The Status and Return of Aerion

Aerion

The Royal Regent of Aerion had died, and King Wasterin XV still remained biostasis in a coma. With no definite heirs except for cousins and an uncle, the Royal Regent was able to wield power by saying the King was still “alive” which of course the people wanted to believe, even though he was long in a coma. In a way, the nation too was in biostasis. Continuing with its day to day pattern, with the Royal Bureaucracy running the country. The atmosphere throughout Aerion had become one of fear and paranoia, though the elite families of Aerion with their members in the major corporations of Aerion, the Royal Government, and the wide-spread pervading Freemasonry were managing to hold control for the most part.

Even though the Crown still by entitlement possessed 10% ownership in every Aerion corporation, and Royal Representatives still sat on the Boards of Directors of each Corporation, without the symbolic power of the King most of the representatives had been easily bribed or bought and with the cousins and uncle of the King remaining split on who should supervise the assets of the Crown, there was no true centralized power.

The Royal Regent had maintained his power by heavy social politics and by the virtue of the Royal Government remaining relatively stable, until the terrorist attack which killed several high ranking Ministers, in which he was then able to replace them with his own lackeys. But now with his death, that was seemingly unraveling apart, and even though the next Officer in line was the Lord High Chancellor, that was being contested by a whole group of people. Many elite families had since been able to politic on both sides, between the mega corporations and the Royal Government.

Families that had previously only been tied to the Royal Government and maintained their status in that way had since obtained huge ownership or executive positions within mega corporations, and families that previously were only corporate families had gained high government positions. So therefore the two power bases were intermixing.

Aerion was still a society in which the rich were super-rich, and the poor were poorer. The rich are still caught up in their extravagant luxuries and social politics, with the poor being practically owned by the mega corporations.
