The fourth election in the nation's history are starting tomorrow.
There have been five presidents and two military coup leaders in the country's history:
-Jon Lyrik (Libertarian), 7/31/04-9/24/04 (beat out by al-Koraz)
-Muhammad al-Koraz (Democratic-Arab), 9/24/04-10/1/04 (impeached for corruption, by law the second-closest winner of the election was instated in his place)
-Pyotr Petrovich (Republican), 10/1/04-10/28/04 (overthrown)
-al-Habaaz (Military Coup Leader), 10/28/04 (killed by Nag Ehgoeg assassin)
-al-Basqara (Military Coup Leader), 10/28/04 (stepped down)
-Pyotr Petrovich (Republican), 10/28/04-12/8/04 (reinstalled on 10/28, assassinated on 12/8)
-Jose Juarez (Republican), 12/8/04-still serving
There are eight (!) major candidates running:
-Jon Lyrik of the Libertarian Party (would be second term if wins tomorrow, was in office from July 31st 2004-September 24th)
-Incumbent President Jose Juarez of the Republican Party (more liberal than the American Republican Party, been President since December 8th)
-Omar Futwa of the Democratic-Arab Party
-Gyanendra Bikram of the Buddhist-Democratic Party
-John Smith of the WASP Party
-Carl Persson of the Democratic Party
-Wen Hwa of the Independent Party
-Gwelak Vergevsino of the Nationalist Antarctican Party
Last exit poll read like this:
Lyrik-15%
Juarez-14.9%
Persson-14.7%
Hwa-14.5%
Bikram-14.4%
Vergevsino-12.8%
Futwa-7.8%
Smith-4.9%
Other-1%
This is indeed an amazingly diverse and close election, no doubt about it. Six people have realistic shots at becoming President. We wish for international observers to come around the nation and examine the voting process.
