I'm thinking of starting an RP based around a dark arts academy where students aged 12 - 19 can learn dark magic. What I want to know is if anybody would be interested in such an RP? I'd prefer to know if people are interested before I start planning it.

OOC: It has a great deal of potential, I'd say.

Forgot to mention since my nation is FT, the RP will be FT as well.

I'm sure a half-orc student will result in plenty of RP potential, be it a student brawl or elitist villains-to-be.

I'm hoping to get a few RP'ers together to do this. Too many of my RP's end up with just one or two others.

I would love to participate, not as a studant, but as a teacher, possibly two teachers. I have roleplayed a lot of magic-users, and have a lot of theory which I cna back the whole thing up. If you gave me the chance, I can give you very detailed classes.

A couple of teachers would be a good idea, I certainly couldn't RP all of them I guess.

Haedrian (pronounced hey-dree-in) was born into a poor family and was abandoned on the street at the age of 2. When he was 3 1/2, he was struck in the face by the hoof of a cart horse. He was permanatly blinded and has remained inside or in the dark for most of his life. In his short life so far, he has suffered things that most beings never do. He enjoys listening to the screams of the dying. It makes him appreciate that he is alive. Almost nothing else is known of this poor soul.

Background: Aecheron was born to a human mother and a father of unknown race, who disappeared shortly after his conception. His father was apparently a sorceror of no small power, and the magic present in Aecheron had tragic effects. Completely aware over a week before his birth, and with his senses fully developed, he slowly became insane. After eight days of darkness, his young mind finally snapped. His mother was torn apart by arcs of power, which Aecheron had released instinctively. The baby was taken in by his grandfather on his mother's side.

Aecheron grew up in a fairly boring town of around two-hundred people, most of them middle-aged. The town was almost completely isolated, and due to this was completely self-sufficient, with power generators and a hydroponics garden. He was a voracious learner, and had a flair for magic tricks. Limited to card tricks and pulling things from hats, no-one suspected that he possessed true power. This was changed by an incident when he was thirteen.

The town was visited by another magic user, although a weak one, who had been contracted to help the crops grow larger. Aecheron begged and pleaded to be allowed to watch, and eventually his grandfather gave in. Alone with the magic user in the hydroponics lab, he watched enthralled as powers were put to use. And somewhere in the back of his mind it clicked. While weak, he could use very low-powered magic to do such simple things as making light.

Needless to say, when he heard about the Academy, he decided that it was his calling in life. Packing a bag and leaving a note for his grandfather, he made a long journey to the spaceport and set off...

Background: Felix, growing up in an old Italian family, was visited by several warlocks at his first sign of magic. His kin has a knack for Alchemy, and thus will be taking that class.(Communication also).

The villa/town of the Tarquinni family housed one of the largest private wind energy facilities ever built. 320 generators were constructed in four long lines, parallel, several miles from the estate.

Though the family, immensely rich, enjoys leisure and not much hard work, more than half of any and all earnings are spent in old Italian, especially Roman ventures. Any mention of these relics, and millions of dollars will be poured into restoration, etc.

Felix though, spends most of his time away from home. He has a certain affinity for gold, and his various legal/illegal ventures usually produce a decent quantity of it.

I could possibly provide a character or two, though I'd have to think of a way for them to be in a FT nation.

Bio: Alice has lived a short and disturbing life. She never knew her mother and was raised by her unattentive, sinister necromancer of a father. He never bothered to instruct his daughter, despite her apparent skills. Alice did manage to pick up a few things from her father but never gained a refined edge to her talent. Magic runs through her veins and there is no denying the power behind her, yet her methods have always been crude.

At the age of 17 she left home in the hope of finding other practitioners of the dark arts and learning from them. Unforutunately they were far and few between and so Alice learned little. She is a very independent girl with a strong will and a lack of social skills. She doesn't really like people and on occassion would prefer the undead spirits she can hear.

Not long after her 18th birthday, Alice decided that if she was going to learn anything, she would need more time. And so she convinced a young vampire to give her the kiss of death, or eternal life, depending on which way you look at it. Aware of the weaknesses of vampires, Alice managed to forge a gem of dark energies that shields her from the sun's rays. She wears the purple gem upon a necklace, never removing it.

Whilst Alice does have a great deal of control, even if it be crude, she has been known to unleash her powers unintentionally during times of high emotional stress or dire need. This is when the most damage is done.

Finally she heard of a school teaching in these dark arts and decided to attend in the hope of learning something.

Background: Tom had a fairly normal childhood as the only child in an ordinary middle class family. When Kazar-Tiyon arrived in the country, he felt Tom's potential for magical strength from close to a mile away. Kazar placed a shield around Peterson to hide his strength, and has been planning to either hire a mage to train him or to teach the boy magic himself. When Kazar heard about the Nocturne Academy, he decided that this was a perfect chance to have Thomas trained. The boy and his family had no idea that he could learn magic until Kazar arrived at their front door and announced that he would be sent to the Academy. Though Tom has no experience with magic, he finds the topic fascinating, and is rather scholarly by nature. He also knows that the well being of his parents depends on Kazar's satisfaction with his progress.

Background: Mierin comes from the only Moroii family with more substantial supernatural talent than the Batory clan. The Darvul group can be considered a more powerful offshoot of the larger Batory family, albeit much smaller and somehow more mysterious.

She is related to Ilona Batory, a famously morbid and mystic scientist involved in Callisdrun's nuclear weapons program, who also teaches at the University of Callisdrun. Resemblence can be seen in her unusual height, and the Batorys' noted barbed fangs have made an appearence.

More talented in than most even in her family, she has signed up for Necromancy and Summoning, although she also expressed willingness to participate in the vampire studies class.

Age: almost sixteen

backround: From a smaller Moroii clan, Arpad is a shy lad, who often underestimates himself when he has unusual talent. He doesn't talk much, and is uncomfortable around Mierin because she intimidates him.

He is a quick learner at most things and speaks English with less of an accent than most Callisdrunian Moroii.

He has signed up for the Alchemy/Enchanting and Transmutation/Manipulation classes, also expressing interest in vampire studies.

Anarkis was born in a very rich family but when his parents where killed in the magic city struggle war, he was only 5 years old and just dabbled in magic but nothing too major or extravagant. He was taken in by a poorer family but he has always been reluctant to stay and when he was 11 he escaped and went to another city taken in by yet another family whom he lives even now.

Anarkis is a suspicious character but really laid back. No-one knows but he has a voice at the back of his head which normally contends on his thoughts, this makes him highly un-predictable.

Well, after being on here for well over two years, I'm pretty sure I know how to RP. I posted in the IC thread because well, I posted here, and I didnt get a response, and knowing the tendancy of OOC threads to die after the IC thread gets going, I assumed that no one was checking this (never got a response, so a logical thought), and tried the IC thread. But, if you think I cant RP or dont have expierience, then hell, its your call.

OOC: I'm assuming in this case that the age range is in level of maturity. Argonians, like elves, live for long periods of time. For example, age seventy is equivalent to age twenty for a human in terms of social status.

Dextrel, born to the Quickclaw clan as the oldest of the second clutch. Hoping to follow the path of his older siblings, Arakesh & Alkesh, as hunters of what the Argonian people consider the ultimate quarry, the vampire. Dextrel hopes that the offered classes in Vampiric Study & the art of enchantment will supplement his Hunters' training and therefore make him a more effective hunter than his older brothers, or perhaps even more so than the great Whiptail Longtail. Young and eager to learn, Dextrel is athletic & intelligent, and has an unusual aptitude for magical arts, as the Quickclaw have been reliant on the more physical end of combat for many generations. Like all Quickclaw, he has been trained to a functional level in the Infinite Mystical Claw, the martial art of the Quickclaw clan, and in the use of the edge-and-a-half Argonian katana, the preferred hunting tool of his clan. He is only a beginner, however, and lacks the practical knowledge and applicable ability to use his skills effectively in a combat situation.

Sorry about the lesson your character was in dying, seems Reformed Velmora has quit the RP. I kinda screwed up the lessons, because so few actually signed up I put all the PC's in the same classes which seems to give your character a free period while the others are doing Necromancy, assuming Callisdrun and Assington are still in.

I'm still here, its just that theres been little to react to for weeks. I guess if its just us two, its dead.

Well it's been just Callisdrun, Assington and myself for the last few weeks or so and it seems they've finally given up. I'm really beginning to question why I put so much effort into NS when my RP's always die off so easily from lack of participation from others.

Tyar Illuthi

Tyar Illuthi is a lad of some fifteen years, rather nondescript. He has mouse-brown hair and eyes, and is a little on the slim side, and is a little below average in height.

He was born to a half-wit mother, and an ill-tempered father, and he hated both.

His gift for magic was discovered when his father took a whip to him, and suddenly found himself nearly a kilometre up in the sky, and was absolutely destroyed when he hit the ground.

Tyar has little to no gift for Necromancy, however, his manipulation of time is exceptional for an untrained student, and he also has huge amounts of untapped talent in the area of teleportation, as it goes well with his gifts in manipulating time. He can generally duplicate the effects of most spells with these two exceptional gifts, however, not very well. He has no talent to speak of the elemental areas, and can barely detect hostile minds, let alone read them. However, his skill in manipulation of time in small areas is excellent compensation for the total lack of other talents.

However, if you're taking late applicants, there's a kid on Findhorn whose puzzled parents have just brought him to the Abbey. They can't understand what's wrong with him, he used to be such a nice boy until he turned 13 ...

Even sorrier: I've just put a post in the RP thread because I can't get the thread tools to work so I can bookmark it. If it's too late, I'll delete the post. If I'm in, I'll go away and think up a name and backstory for him.

Basic background: Findhorn had magic 600 years ago, but it died out. The island is now a comfortable member of a region that has no interest or belief in magic. Recently, however, it was contacted by its lost colony, Ardchoille, where magic is still part of life. The island's leaders have made Ardchoille promise not to reintroduce magic to Findhorn, a decision which puzzles the Ardchoilleans.

Nonetheless, relationships remain cordial. So the Findhornians, confronted with a kid who, seemingly, can do magic all by himself, at least have somewhere to turn. They hustle him off to Ardrigh, where the University examines him. Thanks, DN. I've posted this time as Ardchoille, because I've been having the trouble everyone else seems to be having about logging in and out. However, thanks to Technical, I now know to go here (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/index.php?), zoom to the bottom and then go back, so it won't happen again.

Okay; my character:

His name is Ruari Dhurig; in Gaelic, Ruad+Righ, Dhu+Righ -- Red King, Black King. He knows the words behind his name because an uncle was so amused when he heard it he bought the baby an expensive hand-carved chess set in red-orange onyx and jet as a naming gift. Ruari (Rory) doesn't know the significance of the name, though. And he can't play chess.

He doesn't know what his gifts are. He doesn't even realise that he was the one who raised his grandmother. He thought she was a flesh-and-blood person; and, in a way, she was.

Given his heritage, he will eventually develop all the gifts the Ardchoilleans have: the standard telepathic and telekinetic ones, usually with a strong talent in a particular area (Earth, Air, Fire or Water).

Ruari is, evidently, a phenomenally powerful natural Earthwitch with a strong secondary ability in Airwitchery; that's why he can talk to ghosts, spirits, Devas, etc. But no Ardchoillean witch has ever raised the dead, none has ever developed powers without exposure to adepts or to Magical Creatures (such as the Cats), and very few have ever been able to use their natural talents effectively without any study or practice.

(It may turn out that he in some way brings the 'dead people' forward from the past; can he also bring them back from the future? Is it really a form of time manipulation? There's a thesis in this for some inquisitive staff member.)

Ruari's gifts seem to have started the day he turned 13 (that was only a few weeks ago). He's scared stiff by the whole thing. Until this happened he was planning to be a goat-breeder when he grew up. He'd already had some success in breeding for coats that were strong yet silky and had decided to study genetics. It was a reasonable goal for the only son of a small crofter family, all three of whom he desperately misses, particularly his 'near-twin', his only sister, Fionula, just 11 months younger.

He's small for his age, and skinny, though the size of his hands and feet suggests he'll start growing like a weed when he's about 15. He has gingery-brown eyes with dark lashes, reddish-brown hair, slightly darker eyebrows, pale skin and a few freckles. Normally he's ebullient verging on cheeky, a non-stop chatterer and plainly intelligent. But since being "discovered" he's become withdrawn and seems dull, boring and stupid.

That's mainly because, first in Ardchoille, then in the classrooms and with the other students, he's seeing things he knows can't happen. Yet they're happening, and there's enough of the scientist in him to want to know how and why.

Taking a chance, her mother instead set her on a personal starship, and had her fly to the Nocturnal Dark Arts Academy, figuring that a Dark Arts Academy would best prep her daughter for life outside of Corporate Krowemoh.
A late arrival only now arriving, Celestial used the money her mother set aside for her to buy herself admission to the school...

DN, I finally did what I should have done at the start (read the beginning of the thread) and I now realise I've got a pair of students parked in a town that, according to your intro, isn't there.

I can see two ways out. Either it's a tiny spot like Hogsmeade is in the Harry Potter books -- a village where supplying the school is the main 'industry' and there's nothing else for miles around -- or my guy wanted to go out with Mierin so badly he unwittingly tapped his powers of teleportation and took them to a place he'd seen on the way to the school. I'd sooner go with the 'village exists' option. Unless you've got another solution?

BTW, I don't expect ever to get so far behind that I'll have to do three posts in a row again. But if any of us do have a long screed, do you like them broken up like that or would you prefer it all in one hit?

Yeaa, I did that when a room mate of a character of mine in another thread disappeared. Problem was, he then got a new room mate who promptly disappeared too.

A mysteriously disappeared character could come in handy. Like, if Assington's character got curious and started enquiring, and the staff insisted there had never been such a person. But, aha, somebody finds something with the missing person's initials engraved on it.

He's also forgotten that there are rooms either side of the corridor (aren't there?), so the sixth window along is actually going to open on Room 12. (Or on Room 12 1/2, DN)?

lol No, it's designed to play music outloud, very loud (Although the volume can be adjusted from loud to 'not that loud'). Ravers like their music loud, and when you get a couple hundred of these things playing the same music the DJ is playing at the same time (Tiny recievers recieve the music as the DJ spins it and replay it, all real time. They also can store most anything they recieve, for replaying at a later time.) you can hear the party from space. :P

I had begun a post signed in as Findhorn but I left the computer for a minute and while I was away, a certain much younger person who lives under the same roof as me but whom I totally disown signed in to see what his nation was up to and didn't sign out again. I didn't notice until too late and now it's too much trouble to sign out/in again. I suppose I should be glad he didn't lose the post.

I have quoted a note and a conversation between Ruari and the Vampire Studies teacher (whose name I've forgotten) which sounds like blatant godmoding of your character. In fact it will prove to be not the teacher but Oliver whatsisname himself, he being a shape-changer and wanting, for some reason I've yet to work out properly, to talk privately to Ruari.

There seems to be a set-up for a student party sometime soon, and there's Alice's private lessons leading to some sort of scene, yes? I mean, I'm guessing when she's good enough she'll do something in public that will Reveal her Powers to the rest of the mob.

I still haven't got any solid idea on where I'll be taking Ruari with the long-ago-mentioned Red King/Black King stuff, though maybe after the alchemy class I'll jump him to his first 'tutorial' with this Oliver guy and see where it goes.

Thing is, I don't want to start any complex sub-plots that will tie him up if you're about to drop some sort of bomb on us, DN. Could you at least give us a hint if you've got a big everybody-in scene coming up?

Without revealing my plans, it's fine for you to start a complex sub-plot with Ruari. Go for it.

It seems that Psyrens was killed in her chambers rather then the classroom, meaning Celestial won't be the first to find her body. Another missed oppertunity... Ah well...

And too bad, After reading it through, I was wanting to save the teach. Too bad I wasn't online at the time. >_< Ah well. Maybe another time.
