Freemasonry Banned in Derscon!
Imperial News Network
Today, the Minister of the Interior Sir Johnathan Calvin announced that after heated debate in the Council of Ministers and a very rare public vote, Czar Alexei Alexandrovich Andropov XIV signed the law banning Freemasonry from Derscon.
Prince Johnathan Rekjyavich, Archbishop of Derscon, also decreed that masonry is heresy against all Christian churches, and masons are now banned from all churches within Derscon. Most of the conservative churches that do not adhere to the athourity of the Archbishop, such as the Free Presbyterian church, already have this in their doctrinal law, as do the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches within Derscon.
Minister of the Arts and Sciences, Sir Charles Camille Saint-Saëns, expressed disappointment in this measure. "The Masons allowed for much free expression in artworks of many forms, and promoted geometry, which is a very important part of mathematics today. It's a shame that these people have to leave, but if the Czar feels it necessary, and the majourity of people agree with this measure, then Derscon will probably benefit from it."
No real public outrage was heard in force. Here and there there was the occasional protest, but they were largely ignored and or ridiculed by the public.
Sir John Calvin has reported that all masons within Derscon have thirty days to leave Derscon. This should give them enough time to sell property they do not wish to take with them. Foreign vessals will be allowed to land and/or dock in Derscon to pick up refugees, if wished by their government. After that, all remaining masons will be imprisoned, and all remaining property owned by masons will be repossesed by the government and most likely auctioned off.
Any and all masons that take up arms against or resist those escorting them out of the nation or to prison will be executed on the spot without trial.

Whilst we do not condone the persecution of some on the basis of belief, as this is the case within the borders of Derscon, I would say that if one was to look into the arts of Freemasonry, I would deem it an undesirable influence within my own districts. In this case, I will not extend any invitation toward anyone in Derson whom has been ordered to leave, the promise of new-life and a visa to stay within the Abolsutionist Republic, but I do applaude those who are doing so on the simple basis of humanitarianism.

We do not seek to change Dersconian policy, however, we welcome with open arms any Mason seeking freedom.

The Kriovalians had sent several small ships plus two renovated cruise vessels to ferry the Masons to Krioval. The Dersconi refugees were soon to find themselves immersed in a society whose dedication to scientific advancement was nearly absolute, and where ambition to excel was paramount. In short, they were about to be placed as close to Heaven as one could be without death, an irony that was not lost on the Kriovalian government. The ships flew the Kriovalian flag from extremely visible locations, the black and red emblem a stark contrast to the silvery and white hulls. They waited at the designated location for permission to proceed.

Mr. President,
This ban is not something I wanted to do. As you can see with the majority of the legislation I have passed into law, I am all for civil rights and free choice, within the limits of Christianity.
The public outcry for the ban, as well as the majority of the Council of Ministers was overwhelming. While the Crown is technically divine right, the Czar is most definitely not infallable. The Czar's job is to run the nation effectively, coensiding with the will of the people. When over ninety percent of the population wants Free-masonry banned, you must listen. Many organizations were calling for the immediate execution of the masons. When a nation bans a group of people, normally one does not offer them thirty days to sell their property and invite other nations to come and take them. The way I handle the situation should be an obvious point to you that I was slightly regretful for this law.
I hope you understand.

The Czar picked up his phone and dialed Antonette before Rice arrived.
"Antonette, Sorry for not being able to meet with you right now. President Rice is meeting with me soon, and I don't want you two clashing swords right now. Sorry. Will talk later." Alexei hung up the phone and waited for Rice's arrival.

Dancer One, you are cleared to land on Runway three. Fighters, head
west a bit. Liepzig Air Force Base is there. Sorry, not too much room on the
runways, for a Sunday, and all. Not much runway to go around in the first
place, actually.
When the plane landed, Rice was escorted to the SUV by five Honour Guards -- seven foot tall beasts that weren't human, carried eight foot staves with sharp blades, and wore fancy red and gold armour -- and the SUV drove to Kremlin Palace.
The President was brought through the new entrance wing to the palace, added after Alexei's ascention, and then the Grande Hall, and taken up to the Star Office, after passing though the Imperial Hall, with massive marble columns with Honour Guards standing in between them, along with around the circulara elevator down, and the door into the secretary's office. The Honour Guards let Rice go and the Czar's personal guard force -- the best twenty men in the Prussian Empire -- the Dersconi Praetorian Guard, took her to a side entrance, only openable from the inside (it was waiting for them), bypassed the secretary and entred the Star Office, where along the star-shaped office the twenty superhumans that made up the Praetorian Guard stood around, shields and swords ready, along with thier OICWs.
Unusual for Alexei, who was the first person one saw when entering the palace, and who was never seen without a smile on, he slouched in his chair, and he looked very stressed out right now. His desk was a slight mess, and there was a single chair in front of it. The look on his face was a mix of stress and anger. He looked up and motioned to the chair in front of the desk.
"Thank you for coming, President Rice, on such short notice. Can I get you anything to drink?"

Alexei nodded and had a guard get a glass of water for President Rice and himself. He produced a weak smile. "I've been drinking too much anyways." He shrugs. "My dad would slap me upside the head for denying alchohol and being a Russian, though!" He took the cold ice water glass and held it to his forehead for a little and closed his eyes. Not the most formal thing, but the crap seemed to be hitting the fan quite a lot today. He took a sip and set it on a coaster on his desk. He placed a coaster on the other side of the desk for President Rice's drink.

"I expected you to either support the decision or keep your mouth shut, or, if you HAD to respond, issue a declaration of dissappointment. Greater Prussia Major is a fundamental Protestant region, while Burgundy is a fundemental Catholic region. Either way, both are fundemental regions. I will not toss away two thousand years of Dersconi culture and tradition fora couple groups of people.
"As the Czar of Derscon, my duty is to protect the rights of Dersconi citizens. Only Christians can become citizens. As Masons are not Christians, I have no duty to protect them, or even allow them citizenship. Had it just been fifty years ago, they would have been rounded up and thrown in concentration camps.
"And civil rights might not have flourished to your standards, but they are greater than any other period in Dersconi history. There are actually demonstrations protesting the amount of liberty I grant the people. THey are miniscule in number, though, so I do not bother with them.
"I do not want heretics running around in my nation, hence the reason for the continual ban on other religions. Plus there'd be an armed revolt if I allowed them citizenship. They do NOT deserve the same rights as other citizens, as they are NOT CITIZENS. I have no duty to grant them anything.
"You, on the other hand, have implemented an embargo on Dersconi products, and encouraged members of the international community AND GREATER PRUSSIA to follow you! In an attempt to allow heresy to run free in my nation, you encouraged other members of Greater Prussia to betray their Arch-Chancellor like you did!" Alexei was clearly VERY angry at this point.
"You are a traitor to your Arch-Chancellor, you are a traitor to the Greater Prussian Crown, and you are A TRAITOR TO GREATER PRUSSIA!" He was standing now, towering over President Rice, who was still sitting down. Alexei was gripping the handle of the Dragon Sword tightly. He had no intention of using it, but the handle was like a stress-reliever. His eyes also glew bright red.
"I do not tolerate traitors of any sort. The only reason I do not have you executed right now is because you are a woman and you are a friend of President Server." He started pacing back and forth behind his large desk.
"Technically, as Czar and Archchacellor, I can bypass all legal systems and charge you guilty right now, but I'm not going to." He smirked -- it was almost to the point of being demonic.
"You will get a trial in front of the Estates-General. Antonette here is the chief prosecutor. His others will be the Minister of Interior, Sir Johnathan Calvin, and the Chairman of the KGB, Yuri Golovko. I, as Arch-Chancellor, will be judge. While it may not seem like it, you have my word as God as my witness that I will judge fairly. You may pick a lawyer from your legal department. Greater Prussian law code does not dictate that I provide you with one. Unless you have anything else to say, the Guard will escort you to your room here in the Palace. You will stay there until the trial."

"You listen here Czar! I don't care about Dersconi history. What I do care about is individual freedom. We have a culture too. However, we have accomadated other cultures into our way of life. Its worked out quite well.
"As for me being a traitor, I haven't betrayed nothing. What you expect from me and what I do are two seperate things. Yes I did state that the International Community should boycott your goods. I know I issued that to my own people as well. As for Greater Prussia. I left it up to them. I don't care what they do. Anyway, I don't believe that I even stated Greater Prussia in my speech except that I am a member and issued a condemnation of what you are doing to the masons."
Now she stands up and stares directly eye to eye with the Arch-Chanchelor. "You don't threaten me Arch Chancelor. I maybe a woman but I also command respect in my nation. I am very well loved among the people. You also don't scare me either. I don't answer to you or to anyone else for that matter. I answer only to God and to the people of my nation. If they felt that I have done wrong then I will hear about it. So far however, nothing.
"As for being friends with the President of Corneliu, he's a good man. During my dealings with him, I have found him to be polite and tolerable. You, however, have shown yourself to be a intolerable. Your almost as bad as a dictator that I could name as well as a monarchy. Just because the people want something, Czar, doesn't make it the right choice. It was your decision to agree to their demands making you just as guilty of this atrocity as they are. You will answer to it when you meet your maker.
"As for my trial, I shall not be used as specticle for your injustices to human beings. I will not submit myself to your trial. I do believe that your sincere in that I'll have a fair one, but I am the Head of STATE for my nation. As head of state, I will not submit.
"As for not executing me. That is a wise move because if you did, my nation would know about it in short order. You know what they will clamor for? War! My nation is a peaceful nation but we will fight if provoked."
She paused for a moment and took a sip of water.
"Why don't you sit down in your chair and lets talk about this as two heads of state are supposed to talk! In a dignified manner and in a tone more conducive to coming to an agreement."

Your terms, as they are, are acceptable. Our transports will proceed without Caseylvanian escort into your waters. Rest assured, no man amongst them is armed. However, our armed fleet shall remain at a prescribed 200-mile distance, as those are international waters, and thus, not subject to your laws.
We will be watching over our transports very carefully. Using our new Aneas radar craft, we can easily stay at a range of 200+ miles, yet still view what occurs in your own harbors. Any attempt to harm our sailors, or the refugees they transport, will be considered an immediate declaration of war.

Collins turned to his XO, and winced slightly. "I don't much like the looks of this, but let's wait and see. Worst comes to worst, we can handle ourselves. According to our best intelligence, we can knock any ordnance they send out of the sky from 100 miles out. Keep a close eye on the Aneas gear. If they attempt to harm any of our guys or their charges, well, roll tide. Caseylvania is going to war."

"Threatening me is also not the smartest thing you've ever done." He lost the scream and anger in his voice, but many times the cool, calculating ones were scarier than the shouting ones. The Czar stopped leaning on the sword like he always does, and streched himself to full height, not to intimidate her, but to strech out his back, as all of that leaning over with the shoulders forward hurt it a little. President Rice then saw Alexei had a good foot and a half on her.
"I fear no war. As with all Dersconi people, war brings victory. War is something Dersconis are good at, and used to. I would not execute you, as that would make you a martyr. With martyrs come their supporters, and then the sympathests. And you are a head of state. But..." he said, continuing on.
"As you are a Greater Prussian nation, if you refuse to submit, it is in my athourity to arrest you and force you to submit. Now, unless you have something to say, we are done here." The passenger ships docked, loaded the rest of the masons, and were back with their motherfleet in four hours.
When word of the message coming from Caseylvania reached the Kremlin, the Superfleet went back up to ALERT status and began manoeuvres around the Caseylvanian fleet. An air patrol of one hundred birds was up at all times, as well as many of Derscon's advanced version of the Hawkeye. On ground air bases, sqadrons of F-35s were waiting for the strike order, most armed with ATA, but some armed with ATS missiles. A few bombers of the Stratiegic Air Wing were present, also. Mostly Lancers, they carried enough bomb to take out a carrier per plane.
The Kremlin obviously didn't fear too much, though, as ATLANTIS was not yet activated.

"Your letting your anger reflect in your words czar. That is not conducive to being a head of state. Your new to this job. Its obvious. I'm relatively new too but there are things that I've learned. Letting your anger dictate actions is the worst thing to do. A head of state has to be cool, calm, and collective. You were none of those three things.
"You maybe the head of Greater Prussia and I maybe a member of it. However, I am also a Head of State and that comes responsiblity. Your also a head of state and you have responsibility too. Because of our positions, we cannot afford to let anger dictate our actions. That is precisely what you are doing. Your letting your anger with me get the best of you instead of sitting down and talking as two heads of state should.
"If you want your trial then you'll have to do it without me because I will not be placed on said trial. I am willing to talk though but I shall not talk in a court.

The Czar took a deep breath, let it out, and collapsed in his chair. He looked up at Rice, with an annoyed look. Alexei opened a drawer and took out a thing of perscription. He took a pill from it, got a glass of water, and downed the pill. He put the little pill cylinder away and motioned for Rice to sit down.
"That's the one thing I don't like, sudden anger bursts. I can't help it, I was born with it." He shruged. "Doctor gave me those, hoping it would calm me down a bit. Real hush-hush. Dersconi KGB makes sure of it. Anyone that finds out is usually killed, so don't go telling that to nobody, understand?" He sighed.
"The forgoing of the embargo is nice, but if these 'assurances' you want are the relegalization of masonry, you can expect none."

"I didn't think so but I want assurances though that you'll treat ALL non-christian religions the same as you would want to be treated yourself. The bible does say 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.'
"The point being sir, if you respect someone, they will respect you. If you don't respect someone, they won't respect you. The same goes for religion. If you don't respect a religion, they won't respect you. You'll have nothing but trouble. If you do respect a religion and let them worship freely, they'll think highly of you and won't cause trouble but prevent it from happening because they don't want a good thing to go down.
"I think that is half your troubles with these Masons. They aren't respected in many parts of our region so they cause trouble. If they are respected, they wouldn't be causing all the trouble that they have. Respect goes along way Your Majesty.
"I will issue orders to have the ambassador resent when I get to my hotel room."

In other words, you want me to legalize non-Christian religions. That's even worse than legalizing the masons. The answer is no. I understand diplomacy is about compromise, but culture, tradition, national security, and honour are not things I compromise on."

"best not to toy with another nation's internal politics, Miss Rice. They tend to not want you there. Although, I must say, I did not expect this much outrage from ANYONE, especially a fellow Prussian. After all, most people just round them up and kill them, yet I gave them thirty days to sell their belongings they could not take by ship, and time to pack up, and offered the international community to pick them up, and yet you still treated the situation as if I executed anyone that was not a Free Presbyterian.

He listened to Rice a little more. "Your people want an embargo in place? Your people are not very loyal Prussians."

Queen Mariah I and ArchBishop John had just arrived in Derscon. It was a weird contrast, Arch-Bishop John was wearing his usual "black" Bishop's garb while the Queen was slinking around in a hot Red cocktail party dress. Some people didn't believe she was Catholic the way she dresses.
He was discrete while you couldn't miss the Queen as she always turned heads. Single Catholic men wished she was their date. She was also wearing a sword on a red belt with a red sheath. In the sheath was "Demon-Slayer" or "Excalibur". Bishop John or now Archbishop Jakob greeted them at the entrance of the Star Office.
Jakob shook John's hand "Well, we're both now ArchBishops.". John was happy too "Thanks Jakob, we can do more for God now." Jacob gave the Queen a more Jewish greeting as both had Jewish blood in them. He looked at the sword "Ahh, you brought Saint Michael's toy too.". The Queen smiled "Masons everywhere, you can't be safe".
They signalled to the Imperial Guard they were about enter the building. As she entered the Star Office, the hilt of the Demon-Slayer shone Gold indicating the Sword of Yahweh was nearby. She wondered if King of Burgundy was here too.
They headed to see the Czar Alexei Alexandrovich Andropov XIV (Arch-Chancellor of Greater Prussia). Hopefully, President Rice still had a head.
It was intended Cardinal Augustus Brown would be here but he was headed for Vatican City as required by Papal law as he was a member of College of Cardinals on the pending death of the Pope.

You will find little has changed in your lives, except you are now free to practice the Masonic Craft openly. In fact, there is still time to make the Harbor Light Lodge #318 meeting, if you are so inclined. I assure you that you will be welcomed as brothers."
Turning to his chief advisor in charge of foreign affairs, the President spoke simply. "Those nations which have supported these refugees in time of need, they are our friends. Assign each of them ambassadors immediately, and confer with their leaderships about a formal exchange of embassies. Also, look into the issues that Derscon and Formal Dances seem to be having. We may be able to offer aid, or at the very least, offer our support."

"Come, Mr. DeStefano. Sit. I understand there is something you wish to tell me."
"Yes, sir. First, let me thank you for welcoming me and my Brothers into your nation. We had no hope there, and needed a place to go. But, that is not what is important. You know, I would hope, that several of our members are scientists?"
"Yes, and?"
"Well, we come with a discovery important to you. As Einstein brought nuclear power to America in the 1930s, as Freud brought psychiatry in the 20s, we bring you, as a gesture of thanks, this."
DeStefano reached down, pulled the cover off a box he was carrying.
"It's a near-zero emissions internal combustion engine. Capable of 175 miles per gallon, and the total emissions consist of wood alcohol and water. It's not perfect, but Brother Klauss was working on this when we were evicted. It is now yours."

"It is an honor to meet you your majesty" President Rice stated as she curtsied. "As for the judgement of God, bear it no mind. Antonette here doesn't realize that if he does lay a hand on me, he's going to be in the hospital with a broken bone."
"As Arch-Chancellor of Burgundy, it's a pleasure to meet a fellow female leader but your fate will be decided by the Arch-Chancellor of Greater Prussia and King of Burgundy ultimately. I have no real say in this matter and I do advise against any physical violence against Antonette. You are a woman and use your tongue for your own defense not the patriarchal method of settling disputes. Use your strengths as a a court is a war of words in law." she smiled. She looked at Antonette for a response.

He poured some Red Wine and put it in front of Mariah,
"Please, have some." he said, taking a sip from his own. He continued, "My orders are ifshe ever sets foot in Burgundy, that she will be hanged from my tallest apple tree. She is a traitor to the Greater Prussian crown, and assaulted me."

The Czar stood up and greeted the Queen. "Good day, Mariah." (OOC: Czar Alexei is on a first-name basis with everyone in the room except Rice)
Alexei was a little angry. "Women and men do have different roles, yes, but they are equal in the general picture. Regardless, stop hitting each other, or I may be forced to sit you both in a corner." He grinned and poured some of his private stash of Napoleon Premier for himself. He then continued.
"President Rice, the Archchancellor cannot stop the King from carrying out his execution order should you step on Burgundian land. Only the hierarchs of Greater Prussia can. My advice: don't go on Burgundian land."

I warn you, once I sign this petition, you are subject to Greater Prussian law. If you pull something like that again, regardless of the reasons, you will face either execution or excommunication." Excommunication wasn't the technical word, but the Czar liked to use it, as it sounded more grave than 'ejected.'
"I do not mean to scare or provoke you in any way when I say that, but it is truth. When word of a decision not to prosecute you leaks out, many will be outraged. I leave it up to my foreign and interior minister to sooth them, as they are better speakers and polititions than I." He smiled and picked up a pen.
