidia City, Cornellby were solid, holding their defence firm and creating good oppotunities up front.
Pierre Cesare scored the games only goal just after half-time, pouncing on a Torrini through-ball and sticking it low past the keeper. Final score: Cornellby 1, Montepool 0.

Montepool Waves 3 1 0 2 3-3 3

The result puts City on top of the group, although the two teams below them - Krytenia's Avidia City and Raptor Claw's North Island Clan - each have a game in hand.
Caylerden Come Good
Bedistan High-Flyers Downed On Their Own Ground
Thu Sept 18th
After being royally out-played against Strike F.C. last week and being ridiculed in the press for being woefully sub-par in comparison to the foreigners, Caylerden City had something to prove against the powerful Bedistani side Esto Wanderers.
Things didn't look good when Esto took the lead through the number nine on twenty minutes, but a fightback and a Liam O`Grady goal levelled things up at half-time.
The second half was where Caylerden really excelled, playing like the home side and taking the game to Esto.
O`Grady came close again, before Seth Balfour put Caylerden into the lead on the hour mark, smashing a loose ball home past a helpless Esto goalkeeper.
Despite fierce pressure in the final minutes, Caylerden City held on to take their first ever victory in inter-nation football. Final Score: Esto Wanderers 1, Caylerden City 2.
Group 6 P W D L GF-GA Pts
Strike FC 2 2 0 0 4-1 6
Caylerden City F.C. 2 1 0 1 3-4 3
Esto Wanderers 1 0 0 1 1-2 0
Harewood FC 1 0 0 1 0-1 0
Caylerden go into second, but with Esto and Harewood both have games in hand, and should either side get a victory from their game with each other than Caylerden will be relegated to third.

GANN Sports Desk: ~ Day 3 is becoming a tale of the Tech's dominance, as another 2-1 victory, this time over the Llllllllllcwllllllll Rovers with two goals (26, 55) off of rising star Neece Linuado, and nearly a hat trick off a botched Rovers defensive play that Linuado only missed by bad luck of the goal bar. Techs Keeper Fedrick Bradford again allowed a late goal in the 61st minute off a penalty, and as a result, Coach Masaki really let into his defensive players, even though no yellow was recorded this time.
However Midfielder Ranier McKenna had to leave the pitch at the 54th minute mark, due to a pulled muscle in his leg. His replacement Arthur Kerensky finished the game, and it looks like Kerensky will get the call for one additional match while Med-techs work McKenna over for a day.
Meanwhile, the Sentinels had to sit a second day, and as a result, watch as their first place standing was lost off of goals, which made the team angry at league organizers about scheduling. This was more actually a ploy to get team spirit charged up as they expect to play tomorrow, with the team playing a full practice simulation match today, to keep in form.
"We're riding a good wave here, and we intend to keep using it for as long as luck and the lady goddess allows." ..said Tech coach Masaki to onfield reporters. "And yes, I used lots of colorful language with my tirade today during the match."

Score tripped up in Seaport
The CFF-Challenging AS Risa had hoped a home match against Charleston FC would jump start their NSFA Cup dreams but instead became a crashing 2-0 defeat in their opening game of qualifying.

Charleston FC 2 1 0 1 2-1 3
Angel Core Sentinels 1 1 0 0 1-0 3
Blaupunkt Leve 2 1 0 1 1-1 3
AS Risa 1 0 0 1 0-2 0
The Bedistani team played some very tight defense and shored up more holes than the Score had expected, and AS foreward Gora Hoj said after the match that the 4-3-3 strategy just did not hold up as well as they had expected.
Surprisingly, AS Risa agreed to a postponement of a match with Bishop FC tonight, rather deciding to work out with Douala Field Strategist Ybori Langton to come up with a less spread approach for the team to utilize. They will face the Saints next week in a makeup date which may end up being a doubleheader for both teams due to CL/NSFA qualifying.

Likh'gokh Crash
Both Streetian Teams In Big Spot of Bother
With a dismal performance at home to Spraat FC (of Fmjphoenix, of all nations), Likh'gokh K'druz'ba are suddenly struggling to get through from the first round of the NSFA Cup, joining Harewood as a disappointment so far. Of course, there's still five matches to go, but both teams have put themselves in tricky positions before the last games.
The match in Likh'gokh was a dismal affair for both team's fans, as Spraat scored two early goals - one for each of their strikers - and employed extreme Karela-tactics for the rest of the game. Likh'gokh never looked like being able to break through, as Syku Lyku and Barry Alphonso just stood inside the Spraat five-back line waiting for a pass to come - that never was.
On the fourth matchday, Likh'gokh takes on Vilitan side Arcticala Inlet - in because nobody else wanted to - while Harewood travel to Bedistan to play Esto Wanderers, a team that lost their first match by 2-1 to Caylerden City. Both teams need victories if they want to stay in the running in their respective groups.

United find their footing.
After a start for Backstaffen which made them the object of ridicule both by international teams and especially the high-flying Rangers, United have finally made an impression. Portland Timbers found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-1 drubbing.
Casper Johnson played a magnificant match, stopping shot after shot in a match which could easily have finished 6-6. The Timbers goal came midway through the second half, whilst FLP were already 4-0 up. It was a cracking shot from the edge of the area and even Johnson couldn't reach it as it curled in.
Backstaffens goals were, however, much more scrappy. The exception to this was Fullers goal on 32 minutes, the first of 2. After a marvellous tackle by Davids to halt a Timbers offence the ball was lofted up the field to the chest of Fuller. He quickly charged the pitch, passing 3 defenders, before slotting the ball comfortably into te bottom right corner.
Right Back Langdon was fouled early in the second half, with youngster Goth coming on to replace him. He played well, assisting Staff in Uniteds fifth goal with an excellent cross. He should be playing atleast the next game, as Langden is not likely to be back too soon.

GANN Sports Desk: ~ The Techs finally hit a wall heading into an off day, and the Sentinels finally get to play again, and take out their frustrations on AS Risa.
The Techs play at Township, and their overconfidence got the better of them as they failed to apparently show up, as is the adage of old. As a result, goals at the 23rd, and then a more morale depressing 48th minute goal past a sleeping Fedrick Bradford. The offense even seemed to sputter, falling victim to their previous three days.
"We flat blew it." Coach Sandoval Masaki only said to reporters over and over, well miffed at his team's play, and later in their locker room, words flowed out that would make angels cringe.
Meanwhile, the opposite occurred with the Sentinels, having to wait two days to play again and beginning to get edgy, they took that anger to the field against AS Risa, and throttled them with goals at the 34th, and then after a tying goal at the 55th minute, the Sentinels rupture the Risa defenders a minute later for the 56th minute morale killer, making for two goals on the day for Dalaa Grend. After that, the Sentinel Defense became stifling, even nearly too rough at times as it seemed Angel Core played 'anything' like angels.
"I'm sorry for our play, but when we have to wait two whole days to play another match, dang it, we act like our Mechwarriors who have to wait on long Jump trips to see action.
Maybe it's our genes talking." ..said Striker Dalaa Grend, commenting on the long wait.
The Techs meanwhile have a day off, and will use it to remind themselves of the snafu today, while the Sentinels look to take more meat out of Charleston FC.

Giant Zucchini
11-04-2005, 11:33
NEWSFLASH:
Piemont FC made Gauralan sweat as they held on to a draw in Piemont. Verdi put the home side ahead after nine minutes with a sweet volley into the far corner but Piemont then allowed Gauralan back into the game.
The Progressan side took the invitation with a deflected shot bringing the away side level after 39 minutes and then grabbing a deserved second after 64 minutes.
But like Piemont in the first half, Gauralan relaxed and were punished as Argenti brought the visitors level again with a close range header after 78 minutes.
The Piemont coach promised to bring a strong squad capable of making a fight of it, and for the first half an hour Piemont appeared to be the only side in it.
Siroko fired a deep cross over from the right which skimmed off the head of a defender and on to Verdi's left foot, and the Zucchini didn't hesitate before striking a sweet shot past the keeper into the far corner.
But Piemont took their foot off the pedal slightly and allowed the away side to grow in confidence with the support becoming increasingly vocal.
Gauralan threatened an equaliser before a stroke of luck helped a shot deflect wickedly and past Zif.
The goal gave Gauralan a huge lift and they almost grabbed a second just before the break before firing a shot wide of Zif's goal.
The away side believed they had gone ahead just before the hour mark when a cleverly-worked free-kick saw Gauralan head home at the second attempt after striking the bar with his first header, but a late offside flag ruled out the goal.
The home side didn't have to wait too long before finally taking the lead their play had deserved. They once again found plenty of room inside the Piemont area in the 64th minute, and this time they made no mistake, shooting across Zif and into the bottom corner.
Braztoma almost grabbed an immediate reply with a speculative volley from 20 yards which missed the left-hand post by inches.
Piemont's attacking strength makes it hard for any team to be comfortable with just a one-goal advantage, and Argenti punished some disorganised defending by heading the hame side level with 12 minutes remaining.
Substitutes Reipo and Tormeno combined with the latter providing the cross for Argenti to power home a header unchallenged from six yards out.

Backstaffen challenging at last.
United impressed their fans once more as they beat a lackluster Township side by 2 goals to 1. The performance, one of their best to date, was marred by a yellow card to Fuller which resulted in an amazing set-piece move by Township.
Despite recording 2 straight losses at the start of the tournament Backstaffen have found themselves as top scorers in the cup. If they can keep up this kind of form a second round appearence may be on offer, though the manager has once more warned the team to concentrate on winning these matches first and foremost.

Likh'gokh Still Without Goals
Harewood Find Going Tough in 'Slavia
Likh'gokh K'druz'ba plummeted to a dismal 0-0 draw with Stumperian side Zlakmunj as they significantly reduced any chance of progressing to the second round of the NSFA Cup competition. Despite a significant degree of pressure and possession, the team never actually managed to convert that into goal-scoring chances, and the dwarf team from Likh'gokh were downbeat afterwards.
"We know we can play well," striker Barry Alphonso said after the game, "but it just ain't coming together in front of goal. That was a key match for us, and we really got to start winning now - so it's time to get some of those scorinators out of NS World Cup and bribe them."
Meanwhile, Harewood FC also had a crunch match against Audioslavian side Caylerden City. With young talent Ronan Faulder dominating the midfield, Harewood never got the ball to roll the way they should, and yet again Saggers wasted a lot of chances. After twenty-five minutes, Balfour made an exquisite cross that Lemton Lemsip converted easily for a 0-1 goal behind van Oosterom.
Ten minutes later on in the half, Ronan Faulder - indubitably Man of the Match - sent a banana into the top corner from 25 yards, a stunning goal that had the home crowd erupting in glee. 2-0, and Caylerden looked comfortably into the second round. Despite a good rally in the second half, the ball just wouldn't go in until three minutes from time, when Phil McLavish notched up the 1-2 goal by heading in a corner kick from Fearinciter. With that 1-2 loss, Harewood are struggling in the group, trailing Strike FC by 4 points after three of the six games. Likh'gokh are even worse, having only one point, four goals against, and no goals for. They need to take at least seven, probably nine, of the remaining points to have any chance of qualification.
Interestingly, though, it is possible - Backstaffen United of Fimble loving peoples had a terrible start but bounced back with an impressive 6-1 home win and followed up today with a 1-2 away win over the Chicanadan Township, placing United in third place in Group 4. Otherwise, it's just Liverpool England club Alnwick Torpedo that looks given for a second round berth.

DRUIDAN PEOPLE TURN ON INTERNATIONAL CLUB FOOTBALL
By Bill Posters
Druidan fans are turning of DruidSport's coverage of the Champion's League and NSFA Cup in their droves as they are forced to sit through absolute boredom.
So far, it had only been the Champion's League sides Parkville and Cranbury United who had bored fans to death. But know, it seems, our NSFA Cup teams are getting in on the act too! Llllllllllcwllllllll Rovers drew a blank in Sarzonia against Portland Timbers, whilst Druid Tribune, who are famed for the attacking play of Druida's first choice strike partnership of Montenegro and Deffynddiwch back home, played out a 0-0 against Zimbru Ts'khinvali of South Osettia.
"It's like watching Rejistanian football week after week," said one disgruntled Tribune fan after their game. "If our league was like this, I'd start watching some other sport like cricket or rugby or... hell, maybe even ice hockey."
Upon this final statement, the fan was sent to the Mentally Affected Druids House until he admitted that ice hockey is, and always will be, a very small minority sport in Druida.

GANN Sports Desk: ~ "We nearly had them, but you don't play at this level without solid players, and that save at the end kept them in the series. We can live with the draw."
...said a dejected sounding Kell Johnson after the match.
With the day off for the Techs, the Sentinels took center stage and looked somewhat off in front of the crowd in Charleston FC. Apparently the match yesterday against AS Risa took more spirit from the Sentinels than they realized, and they played a more lackluster second half as a result. This caught up with them after their 33rd minute goal by Dannar Tenkawa, when the second half showed the Sentinels having trouble keeping focused.
That killed them in the 66th minute as a FC attack down the left caught the Sentinel Defense napping, and a strong shot from long range even caught Keeper Dave Kanto napping when he reacted to the shot too late. However it did pick the Sentinel team to be more light footed off the pitch and up to the 85th minute the team kept FC off balance, which led to the heartbreaker event of the match.
Sentinel Striker Kell Johnson managed to fight off an FC Defender and get the ball with a near open attempt at the net, and managed a very strong kick that 'should' have gone in. But at the last second, the FC Keeper manages a twisting hander to hit the ball just enough and onto the goalbar and away, with an angle that could have gone either way in or out of the net. Luck wasn't for the Sentinels this day however.
"We need to calm down and look at the picture from a less emotional persepctive. But no thanks to the scheduling, our form is having trouble falling place. But we'll be ready for the next match. That near miss will get us more dynamic." ...Coach Sten Kerensky mentioned.

GANN Sports Desk: ~ *Throngs of cheering Gaian crowds having fun from all over the Republic in Angel Core Stadium today.*
The headliner says it all as Gaians clammor to see their famed Republic teams play on, with all four teams sitting at the top of their Group's respective spotlights. Here the emotions run higher, and every goal felt either way is that much more special, and that much more antagonizing. The fan's reactions say the complete cornucopia of these emotions, along with 'appropriate' language at times.
The Techs come back and back in strong form against a group rematch with Portland Timbers, as they nip them in the 49th minute off a brilliant set piece knee assist off from Neece Linuado, and finished off by Teta Linuado. With the win, the Techs reassert dominance over Group 4, and this time the team is far more focused to finish the job.
The Sentinels however took a hard hit today, losing two-nil off a suprise showing from Blaupunkt Leve, however the loss only puts them still a point ahead of Blaupunkt Leve and the Sentinels show to be resilient with their next match.
"It was wierd.." ..a foreign reporter with a camera crew said.. "..every time we passed by the stands, the crowds actually went into song 'chants' of "Hello Mom..."
..it was wierd I tell you."

Cornellby Bounce Back from MD2 Defeat
A well-won 2-1 victory away to Avidia City put Cornellby on top of group C with just two games to go. Two points from these games would qualify Cornellby.
Cornellby surged ahead early through a Kelly Torrini long-range effort, but by half time Avidia had equalised through a ranged effort from their own winger.
Avidia looked like they were controlling the match, but a breakaway Karayan Araxie goal put Cornellby into a wildly undeserved lead, which they were to take through to the final whistle.

2-5 Thumping Keeps CC In Second
A five-star perforance from Vilita's Jungle Strike F.C. swept the Audioslavian third-placers aside last night. Strike were three ahead by the break before Nate Firth pulled one back for Caylerden. However that couln't stop Strike extending their lead through Serge DuPont, and adding a fifth through Rejistanian centre-half Kadu Hsen.
O`Grady's consolation goal in the final minute couldn't save the Audioslavian's blushes, and they now have to face the rest of the group to defend their precocious three-point advantage in second place.

With two matches to go, both Audioslavian clubs look to be in a very good position to qualify. Cornellby require just two points from two games, or for Montepool Waves to slip up. Caylerden look to have things a little bit harder, but if they can get two draws as well, against Harewood and Esto, then theyre also certain to qualify.

United hold back mighty Techs.
Backstaffen United kept up their recent surge today as they held the high-flying Techs to a one all draw. It wasn't plain sailing however and United were lucky to get the result.
The Techs opened the scoring early, with a great move by two forwards. In response, Backstaffen brought on Goth for Tamworth, who wasn't looking his usual self, to give a 5-3-2 formation. This seemed to hold back the Techs as they bombarded the defence with dazzling runs which were halted by great play from the defence.
In the second half United still looked to be the worst of the two sides, but managed a 76th minute equaliser through Staff. The techs tried to combat this but found the defence to always be there. They will be disappointed to only come away with a draw. Backstaffen meanwhile are very pleased.
With a resurgent Township beating the Druidan team Backstaffen keep second place in the group. Hopes are high for the team.
Kaze Progressa
13-04-2005, 20:49
The damage done to Progressan sport during the civil war is showing in the most painful way on return to the international fold. Seven games between Doori and Gauralan in this NSFA Cup, and a mere five points between the teams to show for it.
A 2-1 defeat at home to AFC Avidia - who had gained but one point in three before then - was the last straw for Gauralan manager Jaulinta Puthu-Muila, who left the club with immediate effect. 'I feel this club is tainted by the virtual absence of the once-glorious Progressan sporting scene during the civil war, and I feel helpless in its revival,' he said in a press conference at the Westside Stadium, one of only seven in the country not to be damaged in some form during the war. Thirteen, including the WC12 venues of the Warpnet Arena in Nortenai and the Sunshine Arena in Fildi, were destroyed by sport-hating rebels who were on the brink of taking over the country.
Another of those thirteen was the Doorina in Doori, home to the team that bears the city's name. Owing to the city's strategic position - the easternmost point in the country, prominently stretching across a headland and two bays which were once significant ports - it was a clear target. While the rebels made little further progress in the east, Doori was devastated. The city has been virtually rebuilt, complete with a new stadium. Tellingly, it is far smaller than the Doorina; the Doori Renaissance Arena seats just 28,000 people. What is more, it has never sold out in its short history.
Somehow, here in Doori, you sensed that really, the rebels did win.]
And then came the match with Moirax. Watched by 24,218 people, it was a thriller, Doori emerging 2-0 winners with Aritona Kioa scoring both goals. Kioa was 17 on the eve of this match. He is seen as the future of Progressan football - maybe, just maybe, a name to put alongside Irafma, Luvo and the other names of a golden era. He is the only member of his family to have survived the war, and lives in a specially-built centre with other such orphaned children. In true Progressan style, it is partly built from recycled rubble from war-destroyed buildings.
Maybe this country isn't dead after all.
OOC: rather long, rambling and not-football post, but oh well...

Mid-Tourney Report: Score Progess
AS Risa still appears to be on the outside looking in in it's quest to make the next round of the NSFA Cup.
Group 8 P W D L GF-GA Pts
Angel Core Sentinels 4 2 1 1 4-4 7
Blaupunkt Leve 5 2 1 2 3-4 7
Charleston FC 4 1 2 1 3-2 5
AS Risa 3 1 0 2 4-4 3
AS Risa has played what is indeed some interesting footy, for even while dropping matches to Angel Core and Charleston at home they are still even in record and have some hopes for advancement.
The biggest challenge for AS Risa, besides getting more open shots for its forewards, is going to be the road, which the Score hasn't played on just yet. Goin 1-0-2 at home is seen by the Club Managment as disasterous, considering Risa is one of the better CFF squads at home, but going 1-0-2 on the road would completely eliminate the squad from the NSFA.
The Score head off to Bedistan with a match against Charleston FC scheduled for tommorow night. Risa will be looking to avenge a 2-0 beatdown by Charleston down in Seaport last week, but even the team is uncertain if it can pull out the needed victory to keep its NS hopes alive.

Nothing like taking an easy victory at home, we always say.
Township played with determiniation and was quick to score as the Stallions ran away with a 4-0 victory over the Druida-based Llllllllllcwllllllll Rovers tonight in West Douala. It was a nice victory for the Stallions, as they recouped after dropping 1-0 to the Rovers in Druida last week.
The victory brings the team to 2-0-3 in play and one point behind the Rovers and four behind Backstaffen United from the Fimble loving peoples.
Next up for Township, besides a friendly with AS Bishop County of CanaLiga is a match with Portland Timbers from Sarzonia. The match will be tommorow afternoon (3000 CST) at West Douala.

GANN Sports Desk: ~ Despite anything else, the Techs have shown their mettle even as niewbies to the NSFA series. With the Sentinels having to hold off for two days, NSFA eyes turn to the Techs, as fans continue to swell in force for the continuing glory they shine with.
A draw match with Backstaffen closed things up again, but the lead was still solid, off an early goal from Tech Striker Galatea Morisato despite the United Defense being more stiff. However United pulled it in more, and managed a set piece corner goal in the 68th minute to grab the even stance. However neither side allowed more and the Techs had to live with that draw.
The Techs made that up with Galatea Morisato getting two more against Llllllllllcwllllllll Rovers though yet another set piece corner all but a mirror of the previous match made the score closer than what it was. The Techs know that with the 2 - 1 win, they stand tallest at the moment, and a diamond strength confidence runs deep through the team.
"I believe we have one more match against Township, and we have payback waiting for them. Either way we've got this Group in the bag, and we want more now." ..said a very confident Tech Coach Sandoval. "..but I suspect the danger will be for the teams still to face the Sentinels. I doubt they want to miss out on what we just gained. In fact I talked to Coach Sten (Kerensky) before today's win.
..he said he feels sorry for the two remaining opponents they're facing."

Piemont in good chance to advance while Navara crash out
Piemont's 2-1 win over Treller Town puts them in a satisfactory position to qualify past the group stage. Now, 3 of the 4 teams in the group are tied at 7 points, including Piemont. Piemont would wish that they will finish with a string of good results and hopefully a spot into the next round.

Harewood Clutch At Last Straw
Likh'gokh Fail To Score Again
With a key home victory over Bedistan's Esto Wanderers, Harewood FC keeps the Streetian flame alive in the NSFA Cup. After a dismal start and a home loss to Strike FC of Vilita, they were trailing Caylerden City in second place by three points, and desperately needed the victory.
It was a close, fighting game from both sides, with plenty of chances at either end, and the difference on the day was Harewood's keeper van Oosterom playing an excellent game. He kept out everything except a penalty with five minutes left to play, and that really wasn't so important.
What was important was the way they won it in the first half, though. After scoring a goal on a free-kick through McLavish, the team pushed on, and created many chances. Granted, they relied on van Oosterom to save everything, but when Eric Saggers made it 2-0 just before half time, the Harewood inhabitants could breathe out.
Harewood still have a tricky home tie with Caylerden City, in which they need a draw at best to proceed, but they were given unexpected help on the last matchday when City were upended 0-1 by Esto Wanderers. Without that loss, Caylerden would have been huge favourites, but as it stands Harewood could be the only Streetian team to progress to the second round of the NSFA Cup.
Meanwhile, Likh'gokh K'druz'ba had an array of chances away at Arcticala Inlet, but - as has been their plight this NSFA season - they failed to score. The match ended in 0-0 despite 80 minutes of barraging on the door from Likh'gokh, as Barry Alphonso and Syku Lyku for once got the passes they wanted - only to squander them against a magnificent keeper in Triston Bolen.
O'Neill Nerderburgh, apparently a Streetian (with that name, we doubt it) will thus qualify for the second round from this group, while Likh'gokh - the team with high hopes before this tournament - will have to go on to smaller things in the Compound League.

Backstaffen into second round.
After a shaky start United found their form and have moved into the next round of the NSFA cup. Portland Timbers were the team who allowed this to happen as they lost 2-1 in a very close match.
United pushed ahead at first with a solid Fuller goal. Nothing fancy, just a knock in. Portland were quick to respond however and the match remained deadlocked until the 85th minute.
At this point Fuller ran almost the entire pitch before taking his second of the game.

Vilitan clubs top groups
----------------------Strike FC led the way despite a 0-0 draw with Esto Wanderers to double their competition on the way to a place in the next round of the NSFA Cup. Strike finished with an unbeaten groupstage record, and 14 points to come out double their closest Group 6 competition. Strike are considered one of the favorites in the cup and their first round performance only solidifies this labelling. However, the always formidible Harewood FC also edged into the next round, and along with Cornellby City F.C.could also be considered top bets to reach the final matchups.
----------------------Meanwhile, a 2-0 win over Spraat FC clinched Arcticala Inlet's spot in the next round. The Inlet have been using an experimental lineup after some off season reshuffling, and some had thought they would struggle even with the first round of competition. But the 3 time Vilitan Cup champions proved their critics otherwise, and will be looking to impress from the role of underdog as the competition moves forward.

Score Sneaks Into FA Second Round
AS Risa still appears to be on the outside looking in in it's quest to make the next round of the NSFA Cup.

AS Risa 6 3 0 3 9-6 9
Blaupunkt Leve 6 2 1 3 4-6 7
Charleston FC 6 1 3 2 3-5 6
At the halfway point, AS Risa looked dead in the water but riding a 2-0-1 record on the road helps lead the Score into the Second Round of the NSFA Cup - which does nothing but shock CFF pundits who thought they were too weak in their midfield to pull it off.
Rallying after a disappointing 1-0 loss in the Gaian Assendancy to Angel Core, the Score decided to make a move by knocking down Blaupunkt Leve 2-1 today to push the team into second place. Backup Foreward Fin Squinerson was the main man of the match, as the Guy from the northeastern town of Akalou scored both goals to lead the Score on.
No reports yet on who they face in the second round just yet, but expect information as soon as we hear it.

The Stallions had high hopes of qualifying for the second round of the NSFA Cup. But extremely poor play in the Gaian Assendancy and Bedistan leads Township to a fourth place finish and back to CFF Champions League play.
Goalkeeps Jilin Dumaire and Posten Ualn showed signs of rust in their matches (a 1-0 loss to Hevenaii Intracella and a 2-0 loss to Backstaffen) and the 4-2-4 setup that had been manageable in their home matches collapsed on the road, as Stallion Staff was forced to implement at 3-4-4 and a 4-4-3 strategy in both matches to no avail.
There is, of course, a silver lining to their loss. Foreward D'angelo Li continues to show signs as a future captain for the Stallions and now they can focus completely on qualifying for the CFFCL tournament.

GANN Sports Desk: ~ "It feels good to take the qualifier group, but that stuff is already over with in our minds. We don't see the qualifiers anymore...
..we see the longer road."
Coming from Coach Sandoval Masaki, it sounds a lot like words from the recent CoH XIII champs, as the two Gaian teams move on into the knock out rounds with a strong chip on their shoulders to keep proving with.
The Techs end their run with a 1 - 0 win over Township, securing the best record of the qualifiers, and suddenly hungry for more. The Sentinel meanwhile hold their own and take their group as well with 1 - 0 win over AS Risa, and then a draw with Chaleston FC to hold onto the group top spot.
"We did 'not' expect to do this well, even if we are a team that had to put up with match days off we didn't want." ..quoted Wing Defender Gray Kamiki of the Sentinels. "But when we're up here anyway, let's not sit on that result. There's still a lot to go."
Both teams now prepare to go deep into the knockout rounds, and both expect to take what they gained so far and run with it.
"It's too late to say we're noobs now." ..mentioned Neece Linuado of the Techs.

Round 2 beckons for United.
Well it could almost be a fairy tale for Backstaffen. After an abysmal start to the competition that saw them lose 2 games on the trot they've kicked into gear and are now heading to the second round as a force to be reckoned with.
The clincher came in a 2-0 win over Township. It left United just 3 points behind an unstoppable Techs side and with a record to match any other.
It wasn't a spectacular match in any way, but it was efficient. Township have become notoriously bad on the road and their goalkeepers seem a little unadjusted. With this in mind you could be forgiven for thinking Township gave Backstaffen the 3 points on a plate, but they fought hard all the way.
However when you have a forward line which seems to score goals as if a child could do it you have to think that the match may swing your way. However todays game saw none of the stunning goals which have punctuated the Backstaffen comeback, as the ball was netted with a simple rebound volley from a corner and a scrappy header which was more luck than skill.
Despite this the fans can go home happy knowing that they are every bit as much a success against foreign competition as their powerful rivals.

Strike Kick Serious Grass
---------------------Lonngeylin, Vilita based Jungle Strike FC were on the verge of a potential upset at the hands of Avidia City going into the second leg of their NSFA Cup Knockout Stage match up. Then someone decided that it was time for the Strike the world knows, respects, and fears to show up. Strike proceeded to absolutely dominate their shell-shocked opponents and cruise through with a comfortable 5-0 victory, and 5-1 aggregate tally. The two-legged tie was the first ever meeting between the highly-touted Vilitan club and their Krytenian counterparts, and Strike mad sure the Krytenians would not soon forget the day they met the pride of Lonngeylin.
---------------------Jimmy Kater had barely a save to make on the day while one of the top all time scorers in Vilitan History, Serge DuPont, made easy work of the Avidian's defense, completing his hattrick in the 73rd minute to bring his total up to 7 goals so far in the competition. Santo Kecker, however, scored the goal of the day with a 35 yard free kick that curled as if kicked by anything but a mere mortal. Cockbill Street's Rhianna Peters kept up their impressive string of goals to round off the scoring for Strike.
---------------------Strike's opponent in the Quarter Finals will be none other than Vilitan Cup runners up Arcticala Inlet, who proceeded at the expense of Progressan side Gauralan and a pair of 2-0 victories. Starblaydian Syku-Lyku Agbayani will be the player most will have their eyes on accross the tie, but none can overlook the potential of budding young Vilitan star Julian Lisbie, who has performed far above his age for Arcticala Inlet throughout the competition.
RP Of The Year Award Night
---------------------It was that time again, as the Vilitan League Season Came to a close and the World Cup Qualifiers were set to begin, the writers, contributers and trusted secondaries of the Vilita National were locked in a room with all the press releases, secret tape recordings and broken rantings from the season begone, and set off to decide the RP of the Season in many different categories, ranging from The World Cup Finals, all the way down to the Domestic Game.
---------------------This particular edition will focus on the NSFA Cup, in it's first edition after the revival of competitive internationstal club level competition through the cooperation of Kaze Progressa, Cockbill Street and Moleland. While sometimes the delegated members argue for hours on end for any particular award to be decided on, the NSFA Cup RP of the Year was one of the quickest to be settled. While there were a handful of decent candidates, the Vilita National and it's secondary reporters are proud to announce the winner of the NSFA Cup RP of the Year Award, Lovisa! The Lovisan's had tough competition throughout the tournament, but rose above the rest when delivering their most special of press anouncements, forever enshrined in this commemorative plaque:
Spraat FC - SD Borland Leve 1-2
thats very good :)
---------------------As you can see, each letter has been painstakingly engraved and gold plated to add even further to the effect of this masterful words that only the greatest of minds could produce. We look forward to yet another great year of RPing, not only from Lovisa, but maybe from some of you other nations if you can catch them! Look for more "RP Of The Year" Awards to be handed out in other competitions in the coming weeks!

A female Tech-traniee recent graduate of Marble City Collegeate, reads through the holo-screen print of the scores for the various sports tourneys in and out of the Republic.
When she sees the scores from the Second Round of NSFA, she moans over the Tech drubbing results with.. "Aw man.. there goes my lunch ticket lottery pot." ..and thunks her head on the break table.
--
GANN Sports Desk: ~ If the Techs felt good about themselves coming into the Second Round, they left feeling 'much' less so.
Cornellby City F.C. simply took it to the Techs and handed them their heads on an 1 - 3 aggregate result over two days of play. As this was the first time the Techs had been in such play, the atmosphere, and their overconfidence, on the first day, and somewhat of a panocked style of play the second day led to the end result.
A short trip home from their stadium. Needless to say the fans were not thrilled either.
The Sentinels however thrived, having scooted into the Second Round, and with Treller Town facing them, destroyed them. Are we certain it's the Blue Diamonds that are called the Destroyers?
Kell Johnson of the Sentinels led the team on two days of scoring rampaging and havoc, that left him with back to back hat tricks, Something he immediately put out of his mind to reporters after learning of their next opponent in Harewood FC
"After seeing what happened to a good Tech team, we can't get complacient either. The result will be no less if we don't take it all the way now."
The Sentinels now ready for a tough match with Harewood FC, but are now becoming determined to finish their job here.
And bring home some more hardware for the Republic.

Harewood Nigh On Exit
Tenkawa Hero At Ground
After a shaky start to their NSFA Cup campaign, Angel Core Sentinels are becoming one of the favourites to win the cup, and are now looking to beat Harewood FC of ****bill Street. Much of their work was done when Harewood threw away a good opportunity in a close match at the Harewood Ground.
Strangely enough for a match with a 2-2 scoreline, the game was ted by a lack of clinical finishing. Both sides were determined to attack, and Harewood used the middle particularly effectively - but were too often stopped by the Sentinels' brilliant keeper, Dave Kanto.
Angel Core had many chances of their own, however, and for once Ivan van Oosterom wasn't as brilliant as he normally is. Thus, when Titikama played a very nice pass through the back line, Dannar Tenkawa only had to chip it over van Oosterom for 1-0.
However, Harewood fought back. A couple of left wing raids by Niall McLavish had the Sentinels worreid, and eventually, one of them resulted in a free kick from twenty metres, which Travis Robertson curled into the top corner. One all, just before half-time.
In the second half, the Sentinels came out roaring, and probably should have had two goals after only five minutes - Kell Johnson sent one into the far post and Vidal Marik was fouled by Ivar Axehacker on his way to score a goal. However, Harewood rode off the storm, and was on their way back in the game when Tenkawa got up to head in a corner kick in the 64th minute - his second goal of the match, sending the travelling Sentinels fans into ecstacy. After that, Harewood struggled to get anything working, and they were exceedingly lucky when Niall McLavish's shot from 25 metres found its way in behind Kanto, taking a deflection of Gray Kamiki before ending up in goal.
Thus, Harewood went off their home soil with a disappointing draw, conceding two away goals to boot. Anything less than a win against the blue Sentinels in Angel Core will send Harewood out, and although a quarter-final isn't an awful result, it is somewhat below expectations for a high-flying club in one of the world's most prominent leagues.

Backstaffen pass second round quietly whilst hitting it big in quarters.
After a comeback campaign which left many startled United feared a tough test in the second round of the NSFA cup. Doori were on hand to deliver that test and Backstaffen could only manage a nil-nil draw in the first leg despite playing infront of a home crowd.
The second leg saw a late goal clinch the match, and a quarter final place, for Backstaffen. The goal came from Fuller who has impressed repeatedly since finding his stride.
Alnwick Torpedo beckoned in the quarter finals and United expected their toughest match yet.Instead the Backstaffen team left the stadium almost as much as the many thousands of Alnswick fans after United demolished them 6-1. With the second leg still to go the bookies are taking bets on Backstaffen hitting double figures for the round.

Quarter-Finals:
1st Leg - D
Harewood FC v. Angel Core Sentinels (2 - 2)
2nd Leg - W
Angel Core Sentinels v. Harewood FC (1 - 0)
(Angel Core 3-2 on aggregate)
GANN Sports Desk: ~ The ability to hold the midfield. One of the key of this game, and one the Sentinels took to heart by dominating it with a 58.4% posession average over four periods of play.
Harewood FC played hard the first day with goals at the 17th and 62nd minutes, answering the Sentinel's 11th and 56th minute goals, showing in that first match, that the squad intended to show up the Sentinels. Dannar tenkawa and Dalaa Grend, scoring respectively in the first match, however didn't have to match goals the second leg.
A single set piece header from Kell Johnson to Dalaa Grend, took home the game clincher at the 47th minute, as the Sentinel defense refused to let Harewood have a second chance in the second leg.
"My head still smarts some from that whap I made to the ball with my noggin. But that goal makes for a good band-aid, ya know." Dalaa Grend quipped to reporters while having a med-tech use a healing device on his welt, a decent sized one apparently, considering the speed the ball took off his head.
The Semis, and now the glory is in sight. Arcticala Inlet currently stands in their way, but now the desire to win it all is boiling up in the Sentinel's blood.
"If we manage to take it all home, 'and' one of our two teams in the Champions Cup does the same, there's gonna... well, just look at the CoH result." Vidal Marik of the Sentinel Midfield said, echoing a suddenly 'strong' desire to win evermore.
"What else can be said that any team with our desire 'can' say? We see the trophy in reach, and we simply won't just roll over and die. We want this one just like our National team heroes did." Coach Sten Kerensky said with a strong tone of a winner in his voice.
"The teams that made it this far, deserve all the praise from their respective nations. Arcticala Inlet, Backstaffen United, Cornellby City F.C. and we. it's a real honor.
But when the field of play gets under our feet, and that ball hits the pitch, the gloves are off. We'll play to win."

Semi-Finals, First Leg:
Angel Core Sentinels - Arcticala Inlet 0-0;
Backstaffen United - Cornellby City F.C. 3-2;
(OOC: It's really nice that you RP, GA, but it makes things a bit strange when I three posts above said that Tenkawa scored twice against Harewood and that you in the next RP say that he only scored once ;))
Inlet One Game from the Final
-----------------------Arcticala Inlet FC, one of the most notable Cup-Running teams in all of Vilita, having made it to four consecutive Vilitan Cup finals, are at it once again in the NSFA Cup. Arcticala squared off with fellow Vilitan side Strike FC in the Quarter Finals and went to the Shultis in Lonngeylin, and recorded a very impressive two to one victory over Strike. Vilita Under-21 and National prospect Julien Lisbie opened the scoring for Arcticala Inlet just before halftime, but Strike came back fired up and equalized through Rhianna Peters, and the match looked like it would end a stalemate. But it was Starblaydia's Syku-Lyku Agbayani who came through for Arcticala Inlet in the 87th minute with a downward header that Jimmy Kater could do nothing about.
-----------------------The second leg was much anticipated, but highly uneventful, and a display of goalkeeping mastery saw neither team get on the scoreboard, and Strike crashing out of the competition. Arcticala's gift was a Semi-Final matchup with Angel Core Sentinels, and, in the first leg, another 0-0 draw ensued. The match will now switch back into Vilita, and Arcticala Inlet will be looking to continue their recent cup success by securing a place in another Cup Final.

Backstaffen keep up run.
United couldn't quite keep up the form which had achieved them a 6-1 win over the Torpedo side but they still pulled off a 2-0 win infront of the home crowd.
If past form is anything to go by, United are much stronger on the road than at home. This could bade well as they travel to Cornellby defending a 1 goal advantage. the semi-final first leg finished 3-2 to the home side with Fuller grabbing another hattrick, taking his tally impossibly high.
Backstaffen expect the team to play a much stronger game in their home country, which could prove to be the downfall of united as City pushed them all the way earlier today.

Bacstaffen in Final of NSFA cup.
Travelling to Cornellby, United expected another strong game from the home side, and it was delivered.
Backstaffen took the lead early in with a header from a corner. They played slightly more defensively for a good while, knowing they had a 2 goal advantage. Cornellby seized the opportunity and immediately went on the attack, throwing everything into breaking the defence. They finally did on 42 minutes when a blistering shot was put past the keepers arms.
United fought back in the second half, with Fuller missing a few golden chances. However it was Staff who scored today, after a few quiet matches. It wasn't a beautiful goal, but it went into the net and put Backstaffen into the final.
They will meet the Angerl Core Sentinals at the Vimesbairn National Stadium. The Sentinals have seemed unstoppable so far in the tournament and it will take a special effort from United to stay in the match.

Semi-Finals:
1st Leg - D
Angel Core Sentinels v. Arcticala Inlet (0 - 0)
2nd Leg - W
Arcticala Inlet - Angel Core Sentinels (0 - 1)
(Angel Core 1 - 0 on aggregate)
GANN Sports Desk: ~ "We get to play in front of our fans, we get to give our nation some hope in a time of war, and we get to feel the same that we looked up to in the National Team. IF they could do it their first time around, so can we."
The words echoed from Sentinel Striker Kell Johnson, the only player to score in the two legs of their Semi-Final Legs verses Arcticala Inlet. The first match was yet another showing of stiffiling defense by the stone minded Sentinels, making a broken record of the number of times they fended off opposing attacks all Cup Touney long, and the two Semi matches were no exception.
Sentinel Keeper Dave Kanto so flat out dominating, that some are wondering why he isn't the National Team starting Keeper. "Yeah, I've been asked that. But I just like playing for my own home club here. I'm not as lofty minded as he.
At least until now." ..said a suprisingly humble Goalie, one that is 'not' like that on the field, even being nearly venemous with taking balls away from Strikers trying to round Sentinel Defenders, by literally all but tackiling the ball away when given the chance. The rest of the Sentinel monolith that is the Defense, meanwhile bewildered the Arcticala Inlet offense, with their crisp play in their backfield with no sign of any stepping over toes.
"When that ball get near me, it won't stay there for long." A stern speaking Defender squad captain Idan Masaki, another low key personality, but also one that is a polar opposite on the field.
The only goal, again by Kell Johnson, scored in the second Semi-leg by taking an errant pass interception by Midder Di Dai Chi, and hammering a strong shot from the outer box, actually hitting it off the goal bar, and bounding it off the Keeper before a double back onto the bar and a trickledrop past the line. The 37th minute goal was 'all' that was required apparently, and all that the Sentinels seem to require.
Approaching the 13th match of their run, the new Gaian stars don't see the number as a bad omen. "We're not the jittery kind like that, not when you live with real angels and such daily." Idan Masaki quoted in the team locker room. Meanwhile, when asked about the oppritunity of bringing home another Cup for the suddenly prolific Ascendancy Soccer Republic, Coach Sten Kerensky commented on saying...
"I already called up Katya Kerensky, no, no direct relation, other than by genes of BloodHouse. She told me that this is an oppritunity that comes not so often, and that we should get drunk off the experience.
I presume she meant winning, and that's my kind of 'drink'."
As for the toppled Arcticala Inlet... "Could've gone either way. Simple as that. We simply got the break, and they didn't. No matter what else, they were a very strong and worthy opponent. I've asked the Holy Council, that if we win the Final, that we begin inviting Vilitan teams to compete in friendlies, in both our respective nations.
It's clear to me, that we need more than just our own Republic squads and styles of play to test ourselves with. And we 'do' relish such a challenge, just as much as what we intend to finish here.
...as for Backstaffen United, we already have holo-vids of them playing Hevenaii Intracella, and can tell what will be needed to bring it all home. They are a strong team, and they have as much a chance at it all as we do.
But we 'also' now have gone too far. We'll be there, and 'very' ready, and in front of our own home crowd. That and with our citizens watching...
...bring it on." ..the squad Coach finished off with.

Backstaffen beaten down in a downpour of goals.
After achieving what no one expected them to do, and reaching the final of a major international club tournament, United have fulfilled their description of continual runners-up.
They arrived at the stadium expecting their toughest match to date, but they were unprepared for just how good the Sentinels were.
Angel Core quickly went on offensive, bagging 2 goals before the half hour mark. They weren't spectacular goals, but they gave the Sentinels the edge.
The same can't be said for their third, an inch-perfect pass setting up a wonderful strike from the forward.
Their final goal, 78 minutes in, couldn't have been easier if the United squad hadn't turned up. 3-0 down and finding it impossible to break the Sentinel defence they had all but given up and gone home when an almost ridculously weak shot brushed past a keeper only half awake.
United were simply outclassed. Sometimes a reporter can say that on another day the result may have been different. But in this case only if every member of the Sentinel squad had the flu.

GANN Sports Desk: ~ The Core Worlds finally have their first resolution...
*Sentinel Core Corona Stadium in a 'festive' mood. As the home crowd on a perfect evening celebrate with their NSFA Champions.*
In a Cup that seemed toped by the Techs, the Sentinels steal the show from everyone, finishing off a literal cinderfella run by, with all due respect included, destroyed Backstaffen United.
"They're a great squad, no doubt about that, since it takes perseverance to get to this point. But we knew what had to be done, and we finished the job for our citizen souls.
Now we can say that Gaian international football is coming of age, or that Gaian interstellar football is entering a golden age.
...all we can say to Jurai`alheim and Blue Diamond, is to get a Cup of their own!" ..Coach Sten Kerensky happily challenged the other two coaches, knowing they still had their 'grudge' match to finish off.
A ritual of sorts seems to have been set, as the Sentinel players carried the silver and gold Cup trophy, a flat oversized wall plaque, almost too large for a single player to heft. Etched with the NationStates logo and with the first inscription of the first squad to capture this glory. It was carried around the stadium in sight of the constanty cheering crowd.
"We gotta do this more often." ..from one of the manic mob.
