Tennis :: The Mavis Cup

South Osettia
27-03-2005, 13:22
Okay, it looks like Tennis has taken a bit of a backseat lately, so to try and encourgae some further interest (and perhaps the return to NSTA Tennis), I've come up with...The Mavis Cup!

Countries enter their tennis players, as usual, but instead of going for individual glory, they have to work as a team to get the trophy for their country. Two countries will be drawn together, and then each male player will play every male player from the other country, and the same for the women. Then whichever country has won the most matches proceeds to the next round. For example:

South Osettia vs. Cockbill Street

Gradi Jarenko bt. Harald Beerquaffer
Gradi Jarenko bt. Callum McGrath
Gradi Jarenko bt. Peter Biddle
Harald Beerquaffer bt. Requso Makinov
Callum McGrath bt. Requso Makinov
Requso Makinov bt. Peter Biddle
Sara Zettergren bt. Olga Waqasie
Olga Waqasie bt. Irene Hammar
Olga Waqasie bt. Christine Williams

South Osettia wins 6-3.

It's kind of like the Davis Cup, but...well, not. So, anybody interested? If so, sign up here.

Note, this will NOT affect the NSTA Rankings, and is not affiliated with NSTA in any way, shape or form, apart from using the rankings.

Oh yes, you can have a maximum of six players - three men and three women.

Hypocriscia: Basically what'll happen is I post some scores, and you write about them. Check out some of the other sports threads lying around here to see what I mean.

What happened to this? Vanished as it appeared that SO have a chance of winning the WC hosting bid? ;)

Nope, we're still going, because SOLE has no chance of winning...because I'm a very pessimistic person. That way there are fewer disappointments in life.

I think that we've run out of nations to sign up but with eight here, that's pretty good for a first time run. Shall we begin?

HINT: Signups are now closed!

Doesn't make life much fun then, does it?

Not entirely. I use sarcasm to make situations brighter. I mean, only today I was crammed in the back of a small car with a potted clematis stealing my legroom, a bag of assorted foods next to me and the metal end of boot divider thingy sticking in my back. Think how much fun we had with that!

It was actually quite fun...apart from the pain when we went over bumps...

Now Cornlieu, normally I would say 'signups are closed in a rather sarcastic manner, but seeing as you just missed out on the fateful Bachwald Open last time, I'll let you in and put myself automatically through to the next round (seeing as there's no way I won't get there anyway, what with my first and second ranked man and woman in the world, respectively). Now, once I've updated the list, signup is closed, and the competiton can begin tomorrow, the 4th of April, I believe.

Drop me if you want. I don't like tennis anyway.
